On this day, six years ago, players all over the world began a grand adventure. Since then, over 167 million Guardians have joined our ranks and championed the Light for over 8.6 billion hours.

During that time, this community has answered the call time and time again, raising over $8.5 million for Little Lights and worthy causes all over the world. So, when it comes to defending humanity, whether you're in the 31% that smash, the 31% that love space magic, or the 38% that make cloaks look good, we're humbled that you have chosen to make the Tower your home.

And now, as we stand at the precipice of a new era, ready to step beyond the Light, we should at least have some cake first. So, let's light the candles and celebrate with the friends we've made in this truly incredible community. From the Farm to the Moon, it's been a wild ride and we're incredibly proud to have you at our sides for all of it. Here's to the future – happy birthday, Destiny.

Keep reading for a few birthday surprises to help you join the celebration as well as a couple of updates on new ways to play our favorite game.

    Destiny Birthday Cake

Infinite cake technology still eludes us, but Victoria Rosenthal is getting closer! Not one to slow down after knocking it out of the park with the official Destiny cookbook, she's here to share her "Infinite Forest" Chocolate Cake with all of us. Difficulty: Hard

    Prep Time: 24 hours

    Cook Time: 2 hours

    Servings: 1 cake

    Dietary Notes: Dairy

    Cherry Filling Ingredients:

¾ pound cherries (fresh or frozen), pitted and cut in half

    2 tbsp water

    3 tbsp honey

    ¼ cup sugar

    Image Linkimgur

The night before, combine cherries, water, honey, and sugar in a saucepan. Bring to a boil and reduce to a simmer for 30 minutes (if using frozen cherries, simmer for about 45 minutes). Cook until the liquid has reduced by ¼. Place the mixture in a bowl, cover, and allow to rest in the refrigerator overnight.

    Cake Ingredients:

    ¾ cup cocoa powder

    ⅓ cup cherry fruit spread

    ¾ cup hot water

    2 cups all-purpose flour

    1 tsp baking soda

    1 tsp baking powder

    1 tsp salt

1 cup unsalted butter, room temperature

    1 ½ cups sugar

    2 eggs, room temperature

    1 tbsp vanilla extract

    ¾ cup sour cream

    Image Linkimgur

Preheat oven to 350°F. Whisk together cocoa powder, cherry fruit spread, and hot water in a small bowl. In another bowl, combine the flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.

    Image Linkimgur

Cream the butter and sugar in a large bowl until smooth. Add the eggs one at a time. Mix in vanilla extract. Add the cocoa powder mixture.

    Image Linkimgur

Mix in half of the flour until it just comes together. Mix in the sour cream. Add the remainder of the flour and mix until fully combined.

    Image Linkimgur

Spray two 9-inch baking pans with nonstick spray. Split the batter between the two pans and place in the oven to bake for 25 to 30 minutes or until done. Remove the cakes from the baking pans and allow to cool completely.

    Frosting Ingredients:

1 ½ cups butter, room temperature

16 oz cream cheese, room temperature

    ½ tbsp vanilla extract

    ¼ cup maraschino cherry liqueur

    4 cups confectioners' sugar

    Image Linkimgur

Place the cream cheese and butter in a large bowl and mix together. Add the vanilla extract and maraschino cherry liqueur. Once mixed together, begin to slowly add the confectioners' sugar. Whisk until the frosting thickens.

    Additional Ingredients:

    Fresh cherries to top, optional

    Image Linkimgur

To assemble the cake, make sure both cake layers are level. Place the bottom layer on a plate and top with a portion of the frosting. Add the cherry filling in the center, spreading it close to the edge but not completely. Cover the filling with additional frosting. Top with the other layer of cake. Top with the remaining frosting. Decorate with fresh cherries on top.

    Beyond Light Stasis Deep Dives

Last week, we began unveiling details around the three new Stasis subclasses in Beyond Light. Starting with the Warlock Shadebinder, we followed that up with the Titan Behemoth. The final deep dive focusing on the Hunter Revenant went live yesterday. They're a fantastic read if we do say so ourselves and (much like a fireteam) function as three pieces of a whole. So, in case you missed any, you can find them here:

For people salty about the down time with Interference Finale being postponed, remember the down time between Taken King and April Update

    Posted: 09 Sep 2020 04:27 PM PDT

    6 months.

