    This Week At Bungie 4/2/2020

This week at Bungie, we look towards Io.

So, you're a few weeks into your seasonal journey. You've cleared the EDZ Bunker of Fallen, and have been taking the Hive to task on the Moon. You've reclaimed The Fourth Horseman, and maybe even completed its catalyst. So, what's next?

    Image Linkimgur

Tuesday, the final Seraph bunker will open on Io. New Seraph weapons and seasonal mods enter the mix, giving you more options to build your monster-killing machine. Later in the month, Guardian Games will kick off some good old-fashioned Guardian rivalry, accompanied by the Grandmaster Nightfall difficulty.

This week, we'll be parsing through some feedback we've been seeing since the season launched, and discussing next steps for emblem stat trackers.

    Focused Feedback

Over the last few weeks, we've been watching the conversation about Season of the Worthy, and more specifically Trials of Osiris. We wanted to walk through the topics we've been exploring and give some basic thoughts on what we'd like to approach in the future. Some items below may be addressed in the coming weeks, but other may take a season or more to tackle. We're having meetings and discussions daily to determine the best course of action. In the meantime, it's important to us that you know your voices are heard.

    Card Rewards

We've been discussing feedback around a lack of incentive for players to go Flawless. We understand that some players have found the first few games to be more lucrative, which we'd love to shift to the later games. Early card token farming, as some would call it, is something that we are very interested in solving. We want to make sure that every Destiny player who wants to play Trials has something to show for it at the end of a weekend.

Additionally, we've seen feedback that the Flawless chest isn't comparable the rewards associated with grinding out Nightfalls. This is something that we'd love to improve upon. There are quite a few ways we could approach this, and we're currently discussing what would be the best for Trials in the long run.

    Disconnections

We've been investigating an issue that prevented us from enabling rejoin options when Trials first launched. The short version: A player's score could reset if that player left and rejoins the match. Since we've resolved this issue, we are currently planning to enable rejoin in Update 2.8.1.

Additionally, our teams are continuing to investigate the rise in error codes since the launch of the season. This is one of our top priorities, and we've made some progress in identifying the issue. What's left is developing a fix and testing it. We want to take the appropriate time here to avoid introducing any further issues into the game.

    Fair Play

We've seen reports from players that have encountered cheaters in Trials over the last few weekends. What follows is a quick update on what we've been doing to improve your experience, and what we're discussing internally for future improvements. To restate the note in the intro, some of these items may not be addressed for some time, as we're in early conversations, but we wanted to give you an update of what's going on behind the scenes here at Bungie.

    • Our anti-cheat is not as "visible" (by design) as some security products. However, we regularly detect and remove thousands of malicious accounts from the PvP ecosystem.
    • On the front lines we continue to implement new anti-cheat improvements during patch releases (we don't include these in the patch notes for obvious reasons), and are always investigating new approaches as cheat developers adapt to our latest tech.
    • Many of the cheats you may find in the wild already have detections and countermeasures deployed or in development, with work being done constantly to keep them updated against new threats. Because cheat developers don't stop, we know we have to keep working to improve these systems.

      • Note: This is a tricky line to walk, as we don't want to punish any innocent players that may consistently have high stats due to extreme skill, game bugs, or game logic exploits which Bungie considers our fault.
    • We are working with our platform partners to identify ways in which we can further strengthen our security.

    • We are investigating ways in which we can let you know when your reports have resulted in a permanent ban or a temporary restriction.

Additionally, we wanted to give a few tips on information that helps us during our investigations when processing reports from the "Report Suspected Cheating" contact form. Important Note: Do NOT post any of this information publicly. Not on Reddit. Not on the Bungie forums. This information should only go in this specific form. Here's the information we are looking for:

    • Display name of the "known good" player. Is this you? A friend of yours?
    • Display name of the suspect(s) and any other identifying info you have (clan name, Steam ID, etc.)
    • Explain what suspicious behavior was observed.
    • Note the platform the behavior was observed on.
    • Provide a link to the Post-Game Carnage Report (PGCR) on Bungie.net.

    And if possible:

    • Give us links to any video evidence. This could be a YouTube video or archived Twitch stream with timestamps, a clip, or a video you have recorded and shared via a public sharing service. (Sorry, we can't connect to your private Google Drive or OneDrive to view a video).

