    Trials of Osiris are LIVE

This thread is for all general discussion, questions, thoughts, musings, wonderings, etc. for the Trials of Osiris.

    FAQ

    What is Trials of Osiris?

    • Trials of Osiris is the pinnacle PvP activity. Every Weekend, the best players compete in 3v3 Elimination for one goal: Go Flawless.

    • To start, head to Saint-14 in the Tower Hangar and buy one of the possible passages (see below).

    • To reach Flawless and get to the Lighthouse, you need to win 7 matches without losing one.

    • It uses Win Based Matchmaking, which means you'll face teams with a similar amount of wins on their card. Matches will get harder as you win more matches.

    • There is NO fireteam matchmaking. You need to team up yourself!

    • Power Level matters, however bonus power from the artifact is not enabled.

How Long do the Trials of Osiris last?

    • Event Starts: Every Friday at Daily Reset (1700 UTC).

    • Event Ends: Following Tuesday at Weekly Reset (1700 UTC).

Where do I go to find Guardians to compete with in the Trials?

    • You can head over to /r/Fireteams, www.The100.io, Xbox LFG system, DestinyLFG.net or DestinyLFG.com, or go to the Bungie.net recruitment forum (also available through the Bungie App).

What if I have a question about another piece of armor/weapon or general Trials question?

    • Use Control + F (Or Command + F if on a Mac) and search for keywords in your question. Someone may have asked it already. If they haven't ask right below.

Bungie can we please have "Menagerie Weekends" where we get 5x drops? Update the rune combos with current world loot?

    Posted: 29 May 2020 10:22 AM PDT

    *** EDIT: Okay 5x was a little much. Maybe 3x consistently? ***

    Title.

I think it would keep the activity relevant each season and beyond that, if people are hurting for Legendary Shards outside of hunting a roll of a weapon they want, it would be a good source for mats deleting all the stuff that you don't want / need.

I'm also sitting on a LOT of runes >:(

** Edit 2: Wow this blew up. O.O thank you everyone for the upvotes! Hopefully Bungie sees this and keeps Menagerie relevant going forward in the new seasons and Year 4.

Right now, It feels season pass owners are paying for a premium subscription to a free game.

    Posted: 29 May 2020 05:34 AM PDT

Title. Right now, I feel like I'm paying for a "elite tier" on a MMO that is supposed to be free. Theres almost no content that justifies the 10$ season, we are getting some free emote and cosmetic on a battlepass. The seasonal model feels like Fallout 1st (For Fallout 76) or one of those failed mmo's that had to go free to play but has an optional subscription model for "The Whales."

Edit: Just to adress a lot of comments, yeah, lots of big games do this. But Destiny was, until recently, a buy to play game with mtx in the form of the Eververse. We went from Buy to play with paid expansions ( 2 smaller and one bigger a year) to an Eververse that sells Nightfall loot (Scarlet Keep themed gear), now there is a battlepass, 10$ DLC that goes away, and next seasons there will be more Bright Dust costs regarding transmog. The monetizations aren't "changing", they are being pilled on top of each other. Last year they raked in 300 MILLION dollars in micro transactions. Thats two times what they paid for the entire franchise.

To the people saying "If the season is bad, then dont buy it!". Kinda hard when all the content of a season is spread out for 3 months, so you can only "truly" know if a season is trash when you are in the middle of it, at which point FOMO sets in and you are not really sure if you are going to get your 10$ worth.

Also, thanks for the gold! Didnt expect this to blow up, but here we are. A sloppy kiss to all the people on destiny circle jerk who apparently hate my guts lol

I just got a destiny experience I haven’t had for a long time.

    Posted: 29 May 2020 03:46 PM PDT

So this is the first season I completed my premium pass, I pushed myself because it would be a shame of my money.

Now I had some time to do some actual quests instead of the bounty simulator, I love playing support so I decided to complete the Lumina quest tonight . I had 83% on activities completed with rose (did everything solo, not recommend), after that it all went pretty quick and got matched in good teams on the following quest steps.

Then I finally got it I was so excited. I loaded up a strike, got matched with the most friendly guardians. We where crouching and emoting a lot lol. But most importantly I fell in love with Lumina, the gun looks amazing, the sound is good (even though it's similar to Thorn's, but with good reasons), I can support my teammate and so much more.

