This Week at Bungie, we're calling in reservations.

It's been a wild week in Destiny 2. Inotam, Oblivion's Triune, made their grand entrance into the Sundial. Guardians descended upon Mercury, weapons in hand, eager to protect the timeline from certain annihilation. While you've prevented the Psions from changing history, this isn't the last trial you'll face - not by a longshot.

The first three Empyrean Foundation goals have been met with haste. One billion Fractaline isn't enough for the Foundation, and the next goal is currently in reach. Your next stop: 2.2 Billion Fractaline donations.

We knew you'd rise to the challenge, but this? This is absolutely insane. Keep that Fractaline coming. We're seeing quite a few Guardians investing in their Fractaline futures, but many hitting the donation button to quickly earn some sweet Timelost weapons.

The final triumph for the Savior Seal will be completed once the community completes the seventh stage of this event. We're excited to see a new title in the wild. Players will also unlock the ability to pre-order the Savior Bungie Reward pin once they have completed all Triumphs for the Seal.

Now, let's look at the calendar. We have some beats to cover that are coming up quick, with a new Season on the way in just over a month! Below, you'll find details on Crimson Days, Destiny 2 Hotfix 2.7.1.1, and a patch note preview for Season 10.

Love is almost in the air

Have you been feeling a bit lonely lately? Lacking a partner by your side in the heat of battle? Crimson Days is on approach, bringing the perfect opportunity for you to form an unbreakable Crimson Bond with a fellow Guardian.

    Video Link

Crimson Doubles returns to the Crucible during the event, bringing explosive 2v2 combat to the fold. Stay close to your partner: you'll each have heightened ability regen as long as you retain your Crimson Bond. If you stray too far away from each other, opponents will be able to see your every move. If you'd rather take your partner out for a stroll in one of Destiny 2's PvE activities, Shaxx will offer bounties for you to complete in a two-person fireteam.

As you complete Crimson Doubles matches and bounties, you and your partner will be showered in delicious candy hearts. To sweeten the deal, Daily and Weekly bounties will offer double XP. Bright Dust will also be rewarded when completing your weekly bounties.

As you begin to stockpile Confectionary Hearts, they can be exchanged with Lord Shaxx for Crimson Days themed rewards, including two new Exotic Sparrows. Ride in tandem to show the strength of your Crimson Bond!

    Image Linkimgur

If this is your first Crimson Days event, or you didn't earn enough hearts in years past, rewards from previous events will also be available to earn alongside the new Sparrows.

    Image Linkimgur

Additionally, spare Confectionary Hearts may be exchanged for Warmhearted Gift packages containing Glimmer, with a slight chance for legendary loot. Once you've collected both Sparrows and claimed the associated Triumph, an exclusive emblem will become available through Bungie Rewards.

    Image Linkimgur

Eververse will feature many items from previous events for Bright Dust, including two new items exclusive to Crimson Days. One new item will be available for Silver only, the Heartfelt Union Multiplayer Emote.

Crimson Days will be available from February 11 to February 18, 2020.

    Cutting Edge

We're a little over a month out from the next Season of Destiny 2 and this seems like a good time to start talking about Sandbox. Over the next few weeks, we'll be covering upcoming changes to weapons and abilities. Some changes will be PvP-centric, while others will bear more of a PvE focus.

    Our first subject: Swords.

Some are sharp. Some are blunt. One lets you bend space and time to teleport through enemies. Another has projectiles that can take down foes at range. Since the launch of Destiny 2, we've been seeing feedback on general functionality and the team has been kicking around ideas on how to make things a bit more enticing.

After some brainstorming and development time, Swords are receiving a sort of tableflip when it comes to light attacks, heavy attacks, and guarding. While you'll still rip and tear through opponents, as you would expect from a Sword, most of what you know needs to be unlearned. The blades have been rebalanced, and a new energy meter is making its way to swords. Below, you'll find a full rundown from our development team.

