    Corridors of Time Puzzle

    Posted: 20 Jan 2020 03:28 AM PST

Listen up, good people of the City! The Corridors of Time puzzle has been solved. Here are some quick references. Note that you must complete all the previous quests from Osiris before embarking upon this one. Heavy spoilers in the links below.

ELI5: Osiris has a new quest for you. This opens the Corridors of Time. All the Obelisks in the game world give codes that can be followed in the Corridors, leading to a Vault room that gives lore. Each of the 19 Vault rooms have a code, and those codes were assembled into a maze, which gave us a code, which led to an emblem in another Vault room. The emblem Vault room has its own codes, which were pieced together by thousands of Guardians to find the final code. Check the links below for more.

    Posts on r/DestinyTheGAme

    r/RaidSecrets Resources

The first 19 codes give lore. The "emblem code" gives... you guess it... an emblem. The final code solution starts an Exotic quest.

This post will function as the megathread for all discussion of the quest, the steps that were taken to complete it, and the rewards. All other posts on this topic will be removed while this megathread is active.

Destiny has been a series of missed opportunities since the launch of Shadowkeep

    Posted: 20 Jan 2020 02:09 PM PST

It seems that Bungie really does have these great ideas for their game, but does a very poor job in implementing them or rewarding us for the effort. With the Corridors of Time being the latest example, this was also the case with soloing the shattered throne at light level 1000 (remember that one). Both the CoT and the shattered throne were perfect opportunities to reward the players as a community in some kind of world changing, meaningful way... you know... like how you guys always talk about a forever changing world.

I know this is just another post in many, but seeing how Bungie really enjoys out feedback, just remember, you guys have great ideas, they are always just executed so poorly. These are the type of things that would turn your game on Steam from a 44% (current) rating, to a much higher score

Bungie, remember when you said legendaries shouldn't be easily better than their exotic counterparts? Yeah...a lot of exotics should have a barrior/unstoppable perk.

    Posted: 20 Jan 2020 04:53 PM PST

Most exotics that don't do great burst damage are trash compared to gameplay flexible legendaries.

A great example, the vow is an AMAZING hand cannon for barriers and decent burst damage.

Another great example, Izinagi and divinity = default high end activities build.

Some suggestions from me, give headlight, tarabah, skyburners oath, wavesplitter and borealis anti-barrior. Give symmetry, cold heart and merciless stagger.

Etc. Basically if the exotic weapon isn't often used, give it one of the 3 perks so they become more useful =). This would make them much more usable.

Why waste time on only new assets when you can quickly give old assets a tiny tweak people would love em for?

Raids should not drop low stat armor

    Posted: 20 Jan 2020 10:22 AM PST

For something where you get RNG loot once a week and considered to be a pinnacle activity, the drops should not have to still be at the mercy of stat RNG.

Grabbing a few samples of low stat raid armor from DIM

All of it should drop at a bracket of 58+. World drops seem to be somewhere around 48-54 average with a tiny chance for 55-60. Having done dozens of raids, I see the armor coming in at 56-60 on average with MORE of a chance to be under that than coming in over.

Counting all raid armor in my collections I have 89 pieces not including class items.

    • I have FOUR at 60+ (61, 61, 62, 62) = 4.5%
    • 11 at 59-60 = 12.4%
    • Most others are at 55-58 = 69.6%
    • 12 at 54 and under = 13.5%

Seeing how the season pass armor gave 64-66, this is literally not seen anywhere from the dozens of raids I've run. Not even considering the fact that those raids cannot slot seasonal armor or even capped from using other season mods (taken/fallen/levi mods)

At this point I'd rather go back to armor 1.0 so armor from all sources can be rewarding. Chance for high rolls of 62+ needs to be significantly increased, especially from an activity that can only be looted once a week. Have some sort of incentive to run other old raids too

The more successful Destiny is, the less it feels like Bungie understands and listens to the community.

    Posted: 20 Jan 2020 07:34 PM PST

Remember when the game was abandoned by the entire community? How attentive they were during that time? How much they wanted to please the community?

