    Eververse is broken.

    Posted: 16 Oct 2019 09:40 PM PDT

"We have made deliberate choices related to cosmetic items and not having them come from gameplay. Gameplay rewards are where you get items, power, mods, perk combinations, stats, triumphs, and titles." -- Luke Smith

    Hey everyone,

Recently I made a few posts detailing items that will be made available through Eververse for both Silver and Bright Dust. Generally, I tend to be pretty neutral on how I feel about the store but I've been looking through some of the items a bit more and wanted to make a post that adds a little bit more to the store and how it operates.

    The Pattern

Inside the Bungie API you can view all the data about the game, and this includes Tess. Her stock, for some reason, is also included in this API. HERE is a screenshot of the first Silver slot. It is in order. So Week 1 sells a Finisher Bundle, Week 2 is Fireteam Fire Up, This week is Spring Showers, next week is Ninja Vanish, etc. Last season most slots were in order. THIS season items are jumbled up, so while some slots are still in order like this one others are a mess. If you've been following me on Twitter you can see that I can "predict" what the store will sell (more or less). I'm just reorganizing these slots around.

Because Tess's whole inventory is available to us we can build a list of ALL new items, then remove any items in the Bright Dust slots. This gives up two new lists: Silver Only and Bright Dust. You can double check all of this through data.destinysets.com in the Categories section for Tess. Unless Bungie changes the items we know what will sell and about when it will sell which gives us some incite into how Eververse works.

    Bright Dust Myth

I see a lot of comments about Eververse and how if you see an item you like for Silver then you can just wait until it rolls around for Bright Dust later in the Season. THIS IS NOT TRUE. The game doesn't work this way and hasn't even since Season 1. Tons of items never get sold for Bright Dust. In fact, Bungie's own Help Page mentions that you can use it to by a selection of items, not all items.

This page even mentions that "many items from a previous Seasonal Bright Engram will NOT be carried forward into the new Season's Eververse offerings and may not be available again." and these items are never communicated in game so for you as the player it could be any item. Better buy it now. This is known as the Fear of Missing Out or FOMO and it's used heavily within the store. By not telling the player what is limited, Bungie creates a mystic about all items being limited. And thanks to this rumor, you're more likely to miss out on items because you think they will roll around for Bright Dust later in the season. And when you do miss out on an item (like the Void Ghost Shell from last season) you won't want to miss out again which helps motivate you to buy the next item right away.

Bungie could easily fix this by: Telling the players which items are limited time and for how long, selling all items for Silver and Bright Dust at all times during a season, letting the players know which items are Silver only, or even making a guarantee publicly that ALL items will sell for Bright Dust some point during a season. All of these options would make the store better but they also remove FOMO from your buying decisions.

    Silver Only

A LARGE chunk of the new seasonal items are Silver Only items. This is a huge change from last season. You can see the difference HERE and HERE. This change is not communicated anywhere by Bungie so players from past seasons might assume the store will continue to work the way it use to with the items it offers.

All the remaining items that will sell for Dust (seen HERE) are instead sold during the first few weeks of the season for Silver.

Week 1 we see the Lander Shell and Blood Runner. Week 2 we see Fireteam Fire Up, Great White, Invasive Species, and Lunar Shell. Week 3 we see Refashioned Shapes. That's 7 of the 17 Bright Dust items selling for Silver. Next week Ninja Vanish, Jotuneer, and Ophiuchus Shell get added to that list.

Tons of people bought the Lunar Shell for Silver because it's got great perks and because they didn't know if it would come around again. Same with the other items listed. But the Dust versions come well after the 7 day return on an item (assuming you don't open it right away and use it). Lunar Shell is set up to go on sale 10/22 a full week past the return window if you bought it for Silver in Week 2. Almost all the Bright Dust items work like this!

I believe this adds to the myth stated above when you start to see items that sold for Silver at the beginning of the season come back around for Dust.

