Xur should bring ornaments as well as weapons

    Posted: 12 Nov 2019 05:08 PM PST

Title. Xur should bring an ornament for the weapon he brings each week (randomly chosen between multiples if more than one exists) for bright dust or silver. I'd love if he'd bring old quest exotic ornaments as well though I'm sure Bungie would rather keep at least something in Eververse.

If Xur is going to be Bungie's designated "babby's first exotic" vendor, he should offer something for players who aren't as in need of his gear. As much as I don't want to pay silver for ornaments, that's the only way I see Bungie ever agreeing to something like this.

I once joined an LFG team where they said they would kick you if you caused more than one wipe.

    Posted: 12 Nov 2019 09:43 AM PST

I wasn't too worried because I was very good at my role as Titan in the middle for King's Fall.

The guy running the LFG group ended up causing two wipes, and to my surprise, he then kicked himself.

Well, at least he applied his rule consistently!

Datto is great and all but it sure as hell would be fun to watch Aztecross interview the Bungie crew.

At this point in the story, we’re not longer Eris Morn’s ally, we’re one of her closest friends.

    Posted: 12 Nov 2019 02:20 PM PST

Flew to the moon today to pick up my weekly lore from the Darkness. Grabbed, read it, enjoyed it. When I was about to head out to teabag Ogres in Sorrows Harbor, I hear a voice full of sadness, loneliness, and desperation.

    "Don't die...."

It was Eris. She was just standing there looking at me before finally turning around. Those 2 words were delivered with so much emotion. Bungie I don't know what you're paying the voice actor for Eris, but triple it and give them free Eververse items for a year.

I gush a lot about the voice acting in this game post Forsaken, but man, it's just soooooooooo good.

    [spoiler] Towerthought on Uldren's execution

    Posted: 12 Nov 2019 10:52 AM PST

Uldren was killed by either Petra, using Vestian dynasty or the guardian, using ace of spades.

Vestian dynasty can only roll with dragonfly.

    Ace of spades has firefly.

Theres a high chance that Uldren got fucking exploded upon death.

980 Nightfall Ordeal: the meta and you

    Posted: 12 Nov 2019 09:29 AM PST

Hi. (Tl Dr at the bottom)

I [965-970 power] like to run 980 NF's a lot. I'm not Gladd or anything, but if it makes anyone take this semi-seriously, my friend and I were the world's first to 2-man VoG in (a raid in Destiny 1) without Gjallarhorns during Crota's DLC.

After 40'ish 980's with randoms on LFG and running a bunch of different loadouts, here are my thoughts, starting with the most controversial ones:

    1. Divinity is not too great

    • It buffs two people by 25 or 30% and provides free crits (only useful on hobgoblin barriers)...
    • ... at the expense of you doing little damage on your own, being redundant during oppressive void grenades (which are very abundant with 100 discipline), losing an exotic slot, etc.
      • Edit: it still stacks, but only for now. nerf is imminent from Bungie

    2. Recluse is not too great for 980 NF specifically for most groups (everywhere else in-game for PvE it's OP)

    • In most cases, you can NOT solo pop a barrier because...
    • Range: usually, people like to keep distance in 980's. Distance means damage-fall off. Damage fall-off means less damage AND fewer headshots with most SMGs (you can headshot through barriers). Extended TTK means you are more susceptible to incoming fire. Taking more hits means you hide more trying to recover health for general trash-clearing, or you just die to a barrier champion trying to land all 36 bullets on the head
    • Recluse specifically: this is only good with the Master of Arms perk. You will not reliably and efficiently set this up for every barrier champion
    • With most people being so hard-stuck on meta, you usually have two people with recluse. This, and many other factors lead to a popular mentality: Bungie "forces" load-outs on you, every single exotic weapon in the game needs an artifact slot (although some do need updates to their intrinsic exotic perks), and a general misunderstanding of non-meta gear and their effectiveness

    3. Izanami's is decent, but not required

    • The DPS with the catalyst is only 20% more than a well-rolled 90 RPM sniper, but ammo efficiency is worse than such legendary.
    • With the legendary sniper, two of you can just knock-back a 980 barrier champion and kill him before he recovers, with a measly 2s longer TTK. Harder to do on hobgoblins, but again, that's the only time divinity is justified. Knock-back is the most UNDERRATED (more on this in #5)
      • Knock-back is just doing enough damage to flinch them really hard and are stunned for 2 sec
    • EDIT: is izas better? hell yeah it is. Is it required to kill barrier champions with divinity in under 2 sec? nope. the knock-back will let you kill them before they use barrier.

