The Sniper Rifle nerfs are uncalled for: An argument against the cited idea that Sniper Rifles are uniquely allowing us to damage bosses from "safety".

    Posted: 22 Feb 2020 10:31 AM PST

Whenever Bungie nerfs Whisper or Sniper Rifles in general in this game, they always cite the reason that they offer too much protection because they are easy to use from safety. I would like to argue against this idea. In the most basic sense, the point of using any gun instead of a melee weapon is that it shoots projectile ballistics from range. Linear Fusion Rifles, Rocket Launchers, Machine Guns, Grenade Launchers, Trace Rifles, basically every potential DPS weapon type except for Swords and Shotguns can be fired from range and safety. Not just snipers. Practically no encounter in the game remotely resembles the Icebreaker Templar Strat from the fall of Destiny 1 Year 1 where people were sitting up on a far away ledge where ads couldn't come at us and the boss couldn't attack us. That was a situation unique to Snipers. The only situation in D2 I can think of that remotely resembles this is the end of the Whisper of the Worm mission, which almost seems fitting since the reward was the Whisper of the Worm.

Besides this point that the vast majority of DPS weapons in the game are used safely at range, and that snipers are not unique in that way or being abused, for almost none of the raid bosses in the game does it matter at all whether you are close to or far away from the boss. This whole idea of shooting from safety is a myth. Safety is practically everywhere. For Calus, we are sitting on plates where ads can't attack us and the only "danger" is from boss attacks that prompt us to simply change plates. Our engagement distance for that encounter is developer designed. Riven just sits there and takes it. It doesn't matter if you're right next to her or way back. People are one-flooring her with Swords for goodness sake.

For Insurrection Prime, it doesn't matter if you're in the spawn room, the green room, or on the ground right next to him because he doesn't attack you. With Well of Radiance you're safe no matter where you are in the arena. Many people who utilized Darci and Whisper for this fight stood right next to the boss - not from "safety". Again, safety is practically everywhere. With the Spire of Stars boss, the boss' rocket volley originally presented danger that forced players to attack the boss from safety, but now with a Well of Radiance, once again, literally any location in the room is safe despite the fact that the encounter was specifically designed to force us to engage from safe distances.

Argos floats over a massive pit, which again forces us to keep our distance. While this is also one of the rare encounters where you are in danger from suicide Harpies and trap boxes, the danger is essentially equal no matter where you are in the intended arena. Whether you're as close as you can get to him or as far away as possible, you're in the same danger. It comes down to utilizing the cover in the room in a strategic way. During the Gahlran fight, some thrall come and attack you but they'll seek you out no matter where in the room you are standing. The common strategy was to put a Well directly next to the boss - not from "safety". The thrall are not so much as threat as a tool used to get damage buffs using Leviathan armor mods. Those who utilize "safety boxes" during damage phases in this raid can employ any DPS weapon in the game other than Swords and Shotguns. Snipers are not unique in this way and are in no way the culprit.

During the boss DPS phases in the Garden of Salvation encounters you are in no danger whatsoever. This isn't because you're using Sniper Rifles, it's because nothing is attacking you! Sanctified floats in the sky over a sea of Vex Milk. It makes no sense to use CQ weapons even if we wanted to. Again, it's the way the encounters are designed, not some unique abuse of Sniper Rifles. Whether we're using Linear Fusion Rifles, Rockets Launchers, Grenade Launchers, Sniper Rifles, Trace Rifles or Machine Guns, the play style result is the same. With any of those DPS options we'd be standing in one place, shooting his crit from range. For some of those weapon types, you wouldn't even need to hit a crit! Heck in Gambit Prime, the balance of which is often cited for PVE nerfs these days, the buff aura you use during DPS is placed by the developers at a safe distance. If you're killing Blockers or Envoys in Gambit Prime, it is SO much easier to just run up and quickly shotgun, fusion rifle, or sword that Blocker to death than to have to land repeated head shots with a sniper on a teleporting Taken enemy who spams their long range abilities at you from a "safe distance". Not to mention , for shielded enemies like Taken Captains and Envoys, you are heavily incentivized to break the shield with an alternate weapon first before attempting to snipe them since precision damage doesn't register through shields. Meanwhile, a shotgunner can just mindlessly spam them to death in mere seconds. Having a sniper in your load out in situations like this often puts you at a disadvantage that you have to make up for with other choices in your load out. Like any weapon, there are trade offs. Snipers are not the best option for many situations.

So, again, this idea of snipers breaking the game because we're using them from safe distances is simply not true. Fighting bosses from perceived safety is not actually a reflection on our weapon choices, rather it's a reflection of Bungie's encounter design where very often all distances are safe distances during DPS. They punish us for using what their encounter design calls for and for being perceived as safe in DPS phases that offer no threat to begin with. The vast majority of damage we do in this game is from "safety" no matter what weapon you're using (Swords and Shotguns excluded). Snipers at least require some skill to use at their maximum effectiveness, unlike brainlessly spamming Grenades, Rockets, Machine Guns, Shotguns, Outbreak Prime, or whatever else.

