Nightfalls should take a page out of Battlegrounds' book and give us more enmies rather than tankier enemies

    Posted: 11 Feb 2021 01:14 PM PST

Title. So many weapons and perks in the game revolve around getting multiple kills quickly. Grandmasters render many of these perks useless because you just aren't getting that many kills. I feel Grandmasters can be just as challenging with more enemies that aren't as tanky and increase the speed and fun of a grandmaster because so many more perks would matter.

Penumbral blast(Shadebinder Melee) now does 38 damage instead of 80, is this a bug?

    Posted: 11 Feb 2021 10:01 AM PST

    Title.

It's not mentioned anywhere in the patch note but yea it's ture. Warlocks, now your melee ability that takes time to charge does 38% damage of your normal punch. I don't know if this is intended. And it also noticably does less damage in PVE as well. And with the new change to freeze you can't even kill the freezed person with primary if he is outside of shotgun range.

And btw withering blade does 90 damage flat now because bungie wants to buff hunter.

Bungie if you want warlock to switch class just say it in twab. I'm so tired of this nonsense.

At this point, the Artifact Unlock restrictions and reset costs feel more like a nuisance than a healthy game design choice.

    Posted: 11 Feb 2021 01:42 PM PST

I made a post similar to this several Seasons ago, but I do think enough time has passed where this is starting to become fatiguing as a player.

If you want to read my extensive thoughts, feel free to read my other post above, but the short version of it is:

    • The powerful Mods cost too much Energy, so they could never be slotted at the same time anyway (such as Passive Guard and Volatile Conduction in the current Artifact).
    • Even if the Mods costed less Energy, we only get two slots for these Mods on one specific Armor Piece, which makes it even more restrictive if we wanted to run other helpful Mods too, like Reserves or Loader Mods.

This annoyance is further amplified by the cost of resetting the Artifact though. It just feels like adding insult-to-injury because you wanted to try a new Mod out but didn't like it, or even wanting to try a new Mod but having to give something else up.

I think there should be some insight about this personally. Thoughts?

3 Out Of 30 New Weapons Are Kinetic

    Posted: 11 Feb 2021 01:02 PM PST

Lets try a different way so people get the understanding. 27 of 30 new weapons, are energy or heavy weapons.

Of those new weapons, ONLY ONE OF THEM IS A WEAPON YOU CAN GET OUTSIDE OF A SPECIALTY ACTIVITY (i.e. Trials, and Iron Banner).

That means if you want to run the new ritual grenade launcher, you have 3 new weapons you can use for a primary. These new guns are awesome, but it would be SICK if I could actually use some of them AND the new GL I just grinded to get.

New Playlist Weapon Drops Are WAY TOO LOW

    Posted: 11 Feb 2021 12:31 PM PST

Completed thus far 6 strikes (2 NF), 5 gambit, 32 crucible.

I have zero new weapon drops. I thought they would have been like Stars in Shadow where it felt like you got one at least every 2 games in addition to whatever else dropped.

Only legendary drops I'm getting are hot trash like low stat Thorium Holt armor, Insight Vikti armor and a seraph hand cannon that sunsets this season. Using the ghost shell Prosperity perk for each playlist as well. Feels bad

Even the crucible engram from Shaxx on the rewards path gave me a 2 season old class item. All the rank up engrams - also trash armor. Weekly crucible powerful for finishing bounties gave a Toil & Trouble. With the massive RNG perk pool on the new weapons, is it really that bad of a thing to give them out as rewards?!?

Shadebinder is really struggling now, why was it nerfed even if it was fine? The class got a lot weaker now.

    Posted: 11 Feb 2021 07:46 AM PST

Seriously, Shadebinder got totally destroyed now.

They removed Grenade regen in Iceflare bolts. This is really big, because Grenade regen was really important to Shadebinder to keep chaining freeze and clean areas. Now it is hard to keep it up, and the add clear feels so much worse now. The super doesn't help much, it never was that great like others (like Stormcaller) but the neutral game and chain frezee with grenade regen maded up for it.

Plus, they didn't mentioned it in the patch notes for whatever reasons, Penumbral blast damage got a huge nerf. Now it does 38, and it was 80. This is slighty more than half! You can't oneshot anymore low rank enemies like dregs, you can oneshot only Shanks.

