This Week at Bungie - 7/15/2021 Posted: 15 Jul 2021 11:26 AM PDT Source: https://www.bungie.net/en/News/Article/50488 This week at Bungie, we talk rituals and reputation. Week two of Solstice of Heroes began. Between celebrating your accomplishments over the last year and a return of sunlight to the Last City, things are feeling pretty good. Make sure to pack some sunscreen on your way to the EAZ. Wouldn't want you to get sunburnt. We have six weeks until a new Season. There are many of us who have an insatiable appetite for content, but there's always going to be some time to relax during the Seasons of Destiny. Gives folks time to catch up, or just take a breather from our fight against the Darkness. We think it's about time we start trickling out some fun details. A few little snacks here and there, or a few bite-sized treats to enjoy if you aren't still chewing on a Season full of Overrides, Expunges, and more. This week, our Season 15 appetizers come in the form of ritual reputation updates. Earning a ReputationThe steady climb towards rewards and reputation is something I've come to love in Destiny 2 over the last few Seasons. Sometimes a reset can fly by when playing with a group of friends, but other times, I could get stuck trying to finish out my Gambit challenges. Even so, having a direct way to grind out some Ascendant Shards was a welcome change with the release of Beyond Light. This week, Rituals Lead Alan Blaine will be walking us through some great changes that the team has been working on to unify the reputation experiences of our ritual activities. As a warning, we are going to be diving a little deeper into the details here. If you're a Destiny 2 Novice, don't be afraid to ask questions. We'll be more than happy to answer what we can after this TWAB is live!
Bungie Foundation: Charity UpdateWell, Guardians... you've done it again. Just last week, we announced the Bungie Foundation Giving Campaign, and you've already smashed expectations. We have a quick update for you on how much has been raised so far. We also have an exciting lore reading, since you smashed the $500k challenge!
Rewards of the Prime VarietyIt's time for a refresh of Prime Rewards! This month, we've got something to love for the Fusion Rifle mains out there. Merciless takes the spotlight, packing destructive Solar damage and faster charge time with each non-lethal burst; this Exotic will be a welcome addition to inventories throughout the community. Here's the full list of items in this month's drop:
Make sure to link your Bungie.net account to get these slick rewards. Not signed up? Head to the Prime Rewards portal and check out our Help Article to get the ball rolling, and stay tuned for future announcements and updated drops! Let it Glow, Let it Glow!Over the last week, our Player Support team has been on the hunt for missing Solstice of Heroes packages. These little boxes are important for those looking to earn white glows on their fresh new armor sets, not to mention the Guardians looking for a sweet new Shotgun. If you've fallen victim to the case of the missing Solstice Packages, we've got some important information for you. This is their report.
"Teleports Behind You"Even though it's summer here in the States, I can feel a chill running down my spine from time to time. Is it a cool wind from the Pacific reaching my window, or is it the whisper from the Darkness? I keep hearing the words Mask of Bakris echoing through my skull. It must be a sign. If you see me in the Crucible this weekend, just know... it's nothing personal, kid. Movie of the Week: Bakris Approved. *Movie of the Week: Clantage - Ronin * If you'd like to take a shot at the Movie of the Week, please make sure to put #MOTW in your title and submit your content to the Community Creations page on Bungie.net. We've Got FamilySomething I love to see in this community is when parents introduce their children to the world of Destiny. Sure, the Hive can be a bit scary, but a family of Guardians can take on any challenge with ease. *Art of the Week: The Family is All Here *
*Art of the Week: Cuties *
Cheers to all who have been sharing their wonderful work. If you'd like the community to see your stuff, tag it with #Destiny2Art or #DestinyArt when posting! Thanks for stopping by for another installment of your weekly TWAB goodness. I'm just finishing up on the white Solstice glows for all three of my characters. Excited for the lovely Ghost reward at the end of the road. Don't worry, I won't bore you for too long with more text about my Arc Logic journey or the Master Atheon Challenge. Tell me, what are you currently hunting in Destiny 2? Anything special? Or are you just killing time while dunking on Hive in Old Russia? August 24 is coming soon. We have some sandbox details and Cross Play to cover between now and then. Sometimes I still wish I could be locked in a cryo-sleep until announce days. The excitement and anticipation for August is thick enough to cut with a knife. We'll get there soon enough, cryo-sleep or not. Cheers, dmg04 [link] [comments] |

