Focused Feedback: State of the Crucible

    Posted: 06 Jan 2020 04:42 AM PST

    Hello Guardians,

Focused Feedback is where we take the week to focus on a 'Hot Topic' discussed extensively around the Tower.

We do this in order to consolidate Feedback, to get out all your ideas and issues surrounding the topic in one place for discussion and a source of feedback to the Vanguard.

This Thread will be active until next week when a new topic is chosen for discussion

Whilst Focused Feedback is active, ALL posts regarding 'State of the Crucible' following its posting will be removed and re-directed to this thread. Exceptions to this rule are as follows: New information / developments, Guides and general questions

Please add all of your feedback on the current "state of the crucible" to this thread. This includes :

    • Give your general feedback on matchmaking. Specify which platform you play on, what geographic region you are in, and what specific modes you are talking about (for example matchmaking works differently for classic mix and other playlists and matchmaking times may differ depending on your platform)
    • How important to you are the following factors - a more "fair" match against players close to your own skill level, good quality connection during the game, quicker matchmaking to start the game faster? Does this depend on the game mode you are playing (quick play vs competitive?) In which of these areas do you feel current matchmaking does the best or worst? Again, specify your platform and geographic region.
    • How long are you willing to wait in matchmaking for a "good" match? - Make your answer the time between when you start searching for a match and when you can start actually playing. Consider the potential tradeoff between the quality of opponents that can be found (skill, connection, geographic locaiton, etc...) and the amount of time it takes to start the match.
    • Should skill based matchmaking be less prominent on console (where match loading times are much longer) than on PC where they are much shorter? Especially in non-competitive modes?
    • Available game modes - what do you like and what don't you like? Why?
    • Crucible weapon balance - what feels too strong in the crucible? What feels too weak? Please explain your reasons.
    • Gun mods and seasonal artifact mods - What are your thoughts on current gun mods and seasonal artifact mods in the crucible? Whats too strong or too weak?
    • Crucible subclass balance - what feels too strong in the cruccible? What feels too weak? Please explain your reasons.
    • Crucible exotic balance - what feels too strong in the crucible? What feels too weak? Please explain your reasons.
    • Maps - What are your favorite maps to play on? What are your least favorite maps? What are your reasons for this? Does it differ by game mode?
    • Competitive - Do you have any specific feedback about the competitive crucible game modes? Specify if you usually play in the normal or freelance playlist.
    • Elimination - What is your feedback on the elimination playlist?
    • Iron banner - What is your feedback on the iron banner? Include feedback on this season's iron banner quest here also. Should the quest be account wide or character specific? Should we have to do this quest every single season? Should heavy weapon kills be a part of it like this season?
    • Join in progress - Add your feedback here about joining in progress.
    • Start matches with less than full teams - Should matches be able to start with less than a full team on both sides (for example - 5 players per side instead of 6 in quick play), in order to make matchmaking quicker? Remember to specify your platform as game loading times seem to be longer on console versus PC.
    • Bugs - What bugs or glitches have you encountered when playing in the crucible?
    • Quests & Bounties - Give your feedback on crucible quests and bounties.
    • Rewards - What are your thoughts on obtainable rewards from PVP modes? How should these be changed or improved? Does playing crucible matches enable you to level up your season pass at a reasonable rate or does the amount of experience from crucible need to be changed?
    • Pinnacle/ritual weapons - What are your thoughts on pinnacle/ritual weapons, and the methods of obtaining them?
    • Crucible dev team communication - Do you feel like Bungie communicates enough with the player base enough concerning the crucible? If not, what types of additional interactions or communication would you like to see and with what frequency?
    • Would you like to have the option to cross-platform play in pvp - For example, should this be something players can opt into for all modes? Enabled for everyone in quickplay but disabled in competitive? Some other option?
    • Other crucible changes or improvements - What other changes or improvements to the crucible would you like to see and why?

Remember, do not witch hunt or accuse specific players of cheating in this thread. Report cheaters to bungie directly on their website.

Any and all Feedback on the topic is welcome.

