My opinion: sunsetting is something healthy for the game in the long run, but was executed very poorly.

    Posted: 14 Nov 2020 09:08 AM PST

I know I'm not making friends with this post considering the thoughts that have been echoed here in the last few days but here goes.

I've personally been in the "sunsetting is good" camp since the idea was announced way back when. Let's be real, if nothing was ever done to weapons like mountaintop or revoker or whatever, nobody would ever move away from using them. Whether that means nerf them into the ground or phase them out with better stuff, doesn't matter, they were the top of the top when it came to weaponry. But here's the issue with that. Introducing new weapons that outclass these old pinnacle weapons leads to power creep. Power creep leads to nerfs (because as much as some people want to believe, buffing literally everything else up only makes the power creep situation worse), and nerfs leads to an angry community. Bungie can't win. So their best option is to remove them from the equation. Obviously sunsetting isn't only a thing because of a few specific weapons, I'm just using them as an example.

Here's where the issue with the way bungie implemented sunsetting comes in.

Taking out all those weapons and leaving us with next to nothing to aspire for was a bad move. Obviously we still have the seasonal gear and the raid gear coming (if you haven't looked in the collections yet, the raid gear looks INCREDIBLE design wise, whoever made the weapon models deserves a raise and then some). While I'm not as annoyed at the lack of a vendor refresh as others, mainly because I just end up using the raid gear or seasonal gear anyway and usually dump the world drop gear, I understand why people are annoyed to see long shadow again, though I personally REALLY like long shadow.

    So what's the solution?

I think bungies best option is to bring back the moon gear, and potentially the forsaken gear, as others have said. Give us a reason to go back to the moon or the dreaming city, because as it is right now, they don't serve a purpose anymore.

Please note, this post is NOT AT ALL meant to be toxic towards the devs. While there has been a lot of good, valid criticism here, there's been just as many posts calling the devs idiots or incompetent or saying they should be fired. To those people, that isn't helpful. Being toxic towards the devs helps no one and makes you look childish. This post is just meant to start a discussion. If you just want to be toxic, go away, I really don't want to see you here. What other ways do you guys think bungie can address this?

Thanks for coming to my TED talk.

Edit: To those of you who shared your thoughts, ideas and opinions, thank you very much for adding to the conversation! Here's hoping someone at bungie will see all this feedback. I can safely say I did not expect this post to blow up the way that it did. Also, thanks to a lot of you for keeping it civil! That's the best way to give feedback, not by hurling insults at the devs. Sorry if I couldn't respond to your comment, there's a lot of you and I can't spend my whole day on reddit lol.

There's a Barrier Knight early on in the Forgotten Shore Lost Sector. You can farm him for Stasis kills on Champions solo by loading up the Legend Ordeal.

    Posted: 14 Nov 2020 07:06 PM PST

Just cut your way through the Thrall and he'll be at the end of the tunnel. I've been solo farming at 1213 by tossing a Duskfield Grenade on him -> spin to win til low -> finisher. Then you can just walk out and repeat.

Friendly reminder: Don't parrot youtubers' hyperbolic language

    Posted: 14 Nov 2020 02:32 PM PST

We all know the score here. Its new expansion time. All the youtubers will be racing to get out the most content with the most attention grabbing titles, and the most hyped up rhetoric. "OH MAH GAWD ITS SO BROKEN. ITS GOD TIER. LITERALLY GAME CHANGING. ITS JUST SO DAMN GOOD."

This kind of hyperbolic language seems to spread in the destiny community in a way that it just doesn't seem to in other gaming communities. Then we all wonder why Bungie hands out heavy handed nerfs. Because yes, of course they listen.

They pay attention to their metrics, but they also listen to the community. That is why something with a bit above average statistical win rate (middle tree voidwalker post novawarp nerf), but far from the win rate of the best subclasses at the time got further nerfed. Was it actually OP? Statistically, no. And Bungie had the data to know that. BUT the community was in outcry over how it felt to play against HHSN, so they acted.

If you watch a video where someone says something is SUPER OMG OP ITS AMAZING, don't use that language. Time and time again it leads to widespread confounding data, and hurts Bungie's ability to actually make good balance passes.