Why aren’t clears the main source of XP in this game? Posted: 15 Jul 2021 03:44 PM PDT I see a lot of posts about leveling, specifically for GMs and Master VOG and it reinforces a question I've always had. Why aren't clears the main source of XP in the game? Farming the same bounties we have had for years is how most players grind. And I can't think of a more mind numbing, less skilled way to meet a bar for endgame. I'll sum it up with two simple questions. Whats wrong with someone leveling through clears ( specifically endgame clears ) only? What is wrong with someone who has 50 clears of VOG being leveled for Master? It makes 100x more sense than farming bounties from completely unrelated activities as the most effective path to endgame content. Actually as I type this it makes 0 sense the way it is now. Edit : Thanks for the support and discussion everyone. I want to say I'm not advocating for removing people's paths to LL. Keep challenges and bounties and the over hauls for rep look nice. There should be a solo-able grind. It's just my thought that the viability of leveling through activities shouldn't be capped at the pinnacle they drop you once a week. If you want to live exclusively in NFs farming Heros with MM or Masters without MM or Normal raids doing sherpas or three manning, running strikes, soloing dungeons. You shouldn't have to leave those activities and throw on random gear piece by piece, weapon by weapon. Those activities mentioned above should level you as fast or faster than targeting bounties in much lower level content. My opinion here obviously. Eyes up guardians. [link] [comments] |
Seasonal Challenges don't grant 10k Bright Dust as originally announced Posted: 15 Jul 2021 04:58 AM PDT Link up top for the math to prove it: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1IYhBoebydycePznhbX9LZTihNEjSwdsAsKkj9uQmRG8/edit?usp=sharing At the start of the season when the list of challenges was datamined I quickly noticed a big difference compared to Season of the Chosen: there was an extra multiplier for XP and BD. Because of that, it was obvious that some tiers would need to grant the same level of Bright Dust, those being x1 and x2. Until Week 5 we didn't see any x4 and x8 to confirm the 150 and 300BD payouts. With the payouts confirmed, the total sum for the individual challenges came out to 5475 Bright Dust rather than 6000 as it was last season. This week we all reached the point where we could acquire the big payout for 75 Challenges completed, which as expected, was a flat 4000 instead of 4525 to adjust for the reduced BD on the rest of the Challenges. Now, why is this a problem, you may ask? https://www.bungie.net/en/News/Article/50040
For S13 Bungie announced a total 10k BD from Challenges for all players, implying that it would be the standard going forward (seeing as the Season Pass BD is always the same as well). But instead, it saw a small enough reduction that most people wouldn't notice unless they were keeping track of it. And if their intention was not to keep the total the same across seasons, it should have been mentioned back in that TWAB or at the very least with the launch of Season 14. Edit: I mean, if the Season Pass Bright Dust (which are fixed rewards) didn't see any change, why should the Challenges not also have a predetermined payout guaranteed across seasons? I just want scout rifles to feel like Destiny 1 again Posted: 15 Jul 2021 12:01 PM PDT I have been playing Destiny 1 again because boredom and I totally forgot that scout rifles were my favorite gun type. They just feel powerful in a way that has not been duplicated in destiny 2. I still use them because some content they do help but I used to use a scout rifle for everything and now they are only situational. I really miss it. [link] [comments] |
Just got booted from Vault of glass raid for low DPS, what weapon should I work towards getting? Posted: 15 Jul 2021 07:23 PM PDT I just want to know which weapons are super good right now against bosses, they told me they had to let me go because my DPS was low and have me replaced. I was using escape velocity, duality and code duello. Im going to work towards a good DPS so i dont get booted again. Edit: It was templar fight [link] [comments] |
