    Hello Guardians,

Focused Feedback is where we take the week to focus on a 'Hot Topic' discussed extensively around the Tower.

We do this in order to consolidate Feedback, to get out all your ideas and issues surrounding the topic in one place for discussion and a source of feedback to the Vanguard.

This Thread will be active until next week when a new topic is chosen for discussion

Whilst Focused Feedback is active, ALL posts regarding 'Champions' following its posting will be removed and re-directed to this thread. Exceptions to this rule are as follows: New information / developments, Guides and general questions

Any and all Feedback on the topic is welcome.

Regular Sub rules apply so please try to keep the conversation on the topic of the thread and keep it civil between contrasting ideas

A Wiki page - Focused Feedback - has also been created for the Sub as an archive for these topics going forward so they can be looked at by whoever may be interested or just a way to look through previous hot topics of the sub as time goes on.

Bungie, I want to see you play your own game - because I doubt you honestly can anymore.

    Posted: 06 Apr 2020 02:35 PM PDT

Shadowkeep onwards has eroded my faith that you understand what Destiny is or what it feels like to actually play it.

Granted, I've been a little skeptical of Luke's vision ever since he told us consumable shaders would make people raid...

    1. You think sunsetting weapons is a good idea because you look at data about what we use - not because you've tried the alternatives. You don't understand that's because you're not introducing weapons that compete with them. You think you should take them away instead? Walk a mile in our shoes.
    2. You think the bounty economy and season pass bloat (glimmer? Really? We used to get bright dust every level up) is acceptable progression. Let's see you live that. No spending silver, get the stuff you want through bright dust because you paid $40 for this year of D2.
    3. You think this is enough content for this season. I want to see Bungie staff play it for 3 unpaid hours every night. Start them at 960 and just let 'em loose. How's power progression? How do you like Rasputin bunkers?
    4. You think Trials was fully baked because you don't play PvP. Play it this weekend, I honestly dare you. Go for flawless. Keep trying until you do. That's what we should all want, right?
    5. Play the single Y3 raid the way you think we should. Let us know how much you enjoy the sniper nerfs. Bonus points for using shotguns the whole raid.
    6. Once you earn the seasonal title on your first day, keep playing 3 hours every night. No, you don't get to stop. You want us to sink time into this slop so you can pat each other on the back about player time investment metrics. Live it, you cowards.

You guys wouldn't play this crap even if you were paid to. If you're not making the game you want to play, step down and let someone else give us what we deserve. I never thought I'd say it but I'd give this game back to Activision in a heartbeat because at least they know how to make enjoyable games. All you guys know is how to tell us we're wrong and how to PR spin "noted" 100 different ways.

———————— Editing for a few things.

    • I keep seeing people talk about code beaver. My post is about design decisions, not server bugs. Besides, how much stability can we expect when they're all working from home (which is something I 100% agree with by the way).
    • I hear a lot of "I agree with everything but weapon sunsetting". My problem is it's a system of promised value. Get rid of these weapons you love now, and we can make more weapons you love. Uhhh...no... I also think it's strange that Bungie nerfs weapon types and perks instead of specific weapons. These points are tied together.
    • Yes, I am burnt out on the game. Yes, I want the game to get better. No, I'm not forcing myself to play the game anyway.

I love Destiny and sometimes, I even loved Bungie as a company. Regardless of whether you agree or disagree with some points I made, I think we can all agree this is not the Bungie we've come to know.

Maybe they're skeleton-crewing this to work on Destiny 3, or they found themselves without development backup from Activision's studios. Maybe they're too proud to take advice from the people who play the game every day. Maybe it's all of these.

I made this post to highlight that this is not the game we once knew, and something I hope Bungie wouldn't have been proud of back in the Warmind or Forsaken days.

I want Y4 to be better, or D3 to be the game we deserve. At this rate, I don't have faith in that unless we send a loud, clear, and most importantly unified message to Bungie.

Seeing everyone talk about how there's no incentive to go flawless in Trials reminds me that the PvE equivalent - flawless raids - also has no real incentive

    Posted: 06 Apr 2020 06:53 AM PDT

Seriously - as a primarily PvE player who takes raids seriously, it irks me that PvP players are constantly whining about how there's no incentive to go flawless in Trials so that they can be rewarded for their skill.

