Props to bungie: Contact is approximately 10^27 times better than seraph towers

    Posted: 14 Jun 2020 04:40 PM PDT

It actually takes some coordination, has a heroic mode, has good dialogue, has a good umbral engram drop rate, it's challenging but not in an infuriating way, and I've actually been able to complete it multiple times. I could say less for the impossible to do tear your hair out seraph towers. Good job.

Grinding for power level is not new content

    Posted: 14 Jun 2020 02:49 PM PDT

To all those people saying "don't come back arguing there's no content after you afk farmed". If your concept of content is repeating old content to increase your power, we need to talk.

There should be different activities for everyone in the game, doesn't matter your power level, there should be a brand new thing to do, and this activitie should be a good way to grind your way up to reach new activities.

If people want to play the end game as soon as possible, even if it means using a exploit in the game, shouldn't be a problem. They will enjoy the very same content you will, sooner or later you too will be arguing "there is no content" because it isnt a matter of power level, there is a content problem in D2 for a while, for those who grind fast and for those who take the whole season to reach max cap.

Let people enjoy the game the way they feel like.

Ikora warned us about the Silver Tree at the start of Forsaken.

    Posted: 14 Jun 2020 12:13 PM PDT

She mentions the Traveler spoke to her about crowns (Opulence), roses (Thorn and Rose) and silver trees (Arrival) after the mission "Last Call".

I found that to be pretty damn interesting.

When the Trinity Ghoul catalyst says it wants "any Arc final blow"...

    Posted: 14 Jun 2020 07:03 AM PDT

... it really does seem to almost mean any Arc final blow, as long as Trinity Ghoul is in your hands at the time.

So far, here's what I've tested:

    • Obviously, arrows and lightning from Trinity Ghoul itself work.
    • Other arc weapons work, as long as you're holding TG when the enemy dies (eg fire a rocket, and switch weapons while it's in flight).
    • All arc grenades and charged melees work.
    • Arc supers do not work, I'm guessing because they replace your weapon, so you're not actually holding TG at the time. This even applies to the one-shot Thundercrash.
    • Other arc abilities work, I tested: Arc Soul (Stormcaller bottom), Arc Web and Chain Lightning (Stormcaller top), Terminal Velocity aftershocks (Striker top), Thundercrash aftershocks (Striker middle). The aftershocks in particular need to get a kill after your super ends, so you're actually holding TG.
    • Many finishers work, as long as you're on an Arc subclass, but not all. I don't own a full set, so I only tested the ones I had on my character. I'm not sure what the difference is, it's possible these ones don't use the same damage type as your subclass (they do seem to be themed to specific elements). Or it's possible the animations have different timings, so you're not holding TG at the time the enemy dies. More testing is warranted here.
      • Golden Age Dropkick - works
      • Whirlwind - works
      • Clock Cleaner - works
      • Flash Kick - works
      • Fist of Fury - works
      • Perfect Ten - works
      • En Garde - does not work
      • Kellbreaker - does not work
      • Valkyrian Impaler - does not work
    • I tested a bunch of exotics that deal damage, regardless of whether it seemed like it should work:
      • Khepri's Horn - doesn't work (as expected, since it specifically says it's solar damage)
      • ACD/0 Feedback Fence - works (even if your melee and the melee you're being hit with aren't arc, it looks like the feedback is)
      • Severance Enclosure - works, as long as you're using an Arc subclass (but since it requires a charged melee or a finisher, it really only helps if you're using one of the finishers that doesn't work)
      • Dunemarchers - works (even if your melee is not Arc, it looks like the chain is)
      • Antaeus Wards - works, if you're reflecting Arc damage
      • The Bombardiers - does not work (guess it's not Arc damage)
      • Getaway Artist - works
      • Vesper of Radius - works (even if not an Arc subclass)
      • Chromatic Fire - works, if you're on an Arc subclass (but it's surprisingly hard to set up, and you need to switch back to TG before the explosion)
    • Explosions from breaking an arc shield with arc damage work.
    • Letting a Screeb blow up on you, and taking out other enemies, does not work. However, actively killing a Screeb, and having the explosion take out other enemies, does work.
    • Cursed Thrall, on the other hand, do not seem to work in either case.
    • I couldn't think of a good place to test exploder shanks, but I'm lead to understand they're not Arc any more, so I'd be surprised if they work.

Merciless is broken. Just so you know.