Vanguard Bounties should be doable in battlegrounds as well as strikes Posted: 15 Jul 2021 05:26 PM PDT With the recent TWAB in mind and how you'll be able to raise your vanguard rank with battlegrounds in addition to strikes it only makes sense to allow players to complete vanguard bounties within battlegrounds. As an additional bit of future proofing, it may behoove bungie to allow completion of vanguard bounties within any activity placed in the vanguard playlist since we may see more activities there in the future. Bungie, I would very much like the ability to replay the campaigns from the beginning. Posted: 15 Jul 2021 08:54 AM PDT |
Atheon, Times Conflux has been soloed Posted: 15 Jul 2021 05:24 AM PDT Congratulations to VoteForShifu for completing this challenge after many weeks of attempts. From his description: 'For this to work I use a finisher glitch to teleport back into the main room, but right before the teleport back i shoot a witherhoard and pick up the relic. The witherhoard shot kills the gatekeeper, allowing the portal to be opened. I then pop in and out of the portal to avoid the Lost in Time mechanic, and then do dps. For damage, I built 3x Roaring Flames stacks and then get 2x Empowered so i could throw 380k damage grenades. I procced this twice to get roughly 2.6 mil per phase.' [link] [comments] |
So if the OG campaigns are gone, that makes introducing new people to the universe... "Fun" Posted: 15 Jul 2021 02:07 PM PDT Once my partner got her new spiffy laptop, I finally convinced her to download D2 and try it to see if she would like it. Only problem, is that she doesn't understand a single thing. She didn't get the point to anything, she didn't get who was where and why, and she didn't understand ANY of the game modes even after me trying to word it to her personally. I think "Oh, I'll just go get the OG campaigns, then everything will be fine~". But, it isn't. It's all gone. Why? Like, I get they implemented the new campaigns and all, but the RL campaign was super helpful to new players! It showed lore, power, rarities, characters, planets, the other modes, and a single player experience made perfectly for new people (to a degree, I'll admit). Not only that but I'm sure there were other reasons less smart people don't read into (kinda just talking about me), but still... How are people meant to figure it out now in game? Go play D1 for old lore? Sit and watch YouTube Videos? That's just annoying. Let me talk to Holiday and get my legacy quest again please and thanks. I'm sure plenty of new players would like to play through it over just googling how other people got through it. Look, I dunno where I'm getting at, but I just know I wished things were a bit different [link] [comments] |
Bungie should make seventh seraph / ikelos pulse rifle, bow and scout Posted: 15 Jul 2021 06:20 AM PDT Considering how strong warmind cells are I feel like these weapons will be used a lot in pve at least as there are no weapons of these archetypes that make warmind cells without wrath of Rasputin [link] [comments] |
Dead Man’s Tale nerf adversely affected controller players instead of MnK Posted: 15 Jul 2021 07:27 AM PDT The point of the nerf was supposed to reign in DMT on PC MnK. However the opposite seems to have happened and the hip fire on controller is even more inconsistent than it already was. Bungie please look at balancing separately a la the Last Word so I can use my yee haw rifle on controller. All it needs is the accuracy angle reverted back and it should be at least usable. Pretty please. [link] [comments] |
Why do a lot of people dislike garden Posted: 15 Jul 2021 08:24 AM PDT I see many people on this sub and other places who seem to not like the raid. [link] [comments] |
Can we get Tangled Shore weapons back? Posted: 15 Jul 2021 10:57 AM PDT Since the Dreaming City and Moon weapons came back (for the most part, still missing two DC weapons) can we get the Tangled Shore weapons back? It would be cool to get the world drop counterparts back too, (e.g ether doctor/misfit, trackless waste/bad reputation) These were some of my favourite weapons to use pre-sunsetting, it would be awesome if I could use them again, if not I kinda feel like the work put in to the custom models and such was kind of a waste. If they do end up getting reprised, please learn from the mistakes made with reprising the DC/Moon weapons and don't fully replace all the perks, a good middleground (in my eyes) is to replace some perks and add some new ones. I think this will please the most people [link] [comments] |