And then after my first strike the catalyst dropped.. truly unbelievable. Me and my fellow strike team where crouching the **** out of the spare time we had before we got pulled back to orbit.

This was an amazing evening, I am typing this while dancing with a fellow random guardian in the tower. Whatever happens next season, this community is still one of the best I've ever experienced (until you want some raid gear).

    Thanks for reading!

Is there some kind of secret Leviathan raiders society?

    Posted: 29 May 2020 06:08 PM PDT

I've done two fresh Leviathan runs this week via Xbox One LFG. Both times, the difficulty of the raid felt like it was a strike.

People are just telling me to stay still after encounters and keep saying, "Do not go to the Castellum," as they run through the Underbelly solo, and then I get magically teleported to the next encounter.

I play the runner in the Gauntlet and they're shooting the triangles before I even say anything, and they get it right every time after the first one.

They run through the Pleasure Gardens like they're going on a jog, even though it's supposed to be a stealth-based encounter. They don't even assign people to specific dogs anymore for damage phases; the dogs see us, I blink two times, and all of the dogs are down. Encounter done. Like, what?

I go into the Void Room during the Calus fight, and, apparently, you only need to hear the first set of symbols on Void Calus' head, and after that, you can know which Psions to punch from that point onward.

I ask how they know which Psions to punch and they start talking about "strings", how some dude on reddit took down his post on how it works, and that you don't even need to have people tell you the Calus head symbols if you know what dings to listen for. Oh, they also all have, like, 500+ Leviathan clears.

I am so lost. Isn't the typical LFG Leviathan run supposed to take five hours and end with people getting stuck on dogs?

...They put the twist at the start.

    Posted: 29 May 2020 02:55 PM PDT

The probem with this season's story is...

Ok, enough with the supposedly clever title, let's sink our teeth into the meat: this season's lore with Felwinter and Russia's Greatest War Machine is pretty damn good, but there's a world ending event coming at us that was completely sidelined, which impacted most people's perception of the story, or at least the season. I mean, we're having the bountylimpics, running arounds shooting Red's marbles into space, cool Darkness foreshadowing, while a SUN KILLING MACHINE IS ON A DIRECT COLISSION COURSE WITH EARTH.

I get WHY Bungie did it, people wanted the Alrighty to mean something instead of sitting in space with a timelocked guardian on board (you better conclude his story Bungie, even if it is minor) but the problem is, it was used as a bait and switch, or rather just bait, into Rasputins apology note.

Well, here's the thing, you should have led with that. In fact, IMO, this is how the season should have gone:

    • Trailer shows Ana climbing through an old bunker, firing it up, connecting it to Red's network, map shows up with some strange triangles around Saturn, and finishes with Rasputing saying something along the lines of "Call the Vanguard".

    • Start of season, we see Ana with Zavala, saying something like "Big Red wants to make ammends". The background story of this is, as we find out through the season, that big Red is warning us about the Doritos and wants the Vanguard to trust him.

    • First 3 weeks, bunkers open up, then once they're open, the Lie community quest begins, with a big-ass requirement, something like 7 million on each destination. (Keep in mind, in this timeline the quest started 3 weeks into the season)

    • Fourth Horseman quest pops up, but instead of bounties, we track the Cabal agents who stole it, meanwhile discovering a plot related to the Almighty.

    • Bountympics happen.

    • Trailer with Ana and Zavala pops up, clearing out the Almighty, finding out what's happening. Lie Quest is finished by this point as its closer to the end of the season. We find out about Felwinter, get the shottie.

    • Almighty is now the focus of the final weeks of the season. It gets resolved the way it does in the season, which we're yet to see.

This keeps all parts of the story relevant, while not feeling like any part is left out.

Major loot refreshes are going to be needed, or the vast majority of the game is going to be obsolete.

    Posted: 29 May 2020 09:12 AM PDT

In no particular order, these are activities that will be completely useless to run for gear by S12 unless their loot pools are updated.

