Ehroar: "It's becoming more and more clear that Bungie is only buffing and nerfing things based on usage rates"

    Posted: 21 Feb 2020 01:03 PM PST

I would love to disagree but, how can I?

Snipers and GLs were the most used weapon types because they were in a good spot, not because they were broken. Broken is shotguns' reload animation lasting longer than the time we spend shooting the ammo. Broken is having rocket launchers reload after a SINGLE shot. Broken is your decision making, Bungie.

I truly want to believe you know what you're doing because, well, it's your game, but it really feels like you're missing WHY we use certain weapons. In what world did you think snipers were too OP at long ranges? What the f*ck do you want us to use at +60 meters? A shotgun? It's not like they were being spammed against every single enemy, only against those who were far far away or those with awful stomp mechanics.

Now, I get that Izanagi needed a nerf, but, what the hell? Every single sniper? Bungie, for the love of gods, just listen to your players ONCE. And yes, I say ONCE because it simply feels like after Forsaken came out you're just completely ignorant about your own game.

With TLW getting unjustly decimated on console, it’s a good reminder of 2 things: PC and console need to be balanced independently, and infrequent drastic sandbox updates discourage weapon diversity in the game

    Posted: 21 Feb 2020 12:54 PM PST

I hope there's a good TLW catalyst coming this season.

Bungie, you buffed Snipers in Shadowkeep because they were underused. Now you're reverting that buff. What do you expect the outcome will be?

    Posted: 21 Feb 2020 07:52 PM PST

Snipers, frankly, weren't great before the buff. They were fine, I guess, but they were arguably the least good special weapon type in most content. Turns out 20% more damage and a raid that actively discouraged other weapon types (try using a Shotgun against the Sanctified Mind) pushed the meta too far the other way. Now you're reverting back to the pre-Shadowkeep balance and crossing your fingers that somehow, something will have changed. Also, it's worth pointing out that legendary snipers really aren't seeing much more usage, it's mostly Izanagi's Burden that's surged so much in popularity. Legendary Snipers have really good DPS, true, but they're also the only meta DPS option that requires precise aiming. Is it really a problem to have the hardest to use DPS weapon be the most effective?

Regardless, I am genuinely confused right now, because the solution just seems so obvious: with a 20% buff they're overused, with no buff they're underused, why aren't you even trying the middle ground? Is your intention simply to completely rotate the meta every 6 months? Snipers were intended to be good for two seasons and now it's something else's turn? Because, if that's the case, that's a sucky way to handle weapon balance, and at the very least should be communicated transparently.

If Bungie wants us to spend money on Eververse, why are prices so damn high?

    Posted: 21 Feb 2020 04:47 PM PST

I've played hundreds of mobile games and am guilty of spending 4 figures on stupid shit. I don't mind spending, but at the same time $15-$20 for one item is kind of ridiculous. If Bungie charged a couple bucks for emotes and maybe $5-$10 for a full set of armor, my wallet would be hurting. But as it stands, I've only spent a bit at the beginning of SK and not a dime since.

They probably just use metrics to determine pricing and it all makes sense on paper, but I've always been perplexed as to why they refuse to lower prices for higher volume of sales. Are whales their only worthwhile user to target? I've been wanting to spend money to support Bungie but their pricing model is awful.

Weapon nerfs feel bad because Bungie doesn’t seem to take everything into account.

    Posted: 21 Feb 2020 06:17 PM PST

    1. Hitting an exotic with specific nerfs, then nerfing its weapon type, and finally its weapon archetype is a massive overreaction to a game design flaw (big boss arenas, stomp mechanics, tiny weakspots...why do you think we snipe?)
    2. Older content isn't re-balanced in light of these changes - I don't want to imagine raids like Scourge of the Past with shitty sniper rifles. I've had PUGs struggle with even the spider tank forge boss because it was made before Whisper was nerfed.
    3. Unfair nerfs aren't reversed. Looking at you, Sleeper.
    4. Put simply, shit doesn't get buffed. Looking at you, Tarrabah.
    5. We like to feel powerful. This is a petty and cheap way for Bungie to remind us that we're on a treadmill, and that the game only runs because of engagement statistics.
    6. We feel the need to instantly jump on and abuse the "new strong thing" (which used to be weak, but now stands out) before it's struck into the ground and the fun's dead again. Constant heavy-handed nerfs reinforce this hoarder's mindset and exacerbates the issue.

