    Bungie, can we "favorite" shaders?

    Posted: 26 May 2021 08:27 PM PDT

The new appearance customization screen is great in many ways. Now that it's in place, let's talk improvements.

It would be great to be able to "favorite" shaders to have them sort to the first page.

I can't imagine this would be too difficult a feature to add!

Star-Eater Scales - Misinformation, Miscommunication, and what actually changed with it

    Posted: 26 May 2021 10:16 AM PDT

Inspired by this post, by u/redditisnotgood - cheers! (Edit: this post was made prior to Cozmo's reply; see his full comment at the bottom of this post)

Seeing a lot of wires crossed, both from a subjective and objective sense. A lot of Guardians are miffed and/or confused at the Star-Eater Scales changes recently, but the rampant misinformation and miscommunication from Bungie's part is causing even more distress than it already is.

I'd like to point out that I maintain the Destiny 2 Information Spreadsheets - this contains the giant Buffs/Debuffs Database you've maybe seen or heard about. My post here is put a purely objective point-of-view from my data scientist-ing findings. I'm not really here to say if Star-Eater was truly "nerfed" or "buffed", but I will comment on the fact that it received a buff to potency, but a nerf in practicality.

    Patch Notes

Star-Eater, on the 3.2.0.2 Hotfix, received the following changes:

    • Fixed an issue where Star-Eater Scales was erroneously applying its damage bonus to weapons and grenades instead of only Supers as intended.

    • Increased the maximum number of stacks required for the full damage bonus from four stacks to eight stacks.

The contentious line is the bottom one. I don't think people genuinely thought the Weapon/Grenade damage boost you had pre-hotfix was intended. I certainly didn't - as I exclaimed this to the various Destiny Data Discords and scientists during the first time I tested this Exotic. It calls back to the days of not only Empowering Buff stacking (Well, Bubble, etc) but stacking of Global Debuffs (Tractor, Melting Point, etc) - this was unsustainable, and goes against Bungie's philosophy of creating encounters/activities. It was fun while it lasted - especially popping a Tether and unloading your double-damage weapons.

So the bottom line then. This is causing a lot of confusion, and even for me it was initially like "Wait, what? You need EIGHT stacks now?". Over the last 24 hours there has been plenty of testing and back-and-forth what this actually means. "8 Stacks = 8 Orbs" or "It's affecting Tether's Debuff". A lot of confusion, and unfortunately this has spread like wildfire - no thanks to the confusing Patch Notes terminology and possible error implementing the fixes/changes in-game.

    Recap of Star-Eater's Effects (pre-Hotfix)

Here's a general sense of the technicalities of this Exotic:

    • Star-Eater Scales provides a Super-empowering buff called "Feast of Light" - picking up Orbs of Power incrementally adds stacks, up to 4x. 1 Orb = 1x Stack. Popping your Super at X amount of stacks consumes them and provides you with Y damage increase versus normal Super use.
    • Picking up Orbs of Power while charging your Super provided ~50% Super Energy gain versus a normal non-Exotic Orb of Power pickup.
    • Consuming Feast of Light at 4x provides an Overshield for 16 seconds.
    • Casting your Super provides a burst of healing.

Previously you required 4 Orbs of Power to gain 4 Stacks of Feast of Light. Each increment was 15% (so 1x = 15%, 2x = 30%, 3x = 45%, 4x = 60%). As stated above, this was also erroneously affecting Weapon/Grenade damage. This has been removed.