    Class Specifics

A new change this season is a "smart" store that will only display items that you can use. This means that if you log into the store on your Titan, you will only see Titan Ornaments. This change also propagates to Bright Dust. So during Week 2 when the new Boots where on sale you would only see the Boots for the current class you were on. This was never communicated as a change made to the store (that I could find) and it lead to a situation where tons of players assumed it worked the same was as last season and you could get armor items throughout the season one at a time.

I made a thread about it HERE and you can see there's a lot of comments about players who almost missed out on getting items they want because of this change. But don't worry, Bungie added a handy new "feature" to the store where you can buy Armor at a discount if you already own pieces of it. This, to me, reads as Bungie banking on lots of players missing the first few items, not knowing about the new changes, and buying the rest of the set near the end of the season. A clever little trick where you don't feel so bad spending money because you aren't paying FULL price.

    Week 3

In a recent TWAB, Cozmo wrote that "New Eververse items for Season of the Undying will become available for Bright Dust two weeks into the Season". We are currently on Week 3 and the store is no different that is has been in the two weeks prior. So what exactly does this comment mean?

Originally, I thought it would mean that there would be no new items in the Eververse store until Week 3. However, new items sold last week in the Bright Dust Tab. A lot of people thought this would mean that all new items would go on sale for Bright Dust but that doesn't seem to be the case. I can not find an option to buy any items for Bright Dust outside the Featured and Bright Dust tabs.

If we take a look at the last three weeks of the Featured Tab we can see something interesting:

The Bright Dust items on the Feature Tab were all old Eververse items for the first two weeks, and on the third week they shifted to all new items. I believe this is what the comment in the TWAB post meant by "New Eververse items for Season of the Undying will become available for Bright Dust two weeks into the Season". The wording is super vague on purpose so that it's still technically correct. But it's pretty scummy.

    Duplicates

Every week on Monday I've been going though the Bungie API and compiling what the next weeks Eververse store will be. You can see Week 3 HERE. I usually get pretty close, but this season the items have been jumbled up. Last season they were in order but that changed this time around. With that being said, I compiled the store for Week 4 and it doesn't look so great to me. You can see that HERE.

Assuming it's accurate, several items sell for Dust on both the Featured and Bright Dust tab. The Chitin Slate shader, the Shattered Shrieker Transmat Effect, and the Blood Runner Sparrow. Added to this we see the Jungle Viper shader again (it is on sale Week 3). With such a large portion of this seasons items locked behind Silver it's a real slap in the face to see multiple duplicates and repeat items week to week.

    Halloween

While digging around in the files I found some Armor Sets. These all link up to Bundles that are sold through Eververse. Finishers, Halloween 2018, an Unknown set, Season 3, Season 2, Season 1, and Season 8 armor sets. As you can see, the box image that comes before the sets is the icon for the Bundle, followed by a "highResIcon" of the Armor Set. I want to take a closer look at the Unknown set.

I reached out to some people in the know with the Hash values of some of the Classified bundles in the Bungie API to get more information. THIS is what I got back. These sets are known as Skeletal Sets and are the Halloween 2019 armor sets. Unlike the previous years unique armor, these are black reskins of old armor sets like Escalation Protocol and Revelry. The icons for the armor sets also exist in the game files, you can see that HERE.

This seems to be why all the armor in the game isn't a Universal Ornament. So Bungie can resell it to you.

    For Wei

All Eververse items have a property called "highResIcon" in the Bungie API. This is a link to an image that is used for an item when it is on sale for Silver in the Eververse store. The "For Wei" Ornament, the reward for hitting Season Rank 100, has one of these. You can see it HERE. This would imply that the Ornament either was going to be on sale at one point and shifted to a Seasonal reward OR it will sell for Silver at some point in the future and not be exclusive to the Season Pass.

This is also true of They Had Build and Let the Future Narrow. The Season of The Undying website lists these Ornaments as exclusives for Season Pass Owners and if that's the case there would be no need for these highResIcons.

