    Trials of Osiris are LIVE

This thread is for all general discussion, questions, thoughts, musings, wonderings, etc. for the Trials of Osiris.

    FAQ

    What is Trials of Osiris?

    • Trials of Osiris is the pinnacle PvP activity. Every Weekend, the best players compete in 3v3 Elimination for one goal: Go Flawless.

    • To start, head to Saint-14 in the Tower Hangar and buy one of the possible passages (see below).

    • To reach Flawless and get to the Lighthouse, you need to win 7 matches without losing one.

    • It uses Win Based Matchmaking, which means you'll face teams with a similar amount of wins on their card. Matches will get harder as you win more matches.

    • There is NO fireteam matchmaking. You need to team up yourself!

    • Power Level matters, however bonus power from the artifact is not enabled.

How Long do the Trials of Osiris last?

    • Event Starts: Every Friday at Daily Reset (1700 UTC).

    • Event Ends: Following Tuesday at Weekly Reset (1700 UTC).

Where do I go to find Guardians to compete with in the Trials?

    • You can head over to /r/Fireteams, www.The100.io, Xbox LFG system, DestinyLFG.net or DestinyLFG.com, or go to the Bungie.net recruitment forum (also available through the Bungie App).

What if I have a question about another piece of armor/weapon or general Trials question?

    • Use Control + F (Or Command + F if on a Mac) and search for keywords in your question. Someone may have asked it already. If they haven't ask right below.

D.A.R.C.I. should be an energy weapon

    Posted: 19 Jun 2020 07:35 PM PDT

Let's be real here, it's a low impact, high fire rate sniper whose exotic perk is novel, but not particularly effective. The catalyst doesn't do anything to change that. It's not that the gun is useless, and couldn't be a great weapon, it's that it's a heavy weapon and it fails at that job. There is no situation in which it can compete against Whisper of The Worm or pretty much any other exotic heavy. No one uses this gun for anything other than giggles. All that being said, I like the gun, I like the idea behind it, and most of all, I would like a reason to use it.

Shouldn't the final boss in Prophecy drop fully Masterworked Daito gear?

    Posted: 19 Jun 2020 04:51 PM PDT

    Specifically, the Moonfang sets.

Pit of Heresy is a pinnacle Dungeon activity too and drops a maxed out piece of gear at the end.

Maybe have it for the first clear of each character?

Also, this was a great experience too. The start teaches you the main mechanic and then each encounter uses it in different (and interesting) scenarios. The DPS phase for the final boss is also very engaging. Better than most encounters. Good job on the design, Bungie.

    Fallen in love with Destiny

    Posted: 19 Jun 2020 07:25 AM PDT

Hello. I am new here. I downloaded Destiny 2 a week ago, and I have fallen in love with it. I have played over 30 hours already and can't wait to play more. I have watched Byf's 4 hour Lore video and I am so invested it's not even funny. The world is sooo cool and I have a smile on my face everytime I play. I listen to «Journey» every day now and I am still sad about the death of a certain Guardian (Yes I'm a Hunter). I feel like a kid again and I can't wait to explore more and join the Journey with you guys. I ofc don't fully understand everything yet but I learn something new every day. Hope I find some friend to play with soon so I can try the Raids and Dungeons etc. I am really thankful for this game, it has really helped with the loneliness and to escape from this crazy world. Sorry for the long post. Have a great day, Guardians.

EDIT: Wow! I never expected so many nice replies! Thank you so much! You are all awesome! I seen some of you saying I should play the campaign, I have already finished it! Everything from the Red War to Shadowkeep! And all of it was awesome! I am now figuring out what to do next but it's a lot to take in. Yesterday I got my first exotic! After a week I am at 1004 power level. (don't know if thats good). Thank you again guys, you made my day!

EDIT 2: OMG my first ever gold! What is happening!? From a kinda lonely guy who games alone this is really overwhelming... I can't thank you enough. Thank you. I will respond to everyone after work!

EDIT 3: This is crazy, thank you so much. Trying to respond to everyone but it's hard because you are so many awesome people.

LAST EDIT: Thank you, Guardians. It's impossible to answer over 500 comments but all of you made my day, or my month actually. I'm happy I could spread some positivity and many of you have also offered to play with me and help me, you are beyond awesome. Thank you again. I hope everyone is safe and I hope the future of Destiny is as bright as the light in of us all Guardians.