Let's help Bungie make the best balancing decisions they can. Temper your language, and try to be realistic.

EDIT: I want to make sure this doesn't devolve into streamer/youtuber hate. I am not calling them out as being disingenuous. As some other have pointed out, it is literally their job to make their content as entertaining as possible. An easy way to achieve that for some is by being very hyperbolic. However, it is on us to provide Bungie with accurate feedback. Don't spread things just because you heard them. Even if your favorite youtuber said so. (THIS GOES BOTH WAYS, POSITIVE AND NEGATIVE)

While there are many reasons, I'm sure one of the reasons Bungie takes so long to balance things is because it takes a LONG time for the community to stop calling good things "overpowered" or "broken." Aside from metrics, the only way to actually tell what is a problem is by seeing what the community still calls overpowered months after its introduction since everything is "overpowered" in the initial craze.

I think tying Exotics to hard Lost Sectors is an awesome idea that should be expanded.

    Posted: 14 Nov 2020 06:05 AM PST

I'm assuming that players will be able to farm the new exotics from the new Lost Sectors. If so, expanding it to other planets would be an awesome way to farm rolls we want. Currently, there's too many layers of RNG.

Edit: Thanks for the Loot kind Exo Strangers.

Just heard Ghost ask me if I was doing ok after I used Stasis, and I think it's amazing they put that in.

    Posted: 14 Nov 2020 12:48 PM PST

Honestly, I was just doing a public event to get some higher level gear, not in a mission or anything, and ghost asked me something alone the lines of "How are you holding up? It must be hard for a Guardian to wield the darkness."

I wasn't in a story mission or quest or anything, and I think the fact that they put that, even small, voice line into the game is great. More of this stuff should be in the game; it really makes the relationship between Ghost and us seem like something genuine, which is what it should be. Bravo Bungie, I'm loving the expansion so far!

Edit: I see I'm not the only one. Bungee has some distance to go but this is still really good. Also, who reported this post for being suicidal? Like, wtf man? Fuck whoever that was.

For those who are trying to solo the lost sectors

    Posted: 14 Nov 2020 01:50 PM PST

Combining Surge Eater and Thermal Overload (seasonal mods) lets you deal with overload champions so easily.

Thermal Overload makes it so your stasis/solar grenades disrupt overload champions while Surge Eater gives back your grenade everytime you disrupt a champion, see the synergy? You can spam grenades on overload champions so they can't regen their health or move at all

This combo works best with Falling Guillotine, the dome stasis grenade and an autorifle with overload rounds.

Just throw the grenade and wait for it to disrupt, when it does your grenade will be ready again but save it, start using Falling Guillotine on the champion, do one spin, 5 slashes, another spin and then throw the grenade again to disrupt, repeat until its dead.

The dome grenade makes it so the champion never moves since its going to keep getting disrupted, slowed and frozen. If you miss your grenade don't worry, just shoot at the champion with your autorifle to trigger Surge Eater and get your grenade back for another try.

Erm... Has someone told Ikora that her teacher is standing on a balcony 9 feet away from her? Does ANYONE know?

    Posted: 14 Nov 2020 02:12 PM PST

You know... Osiris is supposed to be a big deal to Ikora, what with that he literally made her the Warlock Vanguard. So, is she aware that hes not only back in the tower, but stood right next to her? Like you would think that SOMEONE would've put the 2 smartest Vanguard Leaders together and said "Find a solution".

If Ikora "Lets build a Vex Portal and kill the Undying Mind" Rey, and Osiris "The greatest Warlock to ever exist" were to start working together, they could have the Pyramids sorted out by Lunchtime tomorrow. Just saying...

New strike The Glassway is a perfect example of what a strike should be

    Posted: 14 Nov 2020 04:02 AM PST

(btw, this is just my opinion)

First of all, the very first time when I was playing The Glassway strike, I was pleasantly surprised how hard it was. (Of course, I was slightly under leveled) The game made me think a little more about how and where I should move to not die ect..

The level design of the strike is also pretty good! The strike itself is a beautiful place. Lighting in every corner and ESPECIALLY in the boss room was done flawlessly. The sudden change in the environmental lighting in the boss room when the portal opens is very cool and beautiful as well.

