    Patch Note Preview: 2.8.1.1.

    Posted: 28 Apr 2020 11:06 AM PDT

    Source: https://www.bungie.net/en/News/Article/48980

This Wednesday, April 29, we're planning to release Destiny 2 Hotfix 2.8.1.1. This patch will have fixes for bugs that have popped recently, and also has a quick tuning pass for a weapon that's been shining a little too bright in the Crucible since Season of the Worthy began.

Hard Light, a name that may either strike fear or pure joy in your heart, will be the subject of today's article. Here are some notes from the team on how this weapon will be tuned come tomorrow morning:

Dev Team: Hard Light has been at the forefront due to a combination of recent adjustments to improve its usability and the adjustments to Auto Rifles that came with patch 2.8.0.

Most of the adjustments coming on Wednesday are to address its usage for mouse and keyboard users since the ability to precisely aim regardless of range allows you to use the weapon at longer distances, on top of being able to use ricochets more effectively.

Although weapons like the Fighting Lion can also do what Hard Light does for indirect fire, they are generally less effective during a direct confrontation. Hard Light boasts a lot of great stats, and its impact grows with more players using it - eventually no cover is safe. As such, we're reducing some of the aspects that allow for indirect fire and unexpected lethality in odd scenarios, while still retaining some of the bonuses to keep the flavor.

    • Hard Light

      • Hard Light's damage falloff now floors at 0.7x (Auto Rifles use 0.5x standard).
      • Split ricochet bonus damage between PvE and PvP.
        • PvE damage remains at 2.0x damage.
        • PvP damage is now 1.35x damage.
      • Removed a hidden recoil adjustment that made the weapon more stable than intended.

Stay tuned to Bungie.net for official patch notes, and @BungieHelp on Twitter for updates on our release timeline.

Capping the light level in gm nf is proof to me that infinite light level shouldn't have existed in this game.

    Posted: 28 Apr 2020 01:55 PM PDT

Now since content is starting to get light level capped, it makes the exp system more obvious that it's only there to incentivize exp grinding because that's how the season pass also works.

All it's done is make exp farming a thing, almost messed up trials, and gives a false sense of progression since all activities do have a soft cap on them. Like being 1000 in a 920 LL activity won't give you much more of an advantage than a 950, and now being over 1025 doesn't even matter in a 1050 (which is good in a way cause there needs to be some content like that for people like esoterickk and them) but it makes the progression in the game all messed up.

Might as well make the power cap at 1025 this season and left it there.

There should be exclusive cosmetic items tied to unlocking a Title. (Concepts Included)

    Posted: 28 Apr 2020 09:52 AM PDT

    Rivensbane/Cursebreaker - Queensguard Cosmetics:

    Blacksmith - Black Armory Cosmetics:

These are just examples. But I think that the coolest effects/cosmetics should be tied to Titles, given that Titles take the most amount of effort, time, and commitment to unlock. The harder the Title, the higher quality and quantity of cosmetic rewards. And before you comment -- NO, purple text underneath your name is not enough to honor the effort, dedication, and time it took to unlock the Title, especially if it's a rarer Title like Blacksmith, Unbroken, and Shadow.

Here's a few other concepts that could be used as the 'Exclusive Title Emblems' and accompanying 'Armor Effect/Aura':

EDIT: Unlocking the Title should also greatly increase the drop rate of raid-exclusive exotic(s) awarded from the raid that you were required to complete flawlessly (i.e. Blacksmith = Anarchy, Always on Time). For Flawless, greatly increase the drop rate of the Trials Ghost Shell from winning Trials matches, along with the Flawless Sparrow which drops exclusively from the Lighthouse chest.

I ran a Forge with a guardian that was running around behind me picking up radiant batteries and throwing them off the edge so that we wouldn't complete the Forge. This perfectly sums up the toxicity in the design of this event.

