    This Week At Bungie 7/30/2020

    Source: https://www.bungie.net/en/News/Article/49405

This week at Bungie, we shared our Prophecy.

Challenge. Mystery. The Nine. Deserts, cubes, and… whiteboards? Earlier this week, we did a deep dive on our newest Dungeon, featuring some behind the scenes developer commentary. Did you miss it? Well, let's fix that. Hit the jump for a recap!

These are some of our favorite streams to host. We've opened the minds of our designers to bridge the gap between Guardian and developer and get you into their headspace. If you're not in a place where you can watch a stream, we also released a companion blog article. What does it take to build out a dungeon? How do these ideas come about? And most importantly, how many lines did Jon To write to stay occupied when quarantine began?

I don't think I've ever put that many questions into a single intro, but it's fun to embrace the chaos, isn't it?

    Ironheads

Lord Saladin returns to host the second Iron Banner of the Season. Before we get too deep, if you haven't heard of the Iron Banner, let's give you a quick lesson. First, get your Power up. This activity offers Power-enabled combat in the Crucible, so that means your opponents might have an edge if they're five (or more) Power above you. Second, snag weekly bounties from Lord Saladin in the Tower before jumping in. You can earn some pinnacle power gear when completing their objectives! Third, capture the zones. The more zones you hold, the more points you get whenever you defeat an enemy. Fourth, stick with your teammates. While being a lone wolf can be fun, hunting with the pack can yield the best results.

During Saladin's last visit, two Legendary weapons made their return with random rolls in tow. The Fool's Remedy Sidearm and Forward Path Auto Rifle pack a pretty good punch in the Crucible. I've personally gotten around 400 Guardian defeats with my trusty sidearm; maybe you'll find a good roll that fits your playstyle.

    Image Linkimgur

And if you're searching for some enhanced armor mods, or armor pieces with high stat rolls, now's a great time to jump in for some PvP action. These rewards can drop simply from playing matches, or turning in tokens to Saladin between matches.

Iron Banner will be available from 10 AM on August 4 through 10 AM on August 11.

    Hotfix Preview

Next Tuesday, we'll have a fresh hotfix to address some issues that were introduced in Destiny 2 Update 2.9.1. While Destiny Player Support will have a run-through of patch times below, we have a quick preview of patch notes for you.

    Nightfall: The Ordeal

    • Fixed an issue where the Ordeal version of Lake of Shadows was inaccessible at tiers above Adept for players who do not own Forsaken.
    • Fixed an issue where the Festering Core Master Nightfall was listed as 1080 Power in the Director, but was actually 750 Power.

      • Guardians should expect a much greater challenge when engaging with this strike.

    Raids

    • Leviathan rewards of XP, Glimmer, and chances towards Exotic Engrams or Bright Engrams are now back on a weekly lockout.

      • Note: Weapons and armor are not affected by the weekly lockout, and can be earned multiple times a week.

    Investment

    • Fixed an issue where some players could not acquire the "Means to an End" quest from the Prismatic Recaster.

    Armor

    • Fixed an issue where Ruinous Effigy could trigger the heal from the Stronghold Titan Exotic armor while blocking with the carry object.
    • Fixed an issue where Umbral stat Focused engrams could provide less than 10 in the selected stat.

We'll have a few more patch notes in the article next week, but this is a short and sweet update to tackle a few minor issues found over the last few weeks.

    Maintaining Course

    Image Linkimgur

I don't think I know many people in the Destiny community who have as much game-related information in their heads as the members of Destiny Player Support. Not only are they keeping track of upcoming fixes and patch timetables, but they're also an encyclopedia of general information. It can range from the location of a random Dreg to the angle at which skip grenades bounce when hitting a wall.

    This is their report.

    HOTFIX 2.9.1.2

    KNOWN ISSUES

While we continue investigating various known issues, here is a list of the latest issues that were reported to us in our #Help Forum:

    • Players who acquire Calcified Light without the Pendulum step of the Growth quest in their inventory will be blocked from completing the quest.
    • Picking up a Throwing Hammer while holding a Sword will not recharge Titan's melee ability when running Code of the Devastator.
    • Enemies in the Hexahedron encounter of the Prophecy Dungeon can stop spawning.
    • Previously uncensored nicknames on Steam are now being censored.
    • The Seasons tab of the Director will flash to indicate an available reward when none are there.