Regular Sub rules apply so please try to keep the conversation on the topic of the thread and keep it civil between contrasting ideas

A Wiki page - Focused Feedback - has also been created for the Sub as an archive for these topics going forward so they can be looked at by whoever may be interested or just a way to look through previous hot topics of the sub as time goes on.

2019 Best of /r/DestinyTheGame Awards - Nominations and Voting

    Posted: 06 Jan 2020 10:35 AM PST

    Hello Guardians!

Whether we wanted it or not, we've stepped into the year 2020. As such, tradition dictates that we celebrate the best of what made our community thrive in 2019.

Many of you have been around for our end of year awards before, while there are also a lot of newcomers since Destiny 2 hit Steam and went freemium. For both groups, there will be a lot of new things in the 2019 edition of the awards.

For one, we are not giving away Gold as part of the awards. Why? Because we missed the deadline with the admins. That's on me.

To apologize for this oversight, I have decided, in my capacity as Awards Potentate of Vanguard, to go mostly full meme with the awards categories this year. In the past, we've been limited by our prize pool. No longer! We have a bunch of new categories to make things very fun for you.

    Here's how this goes:

    1. Review the categories.
    2. Find a post or comment which meets the requirements of a category.
    3. Check to make sure said post or comment has not already been nominated for that category. If they have already, upvote the comment. If not, move to step 4.
    4. Reply to the category's nomination thread with a link to the post or comment in question.
    5. Vote for other nominees you think deserve recognition.
    6. Don't make a top level comment. It will be removed.

    And now for the categories

Media Post of the Year (Serious)

Was it media? Was it serious? Was it outstanding? Note: The award goes to the creator of the media, not the poster.

Media Post of the Year (Funny)

Was it media? Was it not serious? Was it outstanding? Note: The award goes to the creator of the media, not the poster.

    Lore Post of the Year

Awarded to the poster which provided the best post about the lore of Destiny in 2019.

    Post of the Year

The Granddaddy of the All. The overall most excellent post on /r/DestinyTheGame in 2019.

Suggestion of the Year broken out into subcategories this year because y'all have a lot of suggestions.

    Best General Suggestion

    Best Guns & Armor Suggestion

    Best Perks & Mods Suggestion

    Best Subclass Related Suggestion

    Best User Experience Suggestion

    Best PVE Suggestion

    Best PVP Suggestion

Best Post Nobody Saw Because Everybody Upvoted Suggestions Instead

Exactly what it sounds like. Posts must have fewer than 10 points to be considered.

Best "I'm super busy but got Recluse anyway" Story

Yes, we went full meme on this one.

    Best Joke

I'm not defining best. Make of that what you wish.

    Worst Joke

Did it elicit a groan? Was the "budum tiss" implied?

    Most Adorable Kinderguardian

If you read a post or comment and your inner monologue went "Oh my sweet summer child..." immediately, this is the category for that.

    SGA of the Year

The post that provided the superest goodest advice in 2019

    The Mistakes Were Made Award

Maybe it's somebody crashing their Sparrow and causing a massive explosion. Maybe it's somebody ruining a deathless raid clear by stepping in front of an ally's rocket on the final encounter. Mistakes were made.

The megamanexe4 Special Services to the Subreddit Award

Awarded to the user who went above and beyond to help /r/DestinyTheGame in 2019. Note: Moderators are not eligible for the award, unless they were not moderators at the time of the event in question.

The Craysh Memorial Award (previously Guide of the Year)

For those of you who never got to know Craysh, he was a fantastic member of the community who spent hours and hours scouring the internet for every known bit of information on upcoming Destiny content. His Taken King pre-release info guides were so good that we gave him wiki permissions on the subreddit to build out entire pages with known info. He tragically passed away a few years ago and we decided as a moderator team to rename our Guide of the Year Award in his memory. Rest in peace, Guardian.

Nominations and voting will proceed until January 21st, after which the thread will be locked and the mods will tabulate the results. The post is in contest mode to hide vote counts.