    Posted: 28 Apr 2020 12:00 PM PDT

In 11 runs of the Forge today, we completed 1. Most of the time, guardians were just leaving once the boss fight was triggered. Other times, guardians farm for a bit and once we hit about 10 minutes into the activity, someone inevitably would start trying to complete it. Next thing I see, someone leaves the Forge. The guy throwing batteries away was just the icing on the cake. The Gold medal for the Forge requires 5 completions and it isn't looking likely today.

We had 1 Forge reset in the middle of the 1st round. We had one round where we made it to the tank but the Tank froze in place and took no damage. Sometimes, batteries can't even be picked up. This is frustrating considering you load into an empty Forge or a Forge with only 1 other guardian 25% of the time.

I really wish the game design was better in thought and execution.

Edit: Thanks to those who offered suggestions. I went to LFG and found people with the same goals. We just breezed through it. I won't be depending on the random matchmaking anymore. Lesson learned. I appreciate your help.

Let us dismantle Modulus Reports in bulk

Or speed up the dismantle time. Or let us carry more. This seems especially relevant now due to the forge medals being a thing.

Can we just get rid of Token Systems and go back to the D1 Reputation System.

    Posted: 28 Apr 2020 07:40 AM PDT

However, the one thing that I believe is hands down better in D1 than it is in D2 is how the reputation system works. In D1 there are no tokens, completing different activities gives you reputation, and when you rank up, you can choose from an armor piece and a weapon. D2 requires you to gather tokens, then turn them in to get a rank up. You can't choose between armor and weapons, and the reputation sources are so much more limited. In D1 you would get vanguard reputation from completing patrols, vanguard bounties, and strikes. In D2 you ONLY get vanguard tokens from bounties. Also, many different vendors in D2 have loot you can get from it that says it'll come from rank up packages but you can't rank up with them, like the Drifter.

D2 has many things that are better. For one thing, the game just feels smoother to play, and I prefer being able to run it on PC cause keeping track of enemies in D1 is pretty damn hard.

Also, many different vendors in D2 have loot you can get from it that says it'll come from rank up packages but you can't rank up with them, like the Drifter.

Essentially, what I think should be done (maybe not exactly, but this is just a suggestion) is have the factions (not the 3 factions from the faction rally stuff) like the vanguard, crucible, gambit, calus, black armory, etc... use the system from D1

Also, something that would be nice, would be an option to pledge to different factions like in D1 and early D2. I'm NOT saying to bring back faction rallies, but pledging to a faction (Dead Orbit for me) and getting reputation for the faction while doing vanguard activities, (like strikes, patrols, missions, bounties) is actually making me want to do patrols in D1, while in D2 I avoid patrols whenever possible, because they simply don't give anything good. Also, the thought of the Drifter vs Vanguard quest having it be so you pledge to Drifter's Crew (I'm not sure if that would be the official name for it) and you getting reputation with Drifter for basically making him look better by you completing vanguard missions and being associated with him. Or also doing the same thing with Ada-1 or Calus. I feel like this would help Trials as well, because instead of a token system, just give more reputation for completing matches higher up in the card (and obviously more reputation for winning, and more reputation for going flawless) while still giving the different weapon rewards for the 3, 5, and 7 wins as well.

For An Example on How I would Reward Reputation

    Faction Reputation Sources
    Crucible Crucible Matches, Bounties
Vanguard Strikes, Patrols, Vanguard Bounties, Heroic Missions, Public Events, High Value Targets.
Cabal Empire (Calus) Menagerie Encounters (like prison of Elders), Leviathan Raid Encounters, and a smaller amount from getting Vanguard Reputation cause it would make him look better to them (If Pledged to the faction)
Drifter Gambit, Gambit Prime, Reckoning, and a smaller amount from getting Vanguard Reputation cause it would make him look better to them (If Pledged to the faction)
Ada-1 Successfully Completing a Forge, Running Scourge of the Past, Completing Bounties, Completing Frames, and a smaller amount from getting Vanguard Reputation cause it would make her look better to them (If Pledged to the faction)
Planetary Vendors Strikes, Patrols, Public Events, High Value Targets, Bounties (Blind Well, Shattered Throne, and Last Wish for Petra; EP for Ana Bray; GoS, Altar, and Pit for Eris)
Rahool Decrypting Engrams, Gathering Materials similar to the house banners and encryption codes from D1 and getting the glimmer from them.

