This week at Bungie, we look to the sky.

Ever since this Season began, the Almighty has been hurtling through space on its collision course with Earth. The Cabal are not known for their graceful defeats. Every day we spend preparing our long lost Seraph to mount a response, that derelict destroyer rockets ever closer to our home, spelling certain doom for the City.

Rasputin is at full power. We're as ready as we'll ever be. Now, eclipsing our own sun is a stark reminder that a great threat approaches. Eyes up!

    What's Next?

Destiny has been a shared pastime for long enough now to have established some strong traditions. Each year we spend in service of the Guardians, we can mark our calendars by the next development milestone we'll reach or the next event we'll attend to spread the news. Some of us have had the remarkable privilege to travel the world and meet some of you fine people to talk about what comes next.

This year finds us all in a scenario that puts us all very far away from business as usual. Basically, all flights originating from our Tower are grounded. Development of Destiny 2 continues, only we are all working from the safety of our homes. We have exciting news to share with you about our plans, but it won't happen at some fancy convention under hot lights. Instead, we'll use the Internet.

If you are familiar with the rituals and cycles that mark a year in the life of a Guardian, you must be curious as to when we'll begin a conversation about what is next. We can't put a date on that just yet, but we will very soon. That's a promise. We know you're hungry for that news and we're just as eager to deliver it.

Keep your eyes trained on @Bungie for updates. We'll stream our announcements in the usual places. You'll learn about the next Season of Destiny 2 at the same time that we talk about the next chapter in this story that has been unfolding all year long.

    Diving Deep

In recent editions of "This Week At Bungie," we've taken the cue directly from the community on what we should talk about. Our attention has been focused on your feedback. Our words have pointed toward what we plan to do to bring the game into alignment with what you've been talking about. With a summary of what we've promised and some updates on our progress, here is Production Director Justin Truman.

    Justin: Hey everybody.

Five weeks ago, we promised a series of deep dives on the state of Destiny, and how we plan to change it in Season 11 and Year 4.

We enlisted seven members of the Destiny Team to provide as much detail as we could, and I'd encourage you to go back and read any of the topics you may have missed:

We covered a lot of ground, and while we are going to continue to provide updates each week to topics you care about, we want to shift our focus in the coming weeks.

We've said a lot about changes coming in Year 4, but we haven't talked about how Year 4 begins. Very soon, we'll do just that.

I kicked off this series of deep dives with some promises, but I want to end the series on a more personal note. Being unable to go to the office, trying to figure out how to keep building this game we love from our laptops and our couches has had me thinking a lot about commitment.

Videogame development is messy. Evolving Destiny 2 in an open, transparent way involves showing (and shipping) plenty of missteps along with the improvements. But it continues to be worth it, every step of the way, because I can honestly say this is the most welcoming, most passionate community of players I have encountered, in any game.

We're committed to this game, to staying transparent about our plans, and to this relationship we have with our community. The reasons we started on this journey 10 years ago haven't changed. We're committed to building a world anyone can be a part of, where everyone can feel powerful, and where you might reconnect with old friends or make some new ones.

So we look forward to continuing this conversation, and continuing to evolve Destiny together. And in 12 days, we can't wait to show you more of what we've been working on.

    Stay safe out there, Guardians.

You know that old question about the tree that falls in the forest when there is no one around to hear it? The Movie of the Week is our answer. If a Guardian fires their favorite Exotic weapon, and it didn't make it into a montage, did it make a sound? Here are some of the finest existential moments we discovered during our online wanderings this week.

Movie of the Week: Bunker Rave

The filmmakers have received the most storied emblem as evidence that Bungie is their number one fan. If you want your work to reach our eyes, your best venue is our Creations page.

Don't call it a TWAB. I've been here for years.

Sure, @A_dmg04 and @Cozmo23 own this beat, but I wanted to take a shift. I'd love to be dusting off my travel luggage right about now. I'll miss seeing your faces and making new connections out there in the world. That will happen again. For now, the traditions that shape what makes a Guardian a Guardian, year after year, must be obeyed. We'll be firing all our cannons very soon.

We hope you'll be around to enjoy the fireworks.

    DeeJ, out.

I just released Ghost, an overlay for Destiny 2 that shows your bounties, quests, and triumphs as you play on PC. I hope you like it.

    Posted: 28 May 2020 03:03 PM PDT

Hi, a while back I made Destiny Sets, but today I've just released an app that I've been working on for the past month, Ghost. You can read more and download it from ghostoverlay.com

    https://i.imgur.com/9NZF2Le.png

It's a widget for the Xbox Game Bar on Windows, so you can bring it up at any time with Win + G. Then you can pin it to your screen, and It'll stay floating over the top as you play Destiny 2.

