Hey Bungie? Can you bring back the random announcements from the Tower PA system?

    Posted: 07 Oct 2019 03:01 PM PDT

"Fireteam Bouley, This is Ikora Rey, Do not leave the voice on the Comms."

"Will Fireteam.... (sigh) Will Fireteam 'The Bad Guys don't care what we call ourselves' please report to the Vanguard immediately."

"This is Ikora Rey. The South Tower is off limits because we are still cleaning up last night's... event."

Just to list a few of the announcements made. Think of the all the new one's that can be broadcasted.

Saw something weird on the moon again...

    Posted: 07 Oct 2019 06:59 AM PDT

I haven't seen this bug in years. I thought they worked it all out of D2, but maybe something weird with old moon code brought it back? Anyone known anything about this?

edit: Just wanted to say thank you guys for receiving the video so well! We are all thrilled that people are enjoying it! Also please stop giving me gold and platinum cause I don't know what to do with it, and I don't want you wasting your money!

3 Manning The Entire Garden of Salvation Raid

This was really cool to figure out and complete. Huge shouts to my partners Chevy and Modern for the theory crafting and the run.

A few key points from each section:

    Evade The Consecrated Mind

I was able to pick up multiple charges by blocking with a Sentinel Shield. Once you have two picked up, you can pick up however many you want until the timer runs out; then you must block with the shield again.

    Summoning The Consecrated Mind

This involved two players (Modern and Chevy) circling around and activating two Relays while I held down two areas. Then I joined to help Modern activate the fourth and final Relay, opening all portals. Then we just hopped between portals, refreshing our Enlightenment a few seconds before each enemy wave.

    Consecrated Mind

This just involved us slamming all 30 orbs before a fourth person was needed to pick up the Voltaic Overflow. Worldline Zero sword skates, clearing quickly, and soloing the "eyes."

    Sanctified Mind

We started by sending one player into each portal; then we brought one player back out to plant. After this, every time we pulled a player out, the other player would rotate with him until both Relays contained 30 orbs. For DPS, we stacked up next to the unused Relay with the "Relay Defender" mod for extra damage (extra damage when close to an active Vex Relay).

    Weapons I used throughout:

    Mountaintop

Long Shadow with Triple Tap/Rapid Hit

    Recluse

    21% Delirium

    Whisper of the Worm

Izanagi's Burden was used by the other two members; I did not have the catalyst.

    Enjoy!

The season pass exotic engrams should’ve been 100% duplicate protected

    Posted: 07 Oct 2019 09:54 AM PDT

Nothing worse than getting to rank 25, getting your first exotic of the season and it turns out to be a fighting lion. I mean comeon.

Would've given us something in that season pass to look forward to, because a random exotic really doesn't get me excited because it's 99% going to be a dupe.

The Vex invasion event on the Moon looks incredible

That's it. It just looks amazing when the event starts and forms over the sky; Vex dropping down and Guardians rushing to slay them. Really awesome Bungie!

ARMOR MODS 2.0 HANDY MINI SPREADSHEET

    Posted: 07 Oct 2019 06:03 AM PDT

Okay, if you don't already know, you can't just put any mods into any piece of armor. They are now not only divided by the corresponding piece of armor but also into elemental groups. And that's quite a pickle.

I've seen the insane post outlining every possible mod and their energy costs for different armor items and their elements in one freaking image. Honestly, great job and thank you, Guardian! Without your work, I don't think I would've put together this post so soon. It's good for science and grand build-crafting. But for day-to-day use it's just too much, you can't just casually open this on your phone and remind yourself what's where.

I've wanted to come up with something a little bit more usable, so here's a handy mini spreadsheet with almost anything you might need while perfecting your monster killing machine. Something that could help you find what you need and where to look for it with just a glance.