    4. Most HC's and AR's can solo pop a barrier

    • HC's and AR's have the range and easy headshots over SMG's. Solo breaking with these is easy.
    • Only one person on the team needs an anti barrier gun. For me, I use a kindled orchid with disruption break, a perk that applies a whoopin' 50% kinetic damage debuff to an enemy when I break their shield (including barrier). It allows you to solo kill barrier champions with any special ammo kinetic gun before their 2nd barrier is ready. Without disruption break, you still have teammates with guns. Disruption break is only indicated if you want to solo 980's

    5. Bows > ARs and SMGs for overload

    • Bows instantly overload champions with one arrow. ARs and SMG's spray for half the mag until one bullet lets them overload, half of the time missing because the overload minotaurs teleport.
    • Bows also two-shot all trash mobs from any range, letting you constantly lay down fire without worrying about getting hit (very underrated line of weaponry for 980's, usually overkill everywhere else)

    6. Anarchy is the best

    • You can solo any barrier knight in the mission with hardly any ammo pickups. Using it properly applies knock-back to a barrier champion over and over, until it dies. They aren't able to use their barrier because of knock-back spam. You don't even need anti-barrier rounds on the fireteam. It's funny!
    • In the rare case that the barrier knight manages to get a barrier off, swap to an anti-barrier gun. The anarchy damage ticks will become anti-barrier also and their bubble instantly breaks
    • This weapon is rare, so ask your fireteam if they have it, you'll never know.

    7. Fighting Lion is god tier

    • Everyone is so focused on saving two seconds for killing a barrier champion, that they forget the other 10-15 minutes are spent killing trash and a few bigger baddies.
    • Fighting lion still one-shots multiple trash at a time, while hand cannons take 4-5 headshots for one basic add. One person with this can cut 2 min off of even the fastest kill-all runs.

    8. Swords are not bad

    • With decent rolls, you can solo an unstoppable ogre and barrier champion before they recover from the stagger / popped barrier BY YOURSELF. Swords also hardly use ammo (tribute hall ammo is enough for the entire run, even on Garden World). They also knock-back tough enemies (like the relic-knights on Nokris) so you can kill them without worrying about taking hits.
      • The whole point is to use this if you don't trust teammates to follow up from disruptions / staggers / popped barriers since you can solo them with good speed.
      • Example: One counter-attack sword swing = one mountaintop round
    • Bonus lol's: Stronghold Gauntlets. You can spam block and instantly fully heal + proc counter-attack from anything in the game that is not supposed to bypass your HP (like wipe mechanics), including fall damage

There is a LOT more to add (especially class load-outs), but these were some highlights.

    Tl;Dr

    • Divinity and Recluse are so far above everything else
    • Izanami is good but not by that much
    • Only need one person with any anti-barrier HC or AR
    • Bows are best for overload
    • Anarchy good
    • Fighting lion good
    • Sword decent and most funny

My fastest LFG group without comms on 980 Nokris was 10 minutes using anarchy and fighting lion.

This is a screenshot that I accidentally took after killing the relic-guarded ogre on Nokris (video was corrupt sadly) https://imgur.com/a/5eK4yDz , but you can see at that 6min to kill the ogre is still really god damn fast.

I won't budge the meta, but I hope I can help some people solo-carry anyone with efficient time on LFG, find alternatives to keep things fresh, or stick to the meta but become aware of alternatives!

Thank you for coming to my Tower Talk.

EDIT: Nobody is calling you stupid for using meta loadouts. Use them. This post should be an eye-opener for those who are either bored of it, do not feel like running it, or want to run a solo 980. Sorry if anyone is offended, that is not the purpose. The purpose is to see that other loadouts are just as fast. Most of you arguing it aren't even reading, and those of you that do read and give good feedback - thanks.

Survival: Mulitkills only removes 1 live from the enemy team.

    Posted: 12 Nov 2019 10:24 AM PST

This happens when the opposing team only has 1 live left. Since everybody dies the same time and respawns at the same time, everyone comes back even thou only 1 should have.

    Here is an example: https://imgur.com/a/LfV9Yk7

I lost several games because of that. Pretty sure more people have noticed that too. Either way, it's a bug that should be adressed.

It's Kind of Unbelievable That Clash Doesn't Have A Dedicated Spot in the Crucible Directory

    Posted: 12 Nov 2019 02:16 PM PST

Clash has been in Destiny since day 1. And let's be honest, sometimes you don't want to worry about zones, or crests, or lives. You just want to go in and brawl the other team.

Please give clash its own spot, it 100% deserves one just as much if not more than control.

Edit: Thank you Anon for my first ever gold!

There is zero functional difference between having all the artefact mods available and the current system, except one is pointless busywork that deliberately limits player experimentation.

    Posted: 12 Nov 2019 02:02 AM PST

Each column of the artefact provides one category of item for one type of equipment. Of every piece of equipment in the entire game, not a single one can accept more than 2 mods of the same category. There is no possible build combination that can use more than 2 mods at once from columns 2-5, and column 1 are dump mods so they aren't a considered factor. All the weapon mods only affect primaries (which is another issue), so no more than 2 can be equipped at a time with them.

