    Focused Feedback: State of Gambit

    Posted: 20 Apr 2020 02:53 AM PDT

    Hello Guardians,

Focused Feedback is where we take the week to focus on a 'Hot Topic' discussed extensively around the Tower.

We do this in order to consolidate Feedback, to get out all your ideas and issues surrounding the topic in one place for discussion and a source of feedback to the Vanguard.

This Thread will be active until next week when a new topic is chosen for discussion

Whilst Focused Feedback is active, ALL posts regarding 'State of Gambit' following its posting will be removed and re-directed to this thread. Exceptions to this rule are as follows: New information / developments, Guides and general questions

Any and all Feedback on the topic is welcome.

Regular Sub rules apply so please try to keep the conversation on the topic of the thread and keep it civil between contrasting ideas

A Wiki page - Focused Feedback - has also been created for the Sub as an archive for these topics going forward so they can be looked at by whoever may be interested or just a way to look through previous hot topics of the sub as time goes on.

I analyzed almost 500,000 /r/DTG posts from the last two years for our community's general sentiment. Here's what I found (hint: we're not doing so great).

    Posted: 20 Apr 2020 11:10 AM PDT

It's no secret that posts and comments on this sub are feeling pretty negative lately; just take a look at the multitudes of people condemning the current Season of the Worthy and looking fondly at the seasons of the past. But I was curious if we truly were in a worse-off state than we were in prior years, or if we're all just looking at the past through rose-colored glasses.

So, I did some data analysis.

    Post Title Sentiment since Forsaken

Post by post, I went back through time from April 17th 2020 (now) until July 2018 (just before Forsaken launched) to analyze the sentiment of each post title using Google Cloud's NLP Sentiment AI. Each title is represented by a single number representing how positive or negative the content is, on a scale from -1.0 to 1.0. A score of -1.0 means the content was extremely negative, 0 means completely neutral (or mixed), and 1.0 means extremely positive.

For example, this real post title:

    Crucible Matchmaking is Completely Broken

is scored as a very low -0.8999999761581421, while this post title:

Vosik's and Aksis' wipe mechanic from WotM were so cool and I wish bungie does more of that stuff in the future

scored a very high value of 0.8999999761581421.

Most post titles were somewhere in between. For example, this post:

Don't be THAT guy in the crucible.

    scored a neutral 0.0.

As you can see in the chart above, things were pretty positive all throughout the last two years (with a couple of dips here and there), but community sentiment took a nosedive right after Season of the Worthy launched.

Here's that timeframe zoomed in a bit, showing the average sentiment of each day over the timeframe (the above chart averages each week):

Post Sentiment around Season of the Worthy

You can clearly see anticipation build all throughout the end of Season of the Dawn, only to take a sharp downturn right after March 10th (the new season's launch). Since then we've been slowly becoming more positive, but sentiment hasn't reached pre-SotW levels yet.

Since I had the data, I also took the time to chart the number of posts over the same timeline:

    Total Posts since Forsaken

It's cool to see how bursty our posts are after every major event, and how quickly they tail off to a baseline of ~3000 a week as we get bored.

Finally, here's some statistics about my analysis:

Why is it so hard to understand that in order for an activity to succeed, or at least have a playerbase, it needs to have loot worth chasing? Menagerie, Gambit, Last Wish, SOTP, Leviathan, Dreaming City all have weapons that people are still chasing which has kept people playing.

    Posted: 20 Apr 2020 02:10 PM PDT

We all know the gun play, lore, art and music are amazing in this game. We love that stuff, but that isn't why most people still play. We play because of the loot chase (imagine that). Since SK released, the chase has been almost non existent.

SK/Undying - moon weapons all had better versions somewhere else. Even when you got a god roll, it was more of a "meh" reaction and it went into your vault. Undying weapons were all garbage compared to what we already had.

