As a day 1 player, I have spent about 160 bucks for this game and almost all its dlc. Having to pay upwards of 10 bucks for the coolest cosmetic items (which I can't earn through gameplay) doesn't give me the feeling that my money was well spent.

It’s completely unfair that Sleeper Simulant has gotten the amount of nerfs that its got

    Posted: 13 Nov 2019 07:07 PM PST

I seriously forgot this gun existed, and only remembered when I went to pull out Thunderlord. Sleeper has been irrelevant in every activity except gambit, yet they insisted to keep on nerfing this poor gun.

For those who don't know, Sleeper Simulant has received the following nerfs

    • Base Damage Reduced
    • Charge time increased
    • Aim assist nerfed
    • Ammo reserves nerf
    • Ricochet bonus damage nerfed

Let's be honest here, nobody used Sleeper Simulant in PvE once they got Whisper. It wasn't until Gambit was introduced, that people started to use it again...... Before it was nerfed again.

Then Last Wish came out and One Thousand Voices brought some competition, it dealt more damage per shot than Sleeper, with a faster charge time (to be fair it's not really that much faster), without needing to get precision hits either. Oh, and it's also aoe too. The only thing that really kept Sleeper hanging was its larger ammo reser-

Nope, that totally needs a nerf.

Well why should I use this gun now?

Oh that's right, you can theoretically deal around 5x the damage if you hit all of the ricochet shots. Sure, it's not consistent at all but that's the only way I'll be able to make this gun viab- NERF

Well now what? There is no reason to run this gun ever, especially since Leviathans Breath is fundamentally the same thing but better (due to its intrinsic unstoppable rounds) This gun was hit by a truck, fell downhill, thrown into a grinder and yet nobody helped him.

Please Bungie do anything to make this precision based big ass fusion rifle actually useful for once, increase its ammo reserves? Maybe make it so that lading a precision hit will increase damage until you next reload, that would be good too. Because in its current state it fails to be good at what's its intended to do.

Create Pinnacle Armor Sets instead of Weapons

    Posted: 13 Nov 2019 08:57 AM PST

Since Bungie has abandoned Pinnacle weapons due to their OP nature, why not create a pinnacle armor set for Vanguard, Gambit, and Crucible?

VERY unique looking, high stat rolls, and maybe even the ability to pick your affinity for the armor?

This could be a nice compromise of grinding for something that is really cool aesthetically and has good use, but wouldn't risk breaking the game and there wouldn't be a need to worry about buffing or nerfing anything.

I'd settle for Ritual weapons easier if pinnacle armor became a thing.

EDIT: If my clan keeps reading this and downvoting my comments like the trolls you all are, I swear to god you're all gonna feel my wrath! LOL (Hi Distractics Clan :D)

EDIT 2: Thanks for the gold!

EDIT 3: I think adding a perk for using the entire set for an activity could also grant you some sort of helpful activity related perk. Like the full crucible set from entering the match to finishing the match grants increased valor and 25-50% less glory loss in competitive. Or something like that. Would help rid the game of some crutch exotics like OEM and Wormhusk at least in Survival.

EDIT 4: Since some people think the team that designs armor would bleed out and die having to add these armor sets each season, I think a great compromise would be to release one each season until all three are done until the next expansion and do it again.

EDIT 5: Or maybe they have these once an expansion to cut down on the workload? THERE ARE OPTIONS.

Bungie, the new nightfalls need exclusive loot.

    Posted: 13 Nov 2019 06:16 AM PST

One of the first things the players wanted back after d2 vanillas launch was strike exclusive loot, and you eventually gave it to us.

I think just stopping this now without any word of why or if and when those get added is a huge mistake.

Those strikes are pretty good and fun to run, but especially as nightfalls, there is not much incentive to run them at all. Same goes for broodhold.

I get that you have had many other things to create towards this expansion plus being on your own now surely has made many things kind of difficult, but don't let gameplay and loot that is universally liked die on the side because of the next flavor of the month activity.

    Thanks for reading.

Edit: wow, this kind of blew up, wasn't expecting that! Thanks for all the support fellow guardians!

No PvE weapons should be nerfed as long as Recluse stays in the state it’s in

    Posted: 13 Nov 2019 07:14 AM PST

    What the title says.

As long as the Recluse stays in the absolute slayer mode it's in there is really ZERO reason to nerf other weapons when it comes to PvE. Anything else anyone is using is going to be done so out of FUN and a desire to mix it up. Literally any other gun used in an ad wipe situation is putting the player at a disadvantage.

