    Trials of Osiris are LIVE

This thread is for all general discussion, questions, thoughts, musings, wonderings, etc. for the Trials of Osiris.

    FAQ

    • NOTE: This was written in advance by us mods. It might be that stuff here is wrong. We'll correct it once we get to play it ourselves. Feel free to leave stuff you want to see included in the comments as well!

    What is Trials of Osiris?

    • Trials of Osiris is the pinnacle PvP activity. Every Weekend, the best players compete in 3v3 Elimination for one goal: Go Flawless.

    • To reach Flawless and get to the Lighthouse, you need to win 7 matches without losing one.

    • It uses Win Based Matchmaking, which means you'll face teams with a similar amount of wins on their card. Matches will get harder as you win more matches.

    • There is NO matchmaking. You need to team up yourself!

    • Power Level matters, however bonus power from the artifact is not enabled in the first week bonus power from the artifact enabled!

How Long do the Trials of Osiris last?

    • Event Starts: Every Friday at Daily Reset (1700 UTC).

    • Event Ends: Following Tuesday at Weekly Reset (1700 UTC).

Where do I go to find Guardians to compete with in the Trials?

    • You can head over to /r/Fireteams, www.The100.io, Xbox LFG system, DestinyLFG.net or DestinyLFG.com, or go to the Bungie.net recruitment forum (also available through the Bungie App).

What if I have a question about another piece of armor/weapon or general Trials question?

    • Use Control + F (Or Command + F if on a Mac) and search for keywords in your question. Someone may have asked it already. If they haven't ask right below.

The return of Trials is pointless

There's no need to go flawless. You're already flawless.

Bungie, since Bright Engrams have been removed from the store, can we get back Bright Dust from Bright Engram items?

    Posted: 13 Mar 2020 07:56 AM PDT

The initial statement that you were reasoning the changes made to the Bright Engrams was as follows:

"This Fall we're changing Bright Dust from a pay- and/or play-to-earn currency to a play-to-earn reward. We're adding Bright Dust as a reward for completing Vanguard, Crucible, and Gambit bounties. We want all players to earn Dust for playing, not for spending money and destroying a bunch of items in their inventory. After you complete all your bounties for the week, there will be an additional avenue to keep grinding out Bright Dust."

-Luke Smith, during the "Fall Eververse Changes" News post

With half the argument, that being "We want all players to earn Dust for playing, not for spending money...", not applying anymore, it would be reasonable to move back slightly towards the players being able to obtain Bright Dust from Bright Engrams, with the main reason being:

    Obtainability

You, Bungie, clearly want us to play the game and your idea of playing the game, at least at the time the changes were made and of recent times (because recent events followed the trends), was completing bounties which earn us Bright Dust. The main way to obtain Bright Engrams, as of writing this post, is by leveling up your season pass rank, with every 5 ranks yielding a Bright Engram.

But what has that to do with you, Bungie, wanting us to complete bounties to earn Bright Dust? Well, the main way to level the season pass, is by completing bounties, since any other way to go about it is not really getting the player anywhere, so Bright Dust and Bright Engram obtainability coincide both in relying on the player to complete bounties to obtain them, which makes the previous split introduced in fall redundant.

So with both the pay to earn element being gone and the split between Bright Dust and Engrams being made redundant by the way they're obtained, I don't see why Bright Dust should not be reintroduced into their rightful home, the Bright Engram.

Can we retire Surrounded and Dragonfly Spec mods and just make the perks do the enhanced forms? The base perks suck without the mods, but then we need to use the mod slot for champion mods. Rampage Spec maybe too, but base rampage is still great wothout.

Bungie as a mostly PVE player I was excited to get into Trials, take my lumps, and eventually get my armor and guns. Now I am not going to play at all.

    Posted: 13 Mar 2020 03:08 PM PDT

Armor is locked behind flawless. That flawless armor is only available in pieces locked by week. And the guns are on rotation. All that combined to make me have NO desire to play. If you HAD Adept weapons locked behind Flawless, I'd be fine. If you had permanent armor glows as a Flawless award, I'd get it. But you're telling me, you're locking the armor behind flawless??? This isn't the same as Comp where I can gradually work toward my goal. Just a single loss (or 2 if you use forgiveness) means I can't get the armor.

