This week at Bungie, we're closing out 2019

It's been quite a year. While we continued to build Destiny 2, we began the journey to publish it as well. Since then, we've invited Guardians to master the Menagerie in Season of Opulence. We returned to the Moon to reunite with a familiar friend and confront new Nightmares. We repelled a Vex invasion and set off a chain of events that are currently being discovered by Guardians in Season of Dawn. With the passing of each Season, Destiny 2 has evolved.

On top of all that, we welcomed new Guardians to Destiny 2 and unified the community across all platforms with Cross Save. None of this would have been possible without you—thanks for sticking with us throughout the years. It's hard to believe we find ourselves in the fifth year of Destiny. We're celebrating the end of this amazing year with The Dawning, which kicked off this week.

Eva is back with her new Holiday Oven as well as new recipes and treats to deliver across the solar system. Perhaps you'll even want to gift some to an old nemesis. Be sure to grab some Dawning Bounties; they reward both Bright Dust and Double XP! Check out this introduction to The Dawning for more info on what to expect during the event.

    Dawn of Iron

    Image Linkimgur

Next week, Lord Saladin will hold the first Iron Banner of Season of Dawn.

    Iron Banner and Valor Bonus

    Start: 9 a.m. PDT on December 24

    End: 9 a.m. PDT on December 31

There will be an Armor 2.0 version of the Iron Truage set available this season. The Seasonal Pursuit to earn this armor will work similar to last Season but we have changed some of the steps and what weapons are required to gain progress.

In case you are just joining us, here is a refresher of how it all works.

    • There is a new Seasonal Pursuit which must be completed prior to being able to turn in tokens to purchase packages from Lord Saladin.

      • This pursuit is character based and rewards a Season of Dawn armor set.
      • Each step of the pursuit awards Iron Banner weapons or armor.
      • Most of the objectives within the pursuit track progress at any point during Season of Dawn, even if you have not yet acquired the pursuit.
    • Until the Seasonal Pursuit has been completed, all rewards will be obtained from completing matches and bounties.

      • All of the rewards will be weapons until the Seasonal Pursuit has been completed.
      • There will be seven bounties offering Pinnacle rewards (970 Power Max,) but only four are available per event.

If you were paying close attention to the Season of Dawn calendar you may have noticed an Iron Banner-themed Bow. That image will also show up as director dialogue in the game when Iron Banner starts next week. We were hoping to have the new Iron Banner Bow available this Season, but it had to be pushed to Season 10. Sorry about the delay, but we wanted to call it out to avoid any confusion.

We also made a change to the An Arsenal of Tricks bounty. The ability final blow requirements has been reduced by half.

Put on your most powerful gear and go control those zones!

    Breaking Dawn and Time

We launched Season of Dawn last week and we scrambled the fighters to shoot down some new bugs this week. Player Support has the details.

    This is their report.

    A Cold Front

Eva Levante is visiting the Tower once again and has brought The Dawning with her. All players can use her Holiday Oven to gather and combine materials to form gifts for vendors across the solar system. The Dawning began on December 17, 2019, and ends at the weekly reset on January 14, 2020.

For more information about The Dawning, including some handy hints on those recipes and materials, please view our support guide.

    Hotfix 2.7.0.1

This past Tuesday, Hotfix 2.7.0.1 was released to the world and resolved several issues found at the launch of Season of Dawn, including:

    • Destiny 2 PC settings would not save after quitting the game.
    • Dynamo mods granted more Super energy than expected.
    • Launching Forsaken Baron adventures would cause a Honeydew error.
    • Resonate Stems, Escalation Protocol chests, and other impacted rewards wouldn't be granted.

    Known Issues

    • Our Player Support Team has been monitoring player reports in our #Help Forum to find the latest issues impacting gameplay. Below is a summary of the latest reported issues.
    • The EDZ Obelisk can sometimes not be accessed.
    • The Green With Envy and Heart of the Dragon quests sometimes don't update while playing and completing Gambit or Crucible matches, respectively.
    • Players need to reach Mythic Infamy rank to progress the Gambit "Green With Envy" quest step, not Fabled.
    • Warlocks cannot Blink jump after switching weapons or canceling Sprint.
    • Players who accept or complete a quest from Osiris will need to back out of his menu entirely and interact with him again to continue picking up other quests. This must be repeated for every quest picked up.
    • A flashing notification icon appears constantly above Tess' head in the Tower.
    • For a full list of emergent issues in Destiny 2, players should view our Known Issues article. Players who observe other issues should report them to our #Help forum.