Hunting for a movie fitting of receiving the MOTW title can sometimes be a challenge. Every so often, we get crazy footage of raid strategies that end up making mincemeat of cosmic gods. Other weeks, the clear winner is a short film recorded entirely in-game. This week, we've got a little bit of PvP hotness from a crafty Hunter, a fun idea for custom games to evoke some nostalgic feels, and an amazing raid save.

While Moments of Triumph is in full swing, we still have some summer fun on the way. Solstice of Heroes begins in under two weeks! Hard to believe that it'll be August in less than two days.

Next week, we have Iron Banner to play on Tuesday, and some Solstice details to dive through in the Thursday TWAB. Now it's time to get started on my solo flawless Prophecy completion. Cozmo will give you an update next week on whether I succeeded, or failed in spectacular fashion. Until then, we'll see you starside.

Patrol event Champion spawns are preventing people from getting Platinum nightfall rewards. That is not how Ordeal Strike rewards should work.

    Posted: 30 Jul 2020 08:26 AM PDT

⁹When loading into a 1020 Nightfall just now, I looked at the bottom left of my screen just to check on my ammo. Above that I happened to see 'A champion has appeared!', from the occasionally spawning Blade or Shield Taken Disruptors miniboss events, behind me in The Rig patrol area. I thought nothing of it at the time.

Then I went through the strike, clearing all champions as per usual. I got gold rewards at the end. This must be the 5th or 6th time this has happened this week so far, and I am absolutely certain I have missed no champions any time I have received gold rewards. So I've been trying to work out why this is the case.

All the champion spawns that I have counted as part of the savathun's song 1020 NF strike are:

1 Barrier Knight in the Solarium opening area.

1 Barrier Knight + 1 Unstoppable Ogre in the doors section just after breaking the hive door seals.

1 Barrier Knight at the first crystal breaking room.

1 Barrier Knight in the Large Open room, where 2 large ogres spawn.

2 Barrier Knights just before where you pick up the Void Orb.

1 Barrier Knignt just after where you pick up the Void orb.

2 Unstoppable Ogres as you carry the orb to near where the pair of immune shriekers are.

1 Barrier Knight after the 2nd window of damage to the boss, in the right side of the final area.

1 Unstoppable Ogre after the 4th window of damage to the boss, in the left side of the final area.

I think that's all the champions which spawn, and I absolutely killed all of them. So what champion could I have possibly missed? Well it seems like this champion spawn, which isn't even part of the strike is messing things up.

To only now realise that in order to get Platinum rewards I have to go back and beat a couple of minibosses in the middle of the strike...that, in my opinion, is not right. That is not how this strike system should work. These additional champions should not be counted, this is daft Bungie. Please consider changing something so that we do not have to backtrack through The Rig on Titan in order to get the rewards we deserve to receive.

This really frustrates me as hand cannons are my favorite weapon type but seriously, why would I ever use a hand cannon when I could use an auto rifle. The ttk is nearly the same except autos are 10x easier to use. With a hand cannon one missed shot equals death but with autos you can miss a few and be good. Also hand cannons have terrible range

NO MEME: The queenbreaker is legitimately one of the best precision weapons to use in PvE for damage, and is better than whisper with catalyst in many scenarios. (Numbers and TL;DR included)

    Posted: 30 Jul 2020 10:16 AM PDT

A few times during my weekly raid LFG's, I'd heard queenbreaker was a good boss DPS option on the level of other big bois like xeno and whisper since the linear fusion buff back in dawn. I ignored them at first because I just considered it a PvP weapon, as none of it's perks really did anything for PvE and because of that period where the aim assist was accidentally DOUBLED. The only time I had ever tried it was on a teaching LFG for GoS where someone with line in the sand convinced four goobers with less damage than the divinity guy to use it. Yeah it was a FOUR PHASE, so I wasn't too keen on testing this. (Though I don't think this is due to queenbreaker, it was almost a three phase, there were almost no relay defender mods across the team and my teammates just kinda sucked...) But I love the fallen guns, so I went to the tribute hall and got to testing:

All these numbers were used with no buffs or debuffs and I used double reserve and reload mods. I'm comparing queenbreaker to whisper, as whisper with catalyst has the highest ranged damage numbers. I used marksman sights for my calculations, combat sights are ass. Before I start, this is my first time doing my own math for damage, I usually rely on guys like Datto and Ehroar. I tested on the ogre in the tribute hall and used damage per shot times magizine size divided by rough time to shoot off a mag and reload for DPS. If there are any problems with my numbers, let me know.

