Hello, and welcome back to your weekly roundup of Bungie and Destiny 2 related news. We've entered our final week of the Dawning, so get to baking if you haven't already earned your Sparrows. You have through next Tuesday to complete as many double XP bounties as you can! Additionally, the Sundial has been kicked up a notch with a Legend difficulty. If you're looking to get the Savior title or round out your Pinnacle power drops each week, get your fireteam together and challenge these Psions in the ways of old.

A new Exotic has also made its appearance, packing a little bit of Unstoppable heat, so to speak. Load up the Sundial and start your quest to acquire the Devil's Ruin Exotic Sidearm.

We're still warming up from our holiday hibernation, but we're hitting the ground running! This week, we have an update from our Game Security team, an announcement for a fundraiser to help send aid to Australia, and news on a hotfix coming early next week. Let's get to it.

    Keep it Clean

    Image Linkimgur

The Game Security team has been improving Destiny's anti-cheat functionality which detects players violating any of Bungie's restrictions and bans policies. The anti-cheat improvements will result in more players receiving restrictions and bans.

Historically, Bungie has not given players the ability to appeal a restriction or a ban because all restrictions and bans are already reviewed by a trained Bungie employee. However, going forward we will be providing a resource for players to appeal a restriction or ban. More details will be available on our Appeal Contact Form, which will be posted soon.

If you encounter any players suspected of cheating, please be sure to use the in-game reporting tool, as well as the Report Suspected Cheating contact form on Help.Bungie.net. Bungie will never issue a restriction or ban based purely on player reports, but player reports do help us corroborate other evidence.

Frivolous appeals will not be considered. Additionally, not all appeals are guaranteed to be responded to by a Bungie employee. As always, we'll be closely monitoring our security systems to ensure a healthy and fair experience for players who are not violating any of Bungie's restrictions and bans policies.

Helping Australia: Star Light, Star Bright

In the last few weeks, you may have heard about the bush fires that are currently impacting Australia. With every Bungie Foundation effort, we are reminded of how much good can come from the gaming community. Sr. Foundation Manager Christine Edwards has details on our upcoming efforts to assist those in need, opening an avenue for Guardians around the world to lend a helping hand.

Christine: Over the past two decades, the Bungie community has been an amazing force for good in our world by raising millions of dollars to assist those in distress. In addition to supporting thousands of children through our iPads for Kids Program, you have helped victims of hurricanes Katrina and Harvey and have donated to those affected by earthquakes in Haiti, Japan, and Nepal. Time and time again, you have been Guardians to others in their greatest time of need.

The bush fires currently ravaging Australia have been devastating. Many people have lost their homes, firefighters are risking their lives daily, and an estimated hundreds of millions of wild animals have fallen victim to the fires.

We are developing a limited-edition T-shirt fundraising campaign to support both Australia's firefighting efforts and the country's animal rescue and conservation efforts. The T-shirt, which comes with an exclusive Destiny 2 "Star Light, Star Bright" emblem redemption code with purchase, will be available for pre-order on the Bungie Store and Bungie Store EU between Thursday, January 16 and Tuesday, February 18 at 9 a.m. Pacific, ending with the weekly reset and the end of Crimson Days. The team is currently hard at work on the T-shirt design and we'll share a preview early next week.

The first half of all profits generated by these T-shirt sales will be donated to WIRES, Australia's largest wildlife rescue organization. The other half will be donated to NSW Rural Fire Service, which services the state of New South Wales, where the fires have been especially devastating and are in dire need of containment.

Be sure to check out next week's edition of This Week at Bungie for more details on how you can support Australia through this fundraiser. In the meantime, our hearts go out to all that are impacted and we are wishing for clearer skies ahead.

    Hammer Down

    Image Linkimgur

So, let's talk about Titans. You know, the ones that like to punch everything into oblivion. The class that sometimes throws their weapon aside in favor of a good ol' headbutt. This week, Destiny Player Support has some vital information concerning a specific exotic that could amplify the damage of a throwing hammer to game-breaking values.

    This is their report.

    WORMGOD CARESS DISABLED

Earlier this week, we identified an issue with the Wormgod Caress Exotic Gauntlets where the "Burning Fists" perk could retain increased melee damage after its intended timer countdown, allowing players to easily defeat raid bosses.