    Holiday Support

As the winter season begins and 2019 comes to a close, our Player Support Team will be around throughout the holidays to review player reports and investigate the latest known issues. If you encounter issues over the holidays, be sure to follow @BungieHelp on Twitter or monitor our feed on help.bungie.net.

Players encountering other issues are encouraged to report them to the #Help forum.

    Happy Dawning from Braytech.org

    Posted: 19 Dec 2019 06:56 AM PST

    Oh hello, Gaurdians.

It's me, Tom, your friendly neighbourhood third party app developer, but not the one that does crucible stats or inventory mangagement, the other one-- um

When I last posted about my hobby, this community was only 450,000 Guardians strong and now we've grown to more than a million, at least on Reddit, and I think that's wild.

I just wanted to stop by and promote my work, but I'm bad at promoting myself or being subtle. I haven't even made a hyperlink yet: Braytech.org

The short and sweet of it is that it's a web app that allows you to beautifully monitor your clannies, activities, triumphs, collections, quests, maps, ... It'll scream at you if your postmaster fills up...

I pride myself on a good mobile user experience, it has a dark mode, and some wonderful chums work to translate it into other game-supported localisations.

My latest feature update allows the user to customise views with different modules so they can see the information they want the way they want it. At least 10 people use it, where 10% like it.

Anyway, thanks for reading my dribble.

    ☃️

Amendment: the upvote count is greater than I can count to and that's baffling. Thank you for the awards, I will pass them along in kind!

Destiny named as one of Washington Post's Most Influential Games of the Decade

    Posted: 19 Dec 2019 05:20 PM PST

    https://www.washingtonpost.com/graphics/2019/video-games/influential-games-of-the-decade/

Found this gem in another subreddit for another game on this list also dear to my heart. This is a super cool article highlighting several games' impact on gaming for the last decade. It's section on Destiny is fun, and not afraid to tell it like it is.

When released, reviews of Destiny were harsh. Activities were boring, the loot was inadequate, the story was nonsense. Destiny's disastrous launch was an omen that these persistent "games as a service" titles will be really hard to not only make, but maintain. Destiny's early missteps were repeated not only by its competitors, but even by Bungie itself for Destiny 2.

It's a fun article and worth a read. Looking back on the last decade for the industry as a whole, would you agree Destiny has a place on a list like this?

After I saw it on the other sub, I came here to join in the discussion with my fellow Guardians and am surprised to not see it. I searched "Washington", "decade", and "influential" for the last 24 hours and go no results, so I trust this isn't a repost.

    Edited: words.

Lots of people would complain less about eververse, if she wasn't the only vendor each season with new ornament sets.

    Posted: 19 Dec 2019 05:40 AM PST

    let me explain.

i see alot of people complain about eververse and her pricings and bright dust economy. but in my humble opinion, it isnt about pricings or the silver/BD economy. it's about eververse being the only vendor each season with new (good looking) ornaments in a game where looking fabulous and doing space magic is one of the key selling points right ?

For example, if besides eververse, zavala has an themed ornament set tied to strikes/nightfalls you could earn, shaxx for the crucible and the drifter one for gambit(prime) i think alot of people would complain less about eververse itself.

Yes i can already hear you guys telling me, some of these vendors had ornaments in the past. but lets face it they all just looked bad compared to the eververse ones and almost no one was using them. What i'm trying to say is these vendors should give ornament sets tied to their activity, decently hard to earn AND be on par with the eververse ornaments.