PSA: Hitting your super button without super activates your melee without using your melee ability

    Posted: 19 Jun 2020 01:50 PM PDT

At first I thought this was a bug, but I just found out that it doesn't use your melee ability and realized it's a huge QoL feature. Figured I haven't seen anything about this on the Sub so i'd figure I should spread the information.

This is particularly huge for hunter with knifes and smoke bombs as well as warlocks with their ranged melee.

Be Heard - Black Lives Matter

    Posted: 19 Jun 2020 09:10 AM PDT

    Source: https://www.bungie.net/en/News/Article/49284

Today is June 19th, a day of growing importance in the United States. It is recognized here as Juneteenth, or Freedom Day. On this date, in 1865, slaves in Texas celebrated as they were told for the first time that they were free, and slavery was no longer permitted. We at Bungie would like to take this opportunity to celebrate Juneteenth with you, no matter where you are around the world.

During an event earlier this month, we spent 8 minutes and 46 seconds in silence to honor the death of George Floyd, and promised that we would commit more time, energy, and money towards the fight against systemic racism. We invite you to join us in that battle by showing your support and making your voices heard.

Today we're announcing the Be Heard Collectible Pin & Emblem. All profits from the sales of the Be Heard Collectible Pin & Emblem will benefit the Equal Justice Initiative (eji.org). Pre-orders will become available on the Bungie Store starting on Tuesday, June 23, 2020. The exclusive Destiny 2 "Be Heard" emblem will be emailed to you within 24 hours after your order is placed.

We know that Guardians in Destiny fight for humanity and hope. And while the real challenges that Black people face are not as easily vanquished as the enemies in our game, we look forward to seeing Guardians come together in this fight as well. As we said before, we are committed to standing up for our Black community; including our developers, fans, and neighbors. Together, we intend to replace injustice with equality wherever we see it. So eyes up Guardians, there's work to do.

    Black Lives Matter.

The one thing that keeps me from playing this game all day long is that I feel constantly forced into loadouts I don't like.

    Posted: 19 Jun 2020 07:13 AM PDT

A HUGE amount of progress is tied to gear. Bounties are "X weapon kills" "X damage kills", we have strike singes, champions, etc, missions usually have the bounty formula too. I've gotten to the point where I actually miss my first few weeks playing (new light) because I really wanted to use different guns and I hadn't figured out which ones felt the best. There was a nice sweet spot for about a month where I said "progress be damned" and just stuck with my Ace/Gunnora's/Hammerhead loadout on bottom tree gunslinger the whole time and I had so much fun before getting sick of it. Bungie let me play how I want 2k20

edit: ok let me clarify. Yes, the bounties are nonessential. That's why I said "feel" forced. Yes, they are great for promoting different playstyles. There was a time I liked that. No, I don't use one gun all the time. I have a couple different combos I like to use. Fun things locked behind unfun things is a core part of this game, but sometimes it gets grating.

edit: wow when I posted this I didn't think it was even a valid opinion. Love going down the comments and seeing the people who completely missed the point of my post. For those people: notice the hedging in my wording. None of this is an absolute. I don't think the system is fundamentally flawed, I just think it's too prevalent for those of us chasing a certain level of progress. The season pass is a way for me to feel like I'm constantly making progress in something (a fun feeling) and while many of the ways to progress it (bounties) can be fun (when they involve using stuff I like and have on hand), many of them are less fun (when they involve using stuff I don't like or don't have on hand). Not totally sure how people read "I want to only use one loadout for every second of play time".

I still firmly believe that unless massive changes are made to the materials economy and stats, armor shouldn’t be sunset

    Posted: 19 Jun 2020 02:28 AM PDT

I think it's absolutely stupid that armor is being sunset, weapons is fine, I don't really care, but armor is another issue. Unless we can completely control our stat allocations and have a much easier way to get things like golf balls, I don't see myself continuing to invest in the system. Stats should be in multiples of 5, for example, an armor of 60 stat would have 5,15,10,20,5,5 as its allocation to the respective stats, with masterworks staying the same so a full masterwork set gives +10 to all stats like it does now.