Hand Cannons should not have been nerfed on regular trash ads(taking more than a one shot headshot feels bad). Not to mention the absolute destruction of Breakneck and Redrix.

I'm not saying Recluse needs a nerf, I'm saying there is no reason to nerf other weapons in PvE because nothing else has matched the insane ttk of Recluse.

Edit: One other thing this topic highlights is that PC AND CONSOLE NEED TO BE BALANCED SEPARATELY

Edit: Too many replies to get to everyone. Glad this started a conversation and shout out to my mom and dad for giving me silvers.

I went back to D1 for a few hours last night. And I must say...Destiny 3 MUST have creative armor, weapon, and Sparrow designs comparable to Destiny 1's.

    Posted: 13 Nov 2019 11:02 AM PST

Just look at the Destiny 1 designs below. We truly need designs as creative and fun as these.

Bungie, look. I like some Destiny 2 designs, but they're seriously lacking when compared to their Destiny 1 counterparts. For example, D1 Age of Triumph raid gear is by far the best armor designs ever created for Destiny 1 or 2. Why can't that level of creatively be the norm? Not a single armor set in Destiny 2 has been nearly as creative as those.

Take your time. Do what you have to do. But for D3, or future D2 content if there's no D3, please renew your focus in creative design.

EDIT: To the individuals saying that D2 Sparrows are superior to D1 designs, you are correct in a sense. Destiny 2 has better, more unique Sparrow models. However, D1 Sparrows have more creative animations and effects.

Sparrows that I adored back in Destiny 1:

    E-47 Prismatica

    • When you boost, the sparrow changes in the color of the rainbow

    • (My favorite Sparrow design, EVER.)

    EV-45 Bitfire:

    • When you boost, the flames turn a blue color. When you slow, the flames turn an orange color. Similar to how hot a fire burns

    EV-46 Bitstorm

    • When you boost, the Sparrow emits Arc energy/Lightning

    EV-36 Solscout:

    • When you boost, the Sparrow emits solar flames from the sides

    EV-35 Arcrunner:

    • When you boost, the Sparrow emits lightning in the negative space in the front of the Sparrow

    S-35 Jealousy:

    • The FotL Sparrow that, when boosted, emits green flames

    XV-2 Replicator:

    • Wrath of the Machine Raid Sparrow that, when boosted, turns the entire Sparrow into SIVA particles

    XV-1 Usurper:

    • King's Fall raid sparrow that, when boosted, shows a Taken appearance

    • Note: I do think the Taken Sparrow from Forsaken is better and my favorite Destiny 2 sparrow I've acquired so far. 94 runs of Scourge and still no Always on Time.

    EV-47 Voidstreak: (Destiny 1's version)

    • When boosted, a black hole appears in the negative space in the front of the Sparrow

EV-47 Voidstreak: (Destiny 2's neutered version)

    • When boosted, you get nothing...no animations.

EDIT 2: Bungie, please introduce some sort of Sparrow quest that'll allow us to obtain a Sparrow like the one's above. Here is a link to a Sparrow Racing League quest I submitted awhile back. This won't bring back SRL, but honor's it's memory. Thanks.!

EDIT 3: ALSO, DON'T YOU DARE PUT THEM IN EVERVERSE. I'D RATHER SPARROW RACING LEAGUE COME BACK -- AND THAT THEY'RE ALL EARNABLE IN GAME AS YOU RANK UP.

    Thank you :)

    Customizable Shader Concept

    Posted: 13 Nov 2019 03:37 PM PST

    Shader-Shifter

So I had this idea a while back and finally decided to do a little concept for it. Im aware that I didn't use the proper font for Destiny UI but im pretty much a blueberry when it comes down to photoshopping. (Also the font costs money)

Obviously this concept is just a rough idea how something like this could look like. Bungie could go much further with a tool like this by adding a color palette or effects/animations you can choose from. So instead of just choosing a shader you would rather choose a Color and add an effect or pattern to it. Maybe if im not too busy and people actually like the concept ill try to build further upon this idea.

