    Hello Guardians,

Focused Feedback is where we take the week to focus on a 'Hot Topic' discussed extensively around the Tower.

We do this in order to consolidate Feedback, to get out all your ideas and issues surrounding the topic in one place for discussion and a source of feedback to the Vanguard.

This Thread will be active until next week when a new topic is chosen for discussion

Whilst Focused Feedback is active, ALL posts regarding 'Prophecy Season 11 Dungeon' following its posting will be removed and re-directed to this thread. Exceptions to this rule are as follows: New information / developments, Guides and general questions

Any and all Feedback on the topic is welcome.

Regular Sub rules apply so please try to keep the conversation on the topic of the thread and keep it civil between contrasting ideas

A Wiki page - Focused Feedback - has also been created for the Sub as an archive for these topics going forward so they can be looked at by whoever may be interested or just a way to look through previous hot topics of the sub as time goes on.

Vaulting content, and how it affects the development cycle in a positive way

    Posted: 22 Jun 2020 02:01 PM PDT

Almost every single day, I've been seeing posts about how various pieces of content should not be sunset and just need improvements. I just wrote out some thoughts in a comment on a post, but honestly, it deserves a post of it's own and to be seen by more people.

Please bare in mind; I have no affiliation with Bungie, and I am just someone who's been involved in development cycles for nigh on a decade and have seen stuff like this happen before. I'm also not saying that Bungie is going to do what I say, or even pretending that I know their exact plans - I'm just simply stating that vaulting is not necessarily the BIG BAD that people are making it out to be.

With all that said, let's get to the meat of this.

The current development of Destiny, as we all know, is a little troubled. The engine is what it is, and every time a new version is released for testing, it has to recompile. From the most recent ViDoc, a quick paraphrase - it takes days to compile the new build before it can even be tested.

Now that's bad - everyone knows that. But from a developer perspective, recompiling is actually something that's far more common that you might think. It's not just a recompile once everything is done (I wish!). Usually, as a developer, you'd recompile your code several times throughout building a piece of code to make sure that it's doing what you want it to do, and you haven't made a spelling mistake or misused something in some way - it's better to catch it early, because then you know where the problem is and you can fix it before it gets lost. That's not an option with Destiny as it takes days to recompile everything.

In regards to what this means in terms of vaulting locations, the obvious benefit is this: it will take hours to recompile, not days. This means that they can work on it for a day, let it recompile overnight and find the bugs in the morning. This is huge.

However, that still begs the question that people are asking: "Why remove locations when we can just update them?"

There's a second benefit which is far more removed from the users (you and I) that's not being discussed simply because it's a dev thing.

The most recent post I read was how Titan is beautiful and it's just in need of a facelift; that people don't go there because there's nothing to do. I agree with this. But here's where I agree with the Bungie approach, and what the Vault gives that isn't being talked about.

Let's imagine September; everything that was going to be removed has been. Luke Smith gives one of his teams a task: go away and rebuild Titan from the ground up - add more activities, change up the location a bit, add some new enemies, resource nodes, whatever else. Make it a good place to play.

Now, because Titan is not in the game any more, here's what can happen: said team spins up a new virtual machine and gets the Destiny game engine running on it. They bring Titan - and only Titan - in to the engine. No other locations or modes, just Titan and it's associated activities with whatever overhead that incurs. Now, if we think about how the game is going to look in terms of load in September, and take Bungie's "recompiles in hours" as truth, we can imagine that Titan might take an hour tops to recompile each time it's needed. There's nothing else to recompile, so they can make changes and recompile it several times a day to test their changes. All of this because there's only Titan on the engine.

Now, of course, you'd be remiss not to think "But they could do that now, right?". Sort of, but not really. Right now, they're bound by the currently running version of the game; the changes they make will make it in to the build so if they break something severely, they have to fix it before the next patch because it's a part of the game. Not only this, but the engine is being updated constantly: weapon balancing, reward structuring, vendor actions/activities, economies, strikes, exotic quests, UI, everything. So every change that's made to the engine has to be considered and fixed whilst they're updating Titan live. This brings its own problems and severely slows down the dev process.

With the new way of doing things, here's what would happen instead.

The team that's building doesn't touch the engine whatsoever. They leave it on whatever version it's running when they built the engine in their new environment and don't care what the team is building out - they build out the activities and the location and so on. When it's in a good place, they review all the engine changes that have happened since - fix what they can and then do a bulk import of troubleshooting the issues with every change all at once - not one troubleshooting every week when the engine has changed and caused an issue. In addition - most of these engine issues will already be fixed in the engine, or the fix will be known as it'll have been made for the other, still existing locations, so it's a much faster process. What you get is a bulk import of a location, and one or two bulk fix passes and the location is like brand new.