If you made it this far, thanks for reading! After snipers being what I loved so much about PVE in Destiny 1, I waited through two years of legendary snipers being mediocre in Destiny 2. For them to be as effective as their counterparts and then to have them nerfed back to mediocrity after a mere 5 months when so many broken things in this game go so much longer without being addressed is a real gut punch.

Bungie, you are reverting Sniper Buffs because it made Izanagi a "safe" powerhouse, why don't you revert the blanket Machine Gun nerfs you did because "Auto Reload + Thunderlord" was doing too much damage?

    Posted: 22 Feb 2020 11:45 AM PST

Simply the title. The rationale for your earlier sniper buffs are gone, so you revert them. Your rationale for Machine Gun Nerfs have been gone for a long ass time. If it's all about the rationale no longer existing, just revert them along, since Auto Reload has been gone for a long long while.

Bright Engrams shouldn't drop duplicates until after you have everything in them

    Posted: 22 Feb 2020 05:53 AM PST

The only thing in this season's bright engram I DON'T have is the only thing I want: the Rock Out emote. I've been grinding bounties all season but all I seem to get are dupe ships, shaders, ghost shells, and (worst of all) gifts pf bright dust. I'd be less frustrated if they dropped every level after 100 but they still only drop every 5. The grind just doesn't feel worth it and I pity anyone who actually paid for bright engrams.

Edit: Complaining on reddit must be magical because I just now got it. I wish you all luck on your own bright engram RNG

Dodge is Instant. Please have high Res and Recov reduce the casting animation time for Barrier and Rift.

    Posted: 22 Feb 2020 10:20 AM PST

    Title.

Dodge is the class ability and can be on a 9s cooldown and is an instant cast evade.

Barrier and Rift are class abilities with higher cooldowns and long casting animations. If we could have higher tiers of Res and Recovery reduce the animation time, it would give the other two classes a semi-evade on a much longer cooldown. It still would not be as good as dodge but it would help. It would also give some meaning to run High Res on a titan as there is almost no incentive to do so right now.

    Thank you.

If we all used the aeon cult arms, would they get a buff or a nerf?

    Posted: 22 Feb 2020 10:47 AM PST

I just ran into a 58yo Healing/well warlock main at my job.

    Posted: 22 Feb 2020 01:10 PM PST

I was talking to a co-worker/friend about the izinerf coming.

Me- hey (friend) did you hear about the nerf to izinagi?

Friend- ...oh god. How bad is it?

Me- 33%ish based on reddit math. Kinda funny.

Friend- so that means whisper of the worm makes its triumphant return.

    Me yeah, prob-

Lady- I love whisper! Sad to hear about izinagi though. Guess it had to much burden. What do you 2 main?

He and I- look at each other, surprised ...

    Me- voidlock.

    Him- arclock.

Her- ha. I like the healing stuff. I throw healing bombs at everybody and use the space sword to heal people. ( wellock.)

We talked a bit more. But yeah, what an odd and unexpected exchange. I felt like sharing because it just surprised me to meet an older guardian out in the wild like that =). Awesome as hell

    Happy Hunting space cowboys/cowgirls.

The next time DTG does a Focused Feedback thread, remember that only a month ago we have a PVE FF thread where many said that PVE weapons were too weak and then this week we got the latest round of Nerfs.

    Posted: 22 Feb 2020 11:58 AM PST

Just worth remembering in case you think Bungie gives two shits about the feedback we give, whether it's focused or not.

Iron Banner needs a new loot table and better rewards in general,

    Posted: 22 Feb 2020 04:04 AM PST

The games themselves need to award better loot, IB needs to stop relying so much on bounties because of all these lowlife Competitive Gamers making them hard to finish. I think next season they should introduce an entire new set of weapons and armor for IB as well as something better for doing the quest, like seriously everyone hated doing it just to be allowed to turn in tokens,Bungie should be ashamed of themselves for that decision, maybe they should introduce a cool returning exotic as the reward for it instead (maybe Bolt-Caster?) but yeah stop making us do fucking Bounties when these Fortnite Ninja kids run around and ruin the game.

Why aren’t 110 or 140 rpm handcannons being adjusted? Makes no sense to me

    Posted: 22 Feb 2020 11:28 AM PST

110's need to be 1 crit, 2 body and 140's need to be 2 crit, 1 body. End of story.

Why are these archetypes being completely ignored by bungie when's it's so obvious they need adjustments? There is absolutely no senario where using a 140 or a 110 over a 150 will prove beneficial in pvp.

