If "fusion rifles" are going to be having a look due to Erentil, can shotguns also receive the same treatment due to Mindbender's?

I know this is old, but still...thank you Bungie for putting the Obseliks near the spawn points on each map

    Posted: 05 Feb 2020 04:30 AM PST

This is such a little thing but one that was noticed and appreciated. So many times we have to journey to the depths of a location to get to the place we need to go, but this season you've made it much easier, and I thank you.

Each new season, the previous seasons activities should be condensed into a strike.

    Posted: 05 Feb 2020 07:54 AM PST

It would be awesome to see Inotam becomes strike boss and corridors of time lead up to it. This would satisfy two needs of the community. 1: Season content not being completely lost 2: More strikes

Additionally the strike could have rewards from the previous season like trophy hunter or perfect paradox.

Edit: Obviously as an afterthought this would require development time that can't be spared, but going forward it would be nice to see. It seems like it wouldn't be too hard to have this as a design ideology going forward but maybe I'm wrong. At then end of it though we have some serious content issues that aren't solved by adding content and removing it 3 months later. If we are to remove content I would much rather it be old and unused content than new and used content.

The way the entire community is donating to the Empyrean Foundation is exactly how defeating the Undying Mind in the Vex Offensive should have been.

    Posted: 05 Feb 2020 05:49 AM PST

As there were thousands of Undying Minds operating on multiple timelines it would have been great to have something like "Kill The Undying Mind 100,000 times" as a community effort.

Bungie, please take a measured approach and don't just butcher high impact fusions. Remove backup plan and firmly planted as perks first, and then let's see if there's still an issue. Erentil is still at sub 2% usage, and we need more loadout diversity, not less.

    Posted: 05 Feb 2020 12:16 PM PST

This might be a long shot, but Coolguy's video was really enlightening. The issues with Erentil aren't really anything to do with the weapon itself but with two of the perks found on it. Backup plan eliminates the drawback of the weapon (charge time), and firmly planted (combined with damage floor) allows it to semi-consistently connect bolts at ranges it really has no business hitting. As soon as Coolguy took off firmly planted Erentil couldn't land more than a bolt or two at long range.

I think we're all in agreement that backup plan doesn't really have a place on high impacts. High impacts are balanced by a charge time that is higher than many primary weapon TTK's. Backup plan removes that drawback and makes vooping too effective in too many situations.

I'm a fusion fan myself with nearly 10k Erentil kills and despite having a ton of range and tap the trigger and plenty of experience I can't even come close to hitting the shots coolguy was hitting. I honestly had no idea how powerful firmly planted is, and I think we should also look at removing or reworking that perk. Fusions shouldn't be killing at 80+m but I worry that Bungie will screw up with adjusting the the damage "floor" will just murder the weapon entirely. Let's try removing the perk first and see what happens.

Fusions are still a distant fourth behind shotguns (and snipers/GL on PC, third on console). I promise you, if Erentil was as good as people say all the sweats would be using it, but they're not. It's 90% spare rations and mindbenders on a stompees Hunter, at least on console. I'm usually the only person in a legend comp match using it, and the only fusions that give me any sort of issue are the backup plan ones. Let's not make the meta even more restrictive than it is already.

Listen, we've actually got a pretty decent weapon sandbox. Sure, for specials it's mostly shotguns but at least Fusions are viable. People always like to bitch about what kills them that they don't use, so Erentil gets a lot of hate. Let's not crush this weapon archetype before trying a more measured response first.

Thanks for coming to my ted talk. Voop squad forever.

Season pass holders should get seasonal engrams

    Posted: 05 Feb 2020 12:46 PM PST

If the main argument for not having seasonal engrams is that Bungie still needs to make money (since Destiny is technically a free to play game now) Then guardians who payed money for a season should be able to get eververse engrams for that season. You know all the junk on the payed side of the season pass? The 25 legendary shards, 10k or so glimmer, 5 enhancement cores, a legendary engram? Perhaps take all the stuff out and give us a seasonal engram so we can get seasonal items without having to pay more then we already have. If anything it would be more of an incentive for free to play players to buy the season pass.