Dawn - really cool looking weapons, some of which had some pretty insane perks, but they were WAY TOO EASY to farm and were still outclassed by previous weapons.

Worthy - the shotty is the only gun worth a shit from what I gather, and is STILL outclassed by previous shotguns.

I've played 1000+ hours since SK released, and a huge majority of it was farming for previous weapons in the activities I mentioned in the title. After getting most of what I wanted, I went into PvP and got all the pinnacles available.

The other day I finally got my Spare Rations with RH/RF and since then I've struggled to even log on. The chase for me is gone. Ascendant shards are too hard to get so screw dealing with armor, and there is nothing left to get in PvP.

Sure, I play a ton and I'm not complaining about lack of content at all, but if the current season had more amazing weapons like in previous seasons/years, I'd still have plenty to do.

TLDR: We need a reason to play the game. Give us fun, great loot and we will continue to enjoy the game. Give us the shit you have over the past few seasons and expect more rapid decline in population.

The Absalom Knife ship has one of the laziest ship designs in all of destiny.

    Posted: 20 Apr 2020 07:37 AM PDT

This is the reward for completing the main season quest, it's literally a Common ship like the ones you see from Amanda Holliday but with the Rasputin logo slapped on the back, i know Eververse posts can be annoying at times but come on, this isn't even close to trying to make good looking in-game rewards...

if the Menagerie had a rotating loot pool, it could be relevant indefinitely

    Posted: 20 Apr 2020 07:42 PM PDT

The Menagerie has been widely recognized as one of the best activities to grace the destiny universe, if not THE best. The rune system, the aesthetic, the chalice upgrades, etc. We all know and love this activity, and I think it should still be capitalized on. I think the rune combination weapons should be on a rotation, or even random! For example, a rune of desire + any green rune, rewards waking vigil (cracked btw) every single time. I think that maybe this rune system could be on a weekly rotation or weekly randomization system. This would give more guaranteed loot, which we all love. So, one week, the waking vigil is dropping in the 150 rpm HC spot, and the next week could be Dire Promise, Spare, maybe even a random rolled version of Rose (spicy). I think the weapons specific to the activity (Beloved, Austringer) should always stay there though. This would give Menagerie a chance to shine in every season as new weapons come out, and could get players to come back to the most popular activity of D2!

Let me know what you think, I'm sure this has been suggested before, as this sub frequently has creative ideas to improve the game, but I thoroughly enjoyed Menagerie, and wish I could farm more weapons from it!

    Posted: 20 Apr 2020 07:36 AM PDT

Took out their command one by one, woke up the good people of the city, and now half of what I hear is a complicated algorithm to be certain. That's why I started this whole Gambit thing in the first place. People are still waiting for an Imperial land tank outside of Rubicon. No transmat firing.

Dawnblade super is broken on console and it needs to be fixed

    Posted: 20 Apr 2020 11:24 AM PDT

Theres a lot of times where i land a direct hit with Dawnblade, only to deal a random amount of damage, if you watch the video closely, theres times it deals 1 damage, or 2 damage, or up to 180, its *super* inconsistant.

And it doesnt happen with any other projectile based super, Hammers, Shields, Golden Gun, if it lands, it kills.

I've seen a lot of people playing with this super on PC and it doesn't seem to be this inconsistant there.

    See for yourselves

PSА don’t get a physical copy of “Destiny(1) the collection” because all the dlc codes are expired

    Posted: 20 Apr 2020 07:27 AM PDT

So my family back in d1 used to share a PS4 but now we all have our respective console, but since we were all on one console all the dlc was on one acc and we only have one disk which my father currently has. By the time we all got separate PS4's d2 was out so this never mattered, but recently we got a family member to start playing video games and playing destiny 1! So had to get a copy, GameStop (atleast mine) no longer sells just d1 because (and I shit you not) "They made destiny 2 free to play" ;-; (fr?), so I had to get Destiny 1 Collection for $30. Except the dlc codes for all physical copies have since expired, which kinda sucks and is a cash grab on retailers parts. Thankfully this doesn't end bad since I still game share (with the PS4 primary console trick) with my dad and can access the dlc so this doesn't hurt me really and I only really carded about the disk but I thought I'd just warn ya guys.