Some random UI Ideas I had but didn't implement:

    • adding something like an expense bar (e.g. 4 Legendary Shards 2000 Glimmer)
    • adding the option to use shaders from your inventory or collection to decrease/increase the cost of the new shader you are about to create
    • obviously, naming the shader you create
    • clicking on "choose shader" would bring up a menu that lets you choose from any shader you have discovered, they should either be arranged like they are in your collection or you could just sort them by color
    • clicking on preview would bring up your guardian like its currently working with shaders from your inventory (obviously it would be pretty cool to actually choose what you are going to preview, like weapons or a curtain armor piece)

    Some other Ideas:

    • this being a quest item that you actually have to obtain somehow (I really like the idea that it could be some endgame tool, that is fairly hard to get)
    • This one is probably going too far but im still going to tell you... Imagine you inspect a random blueberry and you really like the custom shader she/he has on her/his weapon, there could be an option to instantly create this shader or the option (save shader/idea for later)
    • much more but I forgot most of it...

Upon finishing this I don't really like the idea anymore about leaving the shader names next to the shader, it feels unnecessary and distracting and doesn't really serve a purpose. The only purpose I came up with (while writing this), is that people could take a screenshot off of it so it would be easier to share or recreate a specific shader.

Hope you guys like the idea about a tool like this ingame. Let me know what you think about it and go easy on my editing skills. :)

Can we have enhancement cores drop after crucible games if you use a finest matterweave?

    Posted: 13 Nov 2019 12:12 PM PST

Currently sat on 24 of them and I don't really play PVE, it also helps in the sense of on console the load times are so unbearable that I don't want to continuously pop them when I do play PVE content, so I end up forgetting, but if it's one after every crucible game it kinda balances out.

Yo Bungie! Can we get Trace rifle mods?

    Posted: 13 Nov 2019 05:22 AM PST

I know some auto rifle perks work for them, but we don't have working scavenger or reserves for them yet,to my knowledge! Weren't they in the Shadowkeep preview?

I love blasting people with the tzzzzzzzzzzzzpppp as much as the next guy, but it feels like I have a heavy equipped, and just switch to it now and then for a major/boss. Come onnnnn! Part with that extra ammo!

Why don't Phantasmal Fragments stack past 30?

    Posted: 13 Nov 2019 11:30 AM PST

First, it's ridiculous that they don't stack to 9999 like everything else.

But second, with Phantasmal Cores costing 20 fragments, the stack limit of 30 is the worst possible choice... If you have a full stack in your inventory, and a full stack in your postmaster, you can't empty your inventory to be able to claim the postmaster stack with DIM. So you end up having to go to the postmaster in person to pick up the partial stack.

To belabor the point, if you want to spend 60 fragments (30 in your inventory, and 30 in your postmaster) you have to:

    1. Go to the moon, spend 20.
    2. Go to the tower, collect 20.
    3. Go to the moon, spend 20.
    4. Go to the tower, collect 10.
    5. Go to the moon, spend 20.

Thanks for the 'space autopilot simulator' Bungie....

Armor 2.0 is a step forward, but the way older armor stats are allocated in multiples of 5 with 2.0 feels better.

    Posted: 13 Nov 2019 10:15 AM PST

In case people don't know, year 1 and year 2 armor stats have been modified to the new armor 2.0 stats, but they're rolled in multiples of 5 instead of random numbers.

For instance, a year 2 armor piece could be:

    • 0 Mobility
    • 10 Resilience
    • 20 Recovery
    • 5 Discipline
    • 5 Intellect
    • 10 Strength

While a year 3 armor 2.0 piece could be:

    • 8 Mobility
    • 9 Resilience
    • 10 Recovery
    • 2 Discipline
    • 17 Intellect
    • 6 Strength

Having stats allocated only in multiples of 5 makes it easier to find a piece of armor that bumps you up to the next threshold of 10 and take advantage of all the stat points for a specific build. I wish all armor 2.0 rolled this way, not just the older armor.

Posted this is in the armor 2.0 megathread late last week, and posting separately for visibility.

Edit: To add a little more feedback to the subject, rolling in multiples of 5 would also allow for a grind towards that "perfect fit" missing piece of gear for an armor build, which I believe is currently missing from the endgame. Not once have I attempted to hunt for a specific numerical stat roll of a gear item beyond high (insert stat) because the RNG is too large to roll what you're looking for with an exact distribution across 6 different stats, even if you take out the probability for the item rolling in the EXACT item slot with the EXACT elemental affinity, both of which would only be possible to target-grind through Menagerie.

