This week at Bungie, a new Season is upon us.

Season of Dawn has finally come. Osiris calls upon you to combat the remnants of the Red Legion and prevent them from creating an alternate reality where they are victorious. Guardians are swarming Mercury and the Sundial in an effort to fix time itself. Obelisks revealed themselves on Mars and the Tangled Shore, bringing new Bounties to complete for sweet loot.

We are two days into the new Season with much more on the horizon. A legend needs saving, and additional obelisks will become available on alternate destinations next week.

    Image Linkimgur

Not only is this a change in Seasons, but an opportunity for your arsenal to evolve. New Exotic Catalysts are in the wild, granting benefits to a few Exotics you know and love. New Legendary weapons have been introduced, some packing new perks to give you an edge in combat. Keep an eye out for Vorpal Weapon, granting you additional damage against bosses, vehicles, and Guardians with their Super active. We've already had a few players ask if the Boss Spec weapon mod stacks, to which we say… go find out!

Three new Exotics have also been introduced to Destiny 2 for owners of Shadowkeep.

    Hunter: The Bombardiers

Parting Gift: Dodging leaves behind an explosive that detonates after a short delay, damaging enemies around it.

    Video Link

    Warlock: Promethium Spur

Embers of Light: While Daybreak is active, defeating combatants or Guardians creates a Healing and Empowering Rift at their location.

    Video Link

    Titan: Severance Enclosure

Spheromatik Trigger: Defeating a Guardian with a melee attack or a combatant with a finisher unleashes a damaging explosion.

We'll be watching as you earn your loot, perfect your loadouts, and dominate your enemies in combat. Think you've created a good build? Sound off on Twitter and you might find a retweet from @Bungie.

    Dawn of the Dawning

Along with the cold weather, Eva Levante is returning to the Tower. The Dawning is all about keeping warm though, as you'll be asked to bake cookies for your favorite (and less than favorite) vendors in our solar system.

    The Dawning

Begins: 9:00 AM Pacific on 12/17/2019

Ends: 9:00 AM Pacific on 1/14/2020

All of Eva's ingredients and cookies return from last year's event. We also added new ingredients and recipes and made some improvements to the baking process. For each batch of cookies delivered, you'll gain progress towards bounties and rewards for some Seasonal cheer.

    Image Linkimgur

This year, Eva has a new SMG for you to bake: the Cold Front. Additionally, if you missed out on the perfect roll for the Machine Gun Avalanche last year, it's your time to shine. Both weapons will be available to earn throughout the entire event.

    Image Linkimgur

Weekly and repeatable Dawning bounties also grant Bright dust, giving you more sources of this currency for new items on the Eververse storefront.

    Image Linkimgur

One item will be Silver only: The Perfect Ten finisher.

    In Case You Missed It

Did you find yourself in a mad dash to finish your Season of the Undying Triumphs and forget to pick up a few of your Season track rewards? We have good news! We created a new portal on the Seasons page that grants access to your Season Pass rewards track. Any items you earned will be available to claim, even if a season has ended.

    Steps for success:

    • Ensure you have available in-game inventory space, and at least 10 slots available at your postmaster
    • Sign in to Bungie.net, or sign in to the Destiny Companion App
    • Head to https://www.bungie.net/7/en/Seasons/PreviousSeason
    • Select your platform and character
    • Pick up any items that you're missing
    • Repeat for any alternate characters that may have missed their items

    A New Dawn

    Image Linkimgur

A funny thing happened on the way to Dawn. With the added functionality of mod stacking in Armor 2.0, players were quick to find an interesting combination that could fully recharge a super in a single dodge. Player Support was quickly on the case.

    This is their report.

This week, Season of Dawn went live following Tuesday's deployment of Destiny 2 Update 2.7.0. Players looking for this Season's official support resource need to look no further than our brand new Season of Dawn Support landing page.

From this page, players can learn how to get started with this new Season, as well as find out vital information and known issues relevant to Season of Dawn.