This quest wouldn't have had its reward on the roadmap back then, it would have been an extra surprise for the entire community.

I'm not sure who thought it would be ok to throw something on the roadmap for the 28th and then tie that to a quest/puzzle released on the 14th...but they clearly are out of touch with the community. The first thing everyone in my clan said was: "the reward better be good, because if not, no one will ever forget it".

Where are we now? Next time one of these community puzzles rolls around...it's going to far less exciting.

EDIT: apparently some of the old raids were done by VV...so excuse the following paragraph...I am keeping it here so comments make sense.

While we're talking about thing that have changed...what is the plan for raids? We knew when to expect raids over the past two years...now we have no communication. Raid team is a separately team...shouldn't be impacted by the loss of support studios. Some people only play the game for the raids.

I guess now would be as good a time as any to talk about how much I dislike the roadmap.

    Posted: 20 Jan 2020 03:54 AM PST

Just to get this out the way first- I actually like the reward from the Corridor's puzzle. It's nice lorewise and getting an exotic weapon is about what I was expecting the reward to be. The main reason people hate Bastion being the reward is that it was on the roadmap. Had it not been there, I don't think anyone would be disappointed.

Having a roadmap just ruins every surprise a season has. Can you imagine how less exciting Forsaken would have been if there was a roadmap, that revealed things like Shattered Throne, the Ascendant Challenges, Heroic Blind Well, before the expansion was even released? Being surprised by new things on login is much, much more interesting than what essentially feels like waiting for new content to drop.

The problem with Gambit isn't the gamemode - it's the players

    Posted: 20 Jan 2020 01:05 PM PST

I suppose to preface this by saying "yes, it's another rant thread, so come or go, idc". Just need to rant.

The problem with Gambit isn't how the gamemode is set up, it's the people you encounter playing it.

In every other mode, a skilled Guardian can mostly make a huge difference to his team.

3kdr slayer? Chances are he can clutch a Comp round or turn the tide playing 6v6 control.

Raids and Nightfalls can be clutched by that guy with the invis revive or Nighthawk on the boss at the right time.

But in Gambit, if your team is bad, you have to

    A) Invade and get kills
    B) Slay and bank motes
    C) Defeat blockers
    D) all while defending from the Invader

No one can do all of this at once without being Esoterickk or Baken.

Then, due to the steamrolling effect of missing the first invasion cycle or having your team fail to defeat the invader before losing ALL your motes, you get stuck in a situation like this: https://i.imgur.com/f00XV1K.jpg

Yes. We have 5 motes and their Primeval is 10 seconds away from being dead. And one of our team decides he's had enough and bails. I left shortly after.

Did you know that the stacks of "Primeval slayer" that build up give you a larger buff of damage the higher the stacks go?

For those unable to put 2 and 2 together, that means don't waste your fucking Golden Gun on the first damage phase.

I've seen people run past motes to carry on slaying, literally letting them time out and disappear because they ignore them. I've seen people RACE me to a group of 3 motes when I have 12 and they have none. Getting Massacre medals for Reckoner or banking 20 motes for the Collector is almost impossible because people are stupid.

You there, with the blue guns. I have glowing Red Invader armour on. This means you should give me priority on the portal because chances are I can win us the game.

You there, headless chicken man. I have glowing White Collector armour on. This means you should give me priority collecting motes because it's better for the team.

But the answer people give, and I can almost tl;dr this entire post, is "muh bounties". Which is the most frustrating thing in the entire game.

Bungie, it's time we had a talk about setting expectations with quests and your road map

    Posted: 20 Jan 2020 07:22 AM PST

    TL;DR at the bottom

There is a lot of talking going on right now about how the Corridors of Time quest has been a letdown since the reward is the Bastion quest. Which has been on the road map as a quest to be available on the 28th. While this issue is the current lynch-pin of the community's frustration at the moment, this problem is painfully chronic. So, I want to discuss what sort of problems the community has, some constructive criticisms, and some ways to go about this in the future.

