Hey Banshee can you please cool it with the damn Linear Fusion Rifle bounties already?

    Posted: 07 Dec 2020 12:27 PM PST

Signed, a guy who hates having to pull out a LFR from his vault and then jump between flags just to have enough ammo to farm this bounty.

Three years ago today, the mighty Guardians turned the fabled Crucible into a burning red wasteland with the mighty Prometheus Lens.

    Posted: 07 Dec 2020 03:18 PM PST

Three years ago, not long after Curse of Osiris released, one weapon was shipped in a broken state. Those lucky enough to receive it dominated the PvP scene enough to make Shaxx himself cry. All other unlucky guardians were forced to bow to the infamous Prometheus Lens exotic trace rifle. That is, until one fateful weekend...

Xur returned to his campsite in the EDZ on this day, toting the fabled weapon in his backpack. His will is not his own, and this led to the great Laser War that ensued in the Crucible that very same weekend. A war that burned many bridges, not to mention bodies too. Some say that if the Lens was never fixed, we could have used it to push back the Darkness in a blaze of orange glory. But the Architects deemed the burning flame "broken" and "bugged", and after that crazy weekend the strength of this magnificent rifle was toned down to give everything else a chance to take its throne.

Since that weekend, the event has been immortalized in the form of an emblem for those who participated in the Prismatic Inferno of 2017. So, today is the day to wear that emblem with pride, and show that you were there for one of the most adrenaline-filled and psychotic events in Destiny's history.

If players have to complete a puzzle (no matter how trivial) to allow them to open a chest in a patrol zone, the chest should not contain exactly the same thing as every normal chest in that patrol zone

    Posted: 07 Dec 2020 08:07 AM PST

Why should I run around activating consoles to open a chest that has the exact same loot pool as the chest 20m away that I can just open and move on?

Or, why should I bring arc charges to the chest in Dreaming City when it has the exact same thing that the 5 chests (not an exaggeration) I can open while moving between the bowls with the arc charges and the puzzle chest?

EDIT: Looks like I struck a bit of a nerve. Glad to see it wasn't just me.
Thanks for the upvotes and awards.

Playing enough to charge 18 lures and not getting a single gun you want in any of the lure options feels like shit.

    Posted: 07 Dec 2020 04:52 PM PST

9 crucible games -> try 3 lures -> No friction fire -> Repeat.

Who designed this gameplay loop? Didn't they realize it'd be absolutely terrible?

Clovis Bray and the Exo program is the reason the Traveler didn’t flee. Clovis truly is humanity’s savior.

    Posted: 07 Dec 2020 05:31 AM PST

TL;DR: Clovis Bray discovered how to use death to preserve life, upsetting the defined order of the universe and adding new rules to the game between the Traveler and the Pyramids.

After reading through the lore, listening to Byf's interpretations of it, and hearing the raid/Exoscience AI dialogue, I'm convinced that the reason that the Traveler didn't leave when the darkness first arrived is because it finally found a species that had legitimately sidestepped entropy — using the darkness — without succumbing to the darkness itself.

According to the darkness itself, the paracausal entities of Creation and Entropy created a balance in the universe, with their opposing purposes creating a dominant patters of life and death, beginnings and endings. Unhappy with with the finality of the pattern and demanding more opportunities outside of the pattern to create life, Creation manifested itself in the physical universe as the Traveler. In response, Entropy disagreed, claiming the perfection of the pattern (or shape) and manifested itself the Pyramids. They have been fighting ever since to prove which is ultimately correct.

Clovis Bray's obsession with immortality has unwittingly put his efforts inline with the Traveler. The darkness drove him to Europa and burdened him with the thirst for more information and power — which was then ironically used to create perpetual life. Somehow, I don't think that was part of the darkness' plan.

It's important to note that the Exos are actually alive. They are not artificial, but identified as living beings by the force of universal creation. This is huge. Clovis Bray, a man with only a 300-year lifespan, who was constantly dying from degenerating health while perusing life, saw a path to unify both Creation and Entropy.

This is why the Traveler stayed. This is why it defended Sol and abandoned the Eliksni and the moons of the Fundament.

I'm probably wrong. What're your thoughts?

Edit: Holy crap! Front page? At work; I'll take a look at comments as I can!

Empire Hunts should count towards Lure charges

    Posted: 07 Dec 2020 04:40 PM PST

If it is currently obtainable in the game, it should NOT be sunset. End of story.

    Posted: 07 Dec 2020 05:02 AM PST

All Forsaken content and Shadowkeep content apart from Last Wish and Garden of Salvation is completely pointless.

This is the sole problem of sunsetting, imo.

Only, ONLY if it is not currently obtainable by any means in game should it be sunset.

This means, ALL Forsaken and Shadowkeep legendary gear.

Infusion limits on gear that is paid expansion content that currently exists in the game should automatically update season by season.

