    Focused Feedback: Player Cosmetics/Customization

    Posted: 03 Aug 2020 08:53 AM PDT

    Hello Guardians,

Focused Feedback is where we take the week to focus on a 'Hot Topic' discussed extensively around the Tower.

We do this in order to consolidate Feedback, to get out all your ideas and issues surrounding the topic in one place for discussion and a source of feedback to the Vanguard.

This Thread will be active until next week when a new topic is chosen for discussion

Whilst Focused Feedback is active, ALL posts regarding 'Player Cosmetics/Customization' following its posting will be removed and re-directed to this thread. Exceptions to this rule are as follows: New information / developments, Guides and general questions

Some examples of topics related to this are listed below:

Allow customization of the character's features after creation, aka a Barber Shop

Add the option to apply shaders to all armor pieces at once

    Make all armor elements shaderable

Topics that are retired because they are on our Bungie Plz wiki are fair to talk about in this thread provided they are related to Cosmetics/Customization

Any and all Feedback on the topic is welcome.

Regular Sub rules apply so please try to keep the conversation on the topic of the thread and keep it civil between contrasting ideas

A Wiki page - Focused Feedback - has also been created for the Sub as an archive for these topics going forward so they can be looked at by whoever may be interested or just a way to look through previous hot topics of the sub as time goes on.

If Bungie's gonna try to vault Mars, I will just have to spend 200 hours building it myself!

    Posted: 03 Aug 2020 06:52 AM PDT

    When I heard Mars was going away, I knew I had to save my favorite destination somehow, so I built the main Braytech Futurescape area, from the rail system to where the lost sector starts. This is what I was able to create over the past month;

    https://imgur.com/a/tbX2ARX

This was built entirely within the Hammer Editor (which many may know as the archaic two-decade old mapmaker), and is currently built for Garry's Mod TTT.

Despite the many, many, glitches that come from mapping with Hammer, I think it ultimately turned out pretty well, even if the low brushcounts meant scrapping some parts. If you have Gmod and want to try it out, feel free to check it out over on the Steam Workshop: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2185637634

    Have fun!

Edit: I know it's cliche, but I want to say thanks for the awards, it's really brightened my day.

Last Night I Got The Kindergardian Triumph.

    Posted: 03 Aug 2020 09:36 AM PDT

It's a secret triumph that Bungie hasn't added yet to the game but here is the scoop.

I'm a lucky guy who's wife loves to game. So naturally our three kids love playing video games too. Because of Covid-19 quarantine we have all been spending more time playing video games and in the last three months all five of us have gotten into Destiny.

This past weekend was when our youngest(8) was setup with her account to level her guardian up. Everyone was jumping into her fireteam to help her with various quests. We're all in our family private discord server having a blast and one of our family friends joins us. Suddenly there are 6 of us playing destiny when my son says...

"Hey Dad! There's six of us in here. We could do a raid!"

Now mom is down to play anything but she's more into Destiny because it has turned into the family game we all play. She messages me and says "up to you". I whisper our family friend and ask him if he's down for the ultimate challenge - raiding with an 8, 9 and 10 year old. He good to go and we both laugh about how hilarious it will be.

I decide we will do Scourge since that is a simple but fun raid and is usually the first D2 raid a new raider should do as it does a good job teaching how there are mechanics involved in a raid. Plus, my son wants Anarchy and none of the girls have the gun either. So Scourge it is! As we load in I think to myself "I wonder how long this will take".

I explain the first encounter to them. We assign roles and we give it our first try. We complete it! And on our first try!

We get to the sparrow encounter and while all 5 of us die, we get the door to open and our friend makes it to the end (he always rocks this encounter) so we get the chest and move onto the jumping section!

Our youngest has a bit of a challenge with the jumping area but soon figured it out and suddenly we are at the boss room....much faster than I would have thought.

We decide that the boys will go down and get the buffs and the girls will stay top side and kill the Servitor. We nearly one-phase it and cleared it on our first try.

