I think it's time for another Exotics Overhaul Pass.

    Posted: 28 Dec 2019 07:35 PM PST

The last significant one to dramatically affect multiple exotics was around when Warmind dropped, in 2018. Since then, quite a few new mechanics have been implemented - like the new barrier/overload/unstoppable mods. Additionally, some of the exotics that have been introduced since are.. fairly underwhelming.

Outside of a few powerhouses, niche builds, and the newer exotics with intrinsic Nightfall mods, so many of the Exotics will likely never be used again unless extensively retooled to fit the newer gameplay.

I hope that in the near future, Destiny will see a "Season of Gold", and focus on the existing weapons and armor. More specifically, the pool of exotics that are going to continue collecting dust.

(Edit, to clarify the extent of what I mean by "overhaul" and added a link)

If you've maxed out your obelisks already, start saving your polarized fractaline

    Posted: 28 Dec 2019 01:39 PM PST

There is a currently secret triumph that was found on Braytech that requires you to donate 5000 polarized fractaline to the Empyrean Foundation, which drops early February I believe. To make the acquisition of this triumph a little easier, I'd recommend just saving your fractaline until then and then farming your god rolls at the end of the season. IMO it seems like it'd be easier to cram grind for some god rolls rather than last minute cram for a currency that is acquired scarcely from activity completions and through tedious bounties.

Divinity's Catalyst should give it Overflow

    Posted: 28 Dec 2019 11:51 AM PST

The combination of Overflow with its intrinsic perk would be incredibly synergistic, allowing you to maintain a debuff for even longer. Or at the very least give it Deeper Reserves.

I want to thank Bungie for this seasons Eververse sets

    Posted: 28 Dec 2019 01:35 PM PST

I've never been more interested in keeping my money to myself. I main Hunter, and the Veist set looks fucking horrendous. The Titan Omolon set just looks dumb, and the Warlock set looks... meh, which is especially disappointing considering Tex Mechanica is my favourite foundry.

It's great that festering core is on the nightfall rotation. You know what else would be great Bungie? An incentive to run it!

    Posted: 28 Dec 2019 08:11 AM PST

Don't take this as a salt post or such, but it really would be cool if we could get something... Anything out of that nightfall when we run it, we can't even show off a high score run if we do one due to the lack of an Emblem.

Please Bungie, don't let this strike, or strikes overall, left behind and do seasonal stuff only, it's one of the bread and butter activities in this game.

As a Warlock main, it's gotten more and more disheartening to see Bungie routinely ignore the class' many flaws

    Posted: 28 Dec 2019 08:44 PM PST

(Skip to the break if you don't want some backstory)

Let's go back to 2014.. I first heard about Destiny by reading about it in Gameinformer and thought it was pretty cool. Back then, I wasn't big on reading up on games in development, so I didn't know much. I was at the mall with my mom and saw Gamestop selling Destiny on launch day, and talked her into getting it for me as an early Birthday present.

So I go home and pop it in my 360, hype as shit 'cause, hey, I loved Halo, and Bungie was a great developer. I get to character creation and look at my options. Human, blue glowy human or... robot? Sure, yeah, let's be a robot. And what're the classes? Punchy boi, sneaky stabby boi and... Warlock? Wait, are you telling me I can be a... robot space wizard? And is he wearing a trenchcoat? Robot space wizard cowboy? Sign me the fuck up!

So was born Angel-42, who was named long before we knew about robot Alzheimers or DER (which is fake news perpetrated by Clovis Bray). He went into the closet for a two years when I became a Titan main on PS4 for years 2 and 3, but I remade him when I got Destiny on PC. Long story short, I adore Warlocks. The idea of being a space wizard in a sci-fi setting, throwing magic missiles and using flaming angel wings and full on Palpatine levels of lightning is fantastic to me. I certainly love it more than "punch thing but zap" or "throw knife but fire", it's more interesting to me, and really ties in the whole space fantasy aspect that I love so much.

Come Forsaken and I discover the new Warlock supers. While I started with Attunement of Fission, I eventually gravitated to being a Attunement of Grace main once I got Phoenix Protocol halfway through Black Armory. I loved the idea of being a combat support space wizard that could drop healing and damage boosting pools of fire, the animation just made it better. Then came Lumina! A gun that synergized perfectly, even if there were some issues with it (Lumina sucks solo, rip). And recently they buffed Grace so you can more reliably buff your teammates and keep Benevolent Dawn up, coupled with the fact that Phoenix Protocol was least affected by the super regen exotic nerf. This should mean that I'm in the best place for Warlocks, right? That I'm absolutely satisfied with where they are.