You want Trials to be a healthy playlist? Then give everyone a reason to go in. Rewards for those who give their best, and rewards for those who ARE the best. The whole set up is counter intuitive Bungie. But I don't wanna rant without giving constructive feedback. So here it goes.

-Have Flawless give Adept weapons. Just make Celerity an intrinsic perk and have the weapons be masterworked.

-Have ALL weapons and armor drop randomly and via token turn in.

-Armor dropping from the flawless chest ALWAYS drops at 66+

-Allow exotics to have a Master level nightfall drop rate from the flawless chest

-Permanent armor glows and auras for flawless

    So about the lighthouse loot...

    Posted: 13 Mar 2020 11:22 AM PDT

No adept weapons...yikes. Not sure how long trials is gonna last without them.

The armor and weapon glows are cool, but the flawless version of the weapons was what made everyone want to get to the light house so badly.

Let us rob Banshee-44 for Ascendant Shards.

    Posted: 13 Mar 2020 08:15 AM PDT

Me on my titan: pulls up to Banshee

    Banshee: "how's it going hunter"

Me: pulls out my 4th horseman "give me all the Ascendant Shards or I'll turn you into Banshee-45"

Shaxx: walks around the corner "is their a problem here sir?"

Me: blasts both Bashee and Shaxx with the 4th horseman

    Banshee and shaxx: lives

    Me: "what? How?"

Banshee: "that's your problem, not enough stopping power"

    Me: fist of panic

    Banshee and shaxx: lives

Shaxx: "I could feel that in my bones!"

Me: grabs the Ascendant Shards and runs away

Banshee: pulls out the Leviathans Breath and nails me in the head

The 6 random people in the tower around me: dies of collateral damage

Shaxx: "What! That was all of them!.....7TH COLUMN"

    Banshee: smiles

Edit: how did this got alot of upvotes? I wrote this instead of doing trigonometry classwork.

No adept weapons is a huge mistake

    Posted: 13 Mar 2020 03:19 PM PDT

Not having adept weapons in trials is a shame, I was so hyped but with pinicle rewards coming to the vanguard and crucible weekly challenges I dont feel the need or want to go flawless.

Back in D1 when trials first came out, when any of my friends saw someone with an adept weapon in the crucible we would take note of that player and play around them, it wasn't cause we thought "oh that player has that op weapon" it was because we respected the skill and determination it took him/her to get it.

Having an extra perk as simple as snapshot gave adept weapons the right blend of power to where it wasn't overpowered but it was still worth trying every weekend to go flawless.

And it frustrates me that the perfect perk for an adept weapon is in the game in the form of celerity, the only place it would have any benefit is in survival and trials itself .

I will always be more proud of an adept weapon than a piece of armor that changes colour depending on what emblem I'm wearing.

Everyone's upset about Adept Weapons not being present in trials, but what about the fact we can only get one armor piece per week? and it's from going flawless?

    Posted: 13 Mar 2020 05:03 PM PDT

This is my own observation from today as I could not find the information elsewhere. It seems everyone's loot from trials is the same today.

    3 wins: Scout Rifle

    5 wins: Rocket Launcher

    7 wins: Fusion Rifle

    Flawless: Gauntlets/Emblem/Materials

If you spend your tokens it seems you can only earn rewards you unlocked from trials, and have to wait for the next week to get more armor. Either that or it rotates daily. I really have no use for any of the things in rotation at the moment and the loot is just sub-par today.

I just want the helmet and trials armor, not even weapons, that's what I was excited most about. If it's weekly, I personally think it's absurd I'd have to go flawless 5-weeks in a row to get a full set. If that's the case it's really souring the experience for me.

Can /u/dmg04 or /u/Cozmo23 confirm whether or not the rewards rotate, and if they rotate daily/weekly? I'd like to know if I can get the armor this week or if I'm restricted to one unique piece per week.

Please, if you are doing the Rasputin towers, its super important to KEEP THE ENEMIES OFF THE GLOWY RED SQUARE

    Posted: 13 Mar 2020 03:27 AM PDT

You see a big captain off in the distance? WGAF, worry about him later. If you hear the tower charging priority numero uno is keeping all the enemies off it. Especially the invisible aholes. Thats the only objective at that point. If you want successful clears, make it your job. I know, i know, you are about to comment how you do it all the time. Well this obviously isnt directed towards you. Anyone still clueless whats going on but just wants to get in there to help, THIS IS FOR YOU.