Ok so now it's the final encounter. I take my time explaining it to the kids (actually just the girls since my son had joined me to farm this for Anarchy but he didn't get it). We start the encounter and each of them is having to do something. My son and I are sniping the boss and staggering him, mom and our youngest are calling out the map locations. Our friend and middle child are zooming around grabbing batteries and depositing them (we did use 'joining allies' to keep it simple). We have a mistake and end up wiping. Second try, everything goes smoothly and we get to DPS. We're all calling out CAP and sure enough - we down the boss!! With that kill we completed the 'Kinderguardian' triumph which requires you to complete a raid with half a fireteam of little stinkers! (I lovingly call my kids 'my little stinkers')

    So now what?....

We run it again! Only this time, when we get to the final boss I switch characters to grab the checkpoint. And suddenly we are farming this boss. I don't know how many kills we got but it was enough that my wife and our two daughters got Anarchy. Which leaves my poor son with the only one without it. Anyone with kids knows that this is not...good. But he's been a great sport about not having it. We've all committed to make it our weekend family activity to farm Anarchy until he has it. It was a night I will never forget!

TL;DR: I ended up taking my family which includes my three kids (10, 9 and 8) through our first raid with all of us (previously only raided with my son or wife) and we ended up farming SoTP for Anarchy with three out of 4 of them getting it.

Solving the Xenophage puzzle, with MATH

    Posted: 03 Aug 2020 12:05 PM PDT

So me and my roommate nerd sniped each other into finding a generalized solution for the Xenophage puzzle, and it turns out there's some pretty cool math involved.

I might do a full writeup later if people are interested, but for now I've packaged all the math and my highly mediocre web design skills into a very simple page that you can just enter any puzzle state into, and it will tell you the solution (assuming one exists at all).

    Here it is. Enjoy.

The source code is open, so if you want to look at the math yourself, or make a less shitty UI, you're more than welcome to do that.

It's a shame that Broodhold, The Festering Core, and The Scarlet Keep never even got an Emblem. Especially since Festering Core is leaving soon. Without specific loot or emblem, the Strike may as well have never existed at all.

Bugged; Raiju's Harness still consumes extra Super energy, contrary to the Exotic perk.

    Posted: 03 Aug 2020 04:02 PM PDT

While playing Mayhem this week, I thought I noticed that my Super was still ending quite a bit faster. I decided to hop into a private match, and I confirmed it (video in TLDR).

While blocking with Whirlwind Guard, your super energy is still consumed faster than the idle super drain. This is not what the exotic perk states, which is "Guarding does not consume extra Super energy."

I wasn't sure if I was just seeing things, or misunderstood the perk description, but then I googled it and saw that Ekuegan, a notable D2 creator, also had the issue (note; I believe Ekeugan's pic is before the exotic perks description was changed). Does Bungie know about this?

TL;DR - Raiju consumes extra energy. Here's the video.

p.s. bungie please don't give this the oathkeeper treatment.

edit; names and clearing up stuff

Headseeker damage is inconsistent on Aggressive Frame Pulse Rifles.

    Posted: 03 Aug 2020 12:38 PM PDT

The damage bonus from Headseeker is not applied consistenly when on Aggressive Burst Pulse Rifles. Their base headshot damage is 27, and headseeker headshot damage is 29, with body shot damage being 16. In testing with my brother we found all of the following possible damage combinations when using a Sacred Provenance with headseeker:

    Expected Full headshot damage: 27-27-27-27

    Expected 1B3H (1 Bodyshot, 3 Headshots) Headseeker damage: 16-29-29-29

    1B3H Partial Headseeker damage: 16-27-29-29

    Expected 2B2H Headseeker damage: 16-16-29-29

    2B2H Partial Headseeker damage: 16-16-27-29

    Expected 3B1H Headseeker damage: 16-16-16-29

3B1H no headshot damage (despite having headseeker on the gun): 16-16-16-27

This is extremely problematic for making builds in PvP, as it impacts the required precision for a 2-Burst kill.