Except, I'm not. I've been playing Titan and Hunter a lot more lately. Why's that? Because Warlocks are not only broken in the sense that plenty of their abilities flat out do not work as intended or as they should (and we'll get into that), but because their design is just... so lackluster compared to the other classes. I'm not even talking about the move from space trenchcoats to space dresses or the loss of holographic Bonds, but the worsening fashion is certainly part of it.

Let's look at Attunement of Fission, for instance. What do you get with this? Well, you can turn your grenade into a short range shotgun with the coolest sounding name in the whole game (seriously, Handheld Supernova), void ability kills give some ability energy and health, you can punch things further so they explode and you can float around and explode things. Well, that's fine, right?

Except, it was smacked with the nerf bat almost immediately, because it was good in Crucible. Now it's useless in both PvE and PvP, save for HHSN, which is... contentious to say the least, and I won't get into that here. My point is that there's no reason to run it in PvE, and the only reason you're running it is for one ability in PvP. Let's look at another one of the new middle trees introduced with Forsaken, and recently buffed.

Code of the Devastator, middle tree Sunbreaker, is a very well designed subsubclass that has excellent internal synergy, good use in both PvE and PvP and doesn't oppress people like Nova Warp used to. You have a throwing hammer that you can pick back up (or it explodes like a grenade if you leave it be), you get a boost to ability damage every time you get an ability kill (which lasts an eon and stacks up to 90% in PvE and I think 75% in PvP) and picking up the hammer after beaning something with it immediately starts your healing. Burning Maul has excellent CQC and ranged crowd control, and also lasts an eon, while giving you good super armor. You can absolutely build around this, using things like One-Two Punch and Wormgod to boost the damage of your hammers through the stratosphere. Have you ever one-shot a Champion by bouncing a hammer off its head? Seriously, it's a drug.

Warlocks... don't have anything like this. The closest they get is either Attunements of Hunger or Grace, bottom tree Voidwalker and middle tree Dawnblade. The former's "synergy" is that you get a buff called Devour by either punching an enemy or eating your grenade, and kills with Devour active reset the timer, restore your health and give grenade energy. Unfortunately, the super sucks, but it's acceptable since you can combo with Nezarec's Sin and get it back pretty quickly, and the rest makes for an excellent add-mulching class. But there isn't really much synergy here, nor is there much in the realm of build possibilities beyond "you get grenades and super faster." Attunement of Dawn's synergy begins and ends at "buffing/healing your allies boosts your ability regen", and by uniquely (and thankfully) synergizing with Lumina. But Lumina is underwhelming as a weapon and suffers from a problem many primary exotics share, in that it doesn't perform well enough to justify giving up an exotic special or heavy. Plus, there's the fact that Warlocks don't have any "return on use" ranged melee abilities, like throwing hammer or weighted throwing knife. And speaking of ranged melee abilities...

And now let's look at the stuff that flat out does not work. Ball Lightning and Celestial Fire, two ranged melee abilities that... aren't melee abilities, for some reason. Or even arc or solar abilities for the purposes of bounties and triumphs. Oh, sure, they trigger Swashbuckler and Grave Robber, but Impact Induction? Hands On? I'm pretty sure neither of those trigger, and I sure as hell know that neither benefits from Winter's Guile or One-Two Punch, so right there, you can't build around those abilities to get massive melee damage boosts. And since neither of them return on use, you have to run Monte Carlo to effectively get them back constantly. Plus, there was that bug with Claws of Ahamkara for a while that meant that you'd occasionally eat both charges at the same time, but that was recently fixed.

This is just one example, but some other lovely Guardians out there have compiled a far more complete list, right here. Additionally, you can see here how Warlocks have a significantly slower melee speed than the other two classes, despite no longer having the extended range they had in D1.

Tl;Dr Warlocks are the only class that especially leans into the "fantasy" part of "space fantasy", but are left behind in terms of being bugged to shit and not having very interesting kits that allow for building.

Thanks for coming to my Toland Talk, which is appropriate, since he was a Warlock.

Why Osiris Doesn't Get Cookies This Dawning:

    Posted: 28 Dec 2019 03:28 PM PST

Osiris was disappointed when Ikora told him he wouldn't receive cookies for the Dawning, so he used the Infinite Forest to see why. Here are some of the different timelines he saw:

    • After eating them and finding them to be delicious, he resolves to create the perfect cookie, using the Infinite Forest's power to simulate every possible combination of ingredients. Eventually, one of these simulated recipes achieves sentience and becomes a new cookie-based Axis mind like Dendron, which the Guardian has to fight.
    • Osiris wishes for some milk to go with the cookies, and, finding no 2% milk on Mercury, uses Vex Milk as a substitute. He dips the cookies in Vex Milk, eats them, and becomes another Aegis shaped like a giant snickerdoodle. Ikora, upon seeing this, facepalms, with the Guardian waiting eagerly for Vault of Glass 2.0.
    • The cookies turn out to be Sagira-shaped, and Osiris, absorbed in the delectable taste of the cookies he's eating, accidentally eats his Ghost without noticing. Osiris loses his Light and chokes on the shards of Sagira's shell, depriving Mercury of its best defender.