From September of 2015 to April of 2016, there was no new content added to Destiny (barring Heroic King's Fall and King's Fall challenges which released shortly after). For those who weren't around then, this place was shit to browse. People were out for blood, bringing pitchforks to the TWABs and shouting week after week "TLDR nothing". In April we were given a free mini expansion, consisting of a small quest chain that unlocked a Strike, an updated Arena, and a few new weapons. In hindsight, this was because Activision was pushing hard for Destiny 2, and Bungie had to buy time with not only the April update, but Rise of Iron as well.

Recently, I've seen a lot of people bitching about how bad it is that Bungie postponed the finale of Interference until Beyond Light comes out. Yeah it sucks, but people are acting like this is the straw that breaks the camel's back. I've seen comments like

I was hoping it would come out this week so I could finish it and take a 2 month break before Beyond Light

or some variation thereof. Oh no, instead of playing the game and taking a break you have to...uh...take a break and then play the game?...hm.

To continue, a huge point of contention recently has been the FOMO element. People feeling like they have to play every week since the season is time sensitive and they might miss something if they don't play that week. While I admit that it's a problem, if anything, this is an unintended boon in that regard: 8 more weeks to catch up on missed Interference lore books. 8 more weeks to grind out that perfect roll on must-haves. 8 more weeks to do all the stuff that's going away.

On that point, it's not like it's even 2 months of nothing. Next month we have Festival of the Lost, which historically isn't anything super special but there's new stuff to earn there. You won't be twiddling your thumbs waiting. Honestly, I'd bet good money that you have Triumphs you haven't earned. Emblems you haven't obtained. There's 2,922 triumphs in the game. There's surely something you can find to do to pass the time.

Yeah it sucks that it's delayed. But you can't blame Bungie for wanting to polish the game more due to COVID impacting the world and fucking up how things would've been (if anything you should be applauding the decision to extend the cycle instead of implementing heavy crunch time) just because you can't wait 2 months.

    Happy Birthday Destiny

    Posted: 09 Sep 2020 06:09 AM PDT

Thanks for bringing this amazing universe to life, its been a bit rough sometimes, but the endless exploring, secrets, beautiful vistas, the weapons, the powers, the raids and more importantly the friends (and enemies) we've all made.

I know a lot of people rag on D2, but its a game thats helped me through some rough periods in my life, makes me forgot real life for a bit and lets me feel like the Space Gandalf I always wanted to be.

Here's to more years of fun, overpowered weapons, nerfs, buffs and ridiculous events, I LOVE it.

So after 1,5 years I unlocked The Platinum Starling ship and here is what I think about it

    Posted: 09 Sep 2020 03:06 PM PDT

It is IMO one of the best looking ships in the game and it takes a long time to acquire as well as a big grind...

...and that's EXACTLY how one of the coolest items in the game should be acquired!

Same goes for the taken sparrow from the Dreaming City. Had a blast acquiring it, took a long time/dedication and it is an epic and unique item.

At least one of these items per season or even per year is not too much to ask I think.

Traveler's Chosen Six Rocket Autoloading Combo

    Posted: 09 Sep 2020 05:41 PM PDT

Here is the video if that's all you need.

If you want an explanation, hello!

Traveler's Chosen opens up a LOT of wacky builds, so here's a Hunter loadout capable of unloading six rockets about as fast as you can post-Lunafaction/Rally nerf. To set this up, the critical pieces are Traveler's Chosen, a Rocket Launcher with Demolitionist, and the Sixth Coyote chestpiece. I used Heretic for the RL, but it is being sunset next season, so your only option for a Demolitionist RL moving forward is Hoosegow from Prophecy. (Unless I'm forgetting another RL that can roll Demo)

Demolitionist allows me to throw a grenade after firing the first rocket, immediately reloading the RL thanks to Demolitionist, allowing for another rocket shot. A marksman's dodge followed by a rocket and another marksman's dodge and rocket gets us up to four total rockets fired. Swapping to a 10x Gathering Light Traveler's Chosen and activating its ability restores my grenade and one dodge charge completely. Swapping back to the RL, I can throw a grenade, shoot a rocket, dodge, and shoot my sixth and final rocket, completely emptying my reserves.