    Holiday Treats

Next week, The Dawning returns for all players in Destiny 2. Just like Festival of the Lost, New Light players will need to ensure they meet the following requirements before they can participate in The Dawning festivities:

    • Escape the Cosmodrome to unlock The Tower.
    • Achieve 770 Power.

Once The Dawning is live, players should look to our help.bungie.net support landing page for our official Destiny 2 Dawning Guide. Until then, players can learn more about The Dawning by visiting our event page.

Destiny 2 Season of Dawn Known Issues

With the launch of this new Season, our Player Support Team continues their ongoing efforts in monitoring player reports in search of the latest gameplay-impacting issues. For the running tally, players should always look to our active Known Issues thread.

Here are some key items following this week's launch:

    • Some PC settings will reset when players close and reopen the Destiny 2 client. Settings which have been confirmed to be impacted include: Window Mode, Resolution, Vsync, Framerate Cap, Anti-Aliasing Mode, and the key-binding for forward movement.
    • Resonant Stems are not providing Override Frequencies when consumed.
    • Some Forsaken activities cannot be accessed – and result in HONEYDEW errors when launched.
    • Dynamo mods have been temporarily disabled to mitigate an issue where they recharged Super energy abnormally quickly.
    • The Sunbreaker Titan Bundle has been temporarily removed from Eververse since it was not being discounted for players who already owned some ornament pieces.
    • Players who accept or complete a quest from Osiris will need to back out of his menu entirely and interact with him again to continue picking up other quests. This must be repeated for every quest picked up.
    • Players may not be able to progress the Sundial activity if the player who started the encounter dies before their allies join them. Players can work around this issue by quitting the activity or logging out and relaunching Destiny 2.
    • The Season of Dawn seal for the "Savior" title incorrectly lists a requirement of 28 Triumphs completed to unlock. The seal will unlock after completing the 15 Triumphs listed in the seal contents.
    • The Season 9: Challenges Triumph does not progress when a weekly challenge is completed.
    • The Season 9: Rituals Triumph does not progress when weekly Gambit bounties or Infamy ranks are earned.
    • The Season 9: Engagement Triumph does not progress when motes are banked.

As always, players encountering service issues should follow @BungieHelp on Twitter or monitor our support feed on help.bungie.net for the latest info. Players encountering other issues are encouraged to report them to the #Help forum.

Can we Just Call it a Tie?

Two creations were brought to my attention this week, both of which could win a "Movie of the Week" with no issue… if they were released on different weeks. We had studio-wide conversations over who should be given the winning title. It was a pretty tight call, but there can only be one.

Movie of the Week: Moon's Haunted

    Video Link

    Honorable Mention: Awaken

    Video Link

Cheers to each submission, as they'll both be taking home a Movie of the Week emblem. If you'd like a chance for the emblem, submit your video to the Community Creations page.

This is your second to last TWAB of the year. Holidays are on approach, and the blog will be taking a short hibernation as we ring in the New Year. But don't worry, we'll still have many people in-house, making sure things are running smoothly and ensuring you won't encounter any unexpected issues while baking your Dawning cookies. Network Operations, Player Support, Community, and more will be at the ready to lend a helping hand.

See you again next week. It's almost time to get that bread.

    Cheers,

edit: its amazing the amount of people who don't think Bungie needs to hear about the good decisions they make as they are 'what we deserve'. Considering the small errors we pick on in their work, we need to make sure they hear the good things as well.

Also - its just being a good person really.

Bungo Plz: Make Symmetry mention that it has Unstoppable Rounds

    Posted: 12 Dec 2019 09:44 AM PST

Symmetry's projectiles are considered unstoppable rounds when in Revolution mode, but it isn't mentioned in any of its perk descriptions. It will stagger even with 0 stacks of Revolution active.