If some math-savvy redditors could do the calculations (something with factorials?), we could compare the RNG required to roll an exact gear piece you're looking for with the current system vs multiples of 5. For example, let's take 50 as an average stat roll for an item. Having an item roll with your desired individual number combination up to 50 in 6 different potential stat categories is insane. Instead, having 50 total stats split up into 10 different stat "packages" across 6 different stat categories would be more manageable, but there would still be a large number of potential rolls, especially when you factor in needing to roll for all 5 different armor pieces...plus elemental affinity, but that is another topic entirely.

It would be much more rewarding to even have a chance to hunt for a specific stat build. That stat hunt for a specific build you're looking for simply isn't possible with the current RNG of stat numbers being distributed individually.

How to enable more than 12 mods in your artifact.

    Posted: 13 Nov 2019 07:03 AM PST

Don't really care to send it to bungie, but I think people should make use of it while they still can. Not 100% sure this will work for every mod, but these are the steps I used to recreate it 3 times.

This is NOT a visual bug, I have tested every single mod on my artifact and they all work. I'm at -3 with 15 mods total.

    https://i.imgur.com/ylXMVoy.png

    1. Equip the mods you don't want to spend points on into armor/weapons

    2. With those mods still active and equip, reset your artifact.

    3. Restart your game completely.

    4. Put in the mods you want, avoiding the ones you already placed in your armor that you wanna avoid spending points on (not sure if there's a number limit, but you still need to pass requirements for each tier, I haven't seen more than a 15 mod -3 remaining artifact)

    5. Replace the inactive mods.

    6. Wait till a few hours or till daily reset and restart again (whichever is longer)

    7. The mods you originally equip to your armors/weapons should now reappear on your artifact, fully functional.

I've done this twice successfully with the intent of recreation, and once accidentally. Interestingly though I did go from -1 to -2 to -3 without thinking about it across my tests.

EDIT: If this doesn't work for you on reset today please clarify the mods you tried with.

We can probably make a comprehensive setup if this isn't perfect. Just because it's consistent for me doesn't 100% mean everyone's will work.

EDIT 2: Got some positive reports and some negative, there may be a bit more to it, if we can find any comparisons we can refine the process.

EDIT 3: Think this works if you wait long enough

Google employees have spent the past 6 months working at Bungie headquarters: “Our goal was to establish a level of cross collaboration, transparency, and shared goals on quality where the Bungie developers knew they could bring up any issues without hesitation or delay.”

IGN has just posted an article talking about Google's dedication to Stadia's launch with Destiny. I have included some quotes from the article. The quoted pieces are spoken by Stadia's Technical Account Manager Oliver Teckert.

"The players have a set expectation for how Destiny feels and plays today. We need to meet, or exceed that expectation."

"We knew the best results would be produced by one team with one culture working towards a unified goal...to play Destiny anytime, anywhere through Stadia."

"We wanted to take the time to deeply understand aspects of their game and technology to ensure we really understood how best to work with them, and most importantly, why those decisions were made,"

"And not just for Destiny 2, as Teckert even said they've taken that philosophy back to Google when bringing other games to Stadia. "They've helped us further anchor our decision making on what is most meaningful to the player, rather than an isolated problem solving approach."

"During development, it really felt like we're just a bunch of excited developers working on a game we all love." Teckert himself was a hardcore Destiny fan even before being assigned to this project, telling me he's been actively playing (and generally at the max Light level) since he started the first game.

"I never get tired of watching the disbelief or skepticism turned to pure joy when someone tries it for the first time."

"We've come to expect to see them everyday, and it is strange to think that we will rotate to other titles... It is a bittersweet ending and we'll miss working with them on a daily basis."

The article is worth the read. All in all, it seems the relationship between Stadia and Bungie is strong and they are determined to launch a successful new chapter for the Destiny community.

Any chance we will ever see Small Arms and Specialist make a return as modifiers to strikes, outside of extremely specific Mercury only adventures?

    Posted: 13 Nov 2019 11:19 AM PST

Heavyweight is fun and all, but I sure miss the other two being in the game.

For those who don't know, they work just like heavyweight, but for your kinetic and special (now energy) slots.

Also a reminder that being powerful in non pinnacle activities hurts absolutely nobody.

Edit: The special slot I refer too is what the energy slot is now, for non-D1 players. Old habits. Thanks to the commenter who clarified in the comments.