The Armor 1.0 and 2.0 versions of these gauntlets have been disabled until a fix can be deployed at a later date.

    DESTINY 2 HOTFIX 2.7.0.2

Next Tuesday, January 14, we will release Destiny 2 Hotfix 2.7.0.2. This hotfix will resolve a few known issues, including the EDZ Obelisk accessibility and Eververse waypoint notifications. Please see below for our rollout timeline.

    • 8 AM PST (1600 UTC): Destiny 2 maintenance will begin.
    • 8:30 AM PST (1630 UTC): Players will be removed from all Destiny 2 activities and will be unable to log in until 9 AM PST.
    • 9 AM PST (1700 UTC): Players will be able to log in again and Destiny 2 Hotfix 2.7.0.2 will begin rolling out to all platforms and regions.
    • 12 PM PST (2000 UTC): Destiny 2 maintenance is expected to conclude.

    TRACKING KNOWN ISSUES

Over the past few weeks, a few more issues have surfaced that our Player Support team has been tracking. Below is a list of the latest known issues that were reported in our #Help Forum:

    • The Leviathan's Breath Exotic Bow currently cannot be acquired due to an issue with 'The Arms Dealer' strike where it can only be completed in Season 8.
    • The Tower Obelisk can sometimes not be accessed. Players encountering this should return to orbit and launch back in to The Tower.
    • The Giddy Laugh emote keeps loading in the Emote Collection and can't be unequipped if slotted.

For a full list of emergent issues in Destiny 2, players should view our Known Issues article. Players who observe other issues should report them to our #Help forum.

    UNTIL NEXT DAWNING

As the holiday season comes to an end, so too does the Dawning. The Dawning ends this coming Tuesday, January 14, at the weekly reset. Players have until then to create their holiday gifts, upgrade their Dawning Sparrows, and earn double XP from Eva's bounties.

    That's a lot of Crucible

    Image Linkimgur

This week's winner features eight-minutes of pure Crucible carnage with a variety of weaponry, abilities, and straight up skill? Bows, throwing knives, Arc Beam, Hand Cannons, Sidearms… you name it. Legend of Acrius even snuck in for some love. Language warning for the final moments. Frostbolt, you'd better wash your mouth out with soap!

Movie of the Week: Mastery of Destiny

    Video Link

Honorable Mention: Solo Flawless Pit of Heresy using Two Sidearms and a Sword.

    Video Link

Cheers to each submission, as they'll both be taking home a Movie of the Week emblem. If you'd like a chance for the emblem, submit your video to the Community Creations page.

First TWAB of a new year. Prepare for things to ramp up here in the next few weeks. Season of Dawn still has more in store with an upcoming Exotic, Empyrean Foundation, Crimson Days and more.

    Image Linkimgur

Before we go, we need to give some spotlight to AGDQ2020, otherwise known as Awesome Games Done Quick. For years, this speedrunning event has been yet another source of positivity within the gaming community, bringing people together in the fight against Cancer. Later today, the Last Wish speedrun will be on stream with commentary provided by a few familiar Destiny raid experts. The current time is projected to be around 7:30 PM Pacific, but things may change. Be sure to check their schedule for the most up to date information.

Have a wonderful weekend, and we'll see you again next Monday.

    Cheers,

89 days ago, I started grinding all daily & weekly forge bounties to get a rare bounty. Today, I was able to equip Izanagi's Burden for the first time.

    Posted: 09 Jan 2020 04:41 AM PST

So 24 weekly bounties and ~445 daily bounties later, I finally got one, the one which made me do 25 forges.

The best thing is, my friend got one too, at the same time as me, so we did the quest together.

    (Whisper is still better lol)

Edit: I was joking about the Whisper, Izanagi's with catalyst is obviously better, but I suck at reloading to Honed Edge x4, so I prefer the Whisper. I've been able to try out Izanagi's on my friends account in GoS raid, but I've been using Whisper myself, and most likely am still gonna do so.

If a player is backpedaling and has a ranged melee ability charged, lunging should be disabled.

