This week at Bungie, Hawkmoon, next-gen, and the Dawning, oh my!

OK, so it's been another action-packed week with updates to the game and news about the future, so let's just get into it. We started off on Tuesday with an early morning dev update on the state of rewards in the game. We wanted to share some of the plans to improve rewards as well as a few other exciting things coming up. The whole update is definitely worth a read, but I stole some bullets:

    • In Season 13, we're adding six new Legendary weapons to our ritual activities, two each for strikes, Gambit, and Crucible.
    • In addition to the weapons above, Nightfall strikes are getting three unique weapons, with The Palindrome, The Swarm, and Shadow Price all making their Destiny 2 debuts. If you're brave enough to take on Grandmaster Nightfalls, you will be also able to earn Adept versions of these weapons.
    • Transmog will be coming with Season 14. More details to come. (See work-in-progress mock-ups!)
    • DDoS protection for Destiny 2 players on all consoles will be coming in Season 13.
    • The Vault of Glass raid returns in Year 4.
    • Crossplay is coming in 2021.
    • Two strikes (Fallen S.A.B.E.R. and Devil's Lair) are coming to Destiny 2 in Season 13.
    • Legendary and Master Lost Sector rotation will be expanded to include the Lost Sectors on the Moon in Season 13, and there will be new three new pieces of Exotic armor to chase.

That very same day, Update 3.0.1 went live with several important fixes as well as next-gen enhancements for consoles so you can experience the beauty of Destiny 2 with moar frames and moar FOV! We wrote up an article that covers these new enhancements in detail as well as the new ability to pick up bounties from the Companion App and the return of the Prophecy dungeon.

This week also saw the return of Hawkmoon. The highly sought-after Exotic Hand Cannon makes its debut into Destiny 2 with a reworked perk that no longer relies on RNG but still packs a punch. Season Pass owners can now visit Spider to set off on the quest to claim their Hawkmoon.

    The Dawning

This very merry morning we shared a peek at this year's Dawning event that kicks off next week!

    Video Link

Eva Levante is coming to town! She has new cookie recipes and new gifts for all the good Guardians... even if they did adopt Darkness powers.

But I digress. Check out our Dawning page for a quick look at what the event has to offer this year. The Tower is going to be all dressed up again, and we're putting the Griswold touch on the decorations.

    Image Linkimgur

Everyone knows the best gifts vaporize your enemies. Glacioclasm is a new Legendary Fusion Rifle being introduced during this event with random rolls available so each one you open is special. Plus - Glacioclasm is just fun to say. Try saying it without smiling, I dare you! I double-dog dare you. Anyway, here is a preview of the weapon.

    Image Linkimgur

As you are flying around delivering baked goods you will need a new ship to spread cheer in style. Eva has a new Exotic ship that you will be able to upgrade throughout the event to change its look. You will be able to customize the engine streams, different spawn effects, and unlock a new animated shader unique to the ship!

    Image Linkimgur

Eva has also set up a fun new celebration for this year's Dawning that involves even more gifts... for you! As the community generates Dawning Spirit by completing activities you will be able to progress a special community pursuit with your cookie skills and then find new gifts waiting for you under the tree. The big glowy one, you can't miss it. We don't want to spoil all the surprises but you may find some upgrade materials in these gifts.

There will also be some fun stuff at the Eververse store as well. All of the new items added to the store will be available at some point for Bright Dust with the exception of the Glee Barrage and Merry Maker weapon ornaments and Happy Trails finisher which will be available for Silver. Here is a preview of a few of the Sparrows, Ghost Shells, and a ship that are sure to get you in the spirit.

    Super Smash Warlock Melee

Shortly after launch, we put out a hotfix to reel in Stasis a bit. When we made these changes we wanted them to have as much efficacy as possible and that meant using broad strokes to cover a lot of ground. This led to us hitting Penumbral Blast's range harder than many players felt was necessary. Upon review and hearing the feedback we felt that while Penumbral Blast's range needed to come in - there is room to push it back out and have it feel more consistent when hitting targets at range. Here is a preview of patch notes coming in a hotfix next week.

