I know this isn't a priority, but can we talk about gambit?

    Posted: 30 May 2020 05:31 PM PDT

Ever since season of the drifter, gambit has seen very little changes at all. It's almost as if they thought "this is good enough" and stuffed it on the backburner. Being a reckoner, I have sunk many hours into this gamemode only to have the same issues arise each time I play. While Prime made many improvements to gambit in general, a lot of things contribute to why many people hate it. These problems include:

    1. Heavy weapons in general. It's unfair for an invader to have heavy and only one teammate to have heavy to counter them at the beginning. This only compounds when one team gets more heavy due to RNG, making invading less skill-based and more affected by RNG. And don't even get me started on specifics weapons like Xeno and Truth. These in general are not healthy for gambit. In my opinion, heavy should be locked while playing gambit, but if it is going to stay there needs to be some major rebalances. Oh, and don't forget scavenger mods are a thing.
    2. With armor sunsetting coming, Prime armor needs to be exempt. In a power based gamemode, if these armors are sunset they will lose their purpose. Considering they were created specifically for gambit prime, it would be a shame to not be able to use them effectively.
    3. Oh boy, this is a gonna be a long section. Invading needs to be toned down, specifically during the mote gathering part. It is extremely easy to snowball the whole match just by winning the first invasion. During the first "invasion phase" one team usually is able to send 2-3 blockers to the other side. Then their invader jumps in the portal. At this point, the opposing team is now usually sandwiched between the blockers and the invader since they need to be in the center of the map to deposit the motes they are still carrying. Chaos then ensues as they cannot fight the invader without the blockers shooting them, and they cant shoot the blockers without the invader shooting them. They then lose the majority of their motes if not all of them. Meanwhile, the invading team has been collecting more motes to deposit, meaning the other team then has even more blockers to worry about, plus another invasion (usually happens right after the invader leaves). Chaining continuous invasions and blockers will cause this team to fall into a state where they cannot collect motes (usually can't even get out of spawn) without getting decimated by both the blockers and invaders. To stop this, either the first invasion needs to happen later, and/or follow-up invasions need to be slower. By increasing the number of motes needed for first invasion, the "blocker wave" that is sent will be eliminated, reducing the amount of danger when the invader comes in. By increasing the time between invasions, the snowball cannot occur (happens because of back-to-back invasions). The more important of the two is increasing the time between two invasions.
    4. Blockers need to get either toned down with their abilities, or they need to be swapped out. Specifically, this means the captain and knight teleports. They should not be able to teleport 5 times in a row, evading every shot you take. This not only extends the fight to kill the blockers, but also is aggravating, considering you lose ammo in the process. Sometimes killing a blocker a few seconds faster can make a difference in whether you can deposit or not, and a teleporting blocker should not influence it to this degree. Not to mention when they do teleport, they can instantly move 20m back, then teleport behind you and blast you to death. THIS IS NOT FUN.

I hope some changes can be made down the line, even if it isn't soon. Gambit prime armor specifically needs to be addressed soon considering the sunsetting of armor, but the rest can wait a bit. I hope gambit doesn't get left in the dust, as it is still a core activity of the game. Additionally, solving these problems will make the gamemode more bearable for the casual player. I only hope gambit will evolve into a fun gamemode many people love.

    Tarrabad? No. Tarrabotched? Yes.

    Posted: 30 May 2020 09:33 AM PDT

Tarrabah: Not Tarrabad, but Terrible at Being User-Friendly.

First, some context. Of all the Raid Exotics, Tarrabah has almost certainly been the least impactful on both PvE and PvP of the bunch:

    • Acrius got to shine in Y1 PvP

    • 1K and Anarchy have always been good in PvE and 1K is pretty brutal in PvP when you've got heavy

But Tarrabah is just a worse Recluse, not in that its perk/archetype/etc. isn't potent, but in that doing nearly anything but holding the weapon, shooting the weapon, walking, jumping, or sprinting, will probably lose you your charge built up towards the perk. Charge which doesn't exactly build too quickly, for balancing reasons, which I can understand. However:

Have you or a loved one, while using the "Tarrabah" Exotic...

    ...pulled out your Ghost to check bounty progress/leaderboard/etc.? ;

    ...swapped weapons because you didn't want to be forced to keep your SMG in hand in the face of a potential ranged gunfight? ;

    ...or used your Super?

If so, you or a loved one may have suffered "Perk Failure," and may be entitled to compensation. Contact "Spider and Spider Law" for a free consultation today.

Jokes aside: as the only random drop Raid Exotic I've ever gotten within my first three runs of its Raid, and a big fan of Raid Exotic Primaries since D1, I was so excited to get Tarrabah dropped the 2nd time I did Crown, from (iirc) my only D2 week one Raid thus far no less.

