    Focused Feedback: State of PVE

    Posted: 13 Jan 2020 01:17 AM PST

    Hello Guardians,

Focused Feedback is where we take the week to focus on a 'Hot Topic' discussed extensively around the Tower.

We do this in order to consolidate Feedback, to get out all your ideas and issues surrounding the topic in one place for discussion and a source of feedback to the Vanguard.

This Thread will be active until next week when a new topic is chosen for discussion

Whilst Focused Feedback is active, ALL posts regarding 'State of PVE' following its posting will be removed and re-directed to this thread. Exceptions to this rule are as follows: New information / developments, Guides and general questions

Any and all Feedback on the topic is welcome.

Regular Sub rules apply so please try to keep the conversation on the topic of the thread and keep it civil between contrasting ideas

A Wiki page - Focused Feedback - has also been created for the Sub as an archive for these topics going forward so they can be looked at by whoever may be interested or just a way to look through previous hot topics of the sub as time goes on.

I Updated Destiny 2’s Strike Specific Loot so Bungie Didn't Have To

    Posted: 12 Jan 2020 12:41 PM PST

QUICK EDIT SINCE I MADE IT TO THE FRONT PAGE:

This was made out of boredom and for creative/entertainment purposes. I apologize if it comes across as anything else. My title for this post was made with the intent of more of a "shitpost" tone rather than an "armchair developer" tone, as some people are taking it. I love this game and understand the hard work the teams at Bungie put in to making, I wasn't trying to trivialize any of their efforts. Also, I didn't realize so many people don't like Warlock bonds, what's with that? We had great ones in D1!

EDIT 2: Holy crap, my first ever silver AND platinum?? Thank you o kind benefactors mine!!

I spent a good chunk of my morning thinking about this while grinding for Python, so I wrote it all down. SSL was probably one of my favorite parts of D1 and Nightfall Loot is a sad shell of its former self. Feel free to leave your thoughts and suggestions!

    Exodus Crash:

Hunter Cloak based on Thaviks' Cloak/Scarf (Hoodless)

Arc Sword based on Thaviks' Claws

    Lake of Shadows:

Titan Helmet based on Grask's Helmet (With Taken Effect)

Kinetic Scout Rifle based on Treads Upon Stars (With Taken Effect)

    Savathûn's Song:

Warlock Bond with a Shrieker as the main focal point

Void Fusion Rifle with a small Shrieker on top/ as the scope that opens as you charge it

    The Arms Dealer:

Titan Legs based on Bracus Zahn's legs

(Chartreuse) Solar SMG based on Scorpius Turrets

    The Inverted Spire:

Warlock Bond similar to Temptation's Bond with the same Arc "wisps" on Protheon's back radiating from the center

Arc Auto Riffle based on Protheon's Arm

    The Pyramidion:

Warlock Gauntlets based on Brakion's arms

Void Wave Frame Grenade Launcher with a Vex appearance to represent Brakion's Void flamethrower

    A Garden World:

Warlock Bond with the same purple symbol that projects in front of Dendron

Void Rocket Launcher with a Vex appearance that simulates a Cyclops's blast

    Tree of Probabilities:

Titan Gauntlets modeled after Valus Thuun's arms (basically an updated Mau'ual's Maulers)

Solar Machine Gun based on Valus Thuun's weapon

    Will of the Thousands:

    Class Item for Each Class:

Hunter: Cloak based on Darkhollow Mantle with a Xol-inspired design

Titan: Mark based on War Numen's Mark with a Xol-inspired design

Warlock: Bond based on Omnigul Bond with a Xol-inspired design

Kinetic Pulse Rifle based on Abyss Defiant* with a Xol-inspired design

(I know Abyss Defiant is an Auto Rifle, but I think making the skull on the barrel, which is not on Oversoul Edict, look like Xol's face would make for a better weapon)

    Strange Terrain:

Warlock Chest Piece based on Nokris' Robes

Solar Heavy Grenade Launcher based on Frozen Hive

    The Insight Terminus:

Hunter Cloak based on Kargen's Mantle (basically an updated Flayer Mantle)

Solar Sniper Rifle based on Kargen's Weapon

    Warden of Nothing:

Hunter Chest Piece with same glowing effect as the Mad Warden

Solar Sidearm based on Dreg's Promise with the same glowing effect as the Mad Warden

    Broodhold:

Warlock Helmet based on In Anânh (basically an updated Deathsinger's Gaze)

Void Combat Bow based on In Anânh's Shade Or Solar Combat Bow based off of In Anânh

    The Hollowed Lair:

Hunter Gauntlets based on Fikrul's arms (basically an updated Mongrel Ogre's Grasps)

Arc Sword based on Fikrul's staff*

(Mindbender's Ambition is actually a quality weapon, so I would actually be content with just giving it access to the newer perks)

    The Corrupted:

Hunter Cloak based on Techeun headdresses/robes

Arc Fusion Rifle with a Taken effect

    The Scarlet Keep:

Hunter Cloak based on Hashladûn's robes (hoodless, with ring behind helmet)

Kinetic Hand Cannon based on Zaouli's Bane with Scarlet Keep color scheme

    The Festering Core:

Titan Chest Piece based on Baurisk's armor (takes effect with large core on back)

Kinetic Shotgun with a Cabal-inspired design and a taken effect (basically a Cabal version of Stolen Will)

Four crucible maps were pulled from rotation with the launch of Shadowkeep with the hopes that they would be rebalanced in the meantime. Well, they're back, same cap points, same heavy spawn... So what happened?

    Posted: 12 Jan 2020 10:20 AM PST

    https://www.vgr.com/destiny-2-four-pvp-maps-in-shadowkeep/

Now the key phrase in that article is "if time allows", but what exactly kept them from even making minor tweaks throughout the course of an entire season? The spawn trapping is as bad as before on a map like Dead Cliffs.

Edit: Thanks for the silver kind guardians!

Also, I wanted to clarify spawns versus spawn trapping. We all know spawns, ie where you pop up, is bad on any map. What I was referring to here with these maps is spawn trapping in control, ie trapping people on A at lockers on Dead Cliffs, trapping people at B on Legions Gulch, etc. Absolutely nothing was changed via cap points or heavy ammo spawn while these maps were absent.

Bungie, PLEASE let Luna's Howl, Breakneck, and Redrix be useful in PvE again.

    Sincerely,
The shattered remains of my four-hour clear

    [e] Update for moar tests:

    • Invite Only fireteams can only be joined from the Steam interface. The in-game interface will throw an error.

Invitation of the IX Pyramid Ship models updated after Shadowkeep

    Posted: 12 Jan 2020 01:05 PM PST

This link shows the before and after:

    http://imgur.com/gallery/wWI3wOX

The ones used before Shadowkeep resemble the original D1 concept art here: https://www.artstation.com/artwork/rlod2

And the ones used after Shadowkeep resemble a certain Pyramid we've recently discovered. http://imgur.com/gallery/iGrqW0V

I don't think anything secret or special will come out of this, just thought it was a neat detail most won't recognize since everyone has already done the invitations.

Rant about my first Sherpa attempt.

    Posted: 12 Jan 2020 11:56 AM PST

I woke up today and was like, I'm bored, how about I just do a Leviathan. Find an LFG that says need a teacher, and I say 'you know what, I'll teach regular leviathan.'

Am I the most experienced player? No. I have 11 clears on both regular and prestige, so it's not like I'm a subject matter expert. But, I know the raid well enough to show people what needs to get done.

I was sherpaing- or rather, I THOUGHT I was sherpaing- a 5 stack on normal Leviathan. I took their word for their ignorance- after all, I'm not one to dig in and call people out in the event that they might have had one clear. (Turns out, the entire stack had all over 100 clears, one 800, and were there to insult me).

Go in, guy skips Castellum- ok, fine, I wanted to show you guys that because it's a drop chance, but we can do it later. Start dogs, I explain what to do, we get through it fine. Perfectly normal Sherpa experience.

Gauntlet is why I got mad. I assign plates and teach them to cover theirs and the right plate- after all, I think they need guidance, there's a lot going on, and it's a good way to learn the basic mechanics for each person- when one guy starts it early- ok, I can work with this, but I'm expecting to wipe. We get through it, but then the guy who started it was rotating and solo shooting whenever I explicitly said "hey bro, you're messing up you shooting, we've had three deaths and it would be better to initially learn it this way."

Proceed to wipe two times, and I ask the same guy why he's making my job harder. That's when he says they never needed a sherpa, and calls me an idiot for teaching stationary plates- you know, the beginner friendly strat that teaches shooting, plate placement, and psion mechanics at the same time. I tell him that since he doesn't need a Sherpa, I'll leave because I thought I was teaching, not getting bullied.