    Penumbral Blast:

    • Projectile range increased by 37%
    • Minimum distance to cast ranged melee reduced by 32%.

      • This allows you to throw the ranged melee closer to targets.

    One... Million... Dollars

    Image Linkimgur

You have been absolutely crushing it raising money to support the Bungie Foundation and Children's Miracle Network Hospitals. As of this writing you have raised 1,036,555 so far and you still have until December 13 to donate to a cause that benefits sick kids across the country. If you haven't donated yet, there are some great prize incentives listed here for donating.

Speaking of incentives, now that we have hit $1 million we are going to start releasing Destiny lore readings by the following special guests for every $50,000 donation milestone we hit!

    • Giacomo Gianniotti: Dr. Andrew DeLuca, Grey's Anatomy
    • Morla Gorrondona: Eris Morn, Destiny 2
    • Erika Ishii: Ana Bray, Destiny 2
    • Peter Jessop: Guardian/Exo Male, Destiny 2
    • Neil Kaplan: Dominus Ghaul, Destiny 2
    • Nyambi Nyambi: Jay Dipersia, The Good Fight
    • Brandon O'Neill: Uldren Sov, Destiny 2
    • Moira Quirk: Emissary/The Exo Stranger/Orin, Destiny 2
    • Zehra Fazal: Guardian, Destiny 2

Thank you to everyone who has donated or volunteered to help raise money through streams and other incentives. It's always amazing what this community can do when it comes together. Finish strong!

    Spreading Update Cheer

    Image Linkimgur

We had another deployment this week which means our player support specialists were watching closely and tracking any issues that popped up.

    This is their report.

    CONNECTION AND SERVER ISSUES

Since Update 3.0.1.1 on December 8, we've been investigating various connection issues, including the following error codes: PRUNE, and WEASEL. The BEE, CACAO, CENTIPEDE, and CHICKEN error codes have since been resolved.

    TRIALS OF OSIRIS REWARD SCHEDULE

Trials of Osiris is expected to return on December 18. Due to the delay of launching Trials, a few changes were made to the reward schedule: During the first four weeks, the Flawless chest will drop an Adept Weapon. The fifth week will drop an armor piece, with subsequent weeks switching the rewards back and forth between Adept weapons and armor as previously mentioned here. Adept weapon mods will drop each week.

    PS4 FRIENDS LIST UPDATE

Since the launch of Beyond Light, we've been investigating an issue for PlayStation 4 players who could only see a small number of their friends online in their Roster. We discovered this issue only affected those with more than 100 friends in their Roster. This issue has been resolved, but after further testing we discovered another issue affecting how online friends are displayed. That issue will be fixed on December 14 in Hotfix 3.0.1.2.

    XBOX SERIES X|S FREEZING ISSUE

While unlikely, it's possible that Destiny 2 may freeze up when signing out of an Xbox Live profile while inside the game. We recommend quitting out of the Destiny 2 app first before signing out. If the game does freeze, players can press the Xbox Guide button on their controller, select Destiny 2, and then select Quit. This issue will be fixed on December 14 in Hotfix 3.0.1.2.

    VESPER OF RADIUS UPDATE

Last Friday, we disabled Vesper of Radius due to it being possible to cast a Rift while falling off a ledge which, when combined with Stasis, could result in a quick lethal combo to opposing players in Crucible. Rift energy wasn't being used, so it was possible to repeat again right after execution. This issue will be fixed on December 17 in Hotfix 3.0.1.3.

    SPOILS OF CONQUEST

We're investigating an issue where players can put their Spoils of Conquest raid currency in their vault, resulting in it disappearing. While we continue our investigation, players should refrain from putting Spoils of Conquest in their vault.

    NEXT-GEN UPDATES

Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5 players who are migrating from Xbox One and PlayStation 4, respectively, will need to download the full-size version of Destiny 2 to get all of the benefits of our next-gen update. For more information, please read our TWAB from December 3.