Better use the image, just save it to your phone or whatever:

    https://imgur.com/a/i1GFbLu

BASE MODS 2.0 HANDY MINI SPREADSHEET

    ARC SOLAR VOID
    Pulse SMG Hand Cannon
    Machine Gun Auto Sniper
    Shotgun Rocket Grenade Launcher
    Sword Fusion Scout
    Bow Linear Fusion Sidearm

Armor Piece Mod Type Mod Type
    HELMET Ammo Finder Targeting
ARMS Reload Melee & Grenade Cooldowns
    CHEST Reserves Unflinching
    LEGS Scavenger Dexterity
    CLASS ITEM Ability Cooldowns Finishers

    HOW TO USE

Pretty easy, just cross-reference what you want within those tables. The first table works vertically, the second one works horizontally.

Example: Say you wanna put a rocket launcher reloader and a scavenger into your build.

    1. Find Rocket in the first table and then go up from there to an element
    2. Okay, we need SOLAR armor
    3. Find Scavenger and Reload in the second table and then go left to armor pieces
    4. Alright then, it's SOLAR ARMS & SOLAR LEGS

Of course, you should discover the mods beforehand in the game.

P.S. It only works with base mods, I don't think there is an easy way to insert seasonal mods into these tables. There are also some problems with finding logic dividing cooldowns of abilities by elements, so for them you are going to need some other help. Also huge thanks to u/milkpack for the images, there are two versions: dark and light.

    TL;DR

To understand what piece and element of armor you need to put specific mods into, use these two tables.Find a weapon in the first table and go up -- that's the elemental type of armor for mods affecting the weapon.Find a mod type in the second table and go left -- that's the armor piece you need for the specific enhancement.

Edit: that's way too fast for gold but thanks, anon

Stop downvoting new players who don’t have the extensive knowledge that you do.

    Posted: 07 Oct 2019 02:57 AM PDT

If a player doesn't know that a raid is a 6 man activity with no matchmaking, there's no reason to make them feel stupid. All you're doing is pushing away new players when the most amount of new players in the games history are beginning to flood in. You're giving the game a bad image. Whoever you are, just stop it mate. This shouldn't even have to be said.

Your Anti-Barrier rounds can penetrate knight shields, hobogoblin's immunity and hydras' barriers!

    Posted: 07 Oct 2019 09:16 AM PDT

title! it's an amazing mod and it's not exclusively useful to just barrier champions. channel your inner blueberry and shoot everything

EDIT: also works on phalanxes! courtesy of u/Hansolo312

EDIT 2: it seems to work on most things like taken vandal bubbles, argos' shield, brakion's barrier and so on, what it doesn't work on is taken phalanxes and taken goblin barriers unfortunately.

TFW...Vex invasions all over the system from multiple timelines yet we don't even consider calling Osiris..

    Posted: 07 Oct 2019 06:11 AM PDT

I kid in the title, but it seriously blows me away how we have so many intricate and interesting characters that we abandon every season...

Rasputin online from warmind, literally promises to watch over and protect again... misses the building of an actual fortress on the moon next door... Osiris, an expert on vex and their entire shenanigans? not aware of the black garden threat or vex invasions... ASher Mir, an expert on vex also never contacted or mentioned..

I wish we would get an expansion or season where the storyline interacts with people already in the story and flesh them out some...

[Spoiler] The Darkness comes from the Light - And I believe it seeks the Traveler because the Song of Death is incomplete, and once it is, the Darkness can provide Salvation.

    Posted: 07 Oct 2019 02:51 PM PDT

This is in two parts that meet at the end.

    Part 1

In the lore entry IX.I: The Unmaking there is a sentence in the section Song of Death:

"She, whose name has been stricken, had found notes hidden in the frequencies."

The Darkness was created from the Light, the Light was "Reversed and mirrored in pitch,". But She only found notes, not a complete song before she was captured. Sidenote here, we don't know what happened to the Traveller or the Stricken after that but the lore entry does mention both the Ammonites and the Hive as worshippers of the Traveler, my guess is that this isn't the Hive as now but the 'proto-Hive' of the Helium Court.

    Back on topic.

Shape plays an important role in Destiny. It can be boiled down to: Light is rounded, Darkness is pointy. This is most apparent in the Traveler and the Pyramid Ships but it also appears in the Hive.