I leave, tell him to have an awful day, and guy messages back saying "there was a Sherpa in here for you, you were teaching wrong" when nothing I taught was wrong, just not time-optimal.

Why do people do this stuff? It's just self-aggrandizing, and it's obnoxious. It's not as if I was leaving out information- I answered their "questions" as completely as I could-, nor was it that I was suggesting that this is the only way to do the raid- I talked about other strats and why we were doing the strats I discussed.

It's just so frustrating to be lied to my face for half an hour straight by a bunch of people conspiring to call me an idiot.

Boss/HVT stomps in gambit need to be turned way the fuck down.

    Posted: 12 Jan 2020 02:54 PM PST

It's not a fun mechanic when the range of it is so big and it makes you go flying into a solid object, killing you no matter what the fuck your health bar looks like. They either need to reduce its knockback and range, or take it off high value targets completely(the boss can still have it)

    Optimized Bounties For 1/12/2020

    Posted: 12 Jan 2020 11:33 AM PST

Today's Bounty Optimization post is brought to you by Star Wars, errands, and meetings with professors.

It's Sunday! Otherwise known as the day I devote most of my time to dreading Monday, even though it's still the weekend so why am I doing that? Time to stave off the existential dread of my impending mid-life crisis with BOUNTIES!

Step 1 – Grab your favorite scented candle and huff it. Ben & Jerry's Berry Berry Extraordinary Sorbet for life!

Step 2 – Pick up the following bounties:

    • Saint XIV – The Finishing Touch – Kill 10 Cabal With Finishers
    • Saint XIV – Strictly Enforced – Kill 1 Cabal Champion
    • Saint XIV – One Shot – Kill 20 Cabal With Precision Damage
    • Eva – Festive Touch – Kill 20 Enemies With Melee Attacks
    • Eva – Big Finish – Defeat 5 Enemies With Finishers
    • Eva – Line Them Up – 10 Multikills in PvE
    • Zavala – The Harder They Fall – Kill 10 Challenging Enemies in Strikes
    • Shaxx – By the Code – Defeat 10 Opponents

    • Drifter – Not Your Mama's Combat Drill – Kill 50 Enemies
    • Drifter – Face to Face – Summon 2 Primevals
    • Drifter - Final Ploy – Kill 5 Enemies With Finishers

Step 3 – Make sure the following Weeklies are in your inventory, because the above Dailies will contribute to them:

    • Eva – Sweet Gifts – Bake 50 Cookies
    • Eva – The Spirit of Giving – Deliver 25 Cookies
    • Zavala – Stop the Ritual – 3 Strikes, 1 Hive Boss

    • Obelisk Weekly – No Time to Lose - Kinetic Multikills
    • Banshee – Field Calibration – Kill Stuff in Matchmade Strikes/Crucible/Gambit
    • Drifter – On the Grind – Defeat Enemies, Guardians, Bank Motes
    • Drifter – Might of the Traveler – Cast Supers, Create Orbs

Step 4 – Follow these steps:

    1. Run a Nightfall: The Ordeal (920 is fine) to clear everything Cabal and Strike related in one go. (15 mins)
    2. Run one Crucible match. (10 mins)
    3. Play two Gambit Prime matches. (20 mins)
    4. Do 4-5 Cookie Delivery bounties. (10 mins)

    Total Non-Elemental Non-Weapon-Specific Bounties Completed: 18

    Total Time Spent: 1 hour

    Note 1: I got nothin'.

EDIT: For giggles I did one of the Calus Tribute Hall bounties. With Guiding Light, and a full 32% bonus from the Season Track, it gave me a whopping 1400 XP. If you need the discounts you can grab the general ones, like 50 kills without dying, but they're not good sources of XP. I'm not sure about Benedict's, so I'll give his a shot later.

Write-up on why Nova Warp as a super doesn't perform as well as other similar roaming supers

    Posted: 12 Jan 2020 01:26 PM PST

In my write-up I will be focusing on Nova Warp in the PvP sandbox mostly because it's not useful in PvE outside of add clearing.

So Nova Warp has been discussed at great length since it was first introduced in Forsaken and caused a stir in the community with how excessively strong it was at release. It was able to one shot other supers with its hold attack, had a ~25s base duration, and it didn't cost so much to hold the charged attack. Then 3 months after release Bungie made a list of nerfs that pretty much destroyed the super by reducing every aspect of the super. 3 months after those nerfs Bungie introduced buffs to mitigate the nerfs they previously did.