Know what the rewards are for flawless raids? Nothing. There is no guaranteed loot of any kind, there are no secret raid rewards that you can only get on flawless runs, there is no guarantee that you get the raid exotic, there isn't even an emblem/tracker to my knowledge. All you get is one triumph of multiple required towards a specific title. Oh, and for GoS you get a shader too.

Since pretty much forever, the only real reward for flawless raids was a cool title to display over your head so people knew you "did the thing," and that's been enough for the community. I found a few older discussions also bringing up that flawless raids should reward special loot, and plenty of the response was that we shouldn't lock gear behind super hard difficulty walls in that manner. Why is it now that when this same things happens in PvP it's unacceptable, and it's totally fine to just tell people "git gud" or else they don't deserve rewards?

I feel like battle passes where created for mobas/battle royal games to give a sense of progression in a game which you progress nothing between games. Why we have that in destiny an RPG, which is a genre defined by personification of effort to progress your character, i will never understand.

Forget the current season for a moment. Solstice gear was the biggest bait and switch Bungie pulled on all of us.

    Posted: 06 Apr 2020 08:59 PM PDT

Bungie comes alone, proclaims that the new Armor 2.0 is finally here and lo and behold. Those who grind for hours getting this awesome looking gear with sick glows will be able to get their hands on Armor 2.0 first.

So we bought it, we spent 15k bright dust, I personally spent the money, thinking that it would go to Bungie and not activision to support a "better cause"

Turns out that was all a lie. First armor 2.0 gear? Not even close, the first armor 2.0 gear I got was from my season pass, the vex offensive armor. The solstice gear was second. I opened up the pack from Banshee aaaaand 48 stats.

    48

World drops have more than that, heck the Substitutional alloy armor from the season pass was higher than that by an average of 5 stats. Not to mention the affinity was arc, which is only the 2nd worst affinity next to solar.

NOT ONLY THAT. It had no seasonal mod socket. Yeah, you heard that right. The random legendary you found on the ground killing dregs, can have warmind cells (and higher stats). Charged with light mods. Enhanced relay defender.

But that solstice gear you spent real money on and spent hours grinding. Nope, no seasonal mod sockets for you.

And then Bungie had the audacity to come out and say "yeah we're thinking about changing it." It has been half a year, and yet we've heard literally NOTHING from them about it despite the numerous posts asking for an update on what they plan to do.

This is incredibly disappointing, Bungie please do something.

REVERT Luna’s howl and Not forgotten to their respective forsaken values.

    Posted: 06 Apr 2020 08:18 AM PDT

Luna's howl and not forgotten have lost all potency on both console and pc, with auto rifles now having a 0.70 ttk value Luna's and NF just cant hang...

In forsaken the guns had a 0.67 ttk value only .03 behind the newly buffed autos, reverting them back to that 0.67 ttk will allow for more options then just hard light and other autos in that energy slot.

Being pinnacle weapons Luna's and not forgotten should have some potency about them rather than just be a trophy piece in an unbroken's vault .

I had fun playing Destiny last night ...

    Posted: 06 Apr 2020 07:47 AM PDT

I put aside all the negatives and all the issues I have with Destiny right now, I got 5 friends to get on their titans and we went full Top Gun in Mayhem. It was a very refreshing and a much-needed break from the game as I currently know it. The results are below if you're so inclined.

    Top Gun Titans

EDIT: Hey all! Thanks for all the kind words. I'm seeing a bunch of comments about submitting this for MOTW and just wanted to put the link here so you all know I did submit it.

Warden of None is far and away the best Nightfall the Ordeal Strike

    Posted: 06 Apr 2020 06:33 AM PDT

Just wanted to say that Warden of None, at least at the heroic level, is far and away the best nightfall strike we've seen so far.

The strike itself is just generally awesome. It's one of the cooler environments in the game (no disrespect meant to the Arcology or The Dreaming City). The Vex fights while you're dodging trains are tense, interesting, and unlike almost everything else in the game. The final boss fight is unique and challenging, assuming you don't just burn the warden down that is. And the strike respects your time. It manages to pack all of that into one of the quicker strikes in the game. Just an all around well done strike. Easily one of the best strikes in either Destiny game.

But what makes it so good as a nightfall is the presence of ten champions, only one of which you could potentially skip. That means even when matchmaking you're almost certainly going to kill ten champions. That's important because you get platinum rewards for every five champions you kill. Warden of None as Nightfall the Ordeal is an almost ideal resource farm.