    Posted: 09 Jan 2020 05:40 PM PST

Both my knife/smoke bomb Hunter and my throwing hammer Titan have died so many times because I kept lunging at big bads and exploders when I meant to throw a melee instead. Is there any way you guys can patch in some checks the game can do before initiating a lunge? For example, if a player's ranged melee ability (smoke bomb, throwing knife, or throwing hammer) is fully charged, the lunge range should be severely shortened. I think it's reasonable to assume that most of the time, when a player is running a ranged melee ability, they intend to use said ability in more situations than they will want to lunge. Personally, I would rather "waste" a melee charge on an enemy I intended to lunge at rather than lunge at a cursed thrall.

Eververse vs. Gameplay Loot, and the Problem With Bungie's Focus

    Posted: 09 Jan 2020 01:30 PM PST

TL/DR: Too much effort is being invested into microtransactions as opposed to gameplay, and this is supported by the fact that over half of our seasonal loot comes from Eververse. Bungie needs to change their method and start focusing on developing a good game, because the most hardcore players are losing interest. Otherwise, Destiny is going to die off completely.

    Hi all,

I've made a few posts on r/raidsecrets, but am rarely on Reddit. I don't use forums a ton in general, outside of the occasional post on bungie.net, but wanted to add some extra information into a discussion that's been around for a while.

Bungie is not focused on the proper elements of gameplay, and this is growing more evident with each season. I have usually kept quiet on this topic, and even tended to take Bungie's side in the past. For instance, I was fine with Eververse selling the glows for the Solstice of Heroes armor last summer, even with it being priced fairly high. I have bought silver nearly every season that I've played, but the direction Destiny is headed in has pushed me away from the game.

Its well known that Eververse has been expensive for some time now---there are multiple articles detailing how it costs over $200 to get all of the seasonal items. Frankly, that number is absurd, and the growing cost of cosmetic items has added to this. I am lucky enough to be able to afford to buy silver now and then, and usually start every season with a $50 purchase that grants 6000 silver. That said, you can imagine my frustration when I logged in at the start of Season 9, and learned that I would spend nearly all of that on finishers if I wanted them all, and therefore having to buy more silver if I wanted anything else (ornaments, emotes, etc.). As someone who constantly supported Bungie--both in their vision and in terms of money--it felt like a slap in the face that the cost was so high.

Now, it is very well known that Season of the Dawn has been a flop in the eyes of many. The lack of content is apparent to the point where even some of the more popular streamers are calling Bungie out. There have only been a few content releases this season, and all of them could be easily finished within a few hours of gameplay, leaving us with the same repetitive grind we had before. A clanmate and I decided that we wanted to get a solid grasp on how much content they've really given us, so I decided to go ahead and count all of the loot added this season. I counted every cosmetic item that is obtainable through Eververse, and the loot we earn through gameplay (this included everything that came with the season pass). Here are the numbers I came to:

Eververse Items: 74 ---- Cost: 24,200 Silver ($205 before tax and fees)

    Gameplay Items: 75

    New Gameplay Items: 65

    -Armor + Weapons: 58

    -Armor/Ornaments: 33

    -Weapons: 25

    -New Weapons: 15

    -Year 1 Weapon Updates: 10

    Equipment: 4

    -Ghost Shells: 2

    -Ships: 1

    -Sparrows: 1

    Flair: 13

    -Transmat Effects: 1

    -Finishers: 1

    -Shaders: 11

If I am incorrect on any of these numbers, please let me know and I'll fix it. Also, I didn't list all of the Eververse item counts, as I didn't feel it was necessary---the point is that if its from Eververse, you usually have to pay for it.

So, how does this illustrate Bungie's lack of focus in developing a good game. Well, Destiny is commonly viewed as a loot-shooter (yes, there is debate as to how well it fits the genre, but the gameplay is based on shooting creatures and finding loot, so I think it counts). Therefore, a large portion of why people play Destiny is to get loot. The problem: Over half of the new loot being introduced into the game must be purchased at the cosmetic store. 75/139 pieces of loot added this season are earned through gameplay, but 10 of those are Year 1 weapons that have been brought forward. While some may disagree with my philosophy, I do not view this as "seasonal loot", as it already existed in the game, but functioned slightly differently.

