[SPOILER] Our Ghost is going through hell, it's partially our fault, and it's going to get worse.

    Posted: 15 Nov 2020 01:47 PM PST

    Foreword

I have never been 100% on Team Traveler. Yes, the Darkness is inherently destructive and violent, and has brought humanity to its knees, but I think what the Traveler has done is a lot more insidious. I see the Traveler as a cowardly god: faced with a threat it could not beat on its own, it created life (Ghosts, who are inherently sentient beings) whose sole purpose was to reanimate dead beings, conscripting those beings to fight and die in a war against an incomprehensible enemy, over and over again. My trust in Ghost has always been less than rock solid; sure, he's loyal to us to a fault, but he was made to be that way, and I strongly suspect that part of that attachment is due to both the protection we provide him and the inescapable duty of defending the Traveler he was charged with. Ultimately, we are Guardians of the Traveler; we never asked for this duty, and I do not trust that the Traveler won't just spend our lives if it thinks that our sacrifice might mean that it gets to survive another day.

I say all of that to give you a heads up: take this with a grain of salt. Whether you agree with me will probably depend on a lot of things: how you feel about the Light and Darkness as moral forces, how you feel about whether or not us being brought back to life is a good thing, and how much you enjoy war. I hate fighting (and yet I love Destiny, I know I'm a bit hypocritical), so take from all of this what you will.

    Poison

After completing The Dark Priestess mission, I was taken by surprise when Ghost suddenly apologized to the Guardian for being so negative. It says something to the effect of "Light or Dark, I'm your Ghost, and I'm always on your side."

Up until this point, I had been fairly annoyed with him. He spent the majority of the BL campaign complaining about our use of the Darkness, giving pithy reminders that the Darkness is bad, and basically begging us to stay true to the Light. It seemed to me that he was incapable of seeing just how bad things were getting, how narrow our choices really were. This feeling grew stronger as I dispatched more and more enemies with Stasis, due to the fact that it's literally impossible to finish the fight without it. When Eramis crushes the splinter we carry, inadvertently revealing (with a little explanation from Elsie Bray) that we've always carried the Darkness with us, that seemed to settle the argument. The Darkness was here to stay, Little Light, and if you're gonna tag along with me, you're just gonna have to get used to it.

But then he apologized, and that felt...wrong. It made me realize a couple of things.

    1. The Light may be what gives Guardians power, but it is much more essential to a Ghost than we probably think about on a regular basis. Think about how weak Ghost was after Ghaul caged the Traveler, how drained he sounded. Light is a Ghost's oxygen, its water, its food, the aether of its existence, and Darkness is in direct opposition to it. When we travel through Darkness zones, it probably feels like being plunged into an atmosphere of toxicity for the little guy, like inhaling poison gas. Now, we're carrying that toxicity with us, enhancing it, increasing its potency. Being with us has to feel like being in the room with a tear gas canister for him.

    2. It's bad enough that we're basically poisonous to our Ghost, but it's easy to forget that the Darkness has not just been an inanimate opposing force, as far as he is concerned. It has hijacked his body on multiple occasions. It has turned him against us, borrowed his voice to mock us, and most recently, encased him in ice, rendering him powerless to even move, much less help us. Ghost stands to suffer a fate worse than death, with the Darkness so close by.

Ghost's apology, in this light (no pun intended), feels like battered spouse syndrome. Our path is hurting him, at times robbing him of his very identity, and yet he feels like he has to apologize for complaining?

    Original Slave

The thing I think I forgot in all of my "Traveler is the real monster" theory is that Ghost is just as much a tool of the Traveler in this war as we are. He obviously cares for us a great deal, and it's not too much of a stretch to imagine that he empathizes with our pain every time we die in battle. The Traveler may have made us conscripted soldiers, but it made the Ghosts to be desecrators of graves and architects of suffering. How does it make him feel, knowing that every time he resurrects us, we are doomed to repeat the cycle again and again?

Honestly, I think he's even more of a puppet than we are. At least we have the option to choose the Darkness, to be as good or as evil as is or prerogative, to question the duty we've been charged with. But what choice does Ghost really have? As I said before, the Light is literally his life. Embracing the Darkness means death or worse. His only options are to be a slave, a puppet, or a purposeless wanderer. I know there's a war going on, and that sometimes war makes terrible actions into necessary evils, but this is a shitty existence for a sentient being.