Imagine a meta where everything rocks. Yeah, you can get unlimited whisper ammo. Or you can bounce your sleeper shots. Or spec into machine gun reloading and go nuts with Thunderlord's. Think that's broken? Did you see my barricade Izanagi build?

The meta now is "well, I guess Linears don't suck as much now, we could probably use those?"

Bungie, do you play and enjoy your own game or do you just get scared whenever we start to enjoy something a little too much?

    Raiding Against Cancer

    Posted: 21 Feb 2020 04:22 AM PST

    Our Guardian Has Fallen.

On January 25th (just a couple weeks ago), we lost killerklown736. He was a member of the Spirit Animals (our very casual clan) and lost his two-year battle with colon cancer. He had been in our clan since around the time of Destiny 2's release and had spent countless hours alongside us. He miffed the Vex. He closed the Cabal. He kicked the fallen when they were down, and he buried the hive. He brought us honor.

He was a friend to us all and some of us were even fortunate enough to have met him in real life.

To honor his memory, we are hosting a 24-hour stream in an effort to raise funds for the American Cancer Society. It will be starting this Saturday (February 22) at 12:00 PM EST and ending at 12:00 PM this Sunday (February 23rd).

We are using the fundraising platform Tiltify. All funds go directly to the American Cancer Society. We invite you to join the cause by donating (https://tiltify.com/@laser712/spirit-animals-raiding-against-cancer).

But most of all, we invite you to please participate in our stream, which will be located on Twitch for our official stream: https://www.twitch.tv/spiritanimalsclan/. Please note that this twitch account was set up specifically for this event and may not have much streaming going on between now and then. It's likely some of us will be streaming via mixer at various times as well. Find us using #raidingagainstcancer

I'm hopeful you'll be able to join us in remembering him and to help raise money for research to help treat cancer.

    Eyes Up, Guardians. Eyes up.

P.S. I'm sorry for keeping the Destiny references low in this one. Part of me wanted to fill it with puns about how I don't have time to explain how we've woken the hive while the spire was forming, but the fact of the matter is that Guardians don't always get to make their own fate. There is no enhancement core for our bodies, and the truth is people -- and this community -- matter to every one of us. Cancer is very real, and it freaking hurts. Losing a friend hurts more than I think any of us want to admit. Our hearts have been dismantled into shards. I'm the "happy/goofy" dad joke guy. But right now, I'm sad. And I (and the rest of my clan) just want to do what I (we) can to honor our friend. Please join us.

Edit: The immediate response has been nothing short of amazing (I was actually concerned I'd be getting pitchforks). I'm at work right now and can't reply to everyone, but assure you I will be reading everyone's comments through the day and later tonight. I'll try to get back to everyone I can.

Also, it looks like I got gold and silver. Thank you, that means a lot. I don't want to come across as unappreciative, that is the opposite of the truth. However, please keep your money or donate it to our cause or a charity of your choice. Hopefully we can raid against cancer together.

Edit 2: A couple fellow clanmates are in the comments trying to help out since I'm at work and can't really interact much right now. It was suggested that I name who they are, since they will also be in the streams and are representing us in the thread below.

    carlos_bandera, notryanfox, jlewi34, tmeisterc, ThumperZero, jjworld42

Edit 3: If anyone wanted the story of how klown came to join our clan: https://www.reddit.com/r/DestinyTheGame/comments/f7ackf/raiding_against_cancer/fiah3xf?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x

We did math. We'll spend 15.49 years pressing a button during this event.