Something has got to give with the road map. It's so heavy handed in some cases that it over-hypes what is really a minor event in the season (looking at you, Final Assault). Then, there are missions like the Saint 14 CoT missions that come out of the blue. The worst part about this is that the road map was literally just a lie. The Bastion was not available 1/28. It's available today, the 20th. I get that you didn't know how long it would take the community to figure this out, but if that's the case then don't be so descriptive and absolute with your dates.

It's essential to figure this out in the future. You've gotten plenty of feedback on what does and does not deserve a place on the road map. There are ways to go about advertising without spoiling: use some creative language to set an expectation without giving it away. I'll relate this to the Bastion quest in a second, but there's other examples too. Maybe give the Saint missions a place on the calendar but instead of "Save Saint 14 from Fallen/Martyr Mind", say "Help Osiris explore the Corridors of Time to rewrite history". Then you get the best of both worlds: advertising an event in the season to put on your calendar, and you set the expectation of the event without spoiling what it will be. Obviously you can't make the people that were sure it would be Gjallarhorn happy, but you can't win 'em all.

This quest has been contextualized as something entirely separate from the Bastion quest.

Historically speaking, the date on the road map for quests has been the day that a quest starts. This is true for literally every activity ever to be placed on the road map. So, the natural assumption to be made is that this activity is separate from the upcoming quest. I don't think it's the players fault that they assumed this was the case given the history of unannounced missions like Whisper and Zero Hour.

A post made earlier today by a disgruntled community member pretty succinctly articulated what this quest was like: It's like going to see a movie with a major plot twist in it, only to find out that the ending was spoiled in a trailer you two weeks before.

Which leads me back to another major point about marketing these things in the future: balancing the fine line between reigning in expectations, keeping the end result a mystery, and generating hype.

I think that having a sort of mystery around exotic quests is a pretty interesting idea. I also think that, from a marketing perspective, advertising content that comes with a DLC that you're trying to sell is a no-brainer. So, how do we effectively convey through a road map that exotic quests will be available at given intervals while also keeping a sense of mystery and discovery about them?

I think this quest was actually great, and would have been a memorable exotic quest if it wasn't spoiled by the road map. If the calendar had said something along the lines of "Explore the Corridors of Time to discover a hidden artifact" then the expectation would be that we get to map our way through the corridors. Something that the community has been wanting since we saved Saint. That way after 6 days of work to be greeted with an Exotic quest would be the cherry on top.

    TL;DR

Road map content should not run counter to the actual content availability, mystery can be preserved while still generating hype and keeping expectations in check. Road maps need to be reworked to better reflect what relevant content can be expected, and don't put blatantly wrong information on it.

What do you guys think Bungie can do better in the future to actually make this content rewarding and keep expectations realistic?

    Posted: 20 Jan 2020 01:25 AM PST

To complete the quest and receive the main reward (a Chronometric Weapon Core), run through the Corridors of Time using the following combination:

Clover, Diamond, Snake, Clover, Plus, Plus, Hex, Hex, Hex, Plus, Diamond, Plus, Snake, Diamond, Clover, Snake, Plus, Plus, Snake, Snake, Hex, Diamond, Clover, Plus, Diamond, Hex, Hex, Diamond, Plus, Diamond

After interacting with the grave inside the vault room, speak to Saint-14 in the tower, who will give you another quest which gives you the exotic Bastion fusion rifle at the end.

    Posted: 20 Jan 2020 08:18 AM PST

With the anti-climatic battle against the Undying Mind last season and now the incredibly lackluster reward for navigating the Corridors of Time, there is obviously a need for an in-person discussion with bungie on the future direction of Destiny 2. We can debate and discuss here till we're blue in the face but the cookie cutter replies we've been getting are less than worthless. There needs to be a clear, open, and transparent way to deliver our feedback on an increasingly dissapointing season pass straight to the people who made it.

I’m convinced now that Bungie is using most of their resources on Destiny 3 or whatever they choose to call it

    Posted: 20 Jan 2020 07:00 PM PST

Seems like our "feedback" is falling on deaf ears as it takes months to get any meaningful fix for things. Where's our Solstice ornaments at?Seasons are now just drawn out time-gated events that leave no lasting impact. Crucible hasn't gotten any love in how long now? Sandbox changes are once a season at most. Trials and Factions are pretty much dead now. Eververse is as predatory as it's ever been.

