    Welcome to your Guardian Games!

    Posted: 21 Apr 2020 10:00 AM PDT

    Greetings Guardians!

Today you begin a glorious (and not at all strangely timed) competition to prove, once and for all, which class is the best. And to celebrate the fun, we decided it's only appropriate that you get to rep your favorite class here as well.

Over on the sidebar, you will see a running tally of how many Guardians have chosen each class: mighty Titans, daring Hunters, and clever Warlocks.

    How does it work?

The tally depends on a running count of how many people are sporting one of the three new fancy user flairs we have added into the system. Wear them with pride! You'll be showing them across the entire subreddit.

How can I cast my vote?

Simply log on to https://destinyreddit.com/flair and choose your flair. The three flairs being tracked are named "Guardian Games Titan", "Guardian Games Hunter", and "Guardian Games Warlock". Select these for your username, add an optional text if you want to as well, then hit submit. It's that easy! (If your flair is not showing up, make sure "Show my flair on this subreddit" is on!)

Remember to mark the checkbox 'show flair' on the sidebar so it shows up!

The site works across all systems. Old reddit, new reddit, even on mobile! Nobody should be left out, but please wait about 5-10 minutes for the count to update. We can only keep track of +1.4 million users so quickly!

What will the winning side get?

Every user who stands with the winning side will be awarded One Month of Reddit Gold!

    (Jk, probably just bragging rights)

Can I keep this flair when the event is over?

You certainly can! But to change your flair back, simply revisit the website and select from our hundreds of options. We update the list constantly with each new content drop! Pick your favorites!

    Standard Megathread Rules Apply

This post will serve as the acting megathread for most casual conversation related to the Guardian Games, barring high quality submissions, breakdowns, and rewards. Therefore, most low effort "I'm choosing X because of Y" posts will be relegated to this thread to keep /new somewhat readable.

Good luck Guardians, and may the best class win!

    (It's definitely Titans)

The new seraph event is designed for 9 players, yet the game won’t match you with 9 players to help you beat it

    Posted: 21 Apr 2020 11:06 AM PDT

The new event has all 3 towers up at the end which means 3 guardians to a plate or you will not beat it. But the game won't match you with enough people to actually do it? It's really frustrating trying to get this triumph done

I should add that the difficulty of the activity itself isn't super difficult it's just hard for like 3-4 normal players to complete, if I even get instanced with that many people, usually I load in and sit in an empty lobby for 20 minutes and then try again.

Edit: After about 3 hours of trying I finally did it and now have my almighty triumph, on console the FPS drops are a big boner killer however

    I'm now simp, the almighty!

FED UP: Guardian Games is OBJECTIVELY the Lowest Effort “Event” in Destiny 2 History

    Posted: 21 Apr 2020 01:59 PM PDT

It's literally just the same content that we've been doing in bunker building: Bounties via the game modes that already exist. They couldn't even be bothered to bring back another activity like EAZ or a Forest Gauntlet- lord forbid make a new one for this first of its kind, olympics inspired event. I guess they just figured a scoreboard and some neat decorations would be good enough for us having stuck with his game so late in its life cycle.

For Christ's sake they couldn't even be bothered to draw up an event armor set, unlike every other event of recent memory (as far as we know), they just made class items- but they were sure to stuff eververse with tons of cool new ornaments for real money this season...

Guardian Games does not portray which is the best class

    Posted: 21 Apr 2020 12:23 PM PDT

It's just more boring bounty grinding. Whoever plugs the most time into doing mundane tasks as whichever class wins. I'm sick of it.

It should be an ACTUAL competition.

In a Rumble match, first place gets a gold medal for their class, second gets silver, third gets bronze.

In a Strike, whoever gets the most kills or does the most boss DPS wins the gold, second gets silver, third gets bronze.

In a Nightfall, whoever gets the most points gets gold, etc.

In Gambit, whoever banks the most motes or kills the most enemies or clears the most blockers wins gold, etc.

In a Forge, whoever throws the most batteries gets gold, etc.

I could go on with the other activities in the game, but you get the point.

This is far better than "Kill 50 Crucible opponents". That does NOTHING to distinguish prowess between classes.

Yet again, a hell of a lot of effort has been put in by Bungie to create something ultimately lacklustre. I'm starting to really drift away from this game and it breaks my heart as a D1 vet.

    Edit

Reflecting on my quick brainstorm of ideas, they're not actually that great, but they're definitely an improvement on what we have.

Ideally I'd like some challenges (in bounty form if you INSIST Bungie) that would show that the players had some form of mastery or at least decent knowledge of their classes, Supers, abilities and exotics.

