This week at Bungie, Ada-1 is prepping for Armor Synthesis.

There's quite a bit going on this week. The Guardian Games have begun! Hunters, Titans, and Warlocks throughout the system have begun competing for gold placement each day of the Games. A few of us here at the studio have pledged to help Warlocks as they attempt to prevent a sweeping win by Titans for the second year in a row. Hunters are already showing promise with some early wins. Maybe they learned from last year that they'll need to compete for more than a single day to win the trophy. Who will take the win? Only time will tell!

    [Editor's Note: Hunters will prevail!]

[Editor's Editor's Note: You misspelled "Titans"]

[DMG's Note: Warlocks may actually have a chance this year. Calm down everyone. Let's get back to the TWAB.]

If you're looking for an additional challenge during the Games, the final Grandmaster Nightfalls required for the Gilded Conqueror title are now available. If you've been procrastinating a bit, all featured strikes of the Season are available at Grandmaster difficulty.

Before we move on to some juicy details about Armor Synthesis, we want to give a quick Public Service Announcement about the future of Nightfall weapons. Next Season, three new Legendary weapons will be added to Nightfall rotation, which will also receive Adept treatment when Grandmasters become available. As such, Palindrome, Shadow Price, and The S.W.A.R.M. will be taking a hiatus for the first half of the Season. When they return, all three will be available as potential post-game rewards when completing Nightfalls on featured weeks.

So, if you're looking to farm some Palindromes, this week will be your last chance to do so for a bit until they return! Stay tuned for a future TWAB where we show off next Season's hotness, coming soon to a Nightfall near you.

    Armor Synthesis & Guardian Appearance

Since the launch of Destiny 1, we've seen requests for a transmog system. After some development time, buckets of sweat, and a few happy tears, we're happy to introduce Armor Synthesis to Destiny 2. Ada-1 will be returning to the Tower to help Guardians customize their appearance in a brand-new way. Today, we'll be explaining how this feature will work, and how you can work your way towards your favorite looks. Quick note, many of the following screenshots were from test builds, so some things may look slightly different when released!

    Image Linkimgur

Before we get too deep, here's a quick list of steps that players will take to convert their armor appearance into Universal Armor Ornaments:

    1. Defeat enemies to earn Synthstrand.
    2. Spend Synthstrand on bounties to earn Synthcord.
    3. Convert Synthcord at the Loom in the Tower into Synthweave.
    4. Use Synthweave to convert an unlocked armor appearance (Legendary quality or lower) from Collections into a Universal Armor Ornament.

To start, players will begin earning Synthstrand when defeating enemies in Destiny 2. After earning 150 Synthstrand , players may visit Ada-1 in the Tower to acquire class-specific bounties, which will reward Synthcord.

When developing this feature, an early goal was to ensure players could earn Synthweave through numerous activities in Destiny 2. That way, players who spend most of their time in the Crucible could continue to do so and still engage with Armor Synthesis. There will be five categories of Armor Synthesis bounties: Vanguard, Crucible, Gambit, Destinations, or Raids and Dungeons. Here are a few examples of bounties that you will see:

    • Vanguard

      • Complete playlists strikes using specific subclasses.
      • Accumulate points in Nightfall strikes.
    • Crucible

      • Capture zones in Crucible Control matches.
      • Complete Crucible matches and defeat opponents using specific damage types as a team.
    • Gambit

      • Send and defeat blockers in Gambit.
      • Defeat Primeval Envoys, high value targets and Primevals in Gambit.
    • Destinations

      • Defeat Nightmares on any destination or in Nightmare Hunts.
      • Defeat bosses while defending the Blind Well within the Dreaming City.
    • Raids and Dungeons

      • Complete the final encounter of any Raid or Dungeon.
      • Generate Orbs of Power in raids or dungeons.

If you pick up the wrong bounty, some of the Synthstrands will be refunded if you choose to abandon it. But not the full amount, so think carefully before abandoning!

    Image Linkimgur

How many of these can you earn?

Players may earn up to ten Synthweave per class, per Season. Except in Season of [REDACTED]...

