What's better: One gift, or a bunch of gifts?

    Yeah. We thought so too.

Today we're releasing a few exciting things to enhance everyone's Destiny 2 experience. Whether you're a seasoned Guardian or a New Light, this is a great time to explore the world of Destiny.

Kicking off the free updates are the next-gen optimizations originally announced during the launch of Beyond Light. These start with cross-play functionality that enables Xbox One owners to play with Xbox Series X|S owners and PlayStation 4 owners to play with PlayStation 5 owners. Guardians are immediately able to journey to Europa with everyone upgrading to next gen.

Additionally, the new consoles tap into their cutting-edge hardware to vastly improve load times throughout Destiny 2. Everything from launching the game to opening menu screens and navigating through inventory became snappier and more responsive.

The optimizations arriving today bring even more to the next-gen table (it's a floating holographic table).

Stunning 4K 60 FPS is now available on Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5. Not only that, but on supported displays, there's even an optional 120Hz Crucible Mode that cranks things up to 120 FPS during Crucible PvP matches.

Another first for Destiny console players is also landing today: Custom field of view settings. Now, the power to fine tune a Guardians field of view from narrow and focused to wide and perceptive is available on console.

Upgrade from the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 versions of Destiny 2 today absolutely free.

Next up is the new Destiny 2 Companion App. This time-saving app allows players to swap gear loadouts, retrieve lost items from the Postmaster, manage clans, track progress, discover when events go live in game, find fireteams, and much more.

Today's update adds the ability to acquire bounties prior to an activity while they're hanging out in the Tower, floating in orbit, or even completely offline. Want to launch Destiny 2 and get straight to the action? Grab those bounties in orbit, at the Tower, or before logging in.

Download the app on iOS and Android today.

4K 60 FPS activated, Companion App installed, field of view locked in? It's time to go get Hawkmoon. We called our shot on the Season of the Hunt page and now the quest is live. The fan-favorite Exotic from the original Destiny returns – time to hunt the Hand Cannon that makes every bullet count... some more than others.

    Image Linkimgur

Last but not least, the Prophecy dungeon is back! The stylish dungeon originally released in Season of Arrivals returns and is available to all players. Whether you were too busy trying to save entire planets from the Pyramid ships or you're new to the Destiny community (welcome, btw), everyone who missed out when it was first launched can now take a ride down the rainbow road.

Thanks for reading and thanks for playing. Enjoy the holidays!

Taniks Counts As A Heavy Shank

    Posted: 08 Dec 2020 08:35 PM PST

I had a bounty from the Crow for killing heavy shanks and it completed when we killed Taniks. I feel this is important information that the world must be made aware of.

Destiny 2 Dev Update - Rewards

    Posted: 08 Dec 2020 08:00 AM PST

    Source: https://www.bungie.net/en/News/Article/49957

    Hey everybody,

My name is Joe Blackburn, and I'm the Assistant Game Director on Destiny 2. If your free time looks anything like mine, you've been spending a lot of it on Europa over the past few weeks. Some of you may know me from my previous Bungie life when I worked with the raid team and on Season of Opulence. I'm back thanks to a revive from Luke and team as we work together to create a Destiny 2 future that we're all excited about. Today I want to spend some time with you on a subject that is near and dear to every Destiny 2 player's heart: rewards.

There's a thing I ask a lot around the virtual office, "How are we making every Season the best time to jump back into Destiny?" Destiny is a very large and complex game, and while this is what also makes it a game we love, we want Destiny 2 to continue to evolve, to be a world with momentum.

Introducing Infusion Caps is part of addressing this, a way to make sure that the overall number of rewards Guardians need to care about in order to be competitive in Destiny isn't prohibitive. It is also a way to continue evolving each season's meta, while at the same time making sure players still have a ton of options when choosing what they want to bring into the next challenge. Our goal from the beginning with Infusion Caps is to improve and keep Destiny 2 fresh over time - what we're most looking forward to is how this system will introduce innovation to the season-over-season meta, how creative builds from the community will shine, and how we can continue to deliver more unique hand-crafted gear that aligns with the world narrative and where the universe is going.

While we still are hard at work on improvements to how we rotate gear out of the Destiny Power ecosystem (what gear you can infuse to max Power), there were a few clear-cut misses with our first rollout.