For example, tweak some of my objectives with Super-specific things, like "Clear the entire room in the _____ section of the _____ mission with 1 Super to win a Gold medal"

Stuff like that. The classes would need to know their class abilities and exotics well in order to complete these tasks. Warlocks may need their Dawnblade's Attunement of Flame 'Everlasting Fire' ability to keep the Super going long enough, Titans may need the Doom Fang Pauldrons, etc.

Some real challenges that display your class' prowess over others and incite some healthy competition. The Warlock v Titan v Hunter Crucible Crucible modes people have mentioned in the comments sound awesome too.

Bounty farming really does not take class into account whatsoever. A Hunter can kill 50 Guardians in Crucible at the same rate a Titan or Warlock can.

The loot for GM Nightfalls is unacceptable.

    Posted: 21 Apr 2020 12:42 PM PDT

Just completed my first GM run, we cut it super close finishing with 2 minutes left, and my rewards....

3 Prisms... No exotics, no golf balls, just 3 prisms. Not to mention there isn't even an emblem or anything to show that we completed it. The only way I can show off my achievement is to hopefully complete one each week and rock the title, till then I have NOTHING to show for it. To say i'm disappointed would be a massive understatement.

Edit: A few people have asked what i meant by finishing with 2 minutes left. At 40 minutes you get a message saying something along the lines of "the darkness arrives in 5 minutes". I assumed this would be a wipe mechanic, several people have said the game removes all your revive tokens, and you go on until you wipe or complete the nightfall. I however didn't reach 45 minutes so can't confirm this.

Grandmaster Nightfall proves Bungie still doesn’t understand we want a REASON to grind not just a GRIND...

    Posted: 21 Apr 2020 03:19 PM PDT

We've already had to go over this with them back in vanilla D2 that just adding more difficult activities doesn't excite anyone unless there is something valuable at the end of the chaos. Giving us just better stat rolls on exotics we've already got decent rolls of is not a reason to attempt a disgustingly hard activity.

Can't believe we are back to square one with these guys explaining what incentivizes us to play... just let the Almighty hit us I'm done.

It’s getting pretty old seeing all these cool new armor ornaments being locked behind silver. I miss when earning cool things was behind doing activities instead of money.

    Posted: 21 Apr 2020 11:10 AM PDT

With the launch of the Guardian Games brought on a new set of ornaments for each of the classes. Sadly they're locked behind silver. Just like every other event armor set. It's getting pretty old. Anybody else feel the same or am I crazy?

Fighting Lion is Patched! Here's everything(!) you need to enjoy & master it!

    Posted: 21 Apr 2020 10:51 AM PDT

Fighting Lion is patched. And there's never been a better time to give the best gun in the game a try.

Rather than a huge, long text post about all the intricacies of the weapon, it's perks, unique abilities, armor choices, etc, I put it all in a website:

    https://www.fightinglion.club/

So I built a website to act as a single location for all the discussion and testing for how to use Lion, particularly for PvP.

Here's a summary of the topics covered:

It's about 7,000 words and I hope that it can be of helpful.

I also included the fluff because I really like the lore and art design.

No ads, no monetization, no self-promotion. It's a Jekyll static website hosted on github. :)

    First off,

Hold to fire, release to detonate. No proximity detonation.

    The PvE Basics:

    • Fighting Lion should be hipfired, which lets you move fast and play vertically.
    • Focus on multikills, which will generate obscene numbers of orbs.
    • Don't use it for DPS. Open your DPS with a Lion shot for burst damage, then swap to special/heavy.
    • For your loadout, treat Lion like a primary (pulse, hc, scout, etc) and bring along a special kinetic weapon for beefier targets.
    • In PvE, you can even get a kill first and it'll give you a free reload when you next fire lion!
    • Get the masterwork get tons of orbs!

    The PvP Basics:

Fighting Lion is primarily designed to blint enemies.

blint (verb): to body shot and quickly swap to a primary to secure the kill.

    • Fire your Lion. It does 142 Splash & 26 Direct hit Damage.
    • Clean up with your kinetic. Profit.
    • The Masterwork gives your kinetic Quickdraw+Snapshot Sights+Opening Shot for 3 seconds after firing!

Here's your Get Started page. And if you want more, but don't wanna read 7,000 words, don't worry, there's a TL;DR .

Lastly, I made an updated Showcase & Tutorial video.

You will never be bored with Fighting Lion.

The best weapon is any weapon that you haven't mastered yet. And Fighting Lion has no skill ceiling. There's always more to learn and more to try. Practice, practice, practice & have fun!

Not Being Snarky, Grandmaster Nightfalls Are Very Much NOT Watchable!