    • Leviathan
    • Menagerie
    • Blind Well
    • Escalation Protocol
    • Nightfall Exclusive Loot
    • Gambit Prime
    • Reckoning
    • Scourge of the Past
    • Crown of Sorrow
    • Forges
    • Altars of Sorrow
    • Pit of Heresy
    • Shattered Throne

Let me know if I missed anything, but it seems that the majority of the activities in the game are going to be obsolete. Get used to only playing Strikes, Crucible, and Gambit.

State of Fusion Rifles (CoolGuy video) Basically, fusion rifles got hand-cannoned

    Posted: 29 May 2020 03:30 PM PDT

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CYhJU9NN_iU

I didn't realize the changes were this bad: just like hand cannons, there's basically now one viable archetype of fusion rifle, and its the same one as before.

I hope Bungie stops with this design philosophy of standardizing the range across all archetypes. These changes seriously need to be undone.

Can we make raid loot, you know, raid loot again?

    Posted: 29 May 2020 06:02 AM PDT

TL;DR: Make raid loot similar to D1 with special perks

I haven't been much of a raider in d2, but did do my fair share of raids in D1, and I really enjoyed how the raid weapons and armor worked, having both normal perks and raid/enemy specific perks. While d2 definitely has pretty good looking raid weapons/armor, they just feel like standard, run of the mill legendaries with no sense of identity other than looks. I think a return to the specialized style of raid loot would really incentivize getting that gear.

Bungie could also bring back the weekly rotation of raids and offer adept versions of raid loot where they could retroactively add intrinsic raid/enemy specific perks to older stuff and maybe even some ornaments to the gear. And since raid weapons from forsaken on have random rolls, it would also be a way to grant the older ones random perks as well as escape weapon sunsetting for just a little longer.

While that's just how I would like to see the raid loot change, I'd like to hear how others think about it

Let’s just appreciate this time before we witness what the Darkness really looks like and can never go back

    Posted: 29 May 2020 03:35 PM PDT

I remember watching the Harry Potter movies when I was younger and I was so scared of Voldemort by the third movie, despite having never really seen his real face, his real form yet. We'd seen a distorted face on the back of a man's head, and a cloaked man enter the Potter home and kill Harry's mom. And that's what made him so scary imo. He was this infamous, unprecedentedly evil wizard who threatened all the characters we loved, but we didn't actually know anything about him. But over the course of the later movies, his scariness-factor sort of faded away the more we saw of him, the more of his story we uncovered. Especially his presence felt less intimidating imo.

I could say the same about the smoke monster from the tv series Lost, or Thanos from the MCU. I'm not here to argue how the villains were handled, but they are all examples that we fear what we do not know. Before the story pulled the curtains away and put the villain's story front and center, they all felt like a big black cloud, an ominous force, and we'd only imagine the destruction they could cause. But as their stories were unraveled, imo, they felt less and less like a threat.

That's where we are atm with the Darkness. We don't really know what or who it is. We have vague lore pieces mentioning a Winnower, and I'm sure various other descriptors, but for years now we've only been able to refer to these and to the reports from the Collapse. We don't know what the limits of the Darkness' powers are, we don't know their exact intentions, or their motive, and that's what so cool imo. Bungie might give us small teases the next few days/weeks and into the next season and pull on those fear-of-the-unknown strings, but when the fall expansion arrives, which almost certainly will reveal a lot about the Darkness, the more we'll learn, the less can be left up to imagination. Because as soon as we see what the enemy factions look like, the big bad of the expansion, the hierarchy of the race that is the Darkness/serving the Darkness, their form of communication, their language, their culture, their structures, all of it, as soon as we see that, we can no longer imagine.

So I just want to appreciate this moment. This moment in the dark. Before we see the faces of our biggest enemy yet. Before we learn any more about their plans for us.

Bungie, please don't let Vorpal Weapon become a band-aid perk that's required for any weapon to be useful for boss damage.