The Redrix's Claymore and Breakneck nerfs are still unwarranted

    Posted: 06 Jan 2020 02:58 PM PST

For everyone who doesn't know, when Shadowkeep dropped there was an update which nerfed several damage focused perks to match their PvP values in PvE. Currently the only weapons that were spared from this are Huckleberry, 21% Delirium and Monte Carlo.

But the weapons in the title suffered an even worse nerf. Their perks focused on increasing Rate of Fire under certain circumstances. Desperado increases Redrix to 540RPM upon reloading while Outlaw is active and Onslaught increased Breakneck's RoF based on Rampage stacks to 600RPM at 1x and 720RPM at 3x.

Neither of these weapons saw significant use coming down to the end of Y2 in either PvP or PvE as they were already outclassed by other weapons yet the increase to their RoF caused a change in damage to match the respective fire rate which effectively made them worthless in PvE because other weapons with the same RoF could simply outperform them if they had any sort of damage perk. Breakneck is outclassed by any 720RPM auto rifle with Rampage which also applies to Redrix.

These nerfs made zero sense and completely go against the effort to acquire them and the philosophy to align PvE and PvP numbers as Breakneck was nerfed twice.

Edit: Redrix is still the same in PvP

Once we complete an armor collection, it should become an ornament set

    Posted: 06 Jan 2020 06:44 AM PST

When Armor 2.0 was first announced, this was how I first thought it would work.

Very disappointed when it turned out to only be for eververse items.

For the love of God, please, now that the holidays are over Bungie, make Eververse stop blinking on the map and in the Tower!

    Posted: 06 Jan 2020 04:50 AM PST

We get it, you want us to buy silver and all the newest content Eververse has to offer, got it. This has been like 3 or so weeks now. Now that you're back to work, can we please stop it already? Please? It's annoying the hell out of some of us.

Hey Bungie, can you replace the Eververse Store tab with a Postmaster tab?

    Posted: 06 Jan 2020 04:02 PM PST

Look, I like the ability to spend my money on things that I should be able to get dropped in game just like every one of you out there (/s), but I think it would be really helpful if we could have access to our postmaster while we're away from the tower. I'm sure I'm not the only one that has lost out on some loot because of all the rare-quality blue engrams we get from a given activity.

The exotic quest for Bastion has you completing 10 spider bounties.

Not sure if Wanted Bounties will count, if not, it's 4 daily bounties per day. Bastion is out on the 28th of January.

    Entirely True Last City Facts

    Posted: 06 Jan 2020 06:25 AM PST

The average citizen of the last city makes around 15,000 glimmer a year. The highest paying profession is builder, with the most skilled earning over 500,000 a year, far outstripping even the most well paid CEO.

Due to the sheer number of different cultures in a single spot, fights are often inevitable due to clashing ideologies. Guardians are often requested to simply walk the streets and visit bars and restaurants, as even the sight of one will act as a deterrent for weeks.

The restaurants in the last city rely heavily on hunters who prowl outside the city walls, bringing back meats and fish. Agriculture exists to a degree, but for some reason it is very difficult to grow a multitude of crops in the area surrounding the last city. Some think it is due to the massive amount of ether that leaked into the soil following the battle of Twilight Gap.

Pigeons were a very common sight in the last city, but as soon as people figured out they were edible their numbers began to dwindle. The pigeons seen lately are slightly fatter than usual, making a better meal.

The Traveler blocks the sun from hitting the area directly underneath it for 340 days of the year, leaving the residents who live there in near perpetual gloom. However, being in such close proximity to the Traveler has had a curious side effect on these people, allowing them to see in far greater detail than the average human, and even see perfectly in the dark. These humans were used to great effect during the red war in night time combat, and would rack up kill counts rivaling some Guardians.

The Cryptarchs have an office in the last city separate from the Tower. Here, new cryptarchs are trained and sent out into the wilds to join small villages and outposts. The ones who make it to these places often become incredibly valuable members there, allowing the people access to a greater assortment of weapons and armour to eventually make their way to the City. Once they arrive, most people who had a cryptarch are so well equipped they immediately join the City Guard as valued soldiers.

