Destiny no longer feels like a game about activities, it feels like a game about chores.

    Posted: 24 Dec 2019 01:43 PM PST

Ever since Shadowkeep, my clan has slowly waned in activity every week. Less and less of my friends log in to play the game because in their words "It feels like a chore and I also hate FOMO". No one in my clan raids anymore because the likelihood of it actually providing them with a usable piece of gear or a power boost is so slim it just isn't worth doing. The game stopped feeling like something done for fun and instead an obligation because of the way the seasonal content model is being presented. Additionally, bounties have taken over the significance that running high level content once had. The odds of getting an upgrade (especially a power weapon) from a pinnacle activity are incredibly low, plus on weeks without Iron Banner the amount of pinnacle sources are incredibly scarce. This makes the only reasonable way of gaining power, doing bounties in a fireteam of three for the exp bonus. The Dawning makes this even more apparent with the double exp bounties. The game honestly feels like I'm logging on to go and get my list of chores from each NPC and then hop off for the day, only to do it again, especially if I want something from the eververse from The Dawning (each set is like 6k bright dust). The emphasis on bounties over actually running activities has turned this game into a massive chore to play and not something that is enjoyable day in and day out.

Also for all those tagging community managers, they aren't working this week I'm pretty sure based on Twitter posts from DMG_04 and Deej. If they reply to it, cool but I honestly wouldn't expect anything to happen by tagging them now.

Doing an Iron Banner “quest” each season is becoming infuriating. I just want to turn in my tokens.

    Forgive Uldren Sov

    Posted: 24 Dec 2019 04:57 AM PST

With Christmas just a few hours away and the dawning well underway, is it time to forgive Uldren Sov?

He might have been the villain just over a year ago with him killing Cayde-6 but let us not forget he is now a guardian, he sits alone in the wild with only his ghost for company, but he does not remember why we hate him so much, like every guardian before him, uldren sov lost his memory with his revival.

You might not like his formerself, but lets not pretend we are all good, many of us could have a dark past that we don't remember and many others became warlords before the Last City was formed.

Maybe you don't have to talk to him, give him gifts or even the time of day, but please allow him to see what he would be fighting for, the Last City, Humanity and the Light.

"To feel good, they say to each other: "Happy Dawning." - Uldren Sov and his Ghost to each other.

Edit: Thanks for my first silver

What's the point of getting all those cool looking ghost shells if I'm forced to use the Lunar shell for the optimal perks?

    Posted: 24 Dec 2019 08:21 AM PST

The current season pass includes a Saint themed ghost shell which looks really cool, there's also a shell for getting all the obelisks to level 10. My issue though is that those shells have incredibly crappy perks which aren't really useful in the real game. I can instead just use the Lunar Shell which was introduced in Shadowkeep and get both Guiding Light and Speed Demon with a planet specific combo detector perk, switching to sub-optimal shells just cause they look cool is not a great experience.

This also applies to every other shell in my collection, they just sit there, barely useful cause they have some terrible perks baked into them, I wish I could use one of those cool shells I got from doing activities but they're all terrible. Omni Telemetry or Public Defender are really bad and they seem to be really common on the exotic shells. It just limits the choices by a lot.

    Warlock bonds are incredibly lame.

    Posted: 24 Dec 2019 11:38 AM PST

I'm new to the game and compared to hunter cloaks and the titan knight skirt thing, warlock bonds seem really lame and barely noticeable.

Do they get cooler with higher end gear? I have not seen a single noteworthy bond yet.

Edit: Thanks for all the replies. I kind of wish I stayed naive and optimistic.

Why do people keep complaining about wanting new armor sets? We need ORNAMENTS, not armor sets!

    Posted: 24 Dec 2019 02:06 PM PST

    New armor sets are useless.

Bungie just released a new one with Iron Banner, but you will likeley use 1 or 2 pieces (if you're lucky!) of it, if you care about stats.

Do I really need to remind everyone that we already need to get through THREE different layers of RNG (high total stats, good stats distribution, and elemental affinity) for EVERY SINGLE piece of armor? And you want to REPEAT this process for EVERY single piece of new armor set that Bungie releases? And maybe masterwork it too? That's nuts.

Horrible stats, bad affinities, not masterworked.. the armor itself is useless 99% of the times.

What we need are new in-game attainable ornaments. Stop complaining about getting new armor sets without also pointing out that we NEED them to be ornaments as well.

Sorry, but the "50 gifts" weekly bounty is just ridiculous

    Posted: 24 Dec 2019 08:51 AM PST

I feel like I play this game a decent amount, and I didn't manage to complete this bounty on even one of my characters. Even with the masterworked oven, you need 500 essence to get 50 gifts; going for the fastest farm in the game - reckoning T1, which takes about 10 minutes per run (counting all the waiting around between runs), you're getting 42 essence/hour if you're just grinding reckoning.