Year 1 faction armor ornaments should be available to earn again, at least for a brief period of time

    Posted: 13 Nov 2019 05:37 AM PST

In year one there were armor ornaments for the Crucible, Vanguard, and Iron banner armor sets. This was awesome because I didn't have to have a bunch of different armor pieces: I could mix and match the new looks with ease. Now, with armor 2.0, I feel this style of releasing new armor looks is very appropriate.

In addition to this, many of the armor ornaments were through unlock, which I think is awesome because it provides a new grind. Being able to do this for the new armor sets would be very convenient, especially because it is all randomized anyway so why not have one set drop with random stats rather than 7 sets drop (with different aesthetics) with random stats?

At the very least I would like to see players once more have the opportunity to obtain the year one armor ornaments for these sets, even if only available to earn again for just a brief period of time.

Additionally in the future it would be really cool to see this model of introduction of new armor looks implemented into the already existing armor sets and armor sets to come in the future.

Edit: A lot of arguments are being made for the rightful exclusivity of the aforementioned ornaments. This is totally valid, and I get that it should be reserved for those who were there and earned it. The reason I suggested that year one ornaments become available briefly again is for New Light players and players who, like myself, weren't as committed to the grind in year one as they are now (but to be fair, you get what you earn). Regardless, they should be universal for my previous point of simplicity.

Another point I saw that I thought was awesome was the idea of year one sets being made into universal ornaments (which I agree with, as I advocate for complete armor-to-universal-ornaments) through challenges (just like the previous ornaments). This would be an incredible way to incorporate the complete armor-to-universal-ornaments idea so as to make it something you earn (i.e. earning the right to wear it as an ornament).

This not only would smoothly integrate the armor-to-universal-ornaments idea, but also add a cool grind for players looking for something to do casually.

Got Bored, Came Up with Dumb Modifiers

    Posted: 13 Nov 2019 05:20 AM PST

So, some friends and I got bored doing strikes and started talking about some modifiers to spice things up. Something that provides a unique challenge, but also are ridiculous. If you have any other ideas that would be fun, I'd love to hear them!

    Shit Modifiers:

Linked Death: One person dying means everyone dies.

    Friendly Fire: Self Explanatory

Shared Damage: All damage is split between all guardians

Floor is Lava: Just like the tower debuff

Mr. President: One guardian deals 200% more damage and takes 200% more damage. The other two take 200% less damage but deal 200% less damage

Stranger Danger: Getting too close to allies and enemies causes you to take damage

Wrong Flavor: Using a gun with the Prism Element causes you to take that damage instead

    Mega-Brawler: Melee-only 1-shots, 1 hp, and 2x speed

Sike, You Thought: Enemies can drop a trickster engram that kills you on pickup

Watch out, Watch out, Watch out: Chance a normal enemy is disguised screeb that one hits on explosion

It Burns!!!: Scorch cannons only, Solar damage increased from all sources

Metal Gear Solid: Gain invisible on a precision or melee kill. Take constant damage while not invisible

This is Just Super: Only deal damage with super. Landing hits with weapons charges your super, but doesn't deal damage

Grab Bag: Each time you get a kill with a weapon, it swaps to another random weapon in that slot (starts with 1/4 ammo, requires 9 guns in inventory)

Bumper Guardians: Gun damage reduced by 75%, but enemies now take ramming damage scaled by movement speed

Wait.. That's Illegal: Fight 2 Strike Bosses at the same time

Bank Those Motes!: All enemies now drop motes. Banks spawn in during strikes. Depositing enough motes replaces the strike boss with an over-sized primeval

Moonwalk: Low gravity physics effect (by u/thelarusso)

Kill 'Em All: Every enemy must be killed to progress, more enemies spawn (by u/thelarusso)

There Can Be Only One..: After the final objective, Friendly Fire is turned on and guardians must fight for loot. Last one standing gets 3x rewards (by u/thelarusso)

Aero-die-namic: Jump abilities are enabled/disabled in random intervals (by u/The_OblivionDawn)

Cast Away: Revives Disabled. Teleport to Ascendant Plane on death, must kill all taken in area to respawn. Extinguish is on (by u/Senatorial)

Dodge ball: Fusion grenades only. One-shot with inherent Fastball perk enabled, 2 second recharge, and no AOE (by u/fyvskin)

I Know You Are But What Am I?: Shielded enemies occasionally reflect damage back (by u/hiddencamela)

Wind Beneath My Wings: Accuracy is maximized in-air, minimized when not (by u/hiddencamela)

Shine Bright: All explosions, grenades, and supers cause blindness to nearby allies and enemies. Stacks (by u/Hansledane)

Trickle: Abilities only regen on kill/have reduced cool-down (by u/timeemac and u/HintoTokala)

Packaged Shit Modifiers: (Modifiers stacked together for more fun!)