Those buffs, however, didn't do much to keep parity between Nova Warp and other roaming supers and the super seems to have been hit even harder with the damage resistance changes in Shadowkeep which brought it down to 49% damage resistance compared to similar melee roaming supers such as Sentinel Shield which has a 53% DR. Nova Warp was also hit by a massive increase to it's sustained drain cost from holding the charge attack by 60% which was then reduced by 7% during the April buff patch which even so is an incredible nerf to the overall duration. Nova Warp gets affected by two sources of super drain: Blink and charge attack. When comparing similar roaming supers to Nova Warp, lets take for example Striker which is able to use it's primary attack as a movement option while being effective at killing other guardians, uses up a small percentage of its super duration with each attack.

Nova Warp players are forced to chase down others while using Blink which costs a decent amount of super along with charging an attack which costs even more than Blink. In total you get 7 charge (hold) attacks if you do them back to back from the moment you activate the super. When you factor in the Blink chase you'll be lucky if you get off 4 charged blasts. It costs too much to even hold the charged attack so if you're not in an absolute position to kill off a charged blast then you have possibly wasted 20% or more of your super.

Next I'd like to discuss the ability to survive with the super. As of the Shadowkeep patch, Nova Warp has been categorized by Bungie as having a "Low" super damage resistance (49% SDR). This is a category populated with one-off supers such as Thundercrash, Blade Barrage, Nova Bomb, and Well of Radiance (the sword slam part). However, Nova Warp is most certainly not a one-off super, it's a roaming melee range super like Fist of Havok or Arc Staff except those are in Bungie's "High" category (53% SDR). Nova Warp has two tools to survive, its perk Dark Matter which returns health and ability cooldowns upon void ability kills and its Blink. There's currently one other super that returns health on void ability kill which is Code of the Commander so I will compare these two supers. To test the difference in health return I kept both my Warlock and my Titan at low recovery and tier 5 resilience to keep their health pools the same. I attacked myself with a Wendigo shot to the foot which lowered my HP to the absolute lowest and then I popped super and used one attack on a single target. The following are images of my Warlock and Titan before and after a single attack:

    Warlock before attack

    Warlock after attack

    Titan before attack

    Titan after attack

As you can see in the images, the Nova Warp health return keeps the Warlock in critical condition after one attack but the Titan returns a large enough amount of health that it leaves the critical condition status. Also consider that this amount of health return is even more effective on the Sentinel Titan which has an addition 4% super damage reduction. This perk is very significant to the survival of a Nova Warp Warlock but it doesn't even return enough health to keep the Warlock healthy enough to pursue another guardian who is potentially already shooting at the Warlock, and even if they went for another kill they'd have to charge up an attack which take 0.7s and by that point they would be dead for sure. The next survival tool is the Blink ability which in Destiny 2 doesn't work very well because the servers are P2P with low tick rate so when you Blink your body is effectively in the same position you started the Blink in for about half a second meaning you can be headshot by a sniper or killed by any gun in general from a position you're not even in anymore on your own screen. I personally have been snipe killed from a ground position when I already Blinked way above into the air.

My last point I'd like to make is that there are no exotics that affect the super in a positive way. Astrocyte Verse does not increase the range of the Blink while in super, Transversive Steps don't increase the land speed because you float instead of sprint, and Contraverse Hold doesn't give you a damage reduction shield while holding a charge attack (it does work on Handheld Supernova while in super but HHSN is bugged while in super because it explodes immediately after use instead of at a long range).

In conclusion, Nova Warp is a very ineffective super in PvP that is overshadowed by other similar supers. It lacks effective survival tools, exotics that buff the super, and a long enough duration to make up for the high operational costs. I'm sure Bungie has gotten a lot of feedback on Nova Warp being bad but most of the posts I've read have never gone into they "why" it's bad. Simply put, Nova Warp lacks parity with other melee roaming supers. It needs to be reclassified into the "High" category of super damage resistance, lowered sustained drain costs on charge attack, slightly lowered Blink costs, more health return from Dark Matter to make up for Blink not being functional enough in a PvP environment, and a reduced time required to fully charge the charge attack from 0.7 seconds to 0.5 seconds. These changes wouldn't touch the overall power of the super in head-to-head fights with other supers but it would fix the clunkiness of the super when maneuvering around the map and engaging with other players. Thank you for reading.

