Have you ever wondered what Dark Motes taste like? How about Vanilla Blades? What might a meal inspired by Izanagi's Burden be like? Or cookies based on Gjallarhorn? Would they be sweet? Bitter? Perhaps even… exotic?

The recent release of the Destiny: The Official Cookbook is Bungie's attempt at answering these kinds of pressing questions. Whether you're a budding gourmet or someone whose idea of a meal is putting in an order with your delivery service of choice, there's something here for every level of culinary skill. The book, which was released this week and is available on the Bungie Store now, features dozens of recipes inspired by the worlds, characters and, yes, sometimes, even the weapons of Destiny 2. From Radiolarian Pudding to Infinite Forest Cake; Traveler Donut Holes to spicy ramen (naturally!), there's lots of culinary treats to prepare and enjoy, and no shortage of goodies for Destiny lore connoisseurs along the way.

Recently we spoke with some of the people who have been instrumental in bringing the Official Cookbook to life, discussing what it's been like combining the worlds of epic sci-fi action and epicurean delight.

"There's nothing more wholesome than preparing a meal," said Bungie's Lorraine McLees, art lead in Consumer Products. "It's something we can all relate to."

Lorraine has been with Bungie for more than 20 years and her list of artistic contributions to the worlds of Bungie is formidable. (The Halo logo? Yeah, that's her work). Considering her long history with the company, Lorraine remembers the days when members of the Bungie team would spend holidays together instead of traveling to visit family. "We used to host Thanksgiving. We had big gatherings; there were probably like 60 of us."

Those makeshift family holiday dinners were the origins of the Destiny cookbook concept, she said. "We collected a whole bunch of recipes from everybody. I gave them [recipes] that I cooked for folks, even bringing it to the office and cooking."

Though that original concept of a home-sourced version of a Destiny cookbook never really took off, the inspiration stuck around. At one point the team considered sharing a small collection of Festival of the Lost-related recipes but that project eventually fizzled too. It was only relatively recently that the idea of a traditional Destiny cookbook took its first steps towards publication, thanks in no small part to the plethora of appearances that food and drink make in Destiny 2 lore.

Lorraine remembers seeing a similar gaming-related cookbook (the World of Warcraft cookbook) and immediately seeing the possibilities in the Destiny universe. After all, you don't need to dive too deep into the lore to see references to food and drink. "We have spicy ramen; we talk about a bunch of different foods," Lorraine said. "Devrim Kay talks about making tea. There's something about making food and how it makes [the world of Destiny] into something you can relate to."

So with full confidence that the world of Destiny held plenty of possibilities for fueling a full-fledged collection of recipes, it was perfect timing when one of Bungie's longtime officially licensed partners, Insight Editions, came up with a pitch for an actual cookbook. Even better, they already had the right person on board to make the dream of a Destiny cookbook a reality.

    CULINARY CREATOR

Victoria Rosenthal isn't just a fan of videogames, she's an author and amateur chef who loves to showcase her various cooking skills and gaming-inspired recipes on her website and Twitch channel. As the author of the Fallout:The Vault Dweller's Official Cookbook , Victoria has mastered the art of marrying delicious-yet-approachable recipes with content that is built from the rich narratives of games, making her an obvious choice to take up the mantle for hungry Guardians everywhere.

Though her cooking credentials were well in-hand, the challenge for Victoria was in finding the right menu of recipes. Thankfully both she and her husband are Destiny fans, and they immediately tackled the problem by diving deep into the narrative, poring through game entries, Web lore, the Destiny Grimoire books, and more to find succulent clues.

"We started doing big dives into the lore," Victoria said, "There's lots of little mentions of food. Obviously spicy ramen is a very obvious one but if [Cayde-6's aviary chum] Colonel [is] sticking around, she has to be providing eggs. There has to be more recipes there! And then [Bungie] came out with The Dawning and I was like, 'Oh perfect! Thank goodness, the dessert section is covered!'"

The central narrative of the Destiny cookbook centers around Eva Levante, who acts as host, guide, and curator for the reader through the various locations and recipes that the book introduces. Along the way, readers will enjoy entries from important Destiny 2 characters like Ana Bray, Amanda Holliday, Zavala, and more.

The recipes themselves are organized thematically or by location; for example, treats like Chocolate Ship Cookies and Burnt-Edge Transit are found in the "The Dawning" section, while hearty dishes such as schnitzel, German potato salad, and French Onion soup are tucked in the "EDZ: Trostland" chapter. There's an assortment of urban fare in the "City Life" section, such as Gyoza, Bulgogi Burritos, as well as "Exotic" foods such as the aforementioned Izanagi's Burden, and even an Ace of Spades recipe (only this time, the results don't become a Banshee-44-approved hand cannon).