TLDR: Please bring back the reputation system from D1, it made it so doing anything felt like you were getting rewarded for you're time.

Edit: As multiple people down below have stated, you do actually get tokens just from running strkes. I'll admit, due to very rarely running strikes, and almost never looking at the lot I got due to it only being like 5 blues, I forgot that you do get tokens from just running strikes. My mistake, sorry.

Yet another reason why Exodus crash is the most god awful strike in Destiny. How many Overload Champions can we pour into one area?

    Posted: 28 Apr 2020 11:12 AM PDT

Why even put this as an ordeal? Overload Fallen Champions are the worst champions so far in this game. This has been communicated very clearly. Now lets look at the "defend ghost" portion of this strike. This is on Heroic mind you. Not one, 2, 3, or even 4 of these bastards in one area. 5, 5 of these grade a turd nuggets in one area. Granted, Heroic is pretty easy, but its just another addition to an already terrible strike that the majority hates.

    Some other notes:

Not enough enemies to get high scores on heroic or legendary in some cases

A part of the strike that awards zero points and must be completed to advance. Why,

The exact moment I stopped giving a shit about Seraph Towers

    Posted: 28 Apr 2020 07:12 PM PDT

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DaRXoa-aSc4

A challenging fight is one thing, but having double yellow bars jumping towards every tower every second, while also having Legionnaires and Psions jumping past you while you take on that yellow bar, all locking down the tower practically every cycle, while more than one tower is up at the same time splitting up all the randos making it impossible to coordinate...

And what's the reward? Some warmind bits and the satisfaction of a Job Well Done?

I'm not done with the game in general, but at this rate I'm more than willing to just let the Almighty hit the City and end it all.

Bungie, remove the high-frequency buzzing in the Drifter’s room.

I've got pretty sensitive hearing, and I can't stand having to visit the Drifter.

There's a very loud 15k Hz tone (as seen in the above frequency analysis) that's played in his area, and it is really, really annoying.

Please remove that tone, especially considering your attention to accessibility in your work. Your sound design is amazing, but this one area is like nails on a chalkboard.

Bungie's hidden prediction in medal design: Titans getting Gold, Warlocks — Silver, Hunters — Bronze matches the ribbons on medals, 6 days in a row.

    Posted: 28 Apr 2020 07:46 AM PDT

Take a look at this image, showing the podium and medal designs.

Notice how ribbons match the winning place, now 6 days in a row.

    Coincidence? I THINK... likely.

Still, it's funny how these icons correctly predict the seemingly unchanging winning order.

This season was meant to be about the sun eating machine falling from grace from outer space onto our heads, and yet we can't see it's progress on big red's system map? What gives? Old razzmatazz is tracking the incoming doom Doritos just fine, can't we get a small red dot or something to show us where the almighty is and how it's drifting through space getting closer?

I understand priorities and whatnot but I just think it would really cement how mighty the almighty problem is if we as guardians could see it also encroaching on earth.

Exodus Crash Energy Spikes - A Plea to the Community

    Posted: 28 Apr 2020 02:13 PM PDT

tl;dr version: Hang out by Failsafe, collect energy spikes, kill Pikes and Spider Tanks, be an Ordeal Champion, collect everlasting gratitude!

The Ordeal this week is the dreaded Exodus Crash. Midway through the strike is a section that intersects the Nessus patrol spaces Exodus Black and Glade of Echoes. Exodus Black features that energy spike collection task, normally a trivial thing as the patrol space is not a darkness zone.

Except, for those running the Grandmaster Ordeal, everywhere is a darkness zone. Worse, while the energy spikes are active, the area spawns packs of Pike Dregs. Many, many packs. And even though the area is a patrol space, these Pikes are still at the +25 light handicap for the GM Ordeal participants, turning what is normally a quick sparrow run into a highly lethal death course.