These 2 nerfs alone made Shadebinder A LOT worse in PvE without a real reason, it was fine before and not broken. It was competing with the light subclasses and now there is little reasons to bring Shadebinder in PvE.

The new aspect isn't that good to make up for the nerf to Iceflare bolts. The turret is bad, the projectile are REALLY slow and warlocks focus is on freezing not slowing (i know that the turret freeze enemies, but it takes ages to do that).

In PvP, the nerfs to frezee hurted Shadebinder more than the other 2 classes, the 200 HP damage to shatter enemies and 50% damage reduction while frezeed combined with the fact that Shadebinder is the only subclass that frezee for 1,3s make really hard to kill frezeed guardians without using a Special.

Don't get me wrong, i don't mind much PvP and I'M NOT against these nerfs to general freezing in PvP, but if you want to make them truly efficient, you need to nerf to 1,3s even the other souces of freezing, or this will be mainly a nerf only to Shadebinder.

Anyway, without considering the general freeze nerf in PvP (that, again i say i'm not against them), these Nerfs to Shadebinder maded the class REALLY weak, and are hurting the class in PvE a lot.

    Please, reconsider them...

TLDR: the nerfs directed at Shadebinder were too much and so out of place, Shadebinder was more or less fine before all of this and now these nerfs are hurting the class a lot in PvE. You can't kill anymore enemies like dregs and goblin with Penumbral blast and it is really hard to keep the chain freeze going in PvE now without the grenade regen.

(Sorry for bad english and wall of text)

With the new aspects Titans can instant freeze using their melee ability just like warlocks, so why is the Titan freeze duration so much longer in PVP?

    Posted: 11 Feb 2021 10:15 AM PST

It's getting harder and harder to believe bungie doesn't hate Warlocks. Between all the direct and indirect Shadebinder nerfs this season (a subclass which was strong but not op in PVE, and greatly below the Titan and Hunter subclasses in PVP) why is there such a disparity in abilities?

The Warlock melee has slightly more range, but a travel time, making it easy to dodge, additionally with no way to shatter and the melee's undocumented damage nerf, its now impossible to do enough damage to kill someone with a primary outside of just meleeing them on warlock, defeating the purpose of it's only range advantage.

The Titan melee on the other hand is instant, gives full freeze duration, and makes crystals which they can shatter to do still insane AOE damage, AND also shatter to synergize for even more grenade energy (and melee energy if they run the other aspect). All of this is in addition to the Titans original melee ability that gives insane movement options/can one shot by throwing you into a wall or off the map.

This isn't even discussing the rest of the subclass imbalances, yet the changes we get this season are a single buff to the already super strong hunter melee, and multiple warlock nerfs to hammer it down even further below the other classes. What's the balance justification for these changes other than hurting Warlocks?

Edit: Since this has blown up a bit there are some things I want to clarify; I play all three classes equally and genuinely enjoy the power fantasy of each. I by no means am calling for a nerf to the new Titan aspect, I think it actually solves the biggest problem Stasis Titan has in pve (having a pretty lack luster melee that doesn't synergize with the rest of the kit). Now you can make crystals with the melee, which you can shatter for grenade energy, use for ad clear and it pairs very well with charged with light/heart of inmost light for ability spam.

The issue I'm trying to bring to light is the disparity with which things have been handled in terms of class balance. The way Warlock kit functions is such that it has no way to slow and relies entirely on freezing to get rolling, along with no way to shatter other than shooting frozen targets. Due to this Warlock cannot reliably benefit from Whisper of Shards for grenade regeneration and was dependent on Iceflare Bolts, which has now had its grenade regeneration ability removed. Then for PVP I'm not disagreeing that there are benefits and negatives to each melee ability, but the reason warlock melee was nerfed in the first place was because of how terrible it feels to get instant frozen for so long with no counter play, something Titans can now do yet with the original duration, an easier time shattering and all while having all the other additional benefits I listed above. On top of all this the new reduced damage to frozen targets unfairly hurts Warlocks the most due to not having any means of shattering outside of shooting.