In spite of the obvious negative outcomes of these timelines, Osiris had Eva Levante make him a batch of cookies, believing that he would not fall into the same traps of his simulated counterparts (even though he probably would). Fortunately, Ikora caught wind of the situation and Nova-bombed the cookies out of Osiris' hands, resulting in a new crater on Mercury and a very depressed Osiris.

How do you think Osiris would fuck up with a tin of cookies?

Towerthought: If Destiny combat were real, I would have killed all my teammates instead my enemies multiple times.

I lost the count of how many times my teammates stood in front of me when I was shooting at my enemies, making me miss headshots and kills. If Destiny combat were real, many teammates would be dead by my weapons.

It’s not that it’s a chore, it’s that the cycle is broken.

    Posted: 28 Dec 2019 10:20 AM PST

Of late the chatter regarding the season pass, and the 3 month cycle of activities has re-emerged, not as forward looking speculation but as a near halfway check-in. As summarized by Paul Tasi's article the focus of this dialogue seems to be centred around the chores-i-ness of the new structure, but I think this framing misses a far more important design flaw, or unintended consequence, of the latest approach to annual content… Let me explain.

First let me say I believe myself to be fairly representative of the committed Destiny community. I do not possess god like abilities of the Esoteriks and Dattos, or roll with the Math Classes, or True Vanguards. However, I manage a clan, I have a standing raid team that converges weekly and a comp team on the trail of Unbroken. Generally when I can, I sneak on to play. The amount of time in any given week ranging from 5 hours to 20, depending on work, social commitments, vacation, new content drops etc.

My most dedicated Destiny sojourns have all been characterized by a particular cycle, which I feel is now broken with this years approach to content. This cycle could be described as follows; trail blaze, familiarize, friend zone, and conquest. Given my allowable time to play, which I believe is similar to many other Guardians, a 3 month time box is insufficient for this cycle to complete. And therefore I find myself playing less, and missing the previous forms of the Destiny hobby.

    Let's dig into the cycle:

Trail-baze: Straightforward - new content drops, new raid, you want to experience it before the spoilers are everywhere. Maybe you take the day off work, or avoid making any social commitments over the weekend. You sit down for hours on end and tear through the new content.

Familiarize: Your discovering new things, new complexities of the system, whether thats around loot, and god roll weapons, improved strategies for raid encounters, farming approaches to mats… you're becoming more proficient in your undertakings and min/maxing your builds / load outs and approaches.

Friend Zone: You're relatively content. No, you haven't done all the things, but you've hit max light, you've got a build you're pretty happy with. Your space chore time is mostly spent helping friends out, or just being social and rocking random activities with whomever is star-side.

Conquest: The end of the season draws near, you're missing a few of the eggs for Cursebeaker, you haven't achieved enough glory for that pinnacle weapon.. Really? All you're missing are the Gambit Triumphs for the 2019 title? Better get on that.

This phase is when the blinders come on, and average time spent goes up. When you've decided to chase a thing you didn't really care about at the beginning of the season/year, but now you think you're close enough, so you're going to go for it. It doesn't feel "chores-ie" because there's a little bit of nostalgia to it.. you've been here before… not yesterday, or just last week, but earlier in the year, you where here for a different purpose, you were here with a different fireteam, you were lower light and more squishy then. If someone had told you to use a sword and jump across a pitch black chasm to find a hidden egg you would have told them to forget it, there was too much else to do. But now you're on a mission.

This cycle of friendship, accomplishment, and choose your own adventure (conquest) is what has always made Destiny great. Remember D1? What? I get raid armour that's less powerful than my current stuff until I level it up with raid currency? Why would I do that???

IMO in Destiny's newest iteration this critical cycle is broken, as the 3 month time box is too tight to allow it to emerge organically and be the uncanny foundation for friendships, accomplishments and memories that has always set Destiny apart.

What do you think? Anyone else missing this? Are you finding you're playing less, despite there being more seasonal changes?

Are there some sounds that you find weirdly enjoyable in the game? I have a few.

    Posted: 28 Dec 2019 04:01 PM PST

The cling Monte Carlo makes when you get your melee back. The deep echo that plays when you die to a Sentinel's throwing shield in PvP, even better if bass boosted.

I find those really enjoyable for no real reason. Weird.

Why does Spectral Blades get the highest damage resistance and Chaos Reach get the second lowest?

    Posted: 28 Dec 2019 12:22 PM PST

Spectral blades is a mobile and nimble roaming super, with invisibility.