PlayStation 4 players upgrading to PlayStation 5 may need to highlight Destiny 2 on the PlayStation 5 home screen or PlayStation 5 Store, click the three dots menu, and select the PlayStation 5 Upgrade download. Click here for more information.

Along with our next-gen updates, we discovered that some player settings on PC were transferred to players' console accounts if they are Cross Saved. Until we can implement a fix, console players experiencing FPS or screen-tearing issues can go into their game's Settings > Video, and choose "Reset to Default" to resolve these issues.

    KNOWN ISSUES

While we continue investigating various known issues, here is a list of the latest issues that were reported to us in our #Help Forum:

    • We're investigating reports that cross-gen matchmaking sometimes doesn't work.
    • FPS issues on PC. Please help us determine the cause by posting your information in this thread.
    • PlayStation Remote Play reverts controller remapping and may not function at all.
    • Deafening Whisper doesn't trigger the Abyssal Extractors perk on Nezarec's Sin Exotic helmet.
    • Nezarec's Sin Exotic helmet no longer triggers for five seconds after the second kill and all buff kills are now 2.5 seconds. This is intentional, but we failed to call it out in the patch notes for Update 3.0.0.1. The "original" functionality was a bug that applied 2.5 seconds twice for each subsequent kill.
    • Necrotic Grip doesn't give melee energy on corrupted combatant kills. This is intentional, and the Exotic will be updated to remove the text mentioning this.
    • Necrotic Grip doesn't poison combatants when a ranged melee attack breaks their shield from full.
    • Honed for Speed and Ascendant Champion Triumphs don't unlock when completing the Keep of Honed Edges Ascendant Challenge.
    • Toland doesn't appear in the Shattered Ruins Ascendant Challenge.
    • Surrounded perk buff does not linger when using Surrounded Spec mod.
    • True Prophecy has been removed from world loot pool. This is intentional.
    • The Shotgun Dexterity arm mod shown in legs category in Collections.
    • The Line in the Sand weapon model has random protrusion when held.
    • The Unrelenting weapon perk isn't functional.
    • Lost Lament quest sometimes needs to be abandoned and reacquired to continue.
    • Thunderlord is currently missing its scope.
    • The Ahamkara Bones may not spawn in the Agonarch Abyss Ascendant Challenge.

For a full list of emergent issues in Destiny 2, players can review our Known Issues article. Players who observe other issues should report them to our #Help forum.

This is going to be the last TWAB of the year. Don't worry, we're not all going on a big hiatus at once. We will still be around. This is the time of year where many of us like to take some time away from work to be recharged and enjoy the cold wet darkness of the PNW at home with the fam. I mean, we were at home already, but now we're not talking to our computers all day. We've made sure that the feedback is still flowing, and that you have the latest info on ongoing issues and anything new that pops up. The Dawning isn't the only thing starting next week, we also have raid challenges going live for Deep Stone Crypt so keep an eye out for that.

It's been a wild year. It's almost hard to remember what it was like to be in the studio at this point. Depending on how everything shakes out it will be nice to get back there sometime next year. Until then, we will keep plugging away from our offices, living rooms, garages, patios, and other random rooms around our homes. We still have a lot of work to do. We shared some of our short-term plans with you this week, and there is a whole lot more coming in 2021 as well. See you next year!

    Necrotic Grip changes and unintentionality.

    Posted: 10 Dec 2020 04:16 PM PST

I respectfully question the statement that the melee energy aspect of the exotic was unintended, but even if it was a holdover from when it was different, also making it onto the promo material, why revert it?

Necrotic grips are potent, dont get me wrong, but they are extremely one note. They do one thing, ad clear. If I want to use it to its fullest potential, I ought to use Thorn as well. But if all it does is ad clear on a delayed damage over time, why not just use something like trinity ghoul instead? One exotic slot, great ad clear, no waiting on damage ticks.