Golf balls should be made much cheaper from banshee, get rid of the glimmer cost or halve it, halve the enhancement prism cost and materials cost. Public events, strikes and crucible should award between 1-3 cores and have zavala/shaxx award prisms for rank ups and iron banner awards a golf ball for every bounty you do.

I'm sure there's other stuff I'm forgetting but a lot of this would make it easier to swallow armor sunsetting, I really disagree with it happening, especially with how little bungie is saying in regards to transmog, which worries me with how potentially egregious they'll make the non-silver method of acquisition, but that's up to bungie I guess.

For all the Borealis Lovers - Infinite Ionic Return

    Posted: 19 Jun 2020 06:34 PM PDT

Yep for all 5 of us that still use this thing. So the new perk Sympathetic Arsenal allows you to reload the gun while keeping the Ionic Return buff.

So essentially just break one shield and keep topping up ammo with a primary weapon with the new perk. Seems to work well with the bow since its almost an instant reload.

Not sure on the deeps meta but its pretty fun regardless.

    Solo Players vs "Solo" Players

    Posted: 19 Jun 2020 07:33 PM PDT

There is a constant barrage of posts like this: "If you're a SOLO player, that doesn't mean you can't RAID" or "Here is some advice to all SOLO players from someone who was just like you". And then they go off on the beauty of LFGs, how raids aren't really that hard, or how things have changed for them since finding a group or joining a clan.

Personally, these types of posts make me cringe a bit. I feel like they are directed towards the wrong people, and that its like telling a sad person to stop being sad. I believe there are two types of solo players, and the lines get blurred between them within the community. Here is what I see:

Type I Solo Player: Due to time conflicts or long-term commitment issues, they are labeled solo players because they don't have a clan or close relationships with anyone in Destiny. Yet, they are sociable and are able to raid or do group activities because communication comes naturally.

Type II Solo Players: Due to low social energy or feeling uncomfortable with new people, they are labeled solo players because they avoid group activities and raids. The amount of energy and long-term commitment it takes to build a solid team keeps them solo to avoid stress.

Now of course I am generalizing these categories, and there can be hybrids, but for the sake of simplicity, I kept it short.

Now the problem I see is Type I's writing these posts for Type II's even though their solo play style sprouts from different reasons. Their intentions are good, but they truly don't understand the Type II's reasons for keeping solo.

Anyone who's played an online game probably knows what an LFG is, and everyone knows the benefits of a good group, so please stop making posts saying LFGs and "getting out there" is all it takes.

I'd love to hear your opinion about the subject matter, and if you got this far, thank you for taking the time!

Emote peaking aside, I believe bungie missed an opportunity to have heir apparent be wielded in the third person like Halo mini guns were.

    Posted: 19 Jun 2020 02:19 PM PDT

I think this everytime I use it. Something about using it like that makes me feel like more of a walking tank. It would also make the no aim down site work better, not that that is a problem.

Edit: I know its peeking and not peaking. I saw it after I posted and just said "meh" and left it.

When it comes to how to actually put everything together to grind XP fast, my approach is the following.

Disclaimer: This approach will focus on how to maximize XP farming while having fun and earn Pinnacle gear and Bright Dust in the process.

How to grind XP to have good results and have fun:

    1. Head to the Tower and grab all the Weekly bounties (Crucible, Strikes, Gambit and Prismatic Recaster): These grant a lot of XP and Bright Dust and can be worked on the background
    2. Grab all the Gunsmith and Prismatic Recaster bounties
    3. Head to the Moon and grab all the bounties from Eris Morn
    4. Go to Altars of Sorrow: Get all your Moon-specific bounties done (and work on the other bounties)
    5. If you enjoy Altars of Sorrow, you can stay there to get all your kills and bounties done
    6. If not, head to IO and grab all the planetary bounties from Asher Mir
    7. Do the Contact public event to get your bounties completed

And try hard method involves doing tons of repeatable for hours and use all three characters, of course. But as I can't and anyways prefer to work on different things while grinding XP, I recommend start tackling the core activities. Example:

    1. Grab all the Strikes bounties
    2. Run Strikes until they are done (including the weekly bounties or any other general bounty still left)
    3. When all Strikes bounties are completed, you can tackle Gambit, then Crucible, etc.

This will allow you to get your Weekly bounties done (and earn a lot of XP and some Bright Dust!) and work towards your Pinnacle gear challenges. At this point, if you still have the time and energy, you can start all over on a different character.