How much do you want to bet at the end of this season they make us “donate” all of our warmind bits to charge up Rasputin to destroy the almighty?

    Posted: 20 Apr 2020 11:54 AM PDT

Warmind bits are essentially completely useless once you finish leveling up all your bunkers, they'll probably pull some reskinned fractaline donation event for this season.

I love how Minotaurs cheer when they kill you

    Posted: 20 Apr 2020 03:40 AM PDT

Just after you are slain by a Minotaur, watch them, they give a good ol fist pump to the sky. I love this, they actually enjoy a win.

Edit: These comments have been hilarious, until today I used to only view the enemy as an enemy, I've never really noticed this comedy side that Bungie put in the game.

Edit: /U/Awayythrone thanks for the award my first ever :) really enjoyed reading your comments everyone thank you.

So we want a nerf to Auto Rifles because they're too easy on console? Cool, are we nerfing Hunter jumps too?

    Posted: 20 Apr 2020 07:20 PM PDT

Because even on the highest sensitivity, you can't keep your reticle on them at close range. Not many things are easier than double-tapping a button.

Or are we all willing to agree that the arguments about Handcannons needing a faster TtK due to the "required skill" is bullshit?

I recently made a new account, having been a player since 2014, avid fan of the franchise, and good god this game is not good for beginners.

    Posted: 20 Apr 2020 10:00 AM PDT

New lights must be SO confused! You load in to the Game, you beat the cosmodrome, standard first mission everything is great! Woo!

You hit the tower, that's a quest, then there's another quest, then there's 8 more tutorial quests, and one for each planet. There's now OVER 20 exotic quests you can pick up, there's 5 campaigns, 4 of them titled "legacy", but still required for certain quests or triumphs.

There's just so much in the game it's absolutely overwhelming! I can see now why new people struggled to get into the game.

I made the movie: The Visual Image of Destiny

    Posted: 20 Apr 2020 05:14 AM PDT

Hey guys, i got something for u! In this large video I wanted to tell you why Destiny stands out from the other games of the genre. Why players so eagerly keep in mind the image of their opponents, the brands of weapons and the armor of guardians. And to whom the world of the game owes its image. I did a big job, so hope you enjoy the movie.

Audio in video on russian language, but i add a full english subs! Enjoy!

    The Ultimate Guide to Blacksmith

    Posted: 20 Apr 2020 01:18 PM PDT

Hi Everyone! I am a long-time destiny player with thousands of hours in this game since release. Over the past several months, I've completed the vast majority of the titles in this game when they came out (aside from the Gambit ones), and I want to provide my guide for these titles – starting with my first title and my personal favorite, Blacksmith. My guide has a complete breakdown of everything in the collections badge, the forge triumphs, and the raid triumphs along with videos and my own personal tips.

    Guide to Blacksmith

I hope some of you find this helpful. I've been quite bored since quarantine started and wanted a way to keep up my writing skills while giving back to this community. I plan to do guides for Rivensbane, Shadow, Enlightened, Harbinger, Cursebreaker, Wayfarer, and the PvP ones if anyone is interested.

    Cheers!

Reminder that Astrocyte Verse is still bugged, and when used in smoke it turns you into a human slingshot that kindly introduces your face to the ground and kills you.

    Posted: 20 Apr 2020 07:15 AM PDT

Title basically. A fix would be nice, since I don't find it amusing killing myself whenever I am fighting a hive wizard or trying to escape a hunter smoke bomb in crucible.

The reason classes get so defensive with over-tuned exotics like OEM or wormhusk is because of bungies nerf philosophy.