    Posted: 14 Jun 2020 08:44 AM PDT

"Non-lethal hits decrease charge time." I like Merciless and use it at times, but I used it just now in a Contact event and didn't notice the effect kicking in. Went to the Tribute Hall to test, and it doesn't activate at all. I know it's a barely used weapon, but without this effect it's literally just another High-Impact Fusion Rifle.

I got the catalyst for it last season and completed it then, so this must be a recent development.

Bungie, we need information regarding Transmog before Raids and Destinations are vaulted.

    Posted: 14 Jun 2020 09:26 AM PDT

Title. We need to know whether or not transmog will require the armor to be in our vault/inventory or just use the collections. This is important before armor from vaulted content goes away.

Destiny shouldn't pander to streamers, but they shouldn't pander to people who barely play either. Just somewhere in between.

    Posted: 14 Jun 2020 04:37 PM PDT

Before I go on, I'm gonna try to refrain from using the word "casuals" because that word has already been memed to death and it would detract from the point I'm trying to make. Anyways...

As you people probably know, the recent AFK Forge farming has become a huge controversy and sparked a really interesting conversation about Destiny 2 and its loot grind. One of the main arguments that came from this is that the grind for loot and max level takes too long and it panders to streamers. An idea has been raised for it to be easier to climb to help people that dont have as much time to play. Now that the mini recap is out of the way, on to my point.

My point is quite simply that Destiny should not pander to either extremes. First extreme: streamers. The game cannot be built around people who play it as a job, that is too much for how little of the player base that makes. Other extreme: people who have little time to play. I really dont need to say more than look at Destiny 2 Year 1, almost entirely agreed upon to be the worst year in Destinys history. The game at that time was built with this extreme in mind. The majority of the player base finished everything and reached max in a month at most. If the game was built around either of these extremes, it would severely hurt Destiny. The game needs to be somewhere in between these two extremes. To answer where, I think it needs to be kept in mind that the game is now an MMO RPG.

The biggest thing that makes an MMO RPG, an MMO RPG is that it is based on the element of grinding. When playing the genre, you are expected to grind. Usually a lot. Destiny is no different. In Destiny, you are expected to grind, you are expected to play a lot, you are expected to play an activity over and over again. That is an MMO RPG. You cant fully enjoy an MMO RPG, or expect to, if you dont have time to.

Let's look at Warframe. It may be overdone to compare them but they are fundamentally the same game, and I'm talking about the fundamentals of both. Warframe has an insane barrier of entry and grinding. It is a damn good game, but you need to put a lot of time to fully enjoy that game. Digital Extremes understands this, so they keep building the game around that. Bungie is no different. When embracing the MMO RPG title, the game dedicated itself to being grindy.

The game can't be built for streamers who play the game as their job. Neither can it be built for people who dont have time to play the game. It must be between. With the idea that the game is an MMO RPG in mind, it needs to be grindy. That's what and MMO RPG is. What Destiny is.

I hope that when we get to explore the Cosmodrome fully again that those enemies underground at the starting area are '???' when we first see them.

    Posted: 14 Jun 2020 12:01 PM PDT

Then as we level up throughout the season we can finally merk them. You know which enemies I'm referring too for us veterans. If not well you'll hopefully see which enemies I'm talking about.

Streamers and full time players of the game shouldn’t represent the community.

    Posted: 14 Jun 2020 09:13 AM PDT

Let's be honest, no one plays the game as much as they do. A majority of the players have jobs and school, and can't spend all the time playing the game like streamers or YouTubers can. I see people like Datto representing the community, but I just don't think that it's really their place. No offense to Datto, he makes good videos, he just plays the game all the time and as his actual job, and most of the community don't. Most of the community can only play for a few hours a week, and I think Bungie should be listening to the community more than big streamers and youtubers.

Power increases should only be in the annual expansions.

    Posted: 14 Jun 2020 12:09 PM PDT

If Bungie cannot add more than a single new activity in seasons, they need to retire the idea of constant power increases.

I am tired of doing the same old content every time there is a new increase, and it's simply because the increases happen WAY too often.

Either Bungie needs to completely change how power progression works, or they need to simply just make a singular power increase each year with the expansions.

If you want to cut back on the AFK farming, don't have the Main activity by 40 light(or much more) above your level at the start of the season

    Posted: 14 Jun 2020 09:50 AM PDT

There is a big war going on in Destiny. Not Light vs Dark, But AFK vs Grinding.

I get why the power level grind is as it is. Its so people are always up to doing something in the game. They have something to chase, keeps them playing. I get that, and I think that is good.

However, when a new event people want to play is much higher light then they are, and they can't even complete it? it frustrates people, and then people are more inclined to do things like AFK farm.