The live version of this table also includes more tips (like using a ghost with Guiding Light, joining a Fireteam for Shared Wisdom, etc) but you can check it out here.

If armour sunsetting is going ahead, it would be great to have full material returns on dismantling fully masterworked gear

    Posted: 19 Jun 2020 05:59 AM PDT

I have a fair few armour pieces from the start of Shadowkeep which are fully masterworked, but will become obsolete in higher level content come September, as well as pieces that have now been outclassed with the higher average stat rolls that are available. Given that full masterwork gear is most useful in this kind of content, and with the high cost of fully masterworking, I think it would be a fair exchange to be able to dismantle this gear and receive the full amount of prisms and shards that were used to upgrade it.

    SBMM, Exploring the Other Side.

    Posted: 19 Jun 2020 12:48 PM PDT

So I am an above average player in Destiny 2 PvP. The removal of SBMM has felt amazing and I actually enjoy playing crucible where I can explore different loadouts and just have fun. A couple days ago I was playing and stomping around the crucible running out of medals and something happened that really made me think.

Hopefully you take the time to read this and really think about your place in the "skill brackets" and what your experience has on others.

I ran into a person on the other team that was playing, well, very very badly. After killing the player a few times I noticed they weren't moving and shooting at the same time. I thought, "no one could be that bad? Right?" So I stopped mid match and checked his armor and noticed something peculiar about the clan he was in.

The clan bio said "Just a bunch of old and disabled players trying to have some fun on a video game"

I was at a loss for words. I immediately started to play very differently. I would kill anyone I saw except for this player. When I found him alone or after I killed his teammates I would feed the pigeons in front of him and let him kill me.

I absolutely love doing good in crucible, like most people would I assume. However I don't want to ruin someone's time to the point of them giving up on a game they want to play and enjoy.

Which is why I think SBMM needs to come back, but different. I think the bottom 20% or so of players need their own bracket or matchmaking and the rest stay CBMM. This wouldn't affect myself or most players. It is not fair for this person just trying to have fun get completely stomped match after match. Which is happening after looking on Destiny tracker. And this only started happening after the removal of SBMM.

So, I ask again, really think about your place in crucible. Are you a PvP god? An Average joe? Or someone that might benefit from that isolated matchmaking. I would never expect someone to let themselves be killed like I did to help out one player. I just wanted to share this encounter and hopefully it will get the attention of Bungie and others. Thanks for reading everyone! And feel free to share your thoughts in the comments, in a civil manner of course.

Edit: Thanks for all the replies and discussion so far! And for the gold Award! It's my first one ever so thanks!

Edit 2: Thanks again for all the replies and the other rewards, I have tried to reply to everyone and hopefully I haven't missed any, if I have shoot me a message and I will happily reply!

Now to anyone reading this now, I play on PS4, if you would ever like to play, just for fun, and goofing around please feel free to DM me and I will absolutely try my best to set up something. Whether it be PvP, raids, PvE or anything in between don't hesitate to ask. I don't care about your skill, your stats, or anything that might deter you from asking for some help or to have fun. Please reach out! ❤️

With 95 days before the Niobe Labs puzzle is gone, use this quick reference guide I made to complete it

I created a quick reference guide (https://imgur.com/gallery/bm8xR8H) for me and my teammates to complete the Niobe Labs puzzle. Before you jump in, make sure you watch a video guide first to see where the actual symbols are located. Datto's should do fine: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ksJpRdOY-30 Once you and your fireteam know the symbol locations you can then use this guide to quickly reference what to do and when to do it.

    Posted: 19 Jun 2020 04:06 PM PDT

Especially if it's Moonfang armor from Prophecy. Gotta love a 56 stat rolled helmet with 21 in Strength.

Why does Prophecy not drop guaranteed MW armor similar to how PoH does?

Some consistency would be nice, you know? It would also keep some things from being automatic infusion fodder.

    1. Have a look at the chart of raid completions in the 145 weeks of Destiny 2's release. At around 66 weeks in, Scourge of the Past is released, and is one of your most successful raids with a consistent completion rate even until now! It has always had the 2nd or 3rd most weekly completions.