What I’ve learned after half a dozen Master VoG Atheon kills. Posted: 15 Jul 2021 01:03 PM PDT This week I completed Master VoG on all of my characters and helped friends three other times with just Atheon Challenge kills in Master. There definitely some consistencies that seemed to help get it done for fireteams that were struggling and I thought I'd just take a minute to share those hoping that they would help some groups or players having trouble completing the challenge this week. Weapons and Mods As stated in other videos, this is one of those encounters that pretty much requires meta gear. I guess you could do it without Anarchy, but I feel like your individual DPS would suffer tremendously and DPS in general is a big issue in this encounter on Master as it is. Loadout wise we all ended up in a similar place: Kinetic: Hung Jury w/ explosive and Adept Big Ones mod (or any scout with explosive) Energy: Salvager's Salvo or Blinding GL (but you want mostly Salvo's, more later) Power: Anarchy Armor Mods: The only crucial ones are going to be concussive dampener and solar or void resist. The major harpies that shred you do solar damage, Atheon and the laser harpies do void. I ran concussive/solar resist personally. Team Composition and DPS This is one of those situations where it's going to be tough for Hunters. And as a Hunter main, it's hard for me to admit, lol. The Hunter supers for this encounter aren't great. Blade Barrage does great damage, but it's very hard to stay alive doing it on DPS island because the animation throws you so far forward, this has always been a problem. GG w/ celestial was pretty average. My suggestion is 1 or 2 well locks (second being a backup) and the rest either top tree Nova Bomb locks or Thundercrash Titans (although the titans did have a hard time surviving after super fairly often). But for my runs it allowed for 3 phase pretty consistently. Grenades as we all know do huge damage during the fight, so make sure you use them, especially well locks, the fusion grenade is nuts. There's really no major secret or anything to DPS, just land your Anarchy shots, throw grenades, don't be afraid to shoot Atheon with Salvager's and try not to jump up in the air and block your team mates Nova Bombs. TIP when you get detained go to the front left, there's a little nook you are pretty safe in. You can also jump to the back, but you don't have as much cover. Do not go to the sides, the adds will probably kill you. Strategies
TIP everyone knows about leaving one flying harpy left and right to prevent respawns, but you can also kill them during Oracles and they won't respawn until after which can be very helpful. Broken record moment here: if you do not keep the adds down you probably will not finish!
TIP after DPS stay in the well in middle and kill all the adds, there's no reason to jump out right away if well is still up.
None of this is groundbreaking or anything, but I just wanted to share it in the hopes that it would help someone. Good luck gamers! :) [link] [comments] |
Posted: 15 Jul 2021 01:42 AM PDT It's incredibly difficult to get a particular roll of a Dreaming City weapon right now. There is already a solution for this problem - Altar of Sorrows weapons rotate weekly on the moon. Why not apply this solution to Dreaming City weapons using Blind Well? Surely Bungie are considering this? [link] [comments] |
I really hope Bungie supports the new Proton release on Steam Posted: 15 Jul 2021 01:26 PM PDT D2 is on the top 15 active games on steam, I hope Bungie works with Valve to let Destiny 2 run on Linux via Proton with the release of the Steam Deck. This could possibly help with the performance issues since drivers on Linux are often more optimized but thats my 2 glimmer. [link] [comments] |

Does T10 Resilience let you survive a Hobgoblin Champion sniper attack in GMs? Posted: 15 Jul 2021 03:28 PM PDT TL;DR: Not by itself but 1 sniper resist at any resilience will let you survive A couple weeks ago I posted a thread testing whether or not T7 resilience would let you survive a vandal snipe in a GM. In the post I mentioned that although you could survive a vandal snipe, higher tier enemies like bosses and champions could potentially still one shot you and I still needed to test that. Well this week's GM, the Inverted Spire, features 2 barrier hobgloblin snipers in one of the beginning areas and was the perfect place to test. (*Edit:forgot to mention the modifiers are increased arc + enviromental damage and increase melee damage which should not affect my testing) Here are the results: My hunter running T1 Resil + 1 Sniper Resist My testing wasn't as thorough this time, mainly because the beginning area of this GM is a pain and because I believe these two scenarios are a good representation of the extremes. In each scenario I made sure that all possible resist buffs (like omni's resist perk or stasis glacier resists) weren't active