    Guardian's Choice

So there it is: the living being that is bonded to us for our unnaturally long and durable life is being forced to tolerate the fact that we carry the toxic anathema of its existence, and by our actions, we have basically told him "suck it up, this is war." Worse, he has accepted it, cowed to us to the point where he views concern for his life as wrongdoing. There are not words to describe how fucked it is that we have basically broken Ghost's emotional attachment to the thing that gives him life, but like an evil Billy Mays, "just wait, there's more!"

It must be said that though the Darkness is giving us powers, it seems to be giving us those powers in order to fight more and stronger enemies that it also empowered. Where does this cycle end? Do we keep engaging in battle royale, proving ourselves the the fiercest and strongest of the wielders of Darkness until there's no one left to fight, nothing left to destroy? Doesn't that sound familiar?

Let me say it plainly: I think we've taken our first steps in following the Sword Logic. Like Oryx and his sisters, we looked to the Light to save us in our hour of need, and when it failed us, we took up the Darkness instead. Ostensibly, we're using the Darkness to vanquish the Darkness, but now that we have this power, will we be willing to give it up? What incentive does the Darkness have to stop feeding champions for us to slay so that we may become closer to it?

Ghost will feel that, if that's what it comes to. If our Darkness grows, it will likely cause him more and more pain as it does. How much psychological battering from the Darkness - and indifference from us as that battering continues - can the little guy take?

I don't know if the Traveler is completely good, and I don't know if the Darkness is completely evil, but I do know that Ghost is a person. He's an annoying person sometimes, and there's an argument to be made that he should have let us rest in our graves, but it still makes me troubled to know that I might be contributing to his present and future suffering. Two wrongs don't make a right; even if the Traveler is as much of a cowardly god as I believe, I don't want to hurt Ghost, who is a much of a pawn in this game as I am. With the Darkness being part of us, we will always cause him pain; the only way he gets a happy ending is if we win the war and he gets far, far away from us.

I guess what I'm trying to say is, "No, Ghost, I'm sorry. I can't change what I am or what I have to do. All I can say is that I hope this doesn't hurt you more than you can handle."

Sunsetting armor is pointless, greedy for player time, and straight up violates the 'play how you want' mantra.

    Posted: 15 Nov 2020 06:08 PM PST

Why is this a thing at all? Armors have 0 impact on game balance or integrity. It is 100% a player's way to express or flex their customization and gives them enjoyment no matter what mode they are playing.

Weapon sunsetting is way more complicated, but armors... why can't I wear my Reverie Dawn set? or the Prodigal set? Who exactly is impacted by the armor sets players wear? Is it too unfair against the ads to look lit?

If your argument is about making new things worth grinding for, well make them worth it! Whether its the aesthetic or some new function, I don't care. Don't remove perfectly fine sets. I'd happily swap between Y1 sets, Y2, Y3, or Y4 ones...

Give us an answer on this.

Has anyone noticed enemies teleporting a lot since the launch of BL?

I know it's been said many times already, but bungie PLEASE don't nerf the shit out of stasis and other things specifically for PvP.

    Posted: 15 Nov 2020 04:04 PM PST

Balance it separately, or find some other way. The amount of synergy between exotice, abilities, fragments, aspects, and so on is really really good in Beyond Light.

This is the type of things the players LIKE to see. If you want destiny to be popular and fun, encourage players to have fun. You have a track record with over nerfing things (Nova Warp).

Please bungie, this is an easy way to earn brownie points with the community, do the right thing.

    Real Sparrow Talk

    Posted: 15 Nov 2020 06:17 PM PST

Edit: WOW! Thanks for the silver! Never got a reward before!

Edit 2: Holy...thanks for the rewards! Glad others like the ideas!

Sparrows. I use em, you use em. They're cool. They can be cooler.

Weapons and armor have mod slots, so why not mods for Sparrows? Amanda Holliday would be the vendor for these mods and would be the one to help you upgrade your sparrow in order to equip them. Upgraded sparrows would have three distinct mod slots: Manual/Passive/Horn

Manual Mods require activation and are tied to the ability button. Activation costs boost energy.

Passive Mods are constantly active or activate automatically with the right conditions.

    Horn speaks for itself.

I have a few examples of possible mods here. Just food for thought, let me know what you think.

    • Nitro: (Manual) Press and hold the abiltiy button while boosting to overcharge your sparrows engines and gain an additional burst of speed.

    • Lift: (Manual)Press ability button to activate lower boosters and send your sparrow upward for a small jump. Can be used twice before landing.

    • Drift: (Manual) Hold the ability button and begin to drift. Drifting builds up a boost. The longer the drift the bigger the boost.

    • Vault: (Manual) Hold the ability button to dismount your sparrow and catapult high into the air. Can be used while moving.