Dev Team: Swords are getting a little more love this Season. While Swords have been a staple of Destiny ever since their introduction in The Taken King, we felt they were due for an update both to freshen them up, but also to allow us more room to work with them in later releases.

    Sword Energy

    • Swords now have their own reserve of energy that recharges naturally on its own, and is not to be confused with ammo capacity. This energy will overtake your melee slot while you're wielding a sword and is spent on various actions.

    Guarding

    • Guarding now uses sword energy instead of consuming ammo. Different guards have different consumption rates, damage resistance and behaviors, so be sure to experiment and find a guard type you like. You'll still need at least one ammo to begin guarding, though.
    • Back during Season of the Drifter, the Stronghold exotic for Titans was introduced, allowing them to guard with relative impunity and opening up a more interesting opportunities for swords to shine in a variety of content which caused us to take another look at the guard function itself. Although the guard function has always existed, it was never really considered worth the cost. With this change, we hope that players will use their guard intelligently to protect themselves instead of it being an almost unused button. Rest easy, Stronghold has also been modified to still allow Titans a unique guarding experience.

    Light Attacks

    • Grounded light attacks for all Swords will now loop for an infinite combo, and all Swords can cleave.
    • While the basic three hit combo is quite a staple of melee weapons in many games – In a shooter this leaves the player extremely open to enemies. By letting the light attacks loop, we also push them and the heavy attacks apart further. Cleaving on light attacks was previously only on the Aggressive Swords, but we opted to add it to the rest of them for more hack 'n slash.

    Heavy Attacks

    • Heavy attacks now consume Sword energy. While you are always able to perform a heavy attack, the attack is stronger when you have full energy, and weaker when you don't.
    • A lot of swordplay in many situations simply boiled down to endlessly mashing the heavy attack button instead of mixing up attacks which wasn't quite the most interesting experience. Do note that aerial heavy attacks as a general rule do not consume Sword energy, but that can vary based on the Sword.

    Shield Bypass

    • A portion of most Sword attacks can partially bypass elemental shields.
    • We added this to give Swords a little bit of a personality difference from shotguns who share a very similar role in combat as powerful CQC weapons.

In general, Swords have also had some of the damage amounts for different attacks changed, and the various Sword perks have been adjusted. So you'll want to experiment a bit after the changes hit. We do hope you'll enjoy the changes.

Hotfix after Hotfix, Destiny Player Support is here for you. Timetables, known issues, and frequently asked questions are handled with care. They approach each conversation with white gloves and gold standards.

    This is their report.

    CONTRIBUTING TO EMPYREAN RESTORATION

On Tuesday, the Empyrean Restoration went live. Player Support noticed that some players were confused on how to participate and contribute their Polarized Fractaline. To do so, players must complete the Bright Light quest from Saint-14. To unlock this quest, players must complete the following prerequisites:

    • Complete the following quests from Osiris: A Matter of Time.
    • Then, complete Saint-14's quests: Tribute to the Colonies, Cornerstone, and A Guardian's Duty.

    CRIMSON DAYS AHEAD

Next week, Crimson Days returns to the Crucible. Our Help article will update on February 11, 2020, to bring you updated information about the event, including that it will end at the weekly reset on February 18.

Here are a few known issues about the event:

    • Players will be unable to accept Lord Shaxx's "Fire of the Crimson Days" emblem if they already have this emblem in their inventory. Deleting the emblem will allow them to accept the new one and complete the "Welcome to the Crimson Days" Milestone.
    • Players who are removed from a match and rejoin will not be able to respawn until the current round ends. These player will see "Waiting for Ally to Revive" for the remaining duration of the round.
    • Crimson Days bounties do not advance the Crucible Bounty Vendor Challenge.

    HOTFIX 2.7.1.1 AND RESOLVED ISSUES

Next Tuesday, February 11, we will release Destiny 2 Hotfix 2.7.1.1. This update will resolve some issues currently affecting players. Here is another preview of some of the issues that will be resolved:

    • The Efrideet's Gift Triumph will retroactivity unlock for players who turn in 50 Iron Banner packages in Season of the Dawn.
    • The Get Closer pursuit will no longer have its progress reset when resetting Infamy. This is retroactive and will auto-complete for any player who has already been above Mythic rank this season.
    • A Season 9 Iron Banner Triumph has been added that tracks purchased packages from Lord Saladin. This is also retroactive.