    Posted: 21 Feb 2020 03:00 PM PST

EDIT: Thanks to /u/FunkyCobra, as it turns out this has been done already, and I suck. Commit time is more like 3.5 seconds so that's ~5703703 minutes, about which is ~10.84 years

To get the point across more clearly: Bungie, when you do this kind of thing in the future, take this as feedback for larger increment options on the commit/donate.

A thought occurred to one of my clan mates and I. The button to donate 100 fractaline at the tower is inconveniently long, about 5 seconds. Long enough that we got to wondering, how much time is the D2 community going to have spent, standing at the tower, holding down a button to donate fractaline, by the time this Empyrean Restoration event ends?

Well I'm sad that I did the math now, and now you all get to share my burden.

    ------

I'm assuming that 9,777,777,700 is the final goal amount of fractaline needed for this event.

The button hold time to donate 100 fractaline is about 5 seconds long.

So 9,777,777,700 divided by 100 fractaline per click, times 5 seconds to commit a donation, divided by 60 seconds in a minute, equals 8,148,148 minutes and some seconds that I don't care about.

Then we go to Wolfram Alpha for the unit conversion.

By the time the Destiny 2 community finishes this event, we will have spent, together, in aggregate:

    • 8148148 minutes
    • which is 135802 hours
    • which is 5658 days
    • which is about 15.49 years

...just to click and hold a button, to commit 100 fractaline at a time.

Also none of this is counting the time spent pulling bounties, turning in bounties, checking inventory, checking if you should even keep the thing, going to tangled shore to get more glimmer from Spider, bio breaks, dismantling the things you're not keeping, shitposting on reddit, buying resources to buy more glimmer, going back to the tower, etc.

Bungie, why? I mean I get this is a great event for getting a bunch of good weapon rolls, but 5 seconds per button click is just inefficient. Speed is a lifestyle man, that's a lot of time we're spending staring at a menu screen.

Imgur library, and also shoutout to my dude, clan mate, and human calculator Arriival for checking my math and suffering the burden of this knowledge with me.

Just a friendly reminder that Gambit launched on September 4 2018. And we been playing on the same 4 maps for the past 535 days since the making of this post.

    Posted: 21 Feb 2020 04:00 AM PST

I understand that a lot of people don't care to much for the Gambit playlist. But keep in mind it is still a source of powerful rewards and ritual weapons are still being made that requires you to go into the playlist to grind it out. It will be nice to have some new maps along with some kind sandbox update to the game mode that will bring more people to actually stay in there longer and maybe even enjoy it

    Just saying.

Edit: As you all are pointing out season of the drifter launched with new maps.... Even though this was 343 days ago.... But whatever.

Edit: Goodness, a lot of you guys really don't like Gambit. Let it die then, the people have spoken.

DMG Confirms there are *NO* changes are planned for 110/140 RPM Hand Cannons in the next sandbox update

I want to say this is a subtle confirmation of 150s being adjusted, but the tweet he replies to specifically mentions only 110s/140s, and he doesn't talk about 180s either...So I think it's safe to say no hand cannons are gonna be touched at all?

Ghost meleeing isn’t just a minor inconvenience at this point, it’s a real full-fledged problem

    Posted: 21 Feb 2020 11:49 AM PST

Back in D1, most of my melees connected and ghost melees rarely happened, and if they did then oh well it was only an occasional misfortune

In D2, I don't think there's a single game that goes by where I don't get at least 2-3 ghost melees. In this last iron banner I just played, every single initial punch I tried to land ghosted (not an exaggeration).

I'm feeling it may be tied to using something to boost melee lunge range, such as synthoceps knockout or deadly reach, as its usually after traveling that long lunge that the melee doesn't conmect cause the target moved too far back or up or something. Regardless, even if it is when just using things like that, it shouldn't put you at a disadvantage when it's supposed to give you more of an edge with your melee

After autoloading, whisper, ect nerfs, I hated those back then. But looking back I can see why it was necessary and that we're doing fine without em. I think we shouldn't jump the gun here and overreact.