Because the Darkness comes from the Light where would Hive magic ultimately come from? Hive magic is round. Taken orbs are round, Eris' 'energy' around her ahamkara bone is round, Crota's Oversoul is round. The only sharp thing that the Hive wield is the Logic of the Sword.

Hive magic comes from the Darkness, and the Darkness from the light.

So now why do the Hive pursue the Traveler, it's not just to destroy it, it's to consume it. The Grimoire card XVIII: Leviathan Rises has this last sentence:

"Once the way is open, we'll show you how to eat the Traveler."

Why would you eat the Traveler? To finish the Song. So that the Darkness is the final shape. They want the final shape to be sharp, not rounded.

    Part 2

"Life remained beyond their grasp, while they remained ever in death's." - IX.I: The Unmaking

The Traveler either can't or won't make you immortal. It will uplift you, grant you knowledge, longevity, and help your civilisation grow, but in the end, you must pass on. It's there to help and guide.

The Darkness is a pathway to immortality but it is incomplete, through their magic the Hive managed to create some form of 'proto-immortality' with the Oversouls. But the Ascendant realm is a physical place that can be traversed as we saw with Mara. So even then immortality is not guaranteed because someone can always find your throne and destroy it.

    Part 1 + 2

The Hive cannot achieve immortality because the Darkness is incomplete. It comes from the Light but they do not have the entire Song.

Again in IX.I: The Unmaking there is the text:

"Yet, those who embraced the Song were merely instruments and nothing more . . . Those of the Choir had given all of themselves. All was not enough."

When the Stricken sang the Song of Death she achieved Salvation. She was free from the Choir she was no longer an instrument. The Darkness regards the Light as slavery or chattel. You give everything to it for nothing in return, you give it your all only to die in the end. For the Traveler and the Light to abandon you.

The Darkness is coming for the Traveler so they can finish their Song. So that everyone can achieve Salvation.

So that's my theory about the Darkness and the Light. Have a great day.

Submachineguns, Perks, and you (or: why Recluse is not that much of an outlier)

    Posted: 07 Oct 2019 07:35 AM PDT

This is gonna be a doozy. I meant to get up to go to the gym with my roommate today before class but he 'hurt his elbow' and can't go, so I was up at 6:15 in the morning testing digital submachineguns in a video game. Yep.

    SMG Archetypes: The basics

There are four SMG archetypes in Destiny 2, Precision, Aggressive, Adaptive, and Lightweight, They have rates of fire of 600, 750, 900, and 900 rounds per minute respectively. Additionally, SMGs can come in plain vanilla kinetic, or your favorite elemental flavor as an energy weapon. Energy weapons take a 5% direct damage hit compared to their kinetic bretheren.

    Testing methods:

I loaded into the first Shadowkeep mission with my Exit Strategy, Pillager, and Recluse to double check the buffs that Surrounded(with a Surrounded Spec mod equipped) Kill Clip, and Master of Arms grant to both body and headshots. Rampage was not included because it's damage buff with 3 stacks is the same as Kill Clip's (33%) The damage numbers cannot be compared across weapons since they were different Light Levels and my Light Level varied during this specific test. The goal here was strictly to get the hard numbers on the buffs. All damage numbers were taken from redbar Acolytes and Thrall (who take the same damage, I checked) at point blank range. The perk damage buffs, by percentage, are below, and the more intensive calculations and exact damage used for them are at the very bottom in my master spreadsheet on google.

Perk % Headshot Buff % Bodyshot Buff
    Surrounded + Spec 40% 40%
    Kill Clip 33% 33%
    Master of Arms 21% 98%

After I got the hard numbers for how much each buff provides, to both body and headshots, I started the real work. To allow for direct comparison across archetypes, I reclaimed a lot of weapons from collections, since they all come out at the same LL. All of these weapons were at 908 themselves, while I was at 928. These are just to compare across archetypes and are stand-ins for weapons you may actually use. These were all Legendaries with the exception of the Aggressive Frame Kinetic sample, I had to use Huckleberry since I didn't have a way to get a Hard Truths up to 908. This shouldn't have influenced the numbers, though. This includes a lot of theorycrafting only data, like if a Precision Frame had Master of Arms, which is dumb because only Recluse has that, but the goal here is complete comparison.