Everyone in this game wants to look fabulous while shooting some bad guys, but if our only way is to spend ridiculious amounts of money or grind bright dust on 3 characters every week its logical everyone is going to freak out. So bungie give us more themed ornament sets we could earn throughout the season by playing strikes, crucible, gambit, raiding etc. (I know you are capable of doing it, look at the end of D1 where you gave us 4 or 5 amazing looking gear sets for old raids)

tl;dr what im trying to say is eververse is the only vendor each season with new and good looking armor everyone wants and since no other vendor has ornaments or armor which are on par with eververse, people will complain. If there was a way to earn different armor or ornament sets in other activities which are on par with how the eververse sets look, people would complain less, since eververse isnt the only way to earn/get amazing looking armor/ornaments.

p.s sorry for the broken english and layout, i dont usually post these kind of post, but wanted to give my 2c.

edit: i legit read all of the comments and the general consensus i can make of it, please correct me if i'm wrong. Most people agree eververse is just way to expensive, and this was kinda known already, yet some people are fine with eververse as it is. Also it seems most people would agree with me and would like to see other activities get ornaments or even brought back ornaments from past seasons. for some this would just be another thing to chase and for other to offset eververse, since she gets most of the (cool) stuff and other vendors nothing. It's fine if eververse has the coolest stuff, even the majority of it, but right now she has everthing and nothing is earnable in the game anymore, what happend to all the exclusive nightfall exotics for example. People would love to see these things return, for one to chase things once again and brag about it and second simply to show bungie is not putting everything behind eververse.

Edit2: just woke up and this thing blew up even more! I don't know how to tag the community managers but I hope they have seen this! Lots of people here are okay with eververse if only other vendors just got a little more attention, a couple of armors and cosmetics like back in the early days of destiny 2 would go a long way and people wouldn't be so salty about eververse as it is now. Cheers people for civil discussions in the comments!

Also thank you for the anonymous silver, kind stranger!

GUYS, GUYS! I figured out why Saint-14 is showing up during the Dawning specifically!

    Posted: 19 Dec 2019 12:30 PM PST

The 14th letter of the alphabet is N, so Saint-14 is Saint N. A common way to abbreviate names is to use the title followed by the first letter of the name, I.E. Mr. Brown becomes Mr. B. Saint N can easily be extrapolated to Saint Nicholas. The fact that he is either Russian or Greek further supports this theory. Saint-14 is Santa Claus confirmed!

I honestly think they're a blast. They're pretty short but there's shorter missions than those two.

There are too many “ranged Melees” to justify not being able to remap them away from the melee button itself.

    Posted: 19 Dec 2019 05:53 AM PST

It's still as annoying as ever to want to melee an enemy, only to waste your Smoke Bomb or Celestial Fire when it wasn't your intention to. I don't mind the fact they're all considered Melee abilities, but how is one supposed to differentiate whether they want to go for a close combat Melee or use their cooldown, beyond recognizing where the invisible melee range is?

With the announcement of the new DualShock 4 peripheral that adds buttons on the back, and all other platforms currently having extra buttons in some capacity (Xbox One Elite controller, keyboard for PC), we should definitely be able to map the ranged Melee ability to another button. Even those without these options should still be able to remap it to another button, like the Highlight Character button that feels like could be somewhere else or optional altogether.

I realize Bungie has a much higher list of priorities, but this would be a QoL change that would make tons of people happy/less frustrated, and possibly pave the way for all subclasses to have a ranged Melee in the future?

EDIT: a couple of people have pointed out that it's equally as annoying to intend to use your ranged Melee ability, only to do a normal Melee instead. The spirit of this post was also implying that as well. Overall, it's annoying to perform the action you weren't intending because there is no clear distance at which you're close or far enough away to perform which action, and tying them to the same button input makes it a gamble a lot of the time.

EDIT 2: I'm flattered that someone gave me Reddit Gold. Thank you whoever you are! May RNG be kind to you!

Hey Bungie, allow us to preview shaders on universal armor ornaments before we acquire them.

    Posted: 19 Dec 2019 12:04 PM PST

Bungie, these Timelost weapon bounties on the Obelisks are a great idea, can we have the same for Reckoning weapons?

    Posted: 19 Dec 2019 05:42 AM PST

I know they drop from Gambit Prime, but that's not really consistent and for those who don't even like to play gambit it would be better. All in all I feel the bounties make you put in enough work for a small grind to get the weapon with the rolls you're looking for.