Eriana's vow is BROKEN with Divinity now!!

    Posted: 06 Apr 2020 08:11 AM PDT

Today, I went to nightfall ordeal with my friends.

at first, we used eriana's vow with divinity.

at that time, i found something weird. eriana's vow did lower damage with divinity.

so we did some research on nesus, and below is my evidence.

    https://imgur.com/gallery/jMjKCJ7

left one is with divinity, doing 6,702 for body shot.

right one is without divinity, doing 8,050 for body shot.

shot with divinity is even lower than body shot. it's totally broken.

Dear Bungie - please continue double loot on high difficulty NF Ordeal

    Posted: 06 Apr 2020 11:14 AM PDT

Its been fun this week dipping in and doing a few Runs. Havent been able to abuse it or anything but seen a lot of positive posts and people enjoying themselves and thats been a rare sight this season if you ask me.

I know Bungie might argue the double rewards might ruin the loot balance (member the Menagerie chests. I member) but what if they just made it higher levels of difficulty?? High reward for high difficulty.

Just a thought. Anyone agree? Be a shame to see it die back down again. I still remember when Menagerie basically died once it got patched.

Transversive Steps' reload sound effect is broken

    Posted: 06 Apr 2020 01:33 PM PDT

This has been driving me crazy. The prime function on my most frequently used exotic armor is flat out broken. The reload "click" sound that happens a moment after sprinting is too early. My instincts are to stop sprinting after I hear that sound, but now I have to wait an extra moment to make sure the reload actually happened. Is Bungie aware of this?

I find upgrading my Bunker and getting stronger frames and stronger Valkyries cool. What I don't find cool is the fact that in 2 months all that work to get cool things is going to disappear

    Posted: 06 Apr 2020 03:10 AM PDT

Unpopular opinion I know, some people say bunkers are obelisks 2.0 and I can see that, but with the bunkers theres just something I like about the upgrades. The fact that I can summon frames that shoot fast, or get valkyries that last longer and explode better. It feels like in a way, upgrading the Bunkers upgrades me.

What I don't like is how that all this progress is just going to go "poof" and the bunkers will just disappear at the end of the season with no remnants at all. Your valkyries? gone, your frames named Jimmy that you raised to be big and strong? gone. And I don't really like that at all.

Bungie tries to raise this idea of "you had to be there" but it's clear that Bungie cannot force those moments. In fact I'd say that for a "you had to be there" moment, someone would have to ask about it in the first place. How many people that joined Destiny after season of undying know about the vex offensive. Probably none, because there's literally no reason for them to know. Maybe if the portal was still behind Ikora a new light could stop and ask "hey what's that?" and veterans would have a story to tell, at the least.

If the tower obelisk still sat there people would be able to ask, "hey what are those symbols? what do they mean? why is this here" and veterans would be able to tell the story of the dreaded hexagon puzzle and how we donated a billion fractaline.

But we just can't do those "yeah we did this and that" moments because there's nothing actually there to hold their place in the Destiny world. Sure, tell your stories all you want, but until that New light sees a figmant of that time, the story is just going to be that, a story, not a world he feels like he was part of.

Whisper and Outbreak do this very well, because you can still access those quests.

Now back to the idea of Bunkers. I can flaunt all I want about how I made a cool top tier bunker with big valkyries and big boi valkyrie shooters. And that New light is going to ask me "oo can you show me?" and I'm just going to have to say "yeah uhhh it was there, right here, this patch of dirt, there was a bunker but ummm, you can't go there. Because Bungie removed it."

And what am I going to have to show for it? A video I took? A trailer from a month ago? To them they might as well be watching a different video game, because they don't feel connected to the world that they missed. Again, because to them it's just a story.

It’s hard to tell at a glance what stat someone is showing on an emblem

    Posted: 06 Apr 2020 03:51 PM PDT

The old emblem system created a simple association between the single stat it showed and the emblem design. This made it easy to, at a glance, know what a stat on an emblem is.

If it's a raid emblem, it showed number of clears.

If it's a glory emblem, it showed glory rank.

People understood these associations, it was learnable. The new emblem stat system breaks any ability for people to create an association between the visual of an emblem and any single stat. This makes stats on emblems meaningless unless someone hovers over the emblem to find out what stat is being show.