The artifact weapon mods should act as passive effects instead equippable mods

    Posted: 13 Mar 2020 11:02 AM PDT

Honestly, I've disliked the artifact since Shadowkeep for this reason. I don't want to keep switching mods on my guns for one activity with champions and switch back for general play. I would enjoy Destiny much more if unlocking unstoppable hand cannon rounds effectively gave all equipped HCs unstoppable rounds. Same goes for everything in the third column of mods, those would be SO MUCH better as passive effects for the season. The only things that really need to be mods are the last two columns with mods like Thunder Coil and Inferno Whip as well as the targeting/unflinching/loader/scavenger mods.

TL;DR 1st and 3rd column of the artifact would be better as passive effects for the season instead of equippable mods

    [Spoiler]Exploring Zavala's Office

    Posted: 13 Mar 2020 12:42 PM PDT

    I found a way inside Zavala's Office.

Thanks to a glitch method by a buddy of mine, I was able to get inside the office and poke around a little bit. There's a bunch of Easter Eggs in the office. He's asked me not to reveal the method, so I won't.

Here's some of the stuff I found in there:

    • Getting Sweaty with Shaxx Mixtape
    • Speaker Mask
    • Interactive Newton's Cradle
    • Raze Lighter type statue
    • A knitting table
    • Room behind the office that may be for a future exotic. (speculation)

Here's a 2 minute video of me poking around.

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tdoHuMs-Uzk

    Edit:

I made another video after I noticed the path to get inside the Vault. So instead of making a new post, I'll just add it here:

With trials being a great example, it’s almost like bungie has an itch to take something that works and change it for the sake of changing it

    Posted: 13 Mar 2020 02:44 PM PDT

In trials now there is weekly weapon pools - who asked for this?

No adept weapons - a main reason for trying flawless was to get these as they had a distinct advantage over their regular versions

One armour drop per week - again another player retention tactic

Overall 2/3 of these changes are clearly in place to keep player numbers high but bungie, in destiny 1 trials numbers were high naturally because of the CHASE.

It feels like the chase for pinnacle loot has been lost from the underwhelming rolls to the lack of adept weapons and this makes the retention tactics feel much much worse. Players don't like feeling like they're missing out if they can't play for a weekend.

For new or returning players: do not purchase Concentrated Mattergem, Glimmershard, or Scavenger's Boon from the Eververse Store with your Bright Dust

    Posted: 13 Mar 2020 09:15 PM PDT

They're all useless scams designed to waste player's collections of Bright Dust. Bright Dust is extremely difficult to come by now, and most items in the Eververse Store are very expensive. These 3 items, generally found on the front page of the Eververse Store, are a complete waste. They're designed to deplete Bright Dust from your inventory and incentivize actual money purchases of Silver from your platform shop.

We need Christopher Barrett back on the front lines

    Posted: 13 Mar 2020 11:00 AM PDT

He was the face of house of wolves, rise of iron, warmind, and forsaken. Those expansions were all on the smaller side, except forsaken but they were exactly what the game needed at the time that they came out. I hope he's having a good amount of influence behind the scenes to move us into a better spot for the next expansion.

Bungie, I mean this as nicely as possible, but SERIOUSLY?! No Adept weapons?

    Posted: 13 Mar 2020 03:33 PM PDT

You guys have had over a year and a half to develop an improved Trials of Osiris. You received a metric ton of feedback that you had more than plenty of time to address, and while you did address some of it, you failed on the most important one of all; a reason to go flawless. Adept weapons are all you needed, and it blows my mind they don't exist.

You dropped ritual weapons for no reason (no, the Iron Banner one doesn't count; it was left over from last season) and now there aren't any Adept weapons. Why not?! They're literally reskins of reskins with an intrinsic perk that sets them apart from the basic weapons. I can not possibly comprehend why you would neglect to add them in. This is on top of the fact that you've locked the weapon pools on a weekly basis, what is your plan? Why are you doing everything you can to remove reasons to play the game?

The Guardian Who Liked The Season of the Worthy

    Posted: 13 Mar 2020 12:04 PM PDT

There are those Guardians who live for PVP, the thrill of the Crucible and the excitement of Gambit. There are those Guardians who live to grind, those who live to find new gear, those who want to be the first to complete a new Challenge.

