I got news for you: Bungie isn't going to change sunsetting no matter how much logical criticism we give them.

    Posted: 30 Jun 2020 12:17 PM PDT

    We've done this dance before.

In the past the community has called out bad design decisions before they came out. Double primaries, slowed gameplay, TTK, and in the end Bungie would say "we're listening" and then proceed to roll out said bad system, everyone says it's a bad system and then Bungie eventually admits it didn't work and changes it the following Fall expansion.

They aren't going to scrap sunsetting, they've invested to0 much time and effort into it. They will sunset armor and weapons, we will hate it and call it stupid as we re-grind the same stuff again but with a different symbol, and they will admit fault 8 months from now and tell us they will change it in the Fall.

So is the Bungie and Destiny way.

Bungie please... With around 270 shaders in the game, the fact that there isn't a better system for storing them is crazy.

    Posted: 30 Jun 2020 05:43 AM PDT

I like to look through most of the shaders on my gear to make sure I get the right colours on it since the shader icons are inconsistent with what colours shade what parts. But since there isn't a system to preview specific pieces of armour, or energy and heavy weapons, or ghosts, sparrows and ships when using the preview from collections, I'm left with half of my 500 slots in my vault being used up by storing shaders. And on top of that, when I do want to look at every single shader on a piece of gear, the actual shader inventory only being 50 slots means that I have to move 50 shaders into and out of my vault multiple times to be able to go through all of them.

Bungie, please, do something to make the shader system a little better. Even if it's just increasing the shader inventory size to accommodate for all the shaders so I can actually use my vault for storing weapons and armour, or even increasing the vault size again so we can store heaps of gear and all the shaders, I'm sure the community would really appreciate that.

Solo One Phase Kell Echo Prophecy Boss

    Posted: 30 Jun 2020 07:13 PM PDT

Man I've done a lot of challenges in this game but this one was by far the most brutal, but also the most fun. Took about 60 hours of attempts in one week, kinda lost my mind a bit, but it was worth lol.

    Video

The build I ended up going with incorporated The Stag, which allowed me to get multiple rifts to be able to sword the boss on more than the first and last plate. The new Dark Drinker clone from this season (Falling guillotine) does the best DPS in the game right now, and this boss has a ton of health, so it was the only thing that made sense. Witherhoard being the special weapon version of Anarchy was also a go-to choice, since it's free passive DPS while I move through the room and kill the hobgoblins. Truthteller as the energy weapon wasn't my first choice, but it allowed me to move through the room at the same time and charge myself with light without wasting extra time.

    Loadout:

    • Witherhoard
    • Truthteller with Proximity nades, Underdog, Demolitionist
    • Falling Guillotine with Jagged edge, Swordmaster's guard, Relentless, Whirlwind blade

    Armor and Seasonal Mods used:

    • Helmet - The Stag with Concussive Dampener, Double Sword Finder
    • Arms - Concussive Dampener, Enhanced GL Loader, Stacks on Stacks
    • Chest - Minor Resist, Overload Grenades, Sword Reserves, Lucent Blade
    • Legs - Boss Resist, double Enhanced Sword Scavenger, Supercharged
    • Bond - Solar Resistance, Oppressive Darkness, Blast Radius
    • Blast Radius (Grenade Launcher double kills charge you with light)
    • Stacks on Stacks (Gain an extra stack of charged with light for every stack you gain)
    • Lucent Blade (35% more sword damage for 5 seconds after dealing damage with a sword)
    • Supercharged (Two extra stacks of charged with light)

These mods and this setup let me have an oppressive nade, a rift, and 100% uptime on Lucent Blade while I sworded on 3 different plates. It took quite a bit of testing and work to figure out what worked and what could be improved, and it turns out Overload grenades do work on bosses too which is why you see it on my chest piece. That mod alone kept me alive on almost every plate, whereas without I'd get 3 tapped by the lord of wolves while dropping my rift.

Anyway, enjoy the video gamers, thanks for reading/watching!

