Holy crap, the voice actor for Zavala said the meme that was asked for him to read.

Gotta say, it is SUPREMELY satisfying to end a Battleground run by obliterated the chest with a big ass hammer.

    Posted: 10 Feb 2021 10:04 AM PST

It's the little things, y'know? Such a nice little touch that injects some extra life and personality into an action that we've done thousands of times before.

[edit] Ugh I literally JUST noticed the "obliterated" in the title -__-

Cabal Gold being capped at 42 is the same mistake as the previous Lure system.

    Posted: 10 Feb 2021 07:59 AM PST

I mean, why is it even capped? Play activities for 30 minutes and you basically have to go run 2 battlegrounds or you're just wasting gold.

The enemy density in the Sepiks strike feels amazing!

    Posted: 10 Feb 2021 03:41 AM PST

Theres more than enough enemies for every Guardian in the fireteam! More than enough to get builds rolling, keep you moving and challenge you to stay active. I think this is the first time in years I have felt that strikes can be loads of fun again! It felt like back in D1 when the heroic strike playlist was a thing and it was just challenging enough to really engage you. I loved that feeling! Bungie, if you see this, please rework the existing Strikes to be more like this!

Edit: Because many asked already. Sepiks is the Nightfall this week! Go and have fun!

World Loot Needs to Be Removed From Ritual Vendors - There Is Currently a .0001% Chance of Getting a Bottom Dollar HC From Gambit With the Perks You Want (Math Inside)

    Posted: 10 Feb 2021 04:23 PM PST

Before I get started, I fully realize that we don't know the weightings behind the scenes that Bungie uses to determine drops. Newer loot has a higher chance to drop than older loot. The numbers I'm about to show ignore that as there is no way of knowing the exact ratio. Either way, I think what I'm showing demonstrates my point very well.

World loot should absolutely be removed from Ritual vendors, meaning Zavala, Shaxx, and Drifter. It was an understandable change during Season of Arrivals because the Tower vendors had not seen a loot refresh in some time. Now that all Tower vendors have a new armor set, three new weapons with 12 perks in each column, and a commitment by Bungie to update this annually - it's time to revert the world loot in vendor loot pools change.

Let's show what the total loot pool consist of and the chances of receiving a weapon you want with the perks you want. Bottom Dollar is what I used as an example since it's currently the most sought after vendor weapon. I'd bet my bottom dollar that you'll never get the exact roll you want on this weapon.

    • Total Armor Pieces Available from Vendor Rank Up Package (per class)
      • 50
      • 5 of which is the vendor's own armor set
    • Total Weapons Available from Vendor Rank Up Package
      • 29
      • 3 of which are new weapons unique to that vendor

Chance of Dropping Total Perk Combinations Chance of Wanted Perk Combination Chance of Wanted Roll
    1.27% 9072 .01% .0001%

The weapons chance of dropping is a simple division not taking in account the unknown weighting Bungie uses. Combing all world drop armor and weapons as well as vendor armor and weapons lands us at a grand total of 79 possible drops. That is a 1.27% chance for the Bottom Dollar to drop for you.

Total perk combinations takes into account masterworks, barrel options, magazine options, and the final two column options. Barrel and magazine option totals were divided in half to account for 2 choices being present on each of those columns. There is a total 12 perks on each of the last two columns. Multiplying all column totals together gets us the 9072 total perk combinations or a .01% chance.

Taking the chance of dropping and chance of wanted perks and multiplying them together lands us at our final percentage, a .0001% chance of getting the exact roll you want. Once again, this doesn't take Bungie's internal weighting into consideration since it is unknown. Even with some weighting going on to skew the drops, the odds are extremely against you. This is why I propose vendors go back to their original system of dropping only their items. Doing the numbers again with this system:

    • Total Armor Pieces Available from Vendor
      • 5
    • Total Weapons Available from Vendor
      • 3

Chance of Dropping Chance of Wanted Perk Combination Chance of Wanted Roll
    12.5% .01% .001%

Under this system, the chance of get the exact weapon you want, e.g., Bottom Dollar, goes up to 12.5%. The chance of getting your own personal Bottom Dollar god roll is still extremely low at .001%, but that's a result of the large number of perk combinations available on these guns, not the total loot pool. This number goes up significantly as you start to care less and less about specific combinations, i.e., only concerning yourself with the last two columns gives you 144 combinations instead of 9072. There's a reason why perk for perk god rolls are extremely rare, the numbers don't lie.