Ghost lets you pin bounties, triumphs, and quests on top of Destiny 2 so you can track them while you play. It uses the Windows Xbox Game Bar and Destiny API, so its totally legit and safe.

I've been playing with this for a bit, and it's really nice. I'll go into Crucible, or Gambit, or Alters of Sorrow with a bunch of bounties and its really satisfying to see each one complete.

This has been a love affair of mine over the past month or so, and I'm so happy everyone can download it now for free! ❤

Huge shout out to /u/kapowaz who made me my icons (and hand crafted each size to make them crispy as), and to ALLLL my patrons who've supported me while I work on this.

Give it a try and tell me what you think :)

In response to "How to Bungie", I give you "How to Community"

    Posted: 28 May 2020 09:54 AM PDT

    As seen in THIS POST

    1) Read Reddit, watch YouTube, and use the gun you're told is powerful

    2) Build attachment to gun and overuse it

    3) Cry when Bungie nerfs gun in a loot-based game that has stalled loot progression

    4) Rush back to playing Destiny and buy the Eververse cosmetic when Bungie reprises that gun

    5) Cry that Bungie uses tactics that keep you playing the game while selling you things that you always buy

    How to Bungie

    Posted: 28 May 2020 03:06 AM PDT

    1) Introduce gun that becomes wildly sought after and used by players.

    2) Nerf said gun.

    3) Nerf gun again.

    4) Retire gun.

    5) Introduce said gun in later expansion in a nostalgic filled quest.

    Buff all Primaries

    Posted: 28 May 2020 06:06 AM PDT

One thing that I REALLY REALLY want from D1 is primary weapon damage, I want to use other perks besides reload/damage combos on my hand cannons. I wouldn't mind only have 7 in the mag and a slow reload if I knew those 7 shots could take out 7 adds. 110 Hand cannons are so much fun to use but they just don't seem like they do enough damage to warrant the slow reload/recoil/bloom.

Destiny 2 is a very pretty game when it wants to be.

First thing I get after acquiring Felwinter when I return to Orbit is an ad for the Ornament in Eververse. I think that says all about Bungie's mindset and strategy right now.

I feel like all High Impact Frames aka. "Slow shoot, big damage boys" should have high caliber rounds built into them.

    Posted: 28 May 2020 05:11 PM PDT

Title. I mean they do read "Slow-firing. High-damage..." or "High damage, High recoil." But they should have and cause "High flinch."

They need compensation for shooting slow and I think this would help put them on the table.

Just a thought I had after seeing the buff to 340 RPM Pulses in the crucible next season.

How has Trinity Ghoul been dog shit for so long

    Posted: 28 May 2020 06:01 PM PDT

Bungie has to know the potato state this bow is in right? Tons of people on forums and on here have voiced the uselessness of TG.

They've had multiple patches they could have touched it by now and still haven't. Bows as a whole need to be looked at, but TG imo has gotta be top 3 worst exotics in this game if not the worst.

My Warlock has developed an addiction...

    Posted: 28 May 2020 06:28 AM PDT

I just can't stop her from getting into her grenade stash and eating them!!!

My Titan tried sharing his Crayons and she refused them. My Hunter brought some Salt (Invader flavor), but no, she rejects them all.

Grenades are all she cares about, all she eats, all she breathes. I try running other builds with her, but it's no use. She always ends up relapsing back, and worse everytime.

Running stormcaller? She brings her Getaway Artists, doesn't matter which attunments. As soon as she can she eats a grenade, pukes out an Arc Bro on the middle of battle, then carries on as if she has not a care in the world, letting her little Arc Buddy shoot everything that moves while she trips out on ArcBolt grenades and rocks herself to sleep sitting in the middle of a rift in the fetal position waiting for her next handfull of lightning to choke down.

Dawnblade? Things just keep getting worse...Top tree is just an excuse for her stay high. Sometimes when we go into the crucible she refuses to touch the ground...refuses to come down. Just inhales one grenade after the other....and then theres the set of Sunbracers that Xur gave her... I've watched my Guardian snap the neck of an oncomming Titan JUST so she get her next solar hit.

Voidwalker? Well...this is where it all started...with Devour....Devour, Devour, Devour. For a long time it was all she cared about. Every ball of purple black void energy she jammed down her gullet brought with it the EUPHORIA of Devour.....and that was just that gateway.

Things are getting worse now...now she has found that she can share them. From her Well of Radiance my guardian now FEEDS her allies... Wearing an old, tattered, Starfire Protocol she's getting others hooked. Titans and hunters stick close to her now for those "Healing" Grenades she throws out left, right, and center. Even other Warlocks keep asking her for some of those "White Light" bumps to make them "Feel better". Given the right situation she doesn't take the safety off her weapons. Titans and hunters have guns too, and if she just keeps them hooked on her light then they seem perfectly content to kill absolutely everything that moves so long as my Warlock keeps "The good stuff" on hand.