Fun fact: You can shoot a witherhoard shot into a chest (event chests, HVT chests, etc) and it will bug out and send the chest absolutely flying. Even managed to kill a blueberry with a flying chest.

The team in charge of lore is carrying this franchise

    Posted: 30 Jun 2020 06:59 AM PDT

The overall story is fucking great. Bits and bobs of smaller details and world lore here and there are amazing.

Why does the rest of the game feel like a 2nd job for a ton of people now?

Take back a lot of the power that your accounting and marketing departments have. How many of them even play the game? Everyone knows that the rest of the team does, but it seems like the group of people in charge of how you make money just doesn't give a fuck.

No one likes FOMO. No one wants to pay for the privilege of working a 2nd job.

Rethink your priorities. A video game should be about what players want, not a formula designed to vacuum money out of peoples' pockets while keeping them just entertained enough so they keep coming back.

Bungie why are the Cabal participating in the Contact public event? I mean realistically shouldn’t the Red Legion be fresh out of Colossus to throw at us?

    Posted: 30 Jun 2020 07:55 AM PDT

I mean I get that Calus has plenty of troops since he can grow them. And I know the greater Cabal empire has plenty of different legions as seen in D1. But at this point the Red "legion" should just be 2 Cabal Phalanx janitors, a one legged Psion, and a rusty scorpius turret that doesn't fire half the time.

Enhanced mods can now drop at the end of Iron Banner matches

If you don’t like the grind and the upcoming changes to the game’s loot, don’t pre-order. Don’t buy. I promise you’ll be fine.

    Posted: 30 Jun 2020 02:29 AM PDT

Here's a list of reasons why:

    • All the cool darkness subclasses will still be there when/if you decide to buy it and when/if Bungie makes the grind tolerable.

    • Sunsetting actually gives you a really good incentive to skip out on entire seasons. Why do that early season grind everyone does? It's frantic, and it feels like shit. Now you'll be doing that on top of replacing your gear. Don't feel like doing all that shit in the fall when you have classes/work? skip it. Just jump on the next power grind. The gear you get from the next season will always be "fresher" than the ones from the current. Bungie has ironically given you a really good reason not to play the game for extended periods of time. Everything is temporary and meaningless.

    • All the cool new content is locked behind a power level grind. Unfortunately, all the cool new content is always the most fun to play from a gameplay perspective. So just wait until the power level jumps up and/or it comes out of the content vault. you really don't have to be there. Trust me, as someone experiencing a lot of old content for the first time, it feels pretty much the same as new content for the first time. I didn't watch the avengers for 5 years after it came out and it was still a good movie then.

    • It'll likely go on sale in a bundle. Hell, if you wait a year for them to make the same annual shakeups they do every year, you'll probably get this expansion free.

When I saw D2Y1 was shaping up to be a bad experience, I didn't buy it. People at the time were like "just wait and see" and "2 primaries just had to be done." Whelp. I didn't buy the game until they said they were speeding up the sandbox, bringing back specials and adding more customization.

See, Bungie going all in on this "you had to be there" bullshit really makes it so you really don't have to be there. I could at any point decide I don't want to play Destiny, and I'd be at roughly the same spot as someone else who did next season.

No accumulating cool roles in your vault, or weird builds, or anything like that. No hidden gems you can dust off and take into end-game. No potential for anything you see to come in clutch a year down the line.

No testing. No mix-and-matching. No obscenely convoluted buildcrafting involving a year or more of collecting small pieces to put something cool together.

You have no reason at any given point to play, so you also have no reason to pay.

So if you have any qualms with the upcoming system, you should especially not pay nor play because the progression system fundamentally encourages you not to.

If you're fine with it, have a blast. No malice. It's just not my thing and not some other people's thing.

Hey bungie if you want to make perks that don’t affect our damage, you should raise our base primary damage as well as buff other perks to have more significant stat boosts.

