    Trials of Osiris are LIVE

This thread is for all general discussion, questions, thoughts, musings, wonderings, etc. for the Trials of Osiris.

    FAQ

    What is Trials of Osiris?

    • Trials of Osiris is the pinnacle PvP activity. Every Weekend, the best players compete in 3v3 Elimination for one goal: Go Flawless.

    • To start, head to Saint-14 in the Tower Hangar and buy one of the possible passages (see below).

    • To reach Flawless and get to the Lighthouse, you need to win 7 matches without losing one.

    • It uses Win Based Matchmaking, which means you'll face teams with a similar amount of wins on their card. Matches will get harder as you win more matches.

    • There is NO fireteam matchmaking. You need to team up yourself!

    • Power Level matters, however bonus power from the artifact is not enabled.

How Long do the Trials of Osiris last?

    • Event Starts: Every Friday at Daily Reset (1700 UTC).

    • Event Ends: Following Tuesday at Weekly Reset (1700 UTC).

Where do I go to find Guardians to compete with in the Trials?

    • You can head over to /r/Fireteams, www.The100.io, Xbox LFG system, DestinyLFG.net or DestinyLFG.com, or go to the Bungie.net recruitment forum (also available through the Bungie App).

What if I have a question about another piece of armor/weapon or general Trials question?

    • Use Control + F (Or Command + F if on a Mac) and search for keywords in your question. Someone may have asked it already. If they haven't ask right below.

Theory: Over time, Destiny's playerbase went from being tiny groups of close friends to large groups (clans) that barely interact with each other

    Posted: 01 May 2020 01:59 PM PDT

This is NOT a "we need a solution to this" post, just an observation

We all have friends that left the game that we wish never did. When you think back to your best times in the franchise, was it with these specific people? A large appeal to a game like Destiny is forming a bond over it with friends. When they leave, it's not as simple as filling that gap with randoms you meet through LFG, they will never live up to it even if you get to know them better. Many people (myself included) just join random clans to get hawthorne rewards and nothing more. But what does this do to our outlook on the game over time? We still enjoy it greatly, but feel imprisoned in that we do not have anyone in our lives to share this passion with anymore besides strangers on the internet. We strive to conquer activities but we don't feel nearly as good when we complete them as we would if we completed them alongside close friends who felt the same struggle we did along the way. These moments, things like conquering raids together, strengthens bonds greatly. Those same bonds don't exist after an LFG session when everyone adds each other to friends lists out of excitement for clearing a hard activity, then the next day when the honeymoon phase is over forgets all about the person.

To me the biggest blunder in the franchise was losing sight of the "friendgame". Loot doesn't mean nearly as much if you have nobody to compare it with or brag about it to. Check boxes don't mean anything if you aren't pushing each other to get them done for each other's respect. Raids with (even the nicest of) LFG users doesn't live up to doing it with close friends. The "spark" that I want back in this game isn't tied to fixing eververse or economy, it's bringing back the ones who pushed me to be the best guardian I could be. (Well, that and give me a new dungeon each season at max power +15 to work towards lol)

edit: I felt the need to say that I have been reading every comment that has come in (~150) and 99% of the posts are people sharing this same scenario. Pretty fascinating to see. Maybe it's not just a theory after all.

Infamy, Valor and Glory resets should reward a pinnacle drop

    Posted: 01 May 2020 08:14 AM PDT

When I can get a pinnacle from running 3 Gambit matches, grinding out 15,000 points and getting an at level legendary is pretty insulting.

Edit: I have not reached max Glory, so didn't realize it doesn't permit reset. So max rank - if it doesn't include a pinnacle. Or, as many suggested, rare materials at least.

Also didn't consider power valor grinders. I don't feel that's the average players situation. I average 2 gambit resets and 3 valor per season. And I think 4-5 extra pinnacles per season for that regular/casual player is fair for the time investment.

I made an 80s/90s inspired Hard Light ornament, named "Discotheque Trifecta", complete with a hideous fur coat and somewhat questionable font. Hope y'all enjoy it!

https://imgur.com/a/WS1YND4 A lot of people seemed to enjoy the SIVA Anarchy ornament i made, so i tried my hand at making another, this time a bit more "custom". A lot of people refer to the Hard Light spam as a disco/rave, so i think you can see where the inspiration came from.

I Don't Think There's Any Other Game Mode That is Ruined By Bad Teammates More Than Gambit.

    Posted: 01 May 2020 09:13 AM PDT

It's rare that I get a random that doesn't portal camp, drop tons of motes, or completely misunderstand how to play Gambit.

EDIT: I'm a little surprised at the response, but not entirely. Seems a lot of you enjoy Gambit as much as I do (it's truly a unique PvP/PvE mode), which is why it sucks having your experience sabotaged all the more.