    • The initial reward pool with this release was just too small.
    • It's frustrating to be playing Destiny and see another player use a weapon that is no longer obtainable in game.

I'm going to spend a lot of time talking rewards, but before we deep dive, let's get the TL;DR out there. These are the big commitments we're making today.

    • With each season in Year 4, Destiny 2 will grow the overall Power ecosystem for weapons.
    • With very few exceptions, all weapons you can take to the Power cap should still be earnable in game.
    • Future annual releases will contain more new weapons to collect than Beyond Light or Shadowkeep.

    Growing the Power Ecosystem

With Beyond Light we took on the huge challenge of rebuilding our technology from the ground up. One of the benefits of this was improving the speeds with which we could make and update Destiny. You've already seen some of those gains since launch, with updates such as buffing the Legendary engram coming in much faster than we've been able to do in the past. But Season 13 will be here in just a couple of months (very soon in the world of Destiny development), so let's talk about how we are continuing to leverage our technology to act with agility.

Season 13 is the first chance for us to prove our commitment to growing the overall Power ecosystem with each release in Year 4. We want to make sure that, with each new season, there are more weapons to take with you to tackle that Nightfall Ordeal or Master Bunker E15 than there were before.

While I won't be spoiling what new stuff you'll be able to chase in our next season, I did want to touch on a few changes we've made to the reward offering specifically based on what we've seen in Beyond Light.

    • In Season 13, we're adding six new Legendary weapons to our ritual activities, two each for strikes, Gambit, and Crucible.
    • In addition to the weapons above, Nightfall strikes are getting three unique weapons, with The Palindrome, The Swarm, and Shadow Price all making their Destiny 2 debuts. If you're brave enough to take on Grandmaster Nightfalls, you will be also able to earn Adept versions of these weapons.

    Keeping Current

Season 13 not only represents the start of our commitment to growing the Power ecosystem, but it also is an opportunity for us to improve how we can keep Destiny accessible to new players. New Guardians are essential to the health of our community and, as with our investment in features like the "New Light" introduction on the Cosmodrome, we must also invest in making sure the reward structure of Destiny is approachable to everyone.

In a recent patch, we added the Season 10 and 11 weapons to the world drop pool and we removed the Season 9 weapons. This was important for a few reasons.

We want to make sure that players have a way to earn all Power-relevant weaponry in the live game. If a group of new Guardians is just getting into Grandmaster Nightfalls and they see guides on YouTube involving Warmind Cells, we need to provide a path for them to participate.

At the same time, we don't want to be clogging up the reward streams with weapons that are about to exit the Power ecosystem. So anything that's only going to be around for a few more months shouldn't be something a player can accidentally obtain.

In Season 13 we will continue to allow all players to gain Season 11 and Season 12 weapons in the world drop pool while Season 10 weapons will be obtainable through a more prescriptive source. This means that Legendary engrams will no longer reward these soon-to-expire weapons. If you want to chase a specific piece of soon-to-be-capped loot, you'll find it with the Gunsmith. This is all part of our larger commitment to making sure that players can always earn anything they might need to take on challenging activities. That said, this will require a few exceptions and some updates to the live game.

As far as exceptions, we don't plan on adding methods for players to acquire holiday weapons like the Braytech Werewolf outside of participating in those yearly celebrations. For updates, this does mean in Season 13 we will be adding limited time quest weapons like Felwinter's Lie, Whisper of the Worm, and Outbreak Perfected to the Exotic Kiosk in the Tower.

    Quality and Quantity

After covering things we'd like to change, I want to spend some time talking about what must stay the same. Destiny is a game built on exciting rewards. From Bastion to IKELOS_SMG_V1.0.2 to Falling Guillotine, the rewards over the last twelve months have continued to evolve the way Guardians play the game. In Beyond Light, I believe the Rewards Team nailed it again with incredible new Legendary perks like Recombination, Thresh, Chain Reaction, and Reconstruction. Alongside these perks came what I believe is one of the best lineups of Exotic weapons and armor in Destiny history.

But where we succeeded in quality, we failed in quantity. Even as Season 12, the Deep Stone Crypt, and the full breadth of Europa weapons came online, the total count of weapons in Beyond Light is lower than we want. So, we're making the commitment now that our future annual releases will have more weapon rewards than Beyond Light or Shadowkeep.

