Focused Feedback: Skill-based Matchmaking vs Connection-based Matchmaking

    Posted: 06 Jul 2020 06:33 AM PDT

    Hello Guardians,

Focused Feedback is where we take the week to focus on a 'Hot Topic' discussed extensively around the Tower.

We do this in order to consolidate Feedback, to get out all your ideas and issues surrounding the topic in one place for discussion and a source of feedback to the Vanguard.

This Thread will be active until next week when a new topic is chosen for discussion

Whilst Focused Feedback is active, ALL posts regarding 'SBMM vs CBMM' following its posting will be removed and re-directed to this thread. Exceptions to this rule are as follows: New information / developments, Guides and general questions

Any and all Feedback on the topic is welcome.

Regular Sub rules apply so please try to keep the conversation on the topic of the thread and keep it civil between contrasting ideas

A Wiki page - Focused Feedback - has also been created for the Sub as an archive for these topics going forward so they can be looked at by whoever may be interested or just a way to look through previous hot topics of the sub as time goes on.

In honor of Bungie 7/7 day, I present probably my most prized possession: 777 light, 7,777 kills Breakneck

    Posted: 06 Jul 2020 04:26 PM PDT

777-7,777 Breakneck, that's seven 7s and coincidentally has 77 range aswell, which is the MW.

This was the first thing I went after when Shadowkeep released and I thought it would be fitting that I post this on 7/7 day and right before it gets sunset.

I'm going to be honest. Destiny 1 isn't really better than D2.

    Posted: 06 Jul 2020 07:14 AM PDT

    I'm just saying.

I never really got into Destiny 1 during its lifetime, but I did try D2 on launch, and I've been in love with the game ever since. Don't get me wrong, D1 does a couple things better than D2, but recently having played both games side by side, D2 Is far better. Not only in amount of content, but Quality. Not to mention how many quality of life changes that D2 improved on the system.

It's nostalgia, so remember overeating the game can make players who give it a try feel disappointed.

EDIT: I could have worded "I never really got into Destiny 1" better. I played the game, it just didn't hook me like D2 does.

EDIT 2: I actually Do like D1 a lot now. I'm playing right now and having fun. Just wanted to point out that they're both good games. D1 is just wildly overrated when compared to D2.

Eriana's Vow and Witherhoard are awesome season pass exotics. Symmetry and Tommy's are cool but don't compare.

    Posted: 06 Jul 2020 09:05 AM PDT

And the feeling of New exotics being free and returning exotics having a quest seems backwards to me.

Take Eriana's Vow for example. Huge lore surrounding it and its use, relevance, and importance for endgame supports an awesome quest.

Not a big deal I guess since it gave everyone a solid weapon for free.

Please bungie i'm begging you, fix the Drifter preemptively telling blueberries to focus on the primeval when the envoys are still up.

    Posted: 06 Jul 2020 01:27 PM PDT

I felt very distressed watching a fellow dawnblade use their super on the boss at full health before the envoys were taken out (wet noodle flinger). I really wish game chat was still a thing these days.

If/when Titan returns in a later update, I really hope it will be for us to further explore inside the Arcology.

    Posted: 06 Jul 2020 10:40 AM PDT

The fact that an entire area like this will remain unexplored is such a shame - a forest inside of a massive Golden Age science facility. Imagine what crazy types of animals or enemies could be living there?

If you're going to remove the Leviathan and all of it's raids for Beyond Light, please keep Scourge of the Past for New Light players.

    Posted: 06 Jul 2020 10:33 AM PDT

I'm going on a limb and saying that since Bungie stated that there are going to have 3 raids this fall (Last Wish, Garden of Salvation, and Deep Stone Crypt Raid) It is very detrimental for New Light players to never get a chance to try out a raid before. Unless Bungie decides to make Last Wish or Garden of Salvation free to new light players (which is highly unlikely) I really hope they decide just to keep Scourge of the Past for New Light players.