Edit: Thanks for the gold and silver kind hearted Guardians!

The final 5 pieces of armor in the season pass have 60+ stat rolls base

    Posted: 19 Dec 2019 02:08 PM PST

The last set you get from the pass has 64 to 66 base stats meaning 76 to 78 masterworked. All of them have dawn mod slots and have great distribution iirc and its a free set of amazing gear so get it while you can.

    Edit: credit to u/nosut for the exact ranks 37, 44, 54, 57.

Obelisks set a new bar for how we can/should interact with vendors in Destiny. Can we get a vendors 2.0 update bringing this style of seasonal rank ups to all vendors? Imagine having motivation to actually spend time with the planetary vendors each season.

Edit: dang, thanks for the silver y'all!

If Saint 14 not showing up in the tower is intended then that's really frustrating

    Posted: 19 Dec 2019 08:45 PM PST

We save the boy, have a heart-to-heart with Osiris who then tells us to go talk to Saint 14 and help him since he'll need to get brought back up to speed.

It's sorta hype-crushing to be told "Go talk to the coolest dude that ever done did" only to see a floating signpost shotgun that reads "Be back next Tuesday"

Saint 14 is a fatherly figure to this Titan and just like my real father Saint appears to have gone missing while heading home with milk and a pack of smokes.

Random-rolled weapons in Collections could show all possible perks, the way some third-party sites show

    Posted: 19 Dec 2019 08:38 AM PST

We can't pull the weapons from Collections anyway, then why not show all perks at once? This way, we can know beforehand what perks to chase. I should not have to go to a website to search for this info.

    Solstice Armor Non Reclaimable Now

    Posted: 19 Dec 2019 07:03 AM PST

Couldn't they have warned us before doing this?? Last season I could reclaim it, now I can't. So now I can never get back the piece that I didnt reclaim. What was the point of making it "randomised gear" and locking it NOW when this whole time we could get a set back? I'm really upset by this. I didn't know it was going to happen, and now I've lost a favorite cosmetic.

Bungie, as a newer player the quest limit is by far my most frustrating part of the game. Made almost unbearable this season. Small QoL tweeks will help with new player retention.

    Posted: 18 Dec 2019 10:16 PM PST

I know most of you who have been playing destiny for some time likely don't have this problem, but I felt the need to voice my utter frustration with the quest limit from a new player perspective since most may walk away frustrated without ever coming to Reddit.

Since going free to play, there must be many like me who just recently started playing destiny 2 a couple months ago and were surprised but almost overwhelmed by the amount of content given.

Things to keep in mind reading this is when you start new to destiny is that you know NOTHING about the game, you are completely oblivious to there even being a quest limit or that quests and bounties take up the same space. So naturally you talk to NPCs around the tower and they give you a TON of quests right out of the gate. You also need to go to each planet starting with the EDZ to compete the beginning intro quests they each give.

Once you finish the intro quests, play some crucible and gambit and picked up those quests. Your quest limit is nearly FULL. Thats not including black armoury or any other game mode I barely had the chance to try yet (because then I would have NO quest space). It was around then when I learned about the limit and how it is tied to bounties and how those are your main source for the seasonal xp.

Now that left me in a very frustrating position. Keep in mind, I don't really know ANYTHING about these quests, which ones are short, long, important, forgettable, Some had long grinds that I had already contributed alot too that I didn't want to lose my progress in. I don't even know if I can get a quest back if I abandon it. Do I want to hold on to this quest, all I need to do is claim an item, or deliver a message, or kill a few bosses. Have I already completed a few stages of it? Or is it still at the beginning. I have no clue. Better not drop it in case I come across something or an activity I need to do.

So I turned most of my focus to try and get those quests completed because it was really hindering my experience and progression. I tried to do this while still playing things like iron banner and the Halloween event. Trying to juggle the 6-7 bounties I could hold so I wasnt wasting too much of my time. I made decent progress and knocked a few easy ones out by the end of November. I had just completed 950 gear score. It was still frustrating having to juggle, constant trips to the tower to pick up new dailies but I was managing, I was still pretty fresh but was making a little headway.