Hovering on an emblem presents the stat as a path commonly used in file systems on computers...which requires a large cognitive load to follow the path of what the stat actually means.

The whole emblem stat change feels like it was led by developers that don't understand users/people. We asked for the ability to turn off stats and got a system that completely devalues stats in general by removing the association between a single stat and a single emblem.

Bungie listens, but they don't hear us.

Double drops on NF loot should be standard for the GRANDMASTER (1060) version

    Posted: 06 Apr 2020 08:27 AM PDT

So the 1060 NF launches pretty soon, boasting only a heightened drop rate for ascendant shards and exotics. I think that it should just be double drops at the end of the strike, just how it is (due to the bug) on the warden of nothing. This would be more than enough incentive to run it at 1060, since it's shaping up to be quite difficult with everyone being underlevelled.

    Posted: 06 Apr 2020 05:06 PM PDT

Lately I've just been missing the eco system of the game. A good bounty system. The raids. The weapons. Activities. The classic weapon system. My trials loot. My iron banner loot. Trials AND iron banner. The leveling system.

I don't know. Nothing crazy to say here.

I'm bored. I want to take a break from playing this game but I don't know what other game out there to play.

Instead, I'm sitting here on my freaking couch. Watching Tiger King.

Made a flowchart for people behind on bunkers!

    Posted: 06 Apr 2020 10:03 AM PDT

    Guardians,

Here's a flowchart for anyone who still might be confused on what to do regarding bunkers and bits!

We're getting the Io bunker tomorrow, but we already have access (through OOB shenanigans) to the terminal, so we can see the unlocks.

Keep in mind, you can do this in any order that you want, but if you want to be Optimal™, this graphic will help you down the right path. The "Total Required" numbers are based on bare minimum if you follow the flowchart itself and get the cost reductions first.

    Happy grinding!

Finally figured out what's been bugging me about D2 from the beginning. Nothing is at stake and the tone is too light.

    Posted: 06 Apr 2020 04:01 PM PDT

I was playing Heroic Story missions the other day to try to wrap up a triumph for completing Red War heroic missions. I saw that Riptide was an option and was about to go for it since it is a <5 min level to just blast through for the completion, but then I saw that Utopia was an option. I remembered loving that mission from Year 1, so I loaded it up.

It's a fantastic mission. The story is tight and the environments are excellent, but most importantly, the tone is on point. It is dark, it is brooding, it is atmospheric and foreboding.

If you think about The Taken King expansion (imo the height of the entire franchise so far), as well as the SIVA Crisis in ROI to a lesser extent and things like Crota's End, there was this dark, ominous quality to the game. The world was honestly kinda frightening. It felt like there were ever-present existential threats that we were barely holding back. Granted, the Hive and their entire backlog of lore is pretty creepy and their design is intentionally so. But even Vault of Glass had a horror element to it (guardians lost in time/space or phased out of existence altogether) and it was a mysterious journey of discovery to do that raid.

D2 had that chance with the Red War, but by killing Ghaul in the campaign and then having the raid (Leviathan) be a Liberace-esque space olympics... the game never recovered that dark tone in D2. Savathun's Song is the closest we come (along with the Utopia level), but is marred by... interesting?... voice acting. Curse of Osiris was a chance to bring back the tone, but instead turned Brother Vance into a cartoonish fanboy and the entire Vex Infinite Forest time problem was largely farcical. Warmind pulled it back a bit, and Forsaken+ was decent at dragging the game back in a more suspenseful direction (ascendant realm hopping and a wish dragon, etc). Shadowkeep hinted at darker moments, but never really went all in (Vex invasion alongside Eris' return I feel cheapened & confused the narrative). We've never truly gotten back to that intense feeling of dread and horror that permeated D1.

Destiny succeeds when Bungie leans into darker tones (D1 raids, TTK, SIVA Crisis, Red War, Cayde 6 death, Eris' return & haunting). These are the high water marks that draw players back in, but the game itself can oftentimes feel almost silly at times. Cayde 6 worked so well in D1 because he was the ONLY comic relief. The game was fairly relentlessly serious and dark. In D2, everyone was comic relief, which led to that feeling of silliness. They've done a decent job pulling it back, but the foundation they built was far enough off that I'm not sure D2 will ever reach that same tone/pitch that made D1 feel so tense and magical.