Essentially, if this is how everything operates, the vaulted planets will be treated like DLC locations, and this means very good things for the locations that are going to disappear. They're not necessarily gone forever, and if and when they return, they'll be much, much better.

This got longer than I thought, so I'll can it there, but I wanted to give the other side of this.

A message for all those struggling with mental health issues: it’s ok to ask for help, but assholes do exist.

    Posted: 22 Jun 2020 01:52 PM PDT

I have seen a lot of posts over the last few months from people who are solo players just wanting to have a fireteam to do activities with, but are prevented by anxiety and other challenges. As someone who has Bipolar Disorder, has struggled with addiction (on many levels), and has a daughter with autism—making friends on any medium can be difficult.

My problem with connecting with people is always fear. I'm like a Titan afraid to leave his bubble. I like my own private and comfortable space. Like the D1 Hunter gauntlets "Don't Touch Me". I was always afraid of letting people in. It wasn't until after The Taken King that I finally wanted to do a nightfall that I bit the bullet and asked for help. He agreed and we've been really close ever since.

He introduced me to his circle of friends and our circle has expanded slowly ever since. We are all ages, races, and backgrounds. I consider myself really lucky for what I have gained from this game. The real loot for me occurs over the headset. Say what you want about the game's flaws, but in a way the game has its own humanity—it is as just as imperfect as we are.

If anyone ever asked me how to connect with others, I would say to just ask for help. Granted, there are assholes out there, but there are also great people out there. I like to believe there are more of the latter. I have been around people who have told me to get cancer, and others who ask me how my daughter and wife are doing online.

If you're struggling to reach out, you're not alone. Pain in life is inevitable but a lot of times the suffering is optional. This is all harder than it sounds, but if I can do it—anyone can. I know at least Shaxx believes in me despite my shitty KD.

Stay safe Guardians and be well.

Lets talk Hive economics, and why they are an agricultural society

    Posted: 22 Jun 2020 05:26 PM PDT

The "economy" of the hive can be best described as the circulation of tribute through the hive. Tribute is the only thing, as far as we are aware, that the hive need to survive. It can be used to create any commodity the hive wish, such as swords and armor and magic, through a hive forcing their worm to do so. It is in this sense that for the hive, tribute is synonymous with value. The hive do not trade to acquire their goods, so the subjective views of other hive, and thus the laws of supply and demand, do not apply to hive society. The cost of an item is what one needs to take it.

Tribute is acquired through the act of killing. The hive's worm feeds on the death of the lifeform, which was too weak to defend itself, and converts it into tribute. Some of said tribute is taken by a more powerful Hive who acts as the hive's superior. The process repeats for the superior Hive's superior. This process continues until some tribute reaches one of the two Hive gods, creating the tythe system. This system can be compared to the feudal system of middle ages Europe, or (to an extent) the warlord system of dark age Russia. The primary difference being that the "lords" of the Hive tythe system also generate tribute themselves.

Tribute is always spent, consumed by the Hive worms, meaning that the introduction of new tribute into the system is always necessary. When one thinks of this, they first think of the Hive crusades, where they slaughter a species and harvest their tribute. However, this is not a constant occurence, and the Hive will go dormant at times. The Hidden Swarm and the Spawn of Crota both did this on Luna. After the Great Disaster, when a dispute outside of the system cost Crota a large sum of tribute, they recessed on the moon for centuries. The Grasp of Nokris did something similar in the glaciers of Hellas Basin. How can the hive achieve this without starvation?

One possibility is for the Hive to harvest thrall like pigs. To create more tribute in the mean time, a broodmother creates thrall, most of which are killed, effectively "feeding" the hive. However, this is not sustainable. For a broodmother to create thrall, it stands to reason that it would need tribute. Otherwise, how can the thrall have tribute to harvest? This means that creating thrall does not add any tribute to the Hive economy. So, if the Hive are not gaining tribute from killing other species, and not from killing eachother, then how are they surviving?