Following that is Glade of Echoes, where in order to advance the Guardians must destroy a Spider Tank. Not quite as dangerous as the Pike Dreg gauntlet, but still a wide open space with long sight lines and Vandals who can take your head off from across the map.

That is where you come in! For the Guardians who are just passing through the patrol space, these Pike Dregs, Vandals, Spider Tanks, etc are no more dangerous than usual. You can bulldoze through them like an absolute unit, and you can also help collect those energy spikes.

Thus, a plea to Guardians everywhere who are not running the Ordeal: Go hang out in the Exodus Black and Glade of Echoes patrol spaces. Gunsmith bounties, destination medals, Eva bounties, whatever you have on hand, if it can be done on Nessus then do it there! Then, if you should see the elements of the strike appear in your patrol space, jump in and lend a hand. You, the Blueberries, are bone crushing gods compared to the squishy mortals running that strike, so show it off!

You would have the everlasting gratitude of everyone you might help to complete a GM Ordeal, including and especially myself.

Ok, I vented, back to the grind. Expected this Ordeal to be rougher than last week's, and so far have not been disappointed.

    Omolon false advertising confirmed.

    Posted: 28 Apr 2020 12:57 PM PDT

From the hard light lore tab:

"Today, we're introducing three revolutionary products.

The first is a quick-config interface for outgoing damage. The second is a ricochet projectile that bounces off any surface. And the third an infinite range zero drop-off projection weapon platform.

So! Three new products in the Omolon portfolio. But, unlike other product launches, we won't be staggering the releases.

We will be releasing them all at once. In a single device. In extremely limited quantities.

    We call it Hard Light.

But there is one more thing."

"And the third an infinite range zero drop-off projection weapon platform."

I won't stand for these corporate lies.

3+ quitters in 6v6 should activate mercy rule

    Posted: 28 Apr 2020 08:58 AM PDT

Currently it's miserable for everyone if the rest of the team doesn't quit: - Remaining team gets farmed* - Replacements frequently spawn into unavoidable snowballing supers and heavy (so much for #badluckprotection) - Opposing team is bored, and it takes an extra 25-50% longer to finish the match (b/c there's no way to score points w/o opponents to defeat)

*Yes, it's still possible to outplay the opponents when half of your team leaves, but it's unlikely. 3+ people almost never quit unless the opponents are very good players -- and even if you can consistently outplay 2-3 of them, they have numbers on their side (so even marginally coordinated team shooting will wear you down every time).

You may be a great player (or just have a big mouth) and say, "git gud, I always win my 1v6's" -- but again: this situation usually only occurs against opponents that are already steamrolling your team. Unless you're a cheater, you're not going to outplay an entire team of strong opponents.

Concessions: - Maybe it should only be 4+, not 3+ - Maybe there should be a (very) short window to find replacements, rather than triggering mercy rule instantly - Maybe this only applies to console, since PC loading times are much faster. But on PS4, finding even one replacement (much less 3+) often takes more than half of the match, depending on the game mode

Can we improve the strike specific loot

    Posted: 28 Apr 2020 06:02 PM PDT

The strike specific loot is either hit or miss

can we have strike specific loot be up to par with mindbenders in terms of design that is related to the strike.

like Duty Bound, can we give it random rolls and attach purple crystal pieces to it. another cool idea is to keep it a kinetic weapon but make the bullets it shoots purple.

Horrors Least, all you would have to do is make it taken themed

Exodus Crash, you could make a fallen themed gun, like the ones from the House of Wolves DLC. However, it could have the scarf the boss wears wrapped around it.

    and also more.

i feel like some of the weapons that we get from the season pass really should have been strike specific. (Ex. the sniper rifle "Trophy Hunter" would have been the perfect weapon to drop from Insight Terminus strike)

Also i don't think we are ever getting strike specific armor, because it would get in the way of eververse. that's why im not talking about them.