There's no way for us to make more rewards at Destiny's standards and still maintain the health of our current team, therefore we're going to reinforce the Rewards Team with more talent that will allow us to deliver quality and quantity in the future. Molding someone new into a master Destiny gunsmith takes time. This isn't going to be a change that the community will feel next week, but it does put our best foot forward as we step towards The Witch Queen and Lightfall.

    Preheating the Oven

Increasing the Reward Team's size is one of our long-term initiatives, but it is not the only upgrade to our gear rotation plan that we want to get into the oven. We envision a better solution for how armor intersects with Infusion Caps. The personality of armor comes from mods right now, so gaining a new piece of armor often means just trying to find a piece of armor that replicates the stat allocation you already have on a piece in your vault. While we are not ready to talk concretely about armor plans right now, we do want to get more gameplay novelty on armor itself so that looting a piece of armor in a new season has the potential to change the way you play.

Expect to hear more about armor and other holistic upgrades to the way gear rotates in and out of the Power ecosystem as we harden plans in the new year.

And that new year will be here before you know it. A big chunk of the team will be taking some hard-earned time off to rest and relax ahead of coming back to the studio and diving into 2021. We have a lot of work to do and, while I'm looking forward to the break, I also can't wait to get to work on some of the huge stuff we've got coming in the new year. Without spoiling too much, here's a brief teaser of some of the things that are on their way in Destiny 2, Year 4:

    • Transmog will be coming with Season 14. More details to come. (See work-in-progress screen captures, below. Not final, may change!)
    • DDOS protection for Destiny 2 players on all consoles will be coming in Season 13.
    • The Vault of Glass raid returns.
    • Crossplay is coming in 2021.
    • Two strikes (Fallen S.A.B.E.R. and Devil's Lair) are coming to Destiny 2 in Season 13.
    • Legendary and Master Lost Sector rotation will be expanded to include the Lost Sectors on the Moon in Season 13, and there will be new three new pieces of Exotic armor to chase.

    Returning to Orbit

Now that I've ranted longer than a raid leader on Val Ca'uor, let's wrap this thing up. 2020 has been a hard year for so many folks out there, and I hope that Beyond Light has been able to be a bright spot over the past couple of weeks. Playing Destiny 2 alongside you helps keep us going. We're going to keep our ears and eyes open for more feedback as we continue towards 2021. I hope your holiday treats you well and can't wait to share more Destiny with you in the new year.

    Thanks for your time,

    Joe

Iron Banner Pro Tip: It says SURVIVE the hunt, as in the focus should be to not die, not to get kills

    Posted: 08 Dec 2020 04:55 PM PST

I haven't played in an Iron Banner since probably 2018 but it just baffles me seeing how many people attack the other team head on while they have a power play going on. Lost a game 126-124 just now after watching multiple people die to a last minute power play by the other team and it's frustrating as hell.

Jumping off the map to commit suicide is better than getting a 2 for 1 against a power play. Just stay alive, hide if you have to. That's all that matters.

“Crow” is new benchmark for character development.

    Posted: 08 Dec 2020 01:21 PM PST

I have to give props to Bungie for the management of this transformation. Even if the season activity is stale to me already, I've enjoyed every dialogue. As a long time fan of lore BEHIND this game, this is the first real substantial feeling of lore building within the game I've had pertaining to any character; Much like finally experiencing the world around you changing in the Dreaming City.

The journey from Forsaken (or even D1) to this point has been a long slog of bread crumbing, but I remain fascinated with Uldren and his choices/actions.

While I know Bungie wants us to be the heroes of the story, I'm continually frustrated by the neglect or inaction of key and prominent figures. I think it's why I enjoyed Season of Dawn so much, having those tangible interactions with Saint-14.

    Anyway, thanks.

(Hawkmoon Quest Spoilers!) Bungie may have done the greatest callback I've ever seen

    Posted: 08 Dec 2020 05:28 PM PST

TL;DR: Bungie made a callback to a cut story cutscene from D1 that had a version of Crow in it in the Hawkmoon quest (and I'm losing it).