But this detriment to the experience of using it really hurts the gun, and has made it to where I've yet to really have an unhindered good time using it.

The Tarrabah, much like the fictional rat marsupial it's themed around, is a skittish creature of a gun, that gets spooked off if I so much as make a sudden movement, breathe the wrong way, or just try to play the game while using it the same way I can with any other gun not named Tarrabah.

    —————————

So with all this said I guess all I can ask is, u/dmg04, can we get a bit of confirmation that the issues with this weapon are apparent to the team?

I and others just want to see this thing not be irrelevant anymore because of an unfriendly user experience baked into its Exotic perk. With Recluse due to be sunset soon, if this gun begins to occasionally take its place in loadouts, its issues will only be further noticed and bothersome.

    Scatter grenades are still bugged

    Posted: 30 May 2020 06:32 AM PDT

I posted about this last year on another account. But essentially 25% of the time, voidwalker's scatter grenade will bounce and delay detonation. Don't believe me? I set up a macro in a private mayhem game and threw grenades for 30 minutes.

    Then counted all of them.

    https://youtu.be/wi7e-Co_jUs

    Total grenades thrown = 428

    109 / 428 grenades bounced

    25.5467289% of grenades bounced

Edit: I also made a Bungie forum bug report post. Please upvote this to help grab Bungie's attention! https://www.bungie.net/en/Forums/Post/256181372

Just the title really, it's very annoying that you have to add everyone in your clan as a steam friend to see if they're in the game and what they're doing.

We really need to work on the D2 wikis

    Posted: 30 May 2020 05:42 PM PDT

For the sake of the traveler

I'm actually going to start writing simple things into the Destiny 2 wikis. I think it's easy to be complacent and just neglect editing work on the Wikis when you have a million PCgamer and Eurogamer articles all over the place.

I mean, imagine if Minecraft had no descriptive wiki and you had to scrounge hidden information like item ID tags from Gamerinfo.com or whatever or learn about light (brightness) levels by either trial and error or from Newsweek.

Ever since I was new to this game I was always stunned that this game, of all games had a nonexistent wiki community and not just that, 3 different similarly popular ones.

And apparently, the pace which the game's been developing at has outstripped the community's efforts to update the wiki.

Even if I write in simple basic starter information such as... "Legendary Lost Sectors were introduced to Destiny 2 during Season of the Worthy during Rasputin's campaign to stop the Almighty. " (a section which didn't even exist on two wikis I looked at), I think that's a good place to make editing more welcome. The way the wiki is now is that it just looks and feels so hard to make a dent for everyone. But if you go through the effort to get things started with simple texts like these, I think you can get engagement up and it doesn't feel like you're dumping information into an empty void no one's ever going to read. (Also as soon as we decide which wiki we want to use as a community.) as the Wikipedia founder kind of described once, he said something along the lines of there's only fewer than some 10 percent of people you can really consider hardcore contributors, but a large portion of wiki contributions come from the 90 percent of people who just browse occasionally.

Bungie, I'm curious: What do your statistics say about the usage of Blink?

    Posted: 30 May 2020 08:20 AM PDT

I feel like I rarely, if ever, see anyone use Blink, be it in PvP or PvE.

I think I'm the only person I have seen use blink in PvE in months.

I'd like to get Blink back on my Hunter. And can we get some buffs to Blink in general?

What if the pyramid ships showed up on the destinations screen with the new season?

    Posted: 30 May 2020 11:15 AM PDT

This would be really cool to log in, and just see a faint outline of the ships behind Saturn when the new season comes around. Then if it kept inching towards Earth with every week, it would just be a more in your face version of the Seraph Bunker map to go along with how much more in your face their progress would be.

Trials of Osiris Matchmaking bug: matches are based on number of matches played and not how many wins are on your card.

    Posted: 30 May 2020 02:18 PM PDT

Have you ever been playing Trials gotten your butt kicked by a team, and then loaded into your next game and faced the same team that just pubstomped you?

We think we figured out what's going on, based on a few instances. The game isn't matching you based on your wins, it's matching you on what game you're on.

Example: We were running our Mercy Passage, and lost a game at round 4, using our mercy. We loaded back in, and faced a new team, and lost again, no big deal, one loss on the card! We load in again, and faced a team of sweats, and we knew our fate is sealed. We give it our all, and lose again. All we want is the 5 wins reward, so we load in again. 4 wins, 2 losses, and we match the same team of sweats, we're crushed, but we play them again, giving it our all and we lose 4 to 5. We fought hard! Losing sucks, but at the bottom of the screen we noticed something strange when our cards popped as being broken.

The other team had been granted passage to the lighthouse.

