This week at Bungie, we revealed Season of the Chosen.

A new Season is upon us. Next week, Season of the Chosen goes live on February 9. Empress Caiatl has arrived to fight against the Hive. She has proposed an alliance, but the cost is too high, and whether he wanted it or not, Zavala is faced with a difficult choice. Check out the trailer to see how that conversation went down.

    Video Link

We have a whole page dedicated to details about the new Season. Give it a visit to learn about the new private staging ground called the H.E.L.M., our new matchmade Battlegrounds activity, and more.

Here is the full Seasonal calendar laying out what you can expect from Season of the Chosen, and what dates to carve out for universe saving.

    Spoils of War

Season of the Chosen is delivering some shiny new things for you to collect.

We already spilled the beans that for the first time, some of the favorite weapons from Destiny 1 are showing up in Destiny 2 as rewards for completing Nightfall: The Ordeal. Here is the lineup:

    • The Swarm
    • Palindrome
    • Shadow Price

    Image Linkimgur

Nightfall: The Ordeal weapons have a chance to drop at the end of the activity depending on your medal (Platinum, Gold, etc.) and difficulty. Master difficulty will give you the highest chance at a drop of the base versions of these weapons.

Adept difficulty weapons have a chance to drop at the end of a Grandmaster Nightfall when they go live later in the Season. Drop chance also dependent on your medal. Slay enough Champions to hit Platinum and you will have a high chance at an Adept weapon.

    Hot Pursuit

Similar to Season of the Hunt, we will have a new Pursuit weapon for you to earn from your quest of choice. Choose between strikes, Crucible, or Gambit to earn the new Breech Loaded Grenade Launcher, Salvager's Salvo.

    Image Linkimgur

After you have obtained your new tool of destruction you will be able to earn three different ornaments for it from additional quests picked up from Zavala, Lord Shaxx, and the Drifter.

    Trials

    Image Linkimgur

You may have already seen some teases of the new rewards for the Trials of Osiris coming with Season of the Chosen. We also have three new Trials weapons.

    Image Linkimgur

Here is another shot of the new armor you will be able to start earning when Trials goes live on February 12.

    Image Linkimgur

Each weapon will also have an Adept version with special mods, you can read more about those here, as well as a special shader that can be applied to any Adept weapon, even the ones from the Grandmaster Nightfall.

For the first week of Trials, armor and adept mods will be in the Flawless Chest. The second week is when you'll have your first chance of the Season to grab an Adept weapon.

Along with these new weapons and armor, Trials has some new cosmetic rewards to show off as well. The Ghost Shell drop chances increases as you win matches and increases when you hit the 3/5/7 win and flawless milestones each week. The ship and Sparrow drop chances increase every time you go flawless. Here is a look at the rewards!

But wait, there's more. Season of Chosen has several new additions to your arsenal ready for the taking.

    Cult of Aeon

The team has some cool plans to shake up the Aeon suite of Exotics. Here it is straight from the Destiny Dev team on what you can expect when you equip these arms.

Destiny Dev Team: In redesigning the Aeon Cult Exotic armor pieces, we wanted to lean hard into the idea that these are the Exotics you and your fireteam wear when you really want to work together as a team. With that in mind, we had three main goals for the revamped mechanics:

    • Create role-based mechanics that reward you for doing the things that your role is supposed to be good at.
    • Create mechanics that reward other players on your fireteam when you fulfill your role.
    • Give your fireteam incentive for each player to take on a different role.

Instead of having a single, monolithic Exotic perk to handle this, we opted to take a page out of the Armor 2.0 book and give the Aeon Cult Exotics their own, unique mod socket and mods, which are all unlocked as soon as you acquire the Exotic and each of which is tied to one of the different Aeon Cult roles. These mods are identical across the Exotics for all three classes, so you can choose any role regardless of what class or subclass you are playing.

