Focused Feedback: Armor 2.0 and elemental affinity

    Posted: 04 Nov 2019 01:59 AM PST

    Hello Guardians,

Focused Feedback is where we take the week to focus on a 'Hot Topic' discussed extensively around the Tower.

We do this in order to consolidate Feedback, to get out all your ideas and issues surrounding the topic in one place for discussion and a source of feedback to the Vanguard.

This Thread will be active until next week when a new topic is chosen for discussion

Whilst Focused Feedback is active, ALL posts regarding 'Armor 2.0 and elemental affinity' following its posting will be removed and re-directed to this thread. Exceptions to this rule are as follows: New information / developments, Guides and general questions

Any and all Feedback on the topic is welcome. Sample discussion questions:

    • What are your general thoughts on armor 2.0?
    • Compare armor 2.0 to armor 1.0 - how does it feel better or worse? Why?
    • What are your thoughts on elemental affinity and on armor stats? What are your thoughts on the double RNG of acquiring armor with both the stats and affinity you want? Should there be a way to change affinity for a cost?
    • Do you feel like the elemental affinity system prevents you from effectively using certain weapon types together which you enjoy (especially when these weapon types are in different broad categories such as precision weapons vs scatter weapons)?
    • Bungie has said "generic" perks which will cost more are coming for some perk types which currently lack them (such as generic scavengers and ammo finders for weapon types, and generic ammo capacity mods) - will this help with the affinity issue?
    • Should exotic armor be exempt from elemental affinity? Why or why not?
    • What are your thoughts on exotic armor (and some legendary armor) lacking any seasonal mod slot?
    • What are your thoughts on some mods being available only in specific armor sets (example : taken armaments on dreaming city armor?)
    • What are your thoughts on the starting energy capacity of armor drops? Should there be a "minimum" energy capacity that every armor piece starts with?
    • What are your thoughts on energy costs of various specific mods? Which mods seem too expensive or too cheap and why?
    • What are your thoughts on the cost to upgrade armor to masterwork level in terms of glimmer and materials? Is 3 ascendant shards too much to masterwork an exotic?
    • What are your thoughts on the availability of materials required to upgrade armor to masterwork level (example: ascendant shards only available from 980 nightfalls)?
    • What other suggestions do you have to improve armor 2.0 or elemental affinity?

Regular Sub rules apply so please try to keep the conversation on the topic of the thread and keep it civil between contrasting ideas

Recent Bungie TWAB containing comments about armor 2.0 and justification of elemental affinity Summary below -

    • The armor energy system has the three following primary goals: 1. Give players the freedom to experiment with builds, while also requiring players to make creative choices when putting together those builds. 2. Give players the ability to balance mods above and beyond pure effectiveness. 3. Relieve information overload pressure on the mod UI....
    • When it comes to deciding which weapons were associated with which affinity, there were three main criteria used to choose where to put them: 1. Ammo Type... 2. Range... 3. Thematics...
    • We have seen feedback suggesting that, instead of locking mods into an energy type, the affinity should simply be a discount on the energy cost of the mod. That's actually what the broad-category mods (such as Rifle Loader, Precision Weapon Targeting, etc.) are meant to represent: a higher cost for gaining the benefit with a weapon not normally associated with that energy type.
    • Broad category ammo finder and ammo scavenger coming NEXT season
    • Broad category ammo capacity mods coming AFTER NEXT SEASON (potentially following season?)
    • Multiple mods of the same type on the same armor piece coming NEXT season (ex: double hand cannon loader but with diminishing returns)

Related Bungie Plz Megathread - Remove elemental affinity from armor 2.0

A Wiki page - Focused Feedback - has also been created for the Sub as an archive for these topics going forward so they can be looked at by whoever may be interested or just a way to look through previous hot topics of the sub as time goes on.

Anyone else having huge lags and frame drops while in the inventory screen applying mods or opening engrams?

    Posted: 04 Nov 2019 10:28 AM PST

Since Shadowkeep launched the performance went horribly down in those screens. Anyone else on PC having these issues?

Edit: here is a gif showing the severe lag: https://gfycat.com/disguiseddistortedairedale

In the second half you can clearly see a huge jump from the HC scavenger to the sniper dexterity mod. Nothing is sped up or cut in between (well, besides the 2 clips from gauntlets and legs cut together, but inside the inventory no cutting or editing)

Edit: Do our console friends have the same issue?

Why is 'Scaling glimmer cost' a thing for the artifact each time you reset it? It ruins the customizing options and makes it feel more punishing.

    Posted: 04 Nov 2019 06:22 PM PST

Like, why would you punish people for trying to experiment with the artifact? I thought bungie wanted us to have player freedom now regarding the artifact. I'm up to somewhere around 60k glimmer now to reset the artifact if i ever need to, and gonna be more if i go on from there. Bungie please fix this.