I was surprised with the boss. When the small hydra came out followed by a giant hydra, my reaction was "Oh. OH.". The boss battle for the first time was super fun, challenging and lengthy.

I wish bungie will make more strikes like this. This is one step towards making strikes great again!

Yes, Thorn is suppose to do that.

    Posted: 14 Nov 2020 08:05 PM PST

In case you're unaware, Thorn paired with Necrotic Grip is causing the DoT to spread on a thorn kill. Basically making it a Firefly/Sunshot effect with corruption. Some people think this is a bug. It's not. I'm like 90% sure. Why?

    L O R E

From the words of the gauntlets themselves:

Project day 65. Another accidental discharge today. We realized that Yor's little creation is hungry, so we fed it more. It certainly performs in exchange; the activity is intriguing after it feasts. I've been able to follow Yanniv's degradation with a more analytical mind than when we lost Carro. I have to say, the process is so elegant; the science involved almost seems poetic. It may be reproducible. Just imagine how much more I could've learned if the scanners were all active at the time.

They're Dredgen Yor's gauntlets. Of course they pair with his gun. And if they're actually suppose to, it's one of the coolest things Bungie has ever done.

It also could be a hint at the next Darkness subclass imo. This decay/corruption effect is already linked to a previous guardian who used darkness, and the hive also have forms of it with their poisonous wizard AoE's. I'm calling it now, Y5 subclasses will be decay/corruption.

    Posted: 14 Nov 2020 04:54 AM PST

I leave, Sparrow about, and then I see another fucking Sparrow

I can shoot it, I can destroy it, but they never despawn, they just fucking lie there

Gambit is currently in the best state it has been since launch

    Posted: 14 Nov 2020 09:57 AM PST

    Title.

I know the community isn't exactly the fondest of Gambit, but in its new and improved state, it is currently the best activity in the game (in my opinion).

The new envoy system allows for quicker games, and it really makes it so everyone must do their part to truly win. Compared to the current state of crucible, it is spectacular.

Me personally, I never really disliked gambit strongly, although I will admit to being tired of it before this season. If anything, I think this had to do with basing an entire season around the gamemode, as well as multiple quests. But now gambit feels like it's in the state it was intended to be from the start, and I love every second of it.

EDIT: rip inbox. I would like to clarify that it's still not in the best state it could be in. It still has tons of room for improvement, but i think it's current state is better than where it's been before. There are still some glaring problems with the gamemode (invasions, mote drain, if you fall behind it's almost impossible to catch up), but that's not to say the mode has not improved dramatically.

    Behemoth Titan Quick Tips

    Posted: 14 Nov 2020 06:37 AM PST

So I keep seeing posts and comments talking about how bad this new stasis subclass is for titan, the melee never hits, it's just reskinned arc titan, etc. Ironically, I think this sublcass has the most depth of any we have for titan. Plus, we still don't have everything unlocked for the subclass. The biggest problem it faces, in my opinion, is that it is presented in the most unclear way possible, especially when you first try it out without having access to any of the tooltips or any idea how any of it is supposed to work.

So below are a few things that I've picked up, personally, as well as in seeing other folks explain how this subclass works and I hope it helps titans out there realize how awesome this subclass really is because, let's be honest, the game doesn't do you any favors:

    Shiver Strike (Melee)

    • The best explanation I've seen for this melee is that it works like a breech-loaded grenade launcher. You activate the ability and hold down the button, releasing when you want to punch. An important note is that it works like a ranged melee like mid-tree Sunbreaker throwing hammer (you are the projectile) so you need to have a little distance between you and a target in order to activate it.
    • While you are holding the melee button, your titan will quickly fly through the air, providing some great mobility. Once you let go, the actual aim assist on this melee is incredibly strong, however, what I have noticed is that there is a short animation before the punch/aim assist while you still have forward momentum. So you want to release just barely before you would punch your target, otherwise you'll overshoot. This last bit is what I think is tripping people up the most, understandably, because there is nothing to tell you it works this way except practice.
    • Any stasis shards in between you and your target will be destroyed, dealing significant AoE damage so it is good to look for targets on the other side of shards (you'll see frozen targets with a red "target" on them like a tether would), especially if you can hit multiple enemies with the intervening stasis bursts.
    • While the punch is generally only going to hit one target, there is a small slow AoE around the point of impact. The slow doesn't last terribly long but is a nice benefit to further encourage looking for groups to hit with this melee.
    • The movement you get from this melee is so huge, you may even want to just use it for extra mobility, especially in PvP and/or when using something like Monte Carlo.
    • The melee is going to one hit weaker red bar enemies but not stronger ones or guardians. That's okay because it will slow what it doesn't kill and will also knock them back and into the air very far. If you're prepared for this, you can use it to launch enemies to environmental kills or just ready follow up shots from a primary for when they are sailing through the air.