Sorry for being a negative Nancy but this is just how it is now. Hopefully whatever they have after Destiny 2 will more than make up for what Destiny 2 has become.

Hes an army vet who recently got out of the hospital for an issue I wont disclose, but it deafened him ( for now. ).but hes living with me and well, after watching me play the obscene amount I play he wanted to give it a try.

Using discord we managed to get him through his first raid since his hearing loss =). It seems like his mood is dramatically improved, because he was worried he wouldn't be able to enjoy online gaming.

Discord and its toolkit can do almost anything if you are willing to experiment with said toolkit to create quick easy hotkeys.

If any of you have questions ( whether you are a deaf player or not.) He or I can answer them =).

Bungie, stop being scared of making good exotics

    Posted: 20 Jan 2020 07:40 PM PST

The majority of new exotics we've gotten have largely been nothing more than something worth getting to check a box off to say you have it. Stop making Heavy Exotics unless they are going to be useful for DPS.

Stop being scared of making exotics that out dps the ones we currently have. What is the point of putting in the work to make a completely unique gun only to have it serve no purpose in the game?

A lot of the same goes for armor. It's boring that each class basically only has one to go armor piece to go with each subclass.

Discussion on the Decline of Rewarding Content

    Posted: 20 Jan 2020 04:35 AM PST

I'm certainly not alone with the thought that the reward for the CoT puzzle was less than sufficient/satisfying. However when I look at the past rewards we have received in the past few seasons I can't help but think rewarding content is going down hill rapidly.

Pinnacle Changes The removal or replacement of pinnacle weapons with rituals was a poor attempt to make unique weapons more accessible to everyone. However the result was mediocre weapons at best (exception Randys IMO) with little to no challenge.

Potential Fix: Bring back Pinnacles but rework the unique perks to make the unique perk directly benefit the mode it was sourced from. This would resolve the issue of PVP pinnacles (Recluse & MT) rolling every mode from raids to gambit to crucible. Then increase the grind to something similar to Recluse or even Revoker. Especially now that achieving a 2100+ glory rank can happen quite easily.

Stat Rolls: Bungie I believe have stated that high stats rolls (63+) can drop from anywhere but I don't have much faith in that. How is it believed that running the same raid every week is going to produce a rewarding and refreshing experience. Potential Fix: Rotate the raids and remove the "imaginary" cap on stat rolls in other activities.

Challenging Content: There's currently little to no challenging content in the game that requires a high light level or team coordination. It's also especially disheartening to bother grinding for raid titles when next season the content will be significantly easier as you will be over leveled. This point is probably the most disconnected from community consensus I believe but titles I feel should feel special and require effort regardless of the season or light level.

Potential Fix: Have every mode include 2 difficulties: * Release LL: Raid is set to the Light Level of the release and can be used to grind out missing armour weapons * Scaled LL: Scaled to the hard cap of the season (EG: 970) which can be used for high stat rolls and triumphs Side Note: I hope the upcoming Sundial Boss is at 980 at least because 950 is a joke of a recommended for the main "new" mode to the season.

Strike Exclusive Content: Beating a dead horse here but the fact that the newest strikes don't even include an emblem but continue to be used in Ordeals is just lazy. I'm sure I'm skipping over a lot of bad strike QoL things in D1 with these rose tinted glasses on but boy did it feel good to get that unique armour in D1 Strikes. Or to finally get that god roll Imago after farming for days.

Potential Fix: Design more for Strikes instead of Eververse. I would happily buy cosmetics if more was seen in the game but I'll refuse to support this microtransaction train. I'd also prefer to pay double for the season if it meant no more legacy engrams or "screw veteran engrams" would be present.

Crucible Beating a dead horse again but trials. There is no reward to playing comp after Unbroken. This seasons ritual requires 1000 glory, at least half of any ritual/pinnacle prior which is already ridiculous.

Potential Fix: Add Trials or add more for 5500 or more than 3 seasons of unbroken.