Feel My Pain: Linked Death, Friendly Fire, Shared Damage

Protect the President: Linked Death, Mr. President

Um, Do I Know You?: Mr. President, Stranger Danger

    RIP Petras: Linked Death, Extinguish

Just Desserts: Wrong Flavor, Friendly Fire

Scorched Earth: It Burns!!!, Friendly Fire, Floor is Lava

Gun Game: Grab bag, Juggler, Brawler, w/ locked inventory (by u/Fireheart318s_Reddit)

EDIT: Damn, you guys have some great additions! I'll add some to the list (with credit) once I get home :)

Friendly reminder: We’re still waiting for Y1 strike exclusive weapons to get updated with the new perk set.

    Posted: 13 Nov 2019 06:37 AM PST

Like many others here, I spent a considerable amount of time grinding for weapons like Silicon Neuroma, the Braytech Rocket Launcher & Duty Bound.

We'd all love to bust these bad boys out. And while we technically can, these weapons are massively inferior in today's modern sandbox.

There's several posts here about how Bungie made some decisions that aren't respectful of the time players have spent in this game - and I believe this is a big one.

Snagging the Braytech Launcher was just as exciting to me as pulling Anarchy! But I can currently use one and not the other. Getting the god roll Grasp of Malik in D1 was an incredible feeling I'll never forget.

One idea: if these weapons suffer the same problem as Midnight Coup, etc - could Bungie remake these weapons with slightly tweaked names and swap them out in the loot pool?

Seems like a simple swap, and I'd love to hear from u/Cozmo23 on why we can't make this happen.

EDIT: Whoa, thanks for the silver! Wondering if we'll get a response from u/Cozmo23 or u/dmg04 on this subject.

From a PVE Player Who Has Played More PVP in the Past Month Than I Care to Admit, Thanks, Bungie.

    Posted: 13 Nov 2019 11:47 AM PST

I predominantly play PVE. I'm one of those people who doesn't usually venture into PVP unless I "have to". I'm an average player and I tend to get a bit tilted sometimes, hah (I'm working on it).

When Season of the Undying started, I looked at the requirements for the seasonal title (as many of you did) and decided it was doable and I was going to go for it. In the process of getting Randy's Throwing Knife, I got to know the freelancer queue and Momentum Control pretty well. Because of the addition of these two modes, PVP opened up A LOT for me. Long story short, on the road to Randy's, I also ended up unlocking The Recluse, The Mountaintop, and the Jade Rabbit catalyst — three things I never thought I'd be able to get. Last night I unlocked Randy's, so that makes four things that, as a PVE player, I never thought I'd have access to. Because of these new changes though, PVP has opened up for me and it's been a lot more enjoyable.

Bottom line is, big thanks to Bungie for putting in the work to make these new modes a reality and in so doing, opening up more of the game to players who may not believe they could ever be good enough in PVP to reap the rewards. I know there's a lot of conversation in the community about PVP players and easier access to masterwork materials, so there's still some work to do on the other side of things, but these modes have been a huge step in the right direction imo.

Clash should be a part of the core playlists

    Posted: 13 Nov 2019 01:38 PM PST

Don't really have much to add here. I just think it should be. A simple team deathmatch mode without having to capture (or frustratingly watch your team run past zones) would be great to play whenever instead of at specific times.

Lore Meanings of the Season of the Undying Weapon Names (X-Post from /DestinyLore)

    Posted: 13 Nov 2019 01:03 PM PST

So when I first started playing Vex Offensive in Destiny 2: Shadowkeep, I noticed the seemingly odd names of the weapons you can get from drops or from Ikora's Data Seed bounties. I recognized the words as having some sort of grammatical / linguistic meaning, but I wasn't familiar with their use. Also, I thought it was puzzling that weapon names would seemingly be pulled at random from the dictionary.

Turns out, they are not random! All of the weapon names could be interpreted to fit in with the Vex Future, which is used throughout Curse of Osiris content. Without any spoilers, I believe these weapon names could be hints at what Ikora is doing building the Vex Gate in the tower.