ITS THE MOLD. The seemingly pointless mold that grows on every hive fortress, ship, or captured structure is the only way for new tribute to enter the system. The alien moths and spiders found among the mold must be where new tribute comes from. The mold grows, seemingly through photosynthesis, and the insects use this to create an ecosystem. This ecosystem is then consumed by thrall, who gain tribute from killing them. Thrall can be observed doing this, especially in Destiny 1, where they can be seen eating off of the floor. It stands to reason that, in times of dormancy for the Hive, they effectively become an agricultural society, where all value is generated by the cultivation of and harvesting of life.

TL;DR the weird mold and insects found in hive structures are a form of livestock. Thrall eat them for tribute when there is nothing to kill.

Time Spent Preparing to Play is Absurd

    Posted: 22 Jun 2020 03:48 AM PDT

Does anyone else spend more time getting ready to play than they do actually playing the game? Here's how my typical D2 session goes.

Wait for game to load and log in

    Go to Tower

    Grab bounties from various vendors

Switch weapons based on bounties and game mode

Play a game mode until bounties and weekly goal completed

Get kicked with various errors now and then

    Go to Tower

Delete blues on the way, careful not to delete blues that are highest power gear

Go to Postmaster, delete blues, careful not to delete blues that are highest power gear

Go to Rahool, decrypt Prime engrams

Go to Postmaster and collect decrypted stuff because never enough space

Go to Prismatic Recaster and Decrypter, choose focus engrams, decrypt Umbral engrams

Go to Postmaster and collect decrpted stuff because you ran out of space again

Go to upgrade your favorite gear to higher power, run out of Upgrade Modules

Go to Gunsmith, purchase more Upgrade Modules

Go to upgrade your favorite gear to higher power, run out of Glimmer

    Go to Tangled Shore

    Go to Spider

    Purchase Glimmer

    Upgrade gear

I hope Bungie implements some QoL changes to fix some of this. I know the vendor or bounty screen is coming to the Director in Season 13 (if we're lucky), which will help, but we need a better way to purchase and trade materials and Glimmer and such. Why not have it so when I go to upgrade gear and don't have any modules to allow me to purchase them from there?

Edit: Well this blew up a little. It's sort of a polarising subject. Some agree it's a bit much, some don't seem as affected. I will add that using DIM and Ishtar are very helpful, but are like bandaids on a broken pinky toe (which coincidentally I managed to break mine yesterday).

I should probably stress that I love this game, been playing since D1Y1 and will continue to play through Lightfall. Often people will misconstrue a rant or bringing up a common issue as hating the game, or just complaining. It's more that issues like these need to be addressed every now and then or they build up like gingivitis and broken teeth (which coincidentally I got 3 filings and a clean yesterday too).

I expect many of these issues will be alleviated somewhat when next gen consoles come, simply due to less loading times and the menus being more responsive. But it's more than that, it's the constant shift in loadouts based on elemental affinities, bounties, game mode, champions etc... and I get that's not a problem for everyone, some will just run their Jotuun and same armor no matter what they do.

Bungie, keep the Armor Anti-Champion Mods.

    Posted: 22 Jun 2020 07:05 AM PDT

If nothing else is conveyed by this post at least let me say this: It (meaning the "Unstoppable Pulse" Armor mod) feels great.

Unstoppable Rounds on Exotic Pulses? Sign me the hell up. Please, if nothing else, at least keep this one going into next season. I got to use Outbreak in a Nightmare hunt and actually feel like I was doing something. I'm going to spam No Time to Explain when Beyond Light drops, and I would love to be able to do the same thing again in the next season.

I understand that there's a deeper issue here; you don't want people being able to "double up" against Champions. I highly suspect your only reasoning for applying it to Pulse Rifles is because they're so inoffensive as far as weapons go. Having an "Unstoppable Hand Cannon" armor mod would result in people getting wise to shit like running Eriana's Vow with both Unstoppable Rounds active and also using Anti-Barrier at the same time, which eliminates the need for using a different weapon altogether.

My feelings on that? Just let us. Dual-use cases for champion weapons opens up more options for us to use weapons we like in our loadouts. I personally miss Anti-Barrier Scout Rifles, they're my favorite weapon type in the game and I hate seeing them in such a useless spot.

Overall, it's a strong mod for good reasons. Vigilance Wing, Outbreak Perfected, and hopefully next season, No Time To Explain having a place to be used in high level content is a lot more useful.

I don't know the common consensus on these mods, but I love the concept. It should absolutely be expanded upon.