The foundries each have an office and factory in the last city. Suros has a modest, simple factory. Hakke is as bare bones as can be imagined, and omolon is incredibly clean, white and polished. Tex Mechanica is nothing more than a 15 foot square room with a single workbench, making hand made weapons and armour. To this day, no-one knows the identity of the one who makes these pristine weapons.

On occasion, fallen make it into the last city. When this happens, the residents of the city, who have frankly had enough of the fallen, take up arms immediately. One particular night, Cayde arrived just a second too late, as the final fallen of a 100 strong raiding party was being beaten to death by an old woman brandishing nothing but a rolling pin and angry memories as the crowd watched. He bought her dinner and a stiff drink.

Exos of the last city are rare but often valued. Not in building or war, but as childminders. They are paid handsomely for their work, and most have been dealing with children for hundreds of years, mastering their care like a fine art. To this day, no child has ever been injured while under the care of an Exo, and most go on to be extremely well balanced, useful members of society, eventually looking after the children of those they once cared for.

The orphanages of the last city are one of the most well-funded places you can find. This was not always the case, until Zavala noticed a child crying in the street. When asked what was wrong, they child claimed they had not eaten in 4 days. Zavala scooped them up, took them home, and upon seeing the dilapidated building he was living in, decided to fund all orphanages with the money he had made. Ikora also paid her Crucible winnings to the cause, immediately tripling the fund. This helped to make the city orphanages a kinder, nicer place to live for the city's children.

It is highly unwise to eat the "beef" in the last city.

It is highly unwise to pass up the ramen in the last city.

Titans are the most beloved class seen on the city streets. Saint-14 left a lasting impression on the city psyche, and Titans are viewed as the example a Guardian should strive towards. Despite Hunters ruining Guardian reputations by constantly falling out of bars singing at 3am, Titans are not lumbered into the same camp as them. Warlocks are viewed as an oddity, but the children love to ask them to perform magic. No warlock has said no.

    Make your voices heard.

    Posted: 06 Jan 2020 02:14 AM PST

At this point complaints are mostly an echo of what has and is being said, some people say Destiny is in a bad place, some people say it's fine, it's a constant back and forth that doesn't really benefit anyone.

Bungie has a survey out at the moment, this is data they look at, as a data professional myself you wouldn't put something out there like that if you had no intention of looking at it, it's just stupid putting effort into it for show.

Fill that in, make your voice heard, this whole discussion is good to get it out there and vent but it's not data they can use for much.

    http://click.info.bungie.net/?qs=8220a64b0b33712156e419f661515b2397ef054cc6561d9c059bb478461d1415d9b50662fe21df29090458114105cea75653bf8700f1341f

Edit: Full disclosure this was not sent to me - it was circulated in my clan discord and I really liked it as a means to "talk to bungie directly" - so I cannot speak for any trigger mechanics on the email itself.

Personally, I'm a D1 veteran, like most I skipped CoO and Warmind, got back to hardcore raiding in Forsaken and SK launch, and barely played Dawn. This is just to illustrate that it is intended for new players, or people that have a certain amount of playtime during the dawning, or people that have spent money in eververse.

If you received this email/survey request directly let me know which group of players you consider yourself to be in, so it provides a bit more context.

Edit 2: This is not about who is right and who is wrong, please keep it civil, it's ok to have different opinions of the game and feel differently about it. Let's keep the discussion clean :)

Edit 3: inbox says ouch, and many thanks for the silver stranger ❤️

How to Train Your Kinderguardian [Comic]

We have a Gunsmith. We need an Armorsmith or Quartermaster to fix Armor 2.0

    Posted: 06 Jan 2020 07:12 AM PST

I think Armor 2.0 is overall a good thing, but clear needs some work. I think having an armorsmith could really bring Armor 2.0 to the next level and see its full potential. Here's what I propose:

    • Right now, the highest raw stat roll for any obtainable armor is 66 (no mods, MW, traction, etc). Set this value as the "cap". Pay the armor smith glimmer, shards, and/or upgrade modules to upgrade/change armor pieces.