    • Explosion: (Manual) While boosting, hold ability to ditch the sparrow as it continues for a few yards before exploding at the cost of cooldown.

    • Overshield: (Manual) Hold Ability consume all remaining boost energy to summon an overshield over your sparrow. Sheild strength is dependent on amount of boost utilized.

    • Stealth Drive: (Manual) Press ability button to cause sparrow to briefly become silent and invisible. {Lowers sparrow resilience}

    • Anti-Grav: (Passive) Allows boost to be utilized in mid air.

    • Eject: (Passive) Once sparrow reaches critical damage, automatically transmat off to saftey.

    • Heavy Plating: (Passive) Increased Sparrow resilience {Lowers top speed}

    • Aerodynamic Plating (Passive) Increased top speed {Drastically lowers resilience}

    • Stealth Plating (Passive) Sparrows do not ping enemy radar.

    • Auto Repair (Passive) Sparrow will slowly and continuously repair any damage sustained.

    • Resource Collector (Passive) Driving your Sparrow has a chance to dig up planetary materials.

It's so annoying to have to keep popping the buff. I'm currently sitting at 80. It's no surprise that we can kill Bosses, so why is it still giving us Cores like it's some major feat? Please let us just turn them in.

It's canon in game that Hard Light, Mountaintop, and Gjallarhorn are all OP

    Posted: 15 Nov 2020 07:33 PM PST

In the new crucible armor set, it tells the story of how Shaxx found out about Stasis in PvP. My favorite entry is for the arms:

"It was the morning of the new Crucible season when the shout echoed through the Tower.

Master Rahool flinched, fumbling his engram.

Commander Zavala looked up from his desk.

Kadi 55-30 hurried to steady a haphazard pile of shipments.

In the Hangar, a flock of well-fed pigeons took wing.

    "THEY ARE THROWING NEW GRENADES!""

This was followed by him watching a Warlock get shattered into pieces and commenting "Nice boots" for the leg armor, telling the people of the city that he's worried about the children imitating Stasis, how he believes Stasis is only a tool to be used, and if it's used for evil then the user is truly the evil one, and ending of with this:

""I remember the first time I saw a Hard Light shot bounce around a corner," he began. "The first time I handed over a Mountaintop. The first Guardian to bring Gjallarhorn to my Crucible."

The huge man shook his head fondly.

"I know the powers you hold will soon be commonplace, but I wanted to acknowledge you for being among the first to bring them here. To me."

"Thank you for showing me your crystal columns," he said to a Titan.

"For the swirling maelstrom brought by your staff," he said, nodding at a Warlock.

    "And you!"

He walked to a Hunter in a few long strides and clapped him on the back. The Hunter tumbled to the ground so hard, his weapons reloaded.

"You threw scythes at them!" boomed Shaxx gleefully.

He helped the Hunter to his feet, then turned back toward the group. "May your strength guide us through whatever troubles are yet to come," he said, and saluted. The Guardians bowed.

Lord Shaxx stood proudly for a moment, his hands on his hips. "What are you waiting for?" he cried. "Resume the match!" And the Guardians fell upon each other once more."

Moral of the post: "THROW MORE GRENADES"

Only supers should be able to freeze in PvP, abilities should slow.

    Posted: 15 Nov 2020 03:36 PM PST

All abilities should at most be able to slow, that includes grenades and melee abilities for all classes. PvE this is fine but would help balance the frequency of the frozen mechanic in PvP.

    Edit: getting around pve nerf

They could possibly get around the pve nerf by having the ability to freeze opponents come with a kill requirement. For example, you need to kill 4 combatants effected by stasis before they begin to freeze when using your abilities. Have this reset each life and this turns it into a very difficult task within pvp while remaining very easy to activate in pve.

They often use this method to avoid damage perks (swashbuckler, rampage, etc.) from being broken because to get the maximum benefit you need to get a lot of kills without dying once.

I would like to see a Destiny TV show like The Mandalorian

    Posted: 15 Nov 2020 02:57 PM PST

I love the lore so much, there is so much that goes on in the Destiny universe that we dont even see or are told about in the game and that has always been my biggest gripe. I would love to see a Destiny TV show that delvs more into the lore that we dont get to see. Maybe even a short prequal series of the Golden Age and Clovis Bray, now that we know all the crazy stuff that went on during that period. I think there is a lot of potential in a Destiny TV show.

Resilience testing on Stasis breakout damage: Spoiler alert, it makes a HUGE difference! Videos included.