A take on SBMM from a tryhard -- not what you think

    Posted: 22 Jun 2020 08:12 PM PDT

I just want to give a perspective on SBMM from someone who used to be in one of those try hard clans. You know, the clans full of stat farmers and people who are seemingly terrified to go into QP alone? Yeah. That was me. I don't want to out myself too much, so a throwaway here, but I'm a top 1%er, with flawless/unbroken, 2.5+ overall K/D, etc.

I've shuffled around try hard clans pretty frequently -- but I wanted to give a little insight into what it's like to be in one of those 6-stacks, because people always say "but I want to play with my friends!" as a defense for stacking, but honestly, I've *never seen that*. I've been in stacks with a lot of the top elo players; scrolling through the top elo for QP playlists on guardian.gg is like remembering all the people I used to play with.

So inside the vast majority of those stacks?

    1. They aren't friends -- they don't know each other and don't care to. Hell, most of the time people aren't even in voice chat.
    2. They aren't there to "try out new loadouts," or any of that other mumbo jumbo people say about why they don't want SBMM. Most of them are using weapons they have multiple thousands of kills on. The weapons I used in those stacks had upwards of 10k kills on them.

They're there to pubstomp. And they want SBMM gone because it's easier to pubstomp. So don't believe the excuses. Truly. I have seen the inside of this world and it's a dark place where people stack QP and don't even have fun doing it.

So until Bungie comes to its senses and makes stacks match stacks, how can you fix it? Just back out. With the way that matchmaking is now, a 3 stack of actual good players will absolutely dominate a lobby, but you don't have to give them the satisfaction. Nothing is more miserable to a stat farmer than running around getting no kills because there are only a few people on the other team.

If the community just backs out against stacks reliably, they'll stop.

Make sure to remove "vaulted" destination perks from Ghost drops after Beyond Light comes out please!!

    Posted: 22 Jun 2020 02:48 PM PDT

I don't know if Bungie already discussed this... I Pre-ordered BL and the exotic ghost came with Hellas Basin perks and as you know, that won't be around for Y4... So into the vault it goes. Looks neat though. I just hope any future drops won't include perks for these destinations and have more Moon perks as well. Possibly Cosmodrome perks? I have never seen a ghost with a moon perk, btw.

An overhaul of foundries and adding Daito and Tex Mechanica as a fully-fledged foundry would actually do wonders for the game

    Posted: 22 Jun 2020 07:53 PM PDT

For reference, a fully-fledged foundry gives us:

    - Weapons

    - Armor (already exists for Daito)

    - Shaders

    - Emblems

    - Exotics (SUROS regime, Last Word, Chaperone, etc)

    - New archetypes

    - New perks (sometimes)

    - New lore

    - New ornaments

Both Daito and Tex Mechanica would, in theory, have weapon designs unlike anything we've seen before in Destiny. If the Daito armor set is anything to go off of, the weapons would most likely resemble a fusion between the Black Armory gear and Gundam, and Tex Mechanica's guns would be very similar to the Borderlands Jakobs foundry. These unique styles would add some level of incentive to get the weapons (as would the sheer newness of them), but here is where we get into archetypes and perks. Imagine if the Daito auto rifle, for example, fired at 800rpm, and had an intrinsic perk which was simply Dynamic Sway Reduction (think Adept weapons). Although DSR isn't necessarily the best perk in the game, that simple added bonus would be enough to incentivize players to chase that foundry's specific weapons. If Bungie went back and did this for all foundries (Hakke, Veist, SUROS, Omolon, etc) then that would be amazing, but even if it's just for Daito and Tex that'd be fine. Even better would be if Bungie added new perks to the game that were foundry-specific. Maybe Tex Mechanica weapons can get a perk that allows half the bullets used to kill the target to be returned directly to the magazine! Or maybe Veist guns can roll with a perk that creates seeking nanites upon a precision kill that heal you and your allies. Although the two perks I described are probably better suited for an exotic, it could also be the case that these perks have requirements in order to activate them. Maybe you need to get 2000 kills with the gun before the perk becomes active, or maybe you need to actually complete some sort of a foundry quest.

Beyond Light is the perfect place to introduce Daito into the game. We already have the armor set in the game right now through the Prophecy dungeon. We know that we will explore the Deep Stone Crypt, which is a literal vault from a bygone era. What better way to introduce a techno-themed foundry than a vault of technology previously locked away from the Guardians. As for Tex, that would probably have to come in a later season.