    • These change could include:

      • Increase or decrease selected stats
        • Perhaps + or - 3 for a chosen stat, with the armors total value maxing at 66 (before mods and MW bonuses).
      • Change the elemental affinity of the armor piece
      • Choose/add the mod slot (Opulence, Dawn, Undying, etc).

I think the system could alleviate a lot of the issues with Armor 2.0. This would also make low stat roll items (looking at you Solstice Armor) more appealing, as you'd have more freedom in the final stats of the item. On the flipside, high rolls would still be appealing, as it would take less work to max out. Hardcore players could precisely tune their armor. Xur/Collection exotics would be more viable.

Would love to hear your thoughts.

Masterworking an armor piece should unlock the piece as a permanent ornament

    Posted: 06 Jan 2020 10:14 AM PST

It's the ideal way to allow you to unlock old gear as ornaments to pieces with good stats.

Plus! It makes masterworking more valuable for the expensive cost.

Plus! It solves the solstice armor problem since they're (for most people) already masterworked

The second rune slot for the Chalice of Opulence needs an update for the new stats and no longer works.

    Posted: 06 Jan 2020 04:09 PM PST

When getting armor from the Menagerie the second rune slot is used to not only decide what set that piece is from, but also what stat you wanted that armor piece to be high on. Ever since Armor 2.0 released the second rune slot no longer effects the stats that the armor has. It's completely random now. Not only that, but even if they were still working there are no runes that allow you to guarantee armor with high Discipline, Strength or Intellect.

Broken! Buffs from something like Wormgod's Caress and Winter's Quile stay on forever if you get max stacks and unequip and re-equip the exotic.

    Posted: 06 Jan 2020 10:16 AM PST

Edit: Apparently I was a bit hasty making this, the buff does last forever UNTIL you kill something. That breaks the game by allowing you to damage something that shouldn't be affected by those buffs, such as bosses without ads, until you kill it for as long as that takes instead of just the 5 second buff duration. For example, kill some enemies somewhere, unequip and re-equip, and without meleeing other enemies make your way to something like a boss and proceed to destroy it with the infinite buff duration.

Thanks to Ehroar for bringing this bug/glitch to everyones attention

Turn the Corridors of Time into an honest and true randomized dungeon

    Posted: 06 Jan 2020 09:57 AM PST

    1. It's a beautiful area

    2. It's incredibly underused at the moment only being involved in two missions

    3. There are something like five doors in each room leading to another room with another five doors; each room is randomized with environment hazards and enemies

Start us out with enemies at 900 or something easy. Go through five rooms and you hit either a boss or a jumping puzzle. Get a small reward before moving onto 920 enemies. Rinse and repeat until I'm getting bashed over the head by level 1100's; each set of rooms you complete you get a better tier reward.

I will literally play that for another 200 hours.

Warmind pound for pound is the most underrated DLC of ALL GOT DAMN DESTINY 2

    Posted: 06 Jan 2020 05:50 AM PST

    https://youtu.be/kY0c6KBQeOw

Take a minute to listen to this. This...this isnt just warminds orbit music. This is the theme song of a PROTECTOR. THE HERO OF THE REDWAR. THE GUARDIAN THAT SAINT 14 LOOKS UP TO. YOU. THIS IS YOUR THEME

And it is glorious. And it is what you are. And it is what this dlc was.

"Its just more of the same"

NEIN.NYET. NAH. NO. Let us consider what Warmind brought to the Table. Rather let us consider how big of an improvement Warmind was compared to Curse of Osiris

    1. The Activities. The Escalation Protocol. The public horde mode that has since become the blueprint for nearly every mode since.

Okay this isnt too ground breaking considering Rise of Iron had the Forge. BUT MAAAAN. Is it an improvement that has STOOD THE TEST OF TIME ITSELF.

    2. The Quests. HOLY CRAP. Sleeper Stimulant Quest. The lore behind World Line Zero potentially solving one of Destinys biggest mysteries. The Whisper Mission. Polaris Lance was a cool one too! And speaking of weapons. The Rasputin Key Fragments. The scannable lore. All good. The plot was meh but it made up for it!