Why Scourge of the Past? there are couple factors into it.

    1. It's on Earth in the EDZ, which won't be vaulted this fall.
    2. It's a shorter raid than something like Last Wish and Garden so it wouldn't be that long to do.
    3. The mechanics are much simpler to understand and learn for newcomers.
    4. Since Beyond Light is most likely going to be focused on the Fallen, this could be a nice tease for new light players to be in a older fallen raid before the new one with the expansion.
    5. The Anarchy is a neat exotic and is a great weapon for players who never had a raid exotic before.

I know that Scourge is in the Forsaken Expansion, but considering we are almost vaulting everything in Destiny 2 this fall, it might as well be released for free for New Light players since Leviathan is getting removed and it is highly possible that New Players would never get a chance to play a raid unless they buy the expansions. I'm also unsure if the main legendary raid weapons and armor will be updated to Beyond Light levels similar how Last Wish and Garden of Salvation gear and weapons will be updated. I hope this would end up being true.

I don't know if Bungie is rethinking their Vaulting ideas now but, I hope that you can keep Scourge of the Past just for New Light players since Leviathan is getting removed.

Plus it would be awesome for them to fight a giant fallen mech at the end.

    Thanks for reading!

If long range melees like Throwing Knives, Smoke Bomb or Throwing Hammer do not trigger when close to enemies, can it be the same for Celestial Fire and Ball Lightning ?

    Posted: 06 Jul 2020 06:02 AM PDT

This change would improve melee fights a lot for Warlocks, and they need that.

Edit for those unclear with what I meant: When close (like regular melee close) to an enemy the long range charged melees of Titans and Hunters will not trigger and a regular meele will happen. But for Warlocks, the charged melees are consumed regardless of the distance.

    Tracking while invisible

    Posted: 06 Jul 2020 07:12 AM PDT

Is anyone else noticing that enemies are tracking you and shooting you while invisible as a hunter?

I go around a corner invisible and a shrieker opens and kills me, knights are booming me out of the air while I'm invisible?

EDIT 1: So there does seem to be agreements and good case arguments. In specific I am talking about hunters top tree dodge invis and bottom tree Grenade invis. Comparable to prior seasons and taking into account the 'unspoken' rules of invisibility it does seem that this season enemies are tracking and some delay exists. I will further test this and edit again.

Riven should’ve used Cayde’s Voice too...

    Posted: 06 Jul 2020 01:54 PM PDT

I know I'm about 2 years late, but as a returning player who's been going back and doing the raids that I've never done before, I really feel like it would've been a cool part of Last Wish if Riven also imitated Cayde's voice alongside all the others she uses to mess with the player's head. It would've been a really poignant way to further show Riven's manipulative side by using his voice to make the player want to kill her even more. Maybe there's another lore explanation explaining why she uses the voices she does but I haven't seen anyone mention the omission of Cayde's after doing some admittedly minimal research. I don't think this is very relevant anymore, but it's something I've been thinking about a lot as Forsaken is my favorite expansion and one I continue to think about as Destiny's storyline progresses.

So with the new darkness powers coming, are hardlight and borealis going to update with them?

    Posted: 06 Jul 2020 07:50 AM PDT

Title. Just wondering if those guns will update to have stasis in the mix.

Edit: I really hope they don't get updated with stasis. But was just wondering since they can switch between elements.

In addition to "damage" bugs from enemies, their AI "level" has changed since this season launched.

    Posted: 06 Jul 2020 05:37 PM PDT

In case people are not aware, activities have many many levels of AI and it governs a fair amount of things. Accuracy, moves, sometimes HP can be associated with it as well. I'll explain in in some detail.

For the most part, I just sum up AI as "high level" or "low level".

Low level AI tends to rarely use abilities, have a low HP meter, have poor tracking abilities, and generally de-aggros pretty consistently (invisibility is one example of this). Their firerate tends to be average or even slow.