Then the quest problem happened all over again when I had decided to put some money into it and purchased forsaken, shadowkeep and season's pass. Even though I was now hesitant to take any new exotic quests, I felt I was back and square one, juggling new quests that I had no idea if they were short, or long with trying to complete the last seasons pass which I some how managed to do by the last day of the season.

The quest space problem has never been so bad then with this new season. More quest spaces taken up(expected) but now a ton of weekly bounties that take several hours of grind for each to complete. Being a little more knowledgeable now then before, I have ditched most of the quests that I know I will likely not ever touch until I complete more time sensitive things. Even after purging some quests, both the obelisk weeklies and the dawning baking weeklies I have total space for 3 spare bounties.

So as of now, I have played over 160 hrs since the end of October. I have put as much time to complete as many quests as I could to lower my number while also doing seasonal activities and grinding what little bounties I can hold. Even after all those hours and all the ones I've given up on, I am still only able to hold 3 bounties after the weekly obelisk and dawning. I am now dreading the weekly reset, as each week I will now have to grind just so I can hold gunsmith bounties WITH a few strike bounties.

I want to take part in the seasonal event, I want to make progress while playing the things I enjoy. I want to try different activities that I'm avoiding because 'quest space'. I want to not feel like I'm wasting my time doing every activity. As a newer player I feel like I'm being punished and held back by a quest system that clearly isn't designed to be picked up years after its original release. This one seemingly arbitrary quest limit has been a constant source of frustration me and now after spending over 160 hrs over a few months, it is STILL severely limiting my ability to enjoy the content I like and the content you spent countless hours designing. (I've ditched, all black armoury, reckoning, menagerie quests) It is forcing me to chose between having fun with very little progression or focus on progression and grind for hours before I can attempt to do a little both before the reset.

Bungie, please consider these quality of life suggestions to help your newer players stay

    • increase the quest limit
    • make some quests not count toward your total (particularly the ones you can't abandon or are tied to activities)
    • let us know how many stages a quest has/let us know what stage we are on
    • let us keep quest progression if we abandon one that is partially done

TL;DR A plea to Bungie from a new player to improve the quest system to help keep newer players from leaving due to frustration and wasted time. In summary, with over 160 hours under my belt over a few months, due to an outdated quest system not designed for new players, I am still only able to pick up 3 bounties each week after picking up the new seasonal weeklies. Since day one, it has been the most frustrating part of my Destiny 2 experience that somehow continues to haunt me. With seemingly small changes, Bungie could greatly help retain new players, help them enjoy the content they like, help them feel like their time is not being wasted, and prevent them from avoiding activities like black armoury or menagerie in an attempt to manage quest space.

    Thanks for listening

    C

Be careful after beating Sundial boss

    Posted: 19 Dec 2019 08:55 PM PST

We had just beaten the Sundial boss and I was jumping around (as guardians are wont to do) and when I was teleported, I mashed the jump button and got Sundial Smacked (tm) and died (forever curse the warlock air glide). Nothing unusual there, but none of the randos I was queued with rezed me, they just went to the reward lectern-thing.

When I self rezed, I was put back into the boss room, with no way to get back to the Sundial. subsequent suicides did not fix the issue. The timer ran out, and I was unable to collect my activity reward. This understandably pissed me off.

Perhaps something that Bungie should look into.

The new Titan exotic, Severance Enclosure...

    Posted: 19 Dec 2019 10:34 AM PST

Sucks. I'm sorry Bungie, I tried to love this badass looking chest piece, but it really just doesn't offer anything for Titans. In PVP, maybe this has some utility, but there are soooo many more exotics that are better and more consistent.

I can see that Bungie was going for an Assassin's Cowl-esque exotic here, but Severance Enclosure does not offer enough benefit to finishers in PVE like Assassin's Cowl.

In my opinion, the exotic should function like it does in PVP, in PVE. This would create some semblance of utility by allowing titans to take out groups of enemies with a single punch. Otherwise, this exotic needs a complete rework. I'm not sure what the intended use is, but whatever it is I don't think this exotic is meeting those expectations.

    Thoughts?