The DATA: (sorry its just a huge table I hope Reddit will allow it)

Weapon Element? Archetype Weapon LL My LL Buff Name Buff Multiplier (Head) Buff Multiplier (Body) Actual Head DPShot Actual Body DPShot RPM Shots Per Second Unbuffed Head DPS Unbuffed Body DPS Buffed Head DPShot Buffed Body DPShot Buffed Head DPS Buffed Body DPS Average DPS Good Average DPS

If that webapp CSV to Markdown converter doesn't work or get formatting perfect I'm fucked and just already looks weird so if the table isn't here, you'll have to take my word for the data unless you wanna go fact check me on my master sheet at the bottom. Anyway, that's the data for every archetype, kinetic/energy, with no buff, or any of the 3 buffs I've listed above. Just pretend 3x Rampage and Swashbuckler would be the same as Kill Clip. I did not have a Multikillclip SMG on hand, but 3x Multikillclip is a 50% buff as opposed to Kill Clip's 33% based off of u/Soleceon 's post here

    Analysis

    • Optimal (Headshot) DPS:

For those of you playing at home and looking at the table instead of just listening to me (good choice because I probably screwed something up) I'm looking into headshot DPS first since it is the upper limit of this weapon class, although hitting headshots 100% of the time isn't too feasible. Sorting by unbuffed DPS gives us insight into the disparities between archetypes. The trend is Aggressive > Lightweight (barely) > Adaptive > Precision. HOWEVER I think Adaptive is bugged. Adaptive SMGs in game have a higher impact stat as Lightweight (20 vs 15 impact respectively) but they do less damage? I think Adaptive were originally designed to do more damage than Lightweight, because Lightweight guns get buffs to Mobility and Handling, while Adaptive get nothing, so they would do more damage to compensate. I think at some point Bungie overbuffed Lightweight past Adaptive, and I would like to bring this to their attention, if you would please, u/DeeJ_BNG and u/Cozmo23

Moving on. If you sort by buffed DPS, you may notice something: Multikillclip with its max buff wipes the floor. That requires 3 kills and a reload though, so behind that is Surrounded + Surrounded Spec, followed by Kill CLip (and 3x Rampage) and then in last is... Master of Arms? What gives?

    • Minimum (Bodyshot) DPS:

This is where Master of Arms shines. While it is the lowest Headshot damage buff that I tested (only High Impact Reserves is a lower buff but that is not part of this analysis (HIR is like an 8.5% buff tho)) it makes bodyshots do headshot damage for the Recluse, which equates to a 98% bodyshot buff. For all archetypes, I made Master of Arms equal a 98% bodyshot buff instead of making bodyshots do the respective headshot damage, but even if this teeny step is erroneous, it's my analysis, and Master of Arms will only ever be on the Recluse, so this is all hypotheticals and unicorns right now.
Anyway, if all you are hitting is bodyshots, Master of Arms is the best bet, and I think the reason it is so good is that it really brings up the power floor (worst case scenario) for SMGs

    • Average (50head/50body) DPS:

If you hit 50% headshots and 50% bodyshots, Master of Arms and 3x Multikillclip are VERY close at the top, with Surrounded + Surrounded spec being about 10% behind them, and Kill Clip being about 15% behind them. This is a more realistic scenario, but honestly, I can't let my ego get too deflated. I think I hit at least 75% headshots in PvE with SMGs so what about...

    • Good Average (75head/25body):

I think this is the best representation of what average PvE play looks like. With 75% headshots, Multikillclip pulls ahead about 7% of Surrounded + Spec, 11% ahead of Master of Arms, and 13% ahead of Kill Clip. This proves that the higher your headshot percentage, the less you benefit from Master of Arms.