The melee energy was what was going to give Necrotic its own identity, a reason to buildcraft around it, and a way to get your melees on warlocks without relying on monte carlo. Its a real shame, please go through with the original design description of the exotic bungie, even if it was unintended or never implimented. Please dont let this be another oathkeepers. Warlocks would love you forever

Quit being cowards and give me a rapid-fire gun(s) with explosive rounds/timed payload

    Posted: 10 Dec 2020 09:47 AM PST

I'll admit it: I'm a sadistic bastard that gets his jollies from the misery of others. That's why I spend most of my free time docking Vandals in the Empty Tank (not that kind of docking, you freak) whilst not tipping the Shank wait staff.

The last thing I need to ensure that I can ruin the days of everyone I come in contact with is an SMG or Pulse that essentially fires those little Pop-Its. Do you know the only thing that would be worse than getting double flinched by my explosive pulse? Getting double flinched...but in staggered intervals. You snipers and laners better get ready for my signature primary: HerpesTM The Gift That Keeps on Giving. The closest I can get is an Explosive Payload Patron of Lost Causes which is a 200 RPM. But I would like to be able to, at minimum, triple my annoying explosive output.

Like, you hold to load the magazine into the 1-shot...but then, you just keep holding it, and they slap the magazine in again. Honed Edge x8. Keep Holding it. Reloads. Honed Edge x12. Until all of your special ammo is in a single shot.

I want to shoot something so hard I don't have to shoot anything else ever again.

With Vault of Glass, nobody is really expecting a Worlds First race, but PLEASE let us chase a 24 hour emblem with contest mode active.

    Posted: 10 Dec 2020 11:33 AM PST

As Sweatcicle said: The Destiny grind only exists these days to grind for the next raid or dungeon.

While this won't solve this issue, it'll play to the strength of the franchise even more. Having an emblem to chase would make this a much more exciting thing to go for, while also generating additional buzz for the release.

Please don't ignore this idea just because there won't be a race for the world first title. The community wants a reason to really go hard. This is an easy way to do that with minimal effort on the part of the studio.

P.S. While we're at it, release it on a Saturday too.

Just going to put this out there... Cloudstrike is superior to DARCI (a power weapon) in nearly every way. It's past time to retune exotic heavy weapons.

    Posted: 10 Dec 2020 05:38 AM PST

Title just about says it all. Don't believe me? Here are the numbers:

Weapon AVG DPS Burst DPS Total Damage Total Reserves
    DARCI w/ Personal Assistant 15,631 18,963 170,667 30
    Cloudstrike 15,682 19,784 178,059 31
    Buffed DARCI 16725 - 18450 20,330 - 22530 182k - 201k 30

Need I not remind folks that DARCI is an exotic power weapon?

    DARCI Buff Suggestion:

    • Target Acquired now also grants Anti-Barrier Rounds.
    • Base damage is increased by 20% (i.e. always 20% more than normal rapid fires)
      • For context, this exotic heavy weapon barely deals 5% more base damage than normal Rapid fires. DARCI's baseline damage is closer to that of an Adaptive sniper rifle.
    • Catalyst now adds a new Perk: Death By Proxy (or w/e) - Personal Assistant precision hits grant a stacking chance (~20%) for the next round that hits the target to deal bonus damage.
      • The chance stacks with successive crits, reaching 100% on the 5th consecutive crit. This includes body shots that receive the Death by Proxy buff.
      • Buffed precision hits would deal +15% bonus damage. Buffed body shots are treated as normal crits. Basically, a Personal Assistant crit that procs the catalyst buff would deal around the same damage as a non-buffed Whisper crit.
      • Bonus is lost on missing a shot or swapping weapons.
    • PVP: can now 2-body guardians at any resilience. Can one-crit or 2-body any super.

There really should be an Iron Banner seal that gives you the title of “Iron Lord”

    Posted: 10 Dec 2020 04:28 PM PST

The game mode has had little changes since D2 and I think a seal would be a great way to get longer term players back into the playlist. It would function like the Trials seal, but allow for everyone to get the triumphs done in the three events throughout each season.