I know that some of you out there may find the statement of "We're listening!" to be a repetitive cliché of community management, but the first step toward taking action is to listen. We've been collecting your feedback and looking to fully understand the root of the perceived issues that are being discussed by players in the wild. Your voice is important to us, and helps us as we walk the path to what's next in Destiny 2. We'll be sure to keep you updated on our plans as they become more concrete, and we thank you for your continued feedback on the game.

Speaking of the future, let's talk about Stat Trackers.

    Back on Track

At the beginning of the season, changes were introduced to stat trackers to give players more ways to express their achievements in Destiny 2. We introduced weekly Seasonal and Lifetime trackers, and these were completely optional to those who might want to have a clean emblem. With this overhaul, previously featured trackers were removed. Players were quick to highlight this as a pain point, which we're eager to address. This week, we have a list of the stats we'll be bringing back in Update 2.8.1, which is coming later this month.

    Under the Magnifying Glass

No stone is left unturned when Destiny Player Support is on the case. When issues begin to trend, they disperse troubleshooting articles, but also dig deep to diagnose the issues.

    This is their report.

    HOTFIX 2.8.0.2

On Tuesday, March 31, we released Hotfix 2.8.0.2 to the world. While maintenance was underway, we incorrectly noted two items in the 2.8.0.2 patch notes:

    • A fix where bunker upgrades on the Season Pass are only unlocked on one character.
    • A fix where the first weekly clear of a Legendary Lost Sector won't award a powerful drop.

These issues were not fixed in 2.8.0.2. Fixes for these issues will be available with a later update.

    CURRENT KNOWN ISSUES

While we continue investigating various known issues, here's a list of the latest issues that were reported to us in our #Help Forum:

    • We are continuing to investigate increased WATERCRESS and NEWT errors.
    • We have identified an issue with the Felwinter's Helm exotic helmet that allows players to emit a detonation impulse that blinds and weakens enemies on any kill. We have disabled this Exotic until a fix can be deployed at a later date.
    • We are investigating reports of players who have their emblems blacked out completely with power appearing as 0 in the Roster tab of the Director.
    • The Level 32 PDS upgrade can only be used to clear the Bunker by the character who unlocked the EDZ Bunker.
    • Rasputin's Daily Seraph Weapon can only be claimed on the character players were on when Rank 92 of the Season Pass was unlocked – this cannot be claimed on other characters.
    • The Cloak of the Exile Trials armor is not glowing properly when going Flawless in Trials of Osiris.
    • Defeating an enemy with the ranged Celestial Fire Warlock melee ability does not trigger the Warlord's Sigil perk on the Winter's Guile Exotic gauntlets.
    • The lore piece "By Thy Tongue Be Damned" is not properly unlocking for players.

For a full list of emergent issues in Destiny 2, players can review our Known Issues article. Players who observe other issues should report them to our #Help forum.

    Spinning Up

Look, I'm biased towards Omolon weapons. Hard Light was one of my first Exotics back when Destiny first launched, and it's fun to see it take the spotlight for a season. That said, Auto Rifles in general are pretty hot right now. This week's winner takes Suros for a spin, making some great plays in the Crucible.

If you'd like a chance at a fancy new emblem, cook up a creation and post it over on Bungie.net.

The days and weeks are beginning to meld together. As our local weather station put it, we've entered the month of "Maprilay." The sun continues to rise and fall, but it's becoming a little difficult to keep track of what day it is. Thankfully, we have Destiny 2 to bring us together during these times of isolation. Sometimes, the only thing I have to remind me of what day of the week we are living is this every-Thursday mainstay blog article.

I'd like to take a moment to highlight the Essential Workers of the world. While we're all in this together, we couldn't do it without you. You are all Legends in our eyes. You're helping to keep the world spinning in times of crisis, and we cannot thank you enough for your efforts.

We're cooking up some initiatives on our side to amplify the good in this world. More on that soon…

    Much love,

Streamers, don't be toxic or encourage toxic behavior

    Posted: 02 Apr 2020 08:22 AM PDT

A relatively well known destiny streamer lost to one of my friends and her group in trials. That streamer spent the whole match complaining how it was unfair. To be fair, the servers have been a dumpster fire, so it wasn't great for anyone in the game. She was on the top of her team's leaderboard. Instead of seeing that as the cause of his problem, he went on to say toxic things and encourage his community to report her. She got a ton of toxic discord messages from that community and had to change her steam and discord names.