Now, I am a casual destiny player. I have a job, and I play multiple other games too. Would I grind for hours on end just for a few levels and maybe do sliughtly better in the new event, or do I afk farm, and work on getting some Pokemon ready for the DLC dropping next week, or work on an event in Fate Grand order? I will pick the later, as I feel I acomplish a lot more that way.

Now, I see 1 perfect way to fix this: Do not have the public event be 1040 in the first week. Have the difficulty scale up every week as more guardians naturally level playing the event. this way, they feel more impactful during the event, and it feels more rewarding to play it. You are playing the game you enjoy and getting rewards from it and not feeling useless.

You gues remember when Black armory first dropped, and how impossible the first forge was because it was 30 light levels above where everyone was, so no one could finish it? No one liked that and Bungie had to make them a lower light level so people could actually finish it. This (and the towers last season, and the other thing before) is this same issue. WHy are we repeating black armory mistakes?

So in the future, here is an example on how it should go. First week, have it be at 1000 or 1005 light. second week, bump it to 1015, or 1020. next week, bump it again to 1030. And so on. this way this a natural progresson of it getting harder as you play.

I'm not saying all the new content should be like this, just the main farming on. Any dungeons or raids or other stuff added shouldn't be that low at the start; Like Bunkers for example last season, I think it was good they were high light, but it would have been better of the towers were lower then the bunkers, so you farm the towers to prepare yourself for the harder bunkers.

If you do this, people well enjoy playing the new event, and be more inclined to play it repeatidly, instead of AFK farm so they would be high enough level to do the new farming content.

TLDR: The farming activities for a season should start lower, near the soft cap of light, then increase every week as gaurdians natually play the event. Dungeons and other non main farming events should still be higher. This would let people feel more inclined to play content they can actually do, instead of AFK farm to let them do the new content.

Hey y’all, I’m gonna give you a thing to do in destiny 2. And you might be surprised abt how fun it is...

    Posted: 14 Jun 2020 01:56 PM PDT

Play hide and seek with a fireteam. Pick a seeker, have them turn the hud off in settings, and give all players a time to find a good hiding spot, you'd be surprised on how funny it is when you get a screenshot of ur buddy (the seeker) right next to you and not find you. There's so many free roam areas. I would start small, like one area of the tower. Or do the leviathan starting area. It's so fun and I've had some great bonding time with my buddies just messin around playing hide and seek, which is frankly one of the most fun things I've done in this game!

    • Penguin

Edit: I just had an idea. We should make a subreddit purely dedicated to posting the most bizarre hiding spots ever, that would be awesome

Edit: you don't have to like the idea, I'm just tryna help

    Light Level Grind Isn't Content

    Posted: 14 Jun 2020 03:38 PM PDT

I get why the light level change each season is +50 in order to make sunsetting weapons a meaningful threshold to push out older weapons, but the light level grind in the process needs to be painless since we already need regrind for armor, regrind for weapons, then regrinding just for light levels in activities we don't want to do makes it that much worse.

With the limitless supply of +4s from the drifter trash can right now, it really shows how many powerfuls we need just to rank up. 8 slots needing +50, then another 10 pinnacle levels will need at least 100 drops of increasing light to rank up. If we're capped at powerful/pinnacle sources we're forced to run stuff we don't like and old content for multiple weeks just to play new content. This isn't meaningful progression at all.

It wasn't as much of a problem in the past when we had much longer seasons, then the raids wouldnt be released for a couple weeks after the season goes live. Now we have shorter seasons but an even higher light level grind with a pinnacle threshold on top.

IMO all engram drops should have a chance to give an increase in light, while pinnacle sources can remain as is.

The third column of perks on the artifact are pointless (again). Glimmer isn’t exactly hard to get. Next season can you please put something worthwhile in column 3?

    Posted: 14 Jun 2020 02:14 PM PDT

Unlocking the Artifact this season is like "well, I got all the good stuff, but I still need another upgrade to unlock the 4th column..."

And then you still don't pick a glimmer mod because running out of glimmer isn't really a thing for most players.

Bungie, we had damned well better be able to use our armour glows that we either grinder for or bought last year for this year’s solstice stuff

    Posted: 14 Jun 2020 06:13 AM PDT

We've already had to rebuy it once, and when Armour 2.0 came out, the solstice armour we were given was a bargain bin roll that got outclassed almost immediately. Either have it so we can use the glows that we already own, or have it so that the glow is enabled if we masterwork the armour by whatever means you want us to masterwork it.