The past week has been one of the most exciting times in the franchise and its a shame that it will be overshadowed by a reward that was revealed at the beginning of the season and was scheduled to release in 1.5 weeks time. I only hope that they will reveal a new exotic to replace Bastion but I'm certainly keeping my hopes down because currently that's how the reward quality are going.

So please reconsider your contents rewards because I'm exhausted of getting low stat rolls on the same old revised armour sets and weapons, when they still can't beat rewarding content from a few seasons back.

Would love to hear further suggestions or if people think any of the above falls under the elitist/overplayed banner.

EDIT: Trying to learn how to format :)

Here's a thought: Can weapon trackers track both track both PvE and PVP kills regardless of which we display?

    Posted: 20 Jan 2020 10:28 AM PST

I feel like there's a quality of life update that can be administered since I always find myself switching which tracker is up while going in and out of the crucible.

Why can't the masterworked weapons just track both types of activity kills with the gun and allow us to freely switch our display whenever we want?

“A house divided against itself cannot stand.” - Abraham Lincoln”

    Posted: 20 Jan 2020 03:53 PM PST

This community puzzle has shown a problem in the Destiny community: the lack of transparency and the uneven balance of power between the streamers and the ordinary player. This letter is written by people that were moderators and participants in multiple discords partaking in solving this puzzle. The majority of the community is expected to join streams, have their map piece screenshotted, then to leave. A smaller group of players, like us, joined early enough to either start servers of our own or become "role defined" members of other servers.

The average experience for community members was not this. We have seen players that wanted to be involved but could not because they didn't think they could contribute meaningfully. This thought is due to a lack of community communication at our local discords level, to the streamer level, all the way to Bungie's community management.

This puzzle is not content for the majority of people (source: https://twitter.com/DestinLegarie/status/1218327504114479104?s=19), and that is ok.

These types of puzzles are not for everyone in the community. Here is what the primary issue was: People that wanted to get involved in this puzzle have minimal options due to the fact there is no united space for the community to gather information and work as one. Data was not accessible for most because the streamers wanted to be "first," slowing progress and hobbling the majority of the community.

Meanwhile, the streamers are not playing the game, but sitting there filling out spreadsheets, collecting data. Because the streamers had many viewers, they had access to more data. They refused to share up to date data with the at large community, then accused others in the community of "data-shopping" (requesting data and not sharing theirs). What we mean by not sharing the data is not posting the data in a usable form. Technically the information is shown on stream, but having someone watch each stream and transcribe their data onto other sheets is unreasonable.

Your average player Bob Smith that logs on and plays the game will not see what has gone on to solve this puzzle. The individual player alone could figure out and finish the first part alone; The second part for people to work together on to complete. A community manager tweeted out this was a community event; however, at the time, it didn't feel like it was.

One main problem is the Discord hierarchy and roles within a server. In most discords, the data that is collected is privatized or hidden and only updated every 4-8 hours. It is almost IMPOSSIBLE to get access to the spreadsheets from other discords without annoying someone and risk being banned/ blacklisted. If there is not a streamer in for example, in the role defined voice chats, no one knew what was happening. If someone asked who is making the map, the answer was the map creators. People were given the corridor manager role that had not contributed to the primary data sets only because they were there at the right time.

So, those are the problems, so what are the solutions? There are multiple solutions, that can be implemented on multiple levels,

    • Have people in the community whose only jobs are making sure everyone is on the same page, and making sure everyone has access to what they need.
    • Having Bungie create and maintain websites for data collection, with the data being free to access to all.
    • Making the community aware that the puzzle/event is exactly that, something that is meant to be worked on together with no competitive side to it.

The community as a whole had varying ways in which they could contribute to the effort (image submission, transcription, verification, dupe checking, map generation), and not everyone had the same desire to participate. But in the process of creating the tools that would allow the community to contribute, a logistical hierarchy emerged that held at arm's length those who wanted to help more than merely submitting an image of their code or joining a streamer to have their code recorded. There is no one directly to blame for this as an effort of this size needs some form of organization/management; nonetheless, there were many people who felt they were being ignored or dismissed as non-essential.

