State of the Subreddit: Beyond the Sub

    Posted: 10 Oct 2020 03:40 PM PDT

    Greetings Guardians

A year has passed since the last SotS, and Beyond Light is a month away. So we figured it's probably about time that we dusted off the old microphone. As the game continues to grow and evolve, it's important that we as a community grow and evolve with it. Here's what's up.

    Same Rules, Different Names

We begin today with a look at our new ruleset. We've reorganised how we structure our rules in the hopes that they're easier to understand and will make enforcement clearer.

We recommend reading through the updated rules wiki for a thorough overview of the new rule organization. But what you need to know right now is that we've now grouped our rules by enforcement. We have three new rules, each born out of the ashes of our older ones.

However here is a brief overview of these new rules:

    • Rule 2: Unsuitable Content - Posts that are subject to removal at the moderators' discretion include: retired suggestions, not directly related personal stories, recent reposts, low-effort/low-quality posts, loot posts or posts not directly related to Destiny.
    • Rule 3: Misplaced Content - Posts that have a better place elsewhere. Examples include LFG posts, memes, content relating to an Active Megathread or Technical Issues.
    • Rule 4: Marginal Content - Posts that are OK but need to be reposted or reflaired, examples include posts with spoilers in the title, clickbait titles, "Does Anyone Else" posts or posts with title tags.

    Our basically philosophy is this;

If your post is removed under the new Rule 2, that is the mod team indicating to you that your content is not fit for the subreddit. This includes loot posts, retired suggestions, recent reposts etc.

The new Rule 3 is the team indicating to you that while your post isn't fit as a post on DTG, there is a home for its content. This can be off in another subreddit like LFG posts in /r/fireteams, or simply as a comment under an active Megathread on the front page.

Rule 4 is the mod team indicating to you that your content is fine outside of a small issue preventing it from being approved. For example, if you have a bad title (like clickbait or a spoiler), we'd ask you to repost with a better one. Or if you include an off-topic or otherwise rulebreaking edit in your post, we'd temporarily remove the post until changes were made.

Finally, the old Rules 4 & 5 haven't changed, but they've been renumbered as Rules 5 & 6, respectively. Rules 1 & 7 remain unchanged, though we have recently re-evaluated our enforcement policies for them (more on that below).

We will be available in the comments for any questions about these changes, we will be transitioning the rules over as the SOTS is posted!

    Rule 1 & You: Warnings & Bans

This community has grown by leaps and bounds in recent years. And naturally, there's been a steady uptick in rule-breaks, as is inevitable with so many people in one (internet) place. Most of the community members are upstanding Guardians and community members, and when it comes to violations of Rule 1, we generally try to give everyone the benefit of the doubt. When someone's passionate about something (and if you're here, you're definitely passionate about Destiny), it can be easy to lose sight of the line between incivility and friendly but impassioned discourse.

We've always given rule-breakers plenty of warnings (both with and without temporary bans attached) to provide an opportunity learn the rules and continue to engage with others on the subreddit. Nevertheless, if someone is regularly breaking Rule 1 and being consistently rude and insulting to other players, this community is not for them. We've accelerated the enforcement to handle those extreme cases in a more timely manner.

Simply put, if member of the sub continuously acts out and attacks other members of the sub, we'll show them the door somewhat sooner than we would have in the past. Thank you all in advance for your understanding in this regard.

    The Great Moderator Search

Bungie Plz: Worn Out Topics & Ancient Suggestions

The Bungie Plz list was introduced nearly 5 years ago, and serves as our sub's version of a worn-out topic list. Users can request a oft-repeated suggestion topic be added to the list. If that topic fits a specific set of criteria, it's added to the list, and that topic is retired. The Bungie Plz was created in response to users' concerns that still apply today: certain popular suggestions tend to be highly upvoted and are repeated often enough that they can drown out discussions of other aspects of this vast and complex franchise.