    Posted: 15 Nov 2020 09:45 AM PST

Bungie wasn't lying when they said that resilience makes a difference on damage taken when escaping stasis ice.

In fact, I'd say they massively undersold it.

    0 Resilience: https://imgur.com/a/6GGRqiv

    10 Resilience: https://imgur.com/a/JLTON6Z

    5 Resilience: https://imgur.com/a/FIsNxQw

It's basically your ENTIRE shields bar.

Does this make resilience the most valuable stat now? Probably not, because I agree they still need to nerf it down. But if you're getting really tired of being frozen, this might be your best bet until that balance patch comes swinging around.

Putting new exotics behind the lost sectors is one of my favorite changes.

    Posted: 15 Nov 2020 09:14 AM PST

Please continue to do things like this. I have been of the opinion that exotics are far to common for a long time now. Initially when I had heard from a friend about to obtain them I didn't quite believe them, I was just so surprised to hear that the new exotics could only be acquired by doing these extremely high level lost sectors. One of my favorite things in MMO games is seeing other players gear and knowing how difficult it is to obtain and marveling at it. We don't get this often in Destiny, so its nice to see this change.

Fun fact: The Vintage Timber and Oiled Algae shaders have unique effects on the Wild Hunt Hood for Warlocks

    Posted: 15 Nov 2020 06:19 PM PST

While other shaders just normally affect the colors of the glows, these two shaders seem to be very special compared to the rest where they have some unique interactions.

Oiled Algae can make the glows cycle from Blue to Red:

And Vintage Timber, which is way more cooler to me, can cycle through glow intensity:

Not sure if there are any other shaders that have special interactions, if you find any then please share any other interesting combinations down below. There are just so many shaders that it becomes so difficult to record them all, or have all of them in your collections.

Whether Necrotic Grip working with Thorn is intended or not, i think the idea of Exotics made specifically to pair up with others is good and fun

I like how both help each other but can still be good on their own, imo, i hope to see more exotics that pair with existing exotics, or even new ones released together.

The Season 12 ornament set is what we’ve been craving for in the armor department, especially the warlock.

Armor like this has been missing from the game since D1. We need more of it!! Keep it up Bungie.

So Bungie changed the Nightfall this week because Exodus Crash is bugged but didn't remove it from the strike playlist?

Can someone explain the logic in this? Why admit it's broken and change the nightfall but not remove it from playlist strikes?

Bungie managed to make an "Overshield on demand" exotic balanced. Well done, team!

The Icefall Mantle Titan gauntlets let you exchange your Barricade ability for an overshield worth approximately 100 health. However, doing this stops your class ability from regenerating, disables sprinting, sliding and double jumping, and keeps those disadvantages until the shield is completely broken (a sliver of green shield will still keep you in slow-mo) or until the 20 second timer runs out. Basically making you freeze bait for all the Stasis subclasses.

They knew an overshield-giving exotic would be hated in PvP so they gave it hefty, awkward feeling drawbacks that will turn a lot of people away from it, while letting those who build to work around those effects make use of the added survivability and the tanky fantasy.

    Tl;dr: It's not the new One-Eyed Mask

[Spoilers] Make sure you keep 4 pieces of crystoscrene armor on one character

    Posted: 15 Nov 2020 02:08 PM PST

It's the "Europa Armor" you get from variks or killing brig enforcers. The quest to unlock legend/master empire hunts will require 4 pieces of it.

Pain Post: if I want to use an arc scout rifle in legendary lost sectors... I have to use a blue

    Posted: 15 Nov 2020 12:55 PM PST

There is not a single non-sunset arc scout rifle in the game.

There are 4 non-sunset kinetic scout rifles in the game, only one is obtainable right now, and it does not roll with Osmosis.

    I just.... ugh

Kindof a weird feeling, that I have to go wait for a blue to drop to get the build I want. Really, really weird.

Firing Line works with the Bratech Frames in Lost Sector E15

    Posted: 15 Nov 2020 06:07 AM PST

Which could help with the Heroic version. Firing Line increses damage by 25% i believe.

    Edit:

Current/Previous Sources of Weapons with Firing Line

Useable in current and future seasons - obtainable

    • Distant Tumulus (sniper rifle) - World drop. Rahool would be a good source to farm.

Useable this season up until Season 13 - no longer obtainable

    • Line in the Sand (linear fusion rifle)

    • Seventh Seraph Saw (lmg)

    Sunset but still obtainable

    • Tranquility (sniper) - Lectern of Enchantment

    • Sole Survivor(sniper) - Still a Gambit related drop i believe
