When the Cosmodrome was introduced to D2, something always looked off. I took screenshots of similar areas between D1 and D2 to compare to figure out what it was. Somehow, the textures, water, skybox and lighting looked much, much better in D1. (A couple of VoG entrance comparisons as a bonus.)

    Posted: 11 Jun 2021 11:54 PM PDT

    Link to album: https://imgur.com/a/rXbfipi

Some things to point out from my observations:

    1. Water looked way, way better in D1; more randomized and realistic. Like it had depth to it. In D2, it's surface pattern is clearly visible, there's no depth or randomness to the water hardly at all.
    2. In D2, Skyboxes have some sort of faded dust filter applied to stunt depth of field. This is clearly obvious in many of these comparisons (like the Venus volcano screenshots, and many others). Like they cranked up the soap opera effect.
    3. D2's Cosmodrome textures are severely lacking in details compared to D1. In fact, by comparison, D2's Cosmodrome textures look cartoonish, plain, washed out.
    4. Somehow the lighting in D1 looked much better in the Cosmodrome, more realistic for distant objects. Added realism.
    5. Overall I like how VoG looks in D2 better, but the screenshot comparisons I provide here are to show the lack of detail in the skyboxes (the volcano is faded out in D2 and the skybox above the VoG entrance is less detailed).

One thing to keep in mind, D2's Cosmodrome looks like it's in the Spring, whereas D1's Cosmodrome looks like it's between the Fall and Winter seasons. This may account for some of the differences.

Did the Cosmodrome look better to you in D1 than in D2?

Edit: for reference, these screenshots were taken on PS4 Pro so that I had the same device to compare between each screenshot. However I normally play on PC, with a 1080 ti at 2K 144FPS. Yet it was playing on PC where I noticed the textures were not as good as they were in D1. So while this was all captured on a PS4 Pro, the textures used in D2 on PC in the cosmodrome still do not look very good and are very similar to this.

Edit 2: Here is an album comparing D1 on PS4 Pro with D2 on PC:

PC version is running at 2K, all video settings maxed with 1 exception, I turned the FoV down to 74 to match console so we have a better apples-to-apples comparison. There is no HDR in this newest album at all on either platform. I added this album because I see comments about how the textures are better on PC, but after reviewing this, I just don't think that's the case at all.

Edit 3: Here's another comparison of the water on Venus in the VoG Entrance:

In these screenshots, the D2 one is on PC at 2k, no HDR, max settings. The D1 screenshot is PS4 Pro. Once again, the water effects are severely lacking on D2.

Edit 4: One final thought, I didn't mean this as a "D1 is a better game than D2 type of post". It's simply comparing the visual quality of The Cosmodrome between the 2 games. I rather enjoy D2 and play it way too much and will continue to do so. I feel both games still have their place and I still dabble in D1 when I feel nostalgic and/or just want to re-run some old story missions or strikes. I'm sure Bungie had a technical reason for these visual differences. It would be awesome if we could get an explanation on why they went the route they did for The Cosmodrome in D2.

    The Infinite Super Glitch

    Posted: 12 Jun 2021 06:13 AM PDT

    Hello there.

My friends Corolla and Henry found a new Infinite Super Glitch and I thought that I'd make a tutorial/text guide to answer some questions you might have about it.

This glitch only works in PVE, private instances, and works best when no enemies are present.

    Here's the video tutorial:

    https://youtu.be/h_uhP5JaXY0

    How to set it up:

    1. It takes 2 people.

    2. Find a vertical death barrier. This is a death barrier that you can walk into and die instantly.

    3. Have a teammate walk into the death barrier.

    4. Revive them repeatedly for 3-4 straight minutes.

    5. When their Ghost starts to lag, open your inventory and change a weapon. It works best if you change a weapon that you're not currently holding. This will remove that weapon from your HUD.

    6. Revive again, then repeat step 5 until you no longer have any weapons equipped.

    7. Pop Super, and it'll be infinite.

    Which supers work?

All roaming/throwing supers will work. Only top and bottom tree Sunbreaker and Warlock Shadebinder will be able to USE the Super. The rest will only be visually infinite.

    How does this work?

When you kill/revive your friend instantly in a death barrier, he drops a holographic copy of his corpse and the weapon he had equipped. Doing this rapidly prevents both from despawning. After repeating this for several minutes, you'll have a big pile of corpses and weapons which will overload the cache. Swapping a weapon will cause an overwrite in an attempt to save space and will essentially delete your weapon. When left with nothing but a super, the game will treat your super like an equipped weapon and will not let you put it down, hence, infinite super.

    Other Oddities:

When doing this glitch, some other unexpected things may happen.

    1. Permadeath. The person with no weapons cannot die. If you do, you won't be able to respawn.

    2. Invisibility. You may become invisible to one or all teammates.

    3. Enemy Aggro. You may be invisible/passive to all enemy NPCs.

    4. Mechanics. You may be unable to interact with some usable objects such as raid banners and other mechanics requiring you to pick something up or use something.

I hope this guide has been helpful and has answered any questions.

Fastball should be the default throw distance and the perk should make you throw grenades faster.

    Posted: 11 Jun 2021 10:41 PM PDT

Just a suggestion because without Fastball on console, your grenade covers no distance at all. This turns it into a similarly functional perk that also has as much utility.

Edit: The perk would be replaced with faster grenade throw speed if the title sounds confusing.

Bungie says they dont want another Scout Rifle meta but i honestly wouldn't mind one.