    Don't Trust Dataminers

A worry of mine is that this kind of post is going to mean that Tess won't have this data attached to her in future Season, so knowing what is Silver only and what items you can get from Bright Dust will be impossible. Having said that, I feel that Eververse is way more scummy then it needs to be and if that does happen it kind of shows the path Bungie will travel.

DMG has posted that you should not trust datamining. While all the data here is available for you to go through and confirm yourself, there's still doubt on if any of this is true, since Bungie can just go in and change these items whenever they want to. It would be nice to hear from Bungie about Eververse. What items are Silver only? Which items are limited and won't return? The player base would always welcome transparency.

    TL;DR

Bungie is intentionally being vague about Eververse to get as much money out of you as possible.

Gonna get downvoted to hell for this but y'all are really over-valuing what a full vendor/world drop refresh actually means.

    Posted: 16 Oct 2019 10:21 AM PDT

To start, I'll get these out of the way:

    1. Do I ultimately think it would have been ideal if Shadowkeep had come with a full vendor refresh?

Yes. New things feel good. My lizard brain likes bigger numbers. It's fun to cycle through new stuff.

    2. Is it okay to criticize and/or be bummed by the lack of a vendor refresh?

Of course. I was certainly bummed by it when I started playing SK.

    3. Does Bungie need to get around to a full vendor refresh sooner than later?

I do think so. It definitely needs to happen this year.

    BUT WITH THAT SAID...

A lot of people here seem to be forgetting that full vendor/world refreshes come with a heaping helping of auto-shard filler trash. Datto put it in perspective in one of his recent videos (4:55) where he pointed out that a huge portion of new world drop loot is exciting exactly once. After that, it's literally always either infusion fuel or an auto-shard.

I understand being disappointed, but a lot of people here are really--like, unreasonably--infuriated that they have been deprived the joy of getting the next iteration of Does Not Compute/Cooked Fang LFR/Misfit/The Cut and Run/Anonymous Autumn/Trackless Waste/Ether Doctor/etc... Because that IS what a large new loot pool means: lots of mediocre stuff that you'll literally NEVER use outside of the initial power climb. A full vendor/world drop refresh will ALWAYS come with these insta-shard trash weapons. I actually had to open DIM to remember the names of most of those weapons I just listed, even though I've been getting them for a year now. They're that unremarkable.

It helps that I find a decent portion of the new moon/vex offensive/raid weapons to be interesting and viable. I don't have data to back this up but it feels like the new weapons have a much better ratio between "This is cool, I'm gonna keep using this," and "Eh, this'll be infusion fuel from now on."

Does my lizard brain care about this logic? Not really; it sort of just wants new shiny things even if they're filler trash. So trust me, I get why it's a bummer and again, I DO ultimately wish that we could have gotten a vendor refresh. I'm just sick of being called a Bungie shill or even "mentally ill" (someone actually said this) for pointing out that maybe, JUST maybe, a vendor/world refresh isn't 100% the glorious thing that a lot of people insist it is.

"Iron Banner’s first two days have been an intentional showcase of the newest Crucible maps in Destiny 2. Starting on Thursday, the rest of the week will feature a varying mix of both new and classic maps."

    Posted: 16 Oct 2019 02:40 PM PDT

Thank the Traveler. But seriously, playing normal pvp you only ever got these 3 maps anyway, so why did we have to waste two more days on them when they're all garbage compared to Javelin and Midtown?

For those unaware, older D2 players (I assume) knew no vendor reset, factions, trials and generally less content was coming... here’s why.

    Posted: 16 Oct 2019 08:55 AM PDT

    1. Bungie, and more importantly, Luke Smith, stated that this past season was hard on the team. So what does this mean? The pace in which content erupted from the studio is going to slow down. But this is a good thing. It means that actual human beings are taking care of their mental wellbeing, and focusing on quality over quantity.