before I challenged the champions, you can see this in the buff/debuff area. The second clip shows the barrier champ almost brushing me with the first shot, I'm pretty certain I took no damage from this shot and it doesn't effect the results. This was actually my second clip of T10 resil testing, I forgot to show my stats in the first attempt, but I did also die in the first attempt. There a couple situations in which you may possibly still survive a boss/hobgoblin snipe while running high resilience without the proper resists and one I wanted point out one in partcular. "Overloading" or disrupting a combatant will reduce incoming damage by 25% (source: Pip1n's D2 Compendium). So in a GM like Glassway where you're running a primary with overload rounds, it maybe possible to survive more situations by disrupting bosses and champions to lower their outgoing damage. Forced-path lifts feel really bad to use, and the blue lifts on EAZ feel really REALLY bad to use. Posted: 15 Jul 2021 07:36 AM PDT I remember in the D2 beta, the very first difference I noticed (besides the weapon system) was how that launch circle at the start of the Inverted Spire kept you on a set path, and trying to double jump out of it would force you right back onto the path Bungie programmed you to take. That felt pretty shitty. I understand it for that strike, since you're flying across an entire map, and a slight nudge to the right on that one lift would send your soul screaming back to hell. If Bungie doesn't force people on a set path, 50% of D2's playerbase wouldn't be able to complete that strike. But the EAZ?? I'm trying to go UP to get to rooftops, and if I accidentally use one of those damn lifts, it'll start dragging me DOWN once I reach the high point, and using my double and triple jump don't do a damn thing to fight Bungie's top-tier game design pulling me back down. So, yeah. They feel bad to use. I don't use them. But every time I see them, I feel sad and disappointed as I walk around them. Edit: Shoutout to the guy who paraphrased my second paragraph, resaid it in a way that implies I didn't say it first, and got 100 free comment karma out of it. You da man. EDIT EDIT: While we're at it, what's up with those gravity lifts in Expunged one-shotting you if you jump onto it? I see the pretty design on those lifts have a lot of open space in its pattern, so I can only assume my guardian snags his ankle in between the rings and has the lift violently tear his leg off, causing instant death. I know it's a bit late to mention that, but... don't do that again, Bungie. [link] [comments] |
Posted: 15 Jul 2021 11:50 AM PDT The reputation system is great overall, but it has holes in it that need to be filled.
The rep system is great but as I said before, without more quality of life, it is starting to fall flat. Adding a new ritual specific weapon akin to Frozen Orbit every season is fine but kind of exaggerates the problems I have already discussed. Having the seasonal ritual weapon available for rep is a good step but I hope that they go further with the system. EDIT: In my third point regarding the weekly challenge, I'm not talking about removing the BD reward, I'm talking about changing the requirement from 8 bounties to some amount of reputation. Bounties are just eh, even dmg doesn't like them.

Posted: 15 Jul 2021 01:27 PM PDT I've been playing Destiny 2 since long before the content vault. I actually miss days of just bombing around IO and Mars and playing Contact and Escalation Protocol. The adventures added to the locations and it made me feel like there was a reason to the guardians being there. I even miss just having a variety of environments to look at. Now all Destiny is is just a rinse and repeat of bounties and playlist acitivities (and the pinnacle grind if that's your thing). I wouldn't mind, but my pinnacle rewards never tracks for the Crucible (which in my experience is the worst pvp gamemode known to man), and poor Gambit (imo) is a pale shadow of its former self post Prime merge. There's been one new Strike for god knows how long (not including rehashes from Destiny 1). Battlegrounds was really good fun but like anything Destiny, Bungie force you to play it that much that I just find them boring now. Override is just more field Gambit (to rub salt in the wound). Expunge is pretty cool. I just feel we need a break from the constant bounty, playlist, bounty, playlist, way this game plays and actually have some planets to explore and defend in a game where I have a spaceship. Even if we go back to just having some new characters on those planets who act as bounty vendors and adventure narrators I feel it would breathe some life into a currently lifeless universe. Or, maybe play on the "there's barely anyone left, the cabal and eliksni included" and have last outposts and darkness research stations that could be used as settings. Have locations that, similar to the Dreaming City, get progessively more corrupted/dark each week, therefore giving the Darkness a visible effect on the worlds. I understand the reason of "those locations got stale, there was nothing to do/no loot" and that's why I feel new locations need to be added and maintained. [link] [comments] |