In closing, removing world loot drops from ritual vendors would be a huge boon to the game. The loot treadmill is there even with the world loot removed, mostly due to the large perk combinations available on these new weapons. Going from a 1.27% chance of a Bottom Dollar dropping to a 12.5% chance would make things so much more enjoyable. Playing playlist activities just to get my 1200th Gnawing Hunger or Cold Denial is frustrating, especially when new loot has been added. Frustrating loot leads to a frustrating play session. A frustrating play session leads to a frustrating experience with the game. Reserve world loot for legendary engram drops out in the world, normal prime engrams, and the Gunsmith. They no longer have a place in ritual vendor loot tables.

27 new weapons, not counting Adepts and reissues, is a good haul for a season

*I'm counting y1 weapons that never gotten random rolls, and D1 reprisals, as new*

Counting adepts and reissues, there are 47.

    Compared to other seasons:

    Worthy: 25 new

    Arrivals: 23 new, 37 total

    Opulence: 24 new

    Dawn: 24 new

    Drifter: 20 new

    Forge: 35 new

Hunt: 13 new, 18 total (not counting raid & Europa destination gear)

New Exotic basically doubles Thundercrash Damage

    Posted: 10 Feb 2021 10:21 AM PST

I did some testing on the new exotic chestpiece for Titans and it basically doubles the Thundercrash damage.

Without the exotic it does 168,878 damage to a lost sector boss. With the exotic ON it does 337,755 damage to the same boss. This almost doubles the damage of the super.

    Link to screenshots: https://imgur.com/a/h2EFOSH

Edit: you get the exotic by soloing legend or master lost sectors when chest pieces are in rotation.

Can we talk about all the amazing stuff Bungie kept under wraps when hyping up this season?

    Posted: 10 Feb 2021 02:52 AM PST

Saladin returning to have an important role in the story: Completely out of left field, when I heard Saladin start talking instead of Zavala, in the first cinematic, I was so pleasantly surprised. This + all the ornaments we've been getting, makes me think SIVA might actually be on the horizon this year.

Battlegrounds: These are like mini-strikes, with a shit ton of enemies, which clearly bungie intended seeing as it's in the vanguard activity section. On top of this the fact that we can do not only Nightmare Hunts and Blind Well again for our cabal gold, but dungeons too! We get to play some of the fastest and/or best content destiny has to offer, which helps us actually progress the seasonal activities too.

The Frenzy Perk: I heard nothing about this perk up to this season's release and my first smg came with it and overflow. Needless to say, bungie really nailed the PvE only Viable damage perk here. Seeing as you need to be fighting for a good like 10 secs or so before the buff starts, but only leaves when you kill everything or be killed and with fights in crucible lasting less than a second most of the time, it's not gonna break crucible with a perma damage buff. Side note: really feels like using recluse in it's prime.

Elemental Wells/Synergy: Encouraging you to run similar elements is really cool, it's genuinely really fun. Some of the bonuses are ridiculous, like weapon damage, giving charges of light and speeding up super charge with easy to complete objectives like getting continuous (not rapid) sub class matching elemental weapons or grenade kills. And the new warlock exotic even synergizes with this kind of build, speaking of...

    Exotic Armor:

    - So titans, you finally get a way to keep yourself safe both during and after your thundercrash and even buffing your thundercrash DPS as well, things that you have been asking for for ages.

    - Hunters, people are gonna dismiss yours as boring or bad, but keeping your entire team invisible for a millenia is going to be amazing for completing difficult activities and having damage resistance while invisible, doesn't just make invisibility better for escape in crucible, but SPECTRAL BLADES WILL RECEIVE DAMAGE RESISTANCE WHILE INVISIBLE!

    - Warlocks we got some good shit, matching elemental weapon kills grant super energy, arc+trinity ghouls = holy shit supers for days and the essence of our beloved tlaloc is siphoned into this chest piece for additional damage while our super is charged...just yes.

The Atmosphere of This Season: So disregarding the fact that we are using space wizards with future tech to fight gladatorial ritual combat against some badass space rhinos, Everyone is here. You got crow out doing recon on enemy forces, Holiday providing Overwatch, Osiris advising us on our next move, Saladin heading the battlegrounds operation and my main man Zavala heading all these operations in a brand spanking new mission control room. This season I feel like part of the vanguard in a way I haven't before, it's actually starting to rival the dark vanguard and actually make me feel like I'm a head honcho hero man.

In conclusion, this season is starting so strong and after season of the hunts bare bones bleeding, this feels like it's not only giving us new content, but with the inclusion of more activities in the seasonal loop (which directly addressed the problem with the lure.), the return of umbral engram farming and the formation of a stronger light vanguard, I hope Bungie keep this much shit underwraps for every season and major content expansion in the future.