The description of the third step in the Hawkmoon questline reads:

"I'm... somewhere. I know that's not helpful. It's a ruin, on Earth, I think. I'm flying, and there's these... towers and... ships? I land on a broken concrete pillar, and I see... myself? But it's not me. I don't think it ever was. I'm saying words I've never said, and... the Guardian is there. Yes. that one."

To the majority of players, this probably just sounds like useless filler text about insert character here trying to figure out their dreams. But to some of you, this text might ring some bells, bells all the way from before Destiny 1 came out.

Since we know that the person speaking is Crow, we know that he is seeing "himself" speak, or at least someone who looks exactly like him, and that this version of Crow is saying things that our Crow knows he's never said. Some of you old D1 fans may remember that before Destiny launched, Bungie cut out an entire story arc that involved a character called the Crow, who became Uldren. Due to the story being cut, we never got to see any of this Crow, except for one video.

For reference and for the people who don't want to watch the video, Crow, from a perch in the Steppes landing zone, asks our Guardian why the City is breathing down his neck while holding a hand cannon.

This is the part where my spinfoil hatting comes together. The reason why I mentioned that the cutscene takes place in the Steppes landing area is because that's where we find the feather for Hawkmoon, in the same place Crow stands while speaking to our Guardian in that cutscene. The reason our Crow says that the version of himself that he sees "never was" him is because it wasn't, it's a Crow from what essentially is a different timeline and is a completely different character. The words he "never said" is dialog from a different character.

Keep in mind that the E3 trailer that the cutscene comes from is from 2013. Bungie took 7 YEARS to bring this back up, and I feel like this was an excellent way to do it.

Mini TL;DR/Conclusion: Bungie is pandering to old school D1 nerds like me and I love it

At 7 stacks, Hawkmoon deals more than 18x the damage of a single shot in PvE

    Posted: 08 Dec 2020 04:01 PM PST

I tested this on the Fallen Wrathborn on the Tangled Shore without the buff. A regular crit shot dealt 3591 damage while a shot at 7 stacks dealt 65647 damage. Here are the other damage values and damage multipliers for all stack amounts:

    Base Damage: 3591

    1 Stack: 14071 ~ 3.92x damage

    2 Stacks: 14398 ~ 4.01x damage

    3 Stacks: 15802 ~ 4.4x damage

    4 Stacks: 19583 ~ 5.45x damage

    5 Stacks: 27559 ~ 7.67x damage

    6 Stacks: 42064 ~ 11.71x damage

    7 Stacks: 65947 ~ 18.36x damage

Hope this helps to evaluate the weapons viability.

If Hawkmoon instantly gets a catalyst when it comes out because its the "new gun" I'm going to be pissed. We need catalysts for a lot of the older guns still.

    Posted: 08 Dec 2020 12:42 AM PST

I am aware Hawkmoon is a D1 gun. Doesn't change the fact it should not get a catalyst over the older guns.

Edit: People are already getting Hawkmoon and it does not currently have a catalyst.

Edit 2: I feel like I should clarify before I get anymore hateful comments, thanks for those BTW. Anyway, the reason I don't want Hawkmoon to have a catalyst is because then it gives bungie a reason to half bake the exotic like they usually do so they can "fix it" with the catalyst and provide artificial grind on a NEW weapon. Also, if the only reason you want a weapon to have a catalyst is so that it can make orbs then something is already fundamentally wrong with exotics.

Fusion Rifles are the coolest and most unique weapon that Destiny has to offer. Why does Bungie continue to be okay with them being irrelevant?

    Posted: 08 Dec 2020 09:50 AM PST

With the outlier (loaded question) being sunset and not including guns like the 1k and Telesto, they have been moved to irrelevance in PvE and very niche in PvP. Even the merciless (a pure PvE fusion) isn't used at all in PvE. Not to generically say buff fusion rifles and linear fusions, but why are they left to be COMPLETELY outside of the meta? Can we have one or two seasons where they just run wild or another ritual weapon that is even CLOSE to the meta?

    Hawkmoon Paracausal Shot Damage Values

    Posted: 08 Dec 2020 01:33 PM PST

I was able to get Hawkmoon fairly quickly and spent some time testing out its damage values vs NotGreg on Nessus. Here is what I found about the perk, which is a little absurd.