Over the years, a total of 163 topics have been added to the Bungie Plz, and 82 of those topics have been partially or fully addressed by Bungie (with a good number more slated for Beyond Light). Though the Bungie Plz is not a wish-list, it's actively monitored by Bungie's community managers. Some requests were fulfilled weeks after their induction, others (like Transmog) have taken years to address. Whether a topic is on the Bungie Plz or not doesn't appear to have a significant on how long it takes Bungie to address it (if they address it at all). While some Bungie Plz topics have been on there for years, some topics that aren't on the Bungie Plz (Sentinel hit-detection, for example) have also yet to be addressed.

Overall, we feel that the Bungie Plz is a success. However, there's always ways for us to be better. Here are a couple things we're trying, and we welcome the community's feedback on them:

The Bungie Plz & Hot Topics

The first change we're making is a simple one, but it should prevent the Bungie Plz from gobbling up important, "hot topic" issues. Previously, at least one of the examples included in a Bungie Plz submission had to be a minimum of 5 days old. Going forward, for a topic to qualify for the Bungie Plz, one topic must be at least 30 days old. The Bungie Plz is for topics that have been beat to death, beyond the point of productive discussion. Five days was clearly not enough for that.

    Sunday Plz: Resurrecting Old Topics

Even after a topic has been beat to death, the game continues to evolve, and that might change the context of a retired suggestion (Transmog, for example). To address this, we are trying out a new weekly thread, called the Sunday Plz. If the trial run goes well, then every Sunday we will post a new megathread for an old topic on the Bungie Plz.

    User Flairs

    AKA how to look frabjous.

We are always adding new user flairs to the subreddit's selection. We even have a few Beyond Light flairs already! To choose a flair, head on over to https://destinyreddit.com/flair, login with your reddit account and choose the flair you want. Image flairs are not supported on the new redesign (either opt out or use old.reddit.com) or mobile, but the text flair appears on both. Thus we have the option to customize both for the subreddit.

If you don't want to scroll through our massive list, you can use the search bar to quickly find your favorite new Beyond Light look:

    Stasis Flairs Trailer Flairs
    Glacial Quake Super Europa Location
Silence And Squall Super Eris On Europa
Winter's Wrath Super Drifter Beyond Light 1
Behemoth Subclass Drifter Beyond Light 2
Revenant Subclass Eris Beyond Light 1
Shadebinder Subclass Eris Beyond Light 2
Behemoth Titan Exo Stranger Beyond Light
    Revenant Hunter
    Shadebinder Warlock

    The Last Word

A lot has happened in the last year. Last December, this subreddit turned 7 years old. This time last year, we'd just passed 1 million subs. And not long ago, we cruised past 1.8 million. The Destiny we know and love continues to evolve, and so does this wonderful and sometimes perplexing little corner of the internet. Whatever fate awaits us on Europa, it's clear that the community is both alive and thriving.

    Stay frosty stasis-y Guardians,

    The DTG Mod team <3

Please make armor stats be on a gradient. Sucks that a 10 stat is the same as a 19

    Posted: 10 Oct 2020 11:02 AM PDT

I think a huge QOL improvement would be armor stat effects were on a gradient instead of every 10. I hear a lot about only good armor is 60+, but depending on the distribution it could be no different than a 50 stat roll.

And I get that you can combine armor stats to get to overall, but that still doesn't address the issue.

We've all had a stat that was at 89 added up and it sucks. Especially to know you have to use a +10 armor mod which gives exact same bonus if you just had +1 anywhere else.

If you get ANY Braytech Werewolf roll from the Haunted Forest, you'll unlock the curated roll on your collections.

    Posted: 10 Oct 2020 10:28 AM PDT

Just a small tip for anyone wanting to get a decent roll on the weapon. The curated is one of the best rolls this amazing weapon can get.

Edit: I'm gonna get hate for this, but to anyone saying "450s ArE sHiT", are you familiar with the concept of having fun without following the meta? It's a fun weapon to use, that's it, it doesn't excell in a lot of aspects but it's good enough to be fun and usable. You don't have to melt everything in a 50m radius to enjoy the game.

Edit 2: I just got my first Horror Story and can confirm the same goes for that gun too, you can get the curated roll through collections

So Bungie really said "Grind those mods/armor sets" only to rework/remove mods and rework raid armor in season 12.