International variety is a core component of the recipe lineup, and it's a notion that is supported by a deep cut lore entry from the first Destiny Collector's Edition: The City Library. As Lorraine explains, "It's kind of like the Library of Alexandria, where all the books that ever existed would be copied and brought to the city. All of the literature that exists in our solar system."

"There would have been specific sets of foods from the 1,000 nations that flocked to or sheltered under Traveler. [Those people] would have brought their recipes as well. There's thousands of them and Eva would have had selected a few that were easy to make, with ingredients that were easy to find."

"[Victoria] actually surprised us with the manuscript with some of the things she suggested putting in there," said Lorraine. "We asked her to cite a lot of sources and she did. She's already done her homework and had found these angles for how to approach the fiction."

It shouldn't come as a surprise to hear that Victoria is a Destiny 2 player herself (a Warlock main, for the record). And, in addition to collecting and providing the recipes, and writing all the character entries, Victoria also took all of the photographs that grace the cookbook's pages. An avid photographer, she said this project pushed her skills in new directions, whether it was setting up attractive shots of large meals (a tricky proposition when compared to more traditional Instagram-like shots of single servings), to making sure the photos themselves felt like they were pulled from the world of Destiny 2.

    Image Linkimgur

Sometimes that meant working with some fantastic props. "We got a Sunshot [replica] to visit us at home. The moment I opened the box I was like, 'Oh my gosh, this gun is huge.' We took it out and tried to take pictures with my corgi Kanji but he was spooked by that thing. That was one of those moments where you're like, 'This is really cool.'"

Whether you're an old hand around the kitchen or you don't know your balloon whisk from a basting spoon, there's something for you to try in the book. Victoria suggests starting with something like buttermilk biscuits, or the banh mi burger; the former is one of her guilty pleasures, the latter, a friendly introduction to Vietnamese cuisine. "It's in burger form so instead of beef patty, it's a pork patty, there's pâté in there; there's pickled vegetables and cilantro. You get the taste of bahn mi but it's a burger, something that's a little more approachable."

Research, writing, photography, check-ins, more research, more writing. There's a lot that goes into the making of something like Destiny: The Official Cookbook. Alongside all that hard work, however, there's some fun, too: namely trying out the recipes. "Everything gets eaten (beforehand)," Victoria said. "I typically [have] a crew of people I'll have come in for the weekend. [I'll say] 'Hey I'm making this set of meals, please come eat some food because I have a lot."

    And hopefully lots of leftovers.

Destiny: The Official Cookbook is available for purchase now on the Bungie Store (U.S., E.U.)

Dear Bungie, please add something other than “kill things with snipers and scouts” to the recaster

I've had to do that bounty so many times I've lost count and if they could just change it to a different weapon type that would be absolutely splendid (it's worse doing it on all three characters)

Strongholds are one of the best exotics this season, here's why (Kell Echo solo one phase on Titan)

    Posted: 22 Jul 2020 07:20 AM PDT

So I've been trying to solo one phase the Dungeon Boss on every character, and this requires a lot of weird loadout testing to see what the most optimal things are in the given encounter. Of course swords do insane DPS this season so that's a given, but Strongholds take them to another level by giving health when blocking on Titan. Couple this with everyone's favorite sword this season, Falling Guillotine, and you have some massive damage output and safety in almost every cqc scenario.

    Video

Depending on how good you are with the timing, you can go from almost dead to full health instantly with Strongholds. This also blocks all knockback from boss stomps, everyone's favorite mechanic. Pair this healing ability with Counterattack (sorry, whirlwind) and you have 50% extra damage for around 2 seconds, which is 20% higher than you can hit with an x5 whirlwind stack. Since I knew I was going to be blocking to live, this was an obvious pick and led to some massive burst damage. With all buffs/debuffs, one heavy attack is about 230k on the Kell Echo, which ironically is only a little less than a debuffed Nighthawk shot lol. The only real issue with blocking is the window for healing/proc'ing counterattack is extremely tight, so your timing has to be on point. I imagine someone who masters this timing would basically never die unless they become a potato midfight. Anyway, onto the mod/weapon setup!