At 0 stacks of Paracausal Shot, the final round deals the same damage as the normal gun deals, which was 2,793. Each stack afterward provided a MASSIVE increase, which scaled even higher per stack. The more stacks you got, the bigger the increase to the next one. Here is a table showing the damage value, stack number, and multiplier off the base shot.

STACK NUMBER MULTIPLIER (From base) DAMAGE
    0 (Base Weapon Damage) 1.0x 2,793
    1 3.9x 10,945
    2 4.0x 11,198
    3 4.4x 12,291
    4 5.4x 15,231
    5 7.6x 21,435
    6 11.7x 32,717
    7 18.3x 51,292

As you can see, this weapon fires a shot at the end that, at 7 stacks, deals more damage than SLEEPER SIMULANT. I did not get a chance to test this in pvp.

It takes 3.23 seconds to fire an entire clip of Hawkmoon, which in total would deal (Assuming you hit all Crits) deals 70,843 damage. Dividing that by 3.23 would find our one clip DPS of 21,932, which is easily the highest primary weapon DPS in the game outside of Outbreak at high Siva stacks.

It takes 8.19 seconds to fire two clips, so your 2 clip DPS would be about 17,300 damage, which is still nothing to sneeze at. For comparison, the Cloudstrike has a DPS of 44,402 damage.

Suffice to say this perk is absolutely insane. The stats on it are also far and above any other 140 rpm hand cannon, which will undoubtedly make it an extremely popular weapon for any accurate player.

I remade the Walking Ruins section of the Vault of Glass raid with Halo 5’s Forge!

    Posted: 08 Dec 2020 03:00 AM PST

    Beneath Venus, evil stirs.

Hey, everyone! I created a fully functional Halo 5 multiplayer map based on Destiny's Vault of Glass raid. It's a Strongholds map (Domination), and the sync plates are the zones. 😉

You can check out some screenshots here: https://imgur.com/gallery/Sge6uvE

You can download the map from my Xbox gamertag, Danger Tanner, or by clicking here: https://www.forgehub.com/maps/walking-ruins.7905/

I hope you all like it!

Props to Bungie for adding character depth to Crow with the Hawkmoon Quest. (Possible spoiler if you wanted to experience it for yourself)

    Posted: 08 Dec 2020 06:21 PM PST

I will mark as spoilers just in case.

But when you are in the crows nest and he talked about how guardians tried to kill him even though he wanted to help and he had to hide his face. He even save a guardians life and couldnt face them for fear of what they would do when he took his helmet off. Even though it wasnt long, it added a lot of depth to a character who knows in his previous life he had done so wrong but theres nothing he can do about how other guardians feel about him

Lucky Pants will reload Hawkmoon without taking away Paracausal Charge

    Posted: 08 Dec 2020 09:33 PM PST

Not sure if I'm late to the party on noticing this but I'm crafting a dual handcannon build on my hunter using the Lucky Pants and the raid handcannon just for fun and this was something particularly useful that I noticed.

I know that other "auto" reload abilities and mechanics will take this away so it's interesting Illegally Modded Holster does not.

Edit: After some testing, this paired with Posterity with the "one for all" perk might be more than a "just for fun" build, highly recommend checking it out if you have this and a pair of Lucky Pants!

With the return of the Prophecy dungeon today, I humbly suggest you grind yourself an IKELOS Shotgun

    Posted: 08 Dec 2020 08:09 AM PST

IMO, this is one of the strongest Warmind Cell generating weapons you can get. It can roll with amazing perks (e.g. Lead from Gold/Feeding Frenzy, Rampage/Surrounded/Vorpal/Trench Barrel) and has very strong burst damage.

Coupled with the season's beast of a mod "Unstoppable Shotgun" which enables shotguns to stagger just about any enemy, it's never been easy to take down yellow bars and immediately generate Warmind Cells. And it takes just one more shot from the shotgun to blow up the warmind cell. Very fun.

    Screen tearing on console

    Posted: 08 Dec 2020 10:36 AM PST

I just got on and noticed screen tearing right away in my inventory, proceeded to go into a rumble and the screen tearing was super bad. I am on an Xbox One S with a 60 hz monitor btw.

Has anyone else experienced similar issues?