The problem gets worse when you look at Bungie's actions as a business. It is estimated that they have 300-600 employees (although some sources state employment numbers around 3000). Even with the low end of those numbers, its inexcusable for them to not have any real form of customer service. There should be at least an email address for support, and a phone number and/or live support line would bring it up to the standards of other modern companies. A perfect example: My clanmate has been afflicted with a bug in which they complete the Garden of Salvation raid and get the triumph for earning Divinity, but don't actually acquire the weapon and have no way to restart the quest. That raid came out almost three and a half months ago, and he still hasn't gotten Divinity. His only hope is to post on a forum and hope Bungie puts in the effort to build a fix. That process is inexcusable.

With all of this said, I think the largest issue comes from last summer's Director's Cut essays by Luke Smith. In one of the essays, he basically discussed how its "difficult" for them to make content, which is why they'd be making less. So, if content is so difficult to make, then why is half of the loot coming out simply a way to earn more money? The interest levels in Destiny have been on a sharp decline, and this is due to a lack of fun activities in the game. If content is that hard to create, then you need to take some of that effort (and money) spent to create Eververse, and direct it towards creating an enjoyable gameplay experience.

Anywho, sorry for the long post/rant. I just feel that something actually needs to change, or Destiny will simply fade away. Bungie needs to get their priorities straight, and it should be a red-flag that the most dedicated players in the game are losing interest. Thanks for reading, and keep it civil in the comments.

    --KaptainWilly

Edit: To those who will make the point that the gameplay department is different from the one that makes cosmetics for eververse, you are likely correct. What I'm saying is if thats the case, then resources need to be pulled from whatever department produces Eververse content, and put into the department's responsible for gameplay.

Edit 2: I wanted to make this clear after a couple replies were made: the issue I have is NOT that most of the loot is cosmetic. My issue is that it all comes from Eververse through a direct purchase. For example, there is very little incentive to grind strikes because there isn't any interesting gear to acquire, and the experience is stale due to most strikes being very old. If you can't make more strikes, then at least give us a reason to keep playing the old ones. In this case, it'd be updating vanguard armor and weapons.

Edit 3: Found a video from last summer where Luke Smith states that the company has around 600 employees, and I trust his word more than some third party website on the internet.

Infinite Grenades & Melee Abilities (and a few other things) with Geomag Stabilizers (PvE Only)

    Posted: 09 Jan 2020 10:59 AM PST

You can use any finisher that takes one fifth or less super energy while you have Geomags equipped, and then just sprint to refill your super, and then you can use the finisher again. It's pretty handy for any arc ability bounty, and also any finisher-reliant build provided it works with middle tree Arc warlock.

    Optimized Bounties for 1/9/2020

    Posted: 09 Jan 2020 09:26 AM PST

Bounties! You might love 'em. You might hate 'em. You might enjoy them in the moment but regret it the next morning. It's cool, I'm not here to judge! I'm just here to help you optimize your bounties, so you can complete as many as possible in as little time as possible, while also avoiding unnecessary grind. Can you clear lots of these by running Moon Lost Sectors 12 times in a row? Probably. Should you? Not if you love yourself.

Step 1 – Program a reminder on your phone for the Last Wish speedrun at AGDQ tonight!

Step 2 – Pick up the following bounties:

    • Saint XIV - Strictly Enforced - Kill 1 Cabal Champion
    • Saint XIV - Leading Light - 20 Super Kills
    • Eva - Cabal in A Day's Work - Kill 100 Cabal
    • Eva - Take 'Em Out - Kill 100 Taken
    • Eva - Big Finish - Kill 5 Enemies With Finishers
    • Zavala - From Downtown - Two Super Multikills
    • Zavala - Vanguardian - Defeat 50 Enemies in Strikes
    • Shaxx - By the Code - Defeat 10 Opponents
    • Shaxx - Lightbearer - Defeat 3 Opponents With Any Ability
    • Shaxx - Into the Light - Defeat 1 Opponent With Super
    • Drifter - Big-Game Hunter - Eliminate 1 High Value Target in Gambit
    • Drifter - Fistful of Motes - Bank 25 Motes
    • Drifter - Envoy While It Lasts - Defeat 2 Primeval Envoys

ADDENDUM: Envoys don't work in Gambit Prime, and your team can kill HVT's before you even see them, so I'm officially declaring shenanigans on Drifter today. Cut these three out and save yourself the Gambit time.