Only if that content gets Vaulted should it ever get stuck at the infusion cap it was at at the time of vaulting.

There is a lot of great content in the game, (Shattered Throne, blind well, moon alter gear, Pit of heresy, Alters of sorrow, even spiders lost sector bounties and the associated tangled shore gear) that has no reason to play it anymore. And it's sad.

This should NEVER be the case for paid dlc content. Ever.

You should be able to play anything that's currently in the game and get non sunset gear.

Even the drifter's weapons. Trust, Bygones... Those should not be sunset either.

They are obtainable in game by gambit rank ups.

    And to reiterate:

If it is currently obtainable in game by ANY means, it should NOT be sunset.

With the exception of the legendary pinnacle weapons from the kiosk near the vaults. They are sorta pseudo exotics and imo were a bad idea from the start.

(But hey, can we have plan C back in the game with Loaded questions perk as well as back up plan???)

[Tower Thought] Blue weapons from Forsaken are dropping at 1200+ light, meaning they're immune to sunsetting unlike their legendary counterparts. This means blue weapons are more versatile and powerful than legendaries.

    Posted: 07 Dec 2020 06:58 AM PST

They share the unlimited infusion quality that exotics have and have no end date. We might as well just stick with blue gear from now on. Some have some pretty good stats and rolls.

Edit: To those taking this post a little to seriously, it's light humor at the idea of that blues we got during Forsaken are currently stronger (in light level) than the legendary Forsaken weapons.

That being said, it sounds like many Guardians have a fond appreciation for a lot of blue weapons and we shouldn't be so quick to judge these static rolled beauties.

Next seasons Vendors should be Shaxx, Drifter and Zavala.

    Posted: 07 Dec 2020 05:11 PM PST

Core activities are a massive part of the game and a staple for enjoyment after finishing any new content drops.

The vendors to said activities need some serious endgame weapon chasing TLC a permanent menagerie style reward system based on completion of core activities would fit in perfectly earning "crucible/vanguard/gambit runes" instead of tokens, earning loot caches and bringing them to your vendor for loosely targeted loot after games, each vendor having different sets of weapons heck you could even use the world loot pool for this to keep it fresh and easy to maintain season to season.

    Just a idea.

Maybe i just i want more loot maybe i just miss menagerie, these stars in shadow drops are starting to build up.

Shaxx having a secret Ahamkara sanctuary would be the best thing destiny could ever pull off.

    Posted: 07 Dec 2020 10:30 PM PST

Mans sits next to an Ahamkara skull all the time. Why? He is probably guilty about contributing to the extinction of an entire race. Heres some lore:

Venus. A year into the Great Hunt.

Eris and Zavala watched as Shaxx sat with the dying Ahamkara, a hand on its snout.

    "Is he gloating?" she asked.

"I think he is too pragmatic to gloat." Zavala said.

    "Mourning, then."

    "Perhaps."

The Ahamkara twitched, its eyes rolled up into its head. The biochemical glow just beneath its skin grew harsh. Zavala and Eris raised their hands against the increasing glare.

Then the corpse exploded. Dirt showered the Guardians like dusty rain on a clear day.

Shaxx sat silently in the resulting crater, covered in a sheet of green fire.

Zavala and Eris opened their mouths to speak, but Shaxx interrupted them.

"Shh," he said, as the flame quietly roared.

They could all hear a disembodied whisper. But they were used to that by now.

Shaxx obviously respects these creatures enough to give them a respectful send off, and likewise feels remorse for dispatching such amazing creatures. He is very capable of caring for others unconditionally, as shown by the lore between him and Felwinter during the iron age. The only reason he was tasked with killing them was because people were making wishes that became dangerous to the people of the city. If no one but Shaxx knew that there were Ahamkara still alive, he could raise them safely.

I would love if reaching legend in competitive or doing something involved with next years story where we get to know Shaxx would result in him sharing with us the location of an Ahamkara sanctuary, where we can frolic with them in vast plains. Shaxx is my favorite character, and he deserves more in-game content to demonstrate his heart of gold.

    That is all.

An expansion later, and we have received negative PvP content

    Posted: 07 Dec 2020 06:59 AM PST

    •Removed many Crucible maps

    •No new Crucible maps

    •Sunset almost all weapons

    •No new game modes

    •No Trials of Osiris

As a PvP player, I am used to getting less content and attention from Bungie compared to the focus they put on the other side of the game, but what did we even get this expansion?

Edit: Can't forget the recycled Iron Banner content, as per usual

Lumina should be able to free your teammates from Stasis in the Crucible.

    Posted: 07 Dec 2020 03:38 PM PST

Stasis is here to stay. So is being frozen, slowed, pulled, and damaged from a single Stasis grenade. Lumina is a weapon of Light, and it would be very canon for it to be able to free your teammates from darkness effects. Plus it would add at least a little bit of realistic utility to the weapon that it desperately needs, and let those of us that want to be space healers indulge ourselves!