    Mods:

    • Lucent Blade - 35% extra sword damage when charged with light
    • Supercharged - Allow 2 extra stacks of charged with light
    • Blast Radius - Grenade Launcher multikills charge you with light
    • Taken Barrier - 20% damage resistance to Taken enemies

    Weapons:

    • Kinetic - Witherhoard with autoloading catalyst
    • Energy - Truthteller with Proximity grenades, Underdog, Demolitionist
    • Heavy - Falling Guillotine with Jagged edge, Swordmaster's Guard, Relentless, Counterattack

This took a TON of attempts, around 35 hours worth. Between this one and the Warlock, I'd say I've spent close to 100 hours and 500 banners used lol. Hunter attempts are being done, but it's looking pretty unlikely and even more RNG than either of the other two. Also, this is after the Guillotine nerf, so if you had any doubts about it not being good anymore, here's your answer :) Enjoy the video and thanks for your time!

If Top Tree Dawnblade can icarus dash outside the super, then why can’t I use Ionic Blink (Top Tree Storm) or use the Nova Warp teleport outside my super?

    Posted: 22 Jul 2020 10:50 AM PDT

Currently Both Ionic Blink and the nova warp teleport are completely useless, they use way to much super energy. How about we make them usable outside the super, to have a icarus dash type ability in our neutral game. Part of the reason why icarus dash is so good, is because it provides a mobility ability for warlocks, which severely lack mobility

Just got two friends into the game and I have to say, the new player experience is awful.

    Posted: 22 Jul 2020 09:57 AM PDT

If you're like me and have been playing since beta of D1 then it's easy to not know how hard it is to be new to this game.

I first want to say I'm glad it's free. I wouldn't have gotten my friends to play this game if it wasn't, and thankfully I was able to guide them (after a lot of googling on my part) so hopefully they stick with it.

When you create a new character it's immediately level 750. You're dropped into the tower with no real explanation.

The idea behind every new character starting at 750 was so that player could instantly jump into endgame content with their friends. For experienced players maybe this makes sense, but there is so much going on in destiny that my friends had no idea where to look or start or what to do.

The campaign doesn't even start right away. I had to google to find out that to start the campaigns they needed to go to Amanda Haladay. We had already played a bunch of missions on EDZ before I figured that out. I kept expecting them to get a quest for it or something.

Now to the actual campaign. We breezed through it and I mean that in every sense of the word. The game does not scale the difficultly for 3 players and if it does it doesn't do it nearly enough. Maybe the fact that everyone was 750+ already, but even so the game was boring because it provided no challenge.

On top of that, much of the buildup was cut. There are two story missions on every planet, and the players are immediately sent to the next one. Players are never encouraged to explore planets or really learn about lost sectors or public events.

One of my biggest gripes are that the guaranteed exotics are gone. You used to get a choice of three at both titan and IO, and now there is nothing. The text from the vendors even says choose an exotic but nothing is presented.

New content they don't have access to is almost impossible to distinguish between what they do.

And finally, we just beat the campaign today on our second day of playing, and they still don't have access to the artifact mission. As a returning playing I was sent there on first log in and they have yet to have the mission thrown at them or even see it on the map. Gona have to do more googling just to figure out how to free up their umbral engram spaces.

Again, I'm happy it's free but you shouldn't have to have a Sherpa or google to tell you how to play a game.

For the love of god STOP joining LFG groups that ask for people that know what to do when you DONT.

    Posted: 22 Jul 2020 08:49 AM PDT

Ive had to run spire of stars with 3 different groups and in each time there were at least 2 people who had no clue what the raid was even about.Just PLEASE if the LFG post is asking for people who know what to do and you've got no clue then DON'T join it , thank you.

EDIT: To make this clearer i don't mind when someone who is rusty joins in as long as they know most of what they are doing, also for those who don't know the raid i'm sure there are people willing to teach, making LFG posts for beginners will also get you a full team of people that you can learn with.

Just a friendly reminder to those wanting to complete their Worldline Zero catalyst, it requires Mars AND 5 weeks IF you do them in a row.

    Posted: 22 Jul 2020 11:31 AM PDT

The Worldline Zero catalysts is obtained by killing enemies out in the world with swords. To complete the catalyst you must use the Worldline to damage each of the Escalation Protocol level 7 bosses (5 in total).

    The 5 bosses are:

Nur Abath, Crest of Xol — A large Ogre who gains an indestructible shield when any Hive are nearby him. Kill all lesser monsters and then damage Nur Abath as quickly as you can before more spawn in.

Kathok, Roar of Xol — A large Vanquisher who has a shield which can only be destroyed by the blades of Severing Knights who spawn during the battle. Once his shield is down, he can be damaged by normal weaponry from a safe distance.

Damkath, the Mask — A large Ogre who is immune to all damage from the front, but has a weak spot on his back. It is best to split your team so one group can be firing on him at most times. Be cautious to not run around his feet very often as he will slam attack and track anyone who does, making it even harder for the team to hit his weak point.