I get its frustrating to lose. I get thats where you make your money. I get that the servers being in such a shitty spot make the game infinitely harder for you to make a living. BUT, understand that people on the other end of the game, whether they win or lose, are largely people who play destiny for fun, accomplishment, or competition. She didn't ask to be matched up with a pro. Servers were in a shitty state for everyone. Her team did their best to beat you. They did. Have a little bit of understanding of the situation and empathy for the type of players that allow you to make a living off this game. Be mindful that you have the influence to make an impact on someone's life with your community. When you do that, make sure its a positive impact or no impact at all.

    TL;DR

Streamers, don't encourage your community to report or harass players you lose to or don't like. If you want to make an impact on the community, make it a positive one.

EDIT: For those asking for the name, its against this subreddit's rules to witch hunt, even as this would just be turnabout. I have not chatted with the friend that this happened to about posting this yet, so I won't be DM'ing the name to anyone either.

EDIT 2: For those saying it won't influence behavior, you're probably right about the ones that intentionally do it like above. u/eel_bagel had a great comment below that if this helps streamers who accidentally send their community on someone, it would be awesome.

This is why steaming is so scary and a lot of streamers don't get that. You can't just shit-talk with your fire team while streaming. Everyone shit talks but when you have a large audience, you need to know that your words are going to have an impact on your viewers and they will go out of their way to fuck with whoever you shit-talk

No content for the planet Titan

    Posted: 02 Apr 2020 05:25 PM PDT

In my opinion, Titan is one of the most interesting and visually stunning planets in the game. There's so much mystery, especially with the life that's swimming in the waters. Titan hasn't seen any content, that I know of, since the launch of Destiny 2. I feel like it's such a waste to have it just sit there. You have planets such as Nessus with an overload of content sitting on top of each other. Raid/Raid layers, the Menagerie, Tribute Hall, Gofannon forge, and I'm sure I'm missing something else.

Edit: IO hasn't seen much content either other than the Whisper mission.

Instead of "fixing" the double reward "Bug" with nightfalls, Keep it.

    Posted: 02 Apr 2020 06:31 PM PDT

Turn it into a weekly thing like double Valor or Infamy and call it Masterwork Week or maybe only on the weekend and call it Masterwork Weekend. All i know is i havent been this motivated to Farm nightfall strikes in ages. This feels and is, rewarding.

Rockets in D2 need serious help. 1 in the tube is not enough. It's time to take notes from Rockets in D1

    Posted: 02 Apr 2020 07:40 PM PDT

In the launch of D2 Rockets were adjusted from their predecessors in D1. Reduced to single shot launchers, were as in D1 2 or even 3 in the tube with tripod was the norm.

My favorite rolls I had on Legendary Rockets to Date

    •Choleric Dragon SRT-49 (Arc/Tripod/Quickdraw/Clusterbombs)

    •Hezen's Vengeance (Solar/FlairedMagwell/Tripod/MirvMini)

    •The Warpath (Void/FlairedMagwell/Tripod/Clusterbombs)

    •Unto Dust 00 (Solar/FieldScout/Tripod/Cluster bombs)

    •Hunger of Crota (Solar/Tracking/Quickdraw/Clusterbombs)

Let's not continue to leave Rockets behind please.

If I were to suggest anything, give all Legendary Rockets a base 2 rocket mag size and then allow Back-Up Mag to add an additional. This way at least Rockets in D2 can be on Par with Rockets in D1.

Any who happen by this post feel free to add your thoughts on Rockets as well

Bungie, this 2x loot bug in Strikes has more people Farming strikes then ever before. Keep this going as a limited time, week long, event to go along with Double XP Week and Triple XP Weekend for Crucible and Gambit.

    Posted: 02 Apr 2020 09:27 PM PDT

I'm not asking for a crazy 6x loot increase like the menagerie bug but Crucible and Gambit have their limited xp weeks. Why not just regularly give us double loot drops in certain activities for a week to boost the number of players in those activities?

Edit: Right now the Nightfall Ordeal is dropping 2x the loot after killing the boss. You have double the chance to get exotics, cores, prisims, and shards for killing the champions and getting Platinum rewards.