Additionally, here's the timeline for the Destiny 2 Hotfix 2.7.1.1 release on Tuesday:

    • 8:00 AM PST (1600 UTC): Destiny 2 maintenance will begin. Players may experience sign-on issues during maintenance.
    • 8:45 AM (1645 UTC): Players will be removed from activities and will be unable to log in until 9 AM.
    • 9:00 AM (1700 UTC): Destiny 2 Hotfix 2.7.1.1 will be released and players will be able to log in.
    • 10:00 AM (1900 UTC): Destiny 2 maintenance will end.

    CURRENT KNOWN ISSUES

While we continue investigating various known issues, here is a list of the latest issues that were reported to us in our #Help Forum:

    • Players are continuing to report increased Tower load times after Update 2.7.1.
    • The Playin' the Odds emblem doesn't drop and cannot be reacquired from Collections. While we investigate, the only way to receive this emblem right now is to reset your Infamy rank three times in one Season.
    • In the Bright Future quest, Orbs of Light that are collected sometimes are not accurately reflected in the quest's progress. Some players have reported that deleting or claiming a bounty may help with progression issues.

For a full list of emergent issues in Destiny 2, players can review our Known Issues article. Players who observe other issues should report them to our #Help forum.

Over the years, there have been quite a few "metas" in Destiny 2. Different Legendary weapons will take the spotlight from time to time, sometimes usurped by a truly Exotic underdog. This week, our winner brings a montage using every exotic in the game.

Winners will find their new MotW-themed emblem in their collections within the next year or so. If you have some sweet clips or a fun montage, make sure to submit it to the Community Creations page. For carnage, or a chance for a sweet emblem, apply within.

We're almost to the weekend, but we'll be scouting the Destiny Fashion scene for combinations worthy of an emblem. In case you missed it, we kicked off another Fashion Week on Tuesday. Only requirements: the Star Light, Star Bright emblem from the Guardians for Australia foundation effort, and a good eye for fashion.

Reply to this tweet with a picture of your Guardian and the emblem equipped. If we retweet you, the Levante's Prize emblem will be granted to you within a week. Here's a quick example of a recent winner:

If the Level 7 Estimates are Correct, it Will Take About 2 Full Years' Worth of Man Hours Just Pressing the Donate Button to Complete.

    Posted: 06 Feb 2020 10:35 AM PST

So estimates are that Level 7 is going to be between 5.9BN and 7.7 BN Fractaline to complete level 7. Since it takes approximately 3 seconds per 100 donated, it will take about 2 years' worth of actual man hours to donate that much. Bungie, plz.

Freelance survival playlist tip. If both your teammates just died, don't be a hero, fall back and wait for them to respawn. Regroup with your boys and then try again. I always see people push 3 players by themselves. Why waste that life???

Bungie, Can We Please Change Eververse Back So That We Can See All the New Stuff Regardless of Class?

    Posted: 06 Feb 2020 04:34 PM PST

It's really annoying that in order to see warlock specific stuff, I need to be on my warlock. Before I could just be on my hunter, which is my main, and buy whatever I wanted for my other characters. Now I have to deal with swapping characters back and forth and dealing with more load times.

Bungie, 90 percent of the community has one character for each class. Please don't make your microtransaction store a hassle for us to use.

So since Crimson Days is back, can I finally get an emote of my guardian sitting on a couch shoving Rocky Road in his mouth ?

    Posted: 06 Feb 2020 12:56 PM PST

Listen I don't get romance IRL Bungie so my guardian isn't getting it either. I need this emote to display my loving relationship with Rocky Road and Mint Chip.