Here's a video of me staggering an Unstoppable Champion twice using Symmetry

edit: changed "it is not mentioned" -> "it isn't mentioned" because it was bothering me. I'm glad I could tell some people about Symmetry's unstoppable rounds! It's a neat gun that feels a bit better knowing it can stagger champions.

Don’t dismantle/infuse the season pass armor you get after rank 36

    Posted: 12 Dec 2019 09:30 AM PST

The armor that you get after rank 36 in the premium pass has 64+ total stats and a void affinity. You know that it is hard to come by armor with high stats, if you've been grinding for it, so don't sleep on these rewards.

Edit: Images of the stats https://imgur.com/gallery/gXEOzmA

Edit 2: Proof that the stats aren't placeholders https://imgur.com/gallery/plFWMId

Edit 3: I see that many people are complaining about the stat spread, but keep in mind that these are guaranteed drops for a linear grind (XP), they aren't perfect but are a good start for us to start experimenting with the dawn mods using a decent armor roll without needing to grind specifically for those armor pieces.

Console performance has gone way down

    Posted: 12 Dec 2019 06:22 AM PST

It was bad before but since the launch of Season 9 performance on the PS4 has gone completely to shit. Just trying to open character and change the mod on an item takes forever. Once you get to the mod screen it lags so bad switching from mod to mod. There is not a problem on PC. Please Bungie, address the continued performance decrease on consoles.

Make masterworking a piece of armor change from a seasonal mod slot to a universal season mod slot

    Posted: 12 Dec 2019 05:46 AM PST

I was scrolling through reddit and just saw a post about how masterworking armor needs to be more relevant and another post about how seasonal armor mod slot mods are bad. I think by masterworking armor it would be a great way to allow for masterworking armor to be more beneficial and would allow for a universal seasonal mod slot. Plus it will keep old gear and new gear relevant. On another note, I would also like to mention we need a better way to grind for the new masterwork materials besides nightfalls.

Edit - thank you for the silver. I'm glad you like my idea. 😊

Edit - I want to clarify that I am talking about the farthest right mod socket. A example of mods in this mod socket are the nightmare mods and raid mods. The mods that come from the artifact are NOT in the same mod socket spot that I talk about. Mods in the artifact that are meant for armor go in the general mod slot section.

The posts that sparked my idea

[Spoiler] Corridors of Time is the Infinite Forest we always wanted (incl. hudless screenshots)

    Posted: 12 Dec 2019 07:43 AM PST

... and it would be a crime if this space and artwork isn't used beyond this season.

Think back to the vision many had for the Infinite Forest, as a randomly generated dungeon space combined with unique and engaging play spaces that really made you feel like you were travelling through time and space. While the Infinite Forest tried to check those boxes on paper, the design unfortunately undercut both the atmosphere and the replay-ability.

The node system in the Corridors of Time though, and the fantastic unique set pieces, really capture that feeling. I really hope that A) the missions are kept, at a bare minimum, as daily story missions after this season so new players can enjoy them, and B) That this entire construct remains in some form. Unlike the Infinite Forest, the possibilities here really are endless. We may not be able to save anyone else, but the visit in the first mission didn't change time, it completed the perfect paradox loop, so I assume there is something more unique to next week's mission that satisfies the "one off" nature of saving Saint-14. So more visits like that should be possible. Who knows the battles we've fought already (or will fight in the far future) that we just don't know about ;)

I couldn't help myself and even on the first playthrough I got camera happy and took way longer than necessary to play through. Here are some 4K, wallpaper-ready hudless screenshots of the nodes taken on the Xbox One X. It looks like the quest can be picked up on multiple characters, so I plan to replay on PC and take more where I can change the FoV ("Change lenses" ;) )

You can get 4 - 7 resource material per run at the Olympus Descent area on Mars for the 30 Resource Material Bounty

    Posted: 12 Dec 2019 04:43 AM PST

Instead of running around the huge EDZ/Mars sandbox looking hard for resource material, the Olympus Descent is very Linear in terms of traversal. There is a linear cave and a linear open area

Start from the Glacial Drift and head into Olympus Descent, theres easily 3- 4 nodes in the cave and when you come out of the cave theres usually 1 node at the end of the open area(the starting point of the warmind mission), if you decide to turn around and head back to glacial drift you can find another 2 - 3 nodes already spawned back.