    Posted: 21 Feb 2020 07:45 AM PST

Title. These are big changes no doubt. But as a community we transitioned over pretty well and we're doing fine. Rip dmg and all other moderators. Most of us know you aren't the sandbox team so hopefully y'all don't get dissed on again. We appreciate everything you all do.

Has anyone noticed that the Ornaments for Telesto have been predicting the future?

    Posted: 21 Feb 2020 03:41 PM PST

I was messing around with telesto when my friend asked me if I got the new Ornament for bright dust and after picking it up I noticed something odd with the names and releases for the Ornaments.

1st came out in CoO titled "Reef in Ruins" and I think this was supposed to be a teaser or hint that the Reef was in trouble especially with the battle worn look of the Ornament. Which is what happened in Forsaken with the battle in the prison and dreaming city.

2nd Ornament is mostly a stretch but it's titled "Dread from Below" came out in Warmind and could have been hinting to going back into the Moon this whole time. But the design makes me feel like its talking about the creatures on Titan bur the name makes me think of "The Dark Below".

Now the 3rd to be released this season is called "Long Live the Queen" and this is making me believe either in September the Queen is coming back or she will come back after this season or something because this season was basically a remake of CoO and next season is turning out to be a remake of Warmind so season 11 might be going back to the Dreaming City.

What do yall think am I just spitballing or could Bungie actually be teasing stuff with some other exotic Ornaments.

P.S. My original post was on r/Raidsecrets but was taken down because it's more lore based than a secret but I thought I would post it here to see what other people think.

So instead of making Power and the End Game grind matter again, the solution is to just make all of our guns weak so the difficulty artificially goes up?

    Posted: 21 Feb 2020 04:14 AM PST

    Title and GG

It's frustrating that a solution to a more difficult game is weaker weapons and weaker unique and enjoyable weapons at that

I guess this is a free to play thing where nobody would buy the pass if the actual game focused on anything outside of the easy circle to grind up

Look forward to the next enjoyable pve meta to get torn down once it's established

Weekly Bright Dust Bounties need a change

    Posted: 21 Feb 2020 06:15 PM PST

TL;DR Please just make the weekly bounties that award Bright Dust account wide, triple the rewards, and triple the requirements to complete them, just let me play on one character if I want to do so, because it becomes increasingly tedious and frustrating having to do stuff such as Crucible on a character that I dont like to play on.

If you disagree, please give me an in depth explanation as to why you think merging the Bright Dust Weeklies is a bad idea. I see no downsides to allowing people to do progress on any character.

If you wanna farm Ordeal while doing your Vanguard Weeklies, you should be able to do it on the character of your choice, same with crucible and gambit.

Weekly Bright Dust Bounties include: Crucible, Gambit, Strikes and now very rarely, we get an an event with extra weekly bounties.

Every week, per character, you can earn 1,200 Bright Dust, a total of 3,600 Dust, excluding seasonal events that usually award an extra 400 per character (another 1200, making it 4,800)

Basically I'm asking for a change to the bounties to just be a universal account bounty, triple the XP, and rewards to compensate for it not being doable separately anymore.

•MY REASONS: I'm burnt out. This happened in Season of The Undying as well. I'm the kind of person who wants to maximize my gains every week because of how expensive stuff is the ever verse.

This means I have to play on all 3 characters, every week. Which means I am forced playing on characters that I am not familiar with to play as, like in PVP where everyone sweats like its Competitive in Valor playlists.

I just want to play on maybe 1 character a week sometimes, but that means I miss out on 2/3 of my bright dust Earnings every week.

Surely other players out there feel the way I do. You know how bad the economy is for Bright Dust.

When I was burnt out during Season of Undying, i didn't play Destiny at all, and almost skipped out of Season of Dawn.

But, the thing that kept me going this season was Saint-14 and stuff.

But I feel next Season will fail to live up to the excitement of saving an important lore character, because as far as I'm aware, it's going to be a Warmind based season, which probably means Escalation Protocol-esque Sundial activity, but with Hive (unless its fallen, or Taken).