Forges and Menagerie Could Evolve Into a "Core Activity"

    Posted: 01 May 2020 02:33 PM PDT

A good solution to making the game feel deeper instead of wider is to expand upon the numerous activities that already exist in the game. The past few seasonal activities have all borrowed elements of existing games modes (Vex Offensive is a strike with six players, Sundial has menagerie mechanics, and Seraph Tower has Forge mechanics) only for them to be removed after three months.

Right now Black Armory forges and the Menagerie all take up game space, but players are hardly given any incentive to return to them. But the makings of a core activity (vendors, bounties, activity themed loot) are already in the game. Rather than wasting resources and creating a game model of FOMO inciting player fatigue, Bungie could improve upon what they've already made and give players a reason to want to keep coming back.

Forges could be made into a more teamwork focused game mode that's slightly more detailed than "throw ball at floating laser". The Menagerie could be expanded to have different types of enemies. And i'm confident that the writing team could easily create a reason for us to frequently return to these game modes that fits with the story.

I'm sure there are logistical some reasons why Bungie can't and won't work on these game modes. Maybe the player base love playing Gambit and Trials so much they won't want to touch anything else. It just bums me out to see the developers constantly cast aside content in favor of crappy replicas.

Guardian Games definitely shows the Classes on theme.

    Posted: 01 May 2020 05:43 AM PDT

    Think about it.

Hunters have fled so that they aren't chosen for Vanguard. Their score is the lowest.

Warlocks are more concerned with the looming threat, but they are present. Their score is middling.

Titans are the meathead sports fanatics of the guardian orders. They are winning.

    Big lore win. -A Titan.

I've been playing this game for over a month now and I just don't get all the salt. Hear me out all the way before you downvote.

    - There are engaging daily and rotating NPCs

    - I can customize how I look

    - I can forge my own gear to use

    - There is a robust amount of items to collect

    - I can pull any items I've collected from my collection for a small fee

    - The locations are beautiful and change over time

    - The content is rolling out at a steady pace and not overwhelming

    - The grind is pretty casual

    - I never feel like I need to hard grind for materials

    - The endgame is enriching and makes me feel invested in what I've accomplished

Honestly, I think people need to relax and just play the game for what it is...

    Oh shit...

A useless post to help spread correct into about Thunderlord and Arbalest. That's what this is.

    Posted: 01 May 2020 08:07 AM PDT

I see a lot of confusion and misinformation spreading about this, so here it is:

Currently, we have our third event Exotic, Heir Apparent, available as a reward for completing the Guardian Games Triumph "Class Act," which is completed by completing any 7 of the GG Triumphs available until the event ends.

People are wondering what's going to happen to it after the event goes away; people think it's going to disappear for a long while, because Bungie hasn't said anything on the topic.

We have two other exotics that came and went in a similar fashion; the first is Thunderlord, which was originally introduced with Festival of the Lost in October 2018, and Arbalest, introduced via the Revelry in April/May 2019.

What happened with these? Well, the fact of the matter is that both of them were essentially made available immediately after the ends of their respective events by being added to world loot and exotic engrams.

Thunderlord was obtainable via steps to a timegated quest that was then available until November 27th, and was a reward for completing the murder mystery. The weapon, contrary to what people are saying, did NOT disappear for a year and we had to wait many months for it's return:

    https://www.reddit.com/r/DestinyTheGame/comments/a566tn/can_you_still_obtain_thunderlord/

This thread from December 2018 shows that it was added to the loot pool for exotics and made available pretty much right after FotL 2018.

Likewise, the same happened with Arbalest: on the day the Revelry ended in 2019, which was May 7th, Destiny 2 patch 2.2.2 dropped on all platforms and that was the patch that added Arbalest to the pool of exotics that drop in the wild:

Additionally, Arbalest will no longer be eligible for purchase from Eva Levante, and will be available only as a reward drop from loot sources.

    https://www.bungie.net/en/News/Article/47801

This sums up a few things:

No, these weapons did not disappear for a year. They were gone for barely any time at all before their respective inclusions into the world loot pool, with the rest of our world exotics. They were each added within a week or so of their respective events ending, if not immediately.

This helps set the precedent that our third event Exotic, Heir Apparent, will also be added to the world loot pool pretty much as soon as the Guardian Games are actually over.

Obviously, Bungie hasn't said anything on the issue, but I'm sure that they'll let us know in a TWAB before the GGs are actually over, just like they did with these two.

I can't believe I even felt compelled to make this stupid-ass thread, but people spreading obvious and ridiculous misinformation about how long both Thunderlord and Arbalest were gone absolutely triggered me.

So, there it is. They were not gone for a year. They were gone for a few days or a week at maximum.

quick addendum: so, no, do not go around saying that these exotics went missing for a year or longer before being added to the loot pool when they were added immediately after their events ended. It's stupid misinformation that has no reason to exist.

edit2: Should this have been labeled SGA? I have no idea. Didn't think it wouldn't even get any semblance of traction, lmao

It’s a shame that the Festering Core doesn’t have a exclusive weapon

    Posted: 01 May 2020 01:19 PM PDT

I finally got the festering core as a strike in the strike playlist and I think it's a shame that it feels useless. Adding a taken looking weapon would be cool. At first I was thinking of a taken imago loop with the fatebringer roll possible but it should probably stay in D1. Other than the weapon should be taken I don't have any other ideas for a weapon.