Thank you for coming to my ted talk

3d printed some fractaline , where can I donate?

Items with droprates below 1% need to be buffed to at least 5%

    Posted: 05 Feb 2020 11:32 AM PST

Today I run Altar of Sorrows again. After 40 minutes I had two completions. No drop of the ghost that I need for harbinger title.

Not only this activity is completely dependent on random people who might leave before phase 5 even begins, but the drop rate of the ghost is is so astronomically low that I don´t think I will ever see it.

If I were to guess the drop change is below 1%.

Right now I am close to 300 clears and I still don´t have the ghost.

It will only get worse, as this event will meet the same fate as the escalation protocol has.(maybe someone will start it, but barely anyone will stay to finish it).

Bungie this is not okay, and it needs to be changed. Maybe add drop protection - same as the escalation weapons have ?

Don't be surprised if the weekly free fractaline resets Sunday

    Posted: 05 Feb 2020 07:54 AM PST

Just sayin, the tower obelisk is already on the schedule of sunday resets, given what we've seen from the fractaline booster consumable. If you're looking to max out your weekly return, you might want to focus on getting max resonance level by Sunday. Edit: This also makes it a gamble to not claim your free fractaline before Sunday, and possibly miss one reset worth.

Thanks for the silver! Hope we get clarification either way, with the community so invested (haha) in maximizing our donations, I'd hate to see us lose a week worth of freebies.

Empyrean foundation feels more like one of those "You had to be there" moments than the corridors of time and vex offensive.

    Posted: 05 Feb 2020 04:04 PM PST

It has a much more interesting impact in gameplay, as you can farm for good rolls on all the cool weapons of the season without too much of hassle.

You can keep up with the progress in the pvp playlist, and even if you only donated 5000 for the emblem, you can still feel you did something meaningful to help out. If you don't feel like that, there is a way to exponentially increase your gains and contribute as much as you would like. Corridors of time didn't really feel like that, and the vex offensive had even less interaction.

I would like to see more community things like this. Whisper, Outbreak, the community mars challenge and the empyrean foundation are what i'd like to see built upon in future of seasonal content. More stuff to actually engage the community instead of just mindlessly grinding things or just waiting for a callendar to reach certain dates, only 1 or 2 exotics that im probably vault unless they either break the game or happen to become my favourite.

    TL;DRCorridors of time: meh
    Vex offensive: bad
    Empyrean foundation + inotam: nice

EDIT: some people actually felt that corridors of time was actually far more meaningful than the other events. Based on their arguments, i don't blame them, and i think it is totally fine. That event really wasn't for me, and i just hope that in the future, these kinds of puzzles just have a little better execution in the rewards department.

Bungie, can you change the character background color from that depressing Gray color to Destiny 1's Blue?

    Posted: 05 Feb 2020 04:02 PM PST

Here's a photo comparing the two colors.

I know Bungie has far bigger requests on their plate and this change would be otherwise meaningless, but this small change would make me so happy.

The drop rates on the Forge Specific Shaders are abysmal

    Posted: 05 Feb 2020 03:13 AM PST

The grind for the "Blacksmith" title is a good one, but is made impossible to attain for many players because of the drop rates of the shaders:

    "Rasmussen Clan" - Volundr Forge

"House of Meyrin" - Gofannon Forge

    "Satou Tribe" - Izanami Forge

"Refurbished Black Armoury" - Any blue frame

I personally have been grinding day in and day out to try and get these shaders, but since the Forges have become a daily rotation, the grind has become exponentially more difficult.

Please please please increase the drop rates?

I'm sure many players would be grateful

Edit: for those wondering, I have all items except "House of Meyrin" and have been grinding Pulse Rifle frames and being Polymerized as often as I physically can. Literally since launch.

Obelisks and the Empyrean Foundation could serve as a solid template for the future return of Factions and their Rallies.

    Posted: 05 Feb 2020 04:05 PM PST

If you take the mechanics and systems from the Obelisks and apply Factions to them, it could make for an interesting new form of the Faction vendors.