    Total damage:

Whisper hits 23,847 per crit. Queenbreaker hits 24,510, so queenbreaker has slightly better damage. Whisper can hold a max of 23 shots, resulting in a total damage output of 548,481. Queenbreaker can hold a max of 21 shots, resulting in a max of 514,710. So while very close to each other, qb has more damage per shot and whisper has more total damage due to the slightly higher reserves. So while it's close, whisper is a little better.

    DPS

Whisper's magazine of three multiplied by it's damage of 23,847 divided by the about 3 seconds (I got rough numbers for time to shoot and reload, but it's not close enough to matter for what I test. Just know these numbers aren't exact) seconds it takes to fire all shots, as it auto reloads when you hit all crits works out to 23,847 DPS. Queenbreaker's magazine of 5 times it's damage of 24,510 divided by 7 is 17507 DPS. Yikes.

That's pretty rough. How is it any good?

The thing about those numbers is they were SIMULATED. People with whisper catalyst should be doing slightly more damage than a titan with war rig and xeno on the sanctified mind, but every week I run it, the hunters using nighthawk and a masterworked whisper always have less damage than my xeno. Why? Because xeno is easy to use. It's full auto and you don't need to hit crits for good damage, where with whisper. Just like xeno, queenbreaker makes it super easy to land shots: The charge time, scope, aim assist and meter showing exactly when you'll fire makes it super easy to land crit after crit, while whisper makes you fire three shots as fast as you can in order to prevent a reload. But you're only human: what happens if you miss with either weapon? With queenbreaker, you just lose a shot. Whisper? You need to reload and re-proc whispered breathing, which KILLS your DPS. Take whisper's magazine of three multiplied by it's damage of 23,847, but this time divide it by 6.5 seconds instead of the usual three to account for reloading and re-procing whispered breathing. (BTW, you may be thinking "I won't miss every time, so you can't divide by 6.5 for the entire damage phase!" While this is partially true, if you mess up with whisper, the damage phase is often over before you can noticeably recover anyway.) This gives us a DPS of 11,006, which is way less than queenbreaker's consistent 16,340. So if you miss a shot, your DPS with whisper plummets. But even if you hit all your shots with whisper, there are still problems with it that you don't see with queenbreaker:

    Practical usage in the endgame:

Let's take a look at raids, dungeons and other pieces of endgame content where you need to use a precision weapon and would experience issue with whisper and queenbreaker might be the better pick:

Leviathan, Calus: when moving from plate to plate, you have to re-proc whispered breathing each time, making you lose out on two seconds of damage with whisper. This makes the DPS formula 3x23,847/5, which gives 14,308 DPS. This is unavoidably less than queenbreaker, and this is the best possible damage if you don't one-plate. This number assumes you miss no shots, which can be hard on Calus, as he wiggles around and doubles over during damage, not to mention the boop attack. You can honestly use either TBH, Calus is a joke with either, especially on normal.

Scourge of the past, Insurrection Prime: While CAP is active, you'll need to move to a spot, proc whispered breathing, and move again and re-proc it unless you get lucky, losing out on four seconds of potential damage. This also assumes you don't get screwed over when he suddenly jerks upwards, or the phase changes before you can fire off two shots to reload, causing you to either shoot off two more shots with reduced damage and tether your teammates, or force yourself to reload and kill your own damage. Needless to say, results may very with whisper on insurrection prime, and I'd reccomend queenbreaker.

Crown of Sorrow: Big Galhran: On big galhran, whisper is a popular choice because of his bit crit and swords being difficult. (Acrius is very good on him if your entire team has the catalyst though) However, during the hand phases, you need to scope out of whisper to shoot them, making you re-proc whispered breathing to contiue effective damage. There are three hand phases, making you lose out on 6 whole seconds of damage, and this doesn't include swapping to whisper from your primary/special you used to shoot the hands, probably making it 7 and being flinched by thrall. Queenbreaker not only lets you shoot during those six seconds, but also has quickdraw to let you have very little downtime swapping between weapons for damage and hands. I highly recommend using queenbreaker over whisper for big Galhran.