    2. Bungie in D2Y1 played around a lot with factions. It usually was never the same, and frankly as a raider, I was never interested in them. They stated they took them out along with trials due to looking at building a better experience around them. I have full faith that when they return, they will be amazing and we will gawk in awe at how good it is.

    3. You could literally have nothing to do right now. Welcome to D2Y1. After literally 1 week of the game, I was done with it. But now, not only do I have stuff to do, I ENJOY doing that stuff. We have titles to pursue, triumphs to be done, nightmares to hunt, raids to do, iron banners to be completed, memories to unlock, offences to be won, mods to seek out, builds to min/max, people to Sherpa, nightfalls to be completed, speed runs to be challenged.

    4. Now, I'm not saying a lack of loot is a good thing. But if you had to pick between a new raid, patrol zone, dungeon, exotic quest(s), matchmade activity, or a bunch of new guns with the same activities from year 2 to play them in... which would you choose

tl;dr: I have an unpopular opinion.

EDIT: Thanks for the discussion, silver and gold. I would like to clarify the point of older D2 players in the title. It is my speculation/opinion about our assumption that content would be the way it is. There is perfectly logical reasons why older D2 players could expect new content at the same pace as before. I do not speak for all older D2 players.

Best of year 1 engrams were nice. You would get 3 of them quickly per week per character because of the xp boost, they dropped 3 items usually from a more exciting pool imho that you could dismantle for dust if you didn't like them. Nostalgic engrams are too few and far between ( at least while you are under lvl 100, where other rewards replace them at certain places, currently r40 myself). They only drop 2 items, and the pool is diluted with ghost projections that are not really exciting. You cannot dismantle the items for dust anymore, although the bright dust economy feels better( getting 200 per weekly bounty per character can get you a nice chunk of dust per week if you play all 3 characters) They are also tied to the season pass, so you cannot farm them on multiple characters.

I guess my gripe is that they went from this cool reward that i was always excited to get to this thing i barely get and it feels that my cosmetic collection became ten times slower to accuire.

I don't know what would be a good middle ground, maybe make them more frequent, like every 3 ranks guaranteed, have guaranteed duplicate protection if you want to keep the current 2 item drop rule. Making them redeemable on all characters would be too much.

Maybe extending the bright dust weekly selection would help, put one ship, sparrow and shell from y1 and 2 on sale at Tess.

What do you guys feel about nostalgic engrams?

Edit: i should have mentioned that i am relatively new player ( started in season of opulence) so i didn't have any cosmetics and that is why the Best of Y1 engrams felt good to me. Nostalgic should feel too since i am still missing a lot of stuff, but they don't really. Also wow, thanks for the gold fellow Guardian, may you get an exotic sparrow in your next engram.

Eververse is ruining the LOOT shooter experience, i wanted to farm that sparrow in the raid, not buying it from eververse...

DO NOT PAY TO GET TO LEVEL 900!!!

    Posted: 16 Oct 2019 06:45 AM PDT

Just found out that there is a way to pay $20 to get your secondary characters to light level 900, here's the link:

    https://www.pcgamer.com/you-can-now-boost-destiny-2-characters-to-power-level-900-for-dollar20/

    DO NOT DO THIS!

There is a much easier and free way to do this! If you have a character already leveled past 900 (which is super easy to grind for) then on your secondary characters, equip your highest weapons you can, then go into your collections, and keep reacquiring the "Leveling" gear (doesn't matter which one just pick one) until you need to get every piece of the set to bump you higher level. And BAM! there you go. You will have caught your secondary characters up to the first character by doing nothing.

Also if you want to get even higher, spend your crucible/vanguard tokens; each day either Shaxx, Zavala, or Banshee will be giving out legendary engrams at your base light level to round out your gear.

EDIT: As some of you have said a reminded me, it's also a good idea to hold off on claiming any of the season gear until it helps you, seeing that the season gear levels with your character.

EDIT 2: Thank you to those of you who enlightened me, apparently the game looks at every character and inventory (aside from the Postmaster) to determine your highest level. I was unaware of this change. Thanks!