    3. THE LOOOOT WUZ POPPIN. World Lone Zero is the DEFACTO SPEEDRUNNING TOOL of all time???? Sleeper was eh. IT MELTED ARGOS

THE WHISPER OF THE WORM WAS THE KING AND IT STILL IS.

THE IKELOS SHOTGUN AND IKELOS SNIPER WERE OUTERVERSAL. SURPASSING ALL OF SPACE AND TIME AS THE TOP LEGENDARY DPS WEAPONS IN ALL OF CREATION

The Ikelos SMG was king of tbe submachine guns in the Crucible. Huckleberry stands tbe test of time. The Ikelos HC is still one of the best in the damn game

THE WORMHUSK CROWN WAS S CLASS

THE WORM GOD CARESS IS THE ONLY THING CAPABLE OF ENABLING YOU WINDOWLICKING TITANS TO SOLO RIVEN TO THIS DAAAAAATE

AND uhh yeah alot of cool curicble weapons like Frigid Jackal. Jian 7. The list goes on.

    1. The Raid. One of the hardest raids to this date in Destiny 2. AND HOLY BLUE BALLED ENGRAMS DOES IT HAVE THE HARDEST BEAT DROP IN EXISTENCE. I GET GOOSEBUMPS EVERY TIME.

    13:34 https://youtu.be/ORor_OMC6Gs

The most badass underdog raidboss to this date. This dude is literally 300 the movie as a raidboss.

    1. The Strikes. Okay fighting a damn worm god was awesome. Yeah its a strike boss. But dude HES ESTABLISHED AS THE WEAKER OF THE BUNCH. I see no harm in killing him. It just goes to cement how much of a badass the Guardian is. That he can win a 1v1 with amped weaponry against a freaking worm god. AND THEN SUBMIT IT IN THE FORM OF A WEAPON. Nokris was a bit lackluster. But becaude its so easy to farm Im willing to overlook that. And his story isnt finished I dont think. The mystery behind him is very compelling.

Mind you it did all of this under the criticism of the past dlc. While also having to deal with the fact they still only used 2 primaries! The odds were stacked against it. It still performed well, and you know what IT SINGLEHANDEDLY BROUGHT MOST OF US VETERANS INTO FORSAKEN ALONG WITH THE COMMUNITY SUMMIT.

If we going to keep season limited content we have to step away from content drip feeding.

We have new model of seasonal content wich is available for 3 months, but still have time gated content in order keep people engaged at all time.

I think its anti-consumer at worse because you cant play all the content for those 3 monts, we actually paid to play Legend mode for 2 monts and Empyrean Foundation (whatever it is) for 1 month. You paid for content that you cant even play in those months, you have to wait for 1-2 months more, like in the old days, but it wont stay here forever like in the old days, i think that should be looked at because its a real concern.

Turn Banshee into a global Weapon smith that can selectively craft any non-activity based weapon at the cost of gunsmith materials.

    Posted: 06 Jan 2020 04:54 PM PST

For most players right now, Banshee has little to no use (engram wise), and players are stockpiling gunsmith materials.

Now in a revamped system, you would be able to select any weapon from a list of world drops for... lets say 150 gunsmith materials, cost may increase or decrease based rarity of world drop. i.e. an Old fashioned vs a Perdition.

IF you did want to include activity based weapons in the list of craftable items, you could just drastically increase their price. (By activity based weapons I mean Opulent/Reckoning/Nightfall drops, etc.) To craft a spare rations for example, it would cost 350 gunsmith materials.

Just a thought. Tell me what you think.

    Destiny math question

    Posted: 06 Jan 2020 08:03 PM PST

At 6:57AM Two guardians standing on different points of a 1000 mile long line fire their jötunns at each other at the same exact time.

Guardian 1 is standing at the 373 mile mark of the 1000 mile line when he shoots his jötunn.

Guardian 2 is standing at the 835 mile mark on the 1000 mile line when he shoots his jötunn.

Assuming that the jötunn projectiles move at 77 mph in a straight line forever, at what mark in the 1000 mile line will the to projectiles meet and how long after their initial firing will they impact each other?