If every mod were made available at once, not a single aspect of this would change. What would change, however, is the unnecessary headache whenever it came to experimenting with new builds. If I have Arc Battery and Oppressive Darkness unlocked, but I want to try Thunder Coil, I have to spend a constantly increasing amount of glimmer, slot back all the mods I used previously, then clear the annoying flashing icon from every piece of gear that had a seasonal mod equipped. If I decide I don't like it, then I need to do it all again but it costs more.

Nothing is gained from this process. Nothing about this process is creative. No part of this process was tested by an actual human being who would have realised how pointlessly obtuse it is.

    Solutions to fix this:

    • Keep granting points when levelling the artefact.
    • Spend 2-3 points to unlock the entire column.
    • Unlock all mods when reaching 12 points

There are so many questionable to downright terrible interface design decisions in this game, and introducing another doesn't benefit anyone. Levelling things and seeing progress is fun, but nothing about this is progress once you hit 12 points. Instead, I'm being punished for wanting try something new.

Just Picked Up The Game on Steam

    Posted: 11 Nov 2019 11:24 PM PST

I have loved it so far.

Today, I got the Whisper of the Worm with a friend and a random. Last night, myself and 5 of my friends did the Leviathan, which took us around 3.5 hours but it was so much fun.

I can't wait to play this game more and I just bought Shadowkeep as well.

Don't know if anyone cares, but just want to share my appreciation for the game.

Pit of Heresy's Masterwork armor has terrible stats, but sharding them gives you 6 enhance prisms and 6 enhancement cores

    Posted: 12 Nov 2019 09:53 AM PST

For those that are not aware, beating pit of heresy's final boss gives you guaranteed masterworked armor... with horrible stats :(. As the title suggests though, sharding them gives you prisms and cores that you can use for other powerful armor. I do understand that they are pinnacle light gear.. but i personally would rather save up materials than focus on a temporarily useful surge in light.

The raid should drop enhancement prism(s) and or Ascendent shard(s)

    Posted: 12 Nov 2019 10:32 AM PST

Pinnacle activity should provide "pinnacle" rewards. The logic is there.

Gameplay Rewards From Activities Are Great, But Cosmetic Ones Are Lacking And That Feels Bad

    Posted: 12 Nov 2019 10:24 AM PST

For the record, I don't have a problem with Eververse itself. Destiny has completely changed its monetization model and its going to go through some growing pains and that's exactly what these are. Hopefully Bungie takes feedback from this season and going forward makes things more pallatable for most players.

What really feels bad is that compared to Forsaken and almost all of year 2, cosmetic rewards from gameplay kind of suck. Forsaken had some super cool unique models for ghosts, ships, and sparrows from the Dreaming City and a super cool taken sparrow, while the Moon gets some bland reskins (except for the Moon ship, that one's pretty neat) of already existing shells and ships, with the Dungeon and Altars cosmetics being particularly bad offenders. There is nothing Hive themed about them besides the Crota's Bane logo slapped on them. There is no NF-exclusive loot for either of the new strikes or the PS exclusive one and the Master Nightfall ship is a bland legendary reskin with a vanguard symbol on it. There are no raid cosmetics at all save for some shaders and an emblem, compared to even the y2 annual pass raids which had cosmetics drop from a triumph (Crown) or random chance at a chest (Scourge). Last Wish even had a full suite of cosmetics unique to it. Garden is the first raid since they added the Contenders Shell to drop no cosmetics besides shaders. The Iron Banner Ship is the exact same model as the Solstice ship from last season with a different graphic.

If Bungie simply didn't have the time or resources to create unique models that would be understandable to me. But these cool cosmetics exist. Hidden Swarm ghost shell? Check. Sparrow? Also check. Ship? You betcha. Sparrow and Ship that look a lot like Divinity? Check and check. Even a vex themed sparrow that could have dropped from some Vex Offensive or Seasonal Triumph? Yup. Cool ghost shell that carries our Dreambane theme? Yup.

Its frustrating to see such a downgrade to the cosmetic earnable in game from previous seasons. There are more reasons than ever to do high level content, with pinnacle gear and high end materials dropping only from those activities. But you can't show any of that off. Destiny is supposed to be a game where you climb mountains and from the summit with cool trophies. More and more we're losing those trophies to the store because of things like Titles, but those aren't the same things at all. Please, keep selling more things like the silly Fighting Lion and Jotuun sparrows. I want you guys to earn money and have more revenue streams to put into the game and get bonuses for the great game you make. But please leave the themed items in the game where they belong.

Thanks for coming to my TED talk.

As a middle tree voidwalker, my prediction is that once OEM is dealt with and players optimize grenade builds better, Contraverse Holds will be the next most oppressive exotic.