    What Has Actually Changed

The latter effects (Overshield/Burst of Healing) are still present. Let's concentrate on the big changes:

    • Picking up Orbs of Power incrementally adds stacks, up to 4x - however this (potentially erroneously) is not displaying the true numbers in-game. Each Orb of Power pickup is worth a "0.5" or "half-stack".
    • Each "half-stack" provides a 11.25% increment; this goes all the way up to 4x Stacks for 90% damage increase (11.25% > 22.5% > 33.75% > 45% > 56.25% > 67.5% > 78.75% > 90%)
    • For example: 2 Orbs = 1 Stack; 5 Orbs = 2.5 Stacks; 7 Orbs = 3.5 Stacks
    • The "size" (Large or Small) of Orbs make no difference to increments

The reason why I put "potentially erroneously" because this modus operandi of stacks is very uncommon for Destiny to have, and I'm thinking this could potentially be a UI bug. Try it yourself: pick up just 1 Orb, you'll notice no "Feast of Light" Buff on the bottom left, but damaging with your Super will do 11.25% more damage than if you didn't.

This has lead a lot of Guardians to believe there is some cooldown, or bug of Orbs of Power pickups, or the types of Orbs (Large and Small) causing issues, are present. From my extensive testing I found nothing to suggest any of these things.

    Stacking and the "Buff"/"Nerf" Comment

The reason why I won't directly describe this as either or is - once again purely objectively - because the actual damage of Star-Eater Scales max stacks has increased from 60%, to 90%. I happily accept this isn't strictly "true" because previously at 4 Orbs you had max stacks of 60%, now you'd only have 2x stacks of only 45%. But the potency of this Exotic is still present - gaining 8 Orbs of Power while your Super is charged provides a 90% damage increase. This does mean "holding on" to your Super, but this crosses the line of subjective comments which I'll leave you to decide if its "worth it".

This 90% (or any stacks) damage increase is also stack-able (and was prior to the recent changes). I'll list all the things you can use this effect with and on:

    • Bottom Gunslinger's "Knock 'em Down" Effect - combine Feast of Light 4x (8 Orbs) with this 30% increase to Golden Gun damage allows for almost 80% MORE damage than Celestial Nighthawk**
    • Without Knock 'em Down, combining Feast of Light 4x (8 Orbs) with 3 Precision Golden Gun shots allows for 38% MORE damage than Celestial Nighthawk**
    • Middle Arcstrider's "Whirlwind Guard" Effect - Whirlwind Guard provides 200% increased Super damage on deflection of most damage; this stacks on top of Feast of Light - potentially providing 470% more damage for every deflection-boosted swing
    • Middle Nightstalker (Spectral)'s "Flawless Execution" Effect - a Global Debuff, but a commonly forgotten one. Meleeing a target while under the effects of Flawless Execution [Precision kill while crouched] debuffs them for 30% - combine that with a Feast of Light-empowered Spectral Blades and slice-and-dice (147% more damage) that Boss, if that's your style

*\* I know I'll get questions: Yes, this is devastating news for Celestial Nighthawk.. on paper - in practice you're still going to find Celestial Nighthawk a more viable option as combining Knock 'em Down (which itself requires its own maintenance and investment) + Feast of Light 4x (8 Orbs) + landing 3 Precision hits requires so much more investment than just landing 1 shot. Those 8 Orbs could be well used for a top-up for another Celestial Nighthawk anyway...

A lot of attention towards the common Hunter Supers, but what about everything else? I'm going to assume 4x (8 Orbs) Stacks for this section:

    • Revenant: 90% increased damage to the Silence and Squall linger and AOE effects - Revenant isn't a "damage" Super so this won't be something to cause alarm, but it's interesting to see it affecting it
    • Blade Barrage: 90% increased damage to every one of those prickly knives - BB is a bit of an ugly duckling in terms of Super DPS, but if this floats your boat then go nuts
    • Nightstalker (Bottom Tree): 90% increased damage to every Anchor damage to a debuffed target (i.e. affected by a Tether Anchor) - this tree already does massive amount of damage, combining with Star-Eater exponentially increasing the Super DPS

Finally, I've seen and heard a lot of commentary and rumours that Top Tree Nightstalker is affected by stacks of Feast of Light. Guardians have said it improves the "debuff effects" (from 30% base to whatever) - but I've seen no evidence to suggest this. My tests today proved that this is not the case - Star-Eater Scales does NOT "improve" Tether's Debuff. The only effects it has on Tether Top Tree are the explosion damage made when Tethered Combatants are defeated.