Extra gripe: Also can you for gods sake remove the artifact mods coming up as "new" in collectibles each time i reset and choose mods from there? It's feels really annoying thank you.

Could we get an answer as to why Breakneck was nerfed into the ground?

    Posted: 04 Nov 2019 04:58 AM PST

Before Shadowkeep, Breakneck was a niche but enjoyable weapon which only really became powerful when coupled with auto reloading setups. When Luna, rally barricade, and now SAG were nerfed it seemed like breakneck was going to end up even more niche, which would've been fine, in a world where recluse exists it could never be meta. Bungie had other plans though, making the whole reason to use breakneck, the increasing RoF, actually decrease the bullet damage as stacks of rampage increase, literally meaning that the gun performs worst at Rampage x3, around -10% dps I believe.

Let's consider the facts, breakneck starts a 450rpm goes to 600rpm then 720rpm at x3. However, because of the damage nerf to rampage coupled with onslaught, breakneck is essentially a green quality gun at this point. It literally has no beneficial perks, any y1 or blue auto is technically better than breakneck, a pinnacle legendary.

I don't even really care if the nerf is reversed, I just really would like to know why Breakneck was murdered while Recluse received only nominal nerfs, and mountaintop was untouched. Breakneck was never even in the conversation for best weapon, but myself and others enjoyed the gun, and I'd really like to know why Bungie very specifically destroyed it.

Reminder: Don't complete any pinnacle activities this week until Thursday's reset.

    Posted: 04 Nov 2019 10:52 AM PST

TL;DR Bungie updated the pinnacle drops. They increase power by +2 instead of +1 now. The update doesn't come until this Thursday so any pinnacle rewards you get before then are still +1 instead of +2.

    https://www.bungie.net/en/Explore/Detail/News/48413

We're not hitting our goals for the availability of rewards in all slots for the pinnacle-level rewards. You may have experienced getting duplicate Energy weapon drops from these sources, which is compounded by the need to get a drop in all slots in order to gain enough Power to raise your character's overall Power by 1. To mitigate this, we have increased the Power granted by pinnacle rewards to +2 instead of +1.

Once this change goes live, only four slots will be needed to increase your character's average Power, at which point your powerful rewards will allow those slots that you might have missed to catch up.

PLEASE NOTE: As this change is currently planned for next Thursday, players should wait to earn their pinnacle rewards until this hotfix is available so they can take advantage of the +2 change.

Edit: You can complete pinnacle activities now. I mean after Tuesday's reset, you should hold off on completing pinnacle activities until Thursday's reset.

Hey Bungie? Can you bring back random tower announcements?

    Posted: 04 Nov 2019 06:06 PM PST

"Fireteam Bouley, This is Ikora Rey, Do not leave the voice on the Comms."

"Will Fireteam.... (sigh) Will Fireteam 'The Bad Guys don't care what we call ourselves' please report to the Vanguard immediately."

"This is Ikora Rey. The South Tower is off limits because we are still cleaning up last night's... event."

Just to list a few of the announcements made. Think of the all the new one's that can be broadcasted.

It happens once a day, everyday. I know it's a small thing, but to me, it's the most annoying aspect of the game. I remember the days where I had to wait to load in to change my gear, it's an amazing QoL feature and I thank you for it, Bungie. Just please stop kicking me out of my menu.

    Bungie punishes whistleblowers

    Posted: 04 Nov 2019 03:19 PM PST

Look Bungie, we're months past Season of the Drifter, yet I'm still called a 'snitch' in every gambit match. Do I regret snitching? Of course I don't. My options were to keep the Vanguard apprised - the organization dedicated solely to protecting humanity's last city, and who's purpose I've worked toward for years - or to side with a space hobo who created a game that was getting guardians killed. The choice was obvious, however only one choice had consequences. All I'm asking for is to even it up and add a consequence for traitors that sided with the drifter (and are apparently proud of siding with a coward). I propose that every time they talk to Ikora she starts or ends the conversation with "I'm not angry at you, guardian, just disappointed."

Bungie, we’ve said it before, but unshaderable colors on armor are a total buzzkill.

    Posted: 04 Nov 2019 08:48 PM PST

Finally got enough bright dust for the 2018 FoTL set as I LOVE the evil scarecrow look, but am disheartened to see all the yellow I can't shader out. It almost kills the set for me. What's the benefit of having unchanging colors in certain armor sets?

I know it's something that has been said a million times over, but I'm just really bummed over this as that was ALL my dust.

(Hopefully flair is correct, new to posting).