To celebrate the introduction of Armor Synthesis, in Season of [REDACTED], players may earn ten additional Synthweave per class through the introductory experience. In total, during Season of [REDACTED] players may earn up to 20 Synthweave per class, which can either be used to convert four full sets to ornaments, or 20 specific items.

As a quick example for the Hunters out there, that could mean you unlock four armor pieces, plus sixteen individual cloaks to swap between depending on your mood.

    Image Linkimgur

    Please Note: Some exceptions apply.

Universal Ornaments may only be applied to Legendary armor pieces. Exotic armor pieces cannot take the appearance of alternate armor, as we want to maintain their appearance for players to quickly identify and understand what Exotic perks a player may have in all activities.

There will also be a few exceptions at launch for Year-1 Armor Ornaments due to technical constraints, but we are currently working on solutions for a future Season. These exceptions include:

    • Year-1 Armor Ornaments

      • Vanguard
      • Crucible
      • Iron Banner
      • Faction Rallies
      • Prestige Raids
      • Trials of the Nine

Ornaments can still be applied if the base armor piece is from an activity that the ornament originates. As an example, if a player owns Crucible ornaments from Curse of Osiris, they may be applied to Crucible armor pieces at no cost. However, these ornaments cannot be applied to Seasonal armor.

Additionally, all base armor appearances from 2018 and 2019 Solstice of Heroes events will be available for Armor Synthesis. However, due to an issue where 2018 and 2019 glows cannot be socketed alongside armor appearances in the new Guardian Appearance system, the glows will not be supported. Solstice 2020 armor glows were developed with the Guardian Appearance system in mind, and players will retain the white armor glow if it was earned during the event. Subclass based glows will continue to function on their Universal Ornaments as well.

    Image Linkimgur

    Eververse

Eververse will also offer Synthweave Templates for direct purchase through the Guardian Appearance screen. Players may either purchase a single Synthweave, or they may purchase a five-piece bundle.

    Item Silver Cost
    Synthweave Template (1 Token) 300
Synthweave Template Bundle (5 Tokens) 1000

For reference, Universal Armor Ornament Bundles cost 1500 Silver.

To avoid mistaken purchases, Synthweave Templates from Eververse can be applied to any class.

    Let's talk Shaders

Through the Guardian Appearances screen, we took an opportunity to improve the shader experience. Currently, shaders are one-time use consumables that must be repurchased from Collections for Glimmer or Legendary Shards.

Starting next Season, all unlocked shaders will be visible on the Guardian Appearance screen when hovering over the shader bucket. Players may apply shaders for 500 Glimmer per armor piece. Additionally, we've added the often requested "apply all" button for shaders, which will cost 2500 Glimmer total. This is the same Glimmer cost to purchase shaders right now, but we've done away with the Legendary Shards requirement.

    Image Linkimgur

Shaders will continue to be earned through various activities in Destiny 2 or can be purchased using Bright Dust or Silver from Eververse. With the update to shaders, we'll be increasing their cost from 40 Bright Dust to 300 Bright Dust. This will continue to be a one-time purchase and will appear in the Guardian Appearance menu when unlocked. In celebration of Armor Synthesis, a Year-1 Eververse shader bundle will also be available in the Eververse for Glimmer, no Silver required!

    Image Linkimgur

And there you have it. We're excited for the addition of Armor Synthesis starting in just a few short weeks.

    Fair Game

    Image Linkimgur

Over the last few days, we've been tracking some interesting issues that were introduced with Guardian Games. Titans having invisible arms, Contender Cards taking up two slots in quest inventory, and a few other things. We've deployed some fixes, but are still tracking a few known issues.

    This is their report.

SEASON OF THE CHOSEN SEAL PURCHASE

Acquisition of all the scannables in the Presage mission is required for the Season of the Chosen Seal. The scannables are collected over a period of three weeks – players need to collect all the scannables in each week and claim the associated Triumph before the weekly reset. With the following weekly reset, the next set of scannables will be available in the Presage mission.

Because a period of three weeks is required to collect all the scannables, players have until the weekly reset on April 27 to collect the first week's scannables and claim the associated Triumph if they want to be able to purchase the Season of the Chosen Seal from the Bungie Store.

Additionally, players must also begin purchasing Chosen mods from the War Table before the weekly reset on April 27 if they want to purchase the Seal because there are six mods total that must be acquired.