Try to get a Trophy Hunter with Vorpal Weapon/ Triple Tap before next season nerfs hit.

    Posted: 22 Feb 2020 04:19 PM PST

With the nerfs hitting Izanagi's and sniper rifles, this might be the most viable sniper with special ammo for DPS next season. Adaptive and Rapid Fire snipers are mainly the sub-archetypes hit by the sniper nerf which makes aggressive frames have the most damage potential next season.

Trophy Hunter is an aggressive frame and probably one of the easiest snipers to farm remaining this season. Go for a Vorpal Weapon for flat 15% bonus damage to bosses and Triple tap with a mag perk to get 5 round mags. With triple tap boosting that to 7 rounds if you are consistent, it would not be hard to see this be the primary DPS sniper with special ammo next season.

Can armour mods that we get for free (e.g. Boss Resist) please show as being "earned" in the mods collection?

    Posted: 22 Feb 2020 01:31 PM PST

I know this isn't exactly the biggest issue in the game right now, but it's rather annoying to see that I'm apparently missing 48 mods when I'm actually only missing 4. Can these free mods please show their proper status?

I’m going to be a little disappointed if the mentioned Exotic Weapon adjustments are the only ones coming for Season 10.

    Posted: 22 Feb 2020 07:26 AM PST

There are plenty of Exotic Weapons that still need to be buffed to even be relevant:

    • Sleeper Simulant, which we've discussed ad nauseam, is simply a detriment to have in your Power Weapon slot. It fires slower than every other Linear Fusion Rifle, while also having low reserves and requiring precision shots to even be viable. There are some Legendary Linear Fusion Rifles, like Line in the Sand with Firing Line, which are simply better options as a Linear Fusion Rifle (let alone a Power Weapon in general).

    • Trinity Ghoul, which has absolutely no place anywhere in the game. It charges and fires too slow to be an enemy-clearing option when we have similar weapons like Riskrunner or Loaded Question as Arc options, or something like The Recluse which does a better job without needing extra parameters involved.

    • Skyburner's Oath. I'll be honest, I've never even touched this gun, but I've never seen it above the bottom slot in anyone's Exotic Weapon Tier List. I couldn't tell you what the issues are with it, but if it's been that bad for that long, then it should be looked at.

There a few honorable mentions, like Lumina or Tarrabah (the latter of which is the only Exotic Weapon I currently don't have), but those three I mentioned are the main ones that should consider being adjusted.

If anyone has any suggestions, I'll compile them into an edit if it seems reasonable.

    EDIT:

    Suggestions from other users:

    • u/aq3e suggests Polaris Lance, which I agree with as well. The fact that it's a 150 RPM Scout Rifle and you're expected to get four straight precision shots kind of offsets each other in my opinion. (It's pretty good in Momentum Control though...)

    • u/AxionTheGhost brings up D.A.R.C.I., which I could definitely see needing a buff of some sort. It just doesn't compete in the Power Weapon slot. I could personally see moving it to the Energy slot as a reasonable buff.

    • u/ImUnlord mentions SUROS Regime, a gun that was once the king of the Crucible. Now, it's not even the best Exotic Auto Rifle (Hard Light and Cerberus+1 are better). This gun will probably benefit a lot though from the upcoming Auto Rifle damage tweaks.

SBMM has decimated the PvP population.

    Posted: 22 Feb 2020 05:42 AM PST

In the summer of D2 Year 1 we saw population slump to an all time low. But then something happened. SBMM was removed from PvP. Population exploded. It then remained at a steady high for the next year. PvP even routinely overtook PvE's numbers during lulls in content holding steady between 500k-750k daily.

Apparently Bungie was sick of people playing PvP so they reinstituted SBMM and population has been nosediving ever since.

PvP population has dropped to 150k daily players. Back to where it was last time SBMM was in place.

Anyone who says that SBMM is "good for the majority" needs to stop. It is objectively false. Population always lowers when SBMM is tightened. Not even just for Destiny either. Look at Apex Legends. That game went from World Phenom to a ghost town after SBMM was introduced.

More exotic weapons should have anti-battier/overload-staggering ammonition

    Posted: 22 Feb 2020 03:22 PM PST

If the champions are to stay in the game it would be handy to have more than the few exotics and legendary weapons each season to choose.
here are some ideas for weapons:

    bastion - anti-barrier
    Arbalest - anti-barrier
symmetry - stagger (like it was)
    trinity ghoul - stagger
    riskrunner - overload
    outbreak perfected - overload

i don't know if this has been proposed before. I chose the weapons/ammo based on the style of the weapon. if you have other ideas please write them down :)

Some exotics like aeon cult would be really good to be reworked into exotic mods we can apply to other exotics. Seems a waste to have the code written and never used.