Can we go back to Vendor-specific loot pools? Posted: 15 Jul 2021 06:50 PM PDT Each Vendor has a PLETHORA(that is, a lot) of potentially solid options to earn, including some decent-looking armor(yeah I know it's all the same), but being locked into World Pool loot instead of getting Vanguard, Crucible and Ga\**\ specific loot from Vendor Engrams sucks. They could even use it as an excuse to reuse old armor assets from Forsaken, aka the best-looking Crucible Hunter set that's ever existed, don't @ me. There's a lot of potential in being able to target the grind for particular weapons from different vendors, rather than having one giant open loot pool. For example, here are the drops that are currently specific to each playlist: Vanguard Empty Vessel: Potentially the best weapon in the game, hasn't yet gained traction, but is able to make Warmind Cells and blind enemies. It is a Solar Tube Launcher. The Third Axiom: An underrated and forgotten weapon, it is a 390 Pulse Rifle that rolls with Arc Energy. It can roll out with Feeding Frenzy and Multi-Kill Clip, as well as Dragonfly, Disruption Break, Subsistence, Opening Shot, Vorpal Weapon, Thresh and so on and so forth. It's not the best in the game, but it could possess unrivaled versatility if there was a way to grind for it. Xenoclast: Possibly the best non-slug shotgun for PvE, it can roll with Vorpal, Thresh, Rampage, and 1-2 Punch in the fourth perk slot, as well as being one of the only shotguns that can roll with Auto-loading Holster or Field Prep on a shotgun, which can have some utility. For PvP it can also roll with Killing Wind and Slideshot(which, in combination with Accurized Rounds and a Range Masterwork can situationally get it to 100 range). Royal Entry: Hands down the best rocket launcher in the game. It has tracking, can roll with Impulse Amplifier, Field Prep, Auto-Loading Holster, Lasting Impression, Cluster Bombs and Clown Cartridge. Crucible Survivor's Epitaph: The best 180 Handcannon in the game and is actually competitive. Why? Because it can get Killing Wind + Kill Clip, which allows it to 3-tap similar to Not Forgotten and Luna's Howl, with NEARLY as much range potentially. Not quite as impressive for PvE, but still! Stars in Shadow: An underrated pick, but it's a Pulse Rifle, so it's got some difficulties to use. It can, however, roll with Kill Clip and Surplus, which in my eyes makes it something that could be amazing. It is also probably the highest range pulse rifle in the game. The Keening: A semi-god roll I actually have is Threat Detector + Surrounded. Get a max range roll for PvP with Surplus and Wellspring and you have something with Last Word ttk with SMG range. Frozen Orbit: A sniper that doesn't need Snapshot? Indeed! Surplus + High Impact Reserves can increase the consistency of this gun astronomically, and all you need is a Handling Masterwork and Fluted Barrel to make up entirely for the lack of Snapshot. Is this necessary? I do not know, I haven't gotten the roll yet. Gumby Trinary System: A Fusion Rifle(the only one) that can roll with Surplus and Kill Clip. All you need is Surplus on this gun to make it decent, as long as you don't have something killing your Stability. It can also get Tap-the-Trigger, which is insane on Fusion Rifles. Bottom Dollar: A 120 Handcannon, they may have gotten nerfed, but they're still insanely strong. It can also get Explosive Payload, so there's not much else to say here. Borrowed Time: The new sleeper meta weapon, it can get Rangefinder and Frenzy or Thresh, both of which are pretty good. I personally have a Fullbore, Rangefinder and Thresh roll, and the gun slaps pretty hard now that Shotguns are out of line. Crowd Pleaser: Honestly not as good as Memory Interdict, but it's still a Void Grenade Launcher. [link] [comments] |

Cutscene viewer for vaulted and unlocked cutscenes Posted: 15 Jul 2021 08:43 PM PDT In Collections, I think there should be a Cutscenes tab to view all of the player's unlocked cutscenes, so those that didn't start playing year 1 can still look at past cutscenes, and to check themselves out in their cool new armour set. Raid Transmat animations could go there too. [link] [comments] |