EDIT 3: Thanks for the gold and silver! You guys are awesome! See you all starside!

Resetting a max rank in infamy, glory or valor should give a pinnacle engram.

    Posted: 16 Oct 2019 04:32 PM PDT

doing a full rank to reset and only getting a sword 950 is quite disappointing not gonna lie.

ok maybe not valor cause you can farm that shit pretty easily but still.

I know many people dislike reusing old content, but the Risk Runner quest had me itching for the Cosmodrome to be updated like the Moon.

    Posted: 16 Oct 2019 10:06 AM PDT

It looks so good, especially on PC. And it was cool how they made it look like late Spring/early Summer there. It still looks bleak, but not quite as much as D1 when there was some snow on the ground, or a complete snow cover like in Rise of Iron.

I didn't want to leave that mission. I wanted to keep exploring the familiar spaces. I wanted to head over to the Mothyard and see the airplane wreckage. I wanted to go to the Forgotten Shore and see what had changed.

I hope at some point we get to go back. I'm really enjoying the new Moon, and it really feels huge now with all the different paths underneath the surface, and the huge lost sectors. Giving the original D1 planet that we play through this kind of treatment would be totally welcomed by me.

Your first Mod 2.0 Masterwork should be your class item.

    Posted: 16 Oct 2019 04:49 PM PDT

    TL;DR at bottom

The season pass has three Ascendant Shard drops near the end, enough to finish masterworking 3 armor pieces, so some of you may be wondering which slot to MW first.

First, what does full MW actually give? It gives you +2 to all 6 stats, and 10 mod energy to work with, allowing you to fit more mods on.

You could masterwork your legs, but you (probably) don't have a 60 stat total legs yet, so you want to wait until you get better legs before investing your precious shards into it.

You could Masterwork your chest, since you have a 60 total chest, but most of those 60 stats are in str/resilience, which don't really fit your playstyle. Maybe you'll get a 60 total with Int/Dis/Regen? Best to wait on Masterworking your chest till then...

Introducing Class Items! They always roll with 0 in each stat, so you don't need to worry about getting a perfect int/dis 60 stat roll, as that isn't even possible. They do get the +2 to each stat from masterworking, but those +2 stats aren't actually shown on the item but they do count towards your total stats/tiers.

The only "rolls" you have to consider when choosing a Class Item to MW is element (which decided what mods you can put on) and Seasonal mod slot (Outlaw, Opulence, Undying, etc.)

Personally I plan on going with a Solar Outlaw roll for my Class Item, as solar gives instant health on orb, super on grenade kill, and taken/fallen armament mods which will probably be useful in future expansions.

TL;DR: Class items always have a perfect stat roll of 0, so you'll never get a better one to Masterwork, unlike helms/gloves/chests/boots which you might not have perfect rolls for yet.

No Guns: Garden of Salvation final boss (Sanctified Mind, Sol Inherent)

    Posted: 16 Oct 2019 08:44 PM PDT

    Link: https://youtu.be/ACHDIySOwxs

    How we pulled it off:

    • The 5 warlocks used Aeon Soul most of the encounter to generate a ridiculous number of grenades during the fight, along with mods that gave nade energy when a class ability is used. We also stacked multiple relay defender mods to increase the damage to the boss with our supers (which makes a HUGE difference), but before DPS we switched to Geomag Stabilizers to make Chaos Reach last longer. Also, you can punch/throw a nade at the boxes to start the tether.
    • I was the hunter, and my build really isn't anything special for this, just high discipline, void debuff grenades for DPS and tether. We prioritized using grenades for Cyclopes and weak points on the boss.

    • We're going to submit this for Movie of The Week and we are **praying** that this is our moment!

Miss the tips and tricks people used to give, now it's just complaining about what we don't have.