Below definitions come from the Wikipedia article on "Grammatical mood." Item text comes from Destinypedia.com

Imperative - The imperative mood expresses direct commands, prohibitions, and requests

"We must stop the weavers before they seal the Garden and begin to summon back its heart."— Ikora Rey

Optative - The optative mood expresses hopes, wishes or commands

"If only you could see yourself. But you have no eyes. Not the dimmest sense survives…"

Adhortative - Relating to the giving of advice; tending to adhort. (Wiktionary)

"So... you think you can kill a god?"— Ghost

Subjunctive - The subjunctive mood, sometimes called conjunctive mood, has several uses in dependent clauses. Examples include discussing imaginary or hypothetical events and situations, expressing opinions or emotions, or making polite requests

[u.1:01] Any given match there's twelve of us, tops. The Vex recommit to gardening Darkness, who says we've got enough guns to stop 'em? [u.2:02] Stop 'em? Pretty sure our deaths are just meant to be the early warning system."— Weapon Description

Stay with me...Bungie is about to blow our minds again...If you read the Wikipedia article on Grammatical mood, you may have seen references to the words: Realis, Irrealis, Jussive. In the article's section links are the words "Mirative", "Epistemic" and "Deontic." They are related to "Realis" (What is real) and "Irrealis" (What is not real).

Well guess what?! Those words are all titles of recently released lore entries related to Praedyth, [Ishtar-Collective] a member of the original Fireteam to enter the Vault of Glass. (See mention of Praedyth below for how this may tie in to future story...)

    Deontic - what should be

    Epistemic - what may be

Jussive - is a grammatical mood of verbs for issuing orders, commanding, or exhorting (within a subjunctive framework)

Mirative - is a grammatical category in a language, independent of evidentiality, that encodes the speaker's surprise or the unpreparedness of their mind

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Additionally, the weapons you can unlock as part of the Season of the Undying season pass appear to share the same theme of "time".

Pluperfect - Auto Rifle unlocked at Season Rank 30

    • The item text for the Pluperfect weapon is "builds builds builds builds the past."
    • At Season Rank 88, you unlock an ornament for Pluperfect called "They Had Built."

There are multiple meanings of the word pluperfect, but if you stay with the grammatical meaning, it refers to a verb tense. Definitions from dictionary.com and Wiktionary are both insightful, but I prefer the one from Dictionary.com, because the example usage seems similar to "They had built." In other words, "They Had Built" is itself pluperfect!

    Pluperfect - adj. - Grammar

    1. perfect with respect to a point of reference in past time, as had done in He had done it when I came. (Dictionary.com)

Temporal Clause - Machine Gun unlocked at Season Rank 45

    • The item text for Temporal Clause is "the future narrows narrows narrows narrows."
    • At Rank 95, you unlock an ornament for Temporal Clause called "Let the Future Narrow."

    temporal - adj. - Grammar.

    1. of, relating to, or expressing time :a temporal adjective, such as recent, or a temporal adverb, such as recently.
    2. of or relating to the tenses of a verb. -- Dictionary.com

Temporal clause - a type of dependent adverbial clause indicating the timing of an action, e.g. "She was talking to her sister [while I was on the phone]". - Wikipedia

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

What does this all mean? (At the very least, there are some very creative writers/designers at Bungie :) )

The use of all the time-related words definitely seems to be related to the concept of Vex (and others, like the Ishtar Collective's 227 copies) moving through the past, present and future timelines. "Mirative," An entry in the Aspect lore book seems to suggest that Praedyth, who may still be alive in the Vault of Glass, has had some sort of non-hallucinatory contact with some of the Ishtar Collective's copies, who are said to be "exploring" the various timelines.

Could this somehow play into what Ikora is doing with the Vex Gate in the Tower? Some have speculated that Ikora means for us to kill the Undying Mind throughout the various timelines, something that could happen during the "Final Assault" of the Vex Offensive.

Paul Tassi, who writes a Destiny column for Forbes, has speculated based on clues that Osiris may return as part of Season of the Dawn, possibly to "fix the timelines." I wonder if this means, fix the timelines of Destiny past (such as the return/rescue of certain characters dead in the "main" timeline, or if it could mean Osiris fixing the timelines that are messed up by Guardians wiping out the Undying Mind from various timelines (this is Tassi's view.)

I would even put forth that the meaning of Optative, concerning wishes or commands, seems to refer to the Ahkambra and Savathun's use of phrasing to convey wishes or commands.

    Thoughts??