    ++++

    TL;DR:

    • Star-Eater Scales stacks go up in increments of 0.5, up to 4 (potentially a UI bug)
    • 1 Orb of Power provides a single 0.5 stack increment
    • At 4x Stacks (8 Orbs of Power) your Supers do 90% more damage and can stack with Super-empowering Effects like Knock 'em Down
    • No, Top Tree Debuff Effect (30%) is NOT affected by Star-Eater Scales
    • Previously before the hotfix changes, 4x Stacks (4 Orbs of Power) was 60% more damage and was erroneously affecting Weapon and Grenade damage (this has been fixed)
    • Star-Eater Scales other effects (~50% more Super Energy gain on Orb pickup, and 16s Overshield casting at max stacks) are still present

    ++++

Edit: u/Cozmo23 replied to the aforementioned post with this reply:

Bad news is that this is a bug and we will be fixing it in the future.

Good news is we plan on leaving the upside damage increased more than it was before Hotfix 3.2.0.2 earlier this week.

The goal of the change to SES was to increase the reward for risking losing your stacks of Feast of Light to try and get up to 8 stacks. When the bug is fixed, 8 stacks will still provide a higher bonus than the original max stacks damage bonus, and 4 stacks will be a slightly smaller bonus than the original max stacks damage bonus.

Bad luck protection for Eyes of Tomorrow is clearly still bugged at this point, and I'm terrified that Vex Mythoclast is using the same broken system

    Posted: 26 May 2021 09:40 AM PDT

Following the Hotfix for the Eyes of Tomorrow bad luck protection on March 23, it is extremely clear at this point in time that the fix was not successful, and the drop rate is still not working correctly.

The TWAB from that period said the following:

"So even if you continue to be extremely unlucky -- after this fix the Exotic is guaranteed to drop in the next few months if you have been raiding each week."

It has now been 10 weeks since this hotfix and dozens upon dozens of players who have been raiding every single week on all characters continue to struggle with obtaining Eyes of Tomorrow. This is so statistically unlikely that the only conclusion after this period of time is that the system is not working correctly.

I am personally at 74 weekly looted clears for DSC and yet to see it. I have spent nearly 4 straight days of my life doing that raid.

    https://raid.report/pc/4611686018481621912

Every single raid I do there's at least one other person in the same boat with clears in the 60s and 70s. There are still numerous people who have provided feedback that they have done the raid on all characters every single week since release (80+ looted clears) and not seen it.

Something is clearly not working correctly with the bad luck protection if it takes 6+ months of consistent play to still be searching for the raid exotic. Requiring 70-80+ weekly clears is just obscene.

And now with the arrival of Vault of Glass, I am dreading that Bungie has simply adopted the exact same broken bad luck protection system for that raid (thinking that it was fixed), putting unlucky players in the awful position of being locked out of titles and exciting loot.

Please Bungie, the back luck protection really needs to be investigated again and it must be made sure that the system for Vault of Glass has not adopted the same issues.

    Buff Vex Mythoclast

    Posted: 26 May 2021 02:07 PM PDT

Vex mythoclast, as we know, is the new raid exotic. Despite this, overall the weapon is fairly mediocre and its stats are abysmal, especially for its archetype.

Vex is a high impact auto rifle and shoots exactly like one, but it's range is terrible at about 10m less then its legendary counterparts. Also its stability is fairly low in class. Why? Its an exotic 360 auto with horrendous stats. There is no reason for it to be so piss poor.

Its only benefit is the linear fusion form which requires kills with the poor statted weapon and is heavily punished by the charges disappearing when stowed. Both we and bungie know that at some point you need to use your other weapons. On top of that just maining one weapon 24/7 just isn't that fun. Let me also use my other weapons, I have three for a reason.