Admittedly, I'm not sure if this is intentional, but I was under the impression that you matched with people with the same amount of wins on their card as you.

TL;DR: Matchmaking in trials may be based on matches played; wins AND losses, and not just wins.

Edit: I realize that I hadn't mentioned that this same thing has happened to my team before the one mentioned.

    After 2,336 Hours Playing 2

    Posted: 30 May 2020 06:28 PM PDT

    https://imgur.com/gallery/yF49MOa

So finally after spending a total of 2,336 Hours playing Destiny 2, ive finally achievement a goal i set for myself the first day seals were introduced. This goal felt like it was always a pipe dream because i see myself as a pvp player primarily, and never thought i could do any of the harder raid triumphs. Until this season i had every seal except the raids ones because i wasn't up to date on a lot of the "strats". I was always confident on being able to quickly pick up on any position i was needed to do. Glad i was able to share this, its a great feeling to finally achieve this goal

Swords in PvP should require heavy ammo to go into third-person

    Posted: 30 May 2020 12:36 AM PDT

    Title.

Don't care how exactly it's implemented, but third-person peeking in first-person 'competitive' gamemodes needs to go.

Perhaps the hilt could be initially equipped in first-person, and upon getting heavy ammo, we can transition to third-person?

... or just disable equipping swords until you have heavy ammo. Whatever works.

A list of actually relevant weapons that will be sunset

    Posted: 30 May 2020 08:09 AM PDT

There's a lot of debate currently about guns getting sunset. But what weapons that are relevant in LL-enabled activities are actually getting the boot, and do alternatives exist? This list is intended to cover Trials and higher-level Nightfalls, as well as an unknown new raid that will hopefully come with the fall expansion. This is not an exhaustive list, and I'm not mentioning any guns/archetypes that have plenty of options or just aren't used that much in high-level content. My opinions are of course subjective.
Keep in mind that we still have no idea about new loot for S11 and S12, and what replacements or new toys these will bring.

    KINETIC
    * Spare Rations (Dire Promise, Thorn)
    * Mountaintop (no replacement, other Lightweight GLs fall flat)
    * Revoker (no direct replacement, perk is OP in 3v3 formats)
    * Ether Doctor (only exotic options - Suros Regime, Monte Carlo)
    * Threat Level (Hawthorne's Field Forged, Perfect Paradox)
    * Blast Furnace (Sacred Provenance)

    ENERGY
    * Galliard, Arc Logic, Gnawing Hunger (The Summoner, Hard Light)
    * Recluse (Only off-type - Reckless Oracle, Last Hope, Seventh Seraph SI-2)
    * Mindbender's Ambition (Felwinter's Lie, Prophet of Doom)
    * Waking Vigil, Luna's, NF (Sunshot, Jack Queen King 3)
    * Erentil (Elatha FR4)
    * Last Perdition (Jian 7 Rifle, some downgrade in perks)
    * Twilight Oath (Omniscient Eye, can't roll Box Breathing, more zoom)
    * Beloved (no on-type replacement, have to go 140 or 72 rpm)
    * Ikelos SG (Seventh Seraph CQC-12)

    HEAVY
    * Whirlwind swords (no current replacement)
    * Throne-Cleaver (no current replacement) * Stryker's Surehand (Honor's Edge)
    * Wendigo (Interference VI - slight downgrade if at full orbs, else better, no blinding)
    * Delirium (perk borderline OP, no replacement)
    * Hammerhead (off-type - Seventh Seraph SAW, almost same TTK, harder to control)
    * Play Of The Game (Interference VI, slightly worse perks)

    That's quite a long list!
I've marked weapons in bold that imho have no proper replacement, and weapons in italic where the alternatives are either exotic or off-type.
That leaves us with 8 weapons:
Mountaintop, Revoker, Ether Doctor, Recluse, Twilight Oath, Beloved, Whirlwind Blade swords, Throne-Cleaver and Delirium.

I'll briefly go through them one by one.

Mountaintop will be sorely missed in PvE. It provides a combination of mid range burst & AoE damage as well as long range options against stationary targets. With current archetypes, nothing comes close. Snipers are vulnerable to flich, not great at short-mid range, and provide no AoE. Breech grenade launchers (Militia's) are unreliable at longer ranges and do significantly less damage. This will be a keenly felt loss in many endgame activities.
Revoker I'm somewhat glad to see out. The perk is too strong in low player count PvP. Since no one will have access to it the playing field stays level.
Ether Doctor is not seen that much, even though it's very viable. It currently competes with Suros, Revoker and Hand Cannons for its slot. Suros and Hand Cannons will still be options, so not a great loss overall.