Step 3 – Make sure the following Weeklies are in your inventory, because the above Dailies will contribute to them:

    • Zavala - Stop the Ritual - 3 Strikes, 1 Hive Boss
    • Shaxx - Combat Drill - Play 5 Games (fewer if you do well)
    • Shaxx - Step Into the Light - Play 5 Games (fewer if you do well)
    • Obelisk Weekly - Steal the Show - 300 Cabal Kills, 10 Cabal Finishers
    • Obelisk Weekly - Lost to Time - Clear 5 Lost Sectors
    • Obelisk Weekly - No Time to Lose - Kinetic Multikills
    • Drifter - On the Grind - Defeat Enemies, Guardians, Bank Motes
    • Drifter - Might of the Traveler - Cast Supers, Create Orbs

Step 4 - Follow these steps:

    • Complete one Sun Dial run, or one Insight Terminus Nightfall: The Ordeal (15 mins for Sun Dial, your mileage may vary on Ordeal)
    • Complete the "Lake of Shadows" Strike (10 minutes)
    • If Lake of Shadows didn't get you 100 Taken Kills, run the Sanctum of Bones Lost Sector on Io (5 minutes). While there, grab Asher's bounty for 15 melee kills on Io. Enter the Sanctum of Bones with nothing but your fists and a dream!
    • Complete 1 Crucible Match (10 minutes)
    • Complete 1 Gambit Prime match (assuming you don't get ROFLSTOMPED before you summon your Primeval) (10 minutes) (see update above: Drifter is butts again today)
    • Use your 40-ish Dawning Essence to grab four Cookie Delivery bounties, and complete them (10 minutes, assuming you have to run to the ass end of the galaxy and back)

    Total Non-Elemental Non-Weapon-Specific Bounties Completed: 14-15

Total Time Spent: 1 hour, plus or minus load times.

Note 1: To cut off the inevitable "This is what Destiny is now?!" - no, it's not. I didn't even follow my guide for last night, because last night was Raid Night. Ran Garden of Salvation, Last Wish, then Scarlet Keep once and a single Crucible match. Cleared almost everything on the list. What I'm trying to do here is chart a path to complete them as fast as possible without grinding a single activity or making yourself miserable. Variety is the spice of life! But if you prefer not to run Strikes, there are still ways to get most of the PvE bounties done. Go your own way!

Note 2: There are plenty of Element and Weapon Specific bounties available. Only take the ones you enjoy!

Note 3: Removing the Drifter's "Kill Primeval Envoys" bounty because for some dumbass reason it doesn't work in Gambit Prime.

    UPDATE WOO WOO UPDATE

I'm off this afternoon for a dentist appointment (protip: take care of your teeth now, so you don't pay several thousands of dollars to take care of them later), so I ran the steps I outlined above, and timed myself. I did:

    • Sun Dial
    • Lake of Shadows
    • 1 Crucible Match
    • 2 Gambit Prime Matches
    • 5 Cookie Deliveries

Total Time: 1:07:42. I'm on a PC with an SSD, so your load times may add a decent chunk to that, but since I now recommend skipping Gambit entirely (see the above edits), you should be able to get 13 bounties in under an hour.

With Activity XP, those 13 bounties, Guiding Light, and my Seasonal Track bonuses, I gained 2.25 Season Ranks. If I add the elemental/weapon kill bounties that I chose because I like them to that, it's 2.75 Season Ranks.

Can we please stop getting Hip Fire Grip on Sniper Rifles?

    Posted: 09 Jan 2020 05:59 AM PST

I'm sure there's some people out there who are like "but bruh, my no scope kills".

But yeah, no. No more Hip Fire Grip please. It's really dumb on sniper rifles.

EDIT: Since it keeps coming up, this roll is not for pvp. EDIT2: Yes, I know it affects both pve and pvp....

    Endgame and Professional Streamers?