*Potential Spoilers* Info from the Destiny API shows there will be a fifth obelisk with important unique features

    Posted: 12 Dec 2019 10:21 AM PST

Just two more obelisks and I could have had a good "seventh column" joke... oh well.

Out of curiosity, I went to Destiny Data Explorer to check what future improvements the obelisks may provide, and learned a bit more information than I expected to.

There will be a centralized obelisk in the Tower that acts as a vendor.

Searching DDE for "obelisk" returned the four that we know about (Tangled Shore, Mars, EDZ, Nessus) as well as one in the Tower that effectively controls all functions of all planetary obelisks (reference the "Categories" tab of data at the link above):

    • Cash in your Polarized Fractaline currency from the Tower obelisk to rank up any planetary obelisk you've already fully unlocked.
    • Acquire Timelost Weapon bounties from all planetary obelisks, as well as three unique to the Tower obelisk:
      • Trophy Hunter: Void energy sniper rifle (DDE, Light.gg)
      • Pyroclastic Flow: Solar heavy rocket launcher (DDE, Light.gg)
      • Perfect Paradox: Kinetic shotgun (DDE, Light.gg)
    • Acquire weekly obelisk bounties from across the system.

In order to use the Tower obelisk as a central hub, you'll need to connect each planetary obelisk to the Tower obelisk by completing a short quest that requires you to complete a Timelost Weapon bounty from that obelisk (see this from DDE).

In addition to allowing you to effectively manage all obelisks from one central location, the Tower obelisk will sell three consumable items:

    • Timelost Friends: Increases progression of timelost weapon bounties by 10% for 4 hours. (DDE, Light.gg)
    • Fractaline Skimmer: Drastically increases the chance to earn Polarized Fractaline from playlist activities. Active until triggered. Maximum purchase is six per week, per account. (DDE, Light.gg)
    • Light-Fused Fractaline: Crystalline structures fused with Light as the byproduct of the ongoing Empyrean Restoration effort. Used to increase the Resonance Rank of any obelisk by one full level during Season 9! (DDE, Light.gg)

You'll be able to passively generate Polarized Fractaline on a weekly basis.

The Tower obelisk will allow you to collect "Generated Polarized Fractaline", which reads:

Gather the Polarized Fractaline generated by the Tower Obelisk from the prior week. Generate greater quantities by repairing components of this obelisk and increasing the Resonance Ranks of the other obelisks."

This means you may want to invest all your available Polarized Fractaline in obelisk ranks by the end of every week so that you can generate the greatest amount possible through this passive method. This sounds akin to the chests on the Nessus barge during Season of Opulence which allowed you some guaranteed seasonal currency each week.

The Tower Obelisk will also help you speed up your Timelost Weapon bounties.

In addition to the buff "Timelost Friends" you get from the consumable, there is something called "Empyrean Donation" which reads:

Donate Polarized Fractaline to aid in the Empyrean Restoration effort. Donating to the effort progresses all held Timelost Weapon bounties.

It sounds like once you've got a good passive stream of Fractaline set up, this will be a primary currency sink to help your weapon roll hunts. You'll want to increase your planetary obelisks to max level (or beyond if allowed, not sure yet) in order to hold the most Timelost Weapon bounties at once before purchasing this item. Speaking of "max level" for planetary obelisks...

My best guess is that getting any planetary obelisk to level 11 unlocks all upgrades.

Looking at the Tangled Shore obelisk for example, at its DDE page there's a list of "failureStrings" which are those notes you see on some upgrades saying that a certain resonance is required before you can unlock them. Among all the potential failure strings for the planetary obelisks, they max out at "Requires Resonance Rank 11".