I think merging all 3 character bounties into 1 big weekly quest that rewards you with the same amount of BD and XP is a good idea.

It would allow me and other players to just play on our favorite character, without feeling like we are being forced to play on a character we do not want to put any effort into.

This was probably intended by Bungie to make us play on different characters, but I feel like we shouldn't be forced to play on a character we dont like, or have the "feel" for, especially when it comes to game modes such as Gambit and Crucible, that are super competitive.

If you can give me ANY logical downsides to this, I would love to hear why you disagree with this idea.

Bungie, why only Vanguard, Crucible and Gambit repeatable bounties give Bright Dust? Give us more sources.

    Posted: 21 Feb 2020 03:48 PM PST

Gunsmith repeatable bounties award only EXP. Give us Bright Dust as the others above mentioned. Same with Eris's repeatable bounties.

While we are here, give repeatable bounties to all vendors, and to all destination vendors too. More reason to do destination bounties. Please.

At this point I have a strong desire to take a break from the game because Bungie does not respect our time or opinion

    Posted: 21 Feb 2020 02:45 AM PST

After reading this TWAB, I see how they prepare for new competitive mode, and casually decided to kill entire PvE meta just for funz and giggles.

And you know what, i hate it. I hate the fact that things that are earned, that are hard to get are getting destroyed. Izanagi and catalyst took WEEKS to grind. It needed luck, RNG, bug fixing to even get the gun for some players.

And now they decide to destroy it like they destroyed Sleeper in the past. Like they butchered Whisper, like they about to destroy Wordline.

You know, for a game that is centered around loot and has so much FUKING grind, you don't respect time of your customers. You don't respect people who spend hours upon hours on grinding Sleeper, you don't respect people who were committed to getting Whisper, Izanagi, grinding GL god rolls to optimize their build and damage.

What is exactly the point of your game, if our hard work is not rewarded? You are aware that 90% of rewards in this game SUCK? This season really showed what destiny 2 become all about – sharding thousands of items in search of a godroll. Why are you nerfing things, instead of introducing viable alternatives?

I wont even mention how much harder this will make LFG for Raids and stuff. Bungie just decided to suck a little bit of fun out of the game.

But what I do not understand is why I should support game developer that does not respect me or my time? With all things considered, with "new competitive mode" on the horizon, if entire season is only centered around it, and there is nothing more (like Gambit Prime season) - I probably going to skip it. I see no point. Because rewards are going to be nerfed later on, and things you worked for will be made obsolete.

It would REALLY HELP the New Light experience if we could see where our friends are in their quests!

    Posted: 21 Feb 2020 11:14 AM PST

Recently a lot of my friends have started playing Destiny 2. Mostly New Lights and a few who played the game a tiny amount when it went free on Battle.net. But the experience has changed significantly since, and they're getting really into it.

A really consistent problem I run into while I'm helping them get prepped for endgame activities (with exotics, pinnacles) is quests. It's hard to tell:

    1. what quests my friends have
    2. where they are in those quests.

It's an awkward back-and-forth as I google quest names and try to get them to navigate a UI which they aren't familiar with yet. If I've already completed a quest (and I have basically completed every quest..) I rarely remember what step leads to which, and have to check with my friends every time they progress. While I do absolutely want them to learn the UI, it's a massive question of time.

There are a lot of resources in this game, but time plays a lot more into the new player experience than anything else. If I only have an hour or two to play with my friends, it would be much better if we could optimize that time.

I recently took a friend through the Riskrunner quest that was added with Shadowkeep. It reminded me why I still love this game: even though I have basically everything I want, it is such a joy to see other players get excited about new drops. Seeing him react to the beauty of the Cosmodrome, and then hearing the Destiny theme play while he freaks out about how cool the Riskrunner is... I wouldn't trade that for anything.

I haven't seen anyone else suggest this, so I might be alone here, but I hope there are others who would agree with me.

TL;DR - please give us a way to see what quests our friends have and where they are, so we can help them progress more efficiently and improve the New Light experience further