    Posted: 20 Apr 2020 06:19 AM PDT

Its terrifying to have your favorite playstyle or neutral exotics completly butchered because it was buffed too heavily the season before. Its not very 'play your way' to make exotics useless following nerfs. Thats why when you call for wormhusk, antaeus, or dune marcher nerfs you get REE'd to the shadow relm.

Enemies should show what debuffs they have as symbols above their health bars

    Posted: 20 Apr 2020 08:44 AM PDT

More info couldn't be bad, and it would be easier to tell when a debuff wears off or is actually working.

edit: debuffs like disruption break have little to no visual cue and is hard to tell when the buff has worn off. It's a simple quality of life change, if anything it's something that could be implemented as an option.

Bungie you have the formula for great seasonal content already and you dont know it

    Posted: 20 Apr 2020 02:56 PM PDT

No... it wasnt from any of the D2 seasons... it was a free update on april in D1...

    Remeber the D1 april update?

That update is literally what season should be:

    1. Take an activity already in the game, and update the crap out of it. In D2 it could be anything from Blind Well, EP, Menagerie and strikes, and make them have new mechanics (specialy on strikes), and new loot for all of them

    2. Add new strikes, even if a single strile only... make a new strike every season instead of those goddam heroic Lost sectors and Bunkers

    3. Make new stuff for more than one section of the game... The april update made old stuff new... take the same principle and apply it to stuff like patrol geometry at the very least

    4. VENDOR REFRESHES!!!

If you think of these updates as Way too Much for Bungie compared to what they already offer... look at this

    • Seasonal activty ==>

An actual hoard mode for infinite forest (season of dawn). Imagine if the sundial was an virus like inicitive of Osiris to use the infinite forest to actually travel back in time? And the sundial was fighting in actual multiple timelimes imside the forest?

    OR

a matchmade escalation protocol but with cabal and new bosses/mechanics (season of the worthy), Raputin repurposes the mars towers to work like communication beacons allowing him to reconect and rebuild satalites to fight the almighty

    OR

New Menagerie chalenges with new runes for new loot (Season of the opulent space rhinos)... This one doesnt have any story exolanations... but if calus ever comes back to the current story as a season, there you have it

    OR

Update to strikes with new mechanics and new context to them (Season of the doritos, imagine that! The doritos ressurect a Bunch of strike bosses with new mechanics and exclusive loot)

    • Bunkers/obelisks ====> updates to Destinations with some new vex invasion like events but turned up to eleven contextualizing the world and make it alive (Imagine if the cabal were constatly invading mars? Trying to domimate rasputin... some akin to the taken invasions could also work when the doritos arive

    • Heroic lost sectors =====> New strike... with exclusive loot.. even if it is a singular new weapon, make it have some special perk lile the wardens law one, just dont abandon the weapon lol

    • Seasonal story content ====> keep this one... this is actually quite nice

    • Eververse refreshes =====> updates to vendors (less likely to happen), at the very least do alternate between one season for crucible and another for vanguard (fuck gambit, if anything leave that refresh for the fall expansions)

Most of this stuff comes down to: turn Passive stuff like bounties and shitty one dimensinal PE Ball simulator, to New LOOT and NEW MECHANICS, for stuff that the world already has... Save the Big revolucionary activities for the fall expansions (maybe add 2 for each expansion) instead of trying to make rushed attempts during seasons like sundial and Vex offensive

The game is near it's 4th year and Guided Games are still in BETA

    Posted: 20 Apr 2020 10:26 PM PDT

    Guided Games

This got zero improvement as i know since D2 released. I suggest to make it as matchmaking for Master and Grandmaster Nightfalls at first with experienced players.

Players can't guide others if they haven't completed a Nightfall previously at least 5 times. There would be a register number of completion in players emblem.

Players who guide others would get DOBLE loot (as we had recently as a bug).

When matchmaking is done, players will have few minutes to talk about strategy before the Nightfall begins with a " ready " button option.