    Posted: 11 Jun 2021 07:32 PM PDT

Scout rifles on general have never been great in D2, good but never great, and i think that is because of D1 and how Bungie is now scared to make Scouts that potent, As a whole i think having a meta centered around a Primary and not Shotguns for one would be amazing and honestly a breath of fresh air after spending 2 years in a Special weapon meta.

Edit: people seem to think that when i say scout meta i mean scouts beoling overpowered, i just mean scouts being good enought to warrant a meta around them not tyem being OP

Edit 2: i would also like to clarify i also agree DMT is broken and that scouts should not be that strong i just want scount to be a meta viable weapon in PvP

I just had a great experience with a new player.

    Posted: 11 Jun 2021 02:42 PM PDT

So I was going to the tower earlier today to check out Xur's stock, and noticed a low level player running around the future imperfect building. I assumed this was because most sights say Xur is "behind future imperfect". The player ran around the entire hanger for a bit, and while they where doing this, I was frantically searching my emotes.(they weren't responding to chat). I finally found one called "directed plea". It's basically just "OVER HERE". I equipped it, and spammed it near the player. Eventually I got there attention, and slowly, while continuing to use the emote every 50 steps or so, led them to Xur. They put up a heart emote, I used an interactive hug emote, and we went our separate ways. I just thought it was a really cool story, how even though no-one ever uses comms or types, guardians still find a way to talk to each other.

Step 3 - Follow These Steps:

    1. Fly to the Cosmodrome, grab Shaw's bounties, then run any Cosmodrome Strike. Use an Auto Rifle, Scout Rifle, and Rocket Launcher, at least one of which is Void. (15 minutes)
    2. Play one match of Clash, and if needed, one other Crucible match of your choice. (10-20 minutes)

    Total Bounties Cleared: 16 Dailies

    Total Time: 25-35 minutes

    • 96,000 XP (unmodified)
    • 20 Vanguard Tokens, 4/8 Vanguard Weekly Challenge
    • 4/8 Crucible Weekly Challenge
    • 4 Enhancement Cores
    • 8 Mod Components
    • 20 Spinmetal

    Season Ranks Per Hour: 1.92

I think the endless night is getting worse in the tower. Maybe it is just me, but the 'lines and squares' that show when you are inside vex influence seem more saturated lately. And there are little stacks of lines next to zavala that I do not remember being there. Am I crazy?

Can we please get interchangeable scopes back as an option (or mod slot)?

    Posted: 11 Jun 2021 03:37 PM PDT

Very few weapons get interchangeable scopes anymore, and some of them have awful scopes in general. Weapons that used to roll with them, like the number and hung jury (in destiny 1) are now stuck with flat barrel options that only affect stats. There is value to barrel perks, but scopes provide more versatility and customization potential. Think of weapons like the antiope-d and the ringing nail, where the scope changes made for interesting differing feels and unique ways to play with the same gun.

Is there any reason (besides the obvious that more scopes are difficult to model) that we lost scope variety? Personally, I believe that guns (with exceptions such as exotics and raid weapons) should be allowed to swap scopes like mods and keep barrel perks for stat customization. That way, not only does it not become a situation where you need even BETTER rng to get the god-roll, but you still keep the added customization potential scopes provide.

After all, since Bungie is loud and clear about wanting us to play how we want to play, we ought to be allowed to make this small customization to make our guns feel more personal.

    Thoughts?

    Splicer Title

    Posted: 12 Jun 2021 03:01 AM PDT

Just a small tip for anyone going for the Splicer Title this season. Some people probably already know this but thought I'd share for those that don't.

The triumph for killing Vex in splicer armour can be done very quickly by loading in to the Zydron nightmare hunt. Usually, as Nightmare Hunts (on the whole) are pretty irrelevant now, you don't even match with anyone when you're playing, so all of those vex are yours to kill.

Took me about 3-4 runs of it (roughly 5-10mins each) on the easiest difficulty and I had it done. Note though, I was wearing a full set of Lightkin armour to do it.

Bungie nailed the Tower ambiance this season

    Posted: 11 Jun 2021 06:25 PM PDT

For real, the whole vibe and aesthetic of the tower this season is amazing imo.

You've got Eliksni hiding in the shadows, crouched together talking or trying to operate the vending machine in the annex.

The lights all over the tower often flicker and switch off, likely due to the generators being used at all times now with the endless night.

Even the sky box in the tower has vex/ tron lights in the sky, very low down, almost right above your head but also high up in the sky, constantly reminding you that this night is synthetic.

Worst part of the 120 meta

    Posted: 12 Jun 2021 08:29 AM PDT

By far the worst part of the 120rpm HC Meta is the complete lack of Hakke hand cannons. There is only 1. Hakke hand cannons were literally known for being bigass BANG machines and there is not a single one obtainable anymore!

Possible new bug? Got hustled by Saint-14 and didn't receive the level up reward Eye of Sols despite having plenty of space in my inventory (video inside)

Turned in enough Trials tokens to level up twice hoping for a good Eye of Sol (first time playing ToO in D2 so no other item unlocked from the loot pool yet) roll. Got absolutely nothing instead. I had plenty of space in my inventory, checked postmaster, went to orbit and came back, nothing.

Ever since the start of the season, chat hasn't been working properly. Nothing you type up shows up when you hit enter sometimes. Meaning you have to restart the game for it to work. I know it's not that big of a deal but could they at least acknowledge the problem?