    Posted: 16 Oct 2019 05:51 AM PDT

As a returning D1 player, I used to use this subreddit a lot. People used to give out great tips and tricks, I mean remember the loot cave(RIP), trying to figure out the hidden chests in the maze in VoG, best builds, and how to cheese Aetheon. The list goes on and on, and it was actually fun to get on here and see new things daily about ways to cheese the game, ease of life items, etc..

Now it's just constant complaining about how "I want this, and I need that".

I truly feel like if you don't have anything constructive to say, just don't make a post. Ideas like the apartment idea the other day was super creative, and those things are fine, but shit like nerf recluse, it beat me in the crucible because I can't aim an auto rifle is just toxic.

Technically speaking, this post is a shit post, and yes I know this, but I know there are a lot of older players that will agree with this.

    Thanks for reading.

EDIT: Thanks to all for the mostly positive discussion on this, I know we all love this game and gaming in general. Sometimes we just need to remember that it's just a game!

Also, thank you kind redditor for platinum and silver, much appreciated!

EDIT 2: removed GT as I didn't know that was a violation on this subreddit I suppose. Also, for those saying enjoy the karma train, if you even look at my profile you can see I have been on reddit for nearly 9 years and barely have 2k karma, and truly didn't think this post would even get a comment to be honest. That is not the point of this post at all. I love this game as much as the rest of you, and I would like everyone to enjoy it as much as I do. I am by no means trying to say that everything is perfect, but it's a pretty fun game that I, and a lot of others enjoy, and if any of you work in any kind of service industry, the saying "the customer is always right" is complete b.s, and you can't make everyone happy.

FINAL EDIT BY ME: I appreciate everyone who took the time to read this, give feedback both good and bad. I truly enjoy a good discussion/debate and a lot of you made valid points. I hope for all our sakes they correct some issues and come out with additional loots, but I can say that I truly feel as a returning player that I got my money's worth. There was no loot and an okay story in halo 2 and 3, but I know a lot of you put 1000's of matches in and enjoyed every bit of it even if it was the same content over and over!

See you guys in game and I can't wait to see what Bungo has to offer!

Gotta admit, I’m impressed. The Eververse engrams are SOMEHOW WORSE than last season’s.

    Posted: 16 Oct 2019 10:31 AM PDT

Last season we got multiple engrams per week depending on play. Granted, it was year 1 items (which kind of screwed over veteran players) but we still got a steady stream of engrams.

With this season, we only get a few engrams before rank 100 on the season pass - which, by the way, is ironic considering that the year 2 engrams are pretty much only for new players, and most of them won't reach 100 - and it will take a TON of xp to get engrams after that, every 5 levels I believe.

I understand the need for micro transactions now more than ever, but this has almost completely removed the eververse from the normal gameplay loop.

After all those improvements we are almost back to the "Kill Eververse" era we had in Y1.

    Posted: 16 Oct 2019 09:53 AM PDT

Remember when Eververse had all the cosmetics in-game and there weren't any cosmetics tied to activities? Remember when Eververse had a full seasonal reset and some vendors only had some new ornaments?

Bungie fixed things with Forsaken when they did full reset to the vendors and added old weapons with random rolls as well.

Bungie also , for some reason, decided that its a bad idea to reset the vendors with Shadowkeep after a whole year, but a good idea to fully reset Eververse. Don't get me wrong, destiny is now free to play so they will need more money that can be made only through MTX and DLCs but they really have to reset vendors at least once a year. And now the worst part.. Luke Smith said that they will put most of the cosmetics in Eververse store but there will still be earnable cosmetics through some activities and there indeed are.. 3 legendary reskinned cosmetics earnable through some moon activities and about 2-3 more from other activities. That's all. Every good exotic cosmetic is bought through eververse. Where are the raid exotic sparrow or ghost or ship? Destiny 1 used to have at least one Raid cosmetic. Big Destiny 2 raids had cosmetics as well but GoS has nothing.

Bungie please... Don't let the eververse war start again. Start putting more earnable cosmetics that are NOT reskins and are unique enough to want to get them. Also, small note.. why the heck would you put reskinned armor in the raid? That's such a let down.. they have never done it again and was a big disappointment.