Please buff this gun bungie. Why are its stats so bad? Why do all of the charges disappear when stowing? Why not just some or no charges? Even with the catalyst you still need a kill for the stability to become good and even then it still has terrible range. Come on bungie, the rest of the loot from vog is top tier, just not the rarest weapon. The gun is fun but in the majority of cases it ranges from decent to just plain bad, fix this gun bungie.

Can we have curated raid weapons again? They were really awesome during year 2.

    Posted: 26 May 2021 08:26 PM PDT

Last wish will still drop special versions of most guns that come masterworked. During year 2, they were called the curated rolls. If you look on light.gg, you'll see each weapon has a curated roll and it says it may or may not drop in the game. I wish year 3 and 4 raids had this feature. It especially comes to mind with vault and having the curated roll be close to it's destiny 1 counterpart.

The opening area to Vault of Glass is great for farming catalyst kills.

    Posted: 26 May 2021 02:48 PM PDT

Just some SGA. It's never ending Vex with no wish to put in and wipe/banner like Shuro-Chi.

I'd say it's on par with thrallway but easier since all you have to do is load in!

    Happy catalyst farming, guardians!

Catalyst quests like Witherhoard or Eriana's Vow are egregious and unreasonable.

    Posted: 26 May 2021 05:03 AM PDT

If you didn't play during Season of the Undying, get ready to play 400 Strikes, Gambit and Crucible matches. No, raids, seasonal activities, dungeons, exotic missions, etc. don't count, you can only run repetitive content and you need to run it 400 times. Even though we get a catalyst quest booster every season that only applies to the current seasonal quest? Why? This is ridiculous

Expunge: It's weird to do an activity that feels almost as cool as the Whisper mission and get no reward...

    Posted: 26 May 2021 10:00 AM PDT

Just ran Expunge for the first time, and it was SUPER cool!

The jumping section was giving me strong Whisper vibes, even if the boss was WAY easier. But when I was done, I got a crappy roll on some at-level armor. The mission seems WAY too cool to have such a lackluster reward. I wasn't expecting a new exotic or anything, but I'm surprised that there is nothing really tied to it at all.

I assume it's supposed to reward a weekly pinnacle, and it's just bugged like a lot of the drops. (ETA: It's supposed to reward high-stat armor, then pinnacles later. Although my armor wasn't very good.) But even then, I feel like the amount of work that went into this is sort of wasted on what it is.

Hopefully it becomes more meaningful in some way.

ETA: I know it has some updates/additions scheduled on the roadmap. I hope they add more cool stuff. I guess I was just hoping for something with secrets and reasons to replay it and engage with it, like Whisper/Outbreak/Harbinger/Presage, and not something that you just dip into once a week to grab the pinnacle and never think about again, like the Exo challenge.

Bungie, make a once-a-week consumable that lets you guarantee the next pinnacle drop is in ___ slot

    Posted: 26 May 2021 08:12 PM PDT

Sincerely, from a guardian who has gone 30 pinnacles (15 pinnacle sources x2 from the last two weekly resets) without a chest armor drop. (Yes I've mid-maxed along the way).

Make it a xur cost, like exotic cypher. Make it cost 1 golf ball if you want. Make it cost 3 golf balls. But please, help us remove at least a tiny bit of bad rng at least once a week.

Getting 5 drops plus 4 (some "secret" and some not) chests makes VoG the most rewarding raid in destiny 2 history. I love it.

    Posted: 26 May 2021 07:35 AM PDT

The raid prior to this with the most loot was Last Wish, with 5 encounter drops and 2 secret chests. Garden and DSC had 4 encounter drops and 2 secret chests. Making the raid more rewarding was a really cool call. Well done, Bungie!

Removing armor from the Season Pass also removed the only power dupe protection

    Posted: 26 May 2021 11:53 AM PDT

Before I get started, I want to put a few things out there:

    • Yes, my lizard brain likes it when the big number gets bigger.
    • Yes, the previous season pass could be used, but I used it due to dupes last season.
    • Yes, there's plenty of time to get to pinnacle cap and few reasons to get there.
    • No, I don't want to grind bounties endlessly to get power high enough for day one grandmaster.
    • Yes, I understand that all of this is based on RNG.
    • No, I'm not burnt out and still love playing the game, even activities that I'm not a fan of so a break isn't really needed.
    • Yes, I do like taking a break at the end of each season for other games.