Additionally, if you were Nightstalker, (like I didn't think to be for this demonstration) an Oppressive Darkness grenade would add yet another layer to this by debuffing whatever enemy is unfortunate enough to be in front of you.

Traveller’s Chosen WOULD be an awesome exotic weapon for build-crafting in higher level Nightfalls, but it can’t deal with any Champions

    Posted: 09 Sep 2020 03:26 PM PDT

Double primary is no fun, especially when dealing with extremely high health Champions, so Traveller's Chosen barely misses being an option. Please please please please please think about champion properties for exotic weapons being released in the future so we don't have to be disappointed when we get yet another exotic that isn't applicable in endgame content that they SHOULD be applicable in

So let me get this straight...

    Posted: 09 Sep 2020 11:02 PM PDT

In the latest evacuation lore, we now know the conclusion to all soon to be vaulted planets vendors.

Sloane becomes iron man with god powers and shoulder charge the darkness head-on!

Asher solos a GM Pyramidion! Also, finally found that lake he has been talking about for the past 4 years, and turn into a....vex?

Vance pulls a Kratos and stabs his darkness self's eyes out with his own hands! ( he wasn't a bitch after all)

Ana plans to turn Rasputin into the Terminator!( love were big red's arc is going)

I love this game and its lore so fucking much.

What Hand Cannons Need in PvE

    Posted: 09 Sep 2020 12:53 PM PDT

I was a heavy HC user through the first two years of D2. 30k on Midnight Coup, 13k on Duke, 22k on Spare Rations.

I have not seriously used a hand cannon in greater than one year, and it makes me very sad.

    Premise

I'm here today to talk with you about why and how Hand Cannons, arguably the signature weapon of the franchise, are no longer viable in PvE and haven't been since the launch of Shadowkeep.

I haven't seriously used a hand cannon since Shadowkeep has dropped. Sure, on occasion I run one for Unstoppable... not because I want to, and generally with Divinity plus LMG with the latter used as a primary. The HC is a device to handle Champions, nothing more. This is a travesty, but a lot of people don't understand why they feel so bad today. I'm here to change that.

    Definitions

    Falloff distance

This is the distance where damage begins to decrease. Most people only think of falloff in terms of this.

    Falloff damage floor

This is a percent - relative to the optimal range damage - which is the lowest amount of damage a weapon will deal. 100% would be no falloff. 50% means the weapon damage decreases, but only to half of max even at infinite range. 33% means beyond falloff, the weapon will only do 1/3 the optimal amount. This is absolutely key, but underappreciated.

    Precision modifiers

The amount of bonus damage from hitting an enemy crit spot versus body shot.

    Shadowkeep

Compared to Forsaken, the global sandbox changes significantly harmed HCs

    • Precision damage dramatically decreases (haha, Acolytes survive headshots now!)
    • All damage perks nerfed (in combination with prior, ironically making damage perks hard required)
    • Falloff distance decreases dramatically for all archetypes, and all archetypes are relatively uniform with Falloff beginning near 30m. This makes 150s by far the best remaining option.
    • Range stat became trash - was S-tier, now barely does anything and people prefer to stack other stats.

That was bad enough, but there was another change - once which was arguably worse, and truly sealed the fate of Hand Cannons: The single most severe and problematic balance change made to HCs was changing the falloff damage floor to 33% from 50%!

This last point is why they feel so bad now. Beyond around 35 meters, Hand Cannons all hit like wet noodles. In contrast, virtually every other primary in the game has a damage floor of 50%, including SMGs and Sidearms. A stable SMG or Sidearm loses bullet magnetism but can still do solid damage at relatively high range because every shot that hits, is doing half the damage at 100m that it would have done at 10m.

This means HCs have virtually no niche. Out to the mid-20m range, SMGs will do more DPS because they're designed to. HCs technically do better from there into the mid-30m range - but then the SMGs actually win again for all ranges beyond, as the HC damage floor of 33% is so incredibly, unnecessarily aggressive.