On a side note can each class get different flavors. Hunters- Rocky Road Warlock-Mint Chip Titan- Cherry Swirl

Festering Core, Broodhold and scarlet Keep need emblems and strike exclusives.

    Posted: 06 Feb 2020 02:12 PM PST

Every other strike has atleast an emblem ( with 2+ variants. ) And a single weapon.

This is a very good and easy standard to sustain. Particularly if we have to do strikes to get prisms/shards.

Also. All strikes should have random rolled weapons ( Y2) so that the neat strike exclusives are farmable and usable, some of the weapons are still Y1.

TL;DR I'm a whiner who wants moar loot. Gimme.

    Posted: 06 Feb 2020 11:53 AM PST

Title says it all. Would love to have a higher sensitivity like 7-8, but when I ADS more like a 4-5. On PC, mouse and keyboard gets an ADS sensitivity modifier, having the same for controller users would be nice.

Gear and Inventory Management is one of the least enjoyable aspects of the game, coming from me, personally

    Posted: 06 Feb 2020 04:26 AM PST

Today I did something that made no sense. I decided that I didn't want to turn in my rewards of fractaline and light fused fractile...

...because it would take too much time.

I'm not trying to be critical, my brain is just always looking for things to improve, and naturally I see a lot of possibilities to improve the Destiny experience. Interacting with the community event (love the event btw, nothing wrong with it) highlighted two things that really should be fun, which are actually making me want to play the game less.

    1) claiming rewards and interacting with vendors

    2) getting lots of armor

So 1. Getting lots of rewards should be fun, right? You do some hard stuff, you go to a vendor, you get to exchange something for a reward. The problem is that unlike in D1, it take significantly longer to get these rewards (EDIT: longer to claim the rewards, not to get them. Claiming the rewards is the issue), and at every turn there are buffers, animations, and roadblocks that slow down the player, and generally makes what should be something hilarious and exciting (turning in a ton of rank up packages at once and being showered in a stupid amount of loot) into something time consuming that feels like work.

Things that I feel like would help with this: (TL;DR suggestion for a fix)

    >>> Larger resource options at the spider

    ---+ 50k glimmer for 100 of a resource ---+ 50 resource for 10 shards

---+> a lot of players (I would venture to say that most who use the spider) buy materials en masse, so this would save a lot of time. Rarely do I need less than 50 more of a resource.

    >>> Streamline the vendor route of reward claiming such that there are as few interactions and as little time as possible between the player interacting with the vendor, an receiving the reward.

---+ vendor redeem options that reduce or eliminate buffers/ animations ---+ vendor redeem options that that fully rank up in 1 click, as opposed to having to exchange a lower amount multiple times. ---+ vendor redeem options that eliminate wait for an animation and click the engram after a rankup.

---+> redeeming rewards should be a substitute for a final loot explosion out of a defeated boss, but it feels like the boss here is a slide rule. some of these changes or options would make it so that players with tons of resources can actually spend them without having to take a sick day from work first just to make the time.

And now we reach part 2. Half of the reason why I'm actually dreading turning in the 100 Light-Fused-Fractile that I just bought, and why I might not get any more, despite being able to afford them: sorting through armor.

At present, Armor is a lottery system, which is fine. Its fun to roll the dice, but this lottery system, it feels less about how you win, and more about how you lose least.

Here are all of the random aspects to armor.

    - 3 randomly rolled survival stats

    - 3 randomly rolled ability recharge stats

    - 3 random affinities

    - 1 fixed seasonal mod slot

Lets look at this season. Assuming I want to keep the option of dawn mod builds open for the future, after the season ends, I'm looking to keep at a more or less minimum, 5 armor slots x 3 affinities x 3 classes = 45 armor pieces, just to make sure most of my build options with regards to dawn mods stay open.

That means that if I need arc affinity boots for a build, for example, I have exactly 1 pair of boots to choose from. Oh, I want higher recovery than that piece had? Gotta sacrifice the scavenger mods or the dawn mod, hamstringing the build.