    Discussion:
So, the highest raw DPS weapons are things like an Aggressive Frame with Multikillclip. But these don't exist, the only 750RPM Legendary SMGs are the Hard Truths and the Ikelos SMG. So here is a list in descending order of ideal DPS (based on the 75/25 head/body split) on weapons that can actually exist:

    1. Subjunctive with Multikillclip
    2. Hard Truths with Kill Clip
    3. Calus Mini-Tool with Surrounded + Spec
    4. Pillager with Kill Clip
    5. Bug Out Bag with Multikillclip
    6. Exit Strategy with Surrounded + Spec
    7. Recluse with Master of Arms
    8. Breath of the Dragon with Kill Clip
    9. Trackless Waste with Kill Clip
    10. The Hero's Burden with Kill Clip

HOWEVER half of why Recluse is so good is because it has Feeding Frenzy. So let me remove anything that doesn't have a reload perk to pair with its respective damage buff. (I am counting Feeding Frenzy, Outlaw, Threat Detector, Drop Mag, and Field Prep, although the prior three are more valuable IMO)

    1. Subjunctive with Multikillclip and Threat Detector OR Outlaw
    2. Hard Truths with Kill Clip and Field Prep
    3. Calus Mini Tool with Surrounded + Spec and Threat Detector
    4. Pillager with Kill Clip and Outlaw
    5. Bug Out Bag with Multikillclip and Threat Detector or Drop Mag
    6. Exit Strategy with Surrounded + Spec and Threat Detector
    7. Recluse with Master of Arms and Feeding Frenzy
    8. Breath of the Dragon with Kill Clip and Outlaw
    9. Trackless Waste with Kill Clip and Threat Detector

Ok so just the Hero's Burden didn't make it. You can also disregard Hard Truths if you want since Field Prep, even though its great for loading, say, Snipers, just isn't as usable on something as mobile as an SMG. Now, one of these isn't notably better than some of the others. Multikillclip is better for large groups, but Kill Clip and Master of Arms pop off after one kill, and Surrounded requires being near enemies. Feeding Frenzy always works, while Outlaw requires headshot kills, Threat Detector only works near enemies (even though I think they buffed it, it's quite fast now) and Drop Mag can only roll on Bug Out Bag.

    THE TAKE HOME:
Recluse is good. It's good because you get one kill and can then just hipfire spray away without a care in the world because Master of Arms doesn't necessitate aiming for the head, and it can shred shields. HOWEVER, Recluse is not the end all be all of SMGs. Subjunctive, Mini Tool, Pillager, Bug Out Bag, and Exit Strategy ALL can go toe to toe with Recluse and be almost as effective in most use cases. You do not need the Recluse to be a bullet spraying god as long as you can aim. EDIT: Also Master of Arm's ability to refresh itself instantly is incredibly strong, as you really need certain setups to keep the other perks going. Not listed is Huckleberry but Huckleberry is by far the best SMG, between its great 750RPM archetype, its unnerfed version of Rampage, its rate of fire increasing as you hold the trigger, and its auto load on kills make it unequaled.

The season pass has changed my play style

    Posted: 07 Oct 2019 04:41 AM PDT

Not a bad thing at all. Pre shadowkeep I NEVER picked up bounties. Now I find myself stopping before an activity run to pick up bounties. Its given me that extra reason to pull out a fusion rifle and killing 30 enemies or pushing for those precision kills. It feels like there is more reason to grind out those bounties.

To those wondering why your weapons are highlighted in your inventory and wont stop

    Posted: 06 Oct 2019 10:29 PM PDT

It's the artifact mods causing them to flash as new. You can stop it by hovering over the artifact mods!

Edit: sounds like Rose (possibly the story version that can't take mods) is indeed a special flower, and likes to flash regardless. Otherwise thank you to everyone for the support and I'm so happy to help with this nuisance!

Season of the Undying - Silver Only Items

    Posted: 07 Oct 2019 08:49 AM PDT

Eververse items that will not be sold for Bright Dust during Season 8. Note: These are subject to change.