Without headseeker two 1B3H bursts are required to get a 2 burst kill: 2x16 + 6x27 = 194 damage which kills 7-Resilience guardians If headseeker worked properly (always giving the 29 damage headshots), you could kill with a 1B3H burst, and a 2B2H burst: 3x16 + 5x29 = 193 damage which kills 6-resilience guardians

With current headseeker you often get 3x16 + 2x27 + 3x29 damage instead when you 2B2H + 1B3H someone. That is 189 damage which only kills 3-resilience guardians. This is a massive difference as a large portion of the guardians in crucible have 4, 5 or 6 resilience.

This is all assuming the damage numbers aren't rounded (16 isn't 15.5, and 27 isn't 26.5 etc.). If the damage is rounded then headseeker is even more useless as it requires the enemy to have even lower resilience to get the 3B5H kill.

Additionally this is not an issue on other pulse rifle archetypes. They will always get the additional damage on any headshots landed after a body shot. The inconsistency in outcome leads me to believe this is a bug, not an intended feature. If the outcome for each combination of body and headshots was consistent (always 16-16-27-29 for 2B2H, and always 16-27-29-29 for 1B3H) perhaps this could be an intrended aspect of headseeker on aggresive burst pulses, but seeing as it is inconsistent, and there are times when it fails to proc all together (3B1H with normal headshot damage) it must be a bug.

Savathun's viral chant and the "Darkness motif" share some interesting similarities. Bungie's music is so much better than you realize.

    Posted: 03 Aug 2020 10:35 AM PDT

    TL;DR at the end.

Bungie's music is pretty much universally loved by anyone who plays their games, and Destiny/Destiny 2 are no exception. They craft soundtracks that to this day fill us with emotion just by hearing them (looking at you, The Great Unknown). However, their genius goes beyond just sounding incredible. Bungie's music has narrative themes and ideas baked into its very structure. I could write an entire post about how the music in the Stasis reveal trailer is absolutely perfect (I know bungie didn't write it, but they did pick it). Today I want to write about something I noticed about Savathun's viral chant and the something I'll call the Darkness motif.

    Background

I'll do my best to explain all music terminology in a way that anyone, regardless of musical literacy, can understand. I'll be happy to answer questions though.

Savathun's viral chant is now decently well-known by the community. Every single player has heard it. It's in the title screen music, it's all over the Shadowkeep soundtrack (including in the Consecrated Mind boss fight) and yes, it's the "I'm on the moon" song Shaxx sings in the Devil's Ruin mission.

The "Darkness motif" is the name I've given to the short melody that plays during 31:37 of the Beyond Light reveal stream. It's the music that plays during the Witch Queen teaser. You can also hear it in the final cutscene of Destiny 2 vanilla when the Traveler's pulse of light reveals the Pyramid ships. (A motif is just a fancy term for "musical idea".)

    The Evidence

So what do these two melodies have in common besides sounding kinda similar? These two melodies are identical in 2 key ways. The first is structure and the second is the half-step at the end of both lines. I'll explain that second part in detail later.

The two lines share a basic structure in 2 ways. The first is time signature, or the "beat". Both lines are in 2, meaning if you tap your foot to the beat of the lines starting on the first pitch that plays, you'll find there are 2 taps (beats) before the next part of the line. Despite having this beat in common, the Darkness motif sounds slower than the viral chant. This is likely because the tempo (speed) of the notes is slower, but also, more importantly, because the viral chant has more notes. This is where things get interesting.

The Darkness motif is, essentially, a simplified version of the viral chant. I'll explain. The darkness motif has just six notes. It starts on a note, goes up 3 half steps, then returns to the starting note. Think of half steps as fractions of pitches. I'll use the pitch C as an example. If we start on C, the next pitch up in the scale is D. To put it in numbers, its like going from 1 to 2. However, there is a note in between C and D- C sharp. This would be like 1.5 in between 1 and 2. That 0.5 is the half step.

In the first 2 notes of the darkness motif, the pitch goes up 3 half steps, like going from 1 to 2.5. The cool thing is that this exact same thing happens in the viral chant.