    2. Raid Lairs were meant to be a relaxed and shorter alternatives to Raids, those did not work, as most of us have seen. However, Scourge is what a Raid Lair should have been, instead of being annoyingly easy or just annoying, it has the perfect blend of difficulty to justify the short length. Even when it is tense, it still is fun, and that's what makes it perfect to me.

    3. The mechanics were really unique! I don't know about most people, but I love the encounters in this Raid. Like to sit back and relax? Read Map or defend it! Want to run about while shredding orange bars? Be a runner! Like fast-paced pursuits? Second encounter is perfect for you!

    4. It's locked behind Forsaken, which adds a profit to it! I know people who have or will literally buy Forsaken just for Scourge or the other raids.

    5. It is really rewarding and you have many good weapons and loot! Threat Level, a shotgun which can work wonders with Liar's Handshake if you have the right rolls. Bellowing Giant, one of my favourite Rocket Launchers and first god roll with Velocity masterwork, Volatile Launch, High Velocity Rounds, Cluster Bomb and Tracking Module and, of course, Anarchy, which I'm still trying to get on my 16th or 17th attempt. You don't need to have it to know it's good.

TL;DR: People love this raid, and getting rid of it would be unfair to yourself and us by depraving us of a fun raid with good encounters and rewarding loot. If you are already keeping it, then this was useless!

I probably missed a lot of good points, so feel free to leave them below!

Could we see an increase in Altered Elements gain?

    Posted: 19 Jun 2020 07:38 AM PDT

I find myself earning 10x more umbral engrams than a stack[50] of altered elements. Any way we can see an increase in this crucial seasonal currency?

100 elements per day from the bounties does not equal the amount of umbrals you get by just playing normally. To clarify, I don't want a perfect 1:1 ratio on element to umbral drop rate. Something better than the current 1:10 drop rate in about an hour of play would be nice.

EDIT QUESTION: Has anyone seen a consistent flow of elements/umbrals from crucible or gambit? Just did both my weekly bounties and milestones in these activities and did not get any rewards for the season. I did get a few umbrals to drop during gambit, from hvt and yellow bars.

EDIT LINK: the umbral pool is weird af https://twitter.com/MergingChicken/status/1274003909527441414

EDIT CLARIFICATION: I spent an hour in nightmare hunts and gained around 12 umbrals and only 1 stack of 50 elements. That is a good base for what I am talking about.

EDIT IDEA: If completing a heroic contact event guaranteed a stack of 50 elements to drop then I'd see this as a positive. Contact event is part of the season as well as umbrals/focused umbrals. I don't see any reason for this event not to be the best source of elements while everything else in the game can drop umbrals normally.

EDIT: After reaching lvl 21 in the vendor you may not have a problem with the ratio between elements and umbrals. 3 week lockout if you are running 3 characters to get to lvl 21, unless you delete characters or farm umbrals and encrypt a metric ton of umbrals to rank up slowly.

It seems that with all the upgrades from the new vendor you actually lessen the chance of getting elements in favor of unfocused engrams, while also making focused engrams more important/inaccessible. This all seems to defeat the "Focus" of this season.

Add Trials of the Nine weapons to the Prophecy loot pool, please.

    Posted: 19 Jun 2020 02:47 AM PDT

    Title.

Edit: I understand there are some nuances to this being implemented, and that my initial post was too vague to be practical/useful. I was feeling lazy at the time; my apologies.

The main issue is that the loot pool would be too large, inhibiting the likelihood of getting a drop you'd want.

One solution could be moving the current weapon pool into another activity or world drop, maybe requiring different pools in an effort to avoid dilution (specifically in regard to the IKELOS v1.0.2 weapons). They really don't seem to fit in their current loot pool, thematically, anyway — as far as I'm aware.

All I know is that I'd love to earn those IX weapons, especially with random rolls. They're fucking stunning and I never got a chance to earn most of them since I sucked at Trials.

Feel free to post more issues with this suggestion, or other possible solutions! I'd prefer an optimal solution instead of the first one I could think of, so I'm all ears.

Editing to add community suggestions as they come in:

    • A way to obtain Trials of the Nine shaders (u/NeoJoe731) — maybe a mini-quest/triumph/bounty related to the dungeon like some other shaders.
    • Add the Trials ornaments for flawless challenges (u/Salvaged_Throwaway).