Naksud, the Famine — A large Ogre who is always vulnerable to damage, but he will spawn special Cursed Thralls who rush for him and heal him upon detonation. It is best to minimize the amount of enemies on the battlefield at all times, so it is easier to focus fire upon the Cursed Thralls when they spawn in. Nightstalkers should consider placing Shadowshots in strategic locations to tether the thralls before they can reach the boss.

Bok Litur, Hunger of Xol — A large Knight who is always vulnerable to damage, but has an incredible amount of health. He will spawn in Battery Acolytes frequently, who drop several Orbs of Light on death. Super abilities will be the best means of damaging the boss.

TIP: Some times the catalyst progression can take several hits on the unshielded boss to count towards your progress so make sure to check before moving on.

Completing the catalyst will net you the Another Dimension perk, which reduces the time it takes to activate Tesseract, Worldline Zero's signature perk.

Thanks to destinygamewiki for the boss info.

How to "cheese" The Corrupted Grandmaster Nightfall - works on every run/every class

    Posted: 22 Jul 2020 08:19 PM PDT

A lot of people seemed to have problems with the final damage phase of this strike. We just tried bringing a charged orb into the ascendant realm to break her shield and it worked!

This allows you to skip the final damage phase entirely and kill the boss from the back of the room, which is super easy. Just make sure that you have enough ammo :)

Here's Hoping Beyond Light Will Be A Proper Expansion Like TTK Or Forsaken

    Posted: 22 Jul 2020 08:54 AM PDT

(Title) As I believe that Bungie hasn't actually come out and said what we should expect in terms of size for this expansion. Like with Shadowkeep we were told it was going to be a ROI size expansion and with Forsaken we were told it would be at least equal to the size of TTK. As much as I liked smaller expansions like Shadowkeep and ROI I just really need a proper size expansion right now with more than 3 proper story missions (looking at you Shadowkeep). I am aware that Bungo usually releases a big expansion every other year, but since the split with Activision I am kinda worried that they can't keep that kind of schedule without having more time. This is new territory for us as players and for Bungie with Destiny as this is going to be the first (hopefully) big expansion that they release on their own...so some expectation setting wouldn't be the worst thing Bungie could do right now.

Hey Bungie. Wouldn't it be cool if instead of "hints" in loading screens, there was small snippets or lore instead.

    Posted: 22 Jul 2020 10:37 PM PDT

Hints are pretty useless in most games so it would be awesome to be able to read little bits of lore every time instead of the usual, boring stats that 99% of players know. Some more facts about shin Malphur and other historic figures would be a great addition

If they buff Rocket Launchers in Beyond Light I hope Deathbringer does the highest DPS

    Posted: 22 Jul 2020 05:55 PM PDT

I just want a Deathbringer meta and I feel that a good portion of boss fight won't work with it because you would need alot of space above the boss to get max dps and that would balance it out and reduce the likelyhood of Deathbringer becoming the only weapon to use like Gjallarhorn.

    Hip-Fire Grip perk on Snipers...

    Posted: 22 Jul 2020 06:15 PM PDT

Some tips and a general outline for people going for the Corrupted Grandmaster Nightfall

    Posted: 22 Jul 2020 08:35 AM PDT

After quite a few attempts at the new Grandmaster yesterday we finally completed it. And as I typed out my strategy for a few of the discord groups I'm in I thought I might as well share it here:

    --------------Loadout Tips --------------

We ran 2 warlocks (top tree, contraverse hold, high discipline)

1 hunter(bottom tree sixth coyote high mobility).

    3x mountaintop (taken spec).

Arc Bow (Overload), Void Bow (Overload), Solar Pulse (Unstoppable).

    2x Anarchy, 1 Xenophage.

    -------------- Mods --------------

    Taken &/or Hive barrier

    Taken Armaments

    Taking charge

Protective light (could swap this to High-Energy Fire if you are confident in your survivability)

preferably also 1 minor and 2 major resists.

Countercharge, Overload grenade, and Oppressive Darkness mods are also highly recommended.

If you still have old solstice or Crown of Sorrow gear you can stack both hive and barrier mods on them as per my older post. Giving you the option to add more mods like Repurposing/ Invigoration on. Or in my case allowed me to double up on Hive/Taken Barier and Armaments.

    -------------- General Advice --------------

I Recommend just killing all adds and taking your time with it, call it out if you are running low on heavy so you can save some small adds for grenade kills. As the hunter if you are low on ammo and don't have a grenade ask your teammates to stand together and smoke them for grenade energy. Also, remember to always try to dodge near an enemy as soon as you use your smoke and the ads are up.