Edit: I don't like editing for reasons like saying "WOW look at that number.", not that I don't appreciate it, but Cozmo commented so I feel like I've earned this one, thanks for the huge amount of upvotes and any awards, it does feel great, made my day in fact.

Lance Reddick (Zavala) calling out Caiatl

    Posted: 10 Feb 2021 02:52 PM PST

The fact that shadebinder is receiving nerf directly and indirectly while Revenant is getting buffed is infuriating

    Posted: 10 Feb 2021 06:29 AM PST

Thanks to these new nerfs shadebinder is the worst class PvP, being completely overshadowed by revenant, which revived a large buff in the form of the withering blade doing precision damage on a body shot now, and the new aspect allowing hunter to frequently get back more withering blades, meanwhile shadebinder gets the ability to regenerate grenade energy from seekers removed, and indirect nerfs in the form of decreased primary damage to frozen targets and requiring 200 damage be felt to shatter rather than 100. I can't help but feel like bungie is biased against warlocks.

    Shadebinder Feels Really Bad Now

    Posted: 10 Feb 2021 06:42 PM PST

You did it bungo, you Nova-Warp'd the warlocks Stasis class. It feels really bad to play now. On top of all the nerfs it's gotten I'm noticing so many more things wrong with it now in PVE.-I'm noticing ice flare bolt aren't spawning sometimes even when its off cool down

-enemies are outrunning the ice flare bolts entirely

-the ice flare bolts are getting messed up by simple ground geometry when enemies are right in front of them making some or all of them to wiff wasting it

-the melee seems to be doing less damage overall

-doing less damage to frozen AI feels TERRIBLE

Don't forget the super was nerfed, the melee was nerfed in both speed and distance (and now damage it seems), and now grenade regen has been nerfed. Literally every ability of shadebinder has been nerfed now. It was by far the most balanced of all the stasis subclasses already but Bungingo keeps nerfing it. And don't tell me the the new aspect makes up for it, because it's weak and sometimes doesn't even work.

The kicker is other classes haven't even had any nerfs that actually did anything to them When they are objectively broken in worse ways.

-Behemoth super still lasts way too long and has way too much damage reduction

-Hunter super lasts forever and freezes through walls and at insane distances (don't tell me it's weak, it can shut down a zone and continually slow and freeze enemies and bosses for an eternity and is a one and done super so you can run around wreaking havok at the same time as it)

-Shatterdive and glacial grenades can still one shot other supers and insta kill groups (seriously this needs a pvp damage nerf vs players)

-both hunter and titan still freeze for 5 seconds but warlock only freezes for 1 in pvp

-hunter melee got BUFFED even though it was strong already and if you use both melee charges back to back on someone it is just a better warlock melee

-shadebinder is dead in the water for pvp now with the changes to primary vs frozen damage reduction + 1 second freeze + now 200hp

let me guess though, warlocks mid tree arc is about to get nerfed isn't it.

To raise awareness : Dunemarchers and Heart of Inmost Light are bugged.

    Posted: 10 Feb 2021 05:41 AM PST

Since forever, Heart of Inmost Light is bugged in that it's extremely inconsistent. To get a 2n stack, the only combos that work are : Grenade then Melee or Barricade then Melee. If you do anything else it will not give you a 2nd stack. This needs fixing to allow any "combo" of abilities in whichever order we please.

Also, since patch, dunemarchers do not proc their AoE lightning if you kill the target.

Those are 2 of my fav titan exotics, please fix.

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Edit#1 : I made a post on the official bungie help forums about this too. It has yet to be acknowledged by bungie.

    Edit#2 : Reformatted for clarity.

Edit#3 : Thanks everybody for the upvotes and rewards! This really blew up! :D

    Banshee-44's Memory Loss

    Posted: 10 Feb 2021 07:51 AM PST

While reading the lore tab for the sidearm "Brass Attacks", I came across this paragraph of text:

"A tiny inscription on the trigger pin. Almost imperceptible, even to his digital eyes. He examined the pin through his loupe. The mark read "B-44.4.C-6". Seemed like a part number. Guess he'd never know who crafted it. It really was a helluva piece, though. Whoever made it had a real eye for the game."

Obviously, our favorite firearms expert is impressed by the handiwork of this weapon.... yet he doesn't seem to realize who truly crafted it.

I know the bar wasn't set high, but one day in, with a pretty good seasonal activity, this season is more satisfying than the hunt.