Finally when it's time for balancing we get massive (mostly deserved, but as always too far) Warlock nerfs after just over a week and the only other nerf has been a slap on the wrist to Hunter shatterdrive after 2 months. All while nothing has been done to the Titan roaming super which is still active despite having been activated at the beginning of my post, and having damage resist that's even more ridiculous than the other roaming supers in the game. Now with the new season Hunters get another buff to their amazing melee ability thats basically a thrown sential shield in terms of tracking and Warlock gets a new slew of unneeded nerfs to the point that it now directly hurts the synergy of the subclass in all aspects of play. I just want all of the classes to have their new toys be fun, viable, and be as (relatively as stasis can be) balanced, yet time after time it feels like Warlocks hurt bungie when they were a kid and they will never let it go. VOG coming back must have brought back memories of all that pushing Aethon off the edge.

As someone who does not have the time to commit to another character - please rebalance Warlocks stasis abilities

    Posted: 11 Feb 2021 11:23 AM PST

Between family, work and school, I simply don't have the time to dedicate to an alternate character. I see Titans and Hunters absolutely decimating in PVE and PVP, while my Warlock lags behind in damage output, mobility and survivability.

I really want to just say "fuck it" and roll a hunter, but I just don't have the time. Bungie, please consider people who have put a lot of time into their warlock mains and rollback some of these nerfs.

Edit: Thank you for the gold and silver, folks!

Extraordinary Rendition + Outlaw + Frenzy = The most cracked out fun I've had in this game in a while

    Posted: 11 Feb 2021 07:42 AM PST

I don't know who to thank at Bungie for this conglomeration of undeniable madness, but I salute you.

This gun in Battlegrounds in the peanut butter to my jelly.

    The cookie to my milk.

    The transmat to my firing

The war we have stepped in with the Cabal to my Mars

    Bungie, what the actual fuck.

And I mean WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK

I start this bad boy up and I'm running through Cabal like my ex did with the local lacrosse team on their ski trip she had mentioned she was going on because her friend was "like a brother" I miss you Jessica

I plop right down on to Nessus, or Europa, and I just start going to town with this cracked out pebble shooting piss viper and there is not a damn thing the Cabal can do to stop me. I mean we're not even stepping into war with the Cabal at this point, it's just a full on slaughtering.

I haven't even started trying to pair it up with exotic armor because I'm a merciful god and I don't quite hate the cabal enough... yet.

With that being said there are a couple people I would like to thank for this gun and perks:

gun design team - you guys nailed it.

battleground design team - you nailed it too

My mom - thank you for bringing me into a world where it is possible for me to genocide an alien race with a Fucking pencil Sub Machine Gun.

I don't know if this happiness is going to last with this season. Sure, I'm in the honeymoon phase and all that. But you know the best thing about the Honeymoon phase? Is how much of the NASTY you're doing with the thing you love and by god baby am I doing the nasty with this sub machine gun.

If the big bad going forward really is the Waifu dommy war mommy Xivu Arath, that let my submachine gun be the lubed up whip that strikes her into submission.

It took me at least 100 runs of the menagerie to get my God roll Waking Vigil and Beloved but at least I was guaranteed a chance at that god roll each run.

    Posted: 11 Feb 2021 02:15 PM PST

RNG should be in getting the perks you want. Not in the chance of even obtaining the weapon.

This is a rant after 3 hours in Gambit with no weapon drops. Not one.

Before anyone says "you'll stop playing if you get your god roll" - on the contrary! It got me playing even more because I took those guns into the crucible and had fun with them.

The drop rate of the playlist specific guns feels like early Reckoning drop rates.

    Posted: 11 Feb 2021 11:00 AM PST

I played for the better part of the day during season launch and it was kinda sad to see how many of these guns I got.

Did a bunch of nighfalls and have 0 Shadow Prices

Did a bunch of gambit and got 1 hand cannon with a roll I don't want.

Did a decent amount of PvP and get a stars and shadow.

Bunch of Strike Playlist and got 1 scout rifle.

They don't have to drop all the time but honestly if I'm going g to play for like 12,13 hours I would want more than 2 new guns.

Its way worse when we got umbral back and it took me a couple seconds to get an SMG and working towards focusing it is making me look forward to the grind. I wanted some old moon stuff so I went to the moon and got some. There are straight up better systems in place in the game now that the playlist stuff feels worse.