    Posted: 29 May 2020 06:52 PM PDT

Vorpal Weapon represents a big problem for Destiny that The Division 2 had for its first year, and that is 'damage to the big/dangerous enemy.' In TD2 it was Damage to Elites, Elites being essentially the Ultra/yellow-bar enemy of Destiny 2. In harder content Elites are much more common (to the point where missions and sections of missions would be composed entirely of Elite units and almost nothing more. The Raid even more-so as it's a rare treat to see something other than an Elite), so in the first year of TD2 it was almost necessary to have that Damage to Elites stat rolled on your armor to get a flat damage bonus. It made grinding for gear incredibly boring because there was just nothing else better to get on your armor than DTE. It got to the point where Massive just removed the stat entirely from the game. What I fear is that Vorpal Weapon becomes a perk like DTE where it's the only option on PvE damage weapons for bosses and large Ultras (Champions are effected by Vorpal too). With Sunsetting happening mainly to stave power creep and to introduce new perks into the loot pool, I fear that weapon and perk balancing will shift completely to Vorpal Weapon being needed on everything for PvE. I suspect that Bungie will begin to rebalance and phase in/out the new and old perks the same way the damage perks like Rampage and Kill Clip have been hit, and how reload perks will be hit this next season.

I really hope that we don't get stuck in a year of needing Vorpal Weapon on any Legendary in order to kill a boss in a certain amount of time. It would just be bringing back the Year 1 single-perk system.

Vorpal Weapon is an interesting perk, but it really should be something different than a flat damage buff to a single enemy type. Bungie already nerfed the Recluse and Magnificent Howl because their perks were rewarding players for what they were already doing. Vorpal Weapon rewards players for simply having it equipped. It's a worse version of the situation that caused two pinnacle perks to be nerfed.

Repetitive is not the same as repeatable

    Posted: 29 May 2020 08:18 AM PDT

For a long time in destiny 1 and early destiny 2 we asked for more repeatable content and a grind. We want repeatable rewarding grinding. Instead we got repetitive boring grind quests often used to force us into unpopular playlists. Obviously this is easier said than done but I feel like Bungo misunderstood this request and mistakes the following for fun/good game content:

    • 200 pvp kills for a catalyst
    • 1000 pve kills for a catalyst
    • 10 gambit prime matches
    • recently 1000 shotgun pve kills or 100 pvp kills
    • 10 public events
    • 1 million collective seraph tower events
    • iron banner quest line
    • and it's usually stuff that is not being played or used so its Bungos way of forcing us to do things most of us already have decided we don't want to do.

Why 1000? Why not just 200 pve kills? That's the difference of using a gun while doing other pve things vs being forced to just cheese it at shuro chi for 30 minutes. Why 10 gambit matches? Why not just 3? That is 150 minutes vs 45 minutes for one part of a quest, and 45 min is already a lot for something you don't want to do.

These numbers are largely picked arbitrarily and are way past the optimal number for fun and in the territory of "oh god just kill me now." Even youtubers who play 20-30 hours a week say they are too long. I used to play 15-20 hours a week and these quests/catalysts were annoying, taking up much of my playing time doing things I don't want and are not fun to just do them. Or being forced to cheese kills through shuro chi which is not fun either. Now I play 1-3 hours a week and these things are insurmountable. I have a choice to either sit down and spend my free time grinding away doing things I don't want to do or squeeze in a few crucible matches i actually want to do.

TLDR: The game quests and catalysts are a repetitive grind but not repeatable or fun. One solution is as simple as decreasing the number requirements.

    Forgotten Exotics - DARCI

    Posted: 29 May 2020 06:52 PM PDT

Hello Guardians. This is the second post of this sort that I've made. You can find more information about what I hope to accomplish with these posts in my Trinity Ghoul edition found here: https://www.reddit.com/r/destiny2/comments/g2rl9n/forgotten_exotics_trinity_ghoul/

Use Case: DARCI is a relic from D2 vanilla and you can absolutely tell. It seems to me that the intended design was as an alternative to whisper. It's perk Target Acquired and its place in the Heavy slot could present a unique opportunity in the higher echelons of the Crucible.

Why it doesn't work: After some not so recent changes, Whisper has both higher DPS and total damage. These changes left DARCI with no place to go. Currently there is no reason to use DARCI because other weapons do its job better.

What can be done: I see 3 solutions here, we can revert it to what it once, was change its slot, or try to make it a more PvP focused option.

Option 1: We can revert it to how it once was by buffing its damage to the previous values. Before the nerf, DARCI was a higher DPS option than whisper, but had lower total damage. This makes it a better option than whisper for short damage phases.