I don't know what to do about this anymore fellow Guardians...I just don't know...

Edit: I would like to thank the Guardian who left this gold here for me. It is my first time holding one of these and I am deeply greatful.

Edit #2: This post now has a Seal! His name is Rockto. Please, avoid feeding him grenades of any kind.

As a new player, I don't understand why raids don't have better loot than other activities.

    Posted: 28 May 2020 04:47 AM PDT

So I recently started playing this game, and for the most part I am really enjoying myself. The game is without a doubt very impressive. I especially love the raids, dungeons and strikes.

However, having started raiding, it is very confusing to me why raids have barely any exotics at all, when you can get exotics from very very easy quests. Usually in mmos, raids offer the best loot in the game, because they are usually the hardest content and requires a lot of setup to even attempt.

I also feel like more people would raid, if raids were the only way to get most exotics.

The complete list of weapons being retired (season per season)

    Posted: 28 May 2020 10:05 AM PDT

I've seen plenty of posts arguing for or against gear retirement, but I couldn't find an actual list of when my favorite weapons will be sunset.

So I went ahead and built a somewhat complete list including all Pinnacles, Rituals, most popular weapons (based on usage on PVP and PVE), and groups based on sources.

Turn Pinnacles into Exotics, and just retire the legendary versions

    Posted: 28 May 2020 01:21 AM PDT

Title. Most are only OP because they have the strength of an Exotic weapon without the limitation of only one being equipped at a time, MTop and Recluse specifically. Those are the two weapons that I struggle to find no need for an exotic to be in my loadout because they basically are exotics without the yellow. It's not like the others would need much adjustment to become exotics.

No real change to Recluse, MountainTop, Wendigo, and 21% Delirium.

Adjust(Not necessarily nerf or buff, just tune to be a proper exotic) Revoker, Breakneck, and Loaded Question.

Buff the ever living hell outta Oxygen SR3, just combine Mega-whatever and dragonfly into one.

Revert the Not Forgotten nerf, keep the Lunas Howl one(or just slightly buff the thing). Have Lunas be the stepping stone gun much like Rose is to Lumina.

Unless I'm blind, I didn't find a post suggesting this. Although I'm sure the idea isn't original, figured it's a good time to bring it up all things considered

The destiny community seems to have an issue choosing between wanting a power fantasy vs wanting a challenge.

    Posted: 28 May 2020 01:02 PM PDT

Before I go into the bulk of the post I a of two opinions.

One being that neither difficulty nor a power fantasy in a game are mutually elusive.

Two being that I mean so as a group, please do not comment saying how you just prefer one or the other. I'm not saying you don't, I'm saying I see both often desired across multiple community posts and often conflicting with one another.

One issue is the obsession I sometimes see with permanently challenging content, or the desire for it. Unless a game is specifically designed to be inconsistent, no content will remain 'challenging' one players do it 50+ times and work out a repeatable strategy.

I think expecting or asking for content that will 'remain' challenging for months at a time is not realistic.

HOWEVER, challenge is an important part of destiny and I believe can coexist in addition to the power fantasy. This is where destiny's gear and light systems excel. You can have content that is challenging at first, but as players practice more and more and get better gear, better builds etc destiny is at its best when it then adepts the activity may become 'easy' or at the very least not too difficult.

Destiny is at its' best when it embraces content that is challenging for a time AND embraces the longer turn power fantasy

So I was watching Back to the Future for the first time in a while and when Marty said, "This is a blues riff in B. Watch me for the changes, and try to keep up," I felt serious deja vu. I thought to myself, where have I possibly heard that and then like 1 minute later I figured out that Cayde said something very similar. "This is a Cayde riff in 6. Watch me for the changes, and uh try to keep up." I think it is pretty cool that Bungie put a Back to the Future reference in the game and I completely went over my head originally.

When the Pyramid ships arrive, I want to feel nearly powerless and utterly afraid.

    Posted: 28 May 2020 03:10 PM PDT

With the direction bungie started to take in Shadowkeep with the concept of the pyramids being this terrifying and seemingly unbeatable force, it would be nice for once for us guardians to lose. I'm not talking the Red War, I'm talking bigger, impacting the game as a whole, leaving us with little to nothing by the end of the main campaign. It'd be such a cool experience if the new end game became us trying to retake ground in the system, such as the other enemy factions, like the vex transforming planetoids into one of their machines or the fallen gaining footholds all over the Earth, all while the pyramids are hunting us guardians down, cutting down our numbers drastically, making each encounter with them a high stakes, stress filled experience. I want to band together with my fellow guardians and retake what was once ours, or even establish new territory, safe from the influence of the pyramids. By no means do I expect bungie to actually go exactly in this direction, but even if just one of these aspects is present in the next fall expansion, then I'll be extremely satisfied. The only thing I don't want to see is that the enemy within the pyramids be treated like any other enemy faction, they need to be more intimidating and frightening.