Alright, now that all of that is out of the way... Bungie, you mentioned in a TWAB last year that powerful or pinnacle duplicate protection was being looked into. After that mention? It fell off of the face of the planet. That sucks, but we always had a fallback in the season pass armor. One point off of the next power increase and you haven't received a class item in two weeks? Bam. Grab one from the season pass to be at level, get over that power hump, and get on with life. This was a bandaid that many others and I used to deal with the glaring issue of duplicates.

Now that's gone and duplicates have become increasingly painful. As an example, I received 9 Found Verdicts across all three characters this past weekend. My energy slot increased by 1 point. After doing all pinnacles on all three characters across multiple weeks, I have a bevy of these examples that I've dealt with along with countless within the clan. At this point, crazy people (myself included) who complete as many of these activities as possible, can be at the same power or lower than people with only one character all thanks to the luck or lack thereof.

An argument could be made that powerful rewards could be used to try and backfill those lower items, but those rewards aren't protected either. Seriously, if anyone needs middling energy weapons around 1315, I want to hand them out. Bungie, your focus may be on increasing playtime with these changes, but it is at a severe detriment to the respect of the player's time. I don't like every pinnacle activity; I've played those gambit maps without any meaningful changes to the playlist for years now, but I still go in dutifully because lizard brain likes it when numbers go up. It feels really bad though to feel like the time is being wasted no matter how enjoyable the activity may be.

Are there solutions? I believe so and I believe they are achievable:

    • First, bring back season pass armor until a better system is put into place. It's not much, but it's something at least.
    • One option would be simple duplicate protection. It doesn't have to be 100% but three of the same slot back-to-back seems egregious. There will still be times that suck with this, but it happens. That's RNG.
    • The other option would (unfortunately) require another currency. I'm assuming the game is able to track when an item would not increase power. If so, after two duplicate pinnacles that don't provide any power increase at all, an item could drop that would allow the player to increase the power of one item for that character by +1. This means RNG might prevent the player from getting a +2 or +1 from multiple activities in the slot, but the player would end up gaining at least a +1 at the cost of up to +4.

I know those aren't a lot of ideas, but as said before even the season pass armor was better than nothing.

Sanguine Alchemy is Literally Completely Useless, an essay.

    Posted: 26 May 2021 06:03 AM PDT

Let's start with its exotic perk for context: Blood Magic Weapon kills while standing in any rift pause the rifts countdown, extending its duration. Further kills maintain and extend the length of the pause.

So, it's an exotic that extends rift time. Neat right? Useful right? That's a big fat nope homie.

There are three Warlock subclasses with abilities based around Rifts, that you might think could take advantage of this, but let me explain why each one doesn't need this at all and why Sanguine falls into the category of Completely Useless.

    • Subclass #1 - Attunement of Grace

This subclass comes with the perk Benevolent Dawn, which gives you increased ability regeneration whenever you heal or empower an ally. If you cast your rift and your buddy stands in it you can get your rift back before the old one even expires at maximum recovery. The subclass has a built-in 100% uptime on rifts when used properly to support you allies. So why would we opt to extend our rift timers when we can just refresh them?

    • Subclass #2 - Attunement of the Elements

This is the "Arc Souls" subclass, and it comes with the perk Electrostatic Surge. Now this one I'm going to quote directly: Your Rift lasts longer. It charges faster when allies are near. Once again, this Rift-based subclass inately comes with an extended rift timer, and fast regen, so again I have to ask: why would I opt to use Sanguine?

    • Subclass #3 - Shadebinder

This Stasis subclass comes with the Aspect Frostpulse that sends out a freeze wave whenever you cast your rift. Extending your rift timer isn't exactly useful when the ability is on-cast. If this said "enemies who enter your rift are slowed" you can sure bet that putting a rift in a doorway and equipping Sanguine would be the play, but it's not, so it isn't.