Chaos reach is a stationary super where the guardian is a sitting duck hovering 20 feet in the air for all to target.

    How does that make sense?

Edit: to everyone saying "what about this other super" or anything to that effect, you should go into politics. Classic avoiding the question by blaming something unrelated. I'm talking about the logical process the game devs had when they determined which supers deserve what level of damage resistance in order to make a balanced game. Any super that is stationary means the user is more likley to be an easy target, means the user should probably have more damage resistance.

Bungie Please do not let the Reckoning start if there are not 4 players in the fireteam.

    Posted: 28 Dec 2019 05:52 PM PST

I'm sure this has been mentioned before, but often after a run of the Reckoning finishes, whether successful or unsuccessful, players leave. Yet still, the game continues, forcing the 2 players left in the room to continue through with the motions to try to get the first level off while waiting for other players to join in, which often doesn't happen until after the first level is already failed. Or on the other hand, you might queue into one of these matches where its just one poor soul trying to fend off the ads all by himself.

Either way, it sucks and is a huge waste of time.

Yeah I'll just say it, Fortnite has a more rewarding season pass

    Posted: 27 Dec 2019 11:38 PM PST

I dont know if this is a controversial opinion or not, but I honestly feel irs true.

The Destiny season passes are a massive time sink for rewards that, honestly, kinda suck. Same set of armor multiple times? Planet mats? Glimmer? Cool. Glad I spent so much time grinding only to not even get the ornament set.

Meanwhile the fortnite pass, despite having it's fair share of meh drops, has something like 13 or 14 skins this season. Half of those are unlocked via straight season pass grinding and half via actual challenges and questlines. They also sprinkle in a healthy amount of premium currency as well. It's enough to either buy a new premium skin pack (which is a skin, cutting tool, glider, and backpack) or the next 2 season passes with some currency left over.

And that's not even mentioning the availability of experience from fortnite challenges and double exp weekends.

I ground season of the undying up until the last 3 weeks of the season where I burnt out. And even then I came back and did 6 or 7 runs of undying mind and the a handful of weeklies during the last week. And I felt like I hadn't actually gotten anything substantial for my time when the season ended. Infact, I was so put off by the crazy amount of grinding versus the pitiful rewards that I havent wanted to come back this season. Sure at some point I'll run the story missions, but I dont care enough to grind out the pass. Meanwhile in under 3 weeks of playing fortnite I feel like the pass was a solid purchase that added variety to the game with its challenges and rewarded me for my time with the abundant drops of cool gear with unique visual effects and branching challenges for unlock alternate appearances for the characters I'd gotten. And in one case this was just a pallet swap, but in all the other cases these may as well have been whole new characters

Its almost 2 am and I didnt get much sleep last night so sorry if this is ramble or the point I'm trying to make sucks.

Tl;dr: destiny's pass feels like way more of a grind for less reward. Fortnites pass provides way better rewards including a generous amount of premium currency (1950 silver, which is like $20 worth. And the pass is only 950 silver). I think bungie should really take note

EDIT: people are saying it's unfair to make this comparison because the games are so different. One is a free to play competitive multiplayer game where loot is secondary to the actual goal: first place. And one is a loot based MMO-shooter where grinding for loot is the main gameplay loop.

And they're totally right. They are very different games with very different goals. Which is why a battlepass is totally fine in one but feels unrewarding and shit in the other.

Edit: hey google, how do you mute a post on reddit? My inbox is getting stuffed fuller than piper perri

Edit: oh shit that wasnt google

PvP Valor / Glory Legend resets should reward a pinnacle drop.

Osmosis works even after changing subclass

    Posted: 28 Dec 2019 05:05 PM PST

If for some reason you wanted to run an arc primary kinetic with a void or solar subclass you can do that! Just toss a grenade with the osmosis gun out and then switch to whatever you want to play.

So whats your results after turning in tokens to Saladin?

    Posted: 28 Dec 2019 04:07 PM PST

After finishing the IB quest I turned in 1500 tokens. Got maybe 2-3 remotely decent armor, rest was absolute garbage.

so in the end 100 tokens were okish, 1400 garbage for fast sharding

Destiny 2 needs a warning label

    Posted: 28 Dec 2019 02:33 AM PST

Like Jesus Christ this shit's like god damn gamer heroin. I started playing a little bit after shadowkeep release new light steam etc and I wasn't prepared for how god damn addicting it is. So much stuff to do

    So much loot to roll

So much min maxing to do

    So much to grind for

For a player like me it's like fucking a drug made by the gods and I can't get enough. I'm halfway through a 7 hour drive and all I can think of is when I get back to my computer what gear I'm grind for next and how I'm gonna prepare for my first raid. Please add a warning label to this game