Some quick math - each Resonance rank requires 200 Fractaline to rank up. That's 2,200 Fractaline per obelisk, or 8,800 for all four planetary ones. However, among the "failure strings" for the Tower obelisk, there are still resonance levels that max out at "Requires Resonance Rank 5". Another 5 unlocks adds 1,000 Fractaline, so the total investment of Fractaline needed to unlock everything from all 5 obelisks might be 9,800. I haven't done the math on how long it might take to get all that, but with weekly bounties from each obelisk, multiple characters, etc, it's probably still several weeks, which is fine!

    - - - -

Hooray for APIs and for centralized hubs! I saw this post thanking Bungie for putting the obelisks right next to landing pads, and this info adds to that praise. Now we don't even need to waste time on multiple zone loads to manage these obelisks. Thank you, Bungie!

    Happy Season of Dawn, everyone!

You get credit for airborn kills while riding the elevator in the Scarlet Keep strike.

I know 50 airborn kills isn't a lot but you can easily get 50 during one run through this strike for the Vanguard ritual weapon.

You know what baffles me. Every season there are pinnacle/ritual weapons. To acquire said weapons, you have to get kills with that weapon's type. And yet, some people's first thought is to complain and/or ask for nerfs

    Posted: 12 Dec 2019 05:45 PM PST

Let's look at the past few crucible seasons...

Season 5. Grenade Launchers everywhere. One hit killed? Let's ask for a nerf.

Season 7. Snipers holding down lanes. Nerf.

Season 8. Why is everyone using a Scout? They're too good let's ask for a nerf.

Sesson 9. Arbalest. All I've seen this season is Arbalest when it's only been 2 days. Too much. Nerf.

Season 10.... who knows. Maybe it'll be a sidearm. Then oh no. Sidearms are too strong. You guessed it. Time to ask for a nerf.

Just because you see a huge influx of a certain weapon, doesn't mean it's the new next best thing. Or it's overpowered. Or it needs a nerf. It's people trying to get their shit done with the best available. So suck it up and deal with it. Or don't and complain about Arbalest this season and whatever next season.

Make bright engrams drop at every level up.

    Posted: 12 Dec 2019 12:12 PM PST

As someone who started a new account moving to PC at the beginning of Season of Opulence, it's pretty frustrating to see that we have the opportunity to get new cosmetics, but can't possibly get it all. To give you some perspective, I only wanted one item from the bright engram last season; the Ace ornament. I nearly got to season rank 200, and still didn't get it.

What I don't understand is why the engrams seem so limited. We can't really blame it on Eververse considering the fact that you can't even buy more than 5 bright engrams per season. If Bungie wanted us to pay instead of playing, they'd give us the option to buy as many as we want. Of course this isn't what I'm suggesting.

What I'm suggesting is that Bungie gives us a bright engram at every level. In the context of this season, this would mean that you'd be guaranteed to get everything after 152 levels, considering every item in the engram has duplicate protection.

Obviously, this would just be another reason to keep playing in a season, especially after you have all of the weapons you want + after you've reached tier 100 in your season pass.

Destiny 2: Shadowkeep - The Dawning Trailer

Here's a Nerf Flowchart you should use before calling for nerfs for specific weapons, weapon classes, or weapon perks.

    Posted: 12 Dec 2019 08:38 AM PST

I've been seeing WAY TOO MANY calls for nerfs on this subreddit since Tuesday. To me, most are completely biased and unjustified. Before downvoting or freaking out, follow the chart below. Meet me at the bottom.

    Nerf Flow Chart:

    • Step 1: Do you consider the weapon/weapon class/weapon perk[s] either over-powered or broken? If no, go to Step 2. If yes, go to Step 3. If you're thinking of Recluse, skip to Step 6.

    • Step 2: A nerf is not warranted...yet. Instead, recommend buffing under-powered alternatives as a solution. Scroll down to the Arbalest example, if you'd like.