Recluse is definitely not the dominant force it once was. It is still a good gun, and as of now there is no 900 RPM SMG that won't be sunset. However, options in other archetypes exist that do just as well at adclearing, and there's a very good chance 900 RPM SMGs will see releases or reissues in the coming seasons.
Twilight Oath is no longer the dominant energy snipe, but still a good option. Omniscient Eye competes very well with it, but has slightly more zoom and can't onetap supers.
Beloved has no replacement as of now. Its combination of perks and stats made it a dominant option in the energy slot, but the impact of changes announced for snipers makes the future very unclear here. Still, no good replacement as of now.

Whirlwind swords are currently being enabled by two seasonal mods. These probably won't stay, and with them viability in high-level nightfalls will also leave. As of now, the single sword that won't be sunset for S12 cannot roll Whirlwind, but there's a very good chance we'll see more swords over the next two seasons.
Throne-Cleaver is the DPS king. It's not often seen due to being very hard to farm and being locked to Titans. It can provide both more burst and higher sustained DPS, with little downside. Delirium is without peer for its role. In raids, the meta has gone back to heavy for DPS, but Delirium is still the undisputed king of ad clear. No other weapon can singlehandedly handle all mobs that aren't ultras that well, while maintaining good ammo economy. It does not cover as many niches as Mountaintop, but this too will be sorely missed.

The big losses to me are both in PvE.
Especially Mountaintop will be very hard to replace. I'm hopeful something will fill that void, because I don't think it's an OP weapon right now - just a very useful one. Delirium I do consider somewhat OP for its role, but there are (or hopefully will) be more options to replace it.
As for PvP, the loss without hope of replacement is Revoker, and I'm honestly not sorry for it. The perk is unique, but also too strong imo.

I'm still on the fence about sunsetting, but I think the relevant losses we'll see in our arsenal are actually smaller than people think.

    EDIT Incorporated some feedback.

If you are going to make Last Wish and Garden of Salvation the only source of non-sunset gear, then your should probably update their loot pool.

    Posted: 30 May 2020 07:08 AM PDT

You should especially focus on heavy weapons, as Last Wish, only has 1 and GoS doesn't even have one.

Just some positivity for the subreddit

    Posted: 30 May 2020 06:23 PM PDT

Was playing tonight and had a really successful day. Got a god roll Blast Furnace, got off my ass and finished the Thorn quest, and was grinding my Escalation Protocols for the Lumina quest. Ended up completing level 7 about 7 times with a team of 6 randoms; a couple Kinderguardians and a few seemingly higher light level; and I had a little moment to myself. This is what the game is about.

I know this subreddit can be a little toxic sometimes, as can any, but the sense of community in this game is second to none. I've met so many friends playing Destiny 2 and, as flawed as it is, I love it, as does everyone else here.

    Posted: 30 May 2020 08:12 AM PDT

So now that sunsetting is around the corner, and season of the drifter gear will be capped out most players thoughts will go to the weapons. So whats going to happen to the Prime armor? Gambit Prime armor is a serious part of Gambit Prime, and that is how it is separated from normal gambit. So now Gambit Prime armor will be redundant power wise.

Random rolled legendary weapons have never caused power creep and shouldn't be sunset

    Posted: 30 May 2020 05:10 PM PDT

There's never been power creep when it comes to random rolled weapons. If anything random rolled guns have gotten weaker over time.

What's been strong and caused power creep are pinnacles, exotics and subclass abilities (like radiance of well and insta-reloading barriers); there's no need to sunset random rolled weapons because they have never caused power creep.

Some believe Bungie can't keep coming up with interesting random rolled weapons, which I don't necessarily agree with but for the sake of argument let's assume so. Then by definition, even with sunsetting, new weapons will not be more interesting. They are equally interesting to what we already have. So this does not improve player happiness, it decreases it because we have to regrind the same things we already have.

I'd rather have Spare Rations forever, vs having to regrind More Rations and Plenty Rations again and again and pray for viable rolls for what is basically the same gun.

If Bungie can make More Rations uniquely better, even if power-wise it's sideways instead of upwards, then great! We don't need sunsetting because people will try to get this unique attribute!

There is only one valid explanation for sunsetting random rolled gear and that's Bungie wanting us players to spend more time chasing loot, even if we are worse off for it. All in the name and altar of "customer engagement."

"Make players chase loot" should not be the primary objective of this game. The primary objective should be us enjoying great content; loot follows from that and is secondary.

Note, I am in favor of sunsetting pinnacles. In fact I think one year is too long and what would be cool are seasonal pinnacles that are easier to get (to reflect their shorter life) but which Bungie can get really creative with and are thus awesome to use.

But don't sunset random rolled gear. That solves nothing and only decreases player happiness.