Garden of Salvation: The consecrated mind

Most of your consecrated mind damage happens at the beginning, right after you pop his eyes, as he's easiest to hit him and you can stand next to the relay for a massive relay defender buff. With queenbreaker, you can use quickraw to quickly pull it out ( ͡° ͜Ê– ͡°) and get to damage before moving forward to prevent being trapped. With whisper, you need to lose two seconds on damage as well as relay defender, and you risk missing shots as the boss quickly moves away and you need to move forward so you don't get cut off. Again, use queenbreaker over whisper!

Garden of Salvation: the sanctified mind

Best case scenario with whisper: you're not on tether team and are able to damage the boss as soon as damage starts by being scoped in while tether team starts damage. You hit every shot and have good damage. This is possible, but it's extremely unlikely to hit the boss while he's on the ground, and tether team has to proc whispered breathing anyway. Because the damage window is so short, missing one shot with whisper basically means you won't be able to use it again, where queenbreaker lets you line up the shot while it's charging, and you can shoot without the risk of your DPS tanking. Queenbreaker is a much safer option than whisper, which is very much a risky make-or-break. (That was an awful pun)

REMEMBER FOR ALL OF THESE: NEEDING TO PROC OR RE-PROC WHISPERED BREATHING MEANS QUEENBREAKER WOULD HAVE HIGHER DPS!

    Hey, what about D.A.R.C.I.?

I wanted to quickly mention another similar weapon, the darci, as it fits into the "Long range crit basedweapon for boss damage" group. Is it better than queenbreaker at anything? Let's see: it does 12,968 damage per shot times 28 shots with reserves for 363104 total damage. Yeesh. For context, queenbreaker was 514,710 and whisper was even higher. 12,968 damage per shot times a magizine of seven divided by 6 seconds to shoot all shots and reload gives us 15129 DPS, and because of the awful reload/needing to re-ADS to get the perk, the pitiful total damage and this gun being very hard to control... (Landing seven crits at max ROF with Darci is next to impossible) your results will most likely be worse than this. So no, D.A.R.C.I. is not meta.

So is queenbreaker the best option for damage?

Well... no. Obviously use swords like dark drinker 2.0 wherever you can, but for the bosses where I discussed queenbreaker vs whisper there are other options. Actium war rig with xenophage are incredible, and I'd use them over queenbreaker on a titan any day of the week. One thousand voices, line in the sand/whitherhoard, anarchy and distant tumulis... Queenbreaker and whisper are by no means the only two options. But, queenbreaker is definitely a valid choice that I recommend you try.

Dawnblade Attunement of Flame rework concept

    Posted: 30 Jul 2020 08:41 AM PDT

Since the super's nerf and rework of top tree Dawnblade, Attunement of Flame didn't really see much love from either players nor developers. My thinking process for this rework idea was that if top tree is PvP focused, and center tree PvE focused, bottom tree could be a flexible attunement for both PvP and PvE while still retaining its Super-Focused build

Igniting touch -> Igniting slash: Hold your melee key to swing your sword and send forth a mid-range weak Daybreak slash (15% less damage than a normal melee, explodes on contact and burns targets)

Fated for the flame: Daybreak projectiles seek targets as they travel and, upon impact, launch a streak of deadly flames (Now would affect Igniting slash Dawnblade projectiles too. Could also grant Shield Piercing to both the super and melee ability)

Everlasting fire: Hitting an enemy with Daybreak or Igniting slash grants a small amount of super energy (The amount of super gained would be a little smaller, but now would require hits instead of kills and enable for a small super engine of sorts. It would also extend the super's duration against bosses/resilient guardians)

Phoenix Dive: Quickly descend from mid-air and regenerate health. Damage is instead absorbed as super and ability energy. When used while in Daybreak it creates an explosion on impact and grants diminishing returns of super energy back. (Regeneration is no longer stopped when taking damage. Animation time would be sped up so it's more responsive to input)