    Posted: 21 Apr 2020 07:29 PM PDT

While I was working today, I turned on *big name streamer* while he ran a Grandmaster Nightfall. Forty-plus minutes to slog through a strike that's been around for two years just to see his fireteam wipe at the bullet-sponge boss and I'm out.

The combination of there being nothing new with the difficulty making everything slower removes any interest I may have had in watching these, which contributes even more to me not wanting to play these.

I think I solved the Eververse problem

    Posted: 21 Apr 2020 09:38 AM PDT

I'm Sorry but i'm not enjoying the Guardian games.

    Posted: 21 Apr 2020 02:22 PM PDT

i want to start this post saying something positive, i'm happy we didn't got ANOTHER variation for the infinite forest But on the other hand i'm not happy with this event for several reasons.

First: this competition is just which class can complete more bounties faster, and after half a year of bountiny 2 i'm completely done with them, sorry but i don't have the life force to keep doing these anymore.

Second: I'm not a fan of the cosmetics but i'm lesser fan of the way of obtaining them, in the past events and current seasons they put one per week and you buy the ones you want but in this event you have to pay up 6k dust for the entire set with no chance to get just the chest or just the helmet and as a warlock where only those two things matter i feel it's a steal to buy a whole set that i will use just 2 parts.

Third: i'm not a fan that anyone can grab your laurels, nothing more annoying that clearing a group of ads with a grenade and go to grab them so a hunter comes and sticks his nose where he shouldn't, it's been like 2 hours and i already seen some people do it.

fourth: after the first revelry where i farmed really hard for the arbalest and i had it in like 2 days, i'm not having forces to farm those triumphs to get the machinegun knowing that after this event is going to drop from the first exotic engram i see.

tl;dr: i'm just burned out of doing bounties, and this event is just that "which class does bounties faster" also fuck eververse.

We should get Silver for Purchasing a Season Pass

    Posted: 21 Apr 2020 09:25 AM PDT

All purchased seasons should reward 1000 silver on season launch for those who purchased it. Why? It gives room for players less inclined to open their wallets and imo would improve the general opinion surrounding Eververse. I see no reason purchasing a season should not leave you with 1000 silver.

EDIT: satire but really the amount of cosmetic funneled into EV and the extreme stinginess of the bright dust economy does not make a good system for the player.

There Are Roughly 80 New Items In Eververse This Season, And Bungie Somehow Cannot Make Flawless or Grandmaster Specific Loot

    Posted: 21 Apr 2020 01:16 AM PDT

This is just outrageous at this point. I'm sorry Bungie, I have spent hundreds of dollars over the years on this game through DLCs, but I will still never buy from Eververse as long as it governs our game.

Edit: Good to be on the front page again! This is honestly one of the issues that is breaking the game at it's core and is the reason it does not feel like a looter shooter anymore, as another users post said. Hopefully Bungo recognizes this!

Edit 2: This also brings up another issue about how free to play players pay the exact same prices for Eververse as the players who have paid over 400 dollars over the almost 6 years of this game. It's disrespectful.

Thank you guardians for all the kind rewards! ❤️

u/goldenspacebiker Thank you for platinum 😄❤️

Before you blame titans for using these brain-dead overly-balanced exotics, remember that for the last 3 years we've been begging for Twilight Garrison - an exotic that simply gives us added mobility and requires mastery to be utilized effectively.

    Posted: 21 Apr 2020 08:48 AM PDT

None of us asked for OEM. None of us asked for a dunemarchers buff to 20m. None of us asked for an uncounterable exotic that makes us immune to all damage while sliding and gives us super energy for eating bullets. By far, the most asked for exotic by Titans is twilight garrison. Not an exotic that plays the game for us, but one that simply raises our skill ceiling without actually playing the game for us.

Bungie, we have too many exotics that just give us passive buffs with no effort required. Please just give us Twilight Garrison so our class can have some class again.

I really wish Luke Smith communicated in the same way that Christopher Barrett did.

    Posted: 21 Apr 2020 06:45 AM PDT

The game was in a far worse state, but Barrett would often have brief articles which would explain what they were working on and their best guess as to when we would see it. Dates moved around a bit, but most of the community loved hearing updates and seeing roadmaps of fixes. The roadmap from last season had no fixes, mostly just spoilers. Luke seems to prefer longform communication that we get once or twice a year and has the mentality that people don't want to hear fixing a game is hard, they just want to see it done. I remember the community really loving Bungie's communication during that time, though.

If you’re attempting to complete the Hardcoded Victory Triumph, do it on the Moon. The Seraph Tower event there is your best option.

    Posted: 21 Apr 2020 11:14 AM PDT

This is by far the easiest variant to complete. The Towers are closer together, making it easy to defend multiple Towers at once, and the enemy spawns are from one direction only at each of the Towers (besides the middle one).