Using this method, it would take 11.92 hours to get enough to craft all the gifts, rounding it up to 12 hours or even down to 11 and a half (if you're going really fast), that's a massive time investment for a measly 200 dust and that's just for one character. Even if you're a master speedrunner, and you halve that time, it's way too long for a weekly bounty - the point still stands.

If you ask me, this shows very little respect for the player's time, and makes it quite clear that Bungie doesn't intend this bounty to be completed by the majority. This approach is far too stingy imo - advertising a bonus 1200 dust being earnable during the event is just bs, because it just isn't feasible for the average player to complete. Bungie is proving to be quite a scrooge this year.

No Red Hive Armor in Shadowkeep??

    Posted: 24 Dec 2019 04:27 AM PST

Why doesn't the Hive themed Expansion "Shadowkeep" have Hive themed armor?

Sure there are various Vex themed sets from the Raid and "Season of the Undying" but nothing for the Hive who have a Scarlet Castle on the Moon? No Hive themed armor to grind from the Scarlet keep strike or even the "Pit of Heresy" dungeon?

Nothing like this? (not my work): https://cdnb.artstation.com/p/assets/images/images/019/644/543/large/lily-tosthage-img-0094.jpg?1564415425

Maybe we'll get an "Age of Triumph" event that adds them later but I think it was a missed opportunity to not have them in Shadowkeep.

The reason why Iron Banner can feel unbearable now.

    Posted: 24 Dec 2019 10:38 AM PST

So last season this was brought up quite a bit, but now that Iron Banner is back again and we have another annoying quest I thought I'd bring this up again. The restriction on having to go through a lengthy & tedious quest that forces you to play a certain way and not actually let you enjoy the pvp experience ruins the mode. You could ignore the quest, but then you miss out on being able to spend the currency you've saved up. I understand people think if you don't do the quest you don't deserve to spend the currency, but that's asinine. This kind of attitude leads to pvp burnout for a lot of players and a frustration towards the pvp section of the community.

I'm not even saying there shouldn't be a quest, just that it shouldn't lock you out of claiming the bear minimum from a vendor. The quest could be optional and following the steps only reward you more than someone playing that just wants to have fun and get some loot, at this point I can imagine a lot of our playerbase has hundreds of tokens but wont spend it since they don't feel like grinding another pointless quest. Hell if I didn't want the hunter armor I'd ignore it all together.

Edit: PUTTING THIS UP HERE FOR VISIBILITY

You can't make progress on weapon kills until you are on that step, shotgun kills will only count once you are on the third step, rocket launcher kills will only count once you are on the final step, etc.

The game I feel in love with is not here anymore. Just my two cents about the state of the game and why is a chore for some.

    Posted: 24 Dec 2019 08:37 PM PST

Wall of text ahead, and there's a TLDR at the end.

Ok so first of all, is not because I've played too much and I need to take a step back and come later. I have 7k hours in Dota2 so the repetitive aspect of this game doesn't bother me. I've played so many grind MMORPG's and I wouldn't really get bored of them.

I quit the MMORPG genre almost 2 years ago before Forsaken when I felt in love with this game. I always played MMORPGS and everything in them felt like a chore. You always had to run a set of activities every damn week and log-in every damn day for dailies to keep up with the gear. (depend on the mmo you've played). They all start to feel like a chore after you hit the end-game spot.

When I got into Destiny 2, someone gifted me the base game, and in less than 2 days I bought CoO + Warmind. I was AMAZED on how rewarding the game was, how much things you had to chase for, and you could do all of these at your own pace. It was a breath of fresh air to play a game whenever you want, and take a pause whenever you want without remaining behind. I can't express my feelings of how happy I was with this game.

Then Forsaken Dropped and I didn't had the money to buy it at launch. I bought it somewhere in December 3-4 months later after launch. Man I was BLOWN away. The amount of content, 2 new zones, new super, new armors everywhere, new exotics. There was SO MUCH.

Then the year pass dropped and it wasn't perfect, but it was good.

The point I'm trying to make :

Is the fact that then, I could just play whatever activity I wanted to play and get rewarded. I barely touched bounties and I would still get seasonal engrams and event engrams to get rewards and bright dust. Not only that, but if you wanted a piece of armor you would just go to an activity and "grind" that armor.

Right now, the game is not rewarding anymore. Is limiting you and forcing you to play certain things, exactly like a bad MMO. You want Bright Dust? You can only play Gambit/Crubile/Strikes. That's it. And it feels like a chore because all of those eververse rewards you could get them before by just playing whatever the heck you wanted to. You could play only menagerie, or reckoning, or only doing raids and still get event and seasonal items and that was FUN no matter what others say. Yea it was "cosmetics" only, but every piece of the damn armor is just cosmetics.

You can't even farm a set of gear anymore if you want the best stats. And this is a big problem. Also the seasonal mod is another problem. If you want good stats armor you can only get them from Raid and Iron Banner (I may be wrong, but the point is, that you can't play whatever activity you want if you need 80+ armor stats)

Every armor should have a "Bonus mod" on it and have all these nightmare and seasonal mods available to them, or just make every armor ornament and make it "harder" to get, instead of just giving it away for doing mostly nothing.