I'd like to hear your thoughts and reasoning to better come up with the ideal rework for Attunement of Flame in the way that has its own role

Bungo pls give Warlocks some short tunics

    Posted: 30 Jul 2020 09:54 AM PDT

I know throwing random demands out is next to pointless, but I would love to see Warlocks get some smaller tunics. We have dresses, robes, armored raiments, so on, but no tunics. The closest thing we really have is the Wings of Sacred Dawn exotic and even then it's of course an exotic and a niche one at that. Back in Destiny 1 we spawned off with the most gorgeous little tunic when we first started and we've never gotten anything akin to that since. A lot of people want armor as well, so if we get one, it would be amazing to get the other too.

Both myself and my mum have made these shoes. I told her how I wanted them designed, and she did the artwork across them. I did the handwriting myself, however, it is her amazing painting that makes these shoes fantastic!

    Hope you guys like!

    Optimized Bounties For 2020/07/30

    Posted: 30 Jul 2020 11:30 AM PDT

Deer trivia: Of all the deer legally killed during Minnesota's normal hunting season, about 70% of them are killed in the first week.

Step 1 - Organize a viewing of "The Purge" for your local deer population. Teach them to survive.

Step 2 - Pick up the following Dailies. Weeklies can be found here.

    Tower Bounties:

    • Zavala Daily – From Downtown – 2 Super Multikills
    • Zavala Daily – The Harder They Fall – Kill 10 Challenging Enemies in Strikes
    • Zavala Daily – Vanguardian – Kill 50 Enemies in Strikes
    • Ada-1 Daily – Rasmussen Tribute – Power Weapon Kills
    • Ada-1 Daily – Forge Super Kills – 10 Super Kills During a Forge
    • Ada-1 Daily – Lost Forge Power Kills – 10 Power Weapon Kills in a Forge
    • Prismatic Recaster Daily – Wayfaring Spelunker – Clear 1 Lost Sector

    Planetaries

    • Devrim Kay – The Big Guns – 3 Power Weapon Multikills in the EDZ
    • Devrim Kay – Front Life Defense – Kill 30 Cabal in the EDZ
    • Devrim Kay – Exterminator – Kill 30 Fallen in the EDZ
    • Sloane – Clean the Deck – Kill 50 Enemies on Titan
    • Sloane – Traveler's Chosen – 20 Super Kills on Titan
    • Sloane – Make Rain – Create 10 Orbs of Light on Titan

Step 3 - Follow these steps:

    1. Fly to the EDZ, grab Devrim's bounties, then clear any Fallen Lost Sector. When done, clear the Volundr Forge. (15 minutes)

    2. Fly to Titan, grab Sloane's bounties, then run a 1020 Ordeal. (15 minutes) A 750 Ordeal might work, but I'm not 100% certain if it will have enough challenging enemies. Some strikes don't. LOOKING AT YOU, EXODUS CRASH.

    Total Non-Elemental Non-Weapon-Specific Bounties Cleared:

    • 13 Dailies
    • "For the Armory" Weekly
    • Probably "Rig Calibration" Weekly

    Total Time: 30 minutes

    Bounties Per Minute: .4333

    Rewards:

    • 78,000 XP (unmodified)
    • 12,000 XP per Weekly (unmodified)
    • 15 Vanguard Tokens, 3/8 Vanguard Weekly Challenge
    • 3 Modulus Reports
    • 25 Altered Element
    • 15 Dusklight Shards
    • 15 Alkane Dust

    Season Ranks Per Hour: 1.56

    Extra Weapon/Elemental Specific Bounties:

    • Zavala: Arc Kills in Strikes
    • Banshee: Bow, Pulse Rifle, Linear Fusion Rifle, Void Weapon Kills
    • Prismatic Recaster Daily: Void Weapon, Sidearm Kills
    • Put 'em together: Run a Void and Arc weapon from the above lists during the Ordeal. I'd recommend not a Void LFR, since you need 50 Void Weapon Kills for the Prismatic Daily. So Void Pulse/Arc Bow, or vice-versa. Run the remaining weapons in the Forge.
    • Io is easy with Solar.
    • Mars is easy with Void.
    • Nessus is easy, but a little time consuming (Lost Sectors and Public Events).