You pledge to a Faction just like linking an Obelisk and you can change Faction for a hefty fee, just like resetting an Obelisk. Each vendor could have a currency tied to them that, when turned in, awards armour from packages and then the ability to buy weekly/daily bounties, weapon bounties and upgrades for the vendors. Think more tokens from strikes/crucible/gambit/whatever and the improved bounty progress. There could also be some themed mods thrown in the mix, maybe tied to the philosophies of each Faction. It could also award shaders and emblems on rank up milestones and high stat armour every 5 levels.

As for rallies, every time one appears there is a race for donations much like what is happening now. You have a total rank value which is given back daily to either reinvest or donate to your faction and increased drop rates for tokens. In the end the winner gets either a ritual weapon, exotic class item, catalyst or maybe something else of high value. Maybe even all three!

Using these templates, it ensures that both Factions in the background and Rallies can coexist together mixing the D1 and D2 versions of Factions.

What do you think? Discussion and improvements welcome.

    Optimized Bounties For 2/5/2020

    Posted: 05 Feb 2020 10:10 AM PST

AntelopeTrivia asked me for a plug today, so here you go: the national animal of Namibia is the Oryx. Expect a Byf video discussing the implications later this week.

Step 1 - Guess which country's national animal is the Savathun.

Step 2 - Pick up the following Dailies. Weeklies can be found here.

    Tower Bounties:

    • Saint XIV Daily – Personal Space – 15 Melee Ability Kills
    • Saint XIV Daily – Psion Slayer – Kill A Psion Boss in Sun Dial
    • Shaxx Daily – Sparring Grounds – Complete 2 Crucible Matches

    • Failsafe – Super Powerful – 20 Super Kills on Nessus
    • Failsafe – Lightbringer – Create 10 Orbs on Nessus
    • Failsafe – Cabal or Nothing – Kill 30 Cabal on Nessus
    • Asher Mir – Vexing Revelations – Kill 30 Vex on Io
    • Asher Mir – "Vanguard" Outpost – Complete 2 Patrols on Io
    • Asher Mir – Super Interesting – 20 Super Kills on Io
    • Ana Bray – Team Player – Create 10 Orbs on Mars
    • Ana Bray – Panache Precision – 10 Precision Kills on Mars
    • Ana Bray – Legionary's Lament – Kill 30 Cabal on Mars

Step 3 - Follow these steps:

    1. Run one Sun Dial. (15 minutes)
    2. Play two Crucible matches, at least one of which is Supremacy. (20 minutes)
    3. Play one-to-two Gambit Prime matches. (10-20 minutes)
    4. Fly TO THE MOOOOOOOOOON, grab Eris's bounties, and slap on your Moon detector Ghost. Head to Sorrow's Harbor and go nuts in an Altars of Sorrow event. Filaments shouldn't be too hard to spot while running around, but if Sorrow's Harbor seems light on them, head to Archer's Line. There's usually tons there. (5-10 minutes)
    5. Fly to Titan, grab Sloane's bounties, slap on your Titan detector Ghost. Power Weapon Multikills should be easy anywhere, even easier if you can snag a quick Public Event. Alkane is all over the place. (5 minutes)
    6. Fly to Nessus, grab Failsafe's bounties, then try to hit up a Cabal Public Event in either Artifact's Edge or The Cistern. (5-10 minutes)
    7. Fly to Io, grab Asher's bounties, then head to the Lost Sector in the Rupture. Pop your Super and go nuts for donuts. Then head to the Lost Oasis for two quick bounties (Kill Everything and Collect Stuff). (5-10 minutes)
    8. Fly to Mars, and try to pick up Ana's bounties without hitting on her. Head to the Ma'adim Subterrane and murder away. (5 minutes)

Total Non-Elemental Non-Weapon-Specific Bounties Cleared: 28 Dailies, 2 Crucible Weeklies, 1 Obelisk Weekly (Kinetic Killstreaks)

    Total Time: 75-90 minutes.