Dear Bungie, if you have a hard cap on the amount of emblem trackers, this change was a hard swing and miss.

    Posted: 02 Apr 2020 05:52 PM PDT

We understand that there may be a few stats that are still not present that you're interested in returning. To be clear, we have a hard cap on how many stats can be listed on emblems, so we want to make sure we have room to grow in the future. Please continue to give feedback on what you'd like to see, and we'll keep you in the know of what our plans are.

This is from the latest TWAB. Seeing which trackers would make it back was a bit soul crushing because there were so many unique tracked stats on the emblems before, and all of them told a story. Here's a few examples:

    • Pulse Rifle kills in Crucible on the Redrix' emblem, SMG kills, Sniper kills...

    • Secrets uncovered in the Dreaming City, Warmind Nodes opened, Tangled Shore Baron kills, Seraph Weapon kills...

    • Original Nightfall highscores (it's only ordeals now)...

I do like the new UI, a lot of the new trackers, and the ability to track them per week / season etc, but if there's a hard cap on trackers and we'd lose a lot of our old trackers because of this, I'd much rather have the old system back which had much more unique and specific trackers which told a tale.

The general feedback about the old system is that some people would like to disable the trackers on emblems to not have any numbers on them, and simply adding this feature without removing anything would've been received much more positively. Adding something new and removing something beloved for that is a huge swing and miss.

Just ran Pit of Heresy for the first time last night and I just gotta say, I am so glad Dungeons exist

    Posted: 02 Apr 2020 09:18 AM PDT

My two buddies and I are big King's Fall fans; it was always our favorite raid in the game and we played it all the time back in D1. This year we've generally been more focused on PvP than PvE, but we decided to tackle Pit of Heresy for the emblem and the pinnacle gear.

MAN, what a cool experience. Obviously it has a lot of King's Fall vibes with all of the epic Hive architecture, which we all loved, but most of the encounters sit in that sweet spot of not being QUITE as demanding as a raid but not being a push over, either. It's like running a Nightfall but more engaging and atmospheric.

Back in D1 we had enough friends playing to actually raid, but we've almost never had that in D2, so I'm just SO happy there's something that scratches that itch for three-man fireteams. I know I'm late to the party but great job, Bungo. Can't wait to see what new dungeons are in store in the future.

Hey Bungie, when are you going to fix Polaris Lance?

    Posted: 02 Apr 2020 06:27 PM PDT

Remember back in January when you addressed that the Perfect Fifth shot was canceled when you fired again as it explodes? I do, because it's still happening. I was trying to use Wrath of the Warmind mod to work off of the Dragonfly explosions and the Perfect Fifth to spawn Warmind Cells, and yet, I found to be canceling the Perfect Fifth whenever i shot again after i proc'd it. please fix this. i want to feel thematically appropriate, as it's Ana's gun, and this season has Ana as a focal point.

The nightfall glitch makes me want to have vanguard bonus weeks

    Posted: 02 Apr 2020 03:28 PM PDT

basically it would be the same as infamy or valor bonus weeks but instead would give us more rewards from strikes and nightfalls. 2x weeks would give 2 times the rewards, and 3x would give 3 time the rewards. etc. it would at least be another one of the "hey nothing really new this week but we get more shards" kind of vibe

Sunsetting is going to backfire and the metas in pve AND pvp are going to be the most narrow they've ever been.

    Posted: 02 Apr 2020 11:24 AM PDT

I think the idea comes from a good place but there just isnt enough loot from this season and next to replace years of this game. I personally am also not looking forward to having my inventory be even more crammed as I try to balance the new meta with the old content meta/my standbys.

The viable loadout is going to be razor thin for endgame content. One of two exotics with whatever weapon doesnt suck in the new tiny pool will be the only thing youll see. In fact I have only seen the opposite as bungie has tried to "balance" since opulence. I felt like i had sooooo many options for dps and pve before SK and slowly I have been chipped to virtually nothing.