    Posted: 10 Oct 2020 01:33 PM PDT

Moments of Triumphs really was a good time, giving most of it's focus on the raids. But since the raids were going away, we all grinded out the mods for the upcoming season. Now they'll be useless outside of their respective raid. This includes mods like Taken Spec, which was very useful in the Prophecy dungeon. Some changes however, were called for. Meaning that certain mods were made more effective rather than equipping two of the same mid to see a fraction of a difference.

When season 12 arrives, you'll need to chase down your raid set again so that you can get the new mod slot for the raids.

So many of you really won't be happy with events unless you can complete all it's triumphs in 20mins huh?

    Posted: 10 Oct 2020 05:31 AM PDT

It's a event that lasts weeks. It's been like 4 days.

I'm ready to get the hate

Edit: turned into shaxx when I say this after a whole like "What? What? How!?" guess many of you aren't mad

Edit: clarity. I made this post after 2 buffs went in place and saw the top posts were people asking for another buff. I didn't play till the second buff came in and knocked the full thing out in one evening. That is when I made this post.

In the firewall (no matchmaking) version of the haunted forest you can AFK for 15 minutes without being kicked to open the 5 cipher chests!

    Posted: 10 Oct 2020 01:37 PM PDT

This is very useful for anyone who doesnt actually want to spend the 20+ minutes actually grinding the haunted forest to open your chests for the triumphs. Please be sure to do this using the no matchmaking version of the event so you arent causing your random teammates any grief!

EDIT: from what I have been experiencing you have about 10 minutes before you get kicked for inactivity. So you may want to come back after 6 or so minutes and move for a second just in case.

Found out that in The Corrupted, the elevator is stationary.

    Posted: 10 Oct 2020 06:20 PM PDT

    Title.

It's interesting that the walls move upwards, while the elevator remains in place. It's a neat optical illusion, and makes sure there isn't any weird gravity stuff.

i wish the skeletal armor in Eververse was thrown into the chests at the end of the Haunted Forest

    Posted: 10 Oct 2020 11:11 AM PDT

would be a good save of 15 bucks (edit: or 6k bright dust) and have a reason to continue grinding cypher decoders and keep us in the event, oh well

i know they put in bright dust as a reward for repeatable bounties to be able to buy it eventually, but personally id rather do an actual activity for my loot than grind bounties to buy it from Eververse :(

Today, October 11th 2020 marks the longest time between raids in Destiny history.

    Posted: 10 Oct 2020 09:09 PM PDT

Garden of Salvation came out on 10/5/19, or 372 days ago.

Kings Fall and Wrath of the Machine were separated by 371 days.

Wrath and Leviathan were separated by 355 days.

By the time Beyond Light is released on 11/10/20 it will have been 403 days since the last raid. I hope we find out the date soon so I can make sure I'm free that day.

Go find all the Ghost Scans from all the Destinations (Made Easy!)

    Posted: 10 Oct 2020 01:14 PM PDT

I just got done scanning my 161st, and final, ghost scan. The lore you can hear from all of them is inaccessible anywhere else in the game, and it ranges from funny quips, to some real background about past, present, and future events. You've got about a month to finish them. Some are in strikes, and some are "locked" inside rotating missions (Fury on Io cough cough YouTube cough map glitch cough), but you can get to all of them, easily, within this timeframe. It is a really worthwhile experience for lore junkies (where my Chroniclers at?) and especially for Kinderguardians, or if you've just run out of things to do and want a fun, novel Destiny experience while you wait for November 10.

What? Don't have time to search for all of the scans? Braytech.org has you covered! Simply login with your Bungie.net profile, and voila. There are checklists and maps for everything, from Ghost Scans to Savathun's Eyes, and more. It'll even show you all the ones you don't have.

Go explore this amazing world one more time before it's ripped apart.

It was fun for me, and I think it'll be fun for you, too.

Is Destiny basically a medieval game of knights but in the future?

    Posted: 10 Oct 2020 02:55 AM PDT

From an outsider's perspective, it sure looks like it. Magic knights (Titans), mages (Warlocks), and rogues (Hunters) fighting criminals, the Roman Empire, liches, cultists, and the forces of evil.