The standard armor and weapon loot pool is severely lacking in Destiny 2. Armor sets not found in endgame activities are uninspired at best, and downright ugly at worst. Weapons aren't much better, although their designs aren't regulated to just endgame activities, but rather the general loot pool and then activity-specific pools. Destiny 2 sorely needs uniqueness, and if Bungie were to add in these two new foundries complete with new perks and archetypes only found on the associated foundry's gear it would be incredible.

Let me know what y'all think!

    See you starside

    Optimized Bounties For 6/22/2020

    Posted: 22 Jun 2020 10:34 AM PDT

Deer trivia: When traditional mating rituals fail to attract a female elk, a male elk may go to the extreme by digging a hole in the ground, urinating into it, then bathing in it to strengthen his scent.

Step 1 - Do not try this at home. Leave it to the professionals.

Step 2 - Pick up the following Dailies. Weeklies can be found here.

    Tower Bounties:

    • Zavala Daily – From Downtown – 2 Super Multikills
    • Zavala Daily – Show Them The Light – 5 Super Kills in Strikes
    • Zavala Daily – Finish Them – 5 Finisher Kills in Strikes
    • Zavala Daily – They Were The Champions – Kill 5 Champions in the Ordeal
    • Shaxx Daily – Coordinated Fire – 5 Assist Kills in Crucible
    • Shaxx Daily – Standard Fare – 5 Kinetic Weapon Kills in Crucible
    • Shaxx Daily – Into the Light – 1 Super Kill in Crucible

    Planetaries

    • Eris Morn – I Said What I Fragment – Collect 2 Phantasmal Fragments
    • Eris Morn – One-Way Ballistics – 15 Kinetic Weapon Streak Kills
    • Eris Morn – Knock Down, Drag Out – 7 Fallen Finisher Kills on the Moon

    • Devrim Kay – Public Works – Complete 2 Public Events in the EDZ
    • Sloane – Make It Rain – Generate 10 Orbs of Light on Titan

Step 3 - Follow these steps:

    1. Fly to Titan, grab Sloane's bounty, then run a 1020 Ordeal. (15 minutes) If you're not at 1020 yet, you can run a 750 and just skip the Champion bounty.
    2. Play one Crucible match of your choice. (10 minutes)
    3. Fly to the EDZ and complete two Public Events, at least one of which is Cabal. I recommend hitting an event in the Gulch because a Forge Saboteur spawns there as well. (10-15 minutes)
    4. Fly TO THE MOOOOOOOOOOON, grab Eris's bounties, and buy two Phantasmal Fragments from the Lectern. Then clear a Fallen Lost Sector. (5 minutes)
    5. Complete the Izanami Forge. (10 minutes)

I think any notification that's worthy of social media, reddit, or otherwise, should also be posted in-game on some sort of Notice Board

    Posted: 22 Jun 2020 11:18 AM PDT

Being well informed enough to know what's changing, what's coming, what's broken, and what's being looked into can vary depending on platform you receive information from or who you choose to follow. All this information should be made available to the player in-game.

I think there should be a Notice Board, either at the character selection screen or in the tower, that a player can open and see an index of any conversation(s) being had on the multitude of platforms we try to receive these updates on. Be it links to those platforms, copy/paste to the Notice Board, or some other super creative way.

Bungie has been doing a better job over the years to make sure important information (and even game lore!) has been included in-game. I think this is the next best step for players

    Tower Exotic Armor Tier List

    Posted: 22 Jun 2020 07:05 AM PDT

This is a tier list to judge how effective an exotic is in the tower.

    • S Tier: St0mp-EE5, Dunemarchers & Transversive Steps. (They Provide Invaluable Movement Buffs. Essential for High light Tower Fun).

    • A Tier: N/A

    • B Tier: Aeon Exotics (Whats better than 6 Aeon Cultists? 26 Aeon Cultists!!!)

    • C Tier: Helm of Saint-14 (You can trick people into thinking you are Saint-14 lol).

    • D Tier: The Stag (Scary. Nobody will mess with someone wearing this)

    • F Tier: All Unmentioned Exotics

EDIT 1: Due to Popular demand, Dunemarchers & Transversive Steps have been moved from A Tier to S Tier

I Really Appreciate Bungie Giving PvE/PvP Alternatives in Quests

    Posted: 22 Jun 2020 09:34 PM PDT

I think something overlooked in these past months is the fact bungie has given options for both PvE and PvP in quests. Like how for Felwinter's, it would count both enemy and guardian kills for progress. Or in the most recent Interference quest, players could get progress from doing Gambit, The Reckoning, and Escalation Protocol. I hope they continue this trend in all future quests.