Tl;dr Bungie slowly starting the eververse war that already happened once in Y1(and it was reallyyy bad) and they should really do something before this subreddit starts getting toxic and wishing for bad stuff to the devs.

Hunter Bottom Tree + Anarchy might be the highest DPS in the game

    Posted: 16 Oct 2019 09:51 PM PDT

After spending pretty much two years never equipping bottom tree tether, come Shadowkeep I can't get enough of it. After being told that it wasn't worth it to run during the Sanctified Mind fight, I tried to find some numbers on it. I couldn't find any so I did it myself, and if I did the calculations correctly... well it's fucking good.

How the Mobius Quiver works is any tether that directly connects after an enemy is tethered does greatly increased damage (5x). If you fire the the tethers as fast as possible, the second shot will connect before the bonus damage is applied. However, while you're in the super you're still able to fire weapons, in this case, Anarchy. After firing off 2 quick Anarchy shots you still have time to shoot 6 additional tethers, all getting 5x damage. This whole process takes 12 seconds (I timed using my phone, it was probably closer to 11.3).

So for damage you're getting (Tested in Cargo Bay 3)

    10,283 (initial tether hit) + 51,413*6 = 318,761 Damage from tether alone

In a very conservative time frame of 12 seconds (actually 8, see edit) this equals 26,563 DPS. 39,845 DPS

In comparison, Wendigo with infinite orbs of light is 20,560! Izanagi's with catalyst is 19,474!

But we're not done yet.. Anarchy does 8,744 DPS... but it will be buffed by 30% due to the tether for a 11,367 additional damage per second.

This gives a total DPS of 37,930 51,212! Plus, you're debuffing the target for your whole team and only using 2 ammo.

With how good this seems, I'm worried I miscalculated something. Again the tether numbers came from good old Greg the ogre, and everything else was from the DPS spreadsheet.

I'd be interested if someone can confirm or refute this, and maybe try firing different weapons in between tether shots such as alternating tether and Wendigo. I also had Orpheus Rigs on and I'm not sure if that impacted the number of shots I was able to fire.

Edit: I went back and checked the recording and noticed a mistake. I counted how many shots and the damage they did without rigs, but timed them with Orpheus rigs. Without rigs it takes 8 seconds to shoot 7 shots for a DPS of 39,845 + 11,367 = 51,212. I didn't record me shooting with the rigs so I'm not sure how many additional shots, but I'd guess two which would further increase the damage output.

One final note, I don't know how much damage Nighthawk does on 2x crit bosses in Shadowkeep, but I estimate that Nighthawk and Izanagi's will outdamage mobius quiver on 2x crit bosses but lose out on the rest. However, usually someone is running tether for the debuff anyway, so switching to bottom tree in that case might be better. Top tree tether doesn't last very long on a single target so we would need to compare the uptime of the debuff. In addition the From The Depths mod would increase tether damage by 30% if it could be reliably proced.

I'd also want to look into if the tether damage is boosted shooting an already tethered boss then, with Orpheus rigs giving 9 buffed shots, and the From The Depths Artifact mod giving I think a 30% increase, + anarchy... that's a hypothetical dps of 61.5k, which would probably beat our celestial.

Also bottom tree has great synergy with the oppressive darkness mod, with long lasting Andes.

Breakneck is not functioning properly; damage values and suggestions included

    Posted: 15 Oct 2019 11:59 PM PDT

TL;DR: Breakneck is significantly inferior to other legendary options. Part of this problem is inherent to its frame. Currently, it will deal less DPS than Adaptive frame and Rapid-fire frame Auto Rifles at almost every point during usage. It is inferior to both at 3 stacks of Rampage.