    Posted: 10 Feb 2021 06:59 AM PST

I know there was a satire post yesterday that said DTG was going to be complaining about this season a couple weeks from now and say the hunt is better, but I'm already happier with it. Regardless of how the rest shakes out, the seasonal activity is pretty fun (except for the drop pods) and the loot/vendor rank ups is pretty good. Looking forward to getting more maps and unlocking more gear from the umbrel for the seasonal activity!

Bungie, the primary reason no one is wanting to use Heavy Weapons for anything other than Boss DPS [in PvE] is because of the wildly inconsistent drop-rate of Heavy Ammo, even with finder mods.

    Posted: 10 Feb 2021 01:53 AM PST

Note anything I'm talking about here is for the sake of PvE balancing - not necessarily Gambit or Crucible. Heavy Weapons have a completely different role/balancing when dealing with PvP environments, and therefore their ammo drops should obviously be balanced separately.

Don't get me wrong, I really like the idea of diversifying the purpose of Heavy Weapons - with some being strong for crowd control/ad clearing, some being good at clearing entrances/spawnpoints of enemies as soon as they spawn, some buffing DPS for other teammates, and others being useful for Single Target DPS - with some being better for sustained periods of DPS and others being more useful for quick bursts of it.

However, currently, no one is going to be incentivized to use their Heavy Slot for anything other than Single Target DPS and occasionally buffing their teammates' DPS. This isn't because there's necessarily anything specifically wrong with other types of Heavy Weapon (not saying that they don't need tweaking!), but rather because of the wildly inconsistent drop/spawn rate of Heavy Ammo.

Heavy Ammo in this game is ridiculously unpredictable and inconsistent. One minute, you have too much of it dropping to know what to do with it. Next minute, you kill every enemy in the Lost Sector and not a single one of the purple bricks drop. There has been zero transparency on how the spawning of Heavy Ammo works, and the most we can do about it is equip Heavy Ammo Finder and respective Heavy Weapon Reserves etc to try and store more Heavy Ammo or get more from each brick.

But this doesn't fix the initial problem with Heavy Ammo. People are just going to hoard it up until they have a boss to dump it on because they don't know if they'll get more or not if they use it on other enemies. This completely eliminates any hope of people diversifying the use of their Heavy slot. No one is going to waste their scarce DPS Weapon's ammo on anything other than a Boss, Champion etc, and no one is even going to bother with crowd control Heavies because they'll clear a room out and then wait half the game for another brick of ammo (or they could walk into the next room and every enemy could drop a brick, that's how unpredictable it is).

My proposed fix to this problem is to simply both A: Be more transparent about how Heavy Ammo drops work in the PvE Sandbox so that players can be more familiar with managing their Heavy Ammo, and B: Adjust the PvE spawn rates of Heavy Ammo to be both more consistent, as well as more or less frequent depending on the weapon type. Weapons with extremely high DPS could maintain the inconsistent, rare spawnrate of Heavy Ammo, while weapons more focused on Crowd Control could have more consistent, common drops of Heavy Ammo to balance them out.

This is just my suggestion, mostly as a response to the EoT nerf, as Bungie seem to think the reason that people won't diversify heavies is because of power creep, when the primary reason is just the inconsistency of heavies forcing most people to feel like they need to use the weapons with the highest numbers to make the most out of the rare ammo drops.

Now that we have a strike with like 500 Fallen enemies in it, can the boss room of Hallowed Lair please count towards bounties and challenges?

    Posted: 10 Feb 2021 08:55 AM PST

There's two areas in the Hollowed Lair strike where kills don't count towards any challenges, bounties etc; the room with the Abomination boss and the final boss room. The reasoning for that used to be "because there's so many enemies it would become a very popular spot to complete bounties", but that barely is a reason anymore with the Devil's Lair strike being in the game with hundreds of Fallen enemies in it.

    Posted: 10 Feb 2021 06:41 AM PST

I've never run the ordeal more then the couple times to get a powerful and sometimes during double reward weekends. But after this update because of the 3 new weapons I actually want to run the ordeal more then a couple of times. So bungie please please please keep doing this add more weapons and maybe some strike specific weapons and armor as just that makes me want to play more strikes.

Props to Bungie for making a seasonal exotic that feels unique, is easy to use but requires practice to maximise the DPS and really feeds into the power fantasy without being overpowered.

    Posted: 10 Feb 2021 08:19 AM PST

I haven't had this much fun with an exotic weapon in ages. The Ticuu's Divination exotic bow is fantastic, unique and isn't a returning D1 exotic (hoorah!), plus it looks awesome.

Simple to use but requires timing and accuracy to maximise its DPS potential but most importantly, I feel powerful without being overpowered.

Bungie, this is how you do an exotic. Build from this please.