The three Aeon Cult mods, and their associated mechanics, are as follows:

    Image Linkimgur

Each of these mods has one perk that focuses on the user, and one perk that grants benefits to their allies. Additionally, the second perk includes an extra benefit for anyone in your fireteam that has not chosen the same role, so for maximum efficiency each member of the 3-player fireteam should choose a different mod to reap the most benefits.

    Catalyst Comeback

In a previous TWAB discussing the Destiny Content Vault we mentioned that some of the content being vaulted would affect several Exotic weapon catalysts and we would be temporarily removing them while we worked to update their drop and upgrade sources.

Catalysts for the following weapons have had their drop sources and objectives updated to not be associated with Vaulted content:

    • Bad Juju
    • Izanagi's Burden
    • Sleeper Simulant
    • The Huckleberry
    • Worldline Zero
    • Polaris Lance
    • Telesto
    • Legend of Acrius
    • Skyburner's Oath

The catalysts for Whisper of the Worm and Outbreak Perfected are still unobtainable for anyone who hasn't already earned them and will be added in a future update.

    Prime Gaming

Last week, a new set of rewards were made available through Prime Gaming. Once you sign up here and link your Bungie.net account, you can go and claim your rewards. They will be waiting for you in the safe care of Amanda Holliday in the hangar portion of the Tower.

    • Graviton Lance
    • Carina Nebula Exotic Weapon Ornament
    • Cosmos Shell Exotic Ghost Shell
    • Avalon Courser Legendary Sparrow

    Image Linkimgur

Check back next month and we will have a new shipment of Prime Gaming rewards for you to pick up from Amanda.

    SDR CONSOLE UPDATE

Steam Datagram Relay is coming to consoles during Season of the Chosen, but we need to do more testing and fixes before it's ready to go live.

Rally Barricade needs a buff AND BUNGIE ALREADY HAS THE ANSWER

    Posted: 04 Feb 2021 10:52 AM PST

Since Bungie's war on auto reloading elements in the game, the Rally barricade has seen a huge usage decline in both PvE and PvP. You can make a case for it in niche scenarios in PvE but it's dead in PvP especially with the functionality of the Citan's Ramparts.

Fear not though because Bungie has been sitting on the answer for years: GUERRILLA FIGHTER

Guerrilla Fighter was a D1 perk that activated when you were behind waist-high cover. The perk was seldom seen because it was incredibly hard to find structures in PvE and PvP that were waist level. It gave a number of benefits:

    • Accuracy: 15-20% recoil reduction

    • Handling: 40-50% increase in ADS speed

    • Damage Resistance: 20% damage reduction

In PvE, this could allow things like firing line weapons to have more functionality as not only do you get the boost to reload but you gain the recoil reduction and ADS to help make landing shots easier. While in PvP, this give titans just a bit more tankiness. Before you jump on me for giving titans more tankiness, hear me out. This wouldn't prevent you from killing them with a well placed sniper or slug headshot when they are behind their barricade nor is it as spammable as its other 20% damage reduction counterpart in shatterdive.

I think this could really add a bit more functionality to Rally barricades and save them from the current graveyard they are in.

EDIT: Thank you so much for the Gold, Silver, and awards!!!

It'd be really nice if exotics that come from Legend/Master lost sectors were made available from the world Loot pool after obtaining them

    Posted: 04 Feb 2021 03:59 AM PST

Most long time players have all exotics and mostly have good rolls for all exotics they use. This eventually results in players getting exotic drops that either gives them a useless exotic piece they never use or getting an exotic they do use but already have a good roll for, resulting in exotic drop still being useless. This used to slightly change when a new exotic armor piece would get introduced and make the exotic world loot pool actually have some worth to players in hope that they get a good roll for that new exotic.

However, that's not the case anymore. Since new exotics are now only available through lost sectors. It's fine if the new exotic initially only drops from lost sectors since most players do like the fact that there's some challenge to unlocking the new exotic. The issue is that even if you get the new exotic armor from the lost sector, it's still limited to only coming from the lost sectors. That results in the exotic world pool still being usless and if a player didn't get a good roll from their first drop, it means have to farm the lost sector over and over and gamble with the rng of an exotic dropping, then getting the specific exotic they want and then hope the stat roll is what they're looking for. It's not a great experience.