    Glacial Quake (Super)

    • The damage on the melee in this super is good and seems to allow you to fly about twice as far as the normal melee, though it mechanically functions the same as shiver strike otherwise. Because of this, it is good to master shiver strike as you'll be relying on this mechanic a lot in this subclass.
    • The melee seems to one hit guardians in PvP so you can rely on that there and really lean on that extra mobility.
    • However, you seem to get the most damage out of bursting enemies and shards, which is what this super excels at. This is what your heavy attack is for - not just AoE control but spreading shards over an area.
    • While you can use the melee ability to charge through shards which are further away, one of the perks of being in this super is that you can sprint through frozen enemies and shards to deal big damage. This is amazing at add clear and also allows you to deal additional burst damage without burning through more super energy.
    • Speaking of, this super lasts forever. Definitely take advantage of the extra mobility it provides and lean on the ability to easily burst enemies and shards while running around.

    Cryoclasm

    • If you don't yet have cryoclasm, it allows you to slide about twice as far as normal in the same time window with a very short internal cooldown (it seems to be about 2 seconds per "charge" but you can use it twice in a row). Additionally, you will burst any stasis shards you slide through. Once you get this aspect for behemoth, the subclass really comes alive. I cannot understate how amazing this ability is.
    • You can still use cryoclasm in your super for a burst of speed and/or use it to burst shards. Of course, you can also combine it with the other options to really get some crazy mobility while in your super.
    • I've also found this ability an excellent method to engage/disengage since you move so far, so quickly. It's really saved me quite a few times in both PvE and PvP already and, of course, being the absolute no-skill casual I am, was really great for sliding in for shotgun kills in PvP.

    Grenades

    • The classes all share a grenade so I won't talk about all of them but I really recommend the glacier grenade for this subclass due to the focus on bursting shards. Having it available while you're in super is a nice way to quickly drop some shards for extra damage without using super energy.
    • This works for all classes as well but with glacier grenade you can drop it at your feet while jumping to get a huge boost into the air, which you can then follow-up with a shiver strike or your super melee to fly ridiculous distances.
    • You will also get access to a fragment which increases your grenade ability recovery when you burst enemies or shards. This combined with cryoclast and your super will get you tons of grenade energy back so you can keep freezing and shattering. Of course, this is even better combined with other ways to recover grenade energy (e.g., heart of innermost light, demolitionist).

And that's all I have for now! Hopefully this is helpful to any guardians which might be frustrated with the subclass. I'll be honest - I absolutely hated it at first, myself, but it has really grown on me and might be my favorite titan subclass. Definitely correct me on anything that doesn't seem right or leave any other tips for other titans.

TL;DR: Just read the first couple bullets for shiver strike. Once you get that figured out, the rest of the class starts to click.

Bungie, if you refuse to add a third travel point on Europa at least make my sparrow go 200.

Bungie, letting me get enhancement prisms in the crucible feels great

The ghost mods already are awesome but even though they are rare, I looove seeing an enhancement prism show up on a headshot, feels really good. Thanks.

Edit: Thanks for the upvotes, hopefully the team that designed this sees this!

Items that come from Paid Expansions should never sunset while Seasonal Items do.

For the love of god, stop making me grind weapons I already have a good roll of by not updating previously acquired loot. Who finds that fun?

Previously acquired raid loot this season has an updated infusion cap than the last. It is not a minimal issue, it's literally 3 months of playing with something I grinded for. Talk about disrespecting the player's time.