    WEEKLY KNOWN ISSUES

While we continue investigating various known issues, here is a list of the latest issues that were reported to us in our #Help Forum:

    • The Titan Contender Eververse Armor set makes the player's body invisible in first person.
    • Certain shaders may erroneously remove the glow from the Eververse Warlock Guardian Games Universal Ornament set.
    • The One Fell Strike Triumph must be completed in Vanguard or Nightfall Strike Playlists and claimed before a strike ends. We're working to allow it to complete in the Guardian Games Playlist.
    • Contender Cards are no longer taking up extra space in player Quest inventories. Players may need to visit the Tower and return to Orbit for their inventory to update.
    • Zero Hour's SCRAP CF-717-91 Exotic ship no longer fires its middle four engines.
    • The Festival of the Lost Hunter Chthonic Grips shows the ornament glow when inspecting the hand, but it doesn't appear when running around.
    • Ophidian Aspect's ornament, Coaxial Bonds, no longer displays SIVA particles on the Warlock's right arm.
    • Metropolitan Frigate ship wing animation displays poorly when warping to a destination.
    • The Quick Charge mod doesn't increase the ready speed of Shotguns at all.
    • Mida Mini-Tool doesn't show Kill Tracking column when Masterworked.
    • The Region Chest in Trostland in the EDZ shows as unclaimed even when associated Region Chest Triumph is complete.

For a full list of emergent issues in Destiny 2, players can review our Known Issues article. Players who observe other issues should report them to our #Help forum.

    Let the Games Begin!

    Image Linkimgur

I don't think I know a single Titan that can't stop reminding me of their win last year. Know what? It's well deserved. Everyone underestimated them before the 2020 Games began, and they showed up in force. Will this year be different? We'll just have to wait and see. Until then, we can still appreciate their pure, fist-first approach to any challenge that makes the mistake of getting in their way.

Cheers to all who were featured this week. We'll be snagging class-centric art throughout the event, so get ready for some more sweet pieces highlighting the beauty of Hunters, Titans, and Warlocks throughout the community!

Thanks to a silly Twitter poll, my allegiance has been pledged to Warlocks for Guardian Games this year. Hunters, I'm sorry, but it may actually be nice lobbing Nova Bombs for the duration of the event. I don't think you'll need my help snagging the win, so long as you all show up. If a potential Titan loss isn't enough to get everyone out of bed, maybe the conversation around Armor Synthesis will be motivation to hop through some activities to round out our fashion collections. I've already started poking through quite a few armor sets, planning out my looks for the start of next Season.

Good luck to all, no matter which class you're playing. Hope you enjoy the games, and we'll see you out there in the wild.

    Cheers,

Hey Bungie. This kinetic weapon damage strike modifier is fun. You should add it permanently. Maybe call it "small arms" or something.

    Posted: 22 Apr 2021 03:33 PM PDT

You could also add one that does the same thing for energy weapons! Call it... Specialist? Energist? I dunno, you'll figure something out.

Why am I feeling so nostalgic all the sudden...

Edit: this will get zero reply from bungie but we've been asking since d2 released to bring back some more of the "fun" modifiers into strikes. I see no reason why they can't, seeing as they did on Mars and now again with the games. Strikes need some love and this would be, in my mind, a pretty simple addition to bring back that would breathe some new life into a playlist that hasn't seen hardly any changes since d2 released.

Again, Putting event armour in Eververse makes doing the event pointless

    Posted: 22 Apr 2021 03:26 PM PDT

I bought the armour with my bright dust. Now I guess I'm done because there is nothing to strive for. I'm basically done with Guardian Games. Stop putting everything in Eververse. Same thing with other events. If you cant earn event items what's the point of participating?

I think I have conclusive proof that Bungie are an Ahamkara.

    Posted: 22 Apr 2021 06:30 PM PDT

Point 1: Every time the community has wished for something, it has come out twisted and corrupted.

When we wished for a racing mode in D1, we got SRL, which had like 2 maps and a book that was annoying and a spike in Eververse issues.

When we wished for more exciting loot around the Red War/Forsaken time, the imbalance of it led to sunsetting existing.