Upon getting the new exotic pieces from the lost sectors, it should be allowed to be obtained through all exotic sources in the game, such as random exotic drops, doing Nightfalls, or buying Xur's engram. This gives all those sources value every new season and expansion instead of just becoming more and more useless. The last time the world exotic loot pool got updated was back in Season of Worthy, almost an entire YEAR ago.

For people wondering if the new seasonal weapons are reskins of Levi weapons Here is a comparison!

    Posted: 04 Feb 2021 03:54 PM PST

First image is what a true reskin os like, Og better devils and true prophecy...

Now, with regards to the new weapons, IMO, They are not reskins at all

Here is the Link to the images:

    https://imgur.com/a/LCxcGO3

The closest one is the Rocket launcher one, but the "swirly" barrel, and sharp shak-like fin on top of it make it seem different enough

To be honest if U still want to say these are reskins I would still argue this is Smart use of base models rather than reskins

Reskins is something like better devils, true prophecy and steady hand... Amidst all the bad we have in the game RN, let us be a little more selective on what we decide to criticize about... these weapons are not reskins

Didn't we already go through this exact same situation before with the last ritual weapon?

    Posted: 04 Feb 2021 06:25 PM PST

Before Beyond Light and Season of the Hunt launched people were worried about the ritual weapon Adored because they thought it would literally be beloved 2.0 and that it would negate beloved being sunset. And then when it dropped people realized that it was simply a really reliable fixed sniper roll that was good for both PVE and PVP but wouldn't break the meta or anything because it didn't have quickdraw like beloved. Now with the reveal of the Salvager's Salvo some people are freaking out thinking that we are getting mountaintop 2.0 even though its a ritual not a pinnacle so it won't have micro missile.

    Caiatl: Bow

    Posted: 04 Feb 2021 04:48 PM PST

Zavala: What the fuck did you just fucking say about me, you little bitch? I'll have you know I graduated top of my class in as the travellers chosen, and I've been involved in secret raids on Riven, and I have over 3,000,000 confirmed kills. I am trained in in guerilla warfare and I'm the top sniper in the guardian force. You are nothing to me but just another target. I will wipe you out with precision the likes of which has never been seen before in this Galaxy, mark my words. You think you can get away with telling me to bow? Think again, fucker. As we speak I am contacting Ikora`s network of Hidden across the Solar System and your legion is being traced right now so you better prepare for the storm, maggot. The storm that wipes out the pathetic little thing you call your life. You're fucking dead, kid. I can be anywhere, anytime, and I can kill you seven hundred ways, and that's just with my bare light. Not only am I extensively trained in in unarmed combat, but I have access to the entire arsenal of the Tower and I will use it to its full extent to wipe your ass off the face of the Universe, you little shit. If only you could have known what unholy retribution your little command was about to bring down upon you, maybe you would have held your tongue. You didn't, and now you're paying the price, you goddamn idiot. I will shit all over you and you will drown in it. You're fucking dead, kiddo.

I hope we see the H.E.L.M. beyond Season Of The Chosen

    Posted: 04 Feb 2021 04:45 PM PST

I was a fan of the old Vanguard table in Destiny 1, as it was a central hub for the leaders of the Tower to get together and strategize. It was also cool seeing those characters interact with each other. Ever since the end of the Red War, the Vanguard and all other vendors in the Tower have felt far too distant for my liking. Seeing the Vanguard come together into one hub (and possibly the new Hunter Vanguard) would be amazing. I hope the H.E.L.M. is featured as more of a centerpiece in future expansions and seasons rather than just a hub for SotC alone.

I would really really appreciate having a ghost mod in the near future that can give me the chance of obtaining an enhancement core/prism by defeating champions or final boss of a legendary/master lost sector.

[Towerthought] Ikora probably already knows about Crow and has for a while.