Sorry I didn't get to this sooner, I was a little tied up getting to Season Rank 100. I want to do a breakdown the Eververse stock for each week but the 'pattern' from last season has changed, so I might need a few weeks to get it down. Until then, here are all the items that are Silver only.

EDIT: Finishers are Silver Only. Forgot to add them Q>Q

    EDIT 2:

All of this is pulled from the Bungie API. I collected all new items into a list, then went through each Eververse Bright Dust slot and removed items until I got the final image you see here. HOWEVER, there seems to be some discrepancy between the Data and Bungie.

In a recent TWAB it's mentioned that "New Eververse items for Season of the Undying will become available for Bright Dust two weeks into the Season". This is already not true as "Make It Stop" is for sale.

I can see a few ways to read that text:

    • All new items will be sold for Bright Dust
    • New items will start selling for Bright Dust on week 3
    • New items will start selling for Bright Dust on week 3 on the Feature Tab.

The second option is already out.

The Feature Bright Dust tab supports the 2 week claim currently. HERE is an image of the Featured slots for the first 3 weeks.

And finally, there could be a new tab added that has all items for Bright Dust that you guy buy from at any time. The game doesn't seem to support that as it would make the Featured Bright Dust slots and the Bright Dust tab obsolete, and there are more than 3 weeks of items in each slot. It also goes against the ideas of FOMO.

    Ether way, I'm confused...

Nightfall Matchmaking is SOOOOO NICE. Please add matchmaking to other modes!

    Posted: 07 Oct 2019 08:44 AM PDT

Ran the NF Hero level (920) last night via matchmaking with two randoms - it was so easy to get going - OMG, please add matchmaking to all levels of NF, along with other modes (as you have done with Vex Invasion). Imagine Escalation Protocol with matchmaking - it would be so much more enjoyable! Yes, you run the risk of random bad matches/players but it makes the game so much more accessible.

EDIT: I understand the apprehension for matchmaking in high level activities and I agree that the raid shouldn't be purely matchmaking - I think that would become too frustrating for everyone. However, matchmaking isn't required when it is available - you can simply go in with a full group and no matchmaking happens.

The Lunar Fashion triumph needed for the Undying Title requires Dreambane armor instead of Substitutional Alloy armor to progress.

    Posted: 07 Oct 2019 03:48 AM PDT

Despite the title saying "Public Events while wearing a full set of SEASONAL armor" the triumph only progresses with the Dreambane Shadowkeep set. Makes no sense considering it is a seasonal triumph for a seasonal title.

Please keep in mind that a vex invasion will start shortly after a public event.

Luna is scarce enough as it is, but I've seen way too many times people just completing public events and then fast traveling back to wherever.

With the changes to powerful gear sources, the Black Armory economy is thoroughly borked

    Posted: 07 Oct 2019 10:46 AM PDT

Prior to season 8, you had to spend Ballistics Logs to forge the first two Black Armory forge weapons per week, but they would be powerful drops. After your first two frames, you could keep grinding by buying frames with Modulus Reports earned from daily bounties & forge completions. Since the forges aren't powerful gear sources anymore, Ballistics Logs are no different, purpose wise, from the much easier to obtain Modulus Reports.

However, even though Ballistic Logs do the same thing as Modulus Reports now, you still have to spend them on your first two black armory frames of the week, and the only way to get them is through the BA weekly bounties - a much more time consuming proposal than grinding Modulus Reports.

A quick fix to this would be to retire Ballistics Logs and collapse the currency just down to Modulus Reports, because as the system stands now there's an unnecessary speed bump for your first two frames of the week.

Bungie should turn the old raid exotics into quests

    Posted: 07 Oct 2019 02:00 PM PDT

Personally I would love it if they did. I used to raid quite often and have never gotten a raid exotic. I've gotten every item from SotP on all characters and still no Anarchy. It really bums me out seeing everybody I know using 1K, Anarchy, and Tarrabah, while I know I'll never get any of them. At least Divinity is a step in the right direction.