EDIT: Thank you for the awards fellow Lumina enthusiasts, one day we will have our time to shine, bestowing Lumina buffs on the needy like a space medic Santa Jesus!

Open world chests should have a chance to drop ammo bricks

    Posted: 07 Dec 2020 09:48 PM PST

We all search for flags for ammo when embarking on an adventure, chests go ignored. The loot in the chests is lackluster. Why not provide a chance of ammo in the chests?

    A Sherpa Love Story

    Posted: 07 Dec 2020 06:19 PM PST

This week body positivity has been a thing in the destiny community if you've been on Twitter recently and it just made me happy to hear about so I'm going to spread the love even more so I came onto Reddit for the first time as Twitter won't let me write as much to share my experience and my feelings to this destiny player. This post is for the community and how amazing both them and the game are.

This boy around the same age as me I met in a crown of sorrow back in the summer after I had tried to do the first encounter a few times with several other teams but all of them were obnoxious and they were shouting at players that they were teaching... Then I joined this random boys and the atmosphere totally changed.

He was lovely to everyone, reassuring that it's fine if we die or make a mistake and he has the time so no one has to worry about being pressured. I'm not going to say his gamer tag as it is literally his real name. After we did the raid in under 2 hours, he then offered to teach us last wish. We did that the next day. He then offered to teach us scourge then garden then eater then the raid with spire in the name but I can't remember for the life of me what it's called. Honestly he was the nicest sherpa I've ever played with and I finally started talking to him again after a couple months of a break.

Now in beyond light, I asked Tom for his help with a couple exotic quests mainly because I wanted to talk to him again I'm not a bad player I swear. We started to talk about everything going on whilst doing the salvations grip quest and we finally got to the last room where you had to grab the gun but we never actually did. We ended up talking in the PlayStation party chat for what feels like forever and we both got really personal with mental health, family life, coming out about sexuality and depression cause every teenager seems to have that these days lmao and that is when I learned he was gay too - when I tell you I was happy to hear that... it was an understatement.

We want to meet up as soon as both our areas come out of Tier 3 lockdown over here in England and we can finally meet. My days haven't been better as we FaceTime most nights. If this works out, Destiny will literally have changed the way my life has gone if it hasn't already.

The point of this post is to remind everyone reading this that this community is just amazing. Positivity is what we need right now in times like this and games like Destiny bring people together and create long lasting relationships with special meanings. Thank you for reading this. Be nice to everyone you play with as you both can open up and become someone you permanently raid with to each other.

In the end us solo players just want to find that person with similar interests for the game.

I still can't think of a single valid justification for multiple infusion caps for identical/reintroduced gear

    Posted: 07 Dec 2020 09:28 AM PST

    ...besides inflating playtime.

As a community we hold a variety of opinions on sunsetting and its different aspects, ranging from absolutely anti- to absolutely pro-, with plenty of space in between for nuance. I think valid arguments can be made from 'both' sides on most aspects, even though I have my own opinions. We'll never achieve consensus on most of it. But I have yet to see a single person in favour of allowing multiple infusion caps for different copies of a weapon. The most commonly cited example is Gnawing Hunger being 'reintroduced' last season with a 1360 infusion cap but an identical perk pool to the 1060-capped Gnawing Hungers players had obtained previously. There were in fact dozens of weapons that received this treatment, including raid gear. This season we've even seen the raid gear infusion caps bumped up by another 50 levels, so even the drops we got last season are less useful than what we can get now.

I consider myself a rather effective Devil's Advocate, but the only valid justification I can think of for allowing multiple infusion caps for identical gear is that it's a good way to get us to re-grind for the same weapon we already have. But even from a greedy corporate perspective, does the inflated playtime really make up for the consumer dissatisfaction and potential abandonment? I can't imagine it does.

One of the main justifications for sunsetting is that it prevents weapons from staying in the meta for too long, instead promoting variety over time. But reintroducing weapons with identical perk pools completely violates this. Maybe there's nothing wrong with violating it, especially if they're reintroducing weapons that aren't meta-defining anyway. But there is no reason our old copies of the weapons should sunset any sooner than the new ones. It should not matter when we received the weapon; it should only matter when it was most recently (re)introduced. If they don't want Gnawing Hunger to be used past 1360, why cap some of them at 1060? Bringing the 1060s up to 1360 would have zero effect on the weapon's longevity.

When a weapon is reintroduced without any new features, previously obtained rolls should be automatically updated to the new caps. Or there should at least be a way to use in-game currency/materials to update old rolls to the new cap, if they insist on milking us for playtime. It's that simple. If anyone has a valid argument against this, I would genuinely love to hear it. To me this the most glaringly obvious misstep with sunsetting and even from a pro-sunsetting perspective it makes no sense. I know it's been brought up many times before, but so long as it continues happening I feel we should continue bringing it up.