    Posted: 30 Jun 2020 03:24 PM PDT

Let's be real, the only reason damage perks are so popular is because now they're the only way to effectively 1-tap red bar enemies with primary weapons. If we dealt more damage normally, we'd be inclined to go for perks other than outlaw/kill clip. Damage perks would still be good but they wouldn't be as sought after.

Armor 2.0 is begging players not to interact with it

    Posted: 30 Jun 2020 10:08 AM PDT

I had this all typed up once and accidentally deleted it. Here we go again.

I think that the destiny armor system actually has a ton of interesting build potential and min maxing that can be done. Which makes these problems all the more frustrating. And many of these issues compound upon each other to make a system that isn't worth anyones time.

    The Good:

    • The return of Discipline, Strength, Intellect, is magnificent.

    • Linking the stats and the class abilitys is an organic way to define each class, I like it.

    • Armor Mods are mostly well balanced and build oriented

    • Charged with light is cool and encourages interesting builds

    The Bad:

    • Glimmer costs, If I take the time to optimize my build I'm rewarded by wasting glimmer every single time. It adds up quickly.

    • Exotics not having slots destroys builds. If I swap from an exotic helm to a chest plate. I have to reconfigure multiple parts of my build to get things like charged with light working again.

    • Between Season locks, Armor type locks, and elements no one can keep track of which armor can equip what mods.

    • It's often difficult to remember or tell which mods stack.

    The Ugly:

    • the entire system is invalidated by the fact that upgrading your armor is extremely difficult. I've barely been able to experiment with charged with light because despite having maxed out every season and played hundreds of hours, I have I think 8 masterworked armors across all 3 characters. Sure I morally object to farming Nightfalls, but I shouldn't have literally nothing to show for playing the rest of the game. You shouldn't be locking 95% of players out of build crafting entirely. It actually locks off a massive amount of content.

    • Where do I get good armor? The prismatic recaster may be the answer after rank 72 this season, but I can't find any hands on with it to confirm. If I can only masterwork like 10 things (a year) I need them to be the best of course. How do I find the best armor though? I have no idea where to even start to consistently farm great armor. Maybe Iron Banner, but even that was dropping crap under 60 last season.

    • Sunseting, if I do happen to randomly find super high stat roll armor and finally create a perfect build and use my extremely rare materials to max it out. It has an expiration date.

    How to fix it IMHO

Most of these issues can actually be resolved with a few simple tweaks.

One, make the glimmer cost absolutely trivial. It only serves to be annoying for veteran players and a deterrent from trying out mods for new ones.

Two, just get really generous with the upgrade materials and suddenly many of these problems are mitigated if not eliminated entirely. Only rarely getting good armor is fine If I can upgrade most of what I get. And this helps keep the game interesting in the long haul because the odds of getting an absolutely perfect stat roll are extremely low. So you'll be seeing if you can't scrape out those last couple points basically forever.

Three, don't sunset armor. At all. New armor and old armor are essentially the same. So don't mess everyone up.

Four, remove elements from seasonal mods at the very least It's just way too hard to keep track of. And give exotics a universal season slot

(Five, this one is a little out there, but let me know what you think. Here's a crazy thought. What if instead of having seasonal mods in that last slot our guardians just had 5 perk slots. Totally separate from our armor. That way the synergized perks like charged with light wouldn't get messed up everytime we swapped a single piece of gear or exotic. And it would be easier to just go into one menu with all 5 slots and put a build together. More work of course for bungie, but the perks would still function identically so i think it's a possibility. Then bungie would rotate mods in and out if need be and add new ones as activity rewards. Like now, but hopefully easier to keep track of. )

Can we get the ability to view our full model while previewing a piece of armour

    Posted: 30 Jun 2020 03:12 PM PDT

Have an option to zoom out to see how well it fits with the rest of the armour this way we can see how a set we are yet to complete I see how it looks. for example i have to get the chest from the dungeon to complete my set but I would like to get a good view of it with my shaders on my entire guardian as opposed to just the chest .

