Barricades and rifts need to be faster

    Posted: 28 Oct 2020 02:07 PM PDT

Been playing a lot of comp which has only solidified in my mind just how freaking powerful the hunter dodge ability is. If you're winning a gunfight, a hunter can just press a button and immediately be away from danger while being hard to hit during. Add stuff like invis, wormhusk, Gemini jesters, and how easy it is to have max mobility for super fast cooldown, and it is just such an incredible ability. Which is fine, but when the barricade and rift take about 7.4 years to activate, and they don't get you to safety, it's just an unfair advantage. Cast time for those two should at LEAST be cut in half to make them at least somewhat comparable in value to dodge. That is all

Edit: I play all three classes and feel I'm pretty good at using their abilities as intended, and I'm not ragging on hunters, just think the other abilities need to be sped up a bit to keep them on par

THEORY - We will be getting not just one, but THREE Dark elements and subclasses per class by Lightfall's release.

    Posted: 28 Oct 2020 09:59 AM PDT

WARNING: long text post incoming. If you'd like an overall TL;DR, one will be provided at the very end of this post.

With all of the talk of Stasis, the elements of Destiny are more important than ever before. In this post, I aim to discuss exactly what these elements are, and how it will have major gameplay consequences by the time of Lightfall's release in 2022.

At first, we all believed that each element - Solar, Arc, and Void - corresponded to one of the fundamental interactions of physics - Strong, Electroweak, and Gravitational, respectively. Stasis kind of threw a wrench in that analysis, right?

I mean, we could say that the Electroweak interaction should be viewed as it was in the past, as two interactions (Electromagnetic and Weak) with Arc representing Electromagnetism, but Stasis doesn't really correlate with the Weak force at all. So, we can't use this explanation anymore, right? ... right?

    Wrong.

Instead of theorizing, for a moment, let's look at a quote from Toland's journal. This may seem random at first, but bear with me on this.

"The Void is not the Darkness. The Darkness is what it is. Void energy is like all things of this universe, it is Light seen through a prism. A fundamental force, the vacuum between the stars, the absence of everything else. Just try explaining that to someone who has never walked the Void." — Toland's Journal

Toland was probably the most knowledgeable individual on the nature of the universe of Destiny, so it's safe to say that he had a good idea of what was going on here. He discusses that what we know as "the Void" is actually the Light through the lens of empty space (AKA gravity; I won't get into the physics of it, but particles of gravity comprise empty space according to the theory of Loop Quantum Gravity).

In other words, empty space - gravity - isn't inherently Light or Dark, in the same way that heat and electricity aren't inherently Light or Dark; rather, when we examine the Light through the lenses of heat, electricity, and gravity, we get Solar, Arc, and Void, respectively.

By extension, Stasis must be viewed in the presence of the Darkness. It makes sense; the first (keep this in mind for later) Dark element must be the Darkness viewed through some primal force.

But, before I continue, what is the Darkness? As many know, the Flower Game analogy describes it perfectly: The Gardener (an allegory for the Light) creates and promotes complexity among multiple individuals, while the Winnower (an allegory for the Darkness) destroys and promotes dominance for a single individual (which we know as the Final Shape).

Stasis is shown to produce ice, and therefore, cool things down substantially. Of course, we all know that "cold" doesn't really exist; it's the absence of heat. So, it would make sense that viewing the Darkness through heat would involve taking energy away.

In the same way that Solar energy is the transfer of energy as heat, Stasis energy is the stealing of energy as heat. They can be seen as two sides of the same coin.

If we can look at Stasis as a Dark equivalent to Solar, then what about the other two elements? Why is there no equivalent to Void or Arc, and why are we just seeing Stasis now?

This brings us to the ViDoc that Bungie released yesterday, and the following image from it:

    https://imgur.com/a/1ia0ka6

You can all see it here. This says "Select Darkness Subclasses". Subclasses Plural.

Bungie wouldn't simply push out multiple Stasis subclasses for each class. Not only would that be incredibly boring, it would also make no sense from a practical standpoint; why would Bungie make a whole new subclass for each class that utilizes Stasis when the Stasis subclass is the most customizable of all of the subclasses?

Therefore, this all but confirms that, at some point in the future, we will be getting more Darkness elements and subclasses.

Since we know that Stasis is basically the Dark version of Solar, I believe that, across the Era of Darkness, which will include Beyond Light, The Witch Queen, and Lightfall, we will see all 3 Dark elements for the first time.

With Beyond Light, we will encounter Stasis, which is the deconstruction of heat, on Europa, the harshest, coldest place that we will have been to in the system thus far.