Even beyond this, rapid firing weapons are able to better calibrate their damage to any enemy HP pool because each shot does less. It's the opposite of The Price is Right: the lowest amount of damage just above the enemy health pool is optimal.

    Solutions

    1. The falloff damage floor for HCs must be reverted to 50%. This simply must happen.
    2. HCs need differentiation in terms of effective range across archetypes. It sounds like this is already potentially coming, but won't matter if Bungie fails to fix no.1.
    3. HCs need the Range stat to be meaningful. Treating it like a trash stat versus pumping everything into Range should change the falloff range by a minimum of 20-25% (6-8+ meters).
    4. At base and at par with enemies: 150s should one tap everything up to Acolytes. 140s should be more forgiving below Light, and should one tap everything up to Legionnaires. 110s should have much higher effective range and should be very forgiving below Light and two tap Knights at Light.

Thanks for coming to my TED talk! Hopefully HCs are viable again in Beyond Light.

Friendly Reminder, Do your Weekly Bounties

    Posted: 09 Sep 2020 01:12 PM PDT

We've got 9 weeks left in this season, so doing all 6 weekly bounties will net you 1,200 Bright Dust per character each week. Meaning just logging in on one character and doing only those, will bank you 10,800 Bright Dust for the new season. All three characters would bank you 32,400 Bright Dust. We don't quite know how the weekly bounties are getting reworked yet, so might be worthwhile to stock up on Bright Dust while there isn't much else going on in game.

    Beyond Light - Prep Checklist

    Posted: 09 Sep 2020 11:33 AM PDT

    Hey !

The last time I came around was before Shadowkeep, where I shared my checklist website to help you grind the relevant items before Shadowkeep launches.

This time around I doubled down on the features and you can now experience the ultimate checklist for your Beyond Light prep :

    ==> https://destinyrecipes.com/checklist <==

    Goals

    • Provide a clear and easy-to-read checklist to help you prep for the day-one rush of the raid, or any content that may require a fast and effortless grind.
    • Provide a goal for people to help them know when to stop

    Features

    • Track your resources and materials stocks live across all three characters and your vault. Default trackers include the most relevant materials that you will need for your day one prep.
      • Add custom trackers for any item you think you will need to stack
      • You can adjust the amount to your liking
    • A Bounty tracker that tells you how much XP you can stack in your inventory before BL.
      • Shows you how much XP and levels of the season pass the bounties you have completed will grant you
      • Shows you the amount of XP each bounty grants, per character
    • The Mod Tracker will display the "race" mods (Hive, Fallen and Taken specific mods) that you miss
      • These mods can carry, trust me
      • The tracker also displays the compatible gear you have with each set of mods on each of your characters
    • The Glimmer Tracker will show you how much glimmer you have in stock
      • You can stock glimmer in your vault by buying sparrows or ships that give you 5000 glimmer when you dismantle them.
      • Not all ships and sparrows are counted. Only the ones with the most value (giving back 5000 glimmer and 5 legendary shards)

    Prep Score

The Prep Score is the new addition to my checklist. The more you progress towards 100% on the whole checklist, the more points you gain, up to 500. Once you have completed all "100%" goals on the checklist you will start gaining bonus points at a lower pace.

A global leaderboard and a one for your clan are available to see how you place against others.

Note: This feature is brand new and will evolve over time

    DestinyRecipes

The destinyrecipes website is a collection of tools that will grow over time. Right now there's 2 other "recipes" available :

    - Sunset/Power-cap : A tool to check which weapons and which gears will be sunset, and when, with filters and all. Helps you clean your vault.

    - chalice.recipes, which you probably already know

    Bugs

There will be bugs. It's normal, don't panic. Just contact me on u/wobow or '@ChaliceRecipes' on twitter with screenshots if possible :)

    Future Updates:

    - Localization: I cannot translate for every language. The game entities are translated thanks to bungie, but the rest of the website is in english for now. I will tackle this issue in a future update

    - Available bounties: You will be able to see which bounties you have not done yet. Available in the next update in a week or so.

Thanks for you time, and enjoy the checklist. I hope you like it !