    -------------- Strike walkthrough --------------

The beginning part you can either stay in your spawn and slowly take everything out from a distance. Or you can move up through the right and just focus on the Taken Centurion and the Champion Hobgoblins. Always be aware of the balls that the Centurion shoots, as these can easily one-shot you. I would try both methods and see whichever works best for your team. You could also push up on the right side, kill the centurion and skip through the portal using the hunter invis smoke. This will however cost you your Platinum reward. But that is fine if all you care for is the completion.

On the elevator part dupe around 8 balls by swapping your weapon while holding a charged ball, 4 on the left 4 on the right. Spray the ground where adds spawn with anarchy shots and grenades, this should kill all the taken psions. Then all 3 of you trow a ball when the majors spawn. Repeat this for the second phase feel free to use your novas here to save some time and ammo.

Hive/ Taken Ogre bosses, hang out in the right room, provides plenty of cover, and even allows you to drop down if needed. If you are going for the platinum be aware that a taken champion spawns when the taken boss is about half health. This one can despawn when you kill either the Hive or Taken Ogre to fast. If you are not going for the platinum rewards I would just slowly clear all adds, and then hit one of the bosses with a void grenade (OP) and nuke it with anarchy/ nova bombs as this will then stop you from teleporting and despawns a wave of adds. Preferably take out the taken Ogre as this means you will not have to deal with the Shriekers.

In the area after this be sure to stock up on heavy again with your grenades/Armaments. If you need to you can move back in the big room to deal with the unstoppable taken. After dealing with all 4 of these unstoppable taken do not push up too far in the room, instead jump up on the Islands on the left and right and take out the taken hobgoblin champions from a safe head glitch.

At the part with the wanted target just slowly take out all the adds from above and let the wanted target escape.

At the boss, platforms make sure you have plenty of anarchy. Every time adds spawn hit those floors with 4/6 shots of anarchy. If you can hit the boss with a grenade at the time your ball hits her and trow a nova on her. Save the other Nova for the second damage phase.

Xenophage is perfect for the knights with solar shields at the boss and in the part between boss areas. As the pulse will take forever to take the shield down.

At the final boss part, we pretty much repeated this process. 1 nova per damage phase is recommended. We used the tether for the adds between the damage phases. The arena is very survivable when the adds are down and as long as you keep moving. If you have the time you could play your life for a few minutes and build new supers. Overall I would say it is important to run it with the same group to familiarize yourself with the spawns and get a team rhythm down for killing everything as fast as you can when it spawns.

    -------------- In Closing --------------

It might take a few (or very many) attempts till you get the rhythm down, but overall it is achievable. And with the delay of Beyond light you might as well put some time into this.

Shattered Throne - Same as Prophecy then switched to Golden Gun w/ High Energy Fire so I could feel the nigh unbeatable high of one shotting a boss. Sadly I didn't notice I missed one of the orbs before I shot and only did half of her health. Pepe. Hands.

Some personal thoughts of my adventures in soloing Destiny's dungeons:

Prophecy is the pinnacle of dungeon design in my opinion. It feels more like a boss rush than a mini-raid, which I think is what dungeons should be aiming for. Short, exciting and difficult. Pit and Throne were fun, but having to restart is more demoralizing than Prophecy because you're facing down a much longer and filler run.

Warmind cells are underrated and were pretty pivotal in my Pit run. Even just having Global Reach made a huge difference in Totem.

    Invis hunter is fucking cracked.

I can't wait to see what the next dungeon holds for us, and I hope they keep continuing down the path they went with Prophecy!

I want ornaments of the original armor from the D1 box

I play as a titan and I was looking back at some of the old Destiny 1 titan armor and it made me miss how the titans used to look. Back in D1 I played as a warlock but I always liked how the titans looked because even though they were your typical armored character they had the classic Destiny design to them. Plus each of the armors in D1 had their own distinct style where in D2 most pf the titan armor just looks the same and its lost the classic Destiny design.

So what I would like to see is the original 3 armors that were you used on the box art and the early promos come back as ornaments. I honestly wouldn't mind them being Eververse items because of how much I love the old looks. Now this wouldn't be the first time Bungie has done this because they did something similar to this back in Season of the Drifter where they added ornamental armor from D1 but changed it up a bit. Thats all I would like is a little taste of old with the new especially since its year 7 of Destiny which would also be a cool little anniversary thing.

Been spending time taking photos inside Prophecy. My favorites are here!

These are mainly taken in the latter half of the dungeon, and were taken over 3 completions. Let me know what you think!