With The Witch Queen, I predict that we will encounter an element I'll coin as Decay, which is the deconstruction of electron transmission and the forces that hold things together - radioactive decay. And what would Decay look like? No other than Soulfire - Hive Magic. What weapon do we know of that causes the gradual decay of Light? That's right, Thorn, a Weapon of Sorrow derived from the Hive Wizard Xyor, the Unwed. Another Weapon of Sorrow we know is Touch of Malice, which eats away at the Light of its wielder and was made from Oryx's heart after we demolished him aboard the Dreadnaught. Even past these Weapons of Sorrow, in Destiny's lore, the term "decay" is most often associated with the Hive, so I believe it's a fair assumption to make (see these Grimoire entries: Hive Champions and Ghost Fragment: Hive).

With Lightfall, I predict that we will encounter an element I'll coin as Relativity, which is the manipulation of gravity to skip through space and even time. What would it look like? Simply put, it's what the Pyramid ships exude. Every time we've seen the Pyramids, they've utilized gravity to draw us nearer (see: the end of Shadowkeep's campaign, and the scene at the beginning of the Season of Arrivals), and even from a metaphorical perspective, throughout the entire season, nearly everything in the system has been drawn to the Pyramids upon their arrival, like how gravity draws things nearer from afar.

But why are we just seeing these Dark elements now?

Remember the post-credits scene, where the Light pulse went all the way to the outer reaches of the system and the Pyramids "woke up"? We "awoke" the Pyramids (the bringers of Darkness) when we reawakened the Traveler at the end of the Red War, and now that they're here, we're seeing these Dark versions of fundamental forces.

So, what can we take away from all of this?

I believe that we will encounter not just one, but three new elements over the course of this Era. When the Pyramids arrived, they brought with them the secrets of the Darkness and how the Darkness manipulates the fundamental forces of the universe. These elements will all be Dark versions of our current elements, and they will all have some significance to what we're doing when we acquire them.

This is both fascinating from a gameplay perspective and a lore perspective. The prospect of getting new subclasses with The Taken King and vanilla Destiny 2 and new supers with Forsaken were both impressive, so the idea of us getting three new subclasses, each with a new elemental damage, is amazing. As a lore fiend, this also interests me, because it means that we could get a new idea of how the Darkness works by acquiring these new subclasses.

And with that, we've reached the end of this admittedly long-winded post. I appreciate those of you that made it this far, even if you skipped through, just to read the TL;DR. I hope you all have enjoyed this theory, and that by Fall of 2021, we'll get to play with 6 unique subclasses!

TL;DR: Stasis is the opposite of Solar. With the Witch Queen, we'll see an opposite of Arc, and with Lightfall, we'll see an opposite of Void. All of these are aspects of the fundamental interactions of physics, simply viewed through the lens of either the Light or Darkness, and we're just now seeing these elements because the Pyramids have arrived to parts of the system. By the end of the Era of Darkness, we'll have 6 total subclasses per class; 3 Light, and 3 Dark.

All Music Tracks Used in Bungie's Latest ViDoc Available Here

Position Music just posted a compilation of the various Trailer-Themes used in the "Forged in the Storm" ViDoc.

So if you're someone like me who liked the background music and wanted to hear more of it, they've got you covered.

Personally, I hope more 3rd-party music providers follow this example, as finding really good stock tracks is impossible when you heard it in a trailer but don't know what the song is called. (Lookin' at you, Season of Arrivals trailer theme that nobody knows what the hell it's called....)

Anyways, tangeant over. Enjoy the tunes.

28 Months Ago Today: "We don’t like keeping some items from experiencing the full Collections treatment, so we’re looking at a long-term solve for storing your exact perk rolls in Collections."

    Posted: 28 Oct 2020 05:06 AM PDT

Is this ever coming? Collections contains 3 seasons worth of fixed rolls, which now leaves 8 seasons (so far) of random rolls for legendary weapons and armor that it does not hold. Since vault slots have also not been expanded in over 25 months - alongside the launch of collections - this would really be a valuable change.

Unfortunately, I don't think we've heard anything about this system in regards to Beyond Light, which leaves me feeling like we may still go yet another year without this QOL change.

    Full Relevant Text Below:

What items from Year 2 can be reacquired from Collections?

With the addition of random perk rolls to items starting in Year 2, we had to make a tough call for Collections. We investigated numerous options for gear with random perks: fixed Collections perks, buyback limits, reroll mechanics, and many others—but each of these came with issues that impacted the Collections experience in a negative manner. Ultimately, we decided to disable purchase of all Year 2 randomly-rolled Legendary weapons and armor.

We don't like keeping some items from experiencing the full Collections treatment, so we're looking at a long-term solve for storing your exact perk rolls in Collections.