And the recent events speak for themselves in how we wished for this system and got a convoluted version with restrictions and some missing versions of sets.

Point 2: Bungie has a surprising amount of charisma despite this, enough to sometimes get what they want.

Before all of this, pretty much this entire season we were singing their praises about how GOOD Season of the Chosen was. Sounds like a good convincing ahamkara argument for wishing don't it? Put forwads good content, make the bitter part of the wish easier to swallow.

And finally, Point 3: Bungie, being in control of the game, have made Ahamkara break the 4th wall several times.

The ahamkara (and to a lesser extent Savathun) have been mentioned multiple times to break the 4th wall. I think it no coincidence that Bungie have in a sense made these forces strong enough to see outside the universe of the game. It's them favoring their bretherin. They even made a entire RAID with one!

    TLDR: Bungie are a Ahamkara.

If GMs are to be the PvE trials equivalent, they need to be equal in rewards. In a future season, can we GM armor sets with glows similar to trials glows

    Posted: 22 Apr 2021 03:46 PM PDT

    Title.

You have the system in place for trials, can we have a similar one for GMs? Even if that GM has to be done with no deaths, PvE players should have GMs be a true PvE equal to Trials, and adding a true armor set with glows and emblems and cosmetics would be a great start.

Revelry was so much more rewarding and interactive than guardian games

    Posted: 22 Apr 2021 04:19 PM PDT

I know a lot of people didn't like the revelry event some because it was just the infinite forest and others because of skip grenade spam but I would much rather have revelry back than guardian games. We got everything we have in guardian games but more and better. We got an Armor set that wasn't apart of ever verse on top of being able to buy ever verse ornaments. We got fricken horns that glow! What do we get in guardian games this year? A sparrow that is completely useless if you have the scourge sparrow and a catalyst which is actually good but thats it. Theres no reason the grind out medals because they aren't rewarding at all. Revelry was so much better looking back. My and my clanmates got to branch 120 just because why not it was just fun. Theres no reason to even step into the guardian games strike playlist at all. Guardian games could never come back and I don't think anybody would really care. You know an event is bad if you can compare it to a pretty version of the infinite forest and it is worse in every possible way.

Create a static default roll for all random roll guns that you can pull from collections

    Posted: 22 Apr 2021 01:54 PM PDT

The core appeal of destiny's gunplay and the main reason sunsetting is so vehemently rejected by the core playerbase is that the guns in destiny almost all have a unique and interesting feel and identity. This causes players to form relationships with these weapons, and it's a really really good thing. There should be a static roll for every weapon that people who had obtained a copy of that weapon could pull, to use for fun, for themed content (i.e. using vex offensive weapons in VoG or GoS), challenge runs, or just for nostalgia.

It'd definitely help players feel more comfortable dismantling old weapons they don't use, but don't dismantle because they're unobtainable now, and soothe the sting for players that *did* dismantle them. There's already a spot for all random roll weapons in collections, I can't imagine it could cause that much data bloat to store a static roll. Though I'm not sure if there are other technical limitations preventing this.

As long as Destiny 2 is Free to Play, Freemium elements will always stain every part of the game.

    Posted: 22 Apr 2021 10:00 PM PDT

Event rewards will be in the eververse. If SRL comes back, the only 180 sparrow will be locked to the eververse, all cool armors will be ornaments (excluding transmog, which also has its own freemium elements), that we either have to pray appears in the bright dust store, or fork over cash to obtain. I would much rather pay a one time fee for a DLC and get access to all content until the next DLC rather than make multiple purchases. (yeah i know the deluxe editions are like that, but its at a marked up price)

I say this as a fully free to play player myself. I would much rather give up destiny 2 if it went pay to play, because then at least then when i earn enough money to buy d2, it will be even more fulfilling than it is now.

D1 had cool cosmetics locked behind challenging activities, like the taken ship, and those cool armors, etc.

Of course going pay to play mean less money for bungie, as these looter style games benefit from a freemium model more, but this puts a stain over the polish of the game IMO

That is why i also understand if Bungie continues with this free to play model. But I would be really excited if D2 went pay to play, and there would be one year's worth of cool content under a one time fee.