Why isn’t there a cryptarch in the H.E.L.M.

    Posted: 11 Feb 2021 11:09 AM PST

Title. This isn't a big issue but kinda annoying. So you decided to put a vault, postmaster, and a umbral decoder on the helm but not a cryptarch. Making be go to one destination for one engrams then the other for prime engrams gets frustrating. The lady from the farm still exists right? Look, I understand there are more issues and I get that. This shouldn't be a top priority but it would be greatly appreciated if we could get a cryptarch in the helm.

Every exotic that buffs ONLY a super needs a secondary perk so people have a reason to not just switch on/off of it when they use their super.

    Posted: 11 Feb 2021 11:46 AM PST

Even if it's just something like an inherent "+35 Intellect" or "Orbs of light grant bonus super and ability energy".

Also, most "super-specific" exotics need a small buff, anyway. Maybe not Geomags, but the rest of them.

Bungie, thank you for making 1k, Anarchy and Divinity ornaments AND making them purchasable for bright dust later in the season.

    Posted: 11 Feb 2021 06:23 AM PST

Each of these weapons, excluding 1k, are S tier exotics that have a place in most endgame activities. If xeno didn't exist, 1k would be S tier, instead of A tier. Anarchy never got an ornament beforehand. 1k has exactly one ornament from the black armory season. Divinity had one ornament from the season it launched. I especially love the iron man looking divinity ornament.

Really hoping Bungie breaks the silence on PvP. We need a roadmap. A vague “renewed focus on PvP” won’t cut it this time.

    Posted: 11 Feb 2021 10:49 AM PST

2.5 years of PvP getting neglected.

    • Where are the new game modes?
    • New maps?
    • Big team battles?
    • Multiple team battles (A vs B vs C vs... N)?
    • Absurd freeze time from stasis non-super abilities (maybe they should just slow you instead)
    • 3 peeking

Warlock stasis: An explanation would go a long way toward easing some of the frustration

    Posted: 11 Feb 2021 05:39 PM PST

First we had the admittedly OP melee on the Warlock when stasis was first released. It was very quickly nerf to excess, and took another week to rebalance more appropriately. In the meantime it took months to adjust the Hunter Shatterdive. Then there was the nerf to our stasis super. Just ours, while hunters and titans were untouched.

Now comes this next Season of the Chosen.

Hunters and titans get buffed to even more advantage, and sure enough, warlocks get nerfed yet again.

First we're hit on melee recharge. Then we find that melee damage has taken a massive hit, as well. We're nerfed on grenade aspects. We have no shatter similar to either of the other classes. Our freeze is practically non-existent compared to what other classes can get (1s v. 5s).

There is at least the appearance of a pattern of behavior. Not just with stasis, but going back to Hand Held Supernova and Nova Warp.

We're not asking for much, just a bit of info on what's going on?

Were the melee nerfs unintentional? Can we expect some attention in this tuning pass you mention? Sure there are some who just look for things to complain about, but for most of your players' just letting us know what's up is enough.

Beyond that, this is looking like a pretty nice release. Sure there's some bugs, but with something a massive as this (and as a software engineer, I get how much effort this update required), you all did pretty damn good.

    Thanks in advance.

This is a *minor* nitpick with this season, but going forward more Kinetic weapons and Kinetic Special weapons would be incredibly welcome.

    Posted: 11 Feb 2021 02:52 PM PST

I know it's only been two days since Season of the Chosen has officially launched, and while it has been a damn good time to be playing, I've noticed one glaring problem with the current weapon availability checklist:

There are precious few new Kinetic weapons, much less Kinetic Special weapons.

With sunsetting being a permanent facet of the game, and with the amount of dramatic shakeups in the sandbox already since the launch of Beyond Light, this slot can't really be ignored, for the sake of many builds and preferences.

While I wouldn't want a season where the vast majority of the new weapons available are kinetics or special kinetics, I kinda feel like we need one to bring balance to the scales.

The only real disappointment I have this season thus far is the fact that Salvager's Salvo isn't a Kinetic GL, instead yet another energy GL. I miss having a GL in that slot.

Hopefully in the future it gets touched up on.