This Week At Bungie – 6/28/2018
    https://www.bungie.net/en/Explore/Detail/News/46981

EDIT: Some people are talking about how this might work so here is my idea. When you first unlock an item in collections, that roll should be saved into your collections. Then you can go into the collections itself (to avoid inventory UI clutter) and overwrite the current collection roll for any given item to a different roll that you own. This way Bungie only has to save one roll per item in the collections. Additionally, I would like to clarify that I'm not trying to hold Bungie to this as if it was a commitment, but I would like to have a follow-up discussion on it and if it is still in the works.

So are hunter mains just extremely delusional about balance or have I just run into the bad eggs?

    Posted: 28 Oct 2020 05:26 PM PDT

After years of being away from Destiny I've come back to stop the pyramids as promised and to apparently get harassed by Hunter mains by daring to use Sentinel Shield, getting hatemail saying that it's an OP super. I'm pretty sure it got buffs since I last played but OP it certainly isn't. I was told that it's bounce effect compensates for terrible titans who don't know how to aim and was only able to end the conversation after I asked the person if they'd used Sentinel Shield before because you'll often throw the shield directly at a person only for it to kind of go on it's own direction or bounce off a wall it was never near only to then fly into the void.

Even while doing a raid a Hunter asked me why I was running Thundercrash. I told him that Levi Gauntlet is rather open with the classes you can use because of the lack of bosses and because I found it fun and balanced. This apparently was a mistake because the guy and another Hunter went fill on chimp on me. My defense of Thundercrash was that it was a one off super like Nova Bomb so it's only really useful to counter other supers or to pop and be done. Their attack was that Thundercrash is OP because you can instantly wipe an entire team of people without them being able to fight back. I tried to understand him better by asking. "Do you mean fist of Havoc because bottom tree in PVP can lead to some good killing sprees." and he made damn sure that I knew he was talking about thundercrash, saying it's impossible to shoot the titan out of the air and that they can easily kill 6 players with it. I then said that I've never seen a stack of 6 players elbow to elbow in PVP and that I've been shot out of the air before using thundercrash. The only reply i got was. "Well, it sucks to suck!" I then realized these guys might be a bit off and just ignored and moved on until the conversation came back up again where they asked me my opinion of Sunbreakers. Simple, good at clearing minors in PvE and in PVP the best titan super IMO but it loses out to Golden Gun because of Hitscan>Projectiles and range. This sent the second guy into such a rage that he left the raid with the first saying Golden Gun is the weakest super in the game. I certainly believe golden gun is terrible in PvE, I personally think it PvE it should reload a round every time you kill a major or ultra enemy but in PvP t's just a long range(compared to the other supers) hitscan instant kill. Those are all the key words that make up the best kind of weapons in any shooter. The conversation only ended when it got too much for our raid to keep listening to it after it took one of our members.

And lastly in another raid, Scourge, I saw a fellow titan running rally barricade. I told them that I actually forgot that even existed calling it the most useless class ability and as you guessed the Hunter in our group started acting like that one donkey scene from family guy just blotting out any kind of conversation by saying the worse class ability was the reload dodge because rally barricade does the same thing but you get a wall to hide behind. I know hunters are the most popular class (which just saying started another beef with a hunter who said warlocks are because they're OP,) and therefore will draw in the filth but it seems to be a shockingly high amount. I only ever meet bad hunters with only one nice one I've come across since I've got back. Is this just the Hunter experience?

D1 strikes would be absolutely BRUTAL for Grandmaster Nightfall

    Posted: 28 Oct 2020 10:26 PM PDT

Especially boss arenas. D1 had some tiny boss arenas compared to D2 and outside of Lightswitch & Arc Burn, the GM difficulty and any potential champions in the final rooms would be cruel.

Think about the comparison, what would the 5 hardest D2 Grandmaster NF strikes be? Corrupted, Scarlet Keep, Exodus Crash.... maybe Garden World without the cheese spots, and possibly Festering Core.

Now compare that to the insanity of being stuck in a room with Omnigul, and exploder thralls with more health. Wretched Eye with void singe (that cheese spot would be essential). Sunless Cell with grounded on (and throw champion down there to fuck with people). Echo Chamber and avoiding the arc walls. And finally Fallen Saber with any type of arc singe & captain Champions!

Hell the Blighted Chalice could make this list also.

Luckily some of the strikes had cheese spots or safe areas to run the strikes.... like Cerberus Vae, Winters Run, Shield Brothers & Devils Lair. But the D1 strikes would make Grandmaster hell each week. Granted we have new powers in D2 that we didn't in D1 (rifts, walls, invisibility) and Wells to stay alive or banner shield to absorb ogre blasts.

But these would be much more challenging than Lake of Shadows, Strange Terrain, Arms Dealer & Savathun.