"True Prophecy has been removed from world loot pool. This is intentional." - why?!

    Posted: 10 Dec 2020 03:11 PM PST

From the latest TWAB: "True Prophecy has been removed from world loot pool. This is intentional."

It looks like despite all the senseless downvoting of my other threads, I managed to get Bungie's attention with this. Unfortunately, it turns out it was intentional. Does anyone have any idea why this could be the case? They'd previously announced they were removing Season 9 (1260-capped) weapons. True Prophecy is from Season 10, 1310-capped. I know the reprised Iron Banner handcannon fills the same niche, but it has different rolls and is only obtained from one intermittent source. This is a bummer.

Bungie, can we get “Mayhem” strikes?

    Posted: 10 Dec 2020 10:54 AM PST

I'm sure a mayhem-esque modifier would be do able and we already have mayhem implemented in Crucible, so why not give it a go for Strikes?

At least some sort of fun, new modifiers for strikes would be welcome.

6-Player Non-Raid Activities are my favorites.

    Posted: 10 Dec 2020 08:38 AM PST

Some of the most fun I've had with Destiny 2 have been the 6 player non-raid activities. Menagerie, Sundial, etc.

These are the right mix of 'more than strike, less than raid'. Running around, unique boss fights, and a fun way to dig deeper into the area. Hell, the areas themselves like the Menagerie's map were fun to explore.

Don't get me wrong, the Raids are great but hard to get a pick up group to run still...which is working as intended I guess.

Each time I got to play these there was a great injection to the loot pool as well.

I'm just sad we haven't had a chance to use these events to get unique armor/weapon mods. Having something like this with Ana to garner Warmind cell gear would be a lovely way to keep pushing the Rasputin plot. But that's my dream.

I'm curious if other enjoy these types of activities as well?

"Taking Charge" no longer allows you to pick up Orbs when your super is full and you're fully charged since the latest patch.

    Posted: 10 Dec 2020 04:00 AM PST

Noticed this while I was running Nightfalls earlier today, basically what the title says. Pre-Patch 3.0.1, you could still pick up Orbs of Power even when your super was fully charged and you were fully Charged with Light, that's no longer the case with the latest patch.

Some might argue this is better because "you no longer waste Orbs", but to me this seems like a big nerf because you previously were able to use this to heal with Orbs of Power while using mods like Better Already and Recuperation, while still being at full charged super.

The patch notes state this change nowhere, so I'm curious if this was an intentional change or not.

    EDIT: Extra gif https://gfycat.com/prestigiousblaringanole

EDIT 2: Apparently you can still infinitely pick up Orbs if you aren't running any Charged with Light mods except Taking Charge. Seems like a very arbitrary change.

EDIT 3: Please read the post people. You used to be able to infinitely pick up Orbs completely unconditionally of anything whatsoever when running Taking Charge (as in you could have full super and max amount of CWL stacks and still pick up Orbs). Now you can no longer pick up Orbs when at max CWL stacks and full super bar.

    Posted: 10 Dec 2020 10:53 AM PST

Seriously, just give Drifter a penthouse in the bizarre bazaar so you can better utilize that space. You got him looking like a goon all by himself down in the boiler room where Executor Hideo probably hides his dead hookers.

Furthermore, if you bring back Ada-1 in a future season, you might as well have the Vanguard hook her up with a sweet new outdoor forage behind New Monarchy's hookah lounge. It's been two years and she squashed her beef with the guardians, please be nice to her and move her out of her secret lair that everyone knows about.

And if you when you move Crow to the tower at the end of the season, can you put him in the hanger next to the Colonel? Because that'll piss off a bunch of Cayde fanboys and in 2020, that shit gives me life.