Note 1: OOH BABY THOSE PLANETARIES. I think this is the first time we've been to Mars since I started doing these posts.

Light-Fused Fractaline: Spend 20k glimmer & 10 shards; get back ~3 (**completed**) timelost weapon bounties, ~1.5 obelisk packages, and ~10 shards

    Posted: 05 Feb 2020 12:03 PM PST

I wanted to prove to myself that light-fused fractaline (LFF) was worth purchasing - and feel confident that the answer is yes. (See title for returns).

If folks need to see the maths, I can try to clean up my model later for sharing, but will just share the high level details for now:

    • Buying LFF feels pretty expensive; in fact using spider conversion rates (10k glimmer for 20 materials, 20 materials cost 4 legendary shards) - it costs 18 legendary shards to buy one.
    • However, LFF buys you one "resonance rank" which for the rest of empyrean foundation, grants you an additional 100 F (fractaline) weekly.
    • Reinvesting (deposit to destination obelisks) this 100 F next week and the following would result in an additional 225 F for the last week of empyrean foundation. It also grants you those "1.5" obelisk packages (fractional packages aren't possible, but if you were to buy many of these items, that's the approx rate of return)
    • Using your additional F income to ultimately buy weapon bounties and use the "25% bounty completion for donation" mechanic will grant you 3 completed bounty frames with basically zero effort. (Note, the math I did was buying 10 LFF, which results in enough F to repeatedly buy 4 bounties, donate 400 F to complete them, then repeat. This cycle can be done 30 times, so therefore one LFF has a return of "3" weapons)
    • Shard cost is calculated with each legendary that you get from weapon bounties + obelisk packages yielding 4 legendary shards back on dismantle. Assuming everything you get is scrapped, you end up with ~7.7 shards spent on average for all of those weapons/items. Obviously you're going to save some stuff, but most things you get won't be god rolls and therefore assumed that "nothing" is kept for the sake of math.
    • Finally, the above all factors in reinvesting next week (before 2/18 reset) AND the following week (before 2/25 reset). If you only reinvested the additional generated F next week, you'd have a lower "shard cost," i.e. 5.7 shards spent, but you would also "only" get 2.7 weapon bounties completed and ~1.2 obelisk drops. Personally, due to time efficiency, I'll spend the additional shards for the additional weapons.

All that said, you will obviously go insane running back and forth between spider (to buy more glimmer with shards/materials), obelisk (to donate your fractaline), and tower (to buy, progress, and redeem those weapon bounties). So the real cost is 7.7 shards for probably your sanity and probably some god rolls.

    The more you know.

EDIT: u/Supreme_Math_Debater pointed out an error in my math (Thanks! Comment here) I haven't had a chance to fully update my own model and confirm - but it actually looks like shard return & weapons/packages gained is even better than my original estimates, BY LIKE DOUBLE. My model is giving me back: for one exotic consumable, you GAIN 4.5 shards more than you started with, in addition to ~6 completed weapon bounties and 2.3 obelisk packages - when reinvested for the first THREE weeks. My numbers for only first two weeks reinvested look a little screwy though. Either way... there's clearly some solid economy engine here if you want to work it.

I just accidentally stumbled upon a song on Spotify and thought I recognised it

    Posted: 05 Feb 2020 11:32 AM PST

Here I was, doing some work and I let my Spotify autoplay while I worked. It was queueing up some good songs so I decided to let it carry on. A song started playing and I thought I recognised it, it was 'E-Pro' by 'Beck'.

After a few minutes of figuring out what the bloody hell this song was, I started watching game trailers. I watched the Xbox Elite Controller trailer, I watched the Xbox series X trailer, I even found myself watching a trailer for Overwatch. It took a minute, but I figured it out.

It was the shadowkeep trailer! I'd been looking for that song for months and months, because I knew it sounded cool, and here I was, minding my own business and I randomly found it!

Edit: the actual one used in the trailer is a remix by CapeLion. And, if I may, I will say that this remix sounds EPIC when you listen to the whole song, I nearly fell outta the damn chair.