Rationale: This provides more options for players in the PvE sandbox. Everyone loves more options.

Option 2: Move DARCI to the Special slot, and adjust its damage to match other 140rpm snipers. Ideally with Target Acquired allowing you to 1 shot headshot supers in PvP.

Rationale: This would give DARCI more room to breathe because its not competing with so many Exotic heavy options. Additionally it could also provide a nice alternative to Izanagi.

Off the wall completely insane PvP option that I expect 0 traction for: DARCI's Place in the heavy slot combined with its pretty crazy AA while Target Acquired is active presents some very unique opportunities for those in the highest tiers of PvP skill. Give the DARCI Catalyst Snapshot and reduce the zoom on the gun. Boom, you have opened up more PvP Loadout options. For example, SMG, Fusion Rifle, Sniper.

Please discuss what you think would be the best option, or even suggest your own.

Thanks for taking the time to read, and have a wonderful day.

Knowing Y4 is around the corner excites me largely because it means new music.

    Posted: 29 May 2020 01:33 PM PDT

There's something incredibly enchanting about the music of Destiny and how it defines each experience. From Marty O'Donnell's original themes to the outstanding work Michael Salvatori has done, every content release accompanied by a score has given something that's noteworthy.

I knew I was going to love the first game when this was what played me in to the start screen, and every subsequent release created a new atmosphere for what we were going to explore. The low rumble that would eventually build into Oryx's theme was dark and perfectly set the tone for The Taken King; the choral beginning that segued into strings was noble, empowered by the idea of you becoming an Iron Lord.

Destiny 2 has done just as spectacular of a job, because the music has this incredible way of telling the story before you know it and enriching it as you learn it. The songs "Forge Ahead" and "Battle Stations" have play counts in the hundreds in my iTunes because I find myself coming back to them when I need inspirational music. And that brings me to my all-time favorite with songs that set the pace for what's to come: Forsaken. The best way for me to describe just how iconic this theme became for me is the fact that my girlfriend at the time would hum the Forsaken theme idly, despite having never played the game. She'd hum it while cooking, folding laundry, anything. It stuck with her just from hearing it play for only a few seconds whenever I'd start the game three rooms away. It sticks with us all because that's how good Destiny's music is. The Taken King's music was dark but triumphant. Rise of Iron's music was regal and bold. D2's vanilla score possessed a strong undertone of hope. Forsaken's music seamlessly blends from "space western" to "space high fantasy."

This is a very long-winded way of saying, thank you, Bungie, for consistently committing to a strong sound for the universe you've created. I am very eager to hear what comes next.

Can we please have more horror elements like we did in the Beyond mission at the end of shadow keep?

    Posted: 29 May 2020 02:39 PM PDT

Even though the game is currently going through a lot of strife right now I always find myself going back to replay the beyond mission just because of the feeling. I like how they emphasized the futility of our guardian being completely outclassed by the presence of the pyrimad and it's nightmares and we're just at the whim of the pyrimad when it pulls us in. I think bungie executed the feeling of dread really well with that first moment of being dragged inside and if we could have more moments like that it would be amazing.

Just the feeling of being in a completely alien and threatening environment mixed with the lore of how these pyrimads obliterated humanity at its peak is just so substantial and only exemplifies the stakes of future content. Personally the only two moments in Destiny's history where the feelings of confusion and fear are really pushed to the front rather than the usual triumphant comeback (excluding Forsaken because Cayde dies so it's not that triumphant) of most dlc content is Oryx's entrance in the Taken King and the Beyond mission in Shadow Keep.

Seriously it's really cool to see how our guardians even as immortal god like entities can still feel fear in the presence of something so unknown and powerful. I really think just adding more elements of fear and horror only help the story and with the rumors of year 4's possible content this would only help push the narrative. Moments like that only help reveal the futility and the dire circumstances humanity is in. It helps us realize that the last city is the only remnant of humanity left and that there are only so many guardians around who could possibly fight the darkness and that some might not even care enough to side with the traveler to fight against it (ie. the kentarch 3 and the circle). It's just all around really cool and I hope they keep bringing in moments like that.