Destiny Strikes: An examination of what makes D1 strikes more engaging than D2

    Posted: 28 May 2020 03:40 AM PDT

Final Edit/PS: Thank you all for responding to this discussion! I've just about managed to respond to most of everyone's thoughts, and you've made very good points about this topic. I've gotten some pretty good ideas from reading your comments. I feel like I could have done a much more thorough job on this post and I'll be writing a second version that's more complete within the coming week or two. I plan to rewatch gameplay of Destiny 1 strikes to remind myself of the finer details (While I have Destiny 1, I've become rusty on console and I don't have Xbox Live) and play through more Destiny 2 strikes. Thank you all again!
I would love to hear your thoughts on this, even if it's a short comment on it. This post was originally going to be about 5x as long and focus on multiple broad topics, but I'd like to start by just focusing on one piece of Destiny: the heroic strikes playlist. This will indeed include the obligatory D1 vs. D2 comparisons of this Reddit.TL;DR Heroic Strikes should be at least as difficult as the ordeal strikes, but without champions and the bosses need more health and damage

    1. The overall difficulty of a strike in D2 is trivial. Rather than ever being something engaging, most players are just begging for it to be over sooner as they sprint past rooms and melt bosses
    2. Lets take a look at the pre-boss strike parts first: In Destiny 2, these are extremely unenguaging. I think this has to do with the overall damage levels of the game and the lack of restricted areas. Rather than fearing for your life as enemies march towards you and pin you behind cover, a player will melt all of them so fast that there is little time for their meager damage to do anything. The mid-strike mini bosses are as laughable as the end-strike ones, and the player never feels like they may lose
    3. The same is true when we move on to the final bosses. Excluding immunity phases, it will take the average blueberry team about 10-20 seconds to reduce the boss to glimmer and engrams. This is so far beyond not okay that it should almost be obvious why. When a player kills a boss so quickly, they never experience the actual fight itself. Most of the bosses in Destiny 2 actually have a pretty decent move set and fight, but they die so quickly/do so little damage that players never really experience them.

In Destiny 1, the strike bosses had much more health than their D2 counterparts, such that you sometimes couldn't kill them with just the ammo in reserves. This required you to be in the fight for longer, and you therefore needed to learn how to deal with the boss attacks and the adds that spawn. Couple this with the fact that bosses dealt much more damage on average, and you end up having an actual risk of failing the strike if you were not adept at dealing with the boss attacks.

The best boss to use to highlight this fact would be The Warden's Servitor. It's move set is quite challenging if you are in the fight long enough to deal with the solar flare attack. To survive the solar flares, you need to make good use of cover while also battling the enemies that still come after you. The only problem? I've been in very few instances of this strike where we didn't melt the boss faster than they could use their special attack. This is a case where the strike would be so much better if the boss just had more health, and I strongly urge Bungie to make this simple change if a developer is reading this.

-Edit 1: I highly recommend reading the threads below, because people make some good points and I'm trying to respond to them all-Edit 2: I didn't expect this many responses. I'll try to respond to them all :)-Edit 3: I will just recommend reading some of the threads below again, because they really do a nice job of covering the details that were left out in the main post.-Edit 4: Yeah, there are enough details in the comments here that I'm probably going to make a second post just to attempt to summarize them.

Is Bungie really going to sunset Not Forgotten? The hardest to acquire and most prestigious weapon in the game?

Title says it all. Just baffles me. I spent a ridiculous amount of time going for Not Forgotten. It's not even OP right now or anything.

Opinion: D2 Needs an archetypal replacement for Mountaintop upon its retirement

Handheld GL are fantastic guns, and MT was one of the few truly unique legendary kinetic special weapons. Maybe it's time for handheld rocket launchers-- an archetype to let the wider playerbase experience what makes Mountaintop so fun and unique to use.

Other pinnacles, I'll miss them, sure, but it's the total uniqueness of the way MT works that I'd like to see commoditized.

There's still a bit before it gets sunset but the poor thing never got to exist in the first place. Figured I would send my condolences its way early. Poor shooty boi never even got to live.

These poor Exotics have been in the game since Vanilla D2 and still don't have an ornament for them

PeaceKeepers, Mechaneer's Tricksleeves, Lucky Raspberry, Starfire Protocol

No real point to this post. Just thought it was kinda interesting that they have been in the game for almost 3 years and they still don't have ornaments.