The point is that, as I dig through armor, so much of it is still random and not customizable (affinity, stats) that I'm stuck hording armor pieces I might need in the future, and even so, I basically don't get to choose my stat values at all.

    What would help:

    >>> Ways to customize armor stats, without using armor energy points

---+ idea 1, the first 40/45/50 points in an armor piece are static, all points higher can be adjusted and put into any of the 6 stats via manual toggle. This way, masterworking gives more customizaibility, and higher stat rolls that one gets from endgame activities mean a lot more, since those extra stats can be put wherever a build requires. One can still hunt for strong base stats, but only having one armor piece that 'fits the bill' doesn't mean the build is difficult/impossible.

---+ idea 2, same as idea 1, but the only adjustable stats are the masterworked ones.

---+ idea 3, an extra mod slot costing no energy is added to some or all armor pieces, allowing a boost to one of the 6 stats for free

I would like to remind people that in D1, 3 of the 6 stats were essentially freely customizable, although with less wiggle room. This isn't revolutionary or game breaking, and I feel like it would help make armor feel more... player friendly, rather than an always-lose roulette wheel

    Hawkmoon Painting

    Posted: 06 Feb 2020 11:51 AM PST

Hawkmoon - 24x18" mixed media on canvas

This painting is from late spring/early summer 2019. I completed it with around 10-15 other pieces as I prepared to bring my work to GuardianCon 2019. Hawkmoon is such an amazing design from D1, and it is rife with lore and function that I felt spark real imagery, which I could use to add in some decoration and design elements of my own.

I've been working on re-upping some blog posts with better shots or improvements to the color balance on my digital files, so I wanted to take the opportunity to share these pieces with folks that frequent this subreddit as well.

    I hope y'all enjoy it. : )

PS: Big ups to Bungie for tweeting out my recent Izanagi's Burden painting! Thank you for putting the spotlight on artists in the community. : )

Warning for those raise the Tower Resonance Power by a lot: there is a hard cap of how many generated Fractaline you could get back due to inventory size limit

    Posted: 06 Feb 2020 06:19 PM PST

If you are counting postmaster space in, the cap is at 71 x 9999 = 709,929 Fractaline. And that is assuming you clean out your postmaster and vault all inventory items, which is unrealistic.

Assume that you are going to dump all generated Fractaline twice for greater return at later weeks, the max resonance power to hit the cap is 315,600; if you are dumping 3 times, the resonance power to hit the cap is 210,400.

According to the leaderboard as of now, rank 1 already reach 115,200 resonance power. Keep this information in mind if you are planning to raise the resonance power even further.

(Obviously, this is not an issue for regular player who don't raise the resonance power pass 10,000.)

    Optimized Bounties For 2/6/2020

    Posted: 06 Feb 2020 10:10 AM PST

(Sloane, Amanada, and Zavala sit in front a flimsy card table inside the Exodus Black. Each holds a pair of cards in their hands, while a third pair lay face down in front of Failsafe's interface console.)

    Zavala: Raise.

(Zavala slides half his chip stack into the center of the table. Amanda smirks.)

    Amanda: You're bluffin', old man.

Zavala: Have you met me? I am literally incapable of bluffing.

(Amanda and Sloane glance at each other for a moment, then fold. They then turn to Failsafe.)

Sloane: Failsafe, are you sure you don't want us to show you your cards?

Happy Failsafe: I appreciate your continued offers, persistent Titan, but I assure you my probability calculations are foolproof. I am confident to a degree of 99.99999375% that I have a better hand than the Vanguard Commander, and so I would like to re-raise him by going all in.

(Zavala sighs and folds. Amanda gathers the cards and begins shuffling.)

Amanda: … you guys ever wonder about bounties?

    Sloane: What do you mean?

Amanda: Well, it's just you're always asking Guardians to kill five of this or do three of that… where do you even get the numbers?

(Zavala and Sloane stare at Amanda, clearly not understanding)

Amanda: Like, take Devrim for example. He's always asking Guardians to clear two Lost Sectors in the EDZ. But shouldn't he be asking them to clear every Lost Sector? And clear them for good, so he doesn't have to keep sending people out there?