Sunsetting is kind of weird since all guns are, are skins for various archetypes.

    Posted: 14 Jun 2020 12:14 PM PDT

Like, people don't use 150 hand cannons like spare rations as the meta because OH MAH GAWD SPARE RATIONS IS A BEAST

they use it because, well... if you want to use a 150 hand cannon with random rolls in the kinetic slot? There's uh. Two.

    Spare rations, and Dire Promise.

Energy slot? Good luck, we've got a choice between waking vigil, and jack queen king 3, which you already can't get.

People are like WOW, THESE ARE THE ONLY HAND CANNONS WE SEE... and it's like, no shit, those are the ONLY hand cannons in that archetype with random rolls.

these guns are meta just because they don't have any other competition. They get used a lot because there's no other options.

Why do you think people stuck with midnight coup for so long? It's because until you got your hands on a decently rolled spare rations, it was one of the best options available for a kinetic 150 in that slot, because there were no other kinetic 150s.

Why do you think so many people use rose? Same deal. Weapons are just skins for their relevant archetype. Base stats can vary, sure, that's normal for every gun in the game, but the archetypes are what ultimately matters because everything is balanced around them.

How does removing skins from the game do anything other than disrespect the time investment players had to get whatever rolls they liked on their weapon skins?

And, y'know, I get it. Worlds first shit if you're underleveled is pretty much always going to be some sweat team using things like recluse, mountaintop, and anarchy.

You wanna make it so people aren't always using the same old weapons in all your new content, you wanna not have to deal with those guns when you balance things, because if you balance your new stuff around those guns, which are the nails sticking out of the board, then it makes everything else feel even WORSE in that content.

So sunsetting is the new idea, all the old guns are gonna be taken away in favor of whatever the fuck the new hotness is, and I can kinda get it.

But it's... There's gotta be some way to bring things up to new content if you really love a particular weapon. Maybe even having to invest a bunch of upgrade materials into it.

It's kinda sad that everyone else in the lore gets to have a signature gun, but if I work my ass off to get something that I genuinely love, I can't keep it.

There's still a bunch of Exotics that don't have Catalysts in the game. Here's a list of suggestions for them:

    Posted: 14 Jun 2020 06:05 PM PDT

Gonna get straight to the point.

Divinity: Everlasting Presence - Magazine size increased. Penance deals 25% more damage.

Anarchy: Tesla Enhancements - Lightning lasts longer and chains from farther distances.

Tarrabah: Raging Inferno - Magazine size increased. Timer for Ravenous Beast increased to 12 seconds.

One Thousand Voices: Burning Glare - Increased reserve size. Holding down the trigger while the beam is fired will prolong it, allowing you to keep firing until the magazine is empty.

Edit: Seems like the 1KV sounds busted huh? Alright, what about this:

    • Increased reserve size. Landing all hits with the laser beam decreases charge time for the next beam until reload.

Bastion: Timeless Enigma - If all 3 bursts land on an enemy, an additional 4th burst will fire from the weapon.

Deathbringer: Nightfall Approach - Increased reserve size. Projectiles that fall have enhanced tracking.

Twin-Tailed Fox: Third Pack - Landing the Void and Solar rocket will trigger an Arc rocket to be launched on the next shot, blinding all enemies in its blast radius.

The Chaperone: Icarus - Increased accuracy whilst airborne.

Monte Carlo: Unwarranted Deal - Kills with the weapon increase melee damage for a short time (stacks up to 3x for 4 seconds).

Wish-Ender: Queen's Arrow - Precision kills retain the Truesight buff. Draw time slightly decreased.

Malfeasance: Hunting Grounds - Enemies killed by slugs explode. Enemies caught in the explosion have slugs attached to them.

Thorn: Sorrow Finder - Remnants track from farther distances.

The Last Word: Quicksilver - When switching to this weapon, hipfire precision shots deal increased damage for a short time.

Devil's Ruin: Neverending Twilight - Landing all precision hits during this weapon's burst fire will reload the weapon and keep firing. Increased magazine size.

Wavesplitter: Stable Frequency - Picking up an Orb of Light will max out stability and range for 10 seconds.

Jotuun: Burning Pride - Projectile burn lasts longer. Increased reload speed.

Le Monarque: Generational Precision - Landing multiple perfect precision hits will increase poison blast radius and damage.

Thunderlord: Call of Heavens - Increased magazine size. When rate of fire is max, precision hits summon streaks of lighting from above.

Truth: Can't Handle It - Increased handling and reload speed.