    Posted: 10 Dec 2020 02:14 AM PST

You start to load in and you decide to check the roster. You see names like "Trex" "Allm" "iWHT" and your heart starts beating faster. Their emblems say they have 8 billion flawless tickets and they have never died in the crucible since the release of D1. Your first life you are obliterated by a glacier gernade and hunter slam. The game is over in 3 minutes as one of them wins. You did not do horrible but your no match for the dude who just snorted an adderal and has 10,000 hours in covaxs. The game says it will break up the people for better matchmaking. Unbeknownst to you, you will never have another game of crucible without the people you just played with. The matchmaking algorithm also decides to add GIGZ into your game because leaving the game after 30 seconds is not "losing". You walk into a room with 3 people, they immediately stop their gunfight and send you into the shadow realm before continuing their engagement. You get a player one shot and he goes behind a wall for 0.0000000001 seconds as you push him. When he is in your sights again he is fully healed, has overshield, and built the lego Death Star with a functioning laser, he proceeds to eviscerate you from existence. You get one hit from across the map, a sniper maybe? Nope, it was a felwinters. After two hours of losing you finally have a game where you are in the zone. Not even Trex or Allm can stop you, your aim is uncanny. You get to 19 kills before the person in 2nd place even has 10 kills. This is it, the game you were waiting for, you might even get a Sum of All Tears after. You go up behind a player who is on such a low sensitivity that he can't move his head. He is also unaware that the radar is a thing. You go right behind him and and turn his insides into scrambled eggs with a shotgun blast to the back. It does no damage. Maybe you missed? You shoot again, nothing. You go towards other enemies and they are all running into walls. Your eyes go wide as you are filled with dread as the red banner at the bottom of your screen reveals your fate, "Contacting Destiny 2 Servers". You are beaver coded to the main screen. You uninstall vowing never to play again. Two hours later it is re-installed and your playing again repeating the never ending cycle.

Ngl bungie did a good job with the hawk moon quest

    Posted: 10 Dec 2020 01:43 PM PST

This is honestly one of the best exotic quests we've gotten in awhile, and I know bungie won't be able to do quests like these too often, but I'd honestly take less quests with more of a story that actually feels like it matters over more quests with tiring grind any day.

Regardless of your thoughts on other aspects of the season, can we agree the quantity and quality of NPC dialogue during the seasonal event this season and last is phenomenal?

Between the Eris + Drifter dialogue from last season and the Crow + Glint + Osiris + Spider dialogue from this one, I'm blown away at how many different lines there are. It feels like every time I would do the activity I'd get a new one. Does bungie add more of these as the season goes on or is there really that many interactions off the bat?

I made a guide to Deep Stone Crypt!

    Posted: 10 Dec 2020 01:39 PM PST

Hi there, I've been sherpaing raids on Destiny since the VoG. Taking people through the raid for their first time is always a fun experience. With Deep Stone Crypt dropping, I went ahead and made a guide that can help people learn the raid, and teach it as well!

The strats aren't too fancy, and should help people learn the mechanics. I hope this helps others learn the raid or assist them in teaching it. Link to the guide!

Edit: Thank you for the silver and other rewards! This really means a lot! I was super nervous posting this at first.

I like that we are getting more Nightfall exclusive weapons, but what about the Nightfalls weapons from Forsaken that have currently sunset?

    Posted: 10 Dec 2020 04:40 PM PST

There have been a few Nightfall exclusive weapons since Forsaken that have sunset, but the strikes they drop from are still in the game. Could they be brought back alongside the three arriving in Season 13?

If I remember correctly, the weapons are:

The Long Goodbye from The Insight Terminus.

    Horror's Least from The Corrupted.

Militia's Birthright from Lake of Shadows.

Mindbender's Ambition from The Hollowed Lair. Please don't bring this one back.

    Please Add More Catalysts!

    Posted: 10 Dec 2020 09:54 AM PST

There's no denying how useful catalysts are, even if the stat bonus or new perk isn't that great, being able to generate orbs is insanely helpful, especially if you're running a charged with light build. At the very least, allow us to add kill trackers to exotics like you could in Forsaken. It makes me not want to use the majority of exotics, please try to add more in future seasons! Imo, older weapons should be more of a priority than newer ones, there's still Malfeasance, Wish-Ender, Chaperone, and more from Forsaken that still don't have a catalyst.