TLDR Bungie should give the Festering Core a nightfall exclusive weapon.

Please. Before anything, narrative wise, wrap up the stories started in year 2!

    Posted: 01 May 2020 05:59 AM PDT

Maybe they can be combined with the new seasonal narratives in year 4, but please DO NOT push them up even further/abandon them. There are many interesting plots and we never got to know why we did what we did or how things ended.

Edit: I'm talking siding with the Vanguard/Drifter and the affiliation of the Drifter with the Nine, the curse of the Dreaming City and Mara Sov, Uldren the guardian?! Calus and whatever he is preparing us for now that we are his shadow. And probably many more topics I can't think of right now.

Bungie, whatever changes you make to weekly bounties, please don't reduce players' Bright Dust buying power / rate of income

    Posted: 01 May 2020 10:31 AM PDT

TL/DR: I'm worried that the changes to weekly bounties will either reduce the amount of Bight Dust available to earn on a regular basis, or will increase the effort required to earn it so that putting in the time becomes much less rewarding.

But before I start worrying too much, I want to say thank you for making the effort in the recent TWABs to be more forthcoming about plans and designs for improvements to the game in the future. It's refreshing and helps build confidence in the direction of the game.

Yesterday's TWAB talked about changes being considered for weekly bounties:

While the specifics are still under development, as early as Season 12 we want to make this better by replacing Weekly Bounties with a mechanism that provides players with a set of non-expiring and account-scoped objectives each week that grant lots of Season Rank progress (more than the Weeklies they replace). That way the return on effort is better, more consistent between players.

I don't yet have an opinion on the changes presented at face-value, but I noticed that the 200 Bright Dust reward we get from weeklies was not mentioned. I know the Eververse store and cosmetic economy is something you're very likely to address in an upcoming TWAB, but I wanted to call attention to this here in case someone forgets to mention these things like they did with the disappearance of emblem stats at the start of Season of the Worthy.

Weekly bounties are the only consistent way players have to accrue reasonable amounts of Bright Dust for purchases in the Eververse. A full set of seasonal armor ornaments for one class can be paid for with three weeklies done each week for ten weeks (more math below for nerds like me). Repeatable bounties offering 10 Bright Dust are merely a supplementary source of income to the main event of weeklies, and can't be considered reliable.

I'm not advocating for leaving weeklies completely alone - a lot will have to change to get the bounty system to a better place. Rather, please take careful consideration of how players currently invest time in farming that currency to obtain cosmetics, and don't pull the rug out from beneath them while trying to fix something else. Make sure it can be earned with at least the same amount of effort, the same rate, and the same buying power in Eververse.

    UNNECESSARY STATS FOR NERDS

I was curious what the buying power of Bright Dust gets you in the Eververse, so I used JPDeathblade's great site Today in Destiny to compare values across various items. The short answer is, it depends what kind of cosmetic you're buying. Silver is basically priced at $1.00 = 100 Silver, ignoring the "bonus" Silver you get from buying larger packages. I'm sure this math has been done before but figured I'd recompile it here for ease of reference given the topic at hand.

The table below lists the Silver and Bright Dust (BD) costs for each kind of item, referencing those types of items that would be sold for both Silver and BD through Season of the Worthy. It also lists how much BD $1 USD (100 Silver) nets you, as well as how much $USD 1,000 BD nets you. The "BD Efficiency" column compares the 1,000 BD in USD values across item types, using the most efficient item as its baseline of 100%.

    • So for example, Legendary Singleplayer Emotes are the most efficient use of your Bright Dust when compared to their Silver values ($7.14 per 1k BD).
    • Exotic Weapon Ornaments net you $5.60 per 1k BD.
    • $5.60 / $7.14 = 78.4% efficiency.

As a result, legendary armor ornaments are pretty inefficient as a BD expense (only 35%).

    MOAR MATH:

If you farmed every weekly bounty on three characters every week of the year, you'd get 187,200 BD per year.

    • 200 BD per weekly bounty X 2 weekly bounties per vendor X 3 vendors X 3 characters X 52 weeks = 187,200 BD per year
    • Since each legendary armor ornament set costs 6k BD, getting every set for every class for every season in a year would require 6k X 3 classes X 4 seasons = 72,000 BD. That requires 360 weekly bounties.
Item Type Silver Cost BD Cost $1 (100 Silver) in BD 1,000 BD in $USD BD Efficiency
    Weapon Ornament - Exotic 700 1,250 179 $5.60 78.4%

Would it be so bad to just let me pick up as many quests as I want?