Black Magic Warlock (A Voidwalker Warlock Build Guide)

    Posted: 04 Nov 2019 08:43 AM PST

Hey everyone, I really wasn't sure whether I should make this guide in the first place, let alone post it here, since I've seen the basics of this build posted so many times already. But, people seem to appreciate how in-depth and detailed my guides are from the last two posts, so I figured maybe new/returning players might still want it. Plus, I do have new information in here that I haven't seen mentioned at all before so even if you're already using the build you can still find it useful.

Anyways, it's an endgame build for Voidwalker Warlocks, and it's probably one of the strongest builds in the game right now. Personally I use it all the time when farming 980 Nightfalls, in the GoS raid, and to get my solo flawless Pit of Heresy clear.

This is the video guide for those who prefer watching: https://youtu.be/ZGarzfrRVIc

This is the text guide for those who prefer reading: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1VAGbczAK7XGli4jfODH-bxRt3a8WmSRtBbvtWGFg7XI/edit?usp=sharing

It's definitely a guide on the longer side, so thanks so much for checking it out! Feedback and suggestions are always appreciated.

EDIT: Thank you for the additional weapon suggestions! Gnawing Hunger, Reckless Oracle, and Every Waking Moment have been added to the guide.

    Posted: 04 Nov 2019 11:29 AM PST

Been grinding games of momentum for my 2nd melee weapon, and it seems an observable amount of the matches, if not a majority of them I load into it takes about a minute or 2 of a black screen with the map name before finally getting in to the match? Is this just me?

For the next round of emotes that are released, please add some emotes that include our ghost!

Title mostly, but I've been reading some lore on the ghosts, and I really want to give some love to our little lights. Even just an emote where our ghost pops up and we give it a gentle high five on it's "head". Or better yet, maybe even have it come out and we give each other a little side hip bump. Maybe I'm alone in thinking this but our ghosts are some of our best friends in universe, let's let them know how much we appreciate them!

Nostalgic Engrams Should Not Give Duplicate Shaders

    Posted: 04 Nov 2019 10:16 PM PST

Title is pretty self-explanatory, grinding 5 levels in the season pass can take a good bit of grinding so when you finally open one and one of the two rewards is more of a shader that you already have unlocked, it's a pretty unpleasant experience, especially since you can just easily and cheaply duplicate them from your collection.

Future Chroniclers out there, one of today's Heroic Story Missions is the Machinist

    Posted: 04 Nov 2019 10:28 AM PST

There is a dead Ghost hiding within the mission that can only be obtained in this mission as it is unreachable from Patrol. Go get it while you can, who knows the next time it will come back around!

"Weapons 2.0": Add an Actual Crafting System to Destiny 2

    Posted: 04 Nov 2019 01:21 PM PST

As Destiny 2 expands the RPG elements of the game, one place that could really see improvements is how we craft weapons. So here's my idea for "Weapons 2.0" to fully utilize the concept of a "gunsmith" and "weapon forges" to make weapons more customizable and help players create more personalized builds.

    • Each time you dismantle a weapon, it has a chance to drop a frame (i.e. High Impact Scout, Rapid Fire Auto, etc.), and/or any of it's components (barrel, scope, or perks).*
    • Weapons can also drop an elemental infusion.
    • To forge new weapons out of these components you have two options:
      • Banshee-44 can take a frame and any 4 components to give you a random rolled weapon with that frame.
      • Ada-1 can take a full weapon (frame, scope, barrel, perk, perk, optional elemental infusion) and provide a calibration quest which gives you a frame to be forged in the Black Armory, with the exact specs you wanted.
    • As a throwback to the one good part about the year 1 weapons system, any elemental infusion can be attached to any weapon type at forging - even if it there isn't a weapon that matches that element/weapon type.
    • Banshee and Ada would have a rotating stock of frames and components available for trade/purchase to help you get that one piece that's missing from your perfect gun.

So rather than dismantling dozens of guns for nameless materials and dumping 100s of materials on Banshee to get random guns, you would dismantle dozens of guns, and get potentially useful components out of each one. You would then turn components that you don't like into a random roll (on a weapon type of your choice), or turn components that you do like into a curated roll.

*This also has the potential to make blue drops interesting again, because some blue weapons have desirable components for forging better weapons.

Edit: just to be clear, components would be consumable, not unlocks like current mods are. This would provide more opportunities for grinding and make every weapon forged a "meaningful decision."

The Region chests and Lost sector triumphs bug is back

    Posted: 04 Nov 2019 07:22 AM PST

For those blueberries and kinderguardians who just joined us, back in the beginning of year 1 2 if one character has the completed the "find all region chests" and "complete all lost sectors" triumph but not a different one, and then you switch items between the two using something like DIM, you'll get the triumph announcement on the character you havent completed those triumphs on to pop up.

Its an annoying bug that had been fixed but has come back