The crux of the issue is this: Bungie trusted the community to come together and solve this puzzle, and we ALL failed. This has been a massive clusterfuck of egos and misinformation that has caused this to surface. Until we get together and solve these community issues, Bungie should not create more puzzles like this because they divide the Destiny player base and makes the community worse.

Please make it easier to grind for Black Armory frames

    Posted: 20 Jan 2020 05:51 AM PST

So everyone here probably farmed at least one Black Armory frame, right?

Nowdays, the Menagerie will reward you three weapons upon the first completion of the week - two afterwards. The Sundial can potentially reward you up to four weapons per run. You can run around carrying four timelost weapon frames if you so desire, and there's both the Obelisks and items to reduce the time you spend on those.

Meanwhile, Black Armory frames still come off as extremely grindy. You can only get 2 differente weapons a week per character. The subsequent ones require you to either grind bounties - which will give you five Modulus Reports a day - or to sit in the forges to keep grinding. You can only carry a single one at a time. And each frame will give you a single copy - two if it happens to be Bergusia day and you get lucky with a curated roll.

And even after all this time, Black Armory still have super relevant weapons. Kindled Orchid is probably the most versatile 140 hand cannon in the game. Hammerhead is still meta to this day. Ringing Nail is a PVE beast, Spiteful Fang is the fastest draw outta lightweight bows. I could go on. The thing is, farming Black Armory weapons is way too grindy.

So here's my suggestion: Make them more similar to timelost weapon frames and the Altars of Sorrow - which I believe were both 2 great steps in the right direction

    • Remove the 2 frames per character weekly limit
    • Increase the weapon frame limit to 4, or make it so that each frame drops more weapons
    • Either increase the Modulus Report limit beyond 15, or reduce the Modulus Report cost on each weapon frame
    • Increase the Modulus Report drop on both bounties and forges to something around 4 or 5, or take a page from Altars of Sorrow and make the glowing enemies inside the forges drop them and get rid of the bounties altogether - more on this one above
    • Either get rid of Ballistic Logs, or make them akin to the first Menagerie completion, dropping an additional weapon once you use them. If keeping, keep the curated rolls to them so they have some form of utility, but make it so that they can drop everywhere. There's no point in having Ballistic Logs if their main utility only comes once every 4 days.
    • Make the objectives in the frames themselves more varied akin to timelost frames, or even integrate some of the ones in the bounties themselves, power weapon kills, kill inside the forges, and so on - which still encourages being inside the forges but adds more variety to it.
    • Additionally, and that's more of a pet peeve of mine, increase the drop rate of Black Armory prototypes, or make them a guaranteed drop each run - they're fantastic weapons (been in love with Swift Ride ever since I've dropped one), but you rarely see any because they rarely even drop.

Those are my suggestions for now. If anyone have more, drop them down below! We could always use some good ideas for revitalizing content.

    Edit: misspelling, typos.

Ever since shadowkeep, legendary armor is now just another blue drop

    Posted: 20 Jan 2020 06:57 PM PST

It's been really bugging me lately. I used to like to inspect armor and pick up unique rolls before armor 2.0 dropped, but now not so much, and only check the base stat score. Now, don't get me wrong, I really like the new armor system but it seems to make almost every armor drop just like a blue drop. All I do now is just check the base stat score and if its below high 50 somethingish I'll just dismantle it without question. What's bugging me is that in the old system I used to think to myself "would this be good in x situation or in x mode?", if the answer was yes I'd keep it. Now its just "is it below 60?"... I'm sure there are many other people out there that have posted similar concerns but I just wanted to vent for a minute, I kinda miss the old days :`(

Going forward, Exotics should always come with Champion Mods Built In

    Posted: 20 Jan 2020 04:49 PM PST

Avoiding my disappointment in Bastion being the reward for the puzzle, it is truly disappointing that Bastion doesn't have anti-barrier built in. The gun was made as an anti-shield weapon, why the hell would it not have anti-barrier? I love the champion system, but it is baffling to me that you would release new exotics alongside this new content and not have them be useful in said content.