High level AI tends to spam abilities more, do the super roll dodges when you shoot your bullets (I call this the Halo AI, Elites rolled in Halo one on higher difficulties just by being scoped on), maintain aggression through invisibility, and track you while in midair. They also tend to have faster fire rates on their guns than their lower level counterparts.

To newer/less endgame inclined players, this might be a rare occurrence for you, but for now, let's just say Endgame is 1. Master level activities 2. Dungeons and 3. Raids (though Raids seem to have less rigorous AI than 1/2 from time to time).

Quick examples of this AI are every Hive Knight that does a barrel roll when you shoot a Grenade Launcher at them, the Acolytes in Pit of Heresy, the Snipers in Bergusia forge, and every Champion in a Master+ Strike. You will especially notice that they break the rules for their gun firing patterns- Barrier Champions for Cabal (miniguns) no longer have spinups, Hobgoblins have almost no cooldown on their retaliation swarms, Snipers rapid fire, and so on.

Normally for the most part, this is all fine and dandy, with a few exceptions existing (Hive barrel rolls are stupid, miniguns not having to ramp makes a colossus 100-0 you rather quickly, and some other extreme examples).

However, since this season launched, almost all enemies in all activities have high level AI. Hive are constantly barrel rolling, all enemies are tracking through the air, and aggression is even being maintained in lower level activities. I won't say EVERY enemy is broken, but a fair amount of activities that should not be considered "endgame level" (ie, Adept Nightmare Hunts) are having enemies with this level of AI at least somewhat intact. Invis tracking is on par with a dungeon, some champions are skipping their cooldowns like you would see in a Master level activity, and so forth.

I realize this concept is very abstract, and it's not something stated much throughout the game, but I hope this shapes it in a way that makes it understandable. If you have any questions or clarifications where I messed up, I welcome them- I've probably butchered a fair amount of this just trying to get the message out.

Honest question: why is Destiny 2 considered too big at 115 GB on PS but CoD can be 175 GB and still growing?

    Posted: 06 Jul 2020 05:39 PM PDT

    Basically title.

I was freeing up space on my PlayStation and saw how much space different games take up. I understand that D2 being over a hundred GB is a big game to continue to manage, but both Call of Duty and Battlefront II require more space.

Is it simply a coding thing?

So if Red War, Curse of Osiris, and Warmind are getting vaulted, what is gonna be Amanda Holliday’s purpose?

Only reason I visit her is to hear that sweet southern accent that could make a vampire blush replay campaigns, what do you guys think will happen to her when September comes around? Will she still just be selling green ships and sparrows?

Come Beyond Light - here are the Vanguard Strikes being removed from the game and the new ones being added.

    Posted: 06 Jul 2020 07:06 AM PDT

    Being Vaulted:

    • Savathun's Song
    • The Pyramidion
    • Tree of Probabilities
    • A Garden World
    • Strange Terrain
    • Will of the Thousands
    • The Festering Core

    Being Added:

    • Will of Crota - (launching with Beyond Light)
    • The Devil's Lair - (launching with Season 13)
    • Fallen S.A.B.E.R. - (launching with Season 13)
    • Unannounced new strikes on Europa / other destinations

Truthfully, except for Will of the Thousands (since it's one of the fastest strikes in the game), I'm not sad to see any of these go.

I'm thrilled to have the Cosmodrome strikes back and looking forward to seeing what Europa has to offer. I'm assuming Europa will have 2 strikes and there will be an additional new strike on an existing destination.

Edit: Folks keep asking for a source - https://www.bungie.net/en/Explore/Detail/News/49189

I feel like with the Exo Stranger returning it's the perfect time to introduce veteran player dialogue toggle

    Posted: 06 Jul 2020 04:11 PM PDT

The Exo Stranger played a weird part in Destiny's original campaign where we didn't learn much about her, with her returning this Fall I really hope that Bungie adds the ability to toggle veteran dialogue at least for those who played Destiny 1 and have their account linked.

I don't want to miss our ghost calling out her little light