Both lines have 2 sections. The first section of the viral chant would be the notes that accompany the lyrics "I'm on the moon" in Shaxx's song. Here's the kicker: the last note being a half step below the first note of the second section is ALSO true for both the chant and the motif. In layman's terms, let's assume the chant and motif start on pitch 1. Both of them will end their first half on pitch 1, and both of them will end their second half on pitch 0.5.

All of that, and sounding incredible at the same time. That is the magic of Bungie's music.

    Implications

So what does all that actually mean in terms of the Destiny universe? You may have guessed it, but it implies that Savathun and the Darkness are closely linked, perhaps closer than people suspect. Savathun has been trying (and failing) to thwart our communications with the darkness all season, yet the music suggests there is more to the relationship between Savathun and the Darkness than may be immediately apparent. My interpretation would be that the common 3 half-step leap and half step descent ending shared by the lines implies that the Darkness and Savathun possibly have similar goals. However, the extra notes in the viral chant to me suggest that Savathun has different means to achieve that goal.

TL;DR: Narrative themes and ideas are communicated in the musical structure of the viral chant and the darkness motif that suggest Savathun and the Darkness have different means to the same end.

I could be extrapolating. I am aware of that. The more I think about it however, the more it makes sense. I guess only time will tell.

Self Proclaimed Hunter Vanguard looking for Warlock to translate cryptic reports!

    Posted: 03 Aug 2020 09:31 PM PDT

Hey everyone, it's me again. Self proclaimed new Hunter Vanguard.

So turns out that may have been a small mistake. Ikora and her Hidden used all sorts of wards to make the office inescapable... Well, or so they think. Cayde had a few ways out she didn't know about but they're also kinda labyrinthine. It still smells of Exo grease and instant ramen in here. In a way it's nice, like the Tower doesn't want to forget him.

In another it is the worst stench ever those smells should never be combined.

Been reading some Hunter reports, trying to keep myself busy in here. At least till I go insane enough that I start giving names to the furniture. Nice work out there guys, sounds like Pyramids are trying to build up to something big. Kinda worries me. The last time that we know about the Pyramids did anything "big", they nearly destroyed us. And the time before that, they erased the entirety of the Eliksni's history. Whatever it is they've got in store, it bodes ill for us.

What else... Oh yeah, looking to hire a Warlock to translate Eris's reports for me. One of the extra bookish types, paying a couple thousand glimmer per page. There's more weird formulas and symbols here than a calculus exam written by the Vex.

Stay safe out there Hunters, and you too Warlocks and Titans. System's going to shit, up to us to make sure it doesn't get flushed too. Steven and I are rooting for you, right Ste- I just named the bobblehead on the desk someone for the love of the Light tell Ikora to drop the wards.

I just replayed the red war campaign and I feel like it is really underappreciated

    Posted: 03 Aug 2020 02:01 AM PDT

Even though the storytelling wasn't too great, I loved the attention to detail in some of the missions. Like how in the first mission you could see the last city ships and the cabal ships fighting in the skybox. Or how you could see the last city frames fighting the cabal. Even though it didn't last very long I loved the second mission where you loose your light. The cinematography in that mission is amazing and I like how they tried something new and unique. Even though the campaign gets a little slow during the middle I appreciate the variety of locations and characters. I thought that Ghaul was a pretty good villain. He had several cutscenes exploring his character (which is more than most other villains in destiny). The music and art style in the campaign is great as always. I might be in the minority but I will miss the campaign when it goes away in beyond light.

Bungie, could we get clarification on what happens to the seals that are tied to content going into the DCV?

    Posted: 03 Aug 2020 07:57 AM PDT

Talking about Chronicler and Blacksmith specifically.

Chronicler is already unobtainable due to Truth to Power taking so long to get, but since that is tied to the Dreaming City and isn't a part of the DCV, it won't be going away.

The only things I need for Blacksmith are the shaders, and there is no guarantee they will drop at all due to RNG. I know forges aren't going away, but since Scourge is, does that mean the entire seal will be unobtainable if I don't get the shaders by November 10?

I understand these have been in the game for a while, but I would just like some clarification on whether or not I'm wasting my time.