The emphasis seems more to be on the magic of the Light than on technology, since a lot was lost in the Collapse. Almost everyone that fights has "paracausal" (read: magic) abilities - you need them to fight the Dark.

Most of the enemy factions are a match for enemies that would be in a medieval setting, as I put before. The Fallen are basically bandits/pirates, the Cabal are the Roman Empire, the Hive are zombies and liches, the Vex are cultists, and the Taken are the general forces of evil.

What do you think? The games basically seem to be in a medieval setting, but put into the future.

Decent summoner acquired, now back to refusing to play trials for the rest of eternity

    Posted: 10 Oct 2020 11:14 AM PDT

Spent a about an hour playing trials for the first time since trials of the nine. Completed the bounty, got a shit rolled summoner. Grinded out enough tokens for a rank up package. Got a decent role with dynamic sway and elemental capacitor. It's good enough for me so now I am returning to not giving a fuck about trials and going on with my life.

Display all Seal Pins on your Emblem as Stat Tracker option. Mockup

    Posted: 10 Oct 2020 01:54 PM PDT

    https://i.imgur.com/PkR7UvK.jpg

Always found it counterintuitive how seals/pins are designed to be collectable. But you can only wear one title.

But what if you could wear these pins on your emblem?! Bungie please under stat trackers include an option to display the seals like the mockup!

Maybe there will be scaling issues, they could let us pick up to 10 to display. Or alternative display all and scale down.

TIL that there are still people out there playing Destiny without using Ishtar Commander...

    Posted: 10 Oct 2020 04:20 AM PDT

At this point I can't even imagine being able to play Destiny properly without Ishtar Commander.

I was running Prophecy when we asked this random LFG Hunter to put his Anarchy on.

He said he didn't have it on him and asked us to wait for him to get back from the Tower.

I was like errr dude just equip it from your phone.

And he said what do you mean??

I couldn't believe it lol. I asked him how long he he had been playing for and he's been playing since Rise of Iron!!!! mind blown

Literally he has been running to the Tower all these years...

Anyways I got him to download the app and he was so excited haha.

TLDR; if you have been living under a rock and haven't downloaded Ishtar Commander yet, do it right now. IT WILL CHANGE YOUR LIFE.

Bungie has just released the Destiny 2: The Prophecy Dungeon OST on their Rewards Page!

    Posted: 10 Oct 2020 08:41 PM PDT

The awesome work of Michael Salvatori, Skye Lewin, Josh Mosser, Michael Sechrist in the music for the Prophecy dungeon is available for anyone who completed the Prophecy dungeon and claimed their triumph for a low low price of....$0!!

    How to get:

Step 1: Go to the bungie.net website

Step 2: Log in to your account

Step 3: Go to your Bungie Rewards

Step 4: Click on "Claim Reward" under the Prophecy Dungeon OST

Step 5: Check your email for the download of the OST in the form of a .zip file

Honestly, I've been waiting for an official statement from bungie on when they're releasing their music from the dungeon from a long, long time that I was ripping my hair off from the suspense. Their music was awesome, and I can't wait for Beyond Light for some even more amazing music from the team.

The problem with the haunted forest event is we just spent a year with various systems that let us pick our exact rewards.

    Posted: 10 Oct 2020 12:46 PM PDT

It just doesn't feel good to go back to this after weapon bounties and then the new umbral engram system.

Why not make the guns drop from bounties that require x amount of candies/branches cleared/bosses in the forest for next years along with the cyphers so it's actually about playing the activity?

    Posted: 10 Oct 2020 04:31 PM PDT

Undying was pretty weak. Worthy was crazy weak. Dawn wasn't bad but this season has been much much better. I think story telling was good in both. Missions were good in both but this season felt like it added to the endgame with prophecy, where sundial just didn't.

Please give future seasonal rank-up engrams heavier weighting (or a knockout effect) to items we haven't gotten yet.

    Posted: 10 Oct 2020 02:08 PM PDT

I'm Season Rank 445 and I'm still missing numerous shaders / ornaments, but drowning in duplicate Legendary Sparrows / Ships.

Getting duplicates from these when you're several hundred levels deep disincentivizes trying to rank up at all.