    (She turns to Sloane.)

Amanda: And like, you're asking Guardians to fly all the way to Titan just to gather five Alkane Dust. You're literally stationed in the command center of the rig, Sloane, and you have an entire army of engineers at your disposal. They can't pick up Alkane on the way to work?

    (Amanda turns to Zavala)

Amanda: And you, Commander – I mean, all due respect, but you're asking Guardians – the same Guardians that killed Crota, and Oryx, and Riven, and all the other raid bosses in D1 that I don't know the name of because the guy writing this didn't play those raids… you're asking those Guardians to kill a couple dozen enemies with bows? Why bows? And why so few enemies? Why not, I don't know, "Kill all the Hive on the Moon until they're all dead or retreating?" Who cares what weapons they use?

(Zavala and Sloane stare at Amanda, uncomprehending. After an awkward silence, Amanda shrugs and resumes shuffling.)

Amanda: Just doesn't make sense to me, is all.

(Amanda finishes shuffling and deals two cards to each player.)

Snarky Failsafe: … yeeeeaah, you guys should probably fold again.

Step 1 - Take a moment to remember Cayde, the only player to ever beat Failsafe.

Step 2 - Pick up the following Dailies. Weeklies can be found here.

    • Saint XIV Daily – The Finishing Touch – Kill 10 Cabal With Finishers

    Planetaries

    • Sloane – Traveler's Chosen – 20 Super Kills on Titan
    • Sloane – Walk the Beat – 2 Patrols on Titan
    • Sloane – Community Service – 2 Public Events on Titan

Step 3 - Follow these steps (any order):

    1. Play one 920 Ordeal. (15 minutes)
    2. Play one match of Supremacy. (10 minutes)
    3. Fly to Titan, pick up Sloane's bounties, and run two Public Events. In between events, grab a "Kill Anything" patrol and a "Collect Stuff" patrol. (10-15 minutes)

Total Non-Elemental Non-Weapon-Specific Bounties Cleared: 13 Dailies, probably no weeklies today unless you still need your Crucibles.

    Total Time: 35-40 minutes.

Note 1: Light day today, but that means you can spend time playing what you enjoy! I'm a big fan of the Inotam fight, and it's a chance at more Fractaline (remember your skimmers). You can knock out an Adventure on Nessus for your Obelisk Weekly as well!

The collections tab for mods has a minor bug that I would appreciate seeing fixed eventually

    Posted: 06 Feb 2020 04:28 PM PST

All of the mods that the player has by default such as precision weapon targeting and large weapon loader are grayed out and thus do not count as collected despite literally every player owning them. I know this doesn't really matter and I would definitely rather see Bungie focus on more important bug fixes, but it would still be cool to see this fixed eventually.

Two months into the season and Polaris Lance is still broken.

    Posted: 06 Feb 2020 01:20 PM PST

It was understandable that this wasn't fixed when the season started. The holidays rolled up right after the update. But losing the extra damage that makes Polaris Lance worth its exotic slot (which it barely is when it works, as it stands) means it's not worth using. Polaris Lance is just a fancy Zen Moment blue right now. And it has been for two months.

Played Destiny 2 on GeForceNOW and it's miles better than Stadia

    Posted: 06 Feb 2020 12:24 PM PST

I set up NVidia's GeForceNOW on my ShieldTV and launched D2 from my Steam library. It played great. It is initially capped at 1080p 60fps but it's pretty solid. You can uncap it in settings if your internet speed is very good. I noticed very minimal lag, if any, and it felt like playing on PC. Compared to Stadia, this just wins on every aspect. You get to use games you already own on Steam, you are playing with other Steam players, so no Stadia wasteland, and at $5 a month with a 90 day trial, it's hard to beat.

Just wanted to let folks know my impressions. If you're interested in cloud streaming Destiny, GeForceNOW is a much better choice than Stadia.