And then there are those like me who like running around and well, just enjoying ourselves doing missions and bounties and bathing in the lore and the explosions and the very nice scenery. The first day of the new Season I was utterly lost but now I am having huge fun with the frames, the bunkers and the emerging story.

It's almost as if it was a game...

    Maintenance Operations Log 30037

    Posted: 13 Mar 2020 08:58 AM PDT

    Source: https://www.bungie.net/en/News/Article/48813

    Maintenance Operations Log 30037

TYPE: MAINTENANCE FRAME OPERATIONS LOG [03037]

    PARTIES: Two [2]. One[1], Guardian-type, Class Titan [u.1]; One [1] Guardian-type, Class Warlock [u.2]

ASSOCIATIONS: Bigge 99-40 [Unit2070]; Caloris Spires [Mercury]; Crucible; Trials of Osiris; VG Maintenance Attachment, Osiris, Saint-14, Vanguard Commanders Registry, Cult of Osiris

[u.1:01] I told you I would guide them to build the Lighthouse. Not carry the torch for you.

[u.2:01] The Guardians require a balance Lord Shaxx can't provide. There is no one else.

    [u.1:02] And what about you?

[u.2:02] I have unfinished business out in the dark. Take this.

[u.1:03] What is this? A letter?

[u.2:03] For your eyes only, when I depart. Trust nothing. No one.

[u.1:04] Ha ha. Except you, of course.

[u.2:04] When have I ever led you astray?

    [u.1:05] This week, you mean?

[u.2:05] Help where you can. The Vanguard has been serving too long; their blind spots have grown.

[u.1:06] Perhaps. But they're wiser, too. Ikora Rey and the Commander have guided the City through dire straits.

[u.2:06] Have you spoken to the House of Light, like I asked?

[u.1:07] I would rather not speak with Fallen.

[u.2:07] They may need our help. Their cause is just.

[u.1:08] What happened to "trust no one?"

[u.2:08] What happened to your sense of right and wrong, hero?

[u.1:09] That is the City's word, not mine. And the people still remember when I defended its borders from those very Fallen.

[u.2:09] Our kind live for a very long time, Saint. Too long to bear grudges.

[u.1:10] These accolades I wear are a reminder of what we lost to get here.

[u.2:10] I think those who gave them to you would be disappointed to hear that.

[u.1:11] I had nearly forgotten that you finally asked about them.

[u.2:11] We live too long for regrets. You taught me that. Don't forget the House of Light.

[u.1:12] If I can find the time, yes. Not all of us conjure Echoes.

[u.2:12] Reflections, Saint. I have no need for Echoes anymore.

[u.1:13] What do you mean? What's the difference?

[u.2:13] One is a manifestation of Light. The other… reserved for Taken Kings. Better suited for traversing the Sundial because of what lies at its core.

[u.1:14] One day you'll have to tell me exactly what you and the Guardian did to bring me back.

[u.2:14] We did what we had to. Trust me.

[u.1:15] Now you sound like the rat.

[u.2:15] No. The Drifter sounds like me.

[u.1:16] Where do you go next?

[u.2:16] Wherever my road takes me. The Lunar Pyramid has galvanized the Hive; Toland has been left unchecked for too long. I've heard he's still wandering the Cursed City.

[u.1:17] Then you really are just going to leave me with a burning sack. I should call it the Trials of Saint-14.

[u.2:17] You could. But you know how fickle Guardians can be about names.

[u.1:18] I will prepare them, in your stead, for what's coming—one last time.

[u.1:18] It's bad luck to say last. Try not to put them on too high a pedestal, Saint. There's no one else to guide them.

Keep your high level gear in your inventory - Highest level detection is bugged

    Posted: 13 Mar 2020 09:29 AM PDT

Currently auto-detection of highest level load for vendor engram rewards, and possibly others (testing would be appreciated), is bugged. Gear in other characters inventories is no longer used as part of the calculation. Gear has to be in the character you are redeeming ons inventory or your vault. This affects both weapons and armour.

This was initially discovered by /u/mbllim771_kyle and confirmed by me.

You can use DestinyItemManager's Maximum Level fearure to automatically pull your highest level gear to your characters inventory.

EDIT: This is primarily for vendor rewards I.e. those gotten from tokens or planetary materials Video of proof.