The Forward Path quest is currently bugged and can give extra loot

    Posted: 30 Jun 2020 02:38 PM PDT

The new weapon quest (25 sidearm kills/25 auto kills) quest is account-wide so you can only complete it once. HOWEVER, if you pick it up on all 3 characters, complete it and then talk to Saladman, you'll find that your other two characters have it automatically completed for an extra auto and sidearm drop.

I had the quest picked up on my Warlock and Titan, completed bounties and the quest on my Warlock and when I signed onto my Titan, I found an extra set of weapon drops. So I had gears in my head turning and asked a friend playing with me to try and recreate it, which he did successfully.

    Enjoy the extra loot!

How to get to Savathûn's Eyes on Mercury Public Event platforms without doing the public event

    Posted: 30 Jun 2020 08:55 AM PDT

    Goooood evening DTG!

Before I get started, let me preface this by saying that I searched this sub beforehand, and I did not find any posts that talked about this.

Today, I'm bringing you something that I personally feel is good information to know.

As we all know (or at least most of us), there are 50 glowing Taken orbs scattered across Mercury, Io, Mars, The Whisper mission, and the new Dungeon "Prophecy". 2 of these are on the Public Event platforms on Mercury, which means you need to do the Public Event to get to them, which is especially annoying when you find out that 1 of the eyes is on the upper level of one of the platforms.

However, using the power of Yeet Titan, you can make it to these platforms, and get to both eyes, without ever having to do the Public Event.

If you want a more in-depth explanation, I have a video right here

Hope you guys found this helpful!

    Good, bye! And good, night!

Edit: I've been getting a lot of comments asking what these eyes are for and how to destroy them. They are for a triumph in the seasonal title "Forerunner" We cannot destroy them yet. When we get the Ruinous Effigy , then we'll be able to destroy them.

Looking back at a piece of Cayde lore.

    Posted: 30 Jun 2020 10:03 AM PDT

There's a classic grimoire card, also depicted as a comic, about Cayde meeting a Fallen Baroness. After they were done fighting Hive, she laid her pistol on the ground between them. Cayde went for it, so then she tried to attack him, which made him kill her.

A later piece of lore about Mithrax establishes that laying your weapon on the ground is a traditional Eliksni greeting and you're not supposed to touch it.

In short, Cayde messed up. I wonder how different things in this game would be if he had an Eliksni buddy this whole time.

If you guys get to working on this issue, can you also move drifter's voice-line that "all the envoys are down" from 2 envoy kills to 3 envoy kills? It really confuses new gambit players who don't know to look out for a third envoy. The problem is worst on Deep-Six, the Titan gambit map as an envoy sits underneath a staircase.

You might want to grind Iron Banner for The Forward Path.

The Forward Path auto rifle is being re-issued today with random rolls and it looks like it has a lot of potential. As far as I know, it is the only legendary Kinetic 600rpm auto rifle that will not be sunset next season. This is great news for me since my favorite secondary is the CQC12 shotgun. It has very similar base stats to Gnawing Hunger, but can roll with scopes like Galliard. It can roll with Dynamic Sway in the first column, but unfortunately does not roll with Kill Clip in the second column. It can however roll some nice combos like DSR / Tap the Trigger, DSR / Swashbuckler etc.

I'm going to be looking for a roll with: Rifle Scope ST - Tac. Mag, Accurized, or Flared Magwell - DSR - Tap the Trigger, Swashbuckler or Iron Grip. You can check out all the perks here:

On a side note, Iron Banner will not have SBMM either so grinding out games for Lord Salad Bar won't be as much of a headache this time around. If you guys have some other perk combo recommendations I would love to hear them. Happy hunting!

Edit: I did not consider that removing SBMM makes it harder for a lot of people. My bad.

Two Bungie Engineers, David Alridge and Chris Kosanovich, are currently doing an AMA on r/gamedev. Lots of cool BTS info on what it's like to make Destiny.