    Part One: Precision Frame

Part of Breakneck's issue starts with its frame. The Precision archetype is currently under-performing in raw DPS, being roughly 15% less DPS than the Adaptive frame archetype in PvE. A buff of about 8% base damage would reduce that difference by about half, leaving the base damage of Precision weapons a little less to make up for ease of use, controllable recoil, and better range than Adaptive and Rapid-fire weapons. That difference in weapon performance can equate to more precision hits, and I think it's fine to assume that Precision frames will remain mathematically inferior within damage fall-off range to make up for its other positive qualities. I simply think that the damage difference needs to be reduced partially.

For the sake of my final argument, I would say a base damage buff of about 8.2% to Precision frame Auto Rifles would be appropriate. I'm sorta flying by the seat of my pants with this exact number, but for the sake of more complicated damage numbers later on, I'll take it and run.

Part Two: Rampage and Onslaught Interaction

To simplify, any time I refer to "stacks," I am referring to stacks of Rampage on whatever weapon is in question.

In addition to the weakness of the Precision frame, Onslaught and Rampage act against each other. In order to explain this issue, I will explain in more detail how Onslaught, Breakneck's pinnacle perk, works. Onslaught essentially changes Breakneck's firing speed to different archetypes depending on the number of stacks. Here are the firing-speed values per stack.

    Table 1.

    Stack # RPM
    0 450
    1 600
    2 600
    3 720

Breakneck currently deals less and less damage as stacks increase. I do not know if this is an effect somehow of Onslaught, or if Breakneck has a modified version of Rampage with negative damage values. I would assume the latter, and will make my suggestion assuming this is true, though the end-result will remain the same otherwise.

    Table 2.

    Weapon 0 stacks 1 stack 2 stacks 3 stacks
    Breakneck 2460 3250 3170 3660
    Precision 2460 2708 2978 3270
    Adaptive 2840 3130 3440 3780
    Rapid-fire 2898 3188 3503 3856

(Damage values displayed as red-bar DPS, measured at Greg. Breakneck, Origin Story (Y1), Ether Doctor, and Valakadyn were used for tests. Valakadyn's damage has been increased to simulate the inherent damage boost of Kinetic weapons.)

As you can plainly see, Breakneck lags behind Adaptive and Rapid-fire frame weapons at nearly every turn, dealing less damage at every stack level, except for 1 stack. I believe this is a mistake somehow, and I think the evidence of this mistake is the fact that Breakneck deals less DPS at 2 stacks than at 1.

Clearly, something is not working right.

Here are my current assumptions, which lead to my suggestions on the next table:

    1. Precision frame Auto Rifles will get an 8.2% damage buff
    2. Breakneck has a modified version of Rampage (call it Brampage) that decreases its damage as stacks increase.

    Table 3.

Stack # Brampage % change (current) Brampage % change (suggested)
    1 -1 -9.9
    2 -3.5 +2.8
    3 -7.5 -4.2

I'm suggesting, after a Precision frame buff, that there be a larger decrease in damage during the first stack, and have that transform into a small buff, then back into a damage reduction for the 720 rpm damage state. Here's what the final DPS values would look like, assuming this % damage change, as well as an 8.2% increase in Precision-frame base damage.

    Table 4.

    Weapon 0 stacks 1 stack 2 stacks 3 stacks
    Breakneck 2663 3300 3650 4080
    Precision 2663 2928 3222 3541
    Adaptive 2840 3130 3440 3780
    Rapid-fire 2898 3188 3503 3856

Here's what these changes would do:

    1. Precision frame Auto Rifles would have their damage increased to compete better with other archetypes' DPS.
    2. Breakneck would have its weapon "feeling" unchanged, but would be marginally better than typical Auto Rifles, as expected of a Pinnacle weapon with two damage-related perks.
    3. Breakneck would no longer experience a damage "lag" between stacks 1 and 3. DPS would increase as more stacks are gained, as (I think) is intended.

    Thanks for reading!

PS, I know I missed High-Impact frame, but it's too late tonight to expand my spreadsheet or this post. If anyone reads this and is interested, I can probably add it into the fray tomorrow for comparison.

Edit: Fixed table numbers for clarity.