I don't think it's fair to blame the whole sub for what changes Bungie makes (ex. PVP maps). One downside of the internet is that a few voices can drown out the majority. Maybe Bungie should offer polls for more things than just FoTL Armor

    Posted: 22 Apr 2021 07:09 AM PDT

Over the years I have seen many complaints about how users of this Sub have caused Bungie to make changes to the game that aren't loved by some. These things include:

    • The size of PVP maps. (I will admit some of those giant ones in D1 made for long games, since neither team could ever get max points).
    • The types of guns used in PVP. There has been a six year battle going over primary vs special. Some players are tired of all the one shot kills and want more primary gun battles. Other players say that they need special weapons to show off their skill gap level.
    • PVP matchmaking. The debate over CBMM vs SBMM will never end.
    • PvE level of difficulty. Anytime something super hard comes out there are rants about content creators and streamers causing Bungie to make things harder for casual players.
    • Trials. The debate over rewards for trails starts up each season. Some want the best rewards just for the elite players, other's say we need better rewards for all players to get the population up.
    • Seasonal content vs DLC content. Anytime there is a bad season users start posting about how Destiny should go back to one DLC a year and stop the seasonal drops.

These are just a few of the debates that came to mind. There have been many more. The problem is that just a few post can make it seem like the community overwhelming feels one way or the other. One a daily basis the top few post on this sub might get around 10K upvotes. That is hardly anything compared to the total userbase of over 2 million. It's a half a percent. Lots of users may miss these post or not feel like getting involved.

Because of that maybe we shouldn't blame each other for the changes Bungie makes. I also hope Bungie has a better way of deciding player wants than a few post on Reddit. Wouldn't it be neat if Bungie implemented a poll in game? Just like they have the weekly news that pops up now. Each player could get one vote on a hot topic.

I would just like to see a better way of finding out which ideas are the most popular than all these constant arguments and finger pointing. The back and forth hasn't changed much in the 6+ years I've been a member of DTG.

TLDR: Even the most popular post on this sub have a small percentage of total user engagement. We shouldn't blame each other for changes Bungie makes. There has to be a better way of finding out which changes players really want.

Look, I get this is a pretty common thing on this sub, but there's good reason for it. Can we please have some PvP maps brought back from the DCV if you don't want to make new ones?

    Posted: 22 Apr 2021 07:08 PM PDT

EVERYBODY wants new PvP maps. I don't know why you refuse to even acknowledge it, but I can't even fathom how you can make a new strike in a season while porting over two old ones while not giving us a single new PvP map. But if you don't want to make new ones, can you rotate in some old ones?

And yeah, I understand that making a PvP map is a lot of work, you need to think about zones, spawn points, heavy ammo spawns, and whatnot, but Crucible is in dire need of some new maps. I'm not even saying this because I hate the meta. I don't think the meta's in a bad spot right now, I'm just sick of playing the same maps five games in a row. Making even just one new PvP map will make very many players happy.

Titans could really use some more single use supers

    Posted: 22 Apr 2021 05:27 PM PDT

Playing with thundercrash has reminded me how nice a one use big damage super is. Maybe an exotic that makes the burning maul into a one use cast that makes a massive fire tornado? Just something that lets me enjoy my gun play while still using my super would be really appreciated

Dear Bungie, If You Suggest I Sit Here and Dismantle Shaders, You Seriously Need to Teach Rahool how to Dismantle Dark Omolon and Envious Touch.

    Posted: 21 Apr 2021 11:26 PM PDT

691 Dark Omolon and 547 Envious Touch, and since Arrivals they haven't been able to be dismantled by the 5-stack at Rahool.

Fun Fact: Add together the amount of those shaders you have, and that's ABOUT how many goddamn Umbrals you opened during Arrivals.

    Eva's Vibrations

So hey bungo, can we put out a quick hotfix to prevent Eva from having a seizure 90% of the time when I go to visit her?

It's great that she's that excited for the guardian games, but its a little disconcerting. I'm worried about our grandma.

You know what I will miss the most once Guardian Games is over?

    Posted: 22 Apr 2021 08:48 AM PDT

The new strike modifiers from the class playlist. I especially love the gold one because it gives Kinetic Weapons more damage. Outbreak Perfected was made for stuff like this and I love it.