    ****RANT***

Reading Gladd's tweets, which I have never done but Forbes mentioned it so I did, he is concerned with the lack of challenges in current D2. I'm confused what do the steamers want from a game? I understand it's his and others livelihood but they are less 1% of the population of Destiny how or why would Bungie cater to there needs? There is challanges out there but they have become so proficient at the game at this point nothing is really hard for them. These are the same people that put up multiple videos of meta load outs that call for nerfs and such. Personally mid-tier to casual type of rewards is much better for the base of the community.

Yes Devils Ruin quest was easy but fun, Leviathans was easy but long, Xenophage was an amazing quest that was a nice mix of length and challenge, that final boss was tough for us casual players. Complaining a raid is to easy or 980 content is not a challenging for them is a them problem not a Bungie one. These people would post videos of doing raids in D1 with crap weapons or only abilities or something just to challenge themselves but now that isn't an option? They spend a majority of their time finding ways to break the game with glitches and melt bosses in 5 seconds just to complain there isn't anything worth doing.

I agree endgame for some people is a little lackluster, but for a VAST majority of the destiny population they will never get those levels of completion. Yes loot can be tedious, I"M TIRED OF FORSAKEN ARMOR IN MY PRIME ENGRAMS, but most of us keep playing and grinding. This game will never be everything to everyone, opinions about the current state is are great ways to keep bungie honest with their changes, but thinking that anyone player base is more important that others hurts development for everyone who enjoys this universe.

Since day 1 of Black Armoury, I've been after the Blacksmith title, and now the Forges are no longer individually accessable at any time, it's become a nightmare due to 1 reason

    Posted: 09 Jan 2020 12:08 PM PST

The Drop rate for the Forge Specific Shaders is so low.

I was working my way through the Badge when I came across the shaders, and it literally took me from the moment Volundr was available until Shadowkeep came out to get 3 of them.

And now the Forges are on a daily rotation, Gofannon is only available once every 4 days.

I grind as much as I can on those days, but to no avail.

I think I speak for a lot of people when I say that I'd like to get them to drop more often.

Edit: this is also with forge polymers at all available points

I know this is like beating a dead horse, but honestly, who at bungie thought it was a good idea to not have nightfalls nor nightmare hunts count towards the Ariana’s vow catalyst?

    Posted: 09 Jan 2020 02:03 PM PST

It makes absolutely no sense considering the gun is most useful in those activities. And according to them they can't change it for some odd reason? I'm just left scratching my head. I would've had this shit done ages ago if they had designed the quest better.

I'm only 105/400 and I've probably put nearly 100-150 hours into nightfalls and nightmare hunts alone since shadowkeep launched.

I know, not a lot of people are gonna relate to this problem, but we still can't use our prestige raid lairs ornaments on armour 2.0. It's been 3+ months.

Jack queen 3 and the old fashioned feel like they didn't get their recoil animations updated.

Hello, console peasent titan crayon eater here.

I heard some YouTubers talking about it and didn't mind at first, but now that I've got both of them I can feel something is wrong, maybe they didn't get updated with the shadowkeep hand cannon recoil changes. That's it. Maybe I'm wrong, cheers.

Roaring flames affects the damage boost granted by a well of radiance. X3 turns it into a 175% buff, only works with solar weapons.

Bungie, Antaeus Wards have the potential to be something amazing but they have been bugged since they were released over a year ago.

    Posted: 09 Jan 2020 04:19 PM PST

In case you don't know: Antaeus Wards will reflect anything in front of you while you're sliding.

When this works it feels amazing and it's ludicrously fun to reflect an enemy nova bomb or golden gun shot back at the enemy.

HOWEVER this is only when they work. Most of the time the wards will reflect the projectiles directly into YOU instead. Making them extremely inconsistent and extremely useless.

I shouldn't have to gamble by putting on these leggings.

After giving up on doing bounties, the game feels more enjoyable

    Posted: 09 Jan 2020 06:35 PM PST

I mostly love doing raids, and playing with my homies. I did spend a good amount of time during the dawning to grind out my season pass ranks. But being at rank 85 I no longer pick up bounties and man does it feel liberating

It will be nice to have a good fire rate elemental trench barrel shotty again lol.

Hopefully we get a SPECIAL / ELEMENTAL EXOTIC SHOTGUN soon though. We have NONE.