    Posted: 12 Nov 2019 12:28 PM PST

If you know me, I am one to use the term "uncounterable" almost never, and I'm against nerfs.

That being said, as someone who's approaching a perfect grenade build with contraverse, I will say that it's fairly uncounterable.

To run it, you use a fire-type bond with either Dis+Bomber/ashes+Enhanced Bomber/Enhanced Ashes. Or Enhanced Bomber+ Enhanced Assets/Enhanced Bomber (you can stack bomber perks but not ashes).

If you do this right, you get a grenade every 32 seconds then 15-17, as you can pop your rift and get anywhere from 1/3-1/2 charge back.

Then put Dis at 100. If you're using Ashes to Assets, try to get intellect high so you can get 1st super in a match easily. truly makes supernova uncounterable in the sense that you can eat an entire shotgun or fusion rifle, and even low-impact sniper headshots.

Keep in mind your super double resets your handheld supernova. So feel free to use it mid-super to be basically unkillable. you get your handheld back for free when your super ends no matter what (for some reason some people still don't know this.

another tip "fastball" increases range and tightens spread of handheld (and I think it also increases radius of projectiles. Few people know that.

After getting the kill off, you get darkmatter which then heals you.

You can also use contraverse as a way to peak lanes or bait shots by cooking your grenades and tanking damage and then cancelling your cook with a melee.

Also, what's most frightening is that you can cook handheld immediately out of blink whereas weapons require draw time. You can blink intosomeone and use the cook to tank the shotgun then release.

You can also guarantee a gunfight win by using devour and therefore even if your enemy shoots you first, if you can get 1 shot off you can cook your grenade to tank their clip then get full health.

I have an 85% winrate at 5500 comp and I've been playing voidwalker exclusively in PvP (I only have Voidwalker unlocked on my 1 character). I don't usually use contraverse as I'm not a fan of gimmicks (I prefer astrocyte or ophidians/transversive for better neutrals), but even when I used a not fully optimized variant of a contra build, it was very powerful to say the least.

TLDR: ##I think this build will very quickly become very powerful as people find out about it and optimize it.

That Ability Kill Iron Banner bounty was brutal

    Posted: 12 Nov 2019 12:17 PM PST

I finished everything else and still needed to do about ten more matches to get it done. then I was stuck at 99% for over an entire match with like over twenty kills. It honestly felt like each kill was only giving one percent progress. Can we not have so many of them any more. Grenade and melee kills are the worse to get kills with. Only Titan shoulder charges are the reliable ones.

Edit: One of my friends pointed out that at least it's not as bad as the Create Orbs of Light bounties we used to have.

Finally got the gun I always wanted!

    Posted: 12 Nov 2019 04:24 PM PST

Aright, this ain't no godroll, but I always liked the hakke weapons since they resemble realistic modern guns.

(My fav real gun being a Tavor SAR Rifle with an ACOG style scope)

Ever since random rolls came back, I ALWAYS wanted a Eystein-D with full-auto, and finally got one! I just think it's funny because exotics always gave me a "meh" reaction when I got one, but with this, I actually had a holy shit reaction since it took me over a year to get one.

Gunsmith Telemetry should give as much reputation as tokens do for Crucible/Vanguard/IB.

    Posted: 12 Nov 2019 03:02 PM PST

Title. I understand weapon parts being garbage for leveling up the gunsmith. That's fair, considering how stupid many we get (I still think 100 per level is a bit much, but that's not my argument right now).

Even with an omni-telemetry ghost and exploitative usage of Recluse, however, I still only get a couple dozen Telemetry a week. The pitiful amount of reputation they give for their rarity is just sad. They're not worth trying to get. It should be 20 Telemetry to a level, like tokens.

    Git gud

    Posted: 12 Nov 2019 10:08 AM PST

So I don't do this often but i couldn't help it.

We were playing Crucible with my fireteam, competitive. The other two from my team are my two boys, 9 and 11 years old. The 9 years old really wants the Recluse so we are pushing hard. He already has the 2100 Glory points, but he needs two more wins. It's an 'intense' Sunday morning...

Well, next game starts and we lose the first encounter . We do win the next four and win the game. I get a message from one guy from the opposing team: "trash". Normally I ignore these but that day I couldn't, it just seemed too funny. He also sent one to the kids.

Here is the conversation that happened, let's just call the guy "Loser" for this snapshot.

    [Loser] Trash

[Me] well you do realize you are playing against me and my two boys, 9 and 11? So 'git gud' buddy.

[Loser] 9 and 11 stop making jokes kid

[Loser] I have a higher KD than you all

[Me] congrats. But you still lost. Have a good day.

And then we promptly took a family picture and sent it to the guy. I would have paid money to see his face at that point :)

Remember that one time when Cayde-6 got his arm cut off and said he’d replace it with a gun or something and got the same old arm?