But it's perk is called Blood Magic it's all edgy and cool right, kinda Vampire-esque? That should pair nicely with Attunement of Hunger, the Vampire-like subclass? Lol no that subclass is based around grenades, not rifts.

So, where does Sanguine Alchemy go? Which subclass is it meant to synergise with? The answer is: it doesn't go anywhere, it gets dismantled. It doesn't synergise with anything. This exotic is, literally, completely useless.

    Nostalgia is great but....

    Posted: 26 May 2021 09:31 PM PDT

I swear every time I see suggestions for things in this game it's like at least 70% things that were in D1. I mean I just saw someone say they hope we get No Backup Plans back. Fucking No Backup plans has one of the most uninspired and boring exotic perks of like any exotics, it did look pretty cool but that's not the point.

The point I'm trying to make is the community seems really complacent and is wiling to get anything into this game at this point. Like VoG was cool but is that really all you guys are satisficed with, you really don't want another Deep Stone or Last Wish level raid? You're fine with getting Crota's End back.

I'm honestly just curious what other people think but from what I've seen this community's expectation for new and well done content has just gone down and down over the years and at least for me the game is getting boring as a result. We still haven't had such simple things as a vendor refresh and did lost like 60% of the game and everyone just seems chill with it which I don't understand.

The new titan exotic has a face on the kneepads

    Posted: 26 May 2021 06:15 AM PDT

The nerf to boots of the assembler, and why warlocks have too many rift exotics.

    Posted: 26 May 2021 04:30 AM PDT

In case you didn't know, they nerfed boots of the assembler, by making the class ability regeneration paused while the boots were extending the rift duration.

The reason they did this is because they said it was to prevent game crashes by having too many rift's place in a single activity. And to restore some of the advantage to running Sanguine alchemy. (Which no one is going to do).

Honestly bungie we as warlocks have too many useless rift exotics. And alot of us was hyped when we first saw boots of the assembler because we thought it would convert our rift into just noble rounds and we didn't have to stand in a rift. A bit like how icefall mantle works, because let's be real, alot of us hate how shit rift's are in pvp. Pve they can have there uses, but also in pve we don't do alot of standing still either.

Currently we have boots of the assembler, sanguine alchemy, the stag, lunafaction boots, vesper of radius, and promethium spurs. All as rift based exotics. And nobody really uses these because they feel bad to use to be stuck in one position whether it be PvP or pve. At least with boots of the assembler, I didn't have to have ago at my teammates for dying for not being in my rift. And lunafactions don't get used since the nerf. Unless you want to double slug shotgun a boss.

What I am trying to say bungie, instead of nerfing a new exotic that was getting people to use lumina in pvp or something else that isn't phoenix protocol in pve. How about we rework those terrible unused exotics, or just have a look at rift viability in general. (While your at it warlock melee speed is still lower than the other. Just bring the range down and buff the speed please.)

P.S please don't take this as a sign to nerf phoenix protocol, nobody would like you for that.

WARNING, inspecting another player in crossplay strikes can cause catastrophic crashes at least on PS5

    Posted: 26 May 2021 03:32 AM PDT

I didnt know what the cause was at first, after doing it once I got error code beagle requiring a full reinstall of D2. After doing it again and needing another reinstall I'm assuming its this. Both times were before even landing so this may be crossplay in general rather than just inspecting. Regardless PS5 players at least should be careful going into the crossplay beta.

Banshee is selling a very good Toil and Trouble today

It's got Slideshot, Snapshot, Full Choke and a Range MW. No accurized though but it's still pretty close to perfect. Pick it up if you want a good kinetic shotgun for PvP

If Stasis legendary guns will be in the kinetic slot like Cryosthesia, I hope we get a Stasis fusion rifle next season

Please i just wanna use grav lance with a fusion rifle