    • Step 3: Do you believe the nerf is warranted due to an increase in damage output of the weapon/weapon class/weapon perk[s] via a recent Sandbox update? If yes, go to Step 4. If no, go to Step 5.

    • Step 4: Do you believe the high usage of this weapon is due to a quest that requires the specific usage of said weapon/weapon class, aside from the damage buff? If yes, go to Step 6. If no, go to Step 7.

    What to recommend:

    • Step 5 - Slightly Buff Alternatives: If other weapons/weapon class[es] were specifically nerfed, hence increasing the overall effectiveness of this weapon as a result, a nerf is NOT WARRANTED. Instead, recommend a slight, reverse buff to the weapons/weapon class[es] that were potentially nerfed too much. Scroll down to the Arbalest example, if you'd like.

    • Step 6 - Slight Nerf: A nerf is not warranted...yet. The usage of this weapon/weapon class is heavily correlated to the high concentration of players attempting to complete the quest. The high usage will most likely be temporary in nature and will not heavily affect the sandbox in endgame/Crucible content in the long run. However, over time, if this weapon/weapon class feels like the only viable option in endgame content (i.e. Recluse in PvE, One-Eyed Mask in PvP), then a nerf adjustment may be warranted. Scroll down to the Arbalest example, if you'd like.

    • Step 7 - No Action Necessary: If the weapon/weapon class/weapon perk was buffed due to the under-performance of other weapons/weapon classes, a reverse nerf is not warranted. Instead, research how a slight nerf adjustment -- of far-lower severity -- would positively affect the sandbox. Scroll down to the Arbalest example, if you'd like.

Note: Hi, thanks for following the chart and meeting me at the bottom. Below is an example. Thoughts and feedback are welcome.

Example: Exotic Kinetic Linear Fusion Rifle, 'Arbalest'

    Recent Changes:

    • Received a precision damage buff of 20% in the Season of Dawn Sandbox update, along with all other LFRs (excluding Sleeper).

    • Significantly increased target acquisition at close-to-medium ranges

    Flow Process Conclusion:

    • If you believe the Arbalest needs a nerf, you'll end on Step 6, which encourages holding off on any nerfs until further research is done. Why? Because its difficult to determine if the high usage of Arbalest is due to a quest or how effective the weapon is outside of a quest due to the 20% damage increase.

    • If you call for a nerf, please use facts, numbers, and sound logic to back up your thoughts. Bungie tends to respond to posts of that nature, which would significantly help the effectiveness of your post.

If the community likes this post, I'll make a more official, in-depth version; along with another flowchart for armor/armor mods/exotic armor perks. Thanks!

Lowering Weapons mods for 500 glimmer was a great move! But why are seasonal mods still 5000? Intentional or Bugged?

    Posted: 12 Dec 2019 07:55 PM PST

I love being able to experiment with mods so much, but this just feels like it was forgotten or something

    Thx Vike

Give arbalest barrier rounds and osmosis as it’s catalyst

    Posted: 12 Dec 2019 03:26 AM PST

It doesn't have one yet, and it's useless in match game nightfalls, so make it so it can have an elemental damage to actually be able to deals with shields in those higher up activities using osmosis

Edit: yes I realized osmosis isn't too great of a perk, considering it would negate disruption break. Here's a couple of fixes instead of osmosis:

    1) Match game gets fixed: if arbalest worked against match game shields, I wouldn't even be adding osmosis as an option in the first place

    2) A perk that changes to the element of a shield while you're shooting/ADSing at it, and changes back to kinetic after the shield is broken so you can take advantage of disruption break

(Bungo plz just fix match game)

New Saint-14 Obelisk Weapons Glow Near Obelisk

    Posted: 12 Dec 2019 07:44 PM PST

    Video here

Was testing out the new Grenade Launcher when noticed the Light effect on the guns reacting to the Obelisk nearby. Thought it was a cool detail that adds some more character to the guns.