Being invisible 95% of the time in a crucible match is broken in so many ways.

    Posted: 12 Jan 2020 10:56 AM PST

With the recent mods changes hunters can (and most of them are) get their dodge back stupidly fast. Top tree tether makes you go invisible when dodging. Now just imagine a guy literally going invis every time his dodge is up. He's not showing up on the radar at all, he's invis so obviously it's hard to spot him etc. Now tell me how is that not broken in PvP? Either change the way mods effect the cool down for the dodge or make the invis effect work like being crouched (you show in the radar every 3 seconds). The current situation is unbearable. 90% of the comp playlist are invis hunters running around with shotguns or sidearms.

Don’t forget to bake before Tuesday!

    Posted: 12 Jan 2020 02:05 PM PST

With the dawning ending on reset, don't forget to use up any materials you have still in your inventory. These are an excellent source for free glimmer, gunsmith mats and even enhancement cores by dismantling anything you don't want.

Make sure you grab the weekly bounties for baking too. Turning in both is almost one full rank up worth of XP.

Don't let that all go to waste! Get out there and give Zavala his cookies!

    I am on the moon

    It's made of cheese

    The hive are beneath

I know a kell named Keith

    Oh the tales of old

    Luna is quite cold

    The fallen, the hive,

    Both had come alive

    If we were to survive

    Their morale we shall deprive

    Only when they taste defeat

    We can have a treat

    I can't sing a tune

But our victory will be a breeze

    I am on the moon

And it is made of cheese

tldr: bad song made by a bored person who thought this would be cool

So the ending of the "Broodhold" strike really bugs me story wise.

    Posted: 12 Jan 2020 05:12 PM PST

Why does Spider act like he has so much leverage over us as an individual? Canonically we're strong enough to wipe out him and his forces on our own I'd imagine. Yet our Ghost piddles around like we're broke and owe this man a huge sum we'll never repay. He power trips off it equivalently, acting like we're a hitman for him and no more.

Is there some lore establishing the spider as the big mob godfather he acts like? In game it seems so unrealistic.

Our vault and inventory is shared across all characters, so should ALL our quests, apart from bounties

    Posted: 12 Jan 2020 02:08 AM PST

The inconsistency is driving me mad bungie!

Bounties make sense to be kept separate since they are in a seperate table.

    That is all...for now

    My first tattoo !!!

For my first tattoo, I, as a fan of the saga and a titan since the closed beta of the first game, couldn't think of anything more appropriate.

People really diss him for eating Cabal but now we are handling out cookies that's made from other races to everyone.

At least Drifter started eating Cabal when he starved to death.

Can we take some time to appreciate the Pit of Heresy?

    Posted: 12 Jan 2020 06:55 AM PST

Yesterday I just had an attempt to solo the Pit of Heresy dungeon without knowing anything about it prior to this. Overall, I found that the dungeon looks amazing and the encounters are also pretty good. However, one encounter really stood out for me and I would really like Bungie to do more things like this, especially in raids. The ogre encounter where you have to get orbs from knights and then deposit them into gates while running away from immune ogres doesn't sound fun, but in reality it is executed so well that you are always on your toes. I found myself getting bored with some of the other encounters like the third one, but the second encounter was just so good. I found myself always excited so see what comes next, and what tunnel to go in next and where the next giant immune ogre was. No matter what people say about Eververse or PvP(which could both be in better states right now, but I'm not here to talk about that), this is something I think Bungie nailed. Please keep doing encounters like this and also keep making dungeons that can be soloed because they are really a good test of skill.

    Devils ruin ornament advertising

    Posted: 12 Jan 2020 06:40 AM PST

I like how the in-game welcome messages lets people know what's happening in the game... but as Shax says... I didn't expect this... when logging in and seeing an ad to buy an ornament for the paid content drop for the season...

I feel it tone deaf to advertise eververse items considering the community backlash to eververse at the moment...

I thought it just me having a complain before talking to my podcast host as he jumped on tonight and all of a sudden he sighed... I asked why... I shouldn't of... I knew it.

Just completed my first ever raid in the franchise (Leviathan) and I'm hooked. Hoping to do more soon. Wouldn't have been possible without the Sherpas I had putting up with my numerous screw ups. Y'all rock! Also shoutout to r/DestinySherpa.