PVP in theory changing up the meta drastically seems like a good idea but PVP was just looking for some balance attention not a scorched earth protocol. Making us play with new weapons so dramatically shits on all the time investment in pinnacles and rng activities rolls we did to hone our loadout. I feel like most people try to optimize what they like in crucible and make that and their style with it as best as they can. THATS the addiction of it, making me grind some new undoubtedly shallow obelisk 3.0 for worse rolls on old reskins or recycled y1 and a few new guns with wacky unreliable rolls is just going to annoy me. I want my gun to feel reliable, familiar, purposeful. Going into trials week one with the same exotic and an ok roll on whatever my limited legendary season weapon is seems like a pretty mediocre pinnacle pvp experience. Most people get frustrated with their god roll with GOOD perks cant imagine what Ill feel like playing with threat detector lead from gold!

I imagine bungie already knows this and plans on people getting outraged next season which is why they will put a new material in the fall release that LETS YOU BRING ALL YOUR FAVORITE GEAR HOME! Or reskin/reintroduce things instead of having new rewards. Theyll try to use this to buy them another year until d3 comes out. Bungie I personally think your war on power creep after a year where it was so overwhelmingly well-received is a waste of time and resources.

    Make more things more viable

Nothing is worse (imo) is telling someone in an activity that what theyre using isnt going to cut it. Most people who play this game cant use other things besides what they like. The narrower the meta loadout the more picky lfg gets and casuals lose out even more. I get it bungie you want people to try new things but taking away options and preferences I think will alienate players and undermine old content investment.

To the psychonauts who were at Altars of Sorrow last night...

    Posted: 02 Apr 2020 07:17 AM PDT

The Altars of Sorrow have been a source of frustration for me, and likely a lot of other players. It's difficult to get a good team, the last tier is way more difficult than the others, and you never know which players will actually stick around to finish the thing.

Last night, I was almost done with the weekly bounty for completing waves for the AOS. So I head over with the thought that atleast I can complete one wave on my own and then that'll be the end of it.

BUT... soon as I get there, another Hunter jumps in right besides me and we start trashing the Nightmares like Mike Tyson assaulting a toddler. We go through the first wave in a few seconds, and the next wave beckons.

My thoughts? "Eh, might as well go for another run. It'll be good farming." So we go, and then I notice that this random Hunter and I now have two new additions to our efforts: A Titan, and a Warlock. We might have something going on here.

And after that? Sweet holy shit we go fucking nuts. Nova bombs burst like pinatas, Fists of Havoc clear adds like a llinebacker, Blade Barrages everywhere, endless Shadowshots; the sort of ultra-chaos shit that makes the framerate drop like the stock market and is so much fucking fun. Even the final wave is blasted through with ease, and before I even realize it was over, I'm grabbing loot from a chest and see the Sorrow's Bane Triumph flash at the bottom of my screen.

Bungie's big thing has been to evoke that "You had to be there" feeling from the game. The thing is, what makes the game so damn fun is when completely random, absurd things happen out of nowhere and you start having the time of your life by simply playing. These guys were total strangers and we crushed the Altars with such ease that not a single Nightmare could get through, all because we were good at the game and were able to lock down enemies with ease. And hot damn, it was a fucking blast. I'd love to have a Timestamp for that Triumph so I could always show when I got that Triumph. It'd be a hell of a lot of fun.

This was late at night, about 10 - 1030 EST last night. If you clowns happen to be on here and read this, I had a fucking ball, Guardians. Was fun as hell.

So... why exactly aren't we doing anything about the Darkness ship chilling on the moon?

    Posted: 02 Apr 2020 12:18 PM PDT

I really feel like the Shadowkeep story was pretty good for the most part. The only problem is that it should have been wayyyy longer. I mean the first mission was fantastic! The hive have built a huge fortress and we gotta bring the fight to them - queue epic battle followed by that incredible moment where we discover the darkness has been at our doorstep all along! That was good shit! And then okay we gotta make an armor set to get on the ship, that's pretty contrived but not too bad I guess. Then we finally meet and... it just kind of ends?

I'm still trying to understand this and I don't want to just write it off like "idk bro the story is ass what else is new lul". Pretty much everyone I know IRL has that response. But I just don't get it! This is where the story should have really just begun, definitely not where it should end! That's like Lord of the Rings ending when Frodo gets the ring to Rivendell. "Yeah we have this world-ending threat and everything but we accomplished this tiny piece of the fight so let's call it good."