The FOMO also makes this game feels really bad. As I said, I personally didn't had money to buy Forsaken at launch. I get it later and still enjoyed everything in it. Now you have to put pressure on yourself to get in-game and do stuff NOW to not miss the content. Is freaking stupid, and who invented FOMO...I hope you're dead! (I'm sorry, but not really). Now I have to scream at my friends to grind just so they can experience the content with me before is gone. This really sucks

    TL:DR :

The game was more rewarding before the Season Of Opulence, because you could basically avoid bounties, play whatever activity you wanted and still get bright dust and eververse items. The armors didn't had restricting mod slots, the game didn't limit you to play a certain weapon/element, so you could pretty much farm whatever armor you wanted.

Now it all boils down to people farming the same bounties every week to levelup their battlepass and getting bright dust, and those 3 pinnacle activities. Nothing else matters in this game anymore if you want to get "rewards".

The game is not BAD, I still love the game, but lately I'm playing less and less, and there are less things to care for.

Thank you if you read all of this, and Merry Christmas!

Bungie, Can Saint-14 sell lore gear?

    Posted: 24 Dec 2019 06:32 AM PST

I just had a quick idea. Remember in D1 where the speaker would sell lore based gear? Like the "Legend of the Six Coyotes Cloak", "Ana Bray's twilight gap cloak" and Thalor's Golden Maul Titan mark

These items were very lore based and personally i loved to buy them and act like I am the legend in the flesh. So Bungie I was wondering if in the future that Saint-14 could sell things that are similar. It would be very cool if he sold lore based gear maybe of Shin Malphur, Wei Ning, Toland and etc.

Bungie. Seriously. Hitting a wall at 5mph should not kill me from half health.

It is incredibly frustrating how often this complete BS kills me. Unless it is your intention for stomp mechanics and Phalanxes to be the number one cause of death in Destiny, could you please address the amount of damage hitting a wall does?

It blows my mind that, even after 5 years of this game being out, people still can't grasp the concept of "make red square blue" in Control.

    Posted: 24 Dec 2019 09:48 AM PST

There is a reason why I've hated Iron Banner in D2 more than ever. Ever since it was made into JUST Control it has been a complete disaster of a monthly event. I would like for Bungie to look at the match statistics and see the purely staggering number of mercy rule endings that occur in Iron Banner and rethink this whole "always Control" thing. Yes, matches go by fast, but the time it takes to complete 5 matches to get 5 tokens is a hell of a lot longer than it takes to just finish one match and actually work hard to win.

If it's going to stay people should at least be receptive of advice. Capturing a point grants you Super energy. Capturing a point secures a spawn location. Capturing a point gives you points toward your score and can improve your Dawning Essence payout (I got 21 from a match I did VERY well in).

Play the objective please. If you see a red square with a letter in it, please make it blue. Just give everyone else this small Christmas gift.

We need more avenues for efficiently earning XP outside of bounties

    Posted: 24 Dec 2019 08:26 PM PST

I love Destiny, but recently I have had no desire to play because what is required of me to make substantial progress simply isn't fun. As of now the game revolves almost entirely around bounties and it's just too much.

I think if they made certain activities reward more XP so that we had other avenues for ranking up our season pass efficiently, I would enjoy my play time much more. For example, it would be nice if clearing a raid rewarded a substantial amount of XP. It makes sense, seeing as they are supposed to be Destiny's most difficult content. Or, offering various challenges in different activities that reward XP. Notice I said challenges, not bounties. Something that rewards guardians for being good at the game, or simply playing better. I.E. clearing a raid boss encounter with no one dying in your fireteam. Clearing a raid boss encounter within a certain time limit rewards x3 XP. Placing first on the leaderboards in PvP activities rewards x2 XP. Etc.

These are just examples, but I truly think that this is my biggest gripe with Destiny's current state as far as gameplay is concerned. Having more ways to efficiently earn XP would make my playtime so much more enjoyable. I'm not a fan of "I better make sure to log in and get my dailies done, or I'm gonna fall behind." Or, "I better use this playtime to do all of my dailies instead of other activities that I enjoy, otherwise I'm sacrificing progression."

I started playing Destiny 2 today after a long Destiny break, and the opening made me damn near cry

    Posted: 24 Dec 2019 03:38 PM PST

I stopped playing Destiny after I went to college, and was really sad when I realized I wouldn't have the time or resources to play Destiny 2 when it released.

I just got back for winter break and found my brother had downloaded the base game, and seeing that slideshow with the dates when I beat certain milestones and raids, along with the gamertags of the guardians I was alongside, made me really emotional. I remembered all the great times and memories I made in D1, and I'm excited to make what I can of D2 before I go back to school!

    Happy holidays guardians!

Gifts of bright dust should drop much more often during the dawning.

It's the season of giving. Please bungie. Bright dust is so scarce.