Don't forget to use your Heavy Frames and Valkyries either!

EDIT: Wasn't sure which enemy faction was on the Moon this week, but it's Hive currently, which are the easier faction to deal with too. Get it done this week if you can!

Getting what seems to be a cabal heavy slug thrower exotic from this event seems like a lackluster way of getting this type of weaponry.

    Posted: 21 Apr 2020 12:38 PM PDT

Maybe a quest taking us into Ghaul's hidden armory or ripping it from the hands of a colossus? Frankly, getting handed exotics seems a little boring at this point. I know they want everyone to get something for their efforts, but when the effort is so small (like buying a season pass), I feel nothing towards the item.

Trying to limit any salt here, but it is just a strange way of getting it.

EDIT 4: Putting this up top as lots of comments are comparing this to the D1 system of having to unlock your PERKS, which is NOT what this post is saying. This post is talking about having the option of either earning your masterwork through kills, OR buying your masterwork exactly as is possible now. Also, guns, initial post is about guns.

This thought comes from a post on the front page right now, that as part of it suggests bringing back the levelling system on guns. I do and don't agree with this, and posted a comment as such, but I also wonder what peoples' thoughts were on the following:

Currently masterworking guns involves a loop of bounty grinding from banshee and praying for Finest Matterweave drops for anyone who isn't a veteran sitting on a mountain of Cores, and then buying the masterwork levels. Instead, why not earn masterwork levels by killing enemies with the gun?

The kill trackers could be enabled from the start, and a gun can be masterworked by hitting milestones on that tracker.

Naturally this would be weighted for the type of gun, so a primary would need say 200 kills per masterwork level, 100 per level for special, and 50 per level for heavy.

The only thing I'm not sure on would be how to split this between crucible and PvE trackers, as it is a lot easier to get 200 kills with an auto rifle in PvE than in PvP.

This also frees up Cores to be used purely for masterworking armour, which feeds naturally into the Cores - Prisms - Shards loop, and also might help with the current lack of ability to get Ascendant Shards from anywhere but a Master Nightfall, as we'd have more Cores to buy Prisms with, and therefore more Prisms to buy Shards with.

    • EDIT 1: Grammar and Spelling

    • EDIT 2: A comment from u/SpamShadow pointed out that this changes a current process in D2 quite drastically, and he/she has suggested that rather than removing the 'Buy a Masterwork' option, that this could be implemented alongside it, so either buy your masterwork if you want, or grind it out if you don't want to pay. This would probably be the most user friendly way of implementing the above.

    • EDIT 3: Another suggestion from u/Ookami_No_Kage is that we could use cores to re-roll the Masterwork. Building off this, rather than creating a deliberate resource sink by having it as a random re-roll, instead have the option to change it similar to how we change armour elemental affinity, with an exponential cost increase depending on the Masterwork level.

    • Edit 5: Obligatory, Front Page, Hey Look Ma I Made It. Also, thanks for the Silver, kind stranger!

Clearly the Seasonal Model is too much for Bungie to make quality content

    Posted: 21 Apr 2020 08:19 PM PDT

I see no indication that the season pass model has been a net positive for the game. In Destiny 1 Bungie stopped doing the two smaller DLCs after Taken King because it was too much to handle as far as it was stated. So why are we trying to do more frequent content than before?

I know people want to point out content droughts, but that means nothing when the content that we do actually see isn't quality. Every piece of seasonal content has been the same, unimaginative horde mode. I don't say this to be rude, either. It's just the truth. It's functionally been a slight variation on Menagerie each time. What's the point in this content? This lack of creative vision seems indicative of a dev team that isn't given the proper time or resources to produce content of any real substance.

So, rather than paying $30-$40 for one or two solid pieces of content, the community is paying $60 for one piece of kinda ok content and three pieces of pretty bland content that will disappear after 3 months anyway. I can't be the only one who would rather have a couple unique activities that I enjoy repeating versus three activities that are all incredibly similar and I can't even get loot from later on if I want to.

We're paying more for less, in my opinion.

People asked for more content and less content droughts because they enjoyed the content that was provided. It's paradoxical to attempt creating more content, but not make it to the same standard that made people want more in the first place.

Am I genuinely the only one who thinks that the seasonal model is detrimental to the game and defeats the purpose of having new content? Because it seems that the constant stream of content right now is burning people out rather than making them want more.

Thanks for the season slot on EP/Ikelos Armor

    Posted: 21 Apr 2020 11:09 AM PDT

Poking in the API it looks like the EP armor is now rocking a Worthy mod slot.

If your building around warmind cells, that means this armor is back to being a chase item!

Edit: just checked in game, can 100% confirm they listened and added this.