Xenophage: Bane of Existence - Increased reserve size and stability. Explosive rounds have larger blast radius.

Leviathan's Breath: Belly of the Beast - Launching multiple enemies with an arrow greatly increases next arrow ready and draw speed. Increased ammo reserves.

Heir Apparent: Almighty No More - While weapon is fully spinning, kills while overshield is active increases mobility greatly.

Arbalest: Match Gamer - Significantly increases damage on shields and reloads weapon after breaking them.

(Major Spoilers) Everyone's favorite song about the Moon has significant implications.

    Posted: 14 Jun 2020 02:48 PM PDT

Once again, this is significant spoilers.

THIS IS ALSO DATAMINED INFORMATION THAT WILL BE REVEALED IN GAME

    Last warning.

Ok, so. Do you remember that little song Shaxx sang during the Devil's Ruin quest? The one about how the moon is made of chesse?

The lyrical content doesn't matter, the way it is sung is. Why? It's Savathun's Song. It can't be unheard and is considered "viral". In other words, it's a big issue.

To make matters worse, you ever notice how Shaxx has Ahamkara skulls over his head in his little area? Seems like they have been telling him some things, and he refuses to get rid of them. They/It have also been spying on Zavala. Remember, Ahamkara can still communicate if you are in proximity of their bones.

Eris tells Drifter that he should remove them from above him immediately, Drifter said he tried but Shaxx gave him a firm no.

Sounds like our man Shaxx has been compromised. Eris makes the point that now that Savathun has made her presence known "relics of the Dark" are beginning to act again.

Now my confusion here is that Eris makes it sound like she didn't sing him the song, but then again she could just be denying it to save face (would be REAL interesting if she didn't).

Bungie- your glitch is what brought me back

    Posted: 14 Jun 2020 06:28 PM PDT

In all my years playing Destiny, I've never had less fun than I did in Season of the Undying. Pointless grinds, fake-FOMO, etc. I'm now in my mid-30's and don't have dozens of hours to play per week.

After Undying, I just stopped completely even though I'd bought the season pass. +50 power level increases every 3 months was a shit gate-keeping mechanic that I had no interest in abiding, especially if seasons culminated with the same shit "storytelling" as... changing the final boss of an event I'd already run 1,000 times. When I heard about gear sunsetting, I was doubly glad I wasn't putting in any more time. I considered myself gone for good until substantial changes were made to progression and gear.

But this past Saturday, an article popped up in my newsfeed that essentially boiled down to: "you no longer need to worry about grinding power level in the new season."

Could this be true? Dare I hope I could simply run the game AFK for a few days and be at a moderately high power level on even one character? It was definitely worth trying.

So now my first character is 1030 light and rising. I'm going to be able to run the new content and see if I like it, and if so I'll probably keep playing.

TL;DR- So here, dear Bungie, is what you need to get through your thick skulls: your attempt at creating FOMO does not work with the "casual" players who have maybe 5-20 hours a week to play at most. Faced with the choice between missing out on a season's "end-game" content, I'm going to simply not play at all.

But when you lower the barrier to entry and remove the fake barriers to play, I'm willing to dip my toes in and try it out. And if you've managed to create a fun seasonal loop, I'll stick around.

    Please remember that this time.

The Pyramid ship scares me. That aura it gives off, the swarm of scales around it, the slight changes in the music, the lightning beneath it, all of that makes the Pyramid a scary structure to me even though I've seen it a million times. Every time I see it, it feels... wrong. Like I shouldn't look too long. Idea: Replace the entire third column of the artifact with armor mod versions of the first column

    Posted: 14 Jun 2020 02:17 AM PDT

99% of players don't use any mods in the third column, and everyone would be happy with getting more customization and choice. Mods from both columns would still be used a lot, and now exotics would work with seasonal mods. It's purely a win-win

    Title.

Edit: This is what the engram drops this week. It should rotate weekly to feature some of the other weapons from past seasons like Patron of Lost Causes and Subjunctive.

    The New Perks Are Amazing

Seriously, Bungie, thank you for designing these. Even if Damage/Reload is still currently meta, the new perks--like Killing Wind--on the seasonal weapons are extremely fun to use. I've never been so excited to snag a seasonal weapon, and I really hope you continue the trend of adding fun and interesting perks.

I know we're only a week in to the season, and this sub likes to get a bit salty as the shiny-new-season feeling declines, but I love everything you've done with it so far. I just felt like I had to call out the perks in particular.

also give the art and music teams for prophecy a huge raise, that dungeon is my favorite thing in all of destiny ever