    Posted: 04 Feb 2021 01:14 PM PST

Ikora is the head of the Hidden, the Vanguard's spy network. There have been rumors since before last year's Dawning of a Lightbearer bearing a resemblance to Uldren Sov.

There is a near 100% chance that once those rumors reached Ikora she would direct the Hidden to investigate them, and they would find that it is true because the Hidden make the CIA, KGB, MI6, and Mossad look like rank amateurs. And they would see us working with Crow, because there's no way Ikora wouldn't have him constantly watched.

Now, the question is, why wouldn't Ikora confront us about this?

Pop Quiz! You're running the revamped Aeon exotics, have the Sect of Insight mod equipped, and use a finisher on a Champion. Which ammo brick will it drop?

    Posted: 04 Feb 2021 03:35 PM PST

This week's TWAB revealed the Aeon exotics are getting reworked, and have three exclusive mods to equip. Here's part of the description for the Sect of Insight mod:

When you use a finisher on an Elite, you generate Special ammo for your fireteam; when you use a finisher on a boss or miniboss, you generate Heavy ammo for your fireteam.

Enemies in Destiny are typically divided into Minor, Major, and Boss/Vehicle. We even have Spec mods for each category. The Sect of Insight mod describes two categories not seen elsewhere in the game, Elite and Miniboss.

Confused? Hope not, because it's time for the Pop Quiz! Champions fall under which category:

    • Minor
    • Major
    • Boss
    • Elite
    • Miniboss
    • Vehicle

Answer quickly, your fireteam of Aeon Cultists is counting on that Heavy ammo brick! Or, will it be a Special ammo brick?

This post is meant to be tongue in cheek. But sheesh, Bungie. Get your terminology sorted.

I spend way too much time in the Collections menu, seeing how I'd look with different shaders...

    Posted: 04 Feb 2021 08:51 PM PST

Please remove if this is redundant, or goes against any rules!

Hello all, see the title! I'm just getting back into playing D2 after about a year's break, on a new console and everything. I spent way too much time looking to see how my guardian looks with different shaders and realizing that I can't obtain like 75% of them just because I wasn't playing at a specific given time 1 year ago. This really sucks in a game that emphasizes customizing your guardian - it's disheartening to see the "perfect look" and then realize that oops, I wasn't playing Iron Banner during Season of Opulence so I can't ever get that color.

Wouldn't it be great if there was a way to earn those locked shaders over time? Maybe like Xur's fated engram, Xenology quest, or something similar?

I think it’d be really cool if we got mod load outs

It would be such a massive QoL improvement because you won't need to spend minutes slotting different mods because you want to use a different build, but instead just press one thing and bam, all of you mods have been switched.

Three-man the Brutal Haste triumph with The Lament

    Posted: 04 Feb 2021 07:02 PM PST

Disclaimer: I know, I know, Altars of Sorrow is ancient content. (My friends are sure to bring that up every time I mention how nice it would be to have my last Moon triumph crossed off the list.)

Anyway, things have finally settled down enough this season so I blocked off the first 30 minutes of our raid night for an attempt, and even pre-matched with a friend in the area so we'd have 4 empty fireteam slots.

It turns out that we needed none of the meticulous planning we did, and accidentally earned the triumph on a practice run with only three of us:

Witness all the goofs: arriving late to the party, missing the crit shot with my golden gun, shoddy swordsmanship on the secondary boss, and hesitating every step of the way.

In the end, though, results are all that matter. Besides all using The Lament, one of my two teammates (appearing as blueberries) provided a weapons of light bubble and all three of used a "charged with light" mod.

    Hope this helps!

Not putting new weapons in the comp playlist is a major missed opportunity for encouraging PvP engagement.

As drop rewards. Not as glory rewards.

Palindrome of all guns could have been added to the comp or casual playlists to boost engagement numbers. Just saying.

Edit: I mean to say separate weapons should have been added to the separate playlists. Some for comp, some for qp.