I'll make another comparison: what if Shepard had found a Reaper ship hiding on the moon and just said "hmm yeah that's an issue, anyway I'm gonna go fight some geth somewhere else." I know everyone else responds to the reapers that way but that's part of the narrative of that story. Shepard, and therefore the player, know what the threat is and what needs to be done.

So I think I just must be missing something huge here. I really wish it wasn't this hard to figure out what is happening with the story. It really shouldn't be this difficult. I think Bungie missed a huge opportunity for the best story this game has yet seen. There should have been an actual battle with the Darkness, the ultimate villain of the entire Destiny universe. Why would we ignore this?? But yes, if anyone has any lore explanations I would love to discuss them. Thanks for reading my ramblings.

    Aztecross is right. #PAYWALL

Trials and crucible need to be hidden behind a paywall, let the free to play crowd have classic mix and that's it.

All the disconnects on steam and here is 1 of the reasons

    Posted: 02 Apr 2020 08:22 AM PDT

My buddy took a packet capture on his device to see what was going on. UDP traffic being sent to an IP relay on steam and all is good. Issue is, the IP address of the relay updates, but the connectionless UDP traffic still sends to old IP relay address. Bungie please look into this if you havent already seen this in your research. This is causing disconnects that look like a client issue when it's really a Game to Steam relay issue! This is causing us to lose glory or be banned from comp or worse disconnect on game 7 flawless ticket.

Cool it with the Overload Captains

    Posted: 02 Apr 2020 07:29 PM PDT

They're pretty annoying. It takes 85% of an auto rifle magazine to pin them down, then it's up again in 4 seconds or whatever and zipping around again immediately. It's frustrating to kill one without taking the time to kill everything else in the room first, so as to not get put down when moving in to finish it off. And if there's two of them at a time, fukkin forget it. You all get it. Just, like, fukkin cool it with the crazy teleporting, all right?

Instead of 2x Valor or Infamy why doesn't Bungie just do double rewards for certain activities every now and then like they did with Menagerie and the community challenge?

    Posted: 02 Apr 2020 11:47 AM PDT

Seeing the whole double rewards glitch that is happening just inspired a thought in me of why don't they implement double rewards for activities here or there? Some weeks they could incentivise people for grinding nightfalls and strikes one week or grinding crucible another week with double the loot? Just kind of reminded me of the Menagerie rewards going up every other week near the end of year 2 of Destiny 2. Also sidenote - If you guys plan on retiring weapons from Menagerie with a light cap, please think about rotating that loot pool to gear that is still usable. It would be a shame that such a great activity just goes POOF

Even with these additions, the new emblem system still stinks.

    Posted: 02 Apr 2020 06:23 PM PDT

In the latest TWAB, Bungie just announced a handful of additional trackers that can be enabled on our emblems, coming in the next patch. And it's great, sure, but as I was looking through the list, I realized that this new system will never be as good as the old one.

The first problem is, the displayed number is virtually meaningless. Unless I hover over it, I have no idea what it means, and frankly, I'm not going to do that 99% of the time. With the old system, I could die in the Crucible, see that player's emblem and know instantly that I was playing a Crucible God with 500+ Gold Medals earned. Now, that could mean "500 kills as an Acrstrider."

The second problem is, so many of the trackers are just bad. I'm sorry to whoever came up with the system, but most of these trackers will see almost zero use. I mean, how many people actually want to display how many season ranks they earned in Season 8? I can't imagine THAT being the thing that someone is proud to show off, and yet that's the ONLY option available for Season of the Undying. What about a tracker for the number of Vex Offensives completed? Or anything that actually shows you played the seasonal content as opposed to just grinded a ton of bounties?

And don't even get me started on WEEKLY trackers. Come on Bungie, really? What a complete waste of time. A lot of the Seasonal stats are questionable, but who in their right mind is going to display a weekly tracker? Even if someone DID grind out a ton in one week, no one will know unless they go out of their way to manually inspect the emblem (which they won't). Then come Tuesday, they're back to zero. Genius! Seriously, I'd love for someone to explain to me, in what situation does a weekly tracker actually makes sense?

Finally, the worst of it all, Bungie announced that there is a hard cap on how many things they can track. I'm so glad they're using some of those limited slots on garbage stats and weekly trackers!

Is it too late to just go back to the old system?
